I have maxed out at 12k damage in SPvP with cluster bomb
Let’s dissect this to the extreme. Berserker Scholar Thief running the most damage Dealing Spec of Da/CS/DD with a force Sigil and full Blood lust against let’s say an Elementailist at 45% health so the thief has executioner.
This uses perfect conditions with hitting at Max weapon Damage with every modifier available for damage against a Pure glass Ele.
(1000*2625*1.45)(2.4999*1.2*1.1*1.1*1.1*1.07*1.07*1.05)/1888=9,673.36
So 2.4k away from 12k on the lowest armor with no damage reduction modifiers factored in which are thrown around PvP like no other between Bulwark Gyro, Prot and Frost Aura.
Now even if the Assassins Signet is used it would bump that up to 11,124, again on a pure glass non meta build with every damage modifier and max Blood Lust stacks against a pure glass Ele……
Now let’s say you had full Might as well as the calculations above with Assassins Signet.
(1000*3,375*1.45)(2.4999*1.2*1.1*1.1*1.1*1.07*1.07*1.05)/1888=14,302.76
Hey look we got over the 12k in a perfect bubble with perfect conditions on a pure glass…..
What if SA had a trait that gave 20% damage to any attack made while in stealth?
In other words completely cheese out SA and make DA redundant, this would be sooo bad for thief how many more brain cells do thieves need to lose now?
And as for OP this would really kitten me off with constant reveals and unintended stealth.
It wouldn’t make DA Redundant and it would open up underused trait lines to being more widely used since SA is the only trait line without a damage modifier, there are a lot of restrictions on using stealth from Reveal on attack to Aoe reveals, it wouldn’t make anything more brain dead but would give an incentive to use SA. DA has a lot more than just Executioner which needs the target to be at 50% hp or less, I would tak DA for Panick Strike alone.
Thieves do provide break at support and I know my guild requires a Thief on certain fights. Yes we could do with more group support but we do have some that is viable.
Well I can understand why Ferocious Strikes doesn’t, it only affects Critical Damage and Condis can’t crit.
I don’t know why exposed weakness doesn’t.
1. Make Rewards be SKINS not actual ITEMS so PVE’ers who dont care about PVP will not be so tempted.
2. Remove the multi class profession achievements.
3. Remove Tier and division safety nets. Thanks
Why do PvP players have to be second class citizens in the regards to getting items as rewards? A lot of PvP players do other parts of the game. Why should Pve have all/most Legendaries?
I don’t understand this logic.
You can/should get rewards in both PvP/PvE/WvW…how one chooses to get them is entirely up to them. Everyone should be able to get what they like in multiple ways (even if it’s just for the skin instead of the actual item). No need to seclude a playerbase by introducing super exclusives.’
Especially in PvP where how you LOOK doesn’t do anything.
There should always be exclusive rewards to different gamemodes, it adds diversity and shows what you did to get those items, and currently Pve is the main offender of having the most amount of exclusive items.
I don’t understand why people want there to be no exclusivity/reward separation between game modes, these items shows what 1 person did to acquire them, i.e. Be it the Ascension where you had to slug through the Seasons or the Ad Infinitum where people had to grind fractals. And since from the very core of the game each game mode had exclusive items and still does it is healthy.
and how you look doesn’t do anything at all in any game mode, Pvers shouldn’t feel like they need to do PvP for a Backitem since they already have the equivalent.
Right now the only time I see people complain about these rewards are Pve players that don’t want to do the content that the exclusive items are in, to some extent WvW players do it but that is because they have next to no actual rewards compared to Pve which is actually understandable.
What if SA had a trait that gave 20% damage to any attack made while in stealth?
There is another mechanic that doesn’t let an attack through: blind. Necromancers got alot of these. And many other tools except just “health” to stay alive. Thats for the first point.
Oh really. Tell me all the blinds necros get. Please. There are so many im sure it will be just as many as guard blocks and thief evades and all that other fun stuff too. Go on. Tell me how many blinds necro’s have. Keep in mind, you just said “necro’s have alot of these.”
Let’s see whenever you corrupt fury which can be done with 3 different skills, then there is signet of spite, well of darkness, Nightfall, deathly swarm… And there are a few more….
