Cowardly Warriors

There seems to be confusion over what a “draw” is.

When dueling certain elementalist builds on my warr, fights sometimes go on so long that we both agree to stop fighting.

that is a draw.

someone actively retreating from you is saying “I admit defeat, but not giving you a bag.”

Thieves do it all the time.

Actively requesting that Warriors should not be able to retreat so rapidly from a fight, with the fact that they are perpetually visible and that their WVW performance outside of silly roaming 1v1s will suffer immensely, is actually quite selfish to request now that I think about it. Especially with the majority of their resistance to snares and cc coming from the food they eat and runes they use which are non inherent features to the class.

That + only guardians have an abysmally low chance of catching = why is this a thing?

It isnt about “distance they can cover is broken”. It is “distance they can cover is incredibly effective in this one situation where I am playing the game 1v1 even though the map is geared for large scale fights, and because of that I cannot kill them.”

GS escapes will rarely work in 1v2s, 1vX, PVP, or any other type of battle scenario where there is more attention to cc.

Looks to me like Hambow or condi builds still run as you say accepting what the nerf does. If you did not like being pidgeon-holed into Hambow or condi & liked to craft something else (admittedly not as optimal as the metas), but relied on use of burst skills & adren those are basically gone (IMO). You could go with a bland build avoiding anything adren related, but to me that takes the whole fun out of Warrior… Actually the feature patch adren changes took the whole fun out of warrior for me, in truth.

My current new “build” is playing other characters with my warrior indefinitely retired, or in r/p crippled and in seclusion pending possible eventual? recovery from some great wound (probably some sort of backstab :P). I’ve been rotating through guardian & necro mainly lately with some engi here and there, loved the warrior concept so not really happy to settle with one but there you have it, when I’m not doing something else outside of gw2.

>Ignore core class mechanic to not play the same setup that everyone was complaining about.

Zhaitan could’ve been better, but I wouldn’t call it bad.

Is it possible I was so pumped from the music and everything leading up to the encounter that it drowned out disappointment.

thats called being anti climactic, and i dont think anyone can say it was good, theres nothing good about it, the world is subjective, but i dont think there has been a more underwelming ending boss fight i can remember in my entire history of playing games.

It was good in the sense that it was well made.

In terms of causing me to feel excitement or what not, the Shadow of the Dragon did that many times better.

Hopefully they decide to rev Zhaitan with a retconn in the future. Or have Teq powersteal and become the next elder undeaddrgn idk

Adrenaline has been BUTCHERED!

in Warrior

Azure The Heartless.3261

warr has just been spoilt with 100% adr all the time without needing to spend a single utility or trait slot. now you need to devote some part of your build to adr generation.

this is still a far better position than e.g. Eles, who need to devote 4 trait points to both water and arcane plus 1-3 utility slots just to make use of their class mechanic and survive.

Most sane warriors already do this. the problem is they’re being punished for it with the almost instant decay the moment they’re out of combat.

If you paid attention to the SoR change you would see that warrs passively gen adrenaline a bit faster now by just slotting it.

None of that matters when your fight is over and your full bars of adren are gone in 10 seconds.

Tell me more about how Elementalists being pseudo-tanks with heavy might stacks is a worse position though.

Does anyone know what the average time is for gaining 1 bar of adrenaline? What it do people think it should be? … I’m not hearing this information anywhere. It seems quite pertinent to the topic.

Depends on traits, how much you crit, whether you hit at all, burn your heal, etc.. it can be anywhere from “fast-as-balls-” to " ~5 seconds."

We have lots of neatly spread out options for adrenaline gain. the problem is that those traits become useless when we are placed in intermittent combat positions. I’m fine with the drain on miss, that makes warrs think a bit more. Now, we’re exposed to fight resets.

the “instant decay” feature was just added to force warriors to spend adrenaline that might now be compelled to hoard it due to the “you miss, you reset” feature added into a combat situation that prides itself on no hits being guaranteed vs. an opponent that does not want to let them happen.

Not that warriors -won’t- hoard now though. It’s just an all around handicap for warriors that find themselves in an intermittent noncombat situation with low health and lower adrenaline, or players that have to rely on their bursts for significant damage because they run wet-noodle bunker.

instead of simply nerfing the cc Hammer had, which was the overall issue when combined with longbow, or even just the flat damage of the hammer, Anet instead crippled the core class mechanic for the entire profession, affecting the majority of warriors who used it as a primary source of damage.

