since the trading post is web based, most of what you see in there is mostly controlled with javascript and a few HTML Requests here and there. it really isnt that hard to do as you think it is.

They swapped out the core browser engine and then built the newer TP on top of it.
This, combined with conscientious decision to rebuild the actual post with performance in mind, is much more extensive a task than “javascript and a few HTML requests here and there.”

Then you have testing, reworks, bug fixes. since they built on a new core there were probably modules of their old coding that didn’t work as is.

You cannot trivialize that. It could easily take as long as it did.

it is not BUILT on a new core. it is still a mere web page. please, by all means, dont talk like you are the guru of web development if you honestsly believe the webpage itself is built differently simply because its running on a different embedded browser.

Because a webpage will work hassle free on any layout engine without rebuilding.

And magically become faster simply by changing layout engines.

Okay. You win.

As a developer, you should know that assuming a system is simple from the UI and platform alone is silly.

Take this for instance:

" We were able to gain huge performance improvements by updating the game client so that the embedded browser could access things the game already knows about. There’s no reason we should have to download an icon for an in-game item from the Trading Post servers; it’s already in the game files."

We have no knowledge about how modular this system was initially. Making a change could be easy if the system initially took the fact that the location of these images might change to a local request in the future. If it didn’t, making it so becomes an incredibly tedious project.

If they used portions of their original system at all.

You cannot trivialize that. It could easily take as long as it did. Assuming otherwise would be unrealistic.

For me this change is unncessary. If anything it makes my gameplay soon worse. There’s a lot of (minor but important) things I like about current tp, and Anet is removed 90% of it. It’s clear from the screenshots alone, that certain things will be much harder to reach in the future.

The new Sell/Buy huge square buttons for instance. Bad bad bad. Sorrie, it may be good for new players but it isn’t for vets. In a split second, i can now without a doubt go from buy listing, sell listing, selling and back again. With new box, misclicking is more warranted if you want to speedclear some actions. And if that happens you gonna have to drag your mouse all to the left and right again to fix it to go to right window. This may sound as crying, but It just baffles me that something that was ‘efficient to use’ will now be ‘less efficient to use’. Taking a step back is never good, and this is going there. You should give player the option to use old trading post, or something similar. I hate the huge new sell/buy tabs.

Trade post is something, i’d like to go tru as fast as possible. New trade post UI will prevent that.

See attachment.

Sorry your poor wrist has to move the mouse a few more pixels.

sadly, its pretty much just a mere rework of the trading post, and thats it.

The only sad things are responses that cast developers who put a lot of time and effort into making features more user friendly in the light that they’ve done nothing.

2) Tactics line – GS builds barely use it in PvP, but you could change this. Leg Specialist causes 1 sec immob if you cripple a foe and has a 5 sec CD. Considering that warriors really can’t spam cripples, maybe you should reduce the CD to 1 seconds -

Thieves;
-Will get nerfed directly, and gain useless buffs to useless traits and skills.
-Will get indirectly nerfed by all the other (war excluded) classes getting small-to-big buffs.
-Nerfalicious. GG anet.

That said, I will still love my thief even with the nerfs.

I will hang this on my wall.

Those parenths made me very happy.

Lol…thieves qqing on a patch nor delivered yet….
You have pushed all zerkers outside meta for more than one year…
As long as it is the case and as long as you are meta…you deserve more nerfs.

Honnestly you will in the end deserve more nerf in initiative : regen rate lowered or more expensive skills..maybe both.

Really hope anet has understood the cancer you are for the others.

Don’t listen to this guy. only well played thieves/ thieves that find [Gift of Unaccompanied Roaming Fullzerk] are dangerous. The others are just a nuisance.

Zealot is way better than Knight is, because it has power as the main attribute. I suggest never to go for Knight.

To answer your question, OP, yes it makes a substantial difference in DPS to go with anything other than berserker. If you must make sure that the stat combo has power as the main attribute and that one of the minor attributes is either precision or ferocity (or both). Since the only two stat combos available that fit this category are Berserker and Zealot, that leaves you with just these two to use unless you want to take a much larger loss in DPS.

Some people tend to go for Soldier, but please take my word for it that it is a huge, huge mistake. It may be fine to use in WvW, but you’ll hit like a wet noodle in PvE by comparison with Berserker.