Because those traits are in power/crit lines.
Potent poison is in DA as is Needle trap and dagger mastery. All of these related to conditions and while Posion on steal can certainly help Power builds, it helps a Condition build more.
He never mentioned those he was referring to the listed examples which are on Crit strikes, the op mentioned only those ones specifically.
Yeah, sometimes I run bewildering Ambush since it doesn’t Proc the Stupid Revenant Passive, the Mesmer Passive and The DH passive as well.
So I have been getting back into roamin WvW a little more than I have been.
Between myself and Eval I have been entertaining a few build Ideas, below will be some that I may plan on trying.
This frost build is using full Marauder’s with Exuberance Runes to attempt at maximizing Vitality and damage. With this build you have 2311 Power 73.57% Crit chance without Fury and 212% Crit Damage on top of 21,325 Hp.
This is more defensive than I have normally built for WvW on a thief but it doesn’t trade much out, with the Food you and Sigil of Strength you will be able to keep decent amount of might stacks on yourself from Crits, with Fury this build will be at 93.57% crit chance.
Build 2
This build is less Using a mixture of Berserker, Assassin’s, Maruader with a splash of Valk’s. This one is lower in stats over all but tries to maximize Crit Damage I still have hesitation with this build it can deal huge burst but with the lower HP and Power/Crit Chance it may not be as consistent as I would like.
2293 Power, 59.1% Crit chance without Fury 79.1with Fury, 234.47% Crit Damage, and 16,715 HP.
If anyone has any advice I am open to suggestions these were just the random early morning musings I had so I probably missed something that could benefit each more.
Here is a Third Build kind of a middle of the road build vs the previous two.
Variant of Build 1
(edited by BlaqueFyre.5678)
Say I run this build, not saying it’s optimal but here we go.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vZAQJAoKWgJMtEQAY3M3BPhtQv0wZoNA-TlBXABCr8Ag9HlYhoHQW1LeWJ4PqoQKAB1ZB-w
And I shadow shot a full Dire Reaper, with 2927 toughness.
(952.5*2532*1.3125)(1.1*1.1*1.07*1.15)/2927=1610.2 rounded up. Non crit.
Now say it was a crit
(952.5*2532*1.3125)(2.1867*1.1*1.1*1.07*1.15)/2927=3,521 rounded up.
Now on top of this good damage you have a 900 range gap closer with a blind that is unblockable. The attack isn’t unblockable- this ability allows you to keep pressure on an opponent while at the same time causing damage mitigation through blind.
Now let’s look at BS
If behind target
(952.5*2532*2.4)(1.1*1.1*1.07*1.15)/2927=2944 rounded down non crit, this skill for max damage needs you have perfect positioning, can cause an internal CD of it whiffs makes for only one chance unless you camp stealth has no other utility.
Crit
(952.5*2532*2.4)(2.1867*1.1*1.1*1.07*1.15)/2927=6438 rounded down still no extra utility and requires positioning behind target and setup to get it off.
If you don’t get the positioning behind the opponent it hits for
1472 rounded down non crit still no utility and for a crit 3219 rounded down.
These calls don’t have any damage mitigation included.
You can’t blot out armor in Pve or WvW at will (WvW will automatically do this in stressed areas where big fights happen) , you can only do that in PvP, as shown in a screenshot I posted,
You can set everyone to greyish pink default armor in pve.
Yes but that does not get rid of the wings or particle effects.
Yes that’s what the entire forum is about… You only mentioned armor and I wanted to clarify that that statement was false.
Yeah I realized I only stated armor in that when I group Particle effects and Backpieces in that overall category.
But it also raises the fact why would someone have to completely trash their visual experience to drop the particles/armor of other characters when all they want are disable Backpieces and Particle effects without impacting the rest of the graphics experience?
(edited by BlaqueFyre.5678)
I fully agree with a slider option or a way to remove backpieces from the game, as long as I can also have a slider option or a way to remove all toons that do not have any flashy legendaries or backpieces. I think it’s fair, no? You get to remove the shinies. I get to remove the non-shinies. I like it when things are fair.
It wouldn’t be removing anyone, for one they are just turning off aspects that degrade their game play. That has no effect on your gameplay. It sounds like you are trying to throw a fit just to throw one.