It was an overreaction to a very specific problem, really. they didn’t want evisc spam, but they didn’t want hoarding either, so wars got shoehorned into a “kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you dont” situation.

I’m inclined to agree with Serbent on this.

While I remember you saying that you had an 80 of every class, Guardians do not have their forte in solo roaming. It was stated, quite well someplace else, that "When you see a guardian solo roaming, you know one of two things is going to happen:

  • You will kill him because he cannot escape
  • You will do nothing to him but not die because he cannot chase you.
    "

Guardians are not traited for running after -any- class, much less warriors. Expecting otherwise is, dare I say, a tiny bit of a stretch.

And almost a bit of an insult. Someone with a main in every class laments the impossibility of catching a warrior, a class that has agility as one of its strong suits, on a guardian, a class that features being an immovable wall that pumps out buffs?
Walls don’t have legs, bro.

I’d love to hear difficulty with catching Warriors on any other class though.

Fear and massive condi is OP atm.

Stability

The survivability is huge,

Not quite, IMO. Still a light class that moves like it has molasses stuck to their boots.

Necro is BY FAR the best 2 v 2 class in small scrimmages (also 3v3). It is the only class you can’t deal with with for a short period of 2 v 1 and it’s the class that 1 shots you if you don’t have all your cd’s.

Yes on condi bombs on 2v1 being a pain in the kitten , but hardly one shot, hardly by far the best 2v2 class. That goes to guardians.

I have 7500 pvp games on warrior 4000 hours + pvp, and always been able to deal with them. But the passive proc build is just too much now. The build is too perfect.

See necro, build for fear cancel/ stability. you surely have the means for it.

The full focus needs to be on a necro now in order to win a fight, and the survivibility is absurd, still.

I agree with the first part of this if only to avoid condibombs.

I will add, that many necros play bad, just like warriors thieves etc, and beating them 1 v 1 can is doable – but it’s like that with all classes.

You can agree and disagree with me, but there is so much that is op with this spec. You can’t dodge while feared either is 5 CC’s with huge dmg.. Im frustrated and angry, maybe that’s why I didn’t take the time to do a better post. I know a lot of good necros, and I am not trying to nerf them to the ground, it’s just too op right now.

thanks.

What do you do when a Warrior uses volley? A single dodge doesn’t block the whole channel and volley only does about 10% less damage than rapid fire.

If it legitimately needs to be nerfed, focus your attention on things like Signet of the Wild which is a legitimate complaint with this update.

maybe it doesn’t need to be nerfed, IDK. Im personally not haing a problem with it because I play thief and they still kitten on rangers. I would just rather see a ch

I just thought that since everybody was crying about it, it will inevitably get nerfed, so I thought this would be a fair way to do it. Offers more counter-play while allowing the to keep their highest damage potential.

I don’t think it will get nerfed, aNet gets complaints like this every time they do a balance change. It’s sure as rain, and just as meaningless.

I cant think of anything that has gotten this much QQ and not bee nerfed to the ground. Thieves, warriors, dhummfire, crit damage in general, etc. Things get nerfed based on community reaction rather than reason.

+ 1 Reasonable statement.

Anything that kills the community that has yet to have its general skill level questioned is OP, no matter what.

erm no go look and watch some Balancing Videos about the term for gameplay (overpowered)/(inbalanced) i would say less than 2% of the community have problems with this change and a Select few are here on the fourms.)

This change specifically?

Iunno about that.

My point was that people will whine about anything they cannot beat without attempting to improve their playstyle first, though. in case you missed it.

The latter part was sarcasm.

GS #3 and #5 need to be nerfed too. Warriors shouldn’t run away from battle, what kind of nonsense is that.

In fact, just replace warrior class with sandbag. That’s all we want. We want a perpetually visible target to soak up all our damage without being able to hit back.

Agreed, i don’t mind the loss of adrenaline on miss, but this decay is a joke, anyone can just reset the fight and you are left with 0 adrenaline, the old system must be brought back.

I should not have to fight thieves that will listen for my verbal “Adrenaline full!” cues, immediately stealth, reset me, then come right back in. I dont get to reveal stealthed classes by hitting them, why should they be able to toy around with my core mechanic ?

