Just a sidenote, Mortar’s damage IS being increased by explosive powder, and is in fact being classed as an explosion. This is easy enough to tell when you run the trait Steel-packed powder, or simply look at Mortar’s skill damage and see that it’s damage is blue, not white when you’re traited with explosive powder.

Also, I’m just going to go ahead and say it because we’re thinking it: Mortar Shot’s damage decreased by too much with the latest kneejerk patch. It now only exceeds the Rifle’s damage by virtue of the explosion’s damage trait.

Yes, because Anet knifing a skill’s damage by 1/3rd in a kneejerk reaction is a “tiny change.”

I feel like they should keep all maps in-game and have them dynamically change based on your current toon’s progression in the story.

They wont because it would instantly slice out new players, and those that dont have much story completion on a given character, from the rest of the community.

Condi users except Necros cause they have no burning (except terribad Dhuumfire ) and compared to eg. engi incredibly low bleed application. 1 skill doing 12 bleeding stacks compared to Necro skills that do like 3-4 max. even with massive self sacrifice on eg. Blood is Power… hardly seems fair.

Do me a favor and actually provide a source to claiming a single skill for engis can inflict 12 stacks of bleed will you? Because I actually play an engi, and I dont see any such skill. The highest bleed stack application I’ve been able to for engis is blunderbuss, with 4 stacks if you’re in melee range.

Are you going to address how you forced characters to train into builds using their hero points without their consent? :o

It’s simple, “deal with it.” It’s the same as their reply to people complaining about this change in general: “deal with it.”

And that’s not even mentioning that they chose what it would take to get something either identical or as identical as possible. Frankly it’s a kittened in the kitten if they dont, kittened in the kitten if they do. So they’re simply going to take the road of “this is what we’re going to do, and we dont care if you dont like it.”

Please, for a love of whatever of the GW God’s you choose…get a test server. It is just unacceptable to me personally to see an entire game get unbalanced and the community have to play the waiting game until things are corrected.

This happens, because as bright as the people balancing things are, they simply cannot predict what is going to happen in a mass environment with live players. Can run all the algorithms in the world and that won’t stop a few players from devising a way to totally ruin the game.

Also, I don’t think we should pin this on conditions being too strong. I think everything is too strong.

I understand that this would be helpful but in the absence of a test server, which is our current situation, we will do as much as we can as fast as we can. We made some changes today and more will be coming as the week goes on. After that our intention is to make balance and bug fix changes to this stuff every couple of weeks leading up to the release of HoT.

Also, not everything is too strong, just all forms of damage.

Jon

Incidentally, test servers are defunct as well. People think they’d fix the problems with updates, but that is false for the vast majority of things. People are more concerned with figuring out how to take advantage of the changes for their own benefit, bugs be kitten ed. I dont blame anet for not wanting a test server. Mind you, I’m sure there’s a mad rush for a computer when the intercom says “hey guys, new update being tested, you know what to do.”

well, technically we were getting a good deal all along… at least for the ultimate edition. 4000 gems = $50 and a char slot = $10 for a cost of everything else left at $40. So divide $40 into the skins, guildhall item, mini rytlock and the expansion. Now its even better as it is $50 for the 4k gems, $20 for the slots, leaving $30 to divide into the remainder stated above…. Technically you are paying $30 for the game and expansion unless you deduct for the fluff…

It’s not. Such math as that is irrational. Anet has repeatedly stated its $50 for the expansion.

I just wanted to update this thread with a bit of new information:

  • Everyone officially participating in the in-game events on behalf of ArenaNet will be sporting her or her new Cm [Name] character. For instance, I’ll be Cm Gaile Gray.
  • We’ll be jumping into the game throughout the day.
  • We’ll do our best to stop by any in-game events or parties that are going on. Because goodness knows, ArenaNet folks love a good party.
  • Some of us may be chattier than others because in celebration of the build, we’re having coffee carts in the morning and a few of us ~whistles~ tend to really enjoy that caffeine buzz. Flying chat fingers, ftw!
  • Each team member will let you know when he or she joins the game. We don’t have special chat colors, but we’ll definitely try to let you know we’re in and where we are. (I have my spot all picked out.)
  • The characters you meet tomorrow are official non-play characters created for events through a special process. They will not be used to play; they will not impact the game economy; they will not participate in WvW or PvP. They cannot give away items or currency, nor can they accept anything.