You can it’s a round about way where you can access HoTM without completing the starter tutorial, I have done it on multiple characters, unless you know how you will have to play the tutorial. The only level 1 helms are the ones from certain classes that get a choice on character creation.

How would people feel if Anet removed visuals from legendaries, chak eggs the bee item and poly luminescence items?
They ruin immersion, hard to see and blah blah blah too? Or do people get to show them off because they’re worth more?
It’s guild wars 2, its a fashion war. If you remove peoples ability to flaunt it here, then there’s another game they can go flaunt it on so to speak.
I see most people arguement is “but i cant see in a JP”….. Have you guys tried like, waiting for the guy with wings to move on? You don’t have to run ontop of a norn with wings to do a JP, you CAN wait for them to move or better yet, zoom all the way in to first person mode and run strait through them….
Again why does it matter if everyone has to see your infusions/Particle effects / ridiculous back piece?
If they added in the options for players to disable those t would have no affect on you, these block more than just JPs, it clutters screens and obscures important visual Queues in WvW against players, it obstructs visuals in boss fights and so on.
Why should players be forced to see these things if they do not want to? What makes you so special to force your decisions and fashion choices on to other players gameplay?
Since these suggestions will not impact you in the slightest if they are implemented.
It honestly doesn’t bother me because I help myself, if someones wings are in the way, I find a way around it.
What I’m saying is, if they add the slider to back packs, it should also apply to legendaries, chak eggs, queen bee and poly luminescence items…
I agree that it should apply to all of those, they have a simpler means already built In which is standard models which they could use for game wide options, even if they separated Particle effects to their own slider and all back items to its own toggle option would work as well.
It would make a lot of people happy.

go to your graphics options and turn the character models at the bottom to low on both settings there.
I want to be play the game on max settings, because I am able to. I don’t want to lower the graphics just because some players want to make the most obnoxious looking characters ever. I rather have an option that remove objects—backpacks in this case—that have started to destroy the awesome and beautiful appearance of the rest of the game.
Backpacks and flashier armours and effects were finer back in the older days (except for the humongous spell effects that were going on in combat) but now flash armours, visual infusions and obnoxiously big backpacks in form of wings have appeared far too much, and just destroys the general feeling of the game world.
then thats your problem. not anyone elses.
And he’s asking for ANet to give him a solution that would work better for him. It’s not like he’s asking for the backpacks he hates to be removed from the game. That would be absurd.
He’s just asking for some means to enjoy the high graphics settings without having to see the backpacks he doesn’t like for whatever reason.
And there are good reasons for there to be a hider. Jumping puzzles in areas with already bad camera angles. People who get literal headaches from a particular backpack. One of the backpacks is just incredibly ugly to them and it ruins their enjoyment of the game.
he does have a option all it does is make all players wear basic realistic armor that keeps immersion. “b-but muh max settings” what? do you like to sit in lions ark and brag about them or something?
That option only works in PvP. It doesn’t work for PvE.
If they do any sort of hide item feature it should be: hide all or hide none. That way no one can argue about what is too “flashy”, “big”, “immersion breaking” etc.
The easiest would be to give PvE the same thing as PvP. I’m also only arguing for it due to the objective reasons: large wings on large Charr, or even just large Charr, make it hard for others to do jumping puzzles when the camera angle is already bad. Not because large wings are out of place in the game.
“only works in pvp” so i can tell youve never used it. because thats false.
For one I have no idea why you are so aggressive against these options being added in, since they do not affect you in the slightest, and two the Standard Model option is only in competitive game mode which is sPvP, while you can lower the Character model quality, it does not remove Back items or weapons the last I checked so you see people running around in Grey default Armor with particle effects and giant back pieces still.
So I ask you why should other players be forced to look at your choices, and conform to what you want graphics wise? Why should they have to lower there game quality because of other players decisions on Armor/Items that provide nothing other than Display clutter and rob them of better performance on their machine?
they are already added in. im not aggressive here im simply stating you dont want to use them because “muh max settings” that only affects other players and puts them all in realistic armor everywhere. someone posted a screenshot of it. your asking to waste dev time on something thats already in the game.
No using the character model quality does not remove legendary armor or Backpieces or their particle effects, why should other players have to lower their gameplay experience because of people like you? The only place that Standar Models removes all Particle effects from items and back items/ Legendaries is PvP no where else.
Lol, what a PC are you running? Even a 8 year old PC can run better settings…
I turned the graphics all the way down to prove to sophiewhite that drop graphics does not remove particle effects or back items from players, I run max Settings normally at over 60 fps with my 6 year old computer running a Radeon 6970. This was solely a demonstration to prove someone was lying about having the option to turn off wings and particle effects outside of PvP matches by turning down graphics.
I would never be able to stand playing with those settings, the only time I even drop to those settings is when I get caught up in a 3 blob fight at SMC.
I want people to see my skins, so I have to -1 this
But those people don’t want to see your skins. Why do you want those specific people to see your skins?
Because I worked for them. If they dont want to see them they should close their eyes.
I would only be ok with this if hiding a specific skin required permanently destroying it from your wardrobe.
and what about ppl with a slow rig, do they have to be punished for your selfishness?
My rig is over 5 years old and runs the game just fine on max settings. It must be a true potato computer to have fps drops from backpacks
It’s mostly people complain about the particle effects on everything now, myself its not it hurting my rig but the fact I cannot see what I would like when all that’s visible are massive amounts of particles from everyone’s armors/weapons and back items.
The Wings are just annoying because depending on your camera angle and such especially in cramped areas where you are not able to adjust the camera much they take up the whole screen.
And again it doesn’t affect the people that choose those items if the add options to allow others to disable them on their side.
I run Da/Tr/Cs with D/P, I have ran it every season when I am not messing around on experimental builds, last season I kitten ed and went the whole season to t6 Ruby using Berserker amulet and did well. I can say that with my playstyle the Backstab Delay does become an annoyance since now I have to track even more to ensure I land a BS if it would be the most beneficial action making it almost a waste to even attempt the BS.
Majority of the Time I no longer use BS I use stealth as a way to drop pressure on my self reposition and reengage with a far superior skill.
Even with the Extra Second provided by Meld with Shadows the delay hurts Thieves do the the large aftercast on top of the CD, these unnecessary nerfs to Thief core mechanics are degrading the gameplay, as it was without all of the Passives or get out of jail free cards that all other classes had forced thief players to have to Outplay/have more skill than the opponent to have a chance to win, while every other class can let the class play for them, with this CD on stealth attacks it compounds this nature even more without any compensation provided.
Let’s use Backstab as the main example in the meta Build Da/Tr/Dd you thieves have 3 secs of stealth to attempt to land a BS which only has high damage if they can get behind the opponent, so on top of a short time frame we have to make sure we have proper positioning, which no other class has to have for any of their skills on thieves have these restrictions, before it was manageable to get a BS off reliably even if the target had aegis since we could get at least 2 BS off in 3 seconds, this doesn’t account for if players move out of range dodge, or use any othe damage mitigation ability like Aoe blind or invulns. With the change Thieves running the Meta build get exactly one chance to BS unless they waste a lot more resources to get even more stealth which can be easily interrupted in most cases, this is do to having a built in 1 CD and the long after cast, on a class that was not supposed to have any CDs on Weapon skills.
The easiest fix would be for Anet to remove the CD, which will most likely never happen since it is rare for them to admit they were wrong and revert changes.
The next thing would be to allow Stealth attacks to by pass some of the passive defenses/ active defenses like Block, they can either. Make Stealth attacks baseline unblockable or tie it to a trait in an underused Trait line either in SA or in CS which it would tie well together with on Hidden Killer.
The other option would be to make Meld in Shadows baseline to compensate for the Cd+long aftercast.
And one last Change that could help compensate is to remove the positioning requirement and make the behind target damage the only damage factor on the attack from any angle.
/end wall of text

