My own thief Was fun enough to get me to 80 and still play it actively helping guildies etc.
I went Dual pistols and Pistol/dagger, but obviously in your case You’ll go Short bow for your main ranged.
I only use the steal function for two things. To close with an enemy when I’ve been held/rooted and to avoid red circles of death and close with an enemy…I guess that’s really 1.5 reasons.
I use caltrops a lot and dagger storm often preceded by black powder(becomes blinding thrown daggers) and during I trigger a poison of your choice.
It’s not remotely stealthy, tends to draw a lot of aggro, but it is fun to melt a group of blinded, crippled, poisoned and bleeding mobs. I count on dodge and caltrops to eveade. Haven’t bothered with much of the stealth abilities.
Yeah It’s not super optimised, but it’s been fun.
Support wise I mostly rely on the superior water sigil in one of my close in weapon sets. As it heals the folks near me during criticals.

My own guess is no. They haven’t made feast recipes for any of the limited time event recipes. For instance ice cream from Wintersday or the various glazed recipes dependent on candy corn glaze from Halloween.
My thoughts for their reason are that;
1) It would be unfair for folks and new guilds etc. buying the game after the event when special ingredients are no longer there. That is less true for the Molten recipes which I think took all standard ingredients just in larger amounts.
2) The special occasion recipes have longer durations than other food and when a feast is created it doubles the duration. They(Arena Net) seem comfortable with food buffs lasting an hour or less, probably for balance reasons. The Halloween recipes in feast form would be 1.5 hours and the Molten recipes would be 2 hours in feast form. If they limit them to an hour in length it sort of nerfs the recipes value gain as feasts.
Those reasons aside I’d have no problem with them being 1 hour in feast form, but I’m sure other folks would complain. I find the ability of a feast to feed a large group of folks is it’s main advantage not it’s increased duration, which is STILL very nice.

I still haven’t finished all the dungeon content, But I would say more of the other stuff I do. Guild events, search out vistas in regions I haven’t spent much time in, help guildies out on their personal story stuff, level Alts. Also level a craft I haven’t done yet on an Alt(helps with leveling too). Try to improve on my inability to do jump puzzles.
And honestly there’s no reason not to take a break from PvE and futz around in WvWvW or sPvP or even wait for the new living story chapter to come around.

He must be Vanguard Benni from Ebonhawke’s long lost cousin.
“Excuse me! I need your help!”
No. No you don’t, because generally when I click on you you have nothing to tell me that needs done!
/is it a crime to stab a vanguard soldier if he’s driving folks away from the bank and trader merchants?
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
Also I’d recommend asking in your guild chat if anyone has GW1. You may be surprised how much help you’ll be offered. Having another human with you who already has the map opened can greatly speed your exploration and it doesn’t hurt if they offer a free gold level weapon or two.
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
On an overflow server you are getting the kind of people who actively seek out events. While most GW 2 players are friendly it’s probably especially true of people who seek out new group type events.
As for my Server I find plenty of polite, kind generous type folks on Jade Quarry. Surprising as that may be to our WvW opponents.
/n.b. I mostly play PvE for all I know our WvW folks even friendlier.
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
My opinion is a half-way type thing. I say level new characters of your own. Keep the new level 80 guy and use him in WvWvW. You won’t miss out on any story with him that way and you can have some fun in PvP
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
Obviously I can’t speak for all of Jade Quarry or even all of JQ North America. I’m one of those PvE folk who stumble around WvWvW sometimes adding to the zerg. I haven’t been logging on nearly as much as normal due to it being spring and having tons of kitten to do outside clearing the yard etc.
I bet a number of other JQ folk in the northern hemisphere are distracted by the springtime stuff you have to do whether it’s yard work, college finals/graduation/job hunt or other stuff I haven’t mentioned. Why BG has it’s folks more heavily online I can’t guess but maybe they have more excitement about finally taking 1st with a good chance to hold it.
Lately I only log on for PvE daily and half my guilds weekend events.

