Only thing I can think of is incomplete traits and the recent damage nerf to HB.

Which means things are intentionally that difficult at that level. just keep chipping away I suppose.

Oh.

You might be suffering from the 5% damage nerf to Hundred Blades since you are pretty much full zerker, just a note~ The last feature patch reduced greatsword damage. You might want to look into different utilities (like signet of rage) and start using your GS burst attack in order to get some of that dps back.

Other than that, im looking into what it could be. Sit tight.

My gear is mostly rare and a bit of masterwork and 1 exotic. No whites whatsoever.

?
My mistake then, I seem to have forgotten that borders don’t show up in the equipment UI. The yellow threw me off.

What are the Prefix names of your gear then? And how do your traits look?

Only a fool would stick around to be killed far better to disengage and distract another person. A retreat and a stomp aren’t much different except a crappy bag. You need to get over it or think of it as a compliment " I’m going to lose, forget waypointing I’m going to run".
I say this as a mesmer with barely anyway to stop a runaway warrior……..except maybe to not give him the option and finish it first time around.

This. You see a warrior and he:

has a GS
has a Sword
swaps to either of these two weapons

If(wantbag){Lockhimdowncondibombchillat50%HP}

The drawback to warriors is that everything they do is incredibly obvious. If you can do nothing to stop an incredibly obvious tell, then you might need to learn those tells better and play with knowledge of how to surmount those tells in mind.

Even if a warr is stacking melandru and has had a poultry dinner, they are far from immune from cc. you just need to interrupt their movement skills and you can pick them off.

I change gear every 10 levels, of course it doesn’t look great. Unless you’re talking about the dyes.

Using signet because they give nice passives, it’s my first character so I don’t know what works best. As for healing, this one seems to heal the most and gets rid of 3 conditions so I have been going with that one.

You’re doing fine for a new character.

From what I can see at first glance :

Earring slots free. could add something there.
You should be going for an all rare (yellow border) or masterwork (green border) set. Back up a to a slightly lower level map and work there until you have either items you can wear or enough silver to buy what you need from the Marketplace.

I prefer Healing Surge/ Signet, but I suppose mending could work in certain conditions.

You should not have any white items at all around this level.
White items are baseline quality items that are used at the games onset or in the event that your armor gets broken, so that is what I would work on first. Afterwards (or at the same time) I’d work on salvaging a bit more frequently to bump up your magic find. That will reduce the need for you to buy armor on the marketplace (although, at this point it doesn’t matter all too much)

Welcome to GW2, btw. I’d be glad to help you out a bit when I’m free. Send me a mail and I can explain some things in more depth in game.

how are folks scanning builds?

in Profession Balance

For rangers: walking spirits: 6 points in vitality. Fast arrows: 6 on power. 3 sec stun from gs: 6 points on crit etc

unless you’re wrong, no offense intended.

@ Topic OP

An educated guess is a guess, unless you are determined to take video of a fight and compare the dps ranges to the kinds of amulets that could possibly provide such ranges and take note of every instance in which X warrior randomly popped swiftness meaning furious speed (or maybe he used balanced stance? rewind video, check to see if stability popped u- nope, furious speed).

And even then you might miss the finer details.

You cannot scan builds in this game. you can only assume they are running a particular thing.

well on other hand i can entirely replicate what that mesmer did to me and its kind of fightening.

How about put up or shut up? You want people to take you seriously then provide some evidence instead of using the, “OMG SO OP, NOTHING YOU CAN DO!!!!!” argument.

This but less aggroed.

I’d like to see evidence of this stunlock chain existing. I’m having trouble wrapping my mind around Stability Generator with a Sword not being able to counter a lockdown.

You got 3 second to react btway your knocked down by GS push and in the middle of chaos storm with 3 illusion coming straith at you for a long stun and his mantra of distraction is ready he got 3 additionnal illusion ready to explode with mind wrack the moment the first 3 are done. Have fun

stability at chaos storm. blocks?

We can block shatters now iirc.

If engie, need shield, if thief, shouldnt have gotten pushed, lol.

All of this requires the mesmer have control of the fight, mind you.

