conditions in this game are a low skill floor/ceiling game play
I’ve encountered many condition builds in WvW & if you can convince them to switch to power the amount of fail you witness is worth it’s weight in gold.
The problem with conditions are real in WvW due to the way stat combos can be made with gear. Anet has given up on balancing WvW & are only balancing based of PvE & PvP.
Sad
Necro is actually OP and in need of a serious nerf.
i tried staff thief in zerging i prefer if you run it with a centaur banner over anything else. with out a self generating stab source you get destroyed.
Proper guild group is what he’s running with. The stab is being given to him by his guild mates.
A thief with proper support has always been able to front line. If you can do it you get the benefit of big damage, stealth, and pretty much unlimited blast combo’s.
Yeah I tried two blob builds with condi. Double shortbow DA-TR-DD tried it as both trailblazer/carrion – sigil of venom/sigil of bursting – sigil of corruption-energy spam choking and lotus dodge in it but i didn’t like the build as much as acro staff.
Problem with that one is that you can only burst one player with steal and dodge on him etc to condi bomb. If u want to run like a backline choking has such a bad range and u cant stack as much condi so its just not good enough imo, i could record it as well if interested to see
Please record & post so we can gauge the current build they theory crafting.
Just wanted to showcase the possibility of frontline thief: https://t.co/OqKBA1dOqV
It’s a very selfish build the only “support” you can give is signet of agi which gives you endurance/3 condi clear to your teammates other than that it’s just pure damage
Me and a few friends have been theory crafting a new frontline thief build based off the original one they ran back in the day.
So far it’s looking pretty nice, and if you want I’d share since it’s not a “GvG” build
It’s time to remove DBL from the game completely.
1. The majority do not want to play it as evidenced by the other two types having higher queues or DBL just not even having one.
2. Most importantly the server who has DBL as their home has a distinct advantage over the other two.
Let’s face it fellas the map needs to go
For some reason today every since the new build became available I’ve had insane latency issues. Like 2k ping and average of 500.
Normally I play at 50ms every other day.
Anyone else having this problem and can Anet give me an answer?
We need to update the loyalty pip description.
You need to earn at least 75 pips for 3 weeks in a row to earn the loyalty bonus. We wanted players to have to participate in skirmishes to be considered loyal.
Hello, I’m not quite clear on this.
So you need to get
75+ pips on week 1
75+ pips on week 2
75+ pips on week 3And then so long as you remain on the server, you will get the loyalty bonus?
Or will the streak reset if you miss a week, and you need to do all 3 again?Needing to earn 100+ pips weeks 1, 2 and 3 is correct. If you miss a week you will need to do all 3 again.
*Edit: It should be 100 pips not 75. So you need to complete all of Wood Tier for 3 weeks.
I dont agree with that i’m sorry.
Just being on the same server for 3 weeks should net you the bonus pip.
Friday should see some unlinking of servers
I don’t understand the point of the hype. It reminds me of the Chrono hype before HoT came out.
Whatever they release will be promptly nerfed back to the stone ages because god forbid Mesmer actually be useful.
Mesmer has been a staple in the meta in every game mode since HoT released.
Mesmer has been a requirement not useful.
lol
I guess we have a different idea of usefulness.
If you are satisfied spamming quickness in PvE fighting cron scripts, that’s on you.
It’s PvE so what. We’re more important than the DPS guys.
Maybe you should realize that mesmer can’t be both support and best DPS
More important than the guys that will ensure the boss is dead before it enrages and one shots everyone? Think you have a warped list of importance.
Since no-one specifically mentioned raids, chrono makes very little difference in fractals depending on the instabilities and in actual fact can be more of a hinderence overwriting regen from druids. It also isn’t required for anything but skips and a few places where moa allows for speedy kill (100 CM final 33%) but it’s not more important than the people dealing damage as without them the chrono is effectively useless.
Also in terms of buff bots druid is by far the biggest DPS increase in any PvE content, you have spotter, GoTL, frost/sun spirit, helps maintain scholar uptime, GoE and pretty good breakbars damage.
