You’d be surprised how many gamers don’t bother with software firewalls such as zone alarm
Wow .. i remember Zonealarm was popular maybe 15 years ago .. don’t know if it
even still exists.
All in all those firewalls did maybe more harm than that they really helped against
anything.

It just so happens that 3/4 of the top 5 most popular mmorpgs have a subscription.
SWTOR is F2P…
If GW2 went sub, I’d be gone.
Read what I quoted.
“There is only one successful theme park MMO with a sub. I don’t see that changing.”SWTOR has a sub. It does also have a limited F2P option, but it does have a sub.
Nearly all western MMO that went F2P still have an optional subscription model,
however there is only one left that has no F2P option at all.
And no .. playing from 1-20 for free is not F2P.Not sure what this has to do with what I was saying. I was responding to a single post where someone was claiming that only a single mmorpg with a sub is currently successful, which is false, I listed several.
Why do you pretend that FF14 doesn’t exist? FF14 not only exists, but it just so happens to be arguably the 2nd most successful mmorpg on the market.
You said SWTOR .. and SWTOR has just a hybrid model very much like RIFT, EQ2,
LotRO, Tera, Champions Online and most other western MMOs.
For FF14 .. don’t know .. for me that is somehow more an asian MMO and i never
really heared much of it here outside of this forum. We could also talk then maybe
about Lineage and Aion ..

Everyone needs to keep in mind that the following 3 World Bosses are in STARTER zones, Fire Elemental, Jungle Wurm and Shaman/Maw, even though those rotate through on the Level 80 dailies, in essence they’re still starter zone bosses and are designed accordingly, so don’t expect changes anytime soon!
cough Shadow Behemoth cough
Even if they are designed accordingly to zone doesn’t mean that they could be changed.
Behemoth is good example. With Megaservers changes, he is no longer 10sec boss and people with all levels can do it. I know that Anet’s primal stuff is HoT now, but they could change some things in “Vanilla” content.
Behemoth is only plain annoyong now .. the only thing the last rework did is that
people that are late have a chance now to hit him. Else another endless wait now
for some people do the portals.
Perfect low level worldboss for me is still Maw Shaman since the pre-events just
lead directly to him without taking forever, and so there are not masses of people
waiting at the boss forever while 3-4 people do the pres.
And the 5 minute wait at fire elemental is really the worst of all. But maybe they
can also implement an ice-wall there on that we can shoot 10 minutes with
charzookas .. that will make it really great of course.

They only ask people with weak security to change it. I have never once been asked by the game so it is not a problem of needing to change often as Eeone seems to think is happening. If you really thing password spelt backwards is good, well best of luck.
Yeah .. that also seems right .. i had only to change it once over 2 years ago i think.
I just also thought about some idiotic policies in our company where we have
to change passwords each months .. while on my / our webserver that is not
part of the AD i already use the same password over 15 years .. lol
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Forced change-password policies add little security (and might even be detrimental).
The more passwords you force people to use the lesser the quality of said passwords.Humans can only remember a few and forcing multiple changes just leads to password re-use or using very, very simple ones.
The exception of course is those who use password managers (or have exceptional memory). However in these cases they are probably already using a unique & complex password in which case a forced change really is pointless unless gw2 had their servers breached.
^^ Mostly this.
It also leads to using the same passwords that you already used elswhere, and that
is the real problem in the internet .. not how “secure” a password is.

- character modell limit / detail
- reflections – set them to sky and terrain

Something to keep in mind: The perceived “size” of a virtual world is directly proportional to how long you are forcibly traveling from A to B.
The faster, the smaller the world will feel, independent of displayed size.

Off meaning inaccurate. All values are within a couple of minutes of 20:37 UTC. Remember the rates are shifting all the time.
Gold to Gem rate per 100 gems.
GW2TP – 17.12g
GW2Spidy – 18.64g
The API – 17.69g
In Game Exchange – 17.50g (when converting 100 gems)Gem to Gold rate per 100 gems.
GW2Spidy – 11.26g
The API – 12.60g
In Game Exchange – 12.50g (when converting 18g)So the question is who do you use, who is more accurate when looking up rates.
In the end i just look at gw2tp for the graph to see the history that we no longer
have directly ingame. Then if i see gems price is down i check it directly ingame
to see what 1000 gems cost.

