We agree. There were some PvP-only changes for professions that made sense in a previous meta, but not so much now. I expect we’ll be looking very closely at some of these skills over the next few weeks.

I can understand why e.g. Mug cant crit in PvP, but why may it also not crit in PvE?

No, sry but the stealth is the problem, not the traits.
And your suggestions to this mechanic dont make it better, it just destroy it.
They should better rework stealth.
So that it run longer, e.g. 8 Secs (10s with MwS) + a 100% chance to get the Revealed effect (for min 5s), after the stealth, not only if you hit someone.
Because the currently form of stealth is to strong, you can use it to much, while the duration is to short to enable a sneak like gamestyle.
No more PvE thiefs exist ?

Hardmode? Use only lvl 5 gear + no traits and you have your hardmode.

As an example, in a 15 second fight, Healing Surge provides ~660 “HPS”, while Signet still provides ~400.
Pls, show us your calculation of this.
Why should a field break the stealth? This is irrational.
My fix wish for 2014:
Stealth [to short duration and to excessive use];
Survivability [nonexist without stealth]
Acrobatic skilltree [useless],
Movement[to slow for the fastest class];
Steal [to weak],
Thieves need effective builds outside of stealth(spamming).
They should really rework the thief class, but at first the stealth mechanic.
It’s makes many classes to strong in this configuration and I dont talk only about thieves in this context, more about mesmers and partly engineers.
Stealth should be more stronger and longer but less usable.
Then comes the thief.
I believe I have never seen a class with so many useless skills and very high CDs.
The venoms and traps are to weak, just like the generally survivability.
Thiefs need urgent a weaponset to counter boonbunkers and LS (S/D) is currently to bad and have to get a buff. Why not this weaponset? Just remove the steal from LS and reduce slight the dmg of this skill, but add a dmg multiplicator for every boon on the enemy, e.g. + 10%/boon.
Also the dmg in the pve, must be one of the worst in relation to their deff ( + support).
Have you ever looked in the acrobatic tree? The traits are so bad, that there is no reason to use them.
To spam stealth is currently the only reason, which hold thieves in this game.

When I play sPvP, and I do it very often, then I see more Engis, Nekro or Warriors and most no thiefs except me.
I am talking about today only post-patch.
This information wasn’t within your post.
But why do you talk only about today, if your title is “sPvP rammed with thieves”?
These title descriptive a regular status and no snapshot of one day.
And btw. one day after a classupdate has no validity to the other days

Says the thief, that probably uses Basilisk to set up his stealth BS. Hammer warrior was far from OP, blind,stun breakers, stability,chill, and learning to dodge roll > a Hammer War. I see the current trend A-net is on, nerf things cause people cant learn to counter it.. We’ll all except their precious thief.

The hammer is a CC weapon. If you want to do dmg then use the GS.
Its stupid to think, all weapons are just created for dmg.
Massive dmg + massive cc’s dont fits together, accept it.
Mesmers are currently the better thieves. :/

13% of all character, who was created are thieves, no more, no less.
I would say max 1% in this game are active thieves, tending downwards.
+33% are not “tiny”.

I just think initiative has made it too hard to balance the thief. Consequently any change you make either op’s it or nerfs it. Since anet don’t seem to want to buff/change the functionality of the thiefs abilities, most changes are nerfs.
Correct. The currently Ini system is very hard to balance, but that is the reason for the ini change at 10 Dez. The balance between builds with and without Initraits (especially Opportunist) is to difficult.
But generally: The inisystem is fine and make the class to something special in this game.

That argument doesn’t hold.
Not every thief use daggers in the mainhand and BP is useless if player or monster play Ping-Pong (CC’s) with you or use range and aoe attacks.

Add Fleet of Foot: The conditions will now be removed at the beginning of the dodge roll instead of at the end. This trait will now only go on cooldown when crippled or weakness is removed.