If I had to list roles in importance it would be:
1 druid buffbot
DPSx2
Chrono
DPSx1 (x2 if no decent chronos)Raiding being end game (elitist and toxic if you believe the forums) content you should run optimised and no-one will deny chrono is mandatory just as only a fool would say DPS is in any way less important. They all have an important part to play and a bad player will be a big hinderence whatever they play.
I bolded the important parts of your post.
Thank you for agreeing with me and have a nice night.
Ele has been a mainstay in the meta since what 2014? Every time we see Anet change things we get the “Sky is Falling” threads from players about ele’s.
If they were some how nerfed out of the meta then so be it since they’ve been there for 3 years straight now.
p.s. FYI no class in the history of GW2 has been more OP then Ele. Remember 4x Ele winning a tournament with a bunch of no names beating pros? I do.

Just wanted to comment and say that of course anet deleted the thread that rarnark and Naru called them out on… cant be seen having the best pvp players say how bad your balance patch is.
It’s not like they fixed match manipulation or smurfing this patch….
Actually 10 v 10 is the sweet spot. Once you watch the game mode you lean to see what’s going on. You can see the blocks, buffs, heals, etc.
I could personally watch 20 v 20 and identify what’s taking place
HoT though is tough I’ll admit. Reason I said core only
Then do a commentary on one of those 15vs15 GvG videos and tell me what is going on. I simply can’t trust you on this
Because all those casters on GvG games must be so bad that the only thing they are saying are like ‘oh x player is down. y player is low’.
This is really the only shoutcasted GvG source I can remember. This is the last episode or he may have done another one. He does go through 2 matches an episode where he describes what’s going on.
Have to remember there was no option to spectate like PvP and all the streams from players had zero comms being broadcasted due the innate secrecy of them & builds.
See if you can identify why the top two teams in each region won the matches
Describing comps and telling the viewers how they are buffing up is considered shoutcasting?
Watch the rest of the episodes for better “shoutcasting”
Remember this had zero Dev support and was more popular than PvP on all levels.
Well I guess I killed off the naysayers lol
Please let’s implement this and have it like the old tPvP queue system.
Sad we cannot do one world tournament and not EU/NA separately. More teams, more cash prize, more fun more everything.
You can but each team would need 5 alt HoT accounts in the other region. Most pro players had them im pretty sure. I would do a champions league style tournament with each EU/NA team having one home game
1200 range Condi burst would be worse than 1200 range power burst.
Let’s use our heads here.
I wouldn’t push it 10v10. There is enough visual noise in 5v5 already.

The only issue remaining is you can dodge the shatter and due to the changes Anet made still get hit.
Iirc that’s only Daredevil with the increased dodge range. Everyone else can still do it fine.
Nope regularly do it to everyone depending angle of shatter
I’m more of a pessimist. I’m just assuming they’ll nerf the hell out of Chronomancy, to make the new ES more desirable. :P
This is so true.
I expect all old elites to get gutted pretty bad to make way for the new ones. I’m hoping the new elite brings power shatter back into the meta.
But I feel its, going to be a afk AI meta for us
The only issue remaining is you can dodge the shatter and due to the changes Anet made still get hit.
OP is either trolling, joking or just new to PvP.
Thief is in fact one of the least forgiving, and most underpowered classes currently in the game.
lol
i have bunch of games on thief and staying alive as thief is 5000 times easier than it is with almost any other class
DH / Warrior can have it very hard if focused by multiple people once their CD’s are down, what does a thief do? simple, just teleport away and survive
thief is unforgiving? lmao, thats why they have 0 sec cd unblockable teleport and also their steal always takes stability first. So unforgivable ! Someone is about to outplay you by anticipating ur backstab and using stability? not today
someone uses a slow to catch u? lol.someone uses a stun on u? as if that matters
unforgivable .. right..