“friend” X is an untrustworthy person who you should drop as a friend. He probably can’t be trusted with stuff in real life either. “friend” y who alledgedly took all the risks and less than half the goods is apparently an idiot. Worse an idiot without convictions. I suspect he’ll come to a bad end just through natural selection.
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
It’s a cool vanity item. I don’t feel it’s overpriced maybe just “under-useful”. I buy my gathering tools at the laurel vendor. They basically amount to free as far as I’m concerned. YMMV I likely won’t buy one, but someone who values laurels more highly than I do probably has a different opinion. Doesn’t mean one of us is wrong and the other right. We could both be right.

Also Feel free to join groups for events people often ask in map chat. Look around when are near group events if you see a lot of different people on a regular basis who are in the same guild ask if you can join them. A good active guild makes it a lot more fun. Gives you a good source of “how-to” help and they often will have cool guild events going on.
Other general things to do:
Gather everything you can. Sell what you won’t use for crafting on the trade post. e.g. if you decide to level cooking you can freely sell metals, cloth, jewels and wood. If you aren’t leveling cooking some items sell very well at the low levels like chili peppers.
When you complete hearts that are in the water or near it see if the heart vendor sells an upgraded breathing mask. I’ve known folks who never upgraded it and did just fine, but for a bit of karma points it’s worth upgrading it every 15 levels or so. Also if the heart vendor sells food materials in Bulk form and you think cooking will be your crafting choice buy a bulk pack or two to save you time later.
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
One quick suggestion. If your 58 has a lot of karma and you plan on leveling your replacement partly with cooking. Buy all the Bulk packs of karma sold food you can find around the map and put in your material bank. Also spend the karma on any other non bound stuff. You may as well get something from the karma.

In all the games with mounts I’ve played(WoW, Rift, AOC, SWTOR), mounts were just a gold sink. In the end it just seemed to increase business for the gold sellers. I really don’t feel a need for one , But hey if it’s non-combat, non-speed increasing(or at least non-PvP map appearing) and doesn’t appear in town I say sure let the folks who want it have one.

I usually use larger mice like the older Razer mice, but for a while I used a small laptop desk and a Razer Pro Click v1.6 due to the limited space I had available. It was a mouse styled for Macs and aimed at the business CAD market I think. Worked fine for gaming for me. Not too many extra buttons though, but good response and accuracy.

I bought two of the off of Woot, but lost one while moving and gave the other to a friend of mine whose daughter needed a mouse sized well for he smaller hands.

Heh. I had no idea how rare they were until last weekend while helping with a guild mission I harvested a passiflora node and got one. I asked if any guildies wanted it and everyone told me to sell it because they are expensive.
I skipped Karka land on release and have only farmed maybe 7 nodes lifetime there. I guess RNG was kind to me. I think I’ll quit while ahead with my 1 in 7. Since most times it seems 1 in 200 is more common.
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
I use Fraps for the bits and pieces of guild event footage I take. Due to limits of my system I record in 1/2 screen resolution which winds up about 840×525 so The recording doesn’t drop me into slide show mode. Added benefit is it displays my Frames per second on screen while running even if not recording.
A suggestion regardless of what software you choose is to use an external drive or a second internal drive. eSATA or Firewire seem to work best. Though I hear good things about USB 3.0 drives. Of course internal will likely be SATA so a second SATA drive should also record smoothly. Do NOT record the files to the same drive that you are running the game off of nor the one your operating system is running from. If you do you will see performance drop to a crawl.

I like the elimination of the trinity. I played a number of the simpler trinity based games and after a while I realised I wasn’t seeing a complex computer game it was more like playing Angry birds or some of the other games on handheld platforms…you know single button mash games for phones. I got tired of the stare at the health bars of party member game, The wear out my “1” on my number pad game and the Fill my screen with the enemy while tapping 2 buttons and some dude screams in my ear over Vent or Team Speak.
If you enjoy the trinity no one forces you to play a non-trinity game.
/Sort of like many Slackware users LIKE the lack of automatic dependency management(some even see it as a way to filter out annoying folks) I wouldn’t ask P.V. to add dependency management to it, I’d just use OpenSuSE or Fedora or some such.

I was going to run it through Google translate, but I didn’t know what language to choose for the “from” part.

