That, in conjunction with the nerf that heavily punishes Warrior missing a single skill in a world of dodges, blocks, blinds and evades that in many cases cannot be predicted, forces Warriors to often hoard their adrenaline, which is what the developers apparently wanted to avoid.

The ooc decay rate could be slowed down a few steps i agree. But at the same time I have always hated the tactic of using a greatsword to get out of combat to heal and then come back in again. Like a cheap thief.

You can manage your adrenaline. Don’t get out of combat – stay within range. There are other weapons than GS. Some of them work better with the adrenaline nerf. You can use your hammer to jump 600 range without loosing your adrenaline, swap weapons before you land it and you can do it again in 10 seconds. Pair that with a sword in main hand and you have two 600 leaps on 8 and 10 second cd(Fast hands trait) as long as you’re in combat.

EDIT: Misread – part of the post still stands though.

That situation you posted goes both ways, even. Said cheap thief can disengage to reset Warr adrenaline now. The moment a class can directly influence another classes core mechanic, something is wrong.

I’m against the “run away” option myself. but this time such a strategy directly affects my power and healing. I used to tolerate it because it was merely a way of delaying the inevitable, but now its a viable combat tactic. Instead of allowing yourself time to heal, OOC now negatively impacts your opponents strength. It’s like Anet was saying “ooh, cant beat this warrior? Here, let me soften him up for you” instead of actively encouraging a higher thought process for the currently standing warriors.

The sad thing is a direct handicap is not a “skill balance” or added “complexity” as far as strategy is concerned.

The sadder thing is the people howling like jackals about “warrior is brainless press F1 spam, need them to use more braincells” were actually partially satisfied with warriors just generally being harder to play, whether or not the factors leading to that difficulty were in the warrior’s control or not.

An alternative to Celestial Armor?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

I wanted to ask if there was a good alternative to celestial armor for elementalists. I won’t be able to craft it anyways for like another 20 days or so and it will take me longer to afford the runes that I keep hearing that I should get.

So I ask here, what other choices do I have? I read many threads but they always seem to lead to the same celestial build (sometimes berserker’s).

I am not very skilled but I want to spend time to learn the class and become better for all game modes, but mostly things like dungeons or small scale wvw.

So are there any alternatives?

Non competitive? full zerker.

SmallGroup WVW? Rabid, Dire, Carrion.

PVP? Its no use.gif / Celestial.

How to balance classes

How to perfectly balance game:

A.) Turn off the Servers
B.) Export all class data to a storage library
C.) Stand that Library upright

You cannot perfectly balance anything in this game. What is OP to one person is UP to another, and vice versa.

We will be whining about what is ‘too stronk’ and ‘too week’ until the game dies, No matter what Anet does.

Anet already figured that out, thats why they only bother with our qq twice a year.

rapid fire shouldn't track through stealth

Rapid fire is already powerful enough, and rangers have a reveal skill. they shouldnt get free hits through the channel.

That being said, Thieves could just stealth after or before rapid fire instead of trying to stealth in the middle of it to avoid this problem entirely.

Barrage & Meteor EXPLOIT

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

I don’t think the OP understands how these skills work.

Lets take Barrage for example.

These symbols symbolize the channel
[ ][ ][ ][ ][ ]

These symbols symbolize the hits

If both of those were placed on a timeline you will see that there is a hit corresponding to each moment the skill is channeled, and the hits are delayed.

[ ] [ ] [x] [x] [x] x x

So to an uneducated person it appears the skill is still going off after it has been interrupted …. but the actual hits and the channeling are skewed.

Life Transfer works like this

[x][x][x][x][x][x][x][x]

Bingo.

As was stated with the Ranger skill with the falling arrows, projectiles have a skewed landing rate from when they were fired. Rangers and arrow carts also have skills that work like:

[ ] [ ] [x] [x] [x] x x

It looks like the ele is getting away with free hits, but he isnt.

He just channeled those hits before he moved.

Meteor is fine as is.

Vengeance, fix this please!

in Warrior

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Vengeance itself is imbalanced, especially in PvP/WvW. It should have a 60sec cooldown before it becomes available when downed.

That way if you’ve survived long enough while downed, you deserve to get up and fight.

Who’s going to let a warrior bleed out on the ground for a whole minute? Lolukiddin’?

