Kill shot comes in one big spike, rapid fire is a slow spike that warns you and only punishes you if you neglect it completely… Like people in that video. i play ranger but don’t use longbow, but have in the past. Nothing there that couldn’t have been done before patch against people in glass armour that don’t react at all…

Counter scenario. You are 25% on endurance. Less than one RF’s worth of HP. Old RF: you’d be able to dodge part of it. New RF: you eat all of it before you can dodge again (and down).

I have no problem with this as a mechanic alone. for the purpose of a greater argument though, I have taken issue with it when used in tandem with camping by rangers.

lol thats a very very specific scenario… I guess you use block, evade, reflect, stun, cc or any other myriad of abilities.

But really the scenario is more typically… start being hit by rf… before patch…. “dodge and miss 50% damage”, where post patch its “dodge and miss 90% of damage”.

If you can dodge; if not then it’s the inverse. ;3 Blocks would work in that scenario, though; yes.

Meanwhile the ranger has not moved from his perch~

Gw2 coming on Wiiu?

i wasnt focusing on “wiiU” cuz ps4 is the best graphic card that it has now, and the best ongoing console, so there is still possiblty to play Gw2 on a console you smarty, also the limit of Graphic is 8000k HD now tell me how “impossible” ps4 can run that game, Plus if ykno destiny, It’s just like Gw2 and yes you can choose your skills, guns ~ now think of at it as gw? Swords, Pistol, Rifles, Whatever , Gw2 have to change it style onl in which case u can play with the other style guys on PC You absolutely make no sense to me… now let’s call Destiny an MMO game

Sorry to inform you destiny runs at 30fps on your “next-gen” console.

This is a $400 PC part list.

I would like to mention that the PS4 has a GPU that is comparable to a HD 7870, which is actually Mid Tier and not top of the line as you might think.

Reduce Warrior "Mobility" WvW imbalance

in Warrior

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Why do Warrior’s get enough mobility skills so it’s impossible to catch them when my Ranger has ONE leap skill on her GS with a cooldown?

Basically a Warrior can out-run ANY profession without issues because they have far too many leap/rush abilities.

There is a sollution that needs to be implemented to balance this, which is to introduce DR (Deminishing Returns) on their abilities. So if they leap or rush, the next similar ability will not leap/rush if used within 30seconds of the first ability.

Alternatively, if this is too difficult to implement, simply make all these abilities share the same cooldown when triggered, thus preventing these skills being used back to back.

Not only will this help balance Warrior’s in WvW, but PvE also, preventing them from “cheating” their way past tons of mobs in dungeons etc.

New player?

Are you actually complaining about leaps on warrior? There’s 2 in total. One on sword that’s 600 range on 8 sec, and one’s on 25 seconds on GS. Meanwhile you have a longbow with 1500 range specced with traits, that hugely out-distances any skill that warriors can equip.

dang. I thought the leap was 900. in that case, swoop outpaces Leap. 1100 distance on 12s vs 8s on 600?

one leap, one swoop = ranger in lead, 12s cd, warr behind, 8sc cooldown.

in 8 seconds warr ahead by 200, but in 4s Ranger outpaces.

Thieves and mesmers also cannot unload significant damage every 8 seconds at a great distance from that range without significant forethought/tactical thinking, which is the focus of my argument.

Neither can Rangers. You have to wait 48+ seconds for the CDs to recharge that allow you to unload significant damage via Rapid Fire.

A full zerk ranger’s rapid fire is significant damage. We can discuss buffing that even more with Signet of the wild another time, but let’s keep this on level ground first.

Actualy this kind of thing helps in tactical play and reduce the number of brainless fight in pvp area. Ive started to see rangers perching on rooftops in pvp and longbow sniping people from where it is very hard to hit them back. I must applaud on the tactical ingeniosity altrought the fact a guy can just hammer me for that much damage from a location strait in face of a control point in sky hammer where i cant in theory reach him witheout doing a long jump puzzle actualy anoys me (note that once im dead he can at any time just jump down of his perch and cap back the point again)

Totally not stand still, hit button faceroll.