Dying in 3 second in a chain stunlock isnt behing outplayed its called taking a overspiking nuke in the face.

If you died in 6 or 8 second fine youve been outplayed and the guy did play better then you but when the combo itself is as quick as spelling 1 shot backstab well theres a serious issue to balance.

Stunbreaks?

Thats about 4 consecutive 1 or 2 second stuns what you need here isnt stunbreak but stability and you need to have poped it out beforehand… btway nothing garentee that he wont wait for your stability to run out before chaining, That chain also prevent any form of healing response (chain stun/daze) so your very likely to be cooked.

“Stand Your Ground!” ?

Im not a guardian btway im just pointing out some mesmer can perform 1 shot chains. So no i dont have ‘’stand your ground’’ in my spell list or lovely stuff like balanced stance. Lot of build have very hard access to stability or just cant pop it on the fly when stunned (aka enginer in its whole, ranger as it require a casting time, mesmer just dont have it for more then like 1 second, Ele require to waste a slot to cantrip armor of earth wich is somewhat bad and necro just dont have one at all)

Well yes, but they all have forms of mitigation that would work against a specific stunlock chain (even outright preventing it in the first place).

it would just be… much… much harder. except in the case of necros where one touch AMGSOSCARED- Which probably balances out thier relative multi-faceted combat.

I can’t see how a guardian would allow himself to get baked by a stunlock though. Guardians are the stability class.

seems like nowadays they think weapons just are another decoration accessories more so than actual weapons. A random stick + some random particle effect = woww it’s so beautiful -_-
In some games i can name, i believe ithere are artists out there who can create something cool by investing in a combination of ornated designs, the flow of ornate decoration and the shape of weapons instead of resorting to a cheap and quick way to make something eye-catching.

I hardly think the tempest weapons were cheap and quick to make.

At the very least you should respect the investment of the artist in creating something for the game, even if you personally don’t like it.

to some people, the wind blade might hit a sweet spot. I personally liked the effort put into the ley line weapons. I don’t think they did the tempest ones cheaply though. They’re pretty, just not for me.

98 gold for a skin that has to be obtained by blind chance or previously saved claim tickets is a much better deal than if the content was exclusive to paying customers.

I will never understand why people fret and whine about anything being placed in the gem store. Rather than put the skins behind content people might not want to even do, they can do whatever they want to save up the gold needed for a skin.

How is that bad? what’s with the :/ face; can someone explain the dissatisfaction with that option to me? Is saving 70-80 gold (it will likely deflate to that soon) too hard for people who otherwise do dungeons/fractals/Ktrain/WvW/Pvp/Mysticforge/Craftandsell/Blacklionflipping often?

I’m happy with it. chaos skins, which looked even better than these imo, dropped to about 60 gold before the price bump. and it gives them time to work on other maps, playable content, and the living story.

moderators infracted the OP for making this.

Well, the responses were civil, but that does not seem to have been the intent of the thread from the OP.

May I ask what was this uncivil intention of mine you spoke of that even myself don’t even know? No matter how much I reread my original post, I couldn’t find out which letter that is evil. Couldn’t be worse than folks who constantly complains the class they lost to being OP. It seems people are quick to report these days (grins). Anyhow, as raven said, the responses, most of it, are fun too read.

Never said your post was evil or even outright uncivil. It doesn’t appear to be seeking to do much more than coax aggravated responses about “but this IS op!” from the people who read it. Nothing warranting a report of course, but it doesn’t exactly lay the foundation for a specific debate.

Hatred of the support role?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Support roles are disliked in PvE because of how predictable the AI is. AI is the reason zerker is the only thing dungeon runners use. When you know exactly what’s going to happen managing risk becomes easy, when managing risk is easy, you want to run high reward builds even if they are high risk.

If you make it harder to manage risk in PvE, Zerkers becomes less viable.

This. If any dungeon had chaotic elements that made predicting AI or events less easy, you’d see more room for bunkers/heals/what have you.
unfortunately, all the AI right now is if(!Boss){runTowardYouAndAttack};

So what I’m seeing is this:

Based on my highly anecdotal and extremely biased experience, I think a skill or weapon is overpowered, and because I state my opinion with stronger language and believe in it more strongly than I believe in any sort of factual or counter anecdotal arguments that don’t agree with mine, I believe the game developers should listen to my highly biased opinion about balance and balance the game just for me.