We are really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, and even more, to you seeing the beautiful new Lion’s Arch!

Will you guys be wandering to other areas as well? I know some of us in TTS are hoping to test the theory of not being able to reach 1500 stacks of conditions in normal situations

I know I said I was out of this thread. However, upon further consideration I’m going to wait a few days to see if Anet comes up with something for those of us that bought the Deluxe/Ultimate edition. If they don’t I suppose I will contact support and see if they can either refund the extra $50 I paid, remove the items/gems I received with the Ultimate edition, and convert me to the Standard edition or refund me completely and remove the upgrade. I don’t know if that will be possible though as I have already added the mini to my wardrobe. I suppose they could roll the account back but then I’d lose all progress I have made since I bought the Ultimate edition. Plus they generally only do rollbacks for hacked accounts.

If you’ve already unlocked the mini, the answer’s likely going to be “not unless you want your account closed.”

I understand come tomorrow there will be no more skill points and we will now have spirit shards. What do I do with these spirit shards?

Same thing you use skill points at the moment for in LA (mystic forge stuff).

I also understand at level 80 now we unlock all skills and traits. So basically tomorrow when I log in tomorrow and go to my traits I can do everything and it’s all unlocked or am I going to have to do something special for my traits to be unlocked?

Thank you very much to anyone who can assist, I want to make sure I’m understanding things correctly before I log in tomorrow.

Traits and skills will be locked, but there should be an easy way of unlocking everything by spending hero points (probably in the traits window on the hero window thing).

[Suggestion] Elite Racial Traitlines

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Basandra Skye.4031

Basandra Skye.4031

No. This was suggested before and shot down as well. The REASON racial elites are at best, just under what a class elite gives, is because anet does NOT want people required to run a specific race to be effective at a specific class. Asura engineer? No thanks, I’d rather that choice be aesthetic instead of required. Norn warrior? Same thing. Sylvari ranger?

Also, just a tip, when asking people their opinion, dont prompt them with something that does everything except ask if it’s something they dont want Those that dont want something can have more than just an emotional attachment to why they said no.

[Suggestion] Upgrade Extractor Revamp

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Basandra Skye.4031

Basandra Skye.4031

I think it’s the wrong solution for the stated problem. This extractor is intended for infusions, not runes or sigils. The question is whether there should be a way to recover things that are worth 2-10 gold and if so, what that looks like.

The old transmutation system was designed to make it easy to move those upgrades from one piece of gear to another. The current wardrobe doesn’t allow for that, so maybe there could be a similar setup:

  • Use a transmutation charge to move an upgrade into your upgrade locker.
  • Upgrade any gear you have from your upgrade locker.
  • Add some sort of limitations to prevent stockpiling or other things that could disrupt the markets. Perhaps a limit on how many you can store or for how long.

I’m not against making it easier to preserve expensive upgrades. I just don’t think the extractor is the right tool for that job.

Minor caveat to that though. You’d only be able to use the rune/sigil as many times as you put it into the “locker.” That way just putting one in doesnt let you use say, all 200 charges you’ve got putting them into cheap gear, salvaging with a BL kit, and selling for profit.

Skill points and Spirit Shards?

I heard that from this Tuesday, our skill points will be converted into a new currency called: spirit shards.

Here’s my question:

1. Can we use spirit shards to unlock skills like we currently do with skill points?
2. If not, how can we unlock skills from now on?
3. Should I try to unlock all skills before the changes in case we can no longer unlock skills through skill points?

In order, no, with the new system, no, because the new system locks everything until you unlock them.