Totally takes more brains to play than the previously nerfed stuff.

I love this so much guys, you don’t even know.

being in your face, hitting you with short range skills, actively following you to try to down you = OP, pls nerf

camping on ledge and burst damage whenever skill off cooldown = Nah its cool

Well previously most team dedicated someone to be a roamer. Now that roamer can deal with the LB ranger. And trust me, unless you wave your hands and jump towards the range from the front, you will be able to deal with him. For ranger to deal really high damage he needs to be made of tissue paper. A sneeze is enough to down him. Rapid fire seems op in itself, but if you look at what it costs to be able to deal that type of damage, I think a LOT of survivability has to be sacrified in the process. So I don’t think its OP. Is it annoying? Yes. OP? No.

A tissue paper ranger camping on a ledge that requires significant effort to get to, armed with a push no less, is no different from a tank ranger in terms of how fragile he is, because you cannot hit him if you are not a ranged character.

So you’re saying that people can’t deal with zerker shatter memsers in pvp? Because if they can, they can deal with rangers as well. Thieves and mesmers have ways to port to locations others cannot get to quickly. Other profs have options to buy themselves time with invulnerability or reflect. In that time they can finish off who they are fighting, or can go after the ranger. A lonbgow ranger on a ledge far away poses a new choice most people don’t seem to be happy with. It brings a change in what happened before, but I don’t think its the end of the world. If people can find out when they will get a backstab (which good players can), then they will be able to blind the ranger when he uses PBS as well. I fought a necro today in wvw who blinded me on 2-3 PBSs in a row. Either he was very, very, lucky (but what are the odds really) or he knew how to fight me. I think that on similar player skill thief>LB ranger, shatter mesmer>LB ranger. So what seems to be the problem here? All LB ranger has in its favor in the “oh so terrible circumstances” you visualize is position. Take that away and he is nothing.

Thieves and mesmers also cannot unload significant damage every 8 seconds at a great distance from that range without significant forethought/tactical thinking, which is the focus of my argument.

I am not arguing that Ranger is ‘too strong’ or that buying time is broken. I am arguing that the skill floor for Ranger has been significantly lowered to “perch here, press 2”, and that such a passive means of combat is too heavily rewarded, and that the community that largely decried certain classes having a low skill floor before are now magically silent.

As for rangers being nothing without “perch here, press 2” I’d like to retort with:

Kill shot comes in one big spike, rapid fire is a slow spike that warns you and only punishes you if you neglect it completely… Like people in that video. i play ranger but don’t use longbow, but have in the past. Nothing there that couldn’t have been done before patch against people in glass armour that don’t react at all…

I think ANet had, and then threw away, the perfect opportunity to please (almost) everyone with the Fervid Censer/Desert Rose skins. The Fervid Censer was exclusive, and the Desert Rose wasn’t. Both were equally cool, so people who were at the event had a special reward, but everyone still got the chance for the same type of skin.

The same with The Fiery Dragon Sword, and Jormag’s Breath. Both equally cool, one is exclusive, one isn’t. Everyone is rewarded.

I’m hoping that if and when they rerelease the Mad Memoires (and to a lesser extent the Ghastly shield) they change the flame/grin colour. I do think everyone should be able to get something of equal quality in the same style, but that the game sorely needs rewards for loyalty/skill/persistence etc. This is why the SAB skins were so good. Anyone can get the blue version, which means no one loses out, but the green and yellow versions have a sense of “been there done that”.

I’m fine with this ^ . If the halloween skins have been modified to maintain the older versions for the players that attended the event, that would be acceptable.

Don’t you also have knockdowns, roots, knockbacks, fears, and other cc right at your fingertips, while [swoop] outranges savage leap by 200, and is under [rush] by 100?

