I wonder how valuable drops will be from champions. We could potentially go back to having people farm the champions at the beginning of some dungeon paths again if the rewards are worth it.
I know, bad zerker players are annoying, but to be fair, I’ve seen just as bad players in every other dungeon. AC might be the worst case (stand your ground from a guardian? why?),
You may want to roll guardian or at the very least look and see what Stand Your Ground does. Then think about why it would be useful in AC; especially after the revamp.
It’ll be nice to have more people doing other dungeons but we’ll also have more people who don’t know how to play properly since they only know CoF.
You have to kill the champion drake and the risen around that area.
I’m pretty sure both fractals will not be as amazing as people think. Just look at the ones we have now. None of them really tell a story. Only half are ones that people prefer to run. If the new fractal was like Cliffside or Dredge then it will be skipped by most players.
Hmmm. Oh well. At least there’s a workaround for it.
I’d check around the forums but I believe it’s based by the number of people on. There was a thread a while back that explained it.
You can also move for free if you delete all of your characters. Up to you or your friends if that’s worth it.
Try doing tier 3 and 4 in the same instance. Tier 4 may be bugged for some. This has worked for some people.
By any chance did you complete the advanced support for Evon?
There’s a separate entrance for each candidate’s trial. You do not need to be representing them. Kiel’s entrance is next to her by the edge railing. Gnash’s entrance is behind him next to a house.
I know that. I’m suggesting there’s an bug behind the scene that doesn’t separate them. I do recall my progress for one candidate’s trial transferring to the other since I was able to choose a tier other than the first one when I had never been to the trial for the candidate yet.
Some people are stating that if you do tier 3 followed by tier 4 in the same instance, you’ll get credit. It’s likely thakittens just tier 4 that is bugged. How many people who cannot get credit have completed it for the other candidate?
I wonder how many people that are not getting credit have completed it for the other candidate. Maybe the tier 4 for the candidate that needs to be completed is still registering as tier 4 for the completed one for some reason.
Like I complete all of Kiel’s tiers and then do Evon’s. I the. Don’t get credit for tier 4 since the game thinks I’m doing Tier 4 for Kiel despite what the interface says. It only happens for tier 4 but tier 3 resets it if you stay in the instance.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Do you have the Kiel advanced support completed? I’m wondering if there is a bug that causes credit to be glitched and goes to the other candidate.
They fixed a bug after two days, not mid event.
Try tier 4 again.
Every class has beaten this since the patch. This is a massive MULTIPLAYER online (MMO) game. You’re going to have to expect to group up for some content. Most of the game can still be done solo. Tiers 3 and 4 were meant to be challenging. There’s plenty of other achievements to do to get the reward so this is completely optional.
There are time constraints so this is a DPS check. If you don’t have enough DPS and CC, you’ll lose. You so need to use survivability abilities as well.
A lot of pugs fail because 90% of players do not know how to work as a team, play their class to its potential, and/or use techniques/strategies based on the mechanics of the fight. I see a lot who just run into mobs and spam whatever skills are available. Not many swap out abilities based on the situation but rather stay with the same 3 the entire time.
Tiers 3 and 4 are meant to be a challenge. The dev even stated such. They will not tone down the hp of the vets or whatever else. It’s not unreasonable that they have one small part of the game be challenging when 99% of the game is a face roll.
I believe it was stated that a warrior only did 20% damage to a plunderer whereas in solo they would have killed it. Lets assume that the scale was set to 5. This means that everything is five times that of solo. If a warrior can kill a plunderer in 2 seconds solo then it will take 5 warriors doing the exact same thing to do that. My point is that you can’t have only 2 DPS and expect to finish it easily. This isn’t a balanced group.
For the Advanced achievement it’s like this:
Tier 3 gives credit for only 1/2.
Tier 4 gives credit for both. This means you can do it twice and never have to do tier 3.
Everyone who’s having issues is likely for this reason. They did tier 4 without doing tier 3 first. Tier 4 counted as them doing tier 3. There’s several reasons why they got confused. If they did tier 4 again then they will get credit and complete the achievement.