I disagree, but only with the zealot thing, because of Armored Attack. toughness / power / precision results in added power in place of borderline useless healing +.

Everything else is spot on.

I use a hybrid mix of Knight/Soldier/Zerker. with Armored Attack traited, damage is not as high as zerker, but solid enough that you can keep pushing dps when zerks would be forced to dodge or blow up.

whether this puts it on par (mostly) with zerker or not remains to be seen. It’s comfortable for me so I haven’t run tests compared to fullzerk.

I wonder if high dps intermittently (when not dodging) can be outclassed by consistent lower facetank dps.

-snip

You seem to forget that while GS offers mobility and incredible damage in PVE/WVW, it is incredibly cumbersome for combat situations compared to every other weapon in the Warrior’s kitten nal.

Nerfing the Greatsword -again- would render it an inefficient weapon for anything other than running away. After all, why use a slow, high recoil attack that deals mediocre damage when I can deal the same damage faster with anything that isn’t a mace AND get control/conditions on top of it?

GS is the king of raw damage. Why take its crown because other weapons aren’t the king of raw damage?

I am happy with “sorry guys, we could not do enough for WvW as the china release took all our resources.” (Just as an example)

What I cannot accept is: “we are all happy with WvW, it is great as it is, there is not need to do anything else than fixing a ballista bug here and adding a new trap there.”

The first is better because it corresponds with the player experience. The second is just a denial of reality.

The first tells me: ok my problem get recognized, as soon as they are able to allocate resources they will likely do something. Hey I can help them buying gems such that they can pay more developers.

The second tells: my problem is not recognized, they aren’t able to see the problems, why should I buy a gems to support them in their view of the world which isn’t mine."

The developers had a specific image in mind when they put WVW together. if they feel they attained that, then you can’t say they’re denying reality, just because their view of the ideal does not coincide with yours.

You also do not have to support them if you are displeased with the content. They are not strongarming you.

The content belongs to the devs first, and then the players. If you feel very strongly that a change should be made, push for that change with all the proof and debate you can muster. They have an avenue built specifically for listening to you regarding what needs “fixing.”

If they think its in a good place, tell them otherwise! Guardian got a buff even though it was “in a good place”.

The problems start (or, at the very least are exacerbated) when people behave like they are paying a subscription and haven’t gotten their 30-60 bucks worth of content a couple times over. Suggest and outright demand that the game evolve; but making financial threats won’t push things any faster.

If they are doing anything above nothing regarding this, they can certainly work slower.

If they -are- doing nothing, asking them to pay up with changes that are supposedly in the works is a useless demand.

There’s always slower. The devs are people too, not animals or patch-machines. You don’t kick them when they’re not doing what you want (and even that is abusive when applied to animals or such.)

Obviously there is a problem. It’s being approached poorly.

Canach feedback

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

I have thoroughly enjoyed the conversation pieces between these two, some of the best and most amusing writing I have experienced so far in GW2.

Here’s the problem, however: During The Secret of Southsun, he was presented as an anti-hero, a man doing the wrong things for the right-ish reasons. He saw himself as a hero of the refugees trapped in Consortium contracts, and I personally wished I could side with him. However a lot of lives were lost and he was of course captured.

Whilst in prison, he has been remorseful and apologetic to the max which further endeared me to him.

Now he is on Anise’s billet, he appears to have turned into an utter sociopath! I know that some of his comments are intentionally directed at Anise, to elicit some reaction and possibly information from him. But it is as if the writers thought “Hang on, players LIKE this guy! That wasn’t supposed to happen!” and have turned him into the bitterist of grapefruit in response.

I still like the guy, the wit and humour, and his voice actor is great. During the party I would have accepted his sociopathic behaviour as just him trying to troll Anise. At the summit, however, he carried on in a similar vein, even though the tone and subject matter of conversation was unjustified in that setting.

tl;dr is: why has Canach gone from remorseful anti-hero to Hannibal Lecter?

He’s acting that way to distract players from the secret, but much more potent evil that is Trahearne.