I can only speak to cooking and even then there are likely others who can post more coherently than me about it.
Tip 1 Gather everything as you travel regardless if it is used by your chosen craft.
Tip 2 sell stuff you don’t use on the trader you’ll have plenty of use for the proceeds
Tip 3 When you complete a heart see what the person with the heart sells. If it’s bulk food for karma(and you’re a cook) buy 2 or 3 baggies of it.
Tip 4 Right click and send to deposit stuff your craft uses as you adventure and harvest.
General stuffs
Crafting is done at specific tables. Mostly in the racial capitals, but also at a few scattered places like the main village in the 1-15 zone and a few other spots like the Hylek village at the Astrozintli Forelands in Spark fly Fen or EbonHawke in Fields of Ruin
You get some starting recipes when you choose a craft by speaking to a master craftsman NPC for the particular craft. Those recipes appear when you “press F” to use the crafting table for that craft.
Some things like thread for tailors or Sugar , flour, water etc. For cooks must be bought from your master craft guy. Others must be gathered. As you gain crafting levels some items must be created by you or another crafter and combined with base gathered items. Those intermediate items are often cheaper to buy from the trade post than make yourself unless making them would level your crafting. Then it is a wash.
Buying base crafting materials on the trade post is usually very pricey, that is why “gather everything you see” is my advice for when you are exploring.
The quickest crafting experience gain is made from the “discovery tab” directly above the default tab from when you “used” the crafting table.
This tab will show items that can be combined to make recipes you don’t get automatically. Note: they will also show items that can be combined with stuff you don’t have yet. You can either keep trying combinations to discover what you can or “cheat” and hit the wiki to see what those ingredients you are missing are. I rationalize this last bit by figuring it’s like looking at a cook book. What few things I cook in real life were learned from others. I discovered few of my own real life recipes, so in the game I have no trouble checking the wiki for what I lack.
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
They do scale downward I know. For instance a level 60 character eats from a level 80 tray of food will get the same buff as if he had eaten from a tray of level 60 food that gives the same buff. From tray of pumpkin pies(level 55) my 80 just got the usual tray of pumpkin pies buff, not the tray of mango pies buff.
As for best foods it depends on what your group is doing. Omnoms are popular for the loot buf, but I rarely bother with them. I generally go for foods that buff condition duration and damage on my thief and for my mesmer the same alternated with heal buffs depending on whether I am playing more support or damage dealing.
If you mean what earns money best on the trader then it’s best to search consumable master works for tray, feast, basket or “Pot of”(this last is less effective a filter since potions still show up and there are fewer “pot of” recipes) and sort by descending price.
/Note I rarely PvP. I am 95% PvE so your mileage may vary in sPvP and WvWvW

I noticed that with all the recipes based on holiday ingredient drops. No recipe for a tray of Spicy pumpkin cookie(my favorite) or any other holiday ingredient using recipe.
Not sure of Anet’s justification, my own W.A.G. is that since they use materials only available from one, early in the games release, holiday event They didn’t make tray recipes available out of fairness to new customers. Also since tray form doubles the length the food buff lasts that would take it to 90 minutes. Maybe they don’t want buffs lasting that long and didn’t wish to code a special case just for 45 minute foods(I rather doubt this second one, but it could be a reason I suppose).
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
The way I did it on my Chef today was I bought 400 Pumpkin pies on the trader for 2-3 copper each. For less than 9 silver total I crafted 40 trays of pumpkin pies.
Note I already happened to have that recipe from the forge, but there are other low level feast recipes that don’t require a large outlay to get the tray/feast recipe of them.
Feast of clam cakes is a level 25 recipe. Clam cakes themselves sell for 2 copper.
so after mystic forging the feast recipe(a one time expense of 6 skill points for 9 crystals and about 1g60s for 6 bottles of Elonian wine and 17 mystic coins which you likely have from finishing dailies exploring regions etc. ) you’d have to only spend 8silver to buy 400 clam cakes. to do that monthly whenever it comes up. and your left with a bunch of trays that give a +10% MF buff to any who eat at it. Quasi useful even

