I respect what I think is trying to be done here, but if its just survivability you want, you can run a higher damage set and and use mantra heal, mantra pain, mantra resolve with the trait to heal the entire party everytime you mantra. Ive face tanked mai trin with this plenty of times.

for the life of me I cannot beat longbow rangers on my engi 1v1. no idea why. I do good against mesmers, except one in my guild who I need to destroy because im losing sleep over it. are condi builds the way to go?
ive run mantra of pain and mantra of resolve on one of my mesmers (main pve mesmer) since launch. I actually like this change though, I see some… interesting things I can do. This with the chaos armor trait…yesssss….

I’m getting back into the pvp scene. I usually run mesmer and necro for serious fights and engi for fun but more and more I prefer engi
I see a reaper coming at me with his greatsword, I drop my 2 skill and auto attacks, he gets close and I push him back with my auto attack and cripple him just enough time to get my 2 skill in again. He cone in for the kill I drop my 5 skill on him, my 4 skill, and another 2 while dodging back. He’s getting close my auto attack knocks him back again, I use my 3 skill and get the blind. Drop another 2 skill on him.
People aren’t giving dh any credit, going to be very powerful I think.
Reaper has 66 percent reduction in cripple time so good luck with that. Also he won’t be coming to you he’s going to pull you to him. Don’t worry about Aegis because he has 4 seconds of unblock able attacks after his shout. You better dodge back, but he has a leap now also.
You’re predictable combo is super flawed. Did you not even realize how much stability a Reaper has?
And according to norn lore they have plenty of access to magic. Actually humans only received magic later as well, they didn’t always have the ability to use it
This is so silly lol. First off the humans, as of gw2, would probably win because they have much more discipline And are a fighting tribe. With that said, norn don’t have armies. Gameplay of course norn are equal with humans and asura in terms of strength. According to lore and the books, an average morn is capable of crushing a legion of charr. their strength and speed have no rival. The only thing that allowed the humans to become so grand was their blessings from the gods that are now gone. now a hero, meaning a powerful human like the one the main player plays as in the story for example, can fight any norm. Humans have just as Hugh potential as any other race, but an average norm can walk into a human town and ravage it
I think it would make sense to change how shroud knight is activated. I don’t think shroud knight should replace death shroud, but you should in fact have access to both. Increase the damage and range on death shroud so it’s our ranged option.
I’m more concerned that a lot of this will be nerfed. There are some very, very strong combos right now. Which I think is needed, and we’ve always needed, but some of these traits and skills will be incredible in the right circumstances/with the right team/in the hands of the right player.
I agree with Roe. With some of the insane concept builds coming to life the Reaper will be devastating. Teleports on a Reaper don’t make sense conceptually speaking as it wouldn’t fit into the theme Reapers have been given which is I might be slower GS wise and lose range from DS shifting to KS (Knight Shroud or Reaper Shoud) but eventually (any good Necromancer able to setup and adjust to fluid combat) will catch his prey with the amount of chill the spec has to offer along with the abilities from other weapon sets. As for group play if you want condi removal equip Trooper runes and they will condi clear on your shouts. Or, another lesser known option is Unholy Martyr which will periodically remove 1 condition every 3 secs from 1 party member at a time. However concept wise, every 9 seconds you’d remove 3 condi’s. When compared to a skill like Mantra of Resolve that has a 20 second recharge it can AOE cleanse 4 condi every 20 seconds. Or with the rework traits coming to Mesmer’s core line the skill Mantra of Recovery coupled with the new Mender’s Purity trait which will make the actual channel heal as well as the two casts heal for upwards of easily 6k+ to you with a 10s CD removing 6 conditions from 5 members around you. This is alot of condi removal for PvE,PvP, or WvW for your party while giving healing to your party. This is an EXTREME case of condi removal and group play. Unholy Martyr will only remove 3 every 10 seconds which is on par with the Warriors Burst ability clearing 3 conditions. It only scales the longer you’re in KS which with the newly reworked Unholy Martyr recovers 10% of your LIFE FORCE per condition it receives. Meaning you will recover 30% of your LF every 10 seconds just sitting in it without even attacking with the AA. This will allow you to almost stay in KS, and knowing that health siphoning abilities will work through the new KS it means you could effectively flip your actual health bar into your second health bar IF you needed to recover LF if you took on to many conditions yourself in which Consume Conditions becomes a much better heal don’t you think? Reaper doesn’t need saving-maybe some small tweaking but not saving. Btw I made this up small part of a build below in less than 5mins overlooking the new traits with Reaper builds. Imagine the possibilities after finding out the builds that aren’t discovered yet?
So for instance. If you were to take that example into a 5m dungeon coupling it with Plague Signet . This literally means that every 10s you’ll receive a potential x15 (1 condition from every party member every 3s – 5 potential condition every 3s) conditions from your party with it totaling 150% OF YOUR LIFE FORCE alone IF you were in KS without the Unholy Martyr passive procs-with it this means you’ll total a MASSIVE 180% gain in Life Force. In my opinion, with the newly reworked Blood Magic offer vampiric aura (We don’t know how it’ll work yet exactly) with the ability to take x6 condtions every 3s while in KS (Knight Shroud) with the new Unholy Martyr trait will mean you literally might be able to out “heal” the damage the conditions might be doing to you from PvE,Fractal instances. While all along applying tons of vuln and crowd control for your party to actually DPS while doing tons of damage yourself. Is this not supportive enough for ANY PvE content. It literally matches the extreme condition cleanse of Mesmers traited Mantra of Recovery. Btw all of this could be done in DPS armor, if you were to place this Reaper in ANY sort of tank PVT armor. He’d literally be able to tank most if not all boss fights in the game without dodging in PvE/Fractals instances I suspect.
Also I just realized that the Suffer shout would become MUCH more useful with this build giving you three ways to clear alot of conditions if you were loaded down too much via Consume Conditions and Suffer hitting 5 players transferring 5 conditions and Plague Signet itself active ability. Tbh this might be brought to great devastation in a Condition Reaper build wearing Carrion armor in tandem with Epidemic conceptually speaking.