It’s fine as is. a trait allows you to win every close / double down battle, and if not traited, 25% chance to rally on anything slain within 15 seconds. For a state thatyou can access before being KO’d, that’s pretty reasonable. There’s no need to buff or nerf it. and especially no need to increase the timer to longer than it would take for the warrior to bleed out.

Lol.. 60 seconds.

Warriors vs

in Warrior

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Yeah I must admit that my sentence was poorly made…

But what matters in the end is the fact that is all this complaining about how weak and underwhelming the warrior is. This is just sad and wrong.

It’s just a matter of being more careful than before, warrior isn’t about rushing recklessly in the thick of things. We still have good damage, good access to hard CC, strong condi dispell and insane passive defenses…

Even when not rushing recklessly into things, all traits that depend on adrenaline reset to 0 the moment we get out of combat. None of that can be mitigated by being more careful. We took a hard nerf as a class to our core mechanic.

EX:

Adrenal Health: Resets to 0 out of combat or on miss.
Cleansing Ire: Resets to 0 out of combat or on miss.
Berserkers power: Damage buff reset to 0 upon out of combat or miss.
Heightened Focus: Reset to 0 upon out of combat or miss.

I am fine with the burst skills depleting adrenaline on miss. That much is fine and acceptable skill floor raising.

The fact that, as warrior stands, my adrenaline benefits are nixed the moment I leave combat, is a hit to the core mechanics. If anything the decay rate should be halfed, if not put back to where it was initially. The fact that adrenaline depletes immediately upon leaving combat removes the strategy complexity that once existed there.

That, in conjunction with the nerf that heavily punishes Warrior missing a single skill in a world of dodges, blocks, blinds and evades that in many cases cannot be predicted, forces Warriors to often hoard their adrenaline, which is what the developers apparently wanted to avoid.

My life as a warrior.

in Warrior

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

For years, I honed my skills with the blade. Many enemies slain; blood, constantly dripping from my sword. My skills were unmatched. My comrades admired and stood by my side.

As a warrior, my strength and control of the sword were unmatched. However, my comrades knew not what secret that has burdened me my whole life. For of all the skills I could master, one always escaped my grasp. From time to time, I’d practice, feel determination . . only to be disappointed. But today, with my blade sharpened, sharp enough to cut through the heavy armor forged by the rare Orichalcum Ore, sharp enough to fell any beast that dare cross my path, I felt ready. Today . . . I hunt.

I tread across the meadows, scouting for any prey that might serve as my meal for the day. Any prey to hone the skill that never could be mastered. After hours of searching, I found myself on a small hill, staring into the eyes of a Flame Legion BladeDancer, an enemy. I felt the blood rushing across my body. I firmly gripped my sword, and without a moment’s notice, I leaped into the air towards my foe! As my comrades put it, a perfect initiator would be a savage leap into the enemy.
I felt the wind brush across me as I closed the distance, and then I thrust my sword forward, piercing all that it touched.

I landed, then looked at my enemy. Not even phased. Still perfectly fine. It is to be expected one might suppose . . when you thrust your sword forward midair, before even being in range of the enemy, let alone on the same level to even strike him.

TL;DR Aegis, Obstructed.

My warrior turned lvl 80 today and i have no idea what to build and use .

So far , for my weapons , i like to use a sword and warhorn with a rifle .

What equipment should i use ? carrion ? knight ?

What about sigils ?

And the kind of build ?

Till lvl 80 , i mostly used signets . What abilities are good ?

thanks in advance guys

Welcome to endgame, where we complain and kill each other like some kind of dystopian Valhalla.

Your rifle will be good for WVW, but if you intend to use it in pvp you better get really good with it.

If you like your bleeding damage, go condition. if you are too squishy, mix knight and zerker.

Sigils of Energy, Bloodlust, Battle, Geomancy, and Doom are your best friends. Pick something that synergizes well with what you like to do.

EX: I run Shield Axe / GS, but I’m a bunker, so my damage output is not the best (Knight/Zerker + little soldier, defense line, tactics line). To compensate, I took Bloodlust for WVW and Battle for PVP, with Energy as my second Sigil on both sets, so I can rev up to decent damage while still maintaining Point-holding tankiness.

As a note, whatever you use warhorn for, you might want to pick up a control weapon or a shield instead, and look into gaining the warhorn benefit through traits.

If you don’t get downed at least sometimes, then you’re doing something very wrong.

Or youre just very good.

Even the very good players die, because their survivability eventually gets noticed and they get focused. Good or not, never dying involves abandoning points when death is involved.