It couldn’t possibly be that I need to learn to play or adjust my skill level to compensate with a new element that previously did not exist within the game (purely in potency per time frame). That’s absurd. Clearly, anything that I can’t facetank and win against is OP.

If you only knew how true your statement was. Not ‘true’ in how much it makes sense (because obviously it makes very little), but true in the sense that it actually happens and is acted on for the sake of balance.

Omg after more than 2 week there are still people who can’t figure out how to counter a LB Ranger XD it’s too funny to be true.

Nobody wants to do a difficult encounter, when you have an easy encounter with the same rewards somewhere else.

If that is indeed true, it should tell you something about what people really want.

I hate thinking about it, but its possible Anet has ‘metrics’ backing this up, and the general avoidance of existing difficult bosses like the sand giant nobody does are merely confirming the numbers they pull.

I’d like difficult content. Lots of people like difficult content. Would the majority like difficult content? probably not.

People wont say something is too hard often. but they’ll definitely show it through inaction. I think the first step to actually getting players seeking challenging content on the radar would be getting groups to start burning Karka/wurm/teq/evengiant more frequently, to show that there are more people willing to do the content if Anet spends time and money getting the encounters set up.

How many people did liadri anyway?

“Hey Anet, we’re getting a whole lot of bonuses for letting this frequently respawning event fail (which requires little effort on our end), but this one guy keeps trying to succeed even though it’s tied to the living story you guys are focusing so much on. Can you ban him for trying to complete his content please? He’s obviously griefing even though he is playing the event as intended; because the majority believes he is wrong to do so/he feels compelled to stop us.”

Yes, people are going to try to ruin your day. That being said, the reasonable course of action would be to not go crying to Anet about people playing the game the way Anet intended them to play it, especially with what happened to blix.

Be mad, but not stupid.

What is up with people in MMO’s forgetting that they were new to these types of games once and figuring things out? I hop into a PvP ranked math be accident not knowing there was a starting place in PvP and I said hey I’m new and I am attacked by my whole team and then I said fine I’ll just leave, because I have bad anxiety and I don’t play a game to be looked down on so I tried to leave, you can’t leave ranked so I sat there and went to get food till it kicked me. I understand that in itself is bad, but they won the round anyways and i avoided to much harassment since they had to focus, and still they tried to get me a 72 hours ban which if I get I’m just gonna say screw it and go back to sandbox RPG’s where I can be in isolation away from the people who think they matter because they WASTE time and money like everyone else who plays video games on a fake world that gets you know where and teaches you nothing in life and they just happen to be better at it lol.

So you joined a competitive environment knowing you have anxiety, didn’t think of pressing “ESC” to log out, but have the technical prowess to log onto the forum and
insult gamers in general because they gave you a piece of their mind?

Seems legit.

That being said, you aren’t going to be banned. The most you get for AFKing often is a debuff that keeps you out of pvp environments.

They are currently working on the living story. While some of the feature changes have aggravated much of the forum goers into lividity, there’s still some nice content to do.

If you havent, do the first portion of the living story in your journal. a new dragon woke up after scarlet got dropped.

theres a WVW tourney now, obviously, and Blood and Madness will be returning in october.

There’s also a new armor set if you don’t mind pvp, a new zone, new weapon skins, new backpieces that take ages to make, and many new achievements.

Dungeons have not been updated, but there are achievements for collecting all the dungeon items, so theres tiny incentive to do the ones already out.

If all of that takes you > a month, the Living story will pick up on November.

Have fun. If you need a party for any content, I’m available in the evenings.

Hatred of the support role?

Azure The Heartless.3261

Anyone who says support doesn’t exist in PvE is a moron with no idea what they are talking about.

Support exists and is extremely popular in every single game mode. All good PvE groups will have every single member bringing some form of support, every WvW group will have support roles, and every good sPvP team has some support builds or builds with support built in.

yes to wvw and pvp.