Meanwhile Taimi is trying to save the waypoints from mordrem while Phlunt is twiddling his thumbs because he doesn’t think the dragon is an issue for Rata Sum at first, and all she wants is credit for the invention she worked on so vigorously.

Exploration would be good as well. Daytime allows access to a jumping puzzle, nighttime closes it off.

could probably add another layer with weather(thunderstorms/rain)

All we can say is “buy low, sell high”.

As previously stated, it is not that easy, but part of flipping items on the market involves not leaking your profitable items.

The Gem Store: It has contaminated GW2

in Black Lion Trading Co

Azure The Heartless.3261

The black lion chests are often junk items, and the minis are often superseded by ones that are obtained by actually doing something (see: mini liadri, mini llama, mini dolyak, mini panda)

You have a point on the armor skins, but those things can easily be purchased by grinding gold and exchanging for gems, since there is no backlog for trading one currency for another; and pvp spits transmutation charges at you fairly regularly.

further, those armor items often go on sale, and the limited items come back frequently.

It isnt like there’s a stark paywall. you can obtain anything in the gem store with enough gold.

and on top of that, none of the items give users an advantage over others. (unless you call -looking cool- an advantage, but several armor sets in game do that much better than the store-only ones.)

The items there -have- to be attractive for people to even want to buy them. that being said, they don’t give competitive or in game advantages apart from glitz, and a small amount of patience lets you purchase there as well without even spending a cent.

EotM : Green is King

in WvW

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

This has probably been brought up 30 times but I didn’t see it.

It’s simple. Green side almost always wins in EotM. And it’s not even close.

Why is this? Has Anet ever acknowledged the problem? And is there a fix in the works?

?

“Green always wins”?

I’m not quite sure I follow. (or want to).

EoTM is seperated in to three teams represented by a collection of servers organized as the red, blue, and green teams.

I know this. I don’t understand what the reasoning behind them “always winning” is, though.

Terrain advantage?
Boon advantage?

anything past that is skill and coincidence.

60 man blob vs 15 outnumbered people on blue/red side . Please if you dont play eotm better dont talk cause opinions like that are useless . Green blob is huge problem and they should rebuild eotm overflow system long time ago , so it wont create another overflow when green hit players cap and other sides are barely populated.

I’m just trying to understand the problem. I play WvW more than I play EOTM, and when I -do- play EOTM I am almost always green. No snippy please.

I was not aware of new overflows being created when green hits cap (with red and blue not filled), but isn’t that the only option if new -green- players want to join a full map? They’d just have to add joining red and blue players to the previous map instance with the green cap, correct?

(If that isnt being done already, in which case it should be.)

i am also mostly wwwer but sometimes it is nice to go play brainless train without thinking . playing in eotm when you are not green just doesnt make sense . Green create 6 full maps and other sides got maybe 20 people on each map , skill doesnt matter when enemy just blob you with 3 times bigger numbers. Why they dont put people in every side doesnt matter what color your server is , just make eaqual numbers . there are no communities in eotm anyway .

How would they do that? Have players be assigned a specific team as they enter? That would create a larger imbalance, imo. Also, I’ve seen huge zergs of red and blue wipe out the green zerg before.

This. often times while I’ve been playing overgrowth (although I do not farm in EOtM when I can be doing it and gaining points for my world), we’ve been wiped out by opposing red and blue teams.

It’s hard for me to believe that green always winning is due to a design flaw; often times the horsepower to wipe green is there.

But then again, I haven’t experienced outnumbered on EOTM for a longgg long time. Last time I experienced that was when Tarnished coast was kicking our tail all over the map in the WVW tourney.

Outfits never required transmutation charges.

He’s talking about full-body sets, like the Cook or Ancestral set, that you can put on or take off as often as you like without cost/charges once you buy it.

Some of my suggestions

Azure The Heartless.3261

Anet, I’m not an employee or a dev or anything more than a player, but given the current state of the game and living world content progress, I am suggesting the following be implemented:

End game raid content. There are lots of avenues to do this, at the moment:

New Fractals of the Mist. (GW1 Has an expansive history, use more of it! Agony resistance should probably have a rework, special to sporadic or specific fractals, but if not that’s fine.) *Hell, if you fancy, include some of the old GW2 history in the fractals. Reanimate nightmare court. Drop marionette again. Toss Orr back above the waves. Drop SAB in. Toss in Mad King, if he isn’t coming back in october. Include token rewards for the content so players can grind them for gear.