Thief does hard counter Mesmer but it is what it is. Anyway chrono looks amazing, but I am too annoyed that we just got an offhand shield. I feel we should get a new main hand as well. Oh well

I think reaper shouts are so so, but if they buff minions we can have some serious fun
First off, I don’t want it to make it seem like I don’t appreciate the changes because I actually do. They fix a lot of issues that we have in PVE setting. That’s it. It doesn’t really do much in a PvP/WvW setting.
So based on the POI, I still believe necromancers are going to be overwhelmed in unbalanced fights (2v1, 3v1, 3v2, etc).
So now, in PvE, you can do a ton of damage, tank enemies, and even help allies by giving them life siphon. AWESOME! Cool….I guess. But that doesn’t help me out when I’m facing actual players.
Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite. The changes seem very interesting for spvp and wvw (especially roaming small scale or plain zvz aoe damage) and address very few of the necros problems in pve.
Necro already does a TON OF DAMAGE. Guess what they were and still are lacking? Group support and utility. Necro’s aren’t geting shunned by groups due to lacking damage(at least not groups of experianced players). They get shunned because they bring nothing to the table besides damage, which others bring as well along with utility and support.
Why should we support allies directly like that? That’s never been the necro (in GW2, anyway.) It seems to me, that, ideally, we’d be the ones charging in, maybe with a warrior or guard buddy, and having a back line of support/ranged dps. In that scenario, yeah, we’re being “carried” in terms of boons. But, we’re also drawing a ton of aggro and relieving pressure on squishier allies. I fail to see how that’s a significant problem.
It’s all about a different mindset. I know I don’t want necros to be the same as everyone else in terms of support. Some incidental support abilities wouldn’t be bad, but that is kind of a bad focus for a death themed class.
Do that successfully in fractals 40+ and I’ll applaud you. Mob damage will slice you down faster than your third GS autoattack will go through.
My guardian (full ascended zerker) might take 2-3 hits from trash before he goes belly up. Won’t be very different for a light armor class.
But you might put on tanky gear… -> have fun finding a group in zerker meta.
I’m not sure what you mean? I run frac 50 on my necro almost daily l, in zerker, just fine. granted it’s not the Mets but it’s not by any means super difficult. Ubless that’s not what you’re saying I’m a bit confused sry