Please post video of you playing thief because going by this accounts post history you do not play thief.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/incisorr-9502/showposts
I’m sorry but the OP has been posting this anti thief propaganda since the release of the game. Also lots of anti mesmer too. It seems he/she thinks only big damage should come from Warriors or Rangers lol. An actual post in the history I linked….seriously.
Thieves at this stage in the game are far from OP. If you ignore the thief and win team fights you will make him obsolete. We saw it in Pro league, and we have all seen it during ranked season play. To base your entire opinion off a <5% of active thieves is just a witch hunt at this point in time. I’ve seen warriors carry matches, I’ve seen engies carry matches, I’ve seen Mesmers carry matches, etc etc etc.
I invite the OP or anyone who is having problems with OP thieves to post a video of their gameplay to show us how the thief is OP.
So let’s let this thread die and start a new one with the videos of y’all’s game play. We’ll use this new thread to help give advice & tips on what you should or shouldn’t have done. In some instances I’m sure pro thieves will let you know you had zero chance b/c the player was just that good.
Thank you and have a nice day.

Hmm still not convinced. But who knows maybe the devs will see value in your proposal.
Well WvW GvG back when it was a thing was more popular then Anet’s Pro League. It’s something you’ve obviously never partook.
That was a community run scene too so imagine what woulda happened if it actually got the Dev support.
10v10 with PvP stats I think would be a wonderful addition to the game. Give it proper support and you might be surprised at what happens.
You are right. I never could get into WvW that much because there is simply not enough incentive to do so. Except for quick dailies of course. But anyway, I kinda feel like in PvP most are already complaining that X class is too strong against X class for X reason. If you double on the number of classes taking part into the fight, it would be even more chaotic to see and actually understand wha class procced what effect to what benefit. As it stands now you’re able to do so because players rotate around points but in a TDM environment….man this a not classic trinity system where a monk is there to to play one particular build that will target and heal/support one particular teammate that is being focused. We just really need to open up some diversity with the addition of specs and have a proper 5v5 team only mode, provided the playerbase is there to do so.
You are speaking on something you have no idea on how it works. I play PvP & GvG and can speak with certainty.
You don’t even understand the best part of this games mechanics in combo fields. Organized teams with proper use of combo fields & CC injunction with top notch cohesiveness is what’s it’s all about. It takes more coordination and team work in GvG then PvP
That is all nice but the problem here is that the OP talks about PVP….not GvG in WvW. I perfectly undestand the combo fields and value the mechanics of the game in a cohesive team environment (and by the way insulting my “knowledge” is really not necessary). Your idea made me think about the HoH battles in Guild Wars and the GvG battle. But the problem is that your ideas of bringing a team of 10 coordinated people will never work as long as there is still no proper 5v5 team only environment in the game. You said you could watch 20v20 and understand what is happening but you really believe that the majority of the playerbase will get used to this under a system where people play ranked solo-duo and unranked in non even teams ? I still maintain that the visual noise in 5v5 is already strong enough for people that play and for the other that watch to truly understand what is going on, how do you solve that in 10v10 and 20v20 ? Or you just believe that visual noise is only due to elite specs ?
I’m not insulting simply stating a truth. You mentioned the Holy MMO trinity and that showcased how little you actually know about large scale combat in GW2. Truth of the matter is you don’t need the trinity in the least b/c you are healing with combo fields. You were applying might, protection, and basically all the boons you needed by extremely coordinated teamwork.
The OP talks about PvP b/c WvW has been neglected. So much so that just about every guild who did GvG has left the game. At one point in time there were almost 200 GvG guilds in this game.
Anyways please leave gw1 gvg out of the conversation. Its gone and the combat system in this game would not support it. Infact I prefer the combat system in this game over the insane clicking based movement system of GW1.
Please do some research on the subject material. I’m literally stopping myself from typing novels b/c you honestly don’t know anything about this.
Have a nice day and feel free to PM me for some links to videos and stuff.

I’d support 10v10 TDM style mode.
The only issue I truly see is not having the customization that WvW had, but I’d still take it using PvP amulets.