I actually wish they’d just increase everyones’ movement by 25% and remove all the signets and passives that raise movement.
I agree with you. I think that the fact we have to either buck up oodles of gold for a not really useful rune to increase run speed, or use skills or traits to not be a turtle, is just silly.

So far I’ve only seen the Sons of Svanir do it, and it only seemed to happen to them when you’re attacking them from a distance. So I assume the “moonwalk away from you” thing is some sort of bug.
Looks also like a bug to me. Especially when you see them from the distance and
some of them walks 3-4 steps forward and then 3-4 back again all the time.
However, some Dredge do that already for longer that they sometime run away
for some steps. Also seperatists i think and maybe bandits .. not sure.

Games with good graphics attract players. I know the FPS Crysis is on the other end of the gaming spectrum, but it’s the best example I can think of. Crysis 3 plot is simple/crappy/cliché/uninteresting, yet people play these type of games mosty because of the graphics quality. Let’s face it, these type of games(Battlefield,Crysis, etc) are not know because of the plot or the futuristic game mechanics (lol), it’s the graphics quality that makes people want to try them out.
AION has shown the best however that you can’t compare MMOs with other games.
They used the CryEngine and the lag in massive fights was horrible.

I really hate to advertise other games in this forum, so just watch some youtube clips and see it for yourself. All I want is for my PC to be used at its fullest potential. It barely heats up in Gw2 … that basically means that it is idling at this game….
I watched a 30 minutes WvW video from TESO and personally it just looked horrible
to me. Maybe they had better textures, but i really don’t care about that if its just
50 shades od brown, and player characters that run around like zombies.
And for the FPS .. i still have for example 50-70 FPS when doing pre-quests for the
Svanir Shaman .. but the FPS go down when the actual fight begins. So its not
simply the rendering of all those character, but either effects in the fight, or
data that is been sent from and to the client about all that stuff that slows
down the FPS.
Sometimes stuff slows down performance that people don’t really see. I remember
when devs in SOE explained why we had a questlog limit of 70, because for every
step we go the server has to check your total questlog to see if you maybe just
discoverd something … or in AoC somebody wrote how much traffic was generated
from stuff that was thrown away onto the ground ..

Well, some of us did try to tell them it was a bad idea, but evidently once they set a course they can’t change it until they reach their destination or hit an iceberg, whichever comes first, and so most of S1 remains vanishware, except for bits and pieces stuck in the fractals dungeon thing.
They did, however, make S2 permanent, even if new players will have to pay extra to experience it.
For me it was not a bad idea. It was at least a living world .. now we have the same
static world like every other MMO.
S2 is just another Personal Story that plays in an instanced parallel universe but
doesn’t change the real world (yeah i know there are some Tendrils and destroyed
waypoints still in Timberline Falls in LA)
I personally at least spent much much more time in LS1 than in L2 content.

How old are your lan drivers ? I remember having trouble like that years ago
with old driver under Win-XP. After updating LAN drivers problem was solved.
Rebooting your router can also sometimes help with instable internet connections.
Also auto-update functions of routers can sometimes make trouble, so its better
to disable them.

I never stated TESO has Dx 12. No current game has Dx 12 for the obvious reason that the SDK is not out yet.
Yeah .. but since the talk here is all about that we need DX12 because better performance
and then you bring TESO as an example for better performance, it sounds as if DX12
would be the reason.
I don’t know how the performance of TESO really is, however if it is really better
ist maybe also better in DX9, and that has maybe just because they use very
clunky animations, and there is not much eyecandy there, why GW2 has often
simply an effect overkill.
DX11 in LotRO was also worse than DX9 when i tested it, and i switched back
to DX9 after very short time.

Its terrible business decision not to improve your game performance. I’m sorry but lets face it, Gw2 is not the only kid on the block. New games pop up all the time, MMOs at that too, supporting new technology, utilizing everything you have. People are a lot more likely to give up a lagging game, regardless of quality. See, I’m eyeing Black Desert, because it looks dope and runs buttery smooth. I’m eyeing Star Citizen. I’m quite tempted to pick up TESO even though I despise ZOS for what they did to the franchise just because the game supports – wait for it – ……… massive battles on an acceptable framerate. Find people who have played both Gw2 and TESO and ask them which WvW was more enjoyable.
Most of the games are just another generic Asia Grinder 4711 with Unreal Engine
or whatever .. and they look nice in all those videos, and after playing them
2 hours you are already bored to death.
TESO has by the way NO DX12 .. and DX11 is often worse performance wise than
DX9.