All you need to do is keep LB in range, yes?

isn’t your swoop also on a 12 second cooldown, which is almost twice as quick as a warrior’s untraited rush?

Tl;DR Rangers have a myriad of skills to catch warriors, and if you’re fighting a Sword/GS warrior you should be tipped off from the get go that theyll try to run and lock them down before they start.

If you are not fighting a GS/Sword warrior then [Swoop] is enough to pursue.

if you want to talk about cheating past mobs we can talk about your hunter shot, but as for WvW “imbalance”, I would like to say this is a L2P issue if you have no retort as to why you cannot use your skills to keep up with a warr specced for mobility.

Wrong.

It’s just cool to see once in a while. This game is glowstick enough as it is with threads asking for easier mapping, mats, etc, etc. For every reward in this game there seems to a thread of QQ wanting the same reward for free. Festival rewards should be exclusive, or at the lease ridiculously expensive.

If you are not at that festival you should miss out. Thats the whole point. Always has been.

While I do not agree that an item should be flat unobtainable for missing a specific event, I do agree that a ridiculous alternate means of getting said item should exist, notwithstanding outrageous BL prices.

I want that skin SO BAD but I’m glad it’s so rare and unattainable. Much like the festivals in GW1…you were there and had a chance to get it or you weren’t. I wasn’t.

Don’t cheapen it Anet. Release a variant maybe but I’d hate to see yet another reward cheapened by a festival and gifted to the masses in hind-sight a year or two later.

Why the hell not?!

Exclusivity is serious business, especially when all it required was you being in a specific place at a specific time.

Thief hate, it’s all just human psychology.

A mesmer can down you from full health with one combo. Engi doesn’t even need to use wep skill to down a squishie. Guard gs 5,4 + 2 and few people are downed. The currently hated rapid fire can down you from full HP as well.

Most skills/combos show up in combat log as a bunch of small hits.

Killshot/evis that hit hard as a single skill are not as hated as backstab. You can see them, you can react to the actual attacks. It gives the target hope that he might be able to avoid those attacks. All his utitlies on cd, endurance low, HP low but still he can see the attack coming and try to avoid it.

Then there is backstab.

It’s the opposite of all the above.

Unseen, high damaging attack delivered into the target’s back. It’s creepy and feeds people’s paranoia.

A thief stealths up, you don’t know if he ran away, he could be harvesting a nearby node (I sometimes do while SR is up and that zerg failed to aoe bomb my SR. I don’t waste time). If I do that when fighting someone just as my stealth is about to wear off, ooooo that rage when they see me mining bronze ore while they try their best to kill me.

I stealth up. All that goes through my target’s mind is the backstab. I can tell from how widly he keeps turning around that he can feel my breath on his back. I can deliver my attack now or just wait a little longer or even CnD again.

It’s up to me to prolong the uncertainty.

Backstabbing someone is a play of no honour, of course thieves deserve to be hated.

This is exactly why I respect thieves.

I’d say being extremely sour at repeated requests to “take the map out” when significant effort has gone into modeling, coding, and building all of the assets would be a good, if not spiteful, reason.

What is wrong with figuring out that what you want is not in this game, but there are other games that have exactly what you want?

Maybe people like an aspect of a game, but not the game itself, and want to add features from the game they hate to a game with a core they love.

That isn’t bad at all.

But it is a bit self-centered and selfish with no regard for the existing player base. Expecting ground breaking suggestions to be accepted with open arms just reinforces how self-centered their entire approach likely is.

I can see how a demand would be that way, but not a suggestion. A suggestion is placed on the forums for the explicit purpose of gaining community feedback and potentially a developer’s eye, is it not?

Who says a bunker build can’t kill ? do you even play the game ?

the fact that he assumed anything about your build from you saying “learn to counter it” should give you insight into your question.

Looks like his shot in the dark hit though. zing.

At any rate, here’s the generally implied argument.

