@ Ice of Dragons:
How does the WvW tournament fit within the living story? What good can fighting in the mists do to help with the fight against the dragons?
Well you just proved my point. WvW updates have nothing to do whit the story. Nether does the tournament. It would be silly if the story would be we need a superior mist escence or something from the mist to kill the dragons, so lets all have a turnament and let tyria alone for a mounth. It would make no sense. However, they did include the mist map, but the story vent that the pirates fled there. And thats it, it was so short and well has no reall concequences till now. Still the mist is an arcane place that its easily written into the story. In my opinion the SAB should come out sometimes durring the seasson. But more like did u hear the SAB opened again ? You should check it out when you have some time. Not we nead wenture into SAB to find a way to destroy the dragon. Except they will similate a cube dragon then i would love to see it. I really enoy SAB and it should return.
Pretty much. I personally found them including the story elements within EotM as them trying to force it to be part of the living story. It’s not like the same can’t be done for anything else. I think a lot of people may feel that while their answer wasn’t necessarily wrong, it was just incomplete.
I got all of them. Which one is giving you trouble?
So just stacking on the boss and pressing your #1 skill is more fun? That’s essentially what all bosses were before in this game. It seems people either want that back or for the game to play itself like a movie.
I could so go further and say how does Halloween and Wintersday fit within the living story? They’ve never been a part of it in the past.
The better answer for why SAB was not released would probably have been because of the direction they want to take with it, which was strongly hinted at the world 3 teaser, is why it’s being postponed. They want to weave SAB sub plot into a future living story narrative at a later date.

It was pretty big news last week. Very difficult to miss in the general discussion sub forum with the dozen or so threads popping up daily.
Imagine if you’re using a 30+ silver food buff and you walk over the cake losing it.
I’ve stated my arguments and we’re just going in circles now. Please check my previous posts in this thread and look up exactly what a player-driven economy is versus what you believe it is.
John,
Can you provide an explanation of what a player-driven economy is?
Do you feel GW2 falls under this and why?
Super very simple:
Players set prices, players set supply. Prices are set by the players. Players can change the supply of items by changes in their play activity. All vendor based economies are not player driven. The TP is player driven. Apologies for the terse response, remind me sometime to revisit this more thoroughly.
Thank you for the quick response.

Any supply that enters the game is as a result of players. Prices are set by players. All Anet does is set the “policy” to influence production or prices like governments do with taxes and such. By your definition, I don’t think you know what a player driven economy is nor what a consumer based one is either.
Edit: I asked John what his explanation of a player driven economy is and whether it applied to GW2. He’s vastly more experienced and knowledgeable than me on the subject so it’d likely carry more weight coming from him.
I also found a good read in the subject as well.

Yeah it had nothing to do with anet adding a rare drop from said nodes and introducing an ascended back item with a extra dust feed item that requires ample amounts of the rare drop in question….
So Apple releasing a new iPhone driving the economy for that specific item? In fact, is any item released by any company causing the market for that item to be driven by the company? Under your beliefs, there’s no such thing as a consumer driven economy and by extension a player driven economy.
It’s players leaving alts in Malchor Leap and continually farming the same five nodes every few hours that has caused the elder wood log prices to plummet and bring foxfire clusters into the market. If they did not do this then we’d likely see neither.
I get enough elder wood logs from salvage, there was never a shortage on T5 mats.
I was just trying to show the result of how a massive influx in supply impacts the price and how this was completely driven by players. Auxiliary methods of acquiring them were not necessary for my argument.
I see Anet more in the role of policy makers who influence production and demand through changes in “policy”.

Under your rationale there would be no such thing as a consumer driven economy.
This was addressed in one of the already existing threads in the forum. It’s ine of the ones with the red icon.
Great. They’ll likely do their normal fix and just ban it from WvW altogether.
A question for Anet:
Will members who are not from the host server of a guild, still be required to guest to that server to receive credit for guild missions?
The “host server”?
The server that created the guild or that specific chapter. No details were given as to whether players from other server would receive credit and get their commendations. I just now saw a thread created that brings this up as well.
I don’t think it matters, the point is server will not effect any part of guilds any more.
They never specifically stated the impact on players for the issue. Just because they’re global doesn’t necessarily mean that players no longer have to guest.
I’m sure people would prefer clarification rather than to go do guild missions expecting they’ll get credit regardless of their server but then miss out on them.
It usually happens within seconds. Make sure your inbox is empty (which appears that you did) and collect all items from the TP. If none of this works, I suggest emailing support and you’ll likely get a quicker response.

Players affect the price through demand. The price reflects their aggregate desire for said item and how much that they’re willing to spend to get it. Look at precursors. Not all of them have the same price yet they all have the same acquisition rate. The players set the price.
Supply into the economy is driven by players. If they don’t do the specific activities that drop certain items then those items will not end up on the TP. Look at what happened to elder wood and foxfire clusters. It’s players leaving alts in Malchor Leap and continually farming the same five nodes every few hours that has caused the elder wood log prices to plummet and bring foxfire clusters into the market. If they did not do this then we’d likely see neither.
All Anet does is influence the markets. They do not drive it with their actions. In the end, it’s up to the players to make actions that directly impact how the market of certain items behave.