Ideally the balance is in the ramp-up time. It’s impossible to outright blast someone with 25 stacks of bleeding. Even a necro can take 5-10 seconds, or more, to max out bleeding right now. In that time, a power build can, and likely would, kill someone.

I have a question for devs:

Is there a reason this impressively massive update wasn’t presented to us as being a new Feature Pack?

So far it’s merely an “overhaul” of traits, with skills adjusted as appropriate, with other changes scattered around to help prep for HoT.

[Suggestion] Upgrade Extractor Revamp

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Basandra Skye.4031

Basandra Skye.4031

It’s not meant for runes or sigils at all. It’s primarily meant for infusions, some of which can cost 2-3 times the upgrade extractor.

The only way the upgrade extractor would have more than 1 use, is if there was a significant chance of nuking the upgrades in the process.

Devs current stance on GW2 consoles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Basandra Skye.4031

Basandra Skye.4031

So when asked before about why Guild Wars 2 wasn’t coming to consoles. We have a few articles like this. One reason they say is that it won’t is because consoles require a subscription to their service to play mmos.

http://www.vg247.com/2013/07/02/guild-wars-2-next-gen-consoles-and-the-mmo-conflict/

Final Fantasy XIV, DC Universe Online, Elder Scrolls Online all don’t require a paid PSN account on the PS4. Elder Scrolls Online does require xbox live gold(payed version).

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/01/28/the-elder-scrolls-online-on-ps4-your-questions-answered/

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/elder-scrolls-online-will-require-xbox-live-gold

Can you please tell me what if any changes are made on the console stance? Also was this the only reason cited for not making a console version?

I think this would be one of the best mmos on console or PS4 only if Xbox wouldn’t play ball. Arena could make more money. It is already one of the best rated mmos on PC.

The stance is “No.” That’s what it’s been for a long time now. That’s not even getting involved in the technical details of getting the game “vetted” by those platforms, let alone the process of patching the game. IF they did make console versions, they would be 100% isolated from each other and the PC version just because of version conflict and version “lag” due to the need to push through bureaucratic red tape for the update to land.

Did Anet foresee HoT price pandemic?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Basandra Skye.4031

Basandra Skye.4031

You forget, devata, that you DO still need the base game to play HoT. That much wont ever change, regardless of what ends up being sold. Not to mention unless you’re a sooper-seekret Anet staffer, you, as well as the rest of us, are likely seriously in the dark about what influenced the pricing choices, as well as the choice to totally choke off selling the core game by itself* and bundle it with the HoT purchase.

*They’ve mentioned before shortly after the announcement that all content in the “near” future will be gated behind the expac. No longer selling the core by itself IS a smart business decision in the end because it can reduce new-customer burden involved in starting the game. As well as reduce the odds of the community becoming increasingly fractured (see GW1).

So, was the “running off the edge and making an idiot follow you while to teleported back up” THAT much of an issue that Spectral walk needed to change?

really.

One of the few really fun things to do in EoTM without derailing the k-train there and you took it away? Why?

Look at the changes again pookie, as well as the clarifications. IIRC, Spectral WALK, the base “state” of the skill, cannot be activated in midair anymore. This was probably done more as a fix for abusing it’s ability to reset fall damage to 0. Spectral RECALL (what it shifts to after using spectral walk) remains untouched.

So, the use you have for it remains unchanged as the intent is probably to use spectral walk BEFORE you go off the edge.

Did Anet foresee HoT price pandemic?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Basandra Skye.4031

I think they simply believed that $50 was fairly reasonable for HoT. I’m not sure they saw the way their packages would be perceived regarding the whole new player/vet player thing coming, however.

It looks to me like they really didn’t see that argument coming, considering how easy it would have been to avoid altogether. If I had to guess, I’d say they were likely surprised by the level of outrage, though the FAQs thing was probably done deliberately.