Here is my problem with what was shown:Why would I ever play base Necromancer?
Base necro may get buffs, but a condition based reaper seems extremely viable.
Reaper will be tanky. Siphons working in DS is huge especially if you are a tank. With the new traits you will have perma chill, meaning every hit gains you might, and if you have spite more might when they are below 50% . You can have anywhere from 4~max might depending on chill and targets.
Attacking in reaper shroud will keep you in reaper shroud, 2 adds poison which can have -10% damage along with -15% damage from chill and possible -33% from protection and -10% from frost armour if you have it. Also you can siphon in it. There is potential to have 100% crit in DS and the #4 skill hits 11 times per target. 1.1k heal per target from vampiric and vamp precision, not counting any new siphon aura, gs siphon or bloodthirst. Also if you take it every time you grant yourself might you will get an extra 133 hp. At best on 3 targets in RS you will heal yourself for just under 10k with a single skill.
1v1 as it is now you can essentially be unkillable. same pretty much up to 3 targets in which it will take a long time to kill you. long enough for support ot your team to cap other points in pvp. This is huge.
Also skills that render damage to 0 will have a lesser effect on us since siphon damage will still happen afaik.
Exactly. The longer the fight goes the bigger advantage you get. The only problem I see is blinds from thief which every melee spec can’t deal with easily. The constant poison might vuln and chill in aoe form is ridiculous. It’s not about disengaging it’d about keeping your ene.y where they are while your team comes to you. People are not going to 1v1 reapers easily and burst g tank ones down is going to be very difficult. I understand exactly what you’re saying g but if you look at the traits, reaper is the new Guardian
I agree with everything the above poster said except about wvw. The Reaper is going to be a zero meta. It’s auto attack alone while in DS is ridiculous. It’s not slow like gs not in ds form, plus it will have mega aoe chill. I agree with everything else though

The guardian didn’t NEED anything. Necro and mesmer have gaps in their abilities since launch. Dragon Hunters gave Guardians exactly what they wanted forever, ranged dps and ways to stop people from disengaging. Only reason people are crying is because the Chrono and Reaper LOOK like they got a lot More, but neither is in anywhere near a good spot as the Guardian and probably still won’t be
usually I’ll take the bait but after everything they just showed, the Reaper is built for 1v3 or more fights. the fact you gain boon per hit and aoe chills, and boons can restore hp and aa can refill ds… plus grouping people together for the added benefit.. I mean… you should def play a different class. everything you want sounds like you really want to play Guardian. The Necro, even now in its lowly form, can Survive a decent amount of time out numbered it just won’t do any damage in the process. Now it will do both, better. Ahh Nvm

I think it’s going to be much stronger than we think. It’s attacks will deal moderate damage because it stacks might and vuln easily, plus will do more damage to chilled enemies and with thing like ice runes… it’s going to be a wrecking machine
I was truly expecting the guardian hammer but worse. Honestly the GS is slow but seeing the AA speed in death shroud honestly shocked me. I think daggers main with gs as back up is going to be Beast. I can already see this sucker is going to be a ridiculous bunker

Honestly, a lot of the ones who are negative today are the same ones that were at one point positive in the past only to be let down time after time. Over the course of this game’s history Arenanet has shown a lack of transparency of necro problems. And what do they address them with? Either nerfs or subpar buffs.

Looking cool isn’t a good trade off to what they specifically stated with be attacks that are very slow and come with long cast times/wind ups. that alone will make reaper spec all but pointless in PvP.

Honestly I think this is exactly what the necro needed. A slow juggernaut of pure power l. As long as we get pulls, chills blinds and vuln we will be good. My only request is we get tons of regeneration or protection to five to Allies, that’s it. I want necro to be selfish, and it’s offensive should literally bleed out defense somewhat similar to the guardian. Projectile deflection would be nice but chill has such great potential. It’s one of the best condis but isn’t able to be used often like others, but now it really will be a threat. have faith
No this is perfect, is we are slow so be it, as long as we can induce chill on our enemies constantly and have a pull we are absolutely fine. If our DPS is that of warrior or higher, this is so win. Its honestly exactly what we need

no way dude, elixer gun is the truth for pvp. the AA bleed and poison wrecks, especially eles. always keeps bleed and poison up and acid bomb wrecks them too. Maybe theres a better option but every build I run in wvw pvp or pve has elixer gun in it. I take that back, I usually dont run it with Static, but sometimes I do

I was really hoping we got a new mainhand weapon like axe or mace…. something that hit hard. Sword needs an AA buff bad. S3 needs to be replaced completely. It should be some kind of projectile or power hit with a reflect, similar to guardian s3.
I want to say Mesmer, and im way more excited for Chronomancer, but Guardian Medi/Lbow is going to be unreal in pvp. as for PVE I dont think theres really anything you can do to make Mesmer better than Guardian. Its going to be interesting though, the theory crafting for Chrono is amazing

Here we have a super tanky bunker that can deal extraordinary damage for its bulk, has absolutely insane mobility and is one of the only classes that has access to permanent vigor, and has single handedly rendered condi builds worthless! #balance