I don’t want to have to learn to counter it. No class should be able to significantly inconvenience me from any range by pressing a button. Rangers should not be able to faceroll their keyboard from a distance every 8 seconds-

etc.

Honestly though, I’m not too incapacitated by the recent patch, but it is becoming very apparent that a power shift was desired by the community rather than power balance, otherwise there would be more people realizing this is even ‘easier’ than managing rotations at melee range for that sweet, sweet eviscerate people loved to hate.

while I agree that rangers sorely needed a buff, this one doesn’t seem to force Rangers to think.

ok then so i shouldn’t learn to counter Melee by using My CC’s/KB correctly then.
this problem is Solely for those Full glass Cliff huggers.

At what point does “melee guy close (opt: near edge), press 4; if 4 is on its meager 15 sec cooldown press 0” require significant tactical prowess?

No rudeness meant, honest question. It appears skill is praised heavily over “facerolling” nowadays.

Also: ‘full glass cliff huggers’ are still Rangers; they have not metamorphosed into some entity that in some way makes this not a Ranger prob.

PS: Let’s not forget the “my pushback didn’t work, press 3 and run”

Of course, this is entirely a PVP argument. I’m glad they’re viable in PVE. But, that being said, I never thought they weren’t viable in PVE, so that has no real bearing on me at this time.

That said, midnight ice, midnight fire, and pitch are decent replacements and other players will hardly notice the difference. If its hard to decide, keep it stored in your bank for later. I don’t think this dye will decrease in value.

This. for my armor, midnight ice is actually DARKER than the abyss and lacks the blue hue that it gets when applied to metallic armor.

How tough is tough?

in Warrior

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

It is possible to get close to 1500 heal per second but not worth it.

Its possible to get about 1000 hp a second, but it requires sacrificing all of your damage and toughness. essentially, you’d be a trophy warrior. not really useful for anything but WOW look at that HP go!

you’d probably be better off with an elementalist or Guardian if you are looking for survivability. Warriors just get jumped on as being “good at everything” because they can spec to be good at things that are normally the foundation of one class, at the cost of their other specs.

In reality though, we heal about 380hp per second, with no protection against down except our dodges and blocks (and healing shouts, at the cost of power.), and we lack blinks, blinds, and stealths; so once someone targets you, you are going to be absorbing 100% of what they throw at you unless you interrupt them/ block, which isnt good for even Warr’s Health Pool.

warriors can spec tanky to solo, but it will cost you maddening amounts of time as your damage will suffer, especially with the recent GS nerf.

well if thats the case , I’d rather not Lower the Skill Floor anymore so anyone and everyone can Avoid a Burst when ever they wanted , if that happened No one Would ever Die.

This is the only point I am making.

The problem is why it had to start with Rangers.

i did say Anyone and Everyone , its back to what other people have said its apple and oranges

Fighting a Ranged Style is 100% different to that of a Melee type, your weakness is staying at Range, Ours is being in Combat, If set up to play that one Build style.

Yin and Yan you can’t do much about a Core Weakness against Close range Melee.

I understand precisely what you are saying. I cannot shake the feeling that being perched on a difficult ledge to access, doling out heavy damage at a moderately frequent rate, and being able to push back/ stealth yourself when anybody approaches seems to be accepted as requiring more tactical prowess than actively being in someone’s face and managing rotations to be moderately effective. Not even the same amount of tactical prowess, mind you.

Don’t take it personally (not saying you are, but for anyone who is, do not.) My argument is more about a class being stripped of its core mechanic due to it being effective, while another class has its core mechanic bolstered to being pretty effective, and having the groups that comment on these changes loudly decry one but resent decrying the other.

Are we balancing for skill or for the lowest common denominator?? When facing a competent opponent the play/counterplay is significantly more complex then the whole “I stand still and pew pew”.

I don’t know. That’s the whole problem. it seemed like the latter was the case up until the Ranger patch.

RF is essentially former eviscerate spam.