I was fine with adrenaline bursts depleting adrenaline. We were already at the mercy of any class that had a stealth, who thought it was a good idea to nudge us further toward free loot bags?

And the community says anet doesn’t listen to them. Cute.

I can barely be bothered to care though. If it isnt “warriors with X are OP” its “Warriors with Y are OP.”

I suspect someone accidentally attributed 50% to arcing slice bonus and 100% to Adren decay when it should have been the other way around.

I don’t play a warrior but if I may ask, how long DOES it take you all now to lose 3 bars of adrenaline after exiting combat?

After leaving combat, after building the adrenaline to full-

you lose about one bar every two seconds.

you have four seconds to get to another target and hopefully land a stage 1 burst on them.

needless to say this makes thief fighting hell.

The Critical Flaw in your Thesis is that Warriors already have Sustain.

It is called “Heavy Armor + High HP”, oh and condition clear out the ying-yang.

Before you pull the usual Stunt of “HP/Armor doesn’t matter!” go play a Thief or Elementalist or… any other class really. Armor and HP does matter and it matters a lot.

Warriors are able to soak almost twice as much damage as your ‘average’ class, and that is before healing Signet. Yeah, yeah Evasion is important. But eventually you get hit. If you play a squishy class you’ll start to notice just how much more they get punished for a misplay.

And Warriors aren’t supposed to be the Sustain/Attrition class, that is Necros.

Then again Warriors weren’t supposed to be the melee burst class, that was supposed to be Thieves.

Man, it is almost like Warriors had way too many advantages for way too long.

Goodness, so snippy.

Perhaps I did not get my point across.

My point was yes, warriors have sustain. It is not tied to their armor class, though. Guardian has a comparatively small HP pool and sustains much better than Warrior.

Signet and condi clear are the only sustaining aspects of warriors. once those are exhausted, free warrior melt. The high HP pool is there because they have very little damage mitigation capabilities besides, once their utilities are on CD, unless they are under EP.

their sustain and melee burst are necessary for them to be effective though, compared with the two classes you noted as being “the” most suited classes for sustain/melee burst. They are not advantages. Before HS was buffed, warriors were loot bags.

Remember how there’s no holy trinity? Just because X is the feature of one class does not mean other classes cannot do it just as well.

The Gem Store: It has contaminated GW2

in Black Lion Trading Co

Azure The Heartless.3261

So… what in the gem store is necessary in order to play the game?

If you have issues with BLCs simply throw them away when you get them. It is not really that hard. I also seem to recall them lowering the drop rate quite a bit, so it should be even less of an issue nowadays.

I have gotten plenty of rewards in-game, while none in the gem-store. But I suppose that is all a matter of opinion. In my eyes, getting something for doing something is a reward. Simply buying something is not.

I get that you dislike the gemstore (you have been complaining about it since before release I seem to recall) but you are making it more of an issue than it actually is. It is fully possible to experience and enjoy the game and completely ignore the gem-store. But you prefer to see the gem-store in everything and thus it creates and issue for you.

And the fact remains. Without the gem-store we would most likely have much of a game left to play now. At least we doesn’t (as of yet) have pure OP and/or gamechanging things in the store, as we had in GW1.

Than trie to play a new account (new player) with only 1 bankslot and the normal 5 bagslots and you will understand very fast how annoying it is. How you need in this game more space but you can´t afford it anymore as a new player just from gold and you have to use creditcard. Its Pay to win – even when whiteknights in this forum still bring same kitten over and over : “So… what in the gem store is necessary in order to play the game?”

There’s a difference between defending a point with a valid reason and whiteknighting.

12 slot steel boxes cost 58 silver on the marketplace. you can actually -craft- slot boxes in game.

There is no “pay us or you will not have bag slots”.

You can easily make 58 silver, or work Armorsmithing for a little while and make all the boxes you want.

Even the bag slots are obtainable if you are willing to work for a couple minutes for the gold.

Misconceptions regarding Level gating.

I am having a very hard time believing that “entertaining cows” was the proper solution for players that found “pick up food, give to cow” confusing.

As regards the more important level gating, revamped introduction of the downed state, and the other changes made to enhance the feeling of progression, I’m incredibly surprised that the testing revealed so many aspects of the game that were confusing for new players.