It shouldn’t be about standing around at the next spawn waiting for it to spawn. It should be about going about your own business and OMG WHAT IS THAT COMING OUT OF THE SWAMP?!
It shouldn’t be about going on a website and finding out when and where the next boss spawns. It should be about the boss pre-event is up spread the word.
It shouldn’t be about following the order listed on the website. It should be about “what? Karka, Shatter, and SB events are all spawned at once?”.
Mix it up, shake it up, make it unpredictable, make players have to choose, etc.
That is, of course, if they insist on leaving it an open world event.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. With the personal story you go to some point on the map and click on some green marker which puts you in an instance portion of the map.
These world bosses would be way better as raid bosses where you form a raid group, click on the map marker and face the boss in an instanced portion of the map.
So in open world its bad to have timers .. but have instanced bosses where they
are there all the time whenever you want them is ok ?
Personally i hate raids but i like open world bosses. The only problem is that
the Megaserver simply brings to much people to those events. But instanced
raids is not the solution .. at least not EQ2 style raids.
Thing is .. open world events prevent you from all the dram you have in instanced
content .. exp, zerk only, gearcheck or kick .. blabla ..

Face it, if 90% of games available require powerful GPU, and only Gw2 requires powerful CPU, where do you think 90% of people will invest more money at? Especially after the bullkitten Intel pulls with each generation, having to upgrade the motherboard to upgrade the CPU. Fun times.
I guess those 90% are all single player games, or at least not MMOs, since all MMOs
i ever played needed mostly CPU power and less GPU.

Wish we could get some words from ANet on this topic, but that is unfortunately their weak side, communication.
I’ve seen MMO companies that are easier “persuaded” to add a new feature than ANet to answer on a request. What should they say ?
If they say NO they will be flamed.
If they say YES they will be flamed if they don’t give a date, or if they give a date
they will be flamed if it is not ready at that time. They can’t win no matter what they do.
Saying “We plan on adding DirectX12 support” would be just enough. DX12 isn’t even out yet officially, so there is no point in saying anything else or give any dates, because for sure not even the devs would know at the moment.
However, saying that DX12 is being considered would certainly help a lot.
You remember the precursor hunt ? If they say they add it it would be much
the same for the next 1-2 years or how long ever it will take.

WoW managed to make the jump from DX9 to DX11 so I don’t know why GW2 can’t do the same, I gained 25fps when Blizzard updated their engine and client to 64bit. It would be a massive improvement to the game.
Always funny those “even WoW did it”. Sounds as if Blizzard is a poor

If even WoW can do it, YOU can do it also .. just buy ANet, implement DX12 and
then give it free to us all .. its really easy as that if even Blizzard can do it

Your question caught me off guard
It got me thinking though: Isn’t it strange that flight is highly requested across MMOs and underwater is almost equally hated, yet they’re so mechanically similar in a lot of games?
Mostly flight is only requested for travelling. I remember the aerial combat in
Perfect World International was also totally annoying .. and in Champions Online
there was also not really much aerial combat on land .. so Lemuria was in the end
the only zone with 3D fights.
Also there are always people asking for underwater zones in MMOs .. however
i never really understand them after all i have experienced with that.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I’m a big fan of water combat and I hate to see it go. I feel that it’s getting a bad rap due to the inconsistent implementation. Hopefully, they can revisit water combat in the future and give it the attention it needs in order to thrive.
Do you know any MMO with good underwater combat ? I remember in EQ2 it
was horrible especially as thief classes wo needed to use stuns and then get
behind mobs .. what simply didn’t work under water.
In Champions Online, that had maybe the best underwater combat imho, since it
was exactly like fighting when flying on land, even there most players totally hated
the underwater zone Lemuria.
And in GW2 i think the whole slow movement problem underwater will always
be a problem .. much as the problem with thieves in EQ2.