Does this also mean when you transfer to another server you won’t lose any upgrades that was unlocked for your guild? As for now, when you transfer you start you lose all your upgrades.
This would be amazing!
Yes.

Or just let us join active servers to maps by typing the IP.
- If the server does not exist for that map, we get an error.
- If the server exists for that map, but is full, give us a queue similar to WvW. It can function like that and how the old overflow queue worked.
- If the server exists and is not full, we go to the map obviously.
All of which requires us to be on that map in the first place.

Prices are set by players. Supply (not drop rates) is set by players. It’s player driven. I’m not arguing as to whether the player driven economy is right or wrong. I’m just saying it exists in this game.
First off, precursors prices are not being manipulated nor would it ever be able to be manipulated for long enough time. Any attempts would results in losses more than likely. This has been discussed before in several threads, one of which I’m pretty sure that you were a part of.
This is indeed a player driven economy. You may want to revisit what the definition of a player driven economy or any _______-driven economy is.
All of his attacks pretty much follow a pattern. I beat it with a guardian that had no traits unlocked and level 80 PVT armor and weapons. The accessories were green level 20’s and I had no back item.
The fight itself took about 10 minutes and I only died once due to bad timing. Everything about the fight was reasonable just like in the statue fight in the previous episode that a few people managed to have issues with.
Any level restrictions? I can see people using it for key farming if there are none.
Likely not as it ends the 24th.
I did the current episode on a pvt guardian with no traits (had none unlocked) and level 20 accessories. Armor and weapons were level 80 exotics.
I had no issues completing either of the instances. They took a little longer but were manageable.
They have various level scrolls in the game now. Whether they’re available, who knows.
You can make gold on time-gated items but that’s about it if you don’t care for ascended.
It won’t work anymore as the caps were raised to level 500 and the exp gained modified as a result to be spread across 500 levels. Jeweler and cooking, which still have the 400 cap, had their experience modified as well.
I have yet to see any situation where you have a large cluster of commanders from various guilds on a map and that you need coordination of multiple commanders between those of your guild.
How would joining multiple squads be any different than joining none at all?
They’re 30 silver? I guess I’ll start keeping an eye out for them then.
I really should just create a thread with all of John’s posts referenced and organized.
Open up the ENTIRE Magus Falls, Verdant Forest, Far Shiverpeaks, OR NE corner (past Blazeridge, Flame Legion origins). Any 1 of these REGIONS would be acceptable as entirely new content (I’d expect for every 2 years that goes by, at least one of these regions to be fully opened up).
So every two years, huh? You do realize that players would have completely explored these within a month and then have nothing to do, right? They’d then have 23 months to wait for the next update. By that time the game would be dead.
New dungeons, that are about this size:
http://paratime.ca/images/fantasy/dungeon-075bw.jpg
(Note: I’m just providing a frame of reference for size comparison – I want dungeons that take longer to explore, instead of linear quest objective dungeons that just lead you from one room to the next – also, while I’m on the topic, I think that every dungeon should have scaleable difficulty and a ‘solo mode’, with both down scaled enemies and down scaled rewards)
Looks more of a grind to me. So players have to grind through nearly 250 rooms just to complete the dungeon? Yep. That sure goes against your anti-grind mentality.
And also old dungeons revamped and expanded (particularly for size and possible pathways – I want a dozen different directions to go in for all dungeons, ideally).
And what would prevent path 1 from being no different than say path 11? There are only so many different ways that you can do a dungeon before things get repetitive. And that’s just for one dungeon. Imagine if they did this for all of them.
New “mini” dungeons – little keeps, cave systems, castles, etc. that make exploring older areas new again.
I don’t see anything wrong with this one.
All open world content properly scaled, so that’s it’s possible to do ANYTHING, even champs, even with 1 person (and of course the rewards properly scaled as well).
The problem with this is that you’re making it into more of a singple player game than you know, an MMO. If you dislike group content then perhaps the MMO genre is not for you. In fact, based on all of your complaints, I’m 100% sure that MMO’s are not for you.
You’ll more than likely get a more enjoyable experience playing games such as Skyrim on the PC and then uploading player-created mods. I suggest you try that that ruin the MMO genre for everyone else.
New DE’s to replace the old ones on some kind of rotational schedule (this should be done every month – every map should have, at minimum, one DE removed, and one added).
Do you realize what goes into creating those DE’s and that eventually they would just repeat each other and thus be a grind under your definition? Anet also does not have the resources to do this nor the financial capability. They would have to add a monthly subscription to even come close to making this feasible (especially along with your other suggestions).
One new class (every two years, minimum).
Each class should have a new weapon, and at least 3 new utility skills (every two years, minimum – though eventually, stop adding new weapons – there is a limit to how many weapons can be added to classes under this system).
And what’s to prevent creating classes that overlap. Also, isn’kitten grind to have to level another class? Isn’kitten grind to experience the same content again with another class?
A new playable race (Tengu, Koda, Skritt – my vote goes to Koda).
Same response as my one about your new class suggestion.
They’ve said time and time again that they will not release information until they’re ready. You will not receive any dates because if something happens, and it gets pushed back, everyone gives them flak for it.
Be patient.
What they should’ve done is remove all of the trees around that statue.
Thankfully you’re not in charge.
Every ele is going to be keeping Conjure Fiery Greatsword on their slot now (except for a few roamers or PvErs that have the golem glyph). So much for build diversity.
Yeah…. There’s nerfing that too.
Umm, or the developers adapt and start releasing more new content.
You obviously did not read and/or understood what I stated in my post. With a lower player base, as a result of your suggestion, they will be unable to do so. Your suggestion, if implemented, would severely shorten the lifespan of an MMO to the length of any console or PC game.
Scroll up to my post. I bolded at least one part you did not read that pertains to this post.
It also seems that you do not know what it takes to develop content. They don’t snap their fingers and “poof” there it is. It takes time. It takes people. It takes money. All of which is impossible if they did it your way. It’s impossible to create constant content without grind while maintaining a profit.