Actually, they did say fairly early on into the outrage that with or without the base game being included, you were going to pay $50. It’s likely a fair guess that all the people that are “outraged” over that are likely similar people “outraged” over Anet saying a year or two back that the first iteration of pre-crafting was scrapped due to changes coming. So… they likely DID see the potential of this outrage, and probably dont care.

It’s probably a similar situation to people clamoring about not wanting anymore outfits. “Ermigerd, i h8 outfits soo much, like, h8 so much i just spend money on an outfit that i’ll never put on my chars even though they were wearing it before this sentence was a coherent thought. STAHP WITH THE OUTFITS.” Yea… those people. They say they dont want them, yet still go out and buy them despite the outrage. Lot of the people saying “I will not buy the expac” likely will buy it, probably for full price too.

The core game had enough content to entertain you for thousands of hours. What we know of HoT is it not even close to having that amount of content (not even 30%) yet we are expected to pay 83% of the price of the original game.

Even though initially we only get 30% of stuff that was included in core game, all future additions to the game will require HoT to play. The fact that you cant buy the core game anymore basically proves that point.

I don’t pay for promises. I will wait for HoT to fall into the price range I am willing to pay.

Hope that price range is a sliding scale, tbh. Odds are there wont be able sales on HoT until WELL into release, probably for a year or so. As near as I can tell, prepurchasing for the core game started a month or so before release. Unfortunately, no amount of googlekittenI used was able to find a definitive date to when Anet had the first sale on it.

Two Months Old Customer Felt Betrayed Already

Basandra Skye.4031

Nice anecdote but once again, I am not complaining about the pricing. It is about how Anet’s old faq seems to imply that you would not be seeing the base game bundled for free along with the expansion. Go compare the two faqs in my first post and tell me what potential new customers are suppose to think?

That it’s not going to cost up to $100 for them to play what has, for me, a kitten fun game? Entry barriers and all that. It also didnt imply anything of that sort. What’s being offered now is essentially no different than the bundle packs they have for the gw1 campaigns. The FAQ has also not substantially changed. The answer still is “yes, you need to own the core game.” It’s also been what? 6 months since they announced the expac? It’s unfortunate, but it’s simply another affirmation that kitten goes wrong, stuff changes, new information is found, etc, and all of that affects the plans laid out by Anet (I’m looking at you pre-crafting crybabies). In that time, something influenced anet’s decision to price/bundle it the way they did. Likely the fact that other games, when releasing their expansions, still require you to buy the base game and all other expacs if you didnt already buy them, the cost adding up very quickly.

While you arent disputing the cost, it does seem like some people want to demean the expac value in any way they can to get Anet to drop the cost.

2- use the HoT code on your current account, and therefore losing part of the product you are paying for;

What, exactly, are you paying for and losing out on? Now, before you answer, I’ll just reiterate that anet staff have repeatedly stated that with, or WITHOUT the core game included, you’d be needing to fork out $50 for the expac.

Whether HoT is worth $50 with or without the base game is irrelevant, when you buy any version of HoT you gain the core game “free”, but you cannot use said “free” core game whatever way you so wish, you can’t apply HoT to your current account and keep the “free” core game as a mule account, you can’t gift it to a friend, your only option is to have a new account with HoT or no new account at all. Do you understand now?

  • Just to make something clear, i have no problem paying $50 for HoT, some ppl might but i don’t, my problem is that part of what they’re offering is not being fully given out to me because i’m not a new player.

You already have the core game available. Thus you are not losing out on anything because the inclusion of the core game was never aimed at you in the first place. Rather, it’s just misplaced outrage from current players who have a false concept about how because the core game is being bundled (mainly because it’s NOT being offered separately anymore) with the expac, they’re somehow owed something beyond the expac. Despite the fact they’ve been playing the core game for up to 3 years.

You also have to take into account the “condensed” scale of the game. something like The Grove to LA by foot or carriage would likely take several days or weeks, not the 5-10 minutes our characters can do it in. I’d probably venture that the maps themselves are condensed by 100:1 or higher.