It was too hard for players to counter evisc, why should they be expected to counter a long range burst that can be used every 8 seconds, whether or not they have filled a meter?

No, adrenaline and burst skills were normalized by putting the skill on it’s full cooldown regardless of whether it lands or was missed, just like every other burst mechanic in the game.

You’re comparing apples to oranges with extreme bias, and imo people are wasting their time debating balance with you.

you seem to be misunderstanding the simplicity of my argument.

Nothing has changed for skill cooldown, regarding warriors. The difficulty of landing the skill has simply been increased a couple of times. My argument is merely “if evading a close range spike (tells notwithstanding) every 7 seconds was too difficult for players, why would it be expected that a long range spike every 8 seconds would be completely tolerable?”

I am not placing focus on mechanics here. obviously the skills both have very different prerequisites, but the majority of complaints focused on evisc was how quickly and how heavily it hit, with very little concern given to how much time it took to fill the adren bar.

New player, couple of questions

in Players Helping Players

Azure The Heartless.3261

Hey all, new to the Guild Wars world and had some questions. My primary focus will be PvP, but I am not averse to PvE. Assuming there is an overarching storyline throughout the game I would like to complete it.

Classes:

My preferred playstyle is to be a bruiser. I want to be able to initiate fights and soak up damage while still being able to dish some out. Is a guardian capable of this?

Quest/Level:

In terms of leveling, what is my best option? Is the personal story like a “campaign” series that guides my path to max level? Is there a main campaign questline that spans the game similar to Aion and Skyrim or is the questing structure more like WoW’s? Is WvW a viable leveling option? In previous games my focus has been maximizing my leveling time while still trying to enjoy it. Not a huge fan of aimlessly grinding or repeating quests more than a handful of times.

Having said that, is crafting/gathering something I should worry about? In previous games I would outlevel a zone before my gathering was ready to advance. Will I encounter a similar issue here?

Is WvW the only time my server matters?

Thank you for taking the time to read all of this and I appreciate any and all feedback!

Warrior fits your playstyle. Guardian is focused on synergy more than bruising, although they can be specced for the latter.

PVP situations have their own XP bars, but in pve you get lots of experience for dungeons, crafting, mining, exploration, etc. you dont have to repeat anything. I don’t think there are any quests that occur more than once that are not boss fights, events, and there are plenty of those, so your leveling experience should not be boring at all.

you wont encounter gathering issues. gathering is done on the fly with appropriate tools that you get from vendors, and you do not need to level gathering. Crafting is a little complicated, but there are easy guides on the internet to get you started/finished.

your serrverrrrrr matters almost insignificantly in pve. based on how well your server is laying the smackdown in wvw, you get very very tiny boosts to all stats in pve. it resets every (two? one?) week(s) and is frankly unnoticeable, so to be frank; yes.

welcome to GW2, and have fun.

I think that its trollish and demeaning for a player to join an up-and-running game, play it, and then berate it for why it isnt like [insert x game here], like the developers have made this game as a commission for said player and have done a poor job capturing the player’s dream.

:“This isn’t the game for you” is a wake-up call that lets players know that while suggestions for enhancement are fine, berating a game for not bending to their whims is silly.

there are people that use that reasoning to berate and shut down suggestions though. Even if they’re frequently made suggestions, if they are done politely you shouldn’t be suggesting the person pretty much leave, though.

Sadly many people who like to defend any element of the game seem to mainly have some hatred to those other games.. or well.. WoW and seem to see every change as a move in the direction of WoW (see the many mount discussion, many nonsense reasons are made up why not to add them but in the end it turns out they simply don’t like it because WoW) so any change that would mean something would be added that is similar as in WoW is being attacked by “Maybe GW2 is not your game.”

Asking for something that might also be in another MMO does not mean asking to change the game into that game.

There’s a specific situation where that attack would be valid. making a polite suggestion at all would not qualify your opinion to be bombarded.

Only time it would make sense is if some hardhead decides “I’m quitting, this isnt like WoW at all!” and then expects sympathy.