Almost flabbergasted . Is guild wars 2 so innovative that even the cow feeding is-

Anyway-

Hopefully, once this is settled, it will provide ample incentive for alt creation, or at least not make it more tedious for players looking to entertain themselves while waiting for level 80 content.

I’m watching. Don’t forget about us after things are all said and done.

A Painful reminder of gw1

in Warrior

Azure The Heartless.3261

Now before I start this I just need to clarify a few points.
#1. My main is a warrior
#2. Roamed in wvw with no problems before and after patch.
#3. I don’t really do much pve any more
#4. I am a big guild wars fan
#5. I don’t zerg

Now in guild wars 1 I detested the warrior, couldn’t get use to it, played gw1 for 5 yrs
Rolled a derv and absolutely loved every moment of it.
But friends of mine played warriors ND well , yeah that’s where the anet warrior hate started. Nerf after Nerf hit the warrior ND when I quit playing gw1 about 7 months before gw2 was released there was no point in warrior. Try to get a party.(pve).

Dnt get me wrong, warrior still works fine in gw2. Atleast it does for me. But then I play my warrior ND I know what class’ I’m going to have trouble facing. I can’t spec for every encounter I get. But I, after reading through quite a few of the pages, am starting to get a feeling that anet wants ppl to rather role guardians if they want to play melee….. Well no chance of that for me personality. Was the longest 80lvls of my life leveling that thing.

But here is the question, am I the only feeling that they are trying to make the class more “look, a pve noob, cause he/she roles a warrior”?

Regards
Dark

>Cannot dodge
>Gets hit at close range for ridiculous amounts of damage
>“Warrior players are noobs”
>GW2

On topic:

yes and no. Anet looks like they’re trying to find that medium where other class players will accept warrior as taking skill to play effectively.
The problem is that medium doesnt exist short of turning them into (free) (sand)bags.

Dude, the guy I was responding to on the bit you quoted from me specifically said the changes to adrenaline nerfed the “cowardly” warrior. I’m saying the changes to adrenaline have no connection to the issue the OP is bringing up.

You’re not in the conversation you think you’re in.

The QQ about this has been hilarious. Literally you have 1 thing to watch for from a power ranger at range. Dodge it.

Or block it. Quite a few block skills require the enemy to be close for their counterattack, otherwise they’re a 3-4 second block, meaning YOU TAKE NO DAMAGE.

This plus missile reflect = hilarity ensues.

Try it. you’ll love it.

Again, he isnt talking about mere mobility. He’s talking about ridiculous gtfo-mobility coupled with apparently heavy condi mitigation.

While the changes to adrenaline definitely affect the value of Cleansing Ire (for condi removal), warriors on the run aren’t really in a position to use it since (1) you need to hit a target to get the cleanse, unless you’re using longbow, (2) if you’re losing longbow, you’re not hard to catch, and (3) if you hit a target when trying to escape you only prolong the slow down for being in combat.

There were no adrenaline benefits for warriors escaping combat, except the very small leap some would get using hammer or axe, which aren’t running weapons. The changes to adrenaline make it less likely you’ll make any burst, whether in combat or out (and bursts aren’t useful for running).

Not ire.

Melandru.

Lemon soup.

shake it off.

Dolyak, balanced stance

yknow. the auto things that you can just press to be immune to crowd control.

Although I probably brought the wrong idea to you by saying condi mitigation.

Let me rephrase. Mobility isn’t the issue.

mobility while ignoring fear, knockback, knockdown, immob, cripple, chill, or daze is, to the OP. Condi Clear addresses most of the things that last more than a second (fear, daze) and stances / shake it off address knockdown, so I have a bad habit of lumping them together.

To me, it isn’t an issue, let me note that. If you want to spec to ignore every last condition or crowd control applied to you for the sole purpose of running, go nuts. This appears to be a pebble in OP’s shoe though, because warriors pick fights with him, see they can’t win, and then retreat immediately, but he can’t catch them because his snags wont work on them, and he only has a couple of seconds to do so before they put 3000 distance between themselves and him.

Understandably infuriating. Can’t do anything about it without hurting the warriors that don’t do that, though.

I’d think of it like a shark attack and let it go. If you live, you win. you just don’t..yknow, get its head to mount on a wall or anything.