Of course, you also have Dhuum, the Mursaat, the forming of the jade sea, and -many- other features to play around with here. Gw1 lore is -laden- with ideas.

New World Bosses (Wurm was a nice example of what the game could use more of. Tequatl was a nice drop. for the effort put in, they do not drop the correct tier of rewards. Implement more bosses that require organization like wurm, but make the drops worth the challenge.

Greatly improved rewards for Existing world bosses, tied to scale up in difficulty for ‘stackable’ world bosses. (Shatterer now can drop -ascendeds-, but stacking his right claw is no longer possible. Behemoth dtops Rares regularly, but players cannot stand in front of him when his portals go up. If these events fail, all players close to the boss get wiped.)

New Dungeons. Tyria is huge, we can handle going out of our way to the far reaches for some new dungeons/tokens/sets with usable stats. Examine the metrics for underplayed dungeons, find out why they are underplayed, and offer larger rewards for these dungeons. coughhonorofthewavescough.

Eliminate boss stacking. (you did it with spider queen, love to see it with shatterer.)

Every once in a while, Rework the WVW maps. Terrain changes on Server vs Server worlds will increase replay value, require re-familiarization with the map, and add another layer of planning to commanders that may be just going through the motions. just leave them long enough to not frustrate commanders with the changes.
They dont even have to be complete reworks. A little touch up to lions arch and some random battlescarring made a huge difference; carry that into WVW.

PVP Maps. Additions to the current map roulette for PVP would be beneficial for the PVP community. Regarding Skyhammer, either remove it, or alter the breakable pane behavior and greatly increase skyhammer cooldown, to prevent domination of the map by a single necro or ranger.

[Something I want personally]

violin and music contests please

Only is probably a bad word to use, because the above entails a lot of work.
there needs to be player retention though; nothing incredibly ‘grindy’, but still holding difficulty. The time limit imposed on the current world bosses is a nice touch.

All of this can be included, slowly, with the living story, if prepared alongside it or during its intermission. Wurm is a prime example of how it could be perfectly handled.

Is anyone happy anymore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

So tell me? What difference does it make?

Do you know there are entire sites devoted to hating WoW? Entire sites. There are probably more people who hate WoW than have ever played Guild Wars 2.

Reviews are well and good. Some of them mean something and some of them mean nothing. There are lots of people who don’t like chess. Probably far more people who don’t like chess than like it. Does that make chess a bad game?

Anet came out with a very specific goal. They’ve had to move the goal posts from the goal several times, mostly for people like you.

And people left this game because they did. You know the whole vertical progression gear thing? That’s anathema to this community.

But some people wanted it and left the game and complained there wasn’t enough of it. And OTHER people went and played the game and left because there was too much of it.

The people who want end game, a specific type of end game, who’ve come to this game are not going to like the game, even though the devs were quite clear that end game wasn’t going to exist here.

I’m not stressed about reviews on MMORPG.com because not everyone is going to like a game. Take a look at some of the WOW reviews sometimes.

This isn’t a site devoted to hating Guild wars2, it a site where people can share their opinions and thoughts about ANY mmorpg. And the fact that the first page is only flooded with negativity towards the game, and that the same goes for any other generalized mmorpg forum, kind of indicates the fact that maybe the unsatisfied players aren’t a small minority anymore.

This.

I just took a look at the Mmorpg forums and the only negative comment on the first page was:

“Parepin writes: They added a pay to win element to the game after saying they would never do that. Hypocrites. "

It also seems that the Community aspect of the game is the second lowest rated aspect of the game, preceded only by RP on a .1 point difference.

And it’s still 8.0.

I fail to see the growing minority of dissatisfaction or flood of negative comments.

Edit: I dug deeper and got a laugh. In one of the negatively inclined posts:

" Forums are practically fascist"

Lots of otherwise positive posts go:

" A wonderful game, just needs some raiding at the endgame… "

or:

“2800 hours into it and still enjoying =) " / "Really awesome game. Best MMO on the market right now thats for sure. "

And these are recent. during the time we didnt have a LS.