You completed it before the new wp was added.
Re-read my comment. You can do Tier 4 and it will count towards tier 3.
Did you beat tier 3 for Evon first? Tier 4 can give credit for completing tier 3. Chance are that you need to beat tier 4 again.

There’s several thing confusing with the trial. The tier selection isn’t clear enough, doing tier 4 counts as doing a lower tier, and unlocked tiers from one candidate show up unlocked for the other.

It will take 1350 + 500 to craft the first ascended backpeice but another 500 to make the inherently +5AR infused backpeice (to give you +10AR total).
And another 500 to make it into a shiny
That’s because you’re not at the end of the puzzle.
Did you bet Tier 3 for Kiel or was it for Evon? Have you beaten Tier 4 for Kiel a second time?
And monthlies if you haven’t finished them yet.
I don’t like how things are turning out with these living story events. Stop catering for the ‘hardcore’ dungeon raiders, fact is not everyone is competent, the skill level will all vary between the players so the group composition will never be the best (even worse when you don’t have a proper LFG tool ingame). By making such difficult content with your average group of players, you are asking for a lot of criticism.
So they have one thing for hardcore players in a game that is 99% for casual players and you’re saying it’s too much? Am I getting that right? The challenging content is option by the way. You don’t need to do it.
While I don’t agree with the poster you’re responding to, I just personally wish they told us up front that this was supposed to be challenging content for the hardcore group. I do applaud them in creating the content such that anybody can experience, but not everybody will complete all of it. I would have absolutely avoided it the past few days had I understood this when it came out.
I, like a lot of other players, would absolutely work toward completing this if given enough time. But to do it in a week? That’s absurd. If they could just come out and tell me that some of this content isn’t meant for me, then I wouldn’t sweat it. Instead it took a huge negative reaction to say anything about it.
Yes. Perhaps if they were more upfront about it at the beginning then maybe people would not have gotten so upset about it.

You had the same opportunity as them to do the trials before they were patched.
That’s the same as saying “exploit bugs and faulty mechanics as much and as soon as you can”.
I was responding to the post I quoted. I wasn’t saying exploiting was right.
Regardless of whether or not this content is completable or not, I think this should be re-evaluated in terms of the goal and direction of the game as portrayed by Anet. If you want content to accessible to all classes and builds then all builds and classes should be taken into account. If I am supposed to be able to play the way I want, then I should not have to respec to complete this content. Changing out traits and utility skills, yes. But not completely respeccing my traits. If content can only be completed by a berserker warrior or if it cannot be completed by certain specs/classes then it should be told truthfully. (I am not suggesting that either of these are true about this content. I am making a point.)
The dev stated that they added Tiers 3 and 4 to be very challenging. It was intentional. Every class has been able to solo it since the patch. This is based on claims but I can personally say that warrior, ranger, and guardian can beat this solo.
There are a lot of games that require you to change your game play to overcome an obstacle. People need to learn to adapt. From what I heard from people on the forums, one of the areas in GW1 after you beat Abaddon was extremely difficult. Players figured out the correct builds and they conquered it. You can still complete 95% of the game however you want.
If you want people to play in groups then you should encourage group play by making things easier for coordinated groups and discourage solo play by making it hard to do solo. Yes, you will lose players but riding the fence makes no one happy.
Once again, this being very difficult was on purpose. If five people put as much effort into working as a group as they did to solo it, they will most likely succeed.
If you want people to enjoy your content, you should not make it a grind. Few people, if any, enjoy grinding. Having the same exact event twice with a different face and name on it does not promote happy feelings except in the few people who really enjoyed it and don’t care about repeating things.
This isn’t really a grind. Most games actually have a grind because that’s what keeps players occupied. You can only realize content so quickly as to not overwhelm casual players or too slowly to bore hardcore players. If content is rushed then it’s more prone to bugs and quality often suffers.
Doing tiers 3 and 4 is optional. You do not have to do it. This is meant as a challenge for players.
Unfix the patch you released on July 26 and give everyone the same opportunity to get the achievements.