You’ll get no sympathy from m-

I do wish people would read threads on “why is X probably not in the game” before suggesting it multiple times though.

Mounts for example. Anet is culling minis right now. with the environment so detailed, any world bosses with mounted players charging headlong at it would slow the game to a sickening crawl, most likely.

Now, it’s a bit annoying when someone chooses to ignore this and asks for mounts anyway, but asking them to leave is waayyyy too far.

But is that really the reason. And even if thats a problem should that problem not be solved in stead of seeing that as a reason? Other MMO’s don’t seem to have a big problem with that.

Thats what I mean. This is not a reason, more an excuse. Colin himself talked about mounts and how they could be implemented. (like mounted combat).

However some people react as if it’s not it would be against the core of the game. What is total nonsense and by saying that so much the them self are the ones that try and define a new ‘core’ of what GW2 should be. They are trying to change what GW is.

regarding mounts? If Colin talked about mounts, then it isnt against the core of the game.

to me, it just seems like it would be kind of pointless/inconvenient as a travel device, given the proximity of waypoints, the vast scales of world bosses, and the like.

Far be it from me to tell you to go play a game with mounts though. And you’re free to suggest it again here.

What is wrong with figuring out that what you want is not in this game, but there are other games that have exactly what you want?

Maybe people like an aspect of a game, but not the game itself, and want to add features from the game they hate to a game with a core they love.

That isn’t bad at all.

no it was too hard to dodge , Two Warroir Machanics two f1’s in a Row , first misses , swap activate second, there is no Compair to this.

the reason people couldn’t dodge Evis was because they were drained by the time the warroir did his Second f1 in a Row.

ps Zerk vs Zerk who will win , Range or Melee .
well obviously Range because that is also a Weakness for playing FULL Melee!

I agree with the bolded part, but not the ital part.

while I was talking about evisc spam without desperation swapping, you are correct on the point you made there.

As for zerk/zerk range vs, melee, I made no mention as to type of gear. People had problems with all kinds of burst spam. My comparison was based on the fact that warriors, who had a high-damage skill that could be used either up close with a huge tell or far away with a huge tell, also had at least 7 seconds before they could use it again, give or take the time it took to build adrenaline. Yet, it was considered faceroll easy by many.

Rangers have a similar situation now, – the added minor caveat of building the bar first. Why should it -not- be considered faceroll easy?

Press button for massive damage > use utils, get in combat, build a meter, put your trait functionality on cooldown for massive damage?

Gonna argue this point ‘not actual pvp’ isn’t right.

It’s for enjoyment, with some rewards on the side.

Side hoppers are Oh-so-serious types that should be forced into solo-q with their ilk, unfortunately that’s not really viable.

I’ll concede that. Perhaps my conception of pvp differs from yours.

Plus when you finally get near him he uses all 26 1/2 evades and then jumps away again. lol

Difference is that Rangers didn’t become near unkillable with the buffs, like the Warriors did. If anything Ranger has gotten a slight survivability and offensive boost…because now Rangers don’t have to go 6 points into Marksmanship just to have signets effect themselves like everybody else can, and Rapid Fire actually goes quicker than the 5 second “free avoidance” window it had.

being able to down a non reflective character before it can make its way to you sounds pretty unkillable to me. probably even more so than actively having to get close to a character to do significant damage at all.

How is this any better than evisc spam warrior, without simply arguing “but they were weak before!” Most people aren’t suggesting a rollback, just an adjustment.

Hotjoin isn’t actual PVP. It’s for testing builds, dueling, and gameplay mechanics.

Play solo or team. No genuine pvp arena would allow you to reroll to the winning side if you did bad the whole match.

The suggested changes about rejoin cooldown are warranted though. I would even go so far as to say that dropping from a team and rejoining should stick you with a stack of dishonored.

It’s just hard to take hotjoin seriously as an actual pvp scene that isnt just duel/practice.