it’s..a video….I’m sure some will use it…but ..that would definitely take longer than reading gw2crafts. :/…
He has a link to a written guide in the video description but I can’t remember how detailed I was.
@ipan;
What you’re requesting is essentially Skyrim but with the possibility with playing with other players.
That’s about it, in a nutshell.
It’s ironic you should mention Skyrim, because I’ve been thinking of picking that up soon.
But yeah, Skyrim in an MMO format – that is, the ability to play with other people.
Sure.
Here’s the problem. Let’s say the upcoming feature pack removes all grind. We can use the repetive action of three or more times as the definition as this is consistent with what those against grind claim that grind is.
Drop rates would dramatically increase. Since farming is grinding, players would not have problems getting everything they need in a timely fashion. Crafting materials would be easy to come by, all armor sets would be easy to get, everyone could have the legendary weapon(s) that they crave, and so on. Everything in the game is within their grasp with little to no effort required on their part.
The economy would crash as players would have zero need for the TP. With such easy access to items, what need would players have to go to the TP or for other players to list their items on the TP? Everything not needed would be be vendored or trashed. Gold would have zero value. What reason is there for gold if everything is easily obtainable?
All gem store items would have to be purchased with cash. Converting gold would no longer be an issue as players would have so much that the rates would be incredibly high. There’s nothing to prevent inflation anymore but then that isn’t an issue as you don’t need gold.
Players now have nothing to work towards in the game. All that they have left is the content such as WvW, PvP, and PvE. Unfortunately, this gets stale eventually. Players can only do dungeons existing campaigns for so long before they’re bored. Most likely no more than a few times.
Player activity takes a dive as a result. With nothing to do in the game, they move on to other things. Group content becomes increasingly difficult to do because of the lack of players. This is then scaled down to be doable by yourself. Some may or may not remain challenging. There are also no champ trains, Orr trains, EotM trains, and so on. What reason is there for them to exist if you don’t need to grind for your rewards that you get from them? Player interaction also becomes less frequent.
ArenaNet eventually consolidates servers as there’s no longer enough players to justify a large number of servers. They also start charging for all additional content as the lack of players has reduced the income that they receive from gem store transactions. There will likely be less frequent content updates as they may not receive enough purchases to warrant keep all of their existing staff.
The game devolves into a single player game where players have easy access to everything and can experience everything within a month of playing. After that the game is discarded like so many other console games and PC games. How many of you continued to play Ocarina of Time after you got everything in the game and beat it? Did you continue to roam around for hours on end? Likely not.
With this, the MMO genre dies because people did not want nor understood what role grind played.
EDIT: Bolded part for ipan to read.

Less grinding means less people playing the games once they’ve experienced it enough times to be bored. You can only do AC Story, for example, so many times before you’re bored of it. Games would fail if they did what you want them to.
Because the idea of ‘farming’ is quite literally the worst thing that’s ever happened to MMO’s (or any game) in the entire history of gaming.
It’s a staple of the MMO genre. Console games and single player PC games are relatively farming free. You may find more enjoyment from those if you dislike farming.
I can see this possibly being more expensive than the gw2crafts guide.
Queensdale jumping puzzle has quite a few. Probably reached that high due to players going for the slayer achievement.
The grind is optional.
You don’t need to be fully decked in ascended. You don’t need to go after that legendary.
You can easily do all content this game has to offer just with exotics, which you can obtain really easily. Now if Ascended and Legendary is what you want (aka prestigious items that weren’t made to be worn by the entire playerbase in the first place), you will simply have to put in more work.
<insert amusing “well the game is optional so I don’t have to play it either” argument>
You’ll likely see something like the above as people always resort to that faulty logic which trying to counter someone’s argument about something being optional.
That point is fully valid and MAY in fact be the OPs best choice….the entire game IS optional. I’ve heard EVERYTHING but death and taxes are too….
I see that reasoning as nothing more than blowing something way out of proportion and distorting the opposing party’s argument with absurd exaggerations. I see it as using a strawman argument or something (maybe slippery slope?) but instead of treating it as if someone one else had said it, you’re using it as your own.
I don’t know. I’m probably not doing a great job explaining my opinion when I see that line of reasoning used.