Pve, it depends.

You bringing banners or empower allies/spotter/ etc? yes.

You decked out in full givers to rev people that down? You’re a detriment.

there’s a balancing point where stacking lots of toughness / etc on yourself outweighs the benefit you give by simply staying alive.

walking around healing people that dont actively need it to beat the boss is kind of silly.

If you give someone a mechanic, utility, or item that is effective in all situations or with minimal risk, they are almost always going to use it.

That right there is why they will stop using it. There is almost no situation it is effective in, not without sacrificing damage for better traits and utilities that will help the ranger survive, and once they start doing that it isn’t a lazy “hit 1 button to win” skill.

You and just about everyone else have said you have no problem killing them, so how is it minimal risk when they are dying so easily? This is a gimicky entry level build that will either get people interested enough to look at what else the class has to offer, or they will switch back to some other class because they are tired of dying 6 seconds after their opponent notices them.

Here’s hoping you’re right. The last thing I want is Ranger watered down into a two button build. I can’t shake the feeling that the proportion of people it actually works against will be enough to justify keeping a playstyle that is so easily applied.

It isn’t about “can I beat it” for me. I’m focused on how efforts made to diversify builds on a class is shoehorning it instead because of general effectiveness. I’m not everyone, and I’m sure not everyone carries a reflect/retal/shield.

Broken record here, LB burst dissuades all kinds of lazy play, and in fact forces reactive play.

Maybe that’s why people are so upset about it ><

I have nothing against active play, the laziness has just shifted to the ranger.

That’s my whole hang-up.

As long as players would rather cry on the forums than adapt to fight rangers I guess that is technically true. Of course you could call anything a lazy play style if the opponent doesn’t fight back.

there’s a lot of L2P issue with the recent Ranger buff, yes. That being said:

  • I still eat rangers w/ retal if they happen to get RF in.
  • I think the effort required for their combat effectiveness has dropped off the face of the planet.

I’m not arguing because I’m having trouble with them. The only thing the buff did to stop me from melting them was the 6 second Endure Pain buff they got.

I’m arguing because now the majority of them are just sitting around doing absolutely nothing but pressing 1, 2 off cd. A buff should not shoehorn rangers into a specific build, much less a specific skill on a weapon of that build.

You think anyone that was actively playing their rangers before the patch is doing this? We’ve had a bunch of new build possibilities pop up since the patch.

The people spamming buttons are the people that never touched their rangers. If they actually stick with their rangers how long do you think they will stick to that crappy 1 trick build?

It’s not our best 1v1 build, it’s not our best group build, even cry hards like yourself say you have no problem beating it 1v1, all this build is really doing is getting more people to play ranger and once they start to enjoy it they will likely start tweaking their build or looking up new builds and playing those. So what exactly is the problem here?

If you give someone a mechanic, utility, or item that is effective in all situations or with minimal risk, they are almost always going to use it.

I wouldn’t say I am crying hard about anything, but I doubt the majority of people playing rangers with said strategy will suddenly become inspired by honor/experience/“Gee I want to do something with the same payoff but more work” and decide that they want to do something more active. That’s wishful thinking at best.

I am well aware that it is not your best 1v1 or group build. I have no qualms with rangers being decent in WVW or PVP at all. My issue is with lazy play, as I have said numerous times.

Adrenaline has been BUTCHERED!

in Warrior

Azure The Heartless.3261

I’m not against changes at all, but disproportionate changes to things that weren’t that big a deal? Hmmmm.. Not for PvE when most of the QQ was coming from WvWvW and sPvPers.

Berserker’s Power Increased damage based [sic] how much adrenaline you have built.
Adrenal Health Regenerate health based on adrenaline level.

These things are a big deal when you have nearly unlimited maximum adrenaline. When these two aspects are applied to a high armor high health high dps class it makes that class far outshine the competition.

you forgot to mention that both of these things reset to 0 when adrenaline is spent, which will happen during a miss, whether that miss is due to an attempt to remove conditions or not.

Rarely at full adrenaline for longer than a couple of seconds if you need to condi clear. Adrenal health only ticks for 380ish hp every three seconds.