There’s feedback, and then there’s kitten-flipping. After the preorder announcement, it’s been mostly kitten-flipping, not an ounce of feedback.

Why ask when anet gave, is giving, and will continue to give info about what’s in the expac?

That would be nice, were it actually true. It isn’t.
Unless, of course, you think silence is golden.

And that’s just information from yesterday. Makes you look foolish blindly posting, doesnt it?

You do realize that if people posted with reasoning and logic more often, they’d likely post more often? It’s often such vitriol and hate that keeps them AWAY from the forum unless they’ve got thick skin, love trouncing liars, or dont mind having an engaging discussion (John Smith squarely fits all 3 of those).

Here's EXACTLY what happens everytime.

How is it dubious? If anything it’s a sane business practice. With the expac coming out, it’s idiocy to continue selling just the base game by itself, then require them to pay yet again for the expansion. If it’s really that much of a problem for you, go to Anet, ask for a refund, watch as they close your account, and then go buy it with the refund. Otherwise you’re demanding Anet reduces the price below what they established (they’re a business, not a charity people) as the standard, with no justification.

And frankly, there’s no way to justify demanding they reduce the price when all the information isnt even out yet, and it’s on preorder status. Maybe not even after all the info’s out.

People are bashing the suits in charge of this mess.
Devs/artist are NOT the suits/corporate higher ups…
This all falls on their shoulders and nobody elses. What should have been a very eventful week for GW2 at E3 turned into a mess with this PR disaster.

How in the hell do you already plan out and launch options for pre purchase when there is no release window yet for the xpac and more than half the freaking details are missing? Its just terrible PR on their end…this is what you get when you screw over 99% of the playerbase thats actually going to BUY the xpac…
New players are completely going to be a minority case in buying the xpac.

Maybe there IS a release date? Ever think of that? It’s a release date they arent going give us until it’s something more certain than taxes or death. Why? People acting like the way you are. People flip kitten so hard over the stupidest things. Like rangers being a crap class. Like LS1 “ruining” LA (it was a kittenty place to begin with guys). Like precursor crafting was promised, verbatim, in 2013 or some such. Like Anet offering presales before all the information is out.

Peruse the forums with some detachment once in a while. It aint hard to see why people like John Smith are the only redposters outside of updates like next week’s.

Yesterday I pre-purchased the expansion. I bought it on an impulse (as your shareholders were hoping for) because hype. Today I realized that I don’t know enough about the expansion to know if it is really worth the price. I’m excited for the expansion, but is it large enough to justify the price? From what was revealed so far, it looks more like a very large feature pack than an actual expansion. It feels we got a lot more content for free from the living world content, so HoT needs to be at least a little bigger than living world, and so far it doesn’t look like it will be.

Would it be at all possible to get a refund/account roll back to 2 days ago? If it’s not possible it’s fine, I just thought I’d ask. It is not that I am having financial troubles, I just got my head out of my kitten and realized that I don’t know enough about the expansion to justify the cost. EotN was huge and there was a lot of info about it available before release. HoT, not so much.

Keep in mind a refund will potentially entail your account being closed if you’ve already redeemed the serial key.

Concerning damage modifiers.

Been looking through all the changes to trait lines and it got me wondering about the inconsistency of dmg mods. So would love some info as to how this was done and “balanced”, is it based on sustained dps for pve, based on pvp/www burst or what?

Some classes have pretty much kept there dmg mods, other’s have even gotten more and some have lost upwards of 20-30%. In my eyes it just seems very unbalanced for certain classes.
I play all classes except warrior, and looking through these changes im kinda worried, not just based on dmg mods ofc but of the general risk/reward balance after the patch.

Not gonna start listing classes/traits etc, gonna hold out for the patch and test it first
But some clarification on dmg mods would be nice.

This is what I want to know too. The vuln changes were in a good direction, but it’s still going to be kittenty if traits like Close to Death or Modified Ammunition (if they remain after next week) still only affect physical damage when they should be affecting both damage types.