if they have a slow rig they should be on lower graphics settings to compensate
Still doesn’t remove all of the wings or all of the particle effects.
It was a crap nerf Anet did without any reasoning behind it. That’s the short and sweet and most Thieves will agree, now it places more emphasis on how most thief builds require more skill to use compared to all the other classes.
You act as though there isn’t elitism/toxicity in Gw2 PvP, and this would not change it but it would give transparency to what we had before and it wasn’t a problem when we had it. And seeing how Gw2 wants to be “e-Sports” and have their PvP be prestigious and competitive why not show the MMR of each player?
I don’t own one and never knew of this bug, that is interesting to say the least.
SA should have a Trait that makes all Stealth attacks unblockable. It would bring SA to be more in line with being a Viable choice, as well as not breaking the game to any extent.
How do they scale differently when they have the exact same stats? The only difference being stat swapping and skins?

“people like you” get out of this us vs them mentality. i dont even have a legendary item or insane backpiece.
I wasn’t implying you had insane Legendaries or Backpieces, just your attitude, you would rather force other people to degrade their gameplay for selfish reasons that would have little to no impact on you. And you have come up with blatant lies that there were already options to disable the things discussed in this thread, which again there isn’t outside of PvP.
Anet has proven they have the ability to do what we ask for, they stop all particle effects from items in PvP without using standard models. They would just have to make it be able to toggle as an option.
You can disable Backpieces from showing on your character which means they may be able to do it so it applies to everyone. Could be a stretch since I don’t know the full limitation on the current design.
And they have the ability to let players toggle standard models in PvP, which could be ported to Pve and WvW. Which would more than likely be easier than the second idea.

It was the copper fed this time, it will be back.
Another +1.
Any line to open communication between players and Devs is great, especially when it isn’t a bashing going on.
I wish they would give more built in options for UI management, I would love for some stuff to be disabled or resized/repositioned, idk why they never allowed this to begin with.
Instead of upping the damage of BS which is unneeded, they can make all Stealth attacks Unblockable either baseline or from a trait in SA. With the amount of restrictions placed on Thieves and stealth as is this would be very balanced, as well as in comparison to all the damage mitigation/invulns/Passives/sustain every class has.