Warriors dont have unlimited maximum adrenaline. they need to spend it to clear condis, which is now much more difficult due to condi clears not proccing on miss.

Looks good on paper, but in practice, not as much as you might think.

Check out these threads…..Ranger is OP, engineer is OP, necro is OP, guard is OP, mesmer is OP. Make up your mind, jeez.

Oh, no comment on Warr, Thief?

Good.

That’s because everyone who’s whining is either a warrior or a thief.

… kitten , hadn’t thought of that.

In hindsight though, makes sense. + two classes make up a significant portion of the profession balance.

Rarely do I ever see thieves complain outside of their own profession. Wars, on the otherhand, tend to complain that they need more DPS or CC more than they complain about other professions. It is usually the other professions that complain.

EDIT: Actually the reason why you don’t see warr/thief QQ alot is because war being OP is a given to the community and thieves are leaving their profession and hopping on war or guard.

People would be surprised how much kitten we have to do just to stay alive on the battlefield. Feel free to hop on War and give walking around with a “cannot disengage” target on your back a try.

and then there are nike warriors….

Tell me why they should be slow.

So… what you meant to say was cannot disengage if they don’t equip the weapons, traits, utilities, that make them experts at disengaging?

Not at all. The problem is (apparently) doing something to fix the warriors that trait and gear specifically to get away from you without breaking the warriors that need those aspects for valid reasons. Assuming disengaging is not a “valid” reason.

…. okay
So when did they break warriors ability to disengage? You’ve completely lost me at this point. It sounded like what you were saying was warriors have no way to disengage, when in fact they have some of the best mobility in the game, not to mention stability, immunity, and reflects, which all help to disengage.

Lol. no. I thought you were saying that the warriors needed to be slowed down when specced for mobility at the cost of effective damage/cc.

I am well aware of their mobility, I main one.

My mistake for the confusion.

Revealed is a condition

Umm no, no it isn’t. it is a debuff. There are 12 conditions, this is literally not one of them

I don’t quite understand how “we should be able to counter stealth” applies in any way to this, but I don’t think thieves need to have to train their eyes on the status bar to see when one of their core mechanics isnt working.

The core mechanics of many skills has to do with the fact that they are single target skills. It is hypocritical to assume it is okay for your main profession should have no counter it a mechanic, yet support it having counter to the main mechanics of so many other professions skills.

Three things.

1. Typo. I meant debuff.

2. My main is a warrior. I do not play thief; I just like fighting them.

3. I am not arguing that they should not be countered or be able to counter anything. I am merely arguing that they should be notified either visually or through a cue when they get their stealth blocked. Is there something incredibly wrong with a “lol u cant stealth” noise being added to the already visual icon they have? If Anet wanted them to be blind to the fact that they are revealed, they wouldnt have even bothered using the icon.

Rapid Fire

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Because it is face roll easy to build a bar. I have a warrior that I leveled to 80 in WvW. They are ridiculously easy to play effectively.

I am not denying that it was (or is ) easy to build adrenaline.

That being said, building a bar is still more difficult than “perch and press 1 button.”

Further, building that bar and using it also affected consistent dps, healing, burst damage, conditions, and several other things, but it was still considered too easy to maintain and received a nerf. The Damage wasnt touched on bursts this last go round (the gs abomination excluded), which draws attention to the state of the mechanic as being too forgiving.

If we’re arguing on ease of effectiveness (as Anet seems to be listening to these arguments) I am quick to point out that an 8 second CD, 1500 range moderate-to significant damaging attack is incredibly easy to perform and be effective with.

And if your counterargument is that Rangers are full glass to deal damage you deem significant, I’d like to note two things; a ranger savvy enough to spec for max damage at range at the cost of armor is likely going to position himself to not allow you to get to him with much of your HP intact.

While there is some skill that comes into finding and getting to these positions, after that the skill floor sinks abysmally low. While Rangers do need a buff, the current one is too little risk for the reward it brings, especially given that the skill ceiling was high enough before to let them wreck face with GS if they so chose.

buff needed. Lazy play not.