Also I’d make this game mode core builds only because HoT kills the game mode
(edited by Azukas.1426)
The only way to make 1v1 work is to ban thieves or at least limit their trait and weapon choices. Otherwise a thief could infinitely drag out (and invariably win) any match not against other thieves.
You shouldn’t be automatically losing to thieves 1v1 playing 6/8 of the other professions in this game.
I really don’t get it. Why would that be so? Because we all assume it to be a Sharpshooter (ranged heavy hitter)? Then stealth stealth would pose an issue. Not necessarily mobility. As I said, P/P isn’t overperforming either.
Yeah, we got to wait. But why make and insist on such an argument then?
To potentially dance the ‘I-told-you-so’-dance afterwards?
P/P sucks b/c main pistol sucks balls. If you make Pistol 1 actually worth pressing then P/P would become a contender overnight.
I dont care which weapon we get i’m more interested in the actual traitline & skills
1200 range weapon on the most mobile class in the game with on demand stealth doesn’t bode well for balance.
If it was that easy P/P would be way more successful. The 300 range difference hardly is that big of an issue (maybe WvW aside) if it being paired with such an outstanding mobility was that bonkers.
As I said, maybe there is a reveal on the #1 or whatever the OHK-button will be. Maybe the OHK-button will drain all your Initiative. Maybe 2-4 skills on Rifle won’t have 1200 range (e.g. Engi) so will be toothless aside from your AA. Maybe the spec lacks innate stealth or only gets Camouflage. There are ways to balance it. We also got no clue about the class-mechanic.
Regardless, so far not the e-spec I’m looking forward to the most.
It doesn’t bode well for balance under GW2 game mechanics. You can throw out all the maybe’s in the world, but you can’t deny rifle on the most mobile stealthiest class in the game isn’t a wee bit scary in terms of overall game balance.
Now I also said let’s wait and see, but then again I don’t have much faith in balanced games after an expansion pack.
Rifle on thief is gonna be so broken…
We will see. Maybe stealthed #1 causes Reveal and has a 2s casttime like Killshot.
1200 range weapon on the most mobile class in the game with on demand stealth doesn’t bode well for balance.
Let’s see how it pans out, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have to call for nerfs after this one.
Rifle on thief is gonna be so broken…….id rather give you guys Great Sword with a new traitline based off shadow steps
Changing the floors does literally nothing for mid level and high level PvP, while at the same time throwing new players under the bus.
I think you need to read the OP again because you missed most of the post
I don’t think you know what a skill floor is.
Nobody on the leaderboard is playing at or near the skill floor. The variance in classes skill floor has no bearing on a class’s distribution on the leaderboard. Saying that low skill floor classes “dominate” ranked seasons is false, unless you are talking about ability to dominate bronze.
Skill floor is the minimum skill required to play the class to get decent results. Skill ceiling is the amount of skill needed to reach maximum results.
For every season so far there have been classes with very low skill floors that are always picked to play. (Gonna pick on DH. Not complaining about DH just using an example) Look at DH. Remember you’d queue into a ranked game and there would be a minimum of 4 DH’s in a given game? This is the classic example of low skill floor carrying players and dominating ranked play. Even Evan the Dev stated DH had too low a skill floor for the rewards you’d get. And this was apparent in EVERY tier of PvP.
So while I appreciate the input and your opinion, please be aware I’m not here to nerf classes, but instead create an environment that rewards skillful play.
Thank You
p.s. I forgot to add games like Counterstrike have an insanely high skill floor to compete. These games generally kitten on GW2 in terms of viewership & # of players who play the game. Creating a game that fosters skillful play does not hinder it’s growth, but as history shows nutures it.

Too many classes have low skill floors and/or ceilings. Can we get devs to focus on raising these?
Each season you tend to see the classes that are the easiest to play & highest reward dominate every season.
Can we please get a increase in either the skill floor or drastic decrease in the effectiveness of the low skill floor classes/builds
Thx
Go back to the summer of 2013 and actually have the dev team devote resources to the game mode to support the growing Pro Scene that was GvG before Blood Lust killed it.