You had the same opportunity as them to do the trials before they were patched.
To add my own thoughts in response to anet’s post:
A challenge is good. Difficulty is good. However, zerg fests and dps races are getting really old in this game. These “challenge events” feel lazy, half-done, and unoriginal.
Well having it so a group could faceroll through it is pretty much a zergfest in my opinion. That’s how a lot of the content in the game already is. This is only one out of maybe three DPS checks in the game. The other two being Simin and defend event on CoF Path 3.
Lazy because you made two of them that are exactly the same. For what purpose? One would have sufficed. If you wanted two separate events, you should have created something different for either Evon or Kiel. You made two completely different mini-games. Beautiful mini-games with a lot of skill and effort required. But you made one challenge event and pretended you had made two.
I agree with the duplication of content for this living story. It would’ve been nice if each achievement required you do different things rather than mirror each other.
Half-done because the scaling is almost ridiculous. You just kept adding more and more of these mobs. There is nothing different from Tier 1 to Tier 4 with the exception of the number of mobs and their health pools. In addition, doing it with a group is harder than doing it solo. I have yet to complete it with either but I noticed a serious difficulty drop when I switched over to soloing it. If my group is coordinated and working together (which they were for the most part) it should be easier than soloing it. Want proof of that? Take a look at a plunderer’s health pool with 5 people versus 1. I can burn down a plunderer all by myself when I solo. When there are 5 people in there, 2 dedicated dpsers can’t down one before he goes and comes back even with as many CCs as we can muster being used.
Adding more mobs and increasing their health is a common tactic in the majority of games. They could add advanced mechanics like in Aetherblade Retreat. People still complained about that just like people are complaining now. No matter how they choose to make things more difficult, people will still be unhappy.
I put what your problem is in bold. You’re expecting an event scaled up to FIVE people to be able to be done with two people who essentially carry the group with their DPS. You need the entire team working together and providing support and DPS.
Finally, unoriginal because this is no different than anything else in the game. When you go to a dungeon, bosses with the exception of AC, are just spam buttons until he dies. There is no strategy and no teamwork. There might be some dodging you have to do but beyond that, it’s nothing more than button spam. I thought the whole point of the changes to AC and boss encounters like in the Aetherblade Retreat was to get away from this button-mash system.
Actually, there is strategy to AC and AR. It’s just that a lot of players are lazy and rely on exploits that essentially allow you to faceroll through past boss mechanics and just auto-attack.
There’s strategy for the Trials in that you need to work as a team to kill the plunderers before they send off the loot while managing with the other pirates. For solo, there’s a strategy that a lot of us figured out by looking at the situation and analyzing what we should do. There is also a strategy for groups as well.
Zerging the champions is hardly the quickest way to level. I tested it and I made a ton more experience per hour doing map completion than from the champion events.
When I see them harassing other players, I intentionally spawn and kill the troll to troll them. I’ve also done the same with the bandit and oak.
They can talk to the npc to see what each is offering. It doesn’t need to be shown each time that you donate. People should research who they vote for. It’s good practice when they’re in the real world.
The fractal being the trump card for Evon is debate-able. Not everyone wants to do the Abaddon fractals. A lot actually want the other.
I found axe/mace to be better than gs and rifle.
Just to clarify:
The type of player you are (casual vs hardcore) does not relate to skill level.
That is, the situation is really embarrassing … I’m the only member of my guild that has reached 2500 points in the Achievement Southsun Survival: High Scorer, playing roughly 70-80 rounds without even see the shadow of the Desert rose skin … while some of my friends, despite having played half of my rounds have Dropped almost all the skin, some even 2 and 4 others! Congratulations again to the meritocracy that demonstrates this game and congratulations on your decision to remove the magic find … so it never worked and we all know!
MF only affects drops from kills. You would not see any difference from event rewards.
Did you do it in order starting with tier 1 for that candidate?
You have to kill something when protecting the carrier. You do not get credit for just being there. I arrived at a guild mission with three minutes left. I did not kill anything and thus did not receive credit.