If Aoe was rare it wouldn’t be a problem if it was impactful, but it is just spam and a lot of it has CC attached to them.
Yeah, it’s a tough choice, If your team at mid cannot survive long enough for you and a teammate to decap a point it’s kind of a lost match, in a situation like that I would allow your teammate that is running far engage first, while you help mid but do not be fully committed, once you see a lull in the fight or if your teammate may need help disengage mid and help far, your superior mobility can ensure you get there in time.
kitten answer: level 80 Booster.
Tomes and scrolls.
Then there is PvP in general = more tomes plus daily rewards.
There is also Crafting which eats a lot of gold but very fast especially with boosters.
Other than those just play the game.
In PvP and WvW the amount of Conditions is gross, in a matter of two seconds in sPvP I was hit with 15 stacks of confusion and around 7 stacks of torment from a Mesmer, in WvW with the runes and sigils not restricted it becomes worse.
But back on topic I believe Sigils shouldn’t show their CDs since they are random procs anyway for the most part, but on a similar note I believe an Icon for when Trait Passives like Endure Pain and Elixir S and other related traits should show on the Status effect bar and be removed from it when it is on CD. This would allow for better gameplay overall and for better strategy
The conditions I would see go would be Torment, especially now with the change to Confusion, and any other Conditions that overlap like Cripple, and Chill.
Boons I would like see removed would be Retaliation, and possibly protection since now a lot of classes have built in damage mitigation that doesn’t tie to a boon.
Or they could separate the Status effects, Boons and Conditions into their own spot on the Ui stacked to help with Screen clutter.
I’m not up on the latest changes to these but I am curious – what change to confusion makes torment obsolete? They would seem to be quite different – torment affecting movement, confusion affecting skill use. Same with chill and cripple – they both affect movement speed (to different degrees) but chill has other effects. Which are you suggesting to be removed, or both?
They kind of full similar roles now, Confusion now ticks even if you do nothing but does more if you activate an ability, while torment ticks when you do nothing but does more damage if you move.
Now a big thing with these are they are both denial conditions, for punishing players on doing what would be good gameplay, and normally when a build has one it also has the other.
Also my view is they have too much Boon/Condi spam in game and would like to see it reduced in stacks that each individual can apply in a short time and in the amount total in game.

Solution to your problem Tyloric, remove Some buffs and Conditions the amount is too much lol
Not all of us are capable of playing at super high resolutions.
I was saying that Anet should reduce the amount/ type of boons and conditions in game not anything against your resolution.

I could careless about the populations I have been on both sides throughout the last 4 years. I want class/ Gameplay mechanics balanced to not be a cheese spam fest plus removing all the AOE Cancer will help with a lot of the lag that happens in the Servers when zergs meet.
Since populations can’t be balanced unless Anet kittenes a lot of players off and force hard caps on servers and redistributes the player base across the servers and not allowing transfers or the get rid of the server system entirely.
But Nothing is guild specific in this game which I believe it should be. I think a remake of WvW where it is a smaller scale maybe the size of one BL or smaller have different Guilds face each other have a tier/ Ranking system and also make a sPvP game mode that focuses on Guilds.
Maybe a gamemode where you can fight against another guild! where both of you got a guild lord and lose if it dies?
Wait….. why are there rats carrying bombs???……………..
Yeah that was a horrible implementation….. And not guild specific…
Yeah you can it’s called standard models or they can give a slider to reduce particle affects for either enemies and for allies.
This is not going to happen, imo.
Why?
The desire to show off is a basic human motivation shared by very many people. The game survives as it is (no gear treadmill endgame) because it features a cosmetic endgame. While players would not know whether those other players were seeing their fashion accomplishments, the status quo affords them the belief that anyone they run into will see them. Removing that could make a serious dent in the game’s ability to motivate players to pursue those things. While I don’t know the size of the demographic that would be demotivated, I believe it would be much larger than the group that will leave the game because they don’t like seeing such stuff.
The problem with all of the particle effects in game is it makes it hard to see key animations from players and Mobs alike, it’s why in sPvP they gave the option for standard models but all of the Particle effects from skills is still a lot, and they keep toning them down. The places this would really help/ be impactful is in WvW and Raids/ Fractals where key animations need to be seen. Plus there is a thing as too much display clutter and with all of the particle effects on items now that needs to be addressed.