On Topic:

Vengeance is fine as is. It takes ages to unlock which means quick/invisi/surprise stomps ruin it, can be kited out, bursted down,
but at the same time it allows you to fight normally and even rally off of deaths. It doesnt need any further buff. what it has is plenty.

OP has a point

“A prediction (Latin præ-, “before,” and dicere, “to say”) or forecast is a statement about the way things will happen in the future, often but not always based on experience or knowledge."

-Wiki,

Instant casts can be predicted, if you know what skills a class has off CD, when the opportune times for those skills to be used are, and how to avoid them should you find yourself in a position where they would be effective against you.

Example: Steal can be blocked/delayed for three seconds or Aegis’d.

Actually the only time they advertised the whole new content every two weeks was during the time when there was new content every two weeks. So not really anything lied about there.

They are most likely also going back to the two week release schedule starting on Tuesday when S2 returns.

We also did have new content (depending on who you ask) less than two weeks ago with the added stuff to the Halloween festivities.

If you do want a refund you will have to contact support. Keep in mind that a refund will only be considered if you bought the game directly from them and within 6 months from now.

Nor have they made any new adverts recanting their original claims.

C’mon a hardcore GW2 fan would not call this Halloween event NEW content. Yes S2 is starting soon, but it only has 5 episodes left. That is 10 weeks. Some where in there will be the X-mas event….hey which is old recycled crap from last year as well.

As dead as this game has become {evidenced by mega-servers and last month they offered free weekends to play …..TWICE} i would gladly pay $100 for a new X-pac comparable to the Day 1 map.

Hell, i would pay $100 bucks now to get the OLD GW2 back. They have severely watered the game down for filthy casuals.

Couple things.

Anyone that bought the game is just as important to the game as you are.
There -is- new content in the Halloween event, whether or not you want to admit it.

The slow decline in population will continue, until the line where they snowball when most of your friends that you play with are gone. Returners players will return for less and less time, they leave when they see that after months or year nothing has been done. And why the studio that made a succesfull game in 5 years stopped completely working on it since its launch will remain a mysterie.

You fail to take into account that new players join every day, with millions of new players making up the recent China release.

And they still have Korea, Russia, Southeast Asia, Brazil to launch to.

Game isn’t going anywhere for a while; and once they figure out how to sustain through the gem store without ticking off the playerbase, they should be fine for years to come.

I have been playing for about a year.

The opinions of vets are ofcourse valued, but I think there needs to be more good news stories about this game. I wanted the wider community and Anet to know that theres plenty of us that really love GW2 and appreciate the work behind it.

There will always be haters and those who are bitter, but the other side of the coin needs to see the light of day sometimes too

This.

Sometimes I am bitter about changes that are made to content I am comfortable with to my detriment, but GW2 is enjoyable, the combat system is innovative, the world is beautiful, the lore is engaging and I have fun playing.

Plus the dev team listens on big issues rather quickly.

The only caveats I have are the content pace and the approach to balancing the devs take. But seeing as how no game can be perfect, I can easily deal as they do their best.

I saw the test of the new interface today and it looks solid to me. (I also happen to think it’s very attractive, but maybe that’s just me. )

The interface and Custom option move into testing now, and the text is already headed to Localization.

The dev team is keenly aware that there are Halloween items available only during a specific period (through November 4) and therefore they intend to do their darnedest to offer the new options in the next few days but certainly in advance of November 4th if humanly possible. (I have confidence this will happen.)

This right here is -precisely- the kind of detail I’d like to see in terms of content scheduling, expectations, and confidences.

Even if the answer is displeasing or seems far off, a more concrete answer than “soon” is always appreciated in the long run. Most of us are aware development takes time and that priorities must be balanced, but providing a period of time in which we can expect to see it is an excellent decision, If I may say so myself.

People keep shouting about all these massive issues that have been here since release and is not fixed and yet I have never actually seen anyone that have said WHAT these issues are and HOW to fix them.

erm ok jst a few to keep you amused.
zerk meta
pvp lack of content
condition in pve
lack of challenging content
lack of rewarding content
gem conversion
precursor crafting
zerg as the answer aka mindless and boring farming instead of fun content
that would be a great start!