Nope, it’s more a bugfix.
Dont forget the warrior, domey and their T1 trait that give them permaswift.
Why dont have the “fastest” class this trait?
They haven’t ruined the game. they’ve balanced it so that all players can enjoy it. Most thieves still enjoy their thief and will continue to enjoy playing it long after the December 10th patch. As anet said, the init change is a massive buff. You should trust them.
I sometimes wonder if you even play a thief since you don’t make sense most of the time. Initiative change is a buff for certain very specific builds. It is not a massive buff for all as you say.

Can be, but the Nerfs was more massive, so it’s equally a nerf of the class
its def not a massive buff. only 1 or arguablle 2 builds get buffed. the rest are str8 up hosed. opportunist alone makes up for the init regen. meld in shadows (2init on stealth) is WAY more than what we are getting back in regen. then theres all the other nerfs to go along with it too.
what they should do is make it so only the first WEAPON SKILL that enters you invis….gives stealth. if i have to waste shadow refuge…..i expect antoher 2 init for a 60 second cooldown. without that the trait isnt worth taking.
Opportunist is overrated. Two of my third builds dont use it and I never had problems with my ini.

In WvW i can agree with you, but in sPvP/tPvP that is not true. Avoiding a stomp in sPvP and tPvP for some more seconds could be the time your team need to ress you. Warrior its the worst of all in that case.

Ok I had forget vigor, but I talk more about the thief and his role as a debuff and antibunker class.
As a boon steal it’s a bit crippled compared to most others. But in combination with Daze on Steal it becomes an instant 1-button Stability stomp counter, which is very powerful, especially considering with that trait setup it comes with a 21.5s cooldown.
Ding ding! We have a winner. Main reason I run it.
More the only reason to use it.
Actually, mesmers have a better and stronger steal skill than thieves and this without 20 traitpoints. It were enough could we steal (more) boons with their full duration, only to be more an effective class against boonbunker.
Never said warrior is the worst class. All i play is warrior. Warriors have become the weakest class in the game and it is outrageous.
If you only play the warrior, so how will you know how the others are?

This is normal.
In my eyes is BT the weakest skill that steal something and unlike Arcane Thievery, have the stealing boons from BT (and FS) only a duration of ~5 secs.
tl;dr: Warriors are UP and need some serious buffs, duh!

Warriors are a class with a massive dmg output, tons of cc, very strong deff + the highest lifepool and only with his skills, faster than every other class.

To have a thief is not the same like to play a thief
Instead of RNG, it would be better, if Hard to Catch scan the area on enemies, before the effect trigger and teleport you in the opposite direction.
Or Hard to catch should be a Stunbreaker, something what thiefs have to less.
My point is how the original opportunist + base regen = 80 initiative per minute, new system = 60 initiative/minute. As far as I’m concerned why is ANet nerfing our pve aspect, then thrashing our traits and weapon sets to kitten in PvP?
original opportunist + base regen =
18 initiative per minute ( 1 every 3,3 secs) + 45 initiative per minute = 63 initiative
new opportunist + base regen =
6 initiative per minute (1 every 10 secs) + 60 initiative per minute = 66 Initiative
And if you think it will give more initiative to weapon sets, that’s completely and utterly wrong. S/P, PP, Shortbow, S/D instant nerf for critical line. There’s NO way other lines in the new system can output more initiative than the old critical lines.
I have never used Opportunist and dont need it to have always a high inipool, that mean opportunist cannot be so strong.
I think the thief have very low condition remove in the acrobatic traitline, especially underwater, and the “fastest class” could need a little more speed, without to have to use his inis or signets.
So my suggestion for this or one of the next patches is:

For what, it is simple math.
With 100% critchance, trigger opportunist average 1 time every 3,3 seconds. this were 3,3 inis in 10 secs, the same value, like the improved ini reg. gives you in 10 secs.
And lesser critchance means less inis from opportunist.
The increase of the Ini reg. is much stronger than every nerf, from the signets, Quick Recover and Opportunist, together.

The main problem with berserker gear is, that it scales to good or rather the rest to bad.
Berserker scales so good that 5 people as fullberserker, prevent more dmg than support or deff builds/gears.