That time period was perfect for WvW b/c we started to see the players create a scene which could have easily become a pro scene. You had like 5 guilds per non clustered SERVER who GvG’d and participated in the GvG website. If the devs would have nurtured that scene it would have grown into a extremely popular Pro Scene
Population is too low to come to any accurate conclusions about Anet’s MM system.
Problem is they gutted their PvP pop by castrating the rewards & killing off Pro League.
The balance issues and all the other problems with GW2 PvP can be played around while still maintaining an overall pleasant experience for the user
NA players tend to not stick with developer’s games that make critical mistakes & refuse to identify let alone try to correct them
EU tend to be more faithful & refuse to accept reality
Was confused then realized this is about PvE.
Sorry not a big PvE’r but you can do a lot with many specs. Is it “meta”? No, but then again meta doesn’t matter much in PvE.
I can’t comment on Raids or Fractals b/c IMHO go with a group of friends rather than pugging.
Most of the players in WvW are just upset that nothing has really happened in months and we feel like we’ve been ignored.
We just want to see what is actually going on behind the scenes with WvW, maybe given some DevBlog update style stuff since you’ve been mostly silent on what is changing and being worked on.
Different companies communicate in different ways and sometimes the process evolves over the years. Mike O’Brien explained how we choose to communicate in this forum post a few years ago. What he said was, “We’ve set a clear policy in the past year: we don’t talk speculatively about future development. We don’t want to string you along. Creating fun is an uncertain business: sometimes things work out and sometimes they don’t; sometimes we go back to the drawing board over and over before we get something right. If we make optimistic promises and then can’t deliver on them, everyone suffers. So when we attend a trade show or give an interview, we’re there to talk about what we’re getting ready to ship, not to speculate on what we might ship someday.”
I understand that some players would prefer a different manner of communication. I wanted to share the comments above to show that silence does not point to inaction or neglect or indifference.
We understand about Anet’s policy of not discussing future dev projects etc.
BUT
How’s that working out for y’all? Sales down, Population down, Interest in the game plummeting, Pro League gone, etc. etc. etc.
Not bashing you guys. I just think it’s time to change your tactics b/c the ones you’ve employed aren’t working.
<edit>Forgot to add if you feel like players bash devs who post here I’m at a loss if you don’t understand. For years the WvW players have been treated pretty badly. They’ve watched entire guilds up and quit due to the negligence on Anet’s part in regards to this game mode. I know most of my friends list now if forever grey due to Anet’s behavior.
As a team & company you have to step back and ask yourselves. “What would I do in their shoes?”
You’ll realize you guys pretty much deserve these outbursts. I’m not condoning them in the least or will i partake, but I’m just being honest
(edited by Azukas.1426)
I’m aware of Tyler’s posts, which if you read them don’t ever promise a 3rd borderlands map. I just wanted to clarify that nowhere in the polls did we say anything about creating a 3rd borderlands map, even though that is stated as a ‘fact’ over and over again on the forums.
The one fact you are completely ignoring.
If that terribly designed PvEcentric DBBL map was voted off the island ANet state they’d NEVER make another map for WvW again. You rigged the poll so all that miss placed hard work on a such a terrible map wouldn’t go to waste. You’d validate it b/c the players voted to keep it but in reality they voted for a chance at a new map in the future.
I won’t get into the morale of what was done by Anet or condemn you, but those are the facts. Please stop ignoring them and give the players a new map or remove DBBL
Thank you
I see tons of ppl who complain about the weakness of power d/d. I’ve known about this build and fought against it prolly since HoT came out. Never said anything b/c quite frankly I don’t play thief and it wasn’t mine to share.
Nothing ground breaking but all together fighting against it for me has been a breath of fresh air. The few thieves I know who run this absolutely love it.
Here’s another version that focuses on Might and uses Str runes:
Haven’t really seen that one in action, but it looks like it could be fun.
Dunno hope you all enjoy
Ah that explains it.
I thought bound was vault.
Never mind then.
Are you serious right now?