Zerk meta is community mindset. PVP is getting new maps. Condi in PVE works fine. WVW/Dungeons/Fractals/Triple Wurm/PVP are challenging and rewarding. Gem conversion could be fixed by supporting the devs a bit instead of trying to go around it, even though the old conversion rate is being put back in.
Precursor crafting is not mandatory. Zerg is community mindset, joining one and complaining you’re bored isnt a game flaw, and there are a couple world bosses/WVW/PVP content that actually force you to not zerg. Nobody plays them except dedicated groups because they aren’t easy.

A lot of the the issues the community has are a matter of perspective. That being said, content at a faster rate would be very nice.

Glad that some people can still see the good in a game rolling in a sea of pessimism and general jerk-kittenery.

It has a really solid foundation. That being said, the content patch for ARR is [Redacted], and I’m pretty sure people here would wait 24 hours for a similar enhancement.

I wonder just how many people actively spend real money on the gem store instead of just farming gold for said items.

I’m also curious about how suddenly providing Anet with less Resources will give the the motivation and funding needed to develop further content.

>Emergency measure: Provide developers with less income to motivate them to produce more.
If they’re just greedy, we might see a change. If they’re not and NCsoft is the greedy pne (or people are just refusing to spend in general), we might see less, or nothing.

pretty risky game.

It’s a beautiful game for what it’s worth.

The dev team seems afraid to touch it in terms of expansion and additional content, though. Everything dropped recently has been a polish or rehash of existing content, with the exception of Dry Top.

I’m watching, but for some reason they aren’t moving at a pace quick enough to keep constant interest.

They’re fun, yes. That being said:

Most of our CC skills are bugged.

The ones that are not bugged are complained about

Most of our Healing skills are useless

The one that isnt useless is complained about

Adrenaline change gutted many strength/arms oriented builds.

So right now, the Warrior players have this kind of miasma around them, where if they take the skills that work they tick off the player base, but if they don’t they lose.

If you can get by all of that, it’s quite fun.

Coming from a mesmer, sure you may think its fun. Just know it was much more fun a year or so ago, and the warriors that were used to that playstyle feel crippled.

I guess you guys didn’t hear that the change is being reversed.

No, we did. OP personally doesnt care though. the motion was enough for him.

I’m just trying to figure out why they’d motion to do something like that without a heads up if it wasn’t to solve an immediate problem dealing with income. I’m pretty sure mountains of tickets about how to use the system by new players doesnt require a complete overhaul, especially since that stuff isnt necessary to play and being presented with an easy option to dump more money into the game after outright buying it might not be the first thing new players do.

I can’t buy that our community is that dumb. If it turns out there was another reason related to gold->gem conversion, gold sinks might assist that.

That being said, Hanlons razor. This situation was just really hard to buy such an explanation for.

Put “mysterious vendor” in a city, make him travel around for added effect, he sells really expensive skins that would otherwise be in the black lion store for huge amounts of gold.

done.

I think you figured out the thing that might make me leave the game. I knew there could be something, but wasn’t sure what.

So…. No gold sink, no gem gate?

I dont blame him. The time spent attempting to make an overt cashgrab could have been spent working on gold sink content so people wouldnt have so much gold to spend on gems in the first place.

Put “mysterious vendor” in a city, make him travel around for added effect, he sells really expensive skins that would otherwise be in the black lion store for huge amounts of gold.

Pretty sure it isnt all that simple but there would be less people in game with cash to blow on gems, which would probably help settle the “We aren’t getting enough cash” feeling Anet is having.

Step up and talk for the majority of us WvW’ers, don’t let the minority take control of this game and run it to the ground.

Especially when the “minority” is just trying to do their own thing. How dare they not conform!?

Staffs, Mad Kings, and Ninja Villagers.

I’ve been devoting my time online to Lunatic inquisition currently, and have noticed that a couple of toys work in the game, on either side.

My personal interest is in the [Bloody Prince’s Staff], which is a costume brawl item that is usable in the match. Notable about this staff is that, on a reasonably frequent basis, it can grant stealth to the user for no longer than a second.

My question about this is twofold.

Does the stealth the prince staff grant actually render the user invisible to the opposing team? Since it replaces all skills on the left, this would largely benefit villagers if true.
If it -does- grant true stealth, does this constitute an exploit? (Using Staff3 for mini stealths to gain added evasion, given the fact that any Mad king beseeches, attacks, or fears will disable the staff)

PS. Sorry for ignorance if the costume brawl stealth is widely known to not matter or be effective elsewhere. Not that knowledgable about most brawl skills.