Trays and feasts?
edit:
Yep made 20 Trays of pumpkin pies for a whopping 6 silvers total cost to buy 200 pumpkin pies off the trade post. Gave me credit for 50% of the monthly master crafter.
Also There are some masterwork dyes, but the component costs are a bit too high for me to make 40 of them. They seem to use karma bought components heavily.
/off to do the rest of them.
//already had the forge recipe so it may be more expensive for you if you don’t have any feast recipes yet

An upgrade to an nVidia 560Ti or 660 Ti will be your best bet. In my use case with a 660Ti my game is CPU bound, but I have a socket 775 Q8400 (2.66Ghz quad core).
You have a better newer processor than I but a much older GPU. so you are correct. New GPU is your best upgrade path at this point.
The SSD upgrade will make general computing feel snappier, but in game terms you will only notice quicker loading times not necessarily any change in FpS

indeed. Because we(JQ) are one monolithic entity. Organising multiple guilds across all timezones to do ANYTHING in an organised fashion is like the proverbial herding cats.

I keep meaning to try it in wine, but haven’t yet. WineHQ DB usually lists it at bronze, though I have in the past seen some “gold and silver” tests.

I usually just filter it by Consumables, level range (e.g. 55-65), blue rarity for single serving and green rarity for group dispensing. Yeah there’s some other stuff in there, but usually a 10 level gap means 2-4 pages of results. Pretty quick to scan down the list and watch tool tips. Even faster if I rank by price.
That’s a work around rather than a solution. But I while the lack of a detailed search is annoying it’s not a big time sync to me.
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
I’d suggest picking a very high pop server and wait for the weekend. I know recently on Jade quarry there is a better than even chance someone will be opening it up during the weekend.

I have a Q8400 2.66Ghz
8GB PC 800 Ram
An nVidia 660Ti
20" monitor 1680×1050
Windows 7 64 bit home
I’m ok with my performance in typical PvE stuff. I generally hover around 30-38 fps
Dragon battles and guild exploring zergs I drop down to about 25-30Fps.
If I engage FRAPS recording(saving to an eSATA drive not the main system drive) I get about 20-27 FpS depending how many players are on the screen.
Note: I haven’t done any WvWvW so Can’t comment on what I’d get there. I suspect probably less than 20 FpS. But one reason I don’t do WvWvW is I fear the slide show I’d get.
With my Socket 775 system I don’t really have anywhere to upgrade without getting an entire new guts for the system. a QX9650 (second best CPU for my socket) isn’t worth the price for me for maybe a 10% gain. I may upgrade to a i7 system next year

Does noone use the wooden barracks amidst Ebonhawke?
If I recall correctly there’s a TP, a bank, and all of the crafting stations directly close to each other, maybe a couple footsteps apart.
I used that on my mesmer till I leveled out of the area. It’s only downside is Vanguard Benis or whatever his name is nagging you every 5 seconds at the Trader or bank, like some crazed homeless person “please help me. I need your help!” Then when you click on him he says he’s going to go take a nap.
Freaking loon.
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
I think these are a forlorn hope. I stockpiled a bunch of candy corn hoping to make these trays, but I can kind of see why there’s no tray.
1) It’s a holiday item. Maybe it repeats next year, maybe they have some other food item for Halloween 2013. In either case it would be “unfair” for folks who joined the game after Halloween 2012.
2) it’s already a 45 minute buff. Tray form would be 1hr 30 minutes. For game balance reasons Anet may not want such an awesome buff to last so long.

I could see skinning for cultural legendary weapons, but not necessarily a change in legendary creation paths for cultural ones. If that makes any sense.
Unrelated to the question at hand, but I misread the title as culinary legendary. I now want legendary food recipes!
? Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
I rather like it being so multi layered. Intermediate ingredients are something I buy from the BLT rather than craft after I’ve discovered them, if needed. Also a lot of recipes have duplicate effects, but I wouldn’t consider it bloat. Different characters starting in different zones may have different ingredients. To me anyway that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
I concentrate on the recipes I want to use though. Other folk who are completionists may find it a bit annoying I suppose.
A final thought is they will be expanding the game. In the case of grapes Maybe we will see more grape involved recipes. We may also see some fish recipes hopefully.
/sushi anyone?