I agree with the OP. Right now it’s been very hard for me to score points. I usually end up with no weapon at the start making it hard to kill anyone for points. As a ghost, again it depends on finding a survivor and getting them to trigger the trap you set. So at the end of the game even though I managed to survive to 4th or 3rd, there’s no credit for that. I end up with 10 pts per game. I know I’m not good at this game, but I do think some points for surviving any length of time would be reasonable.
Collecting revenge emotes gives you points.

This IS their inbox for this kind of thing. That’s what we’re doing.
This is our only recourse to do so.
Why do you even say something so off-topic and snide on a thread that was BUILT to do exactly what you just said?
This is not off topic and hardly snide. Just because you happen to not like the comment does not mean that it is. I was just suggesting a route that will more likely get you a response.
The forums are not the only way to get a hold of Anet and is far far from being your only recourse.
Tier 4 is essentially a DPS check.
I disagree with this completely, given the silly amount of vets in the encounter you can’t effectively deal with them all and take the plunders, prehaps a few here and there but as time dwindles down it starts to pile up.
I think it is more an encounter for choice and decision, knowing what to kill and what not to kill, this seems entirely more appropriate and given the tips that others have provided this seems to back this up more, killing the plunders is fine for all the classes it would seem, the problem lays with this silly obstacle course of getting to them.
To be honest, I would love to see a dev show us how to do this, and prehaps even one of their QA’s given the failure rate this so called fix has provided.
It just seems with ANET, that their solution to all their problems is quantity…. quantity over quality….
DPS check in regards to the pillagers. If you can’t do enough damage then you lose. CC can make up for some DPS but not the majority of it.
Evon fans: go play GW1
If you dislike it then I suggest you get everyone who hates this and flood Anet’s inbox with emails about it. You are their customer after all.
Did you go to the exact location they were and see if you could activate it despite not seeing it?
Some bug was introduced about a week ago that’s preventing some effects from being displayed. In the dredge fractal, you cannot see the lava effect or the ring. In WvW, the sentry ring does not show up yet if you stand where it normally is, you’ll get credit to claiming it.
This can be solo’d with warrior at least. It plays down to RNG with how the mobs act but it can be done..
Yeah I know. I did it as warrior. Most of the solo story I saw were about using war.
But the thing is. My friend has an ele. He did evon T4 before the patch. But now he cant do kiel t4. He tried every build he can find.
I tried to help him. But the scaling kicks in.
It’s just bad.
Yeah. There are a lot of classes that will not be able to do this because they lack the CC and DPS. Tier 4 is essentially a DPS check. You can compensate for DPS with CC but you will still need a decent amount.
that doesn’t help. veterans spawn near the mortars by that stage. and certainly spawn mid. with theice grenades your movement is 15% too
You have to anticipate when they will spawn and hang back when they do so you don’t get aggro
Whoever says to solo this apparently need to do it again. Especially after yesterday patch. It buffed it so much that’s it impossible.
I myself did solo both evon and kiel t4 before without bug. But It is now too hard.
I’m complaining for a friend of mine. It doesnt like he have a chance to complete it anymore.
This can be solo’d with warrior at least. It plays down to RNG with how the mobs act but it can be done..
The key is to get as many kills as possible and then die right where the grace period ends. This way you will have first dibs and the blue orbs. I normally average around 70 points. Going for last survivor is just too risky to be worth it since you could just finish the match with 12 points if you lose.
Warrior can solo tier 4. You just have to play the RNG with how the mobs act. If they remain in the middle then reset.
This probably would be easier if they did two things:
- Fix the aggro range. Getting aggro from over 2,000 away is ridiculous considering nothing else in the game has that long on an aggro range.
- Fix it so they leash properly. Nothing more annoying than to have five of them come at you from the loot and NEVER go back.
I had 2500 left with about 2 minutes remaining. One of them decided to aggro from clear across the map and brought everything else with it that did not want to leave. Needless to say I failed. Basically people will have to keep playing this over and over and hope RNG plays in their favor.
Oh yeah. After a wipe, two veteran grenadiers don’t despawn with the others forcing you to clear those before you can restart.
