For the love of any bit of balance left in this game DO NOT make more unblockable skills! All it does is remove the thinking people have to do when fighting any class with blocks, because why care? they don’t to anything anyways and your skills will just go right through it. Also, when your blocking your usually not attacking, so what, you want them to basically be sitting ducks? If anything Tone down the myriad of unblockable skills in the game and leave the ones that require a lot of investment to get.
Example of what I think should stay:
-Revenant phase traversal since it takes almost all of your energy
-Guardian pulls since there is an icon on your bar so you know before you block that you can get pulledExample of what should go:
-Thief Shadow Shot, nothing this spammable should be unblockable
-Corrupt Boon should be blockable by blocks that aren’t aegis since its on a low 15 sec cd so it deserves some counter play
The damage isn’t unblockable on Shadow Shot but good try the Blind is unblockable.

They could get rid of those too.
On the other hand the only random proc I see on http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aegis is from Prismatic Understanding. The rest are either from using skills that provide aegis or known after first encounter(depending on skill of the attacker).
Shield of courage Auto Proc every 30-40 seconds on Guardian, and a then there is Hunter’s Determination of they get cc’d at all which procs Aegis and fragments that provide aegis. And let’s not forget there is also invuln other players get if a Mesmer uses distortion near them, passive defensive a fly around in team fights and in WvW with boonshare running wild.

If anything pumping out boons, blocks passives is an example of skills and builds over compensating for garbage players and even worse gameplay. Just beacuse it’s a bigger pain in the auschwitz doesn’t mean it “requires more skill”. It’s reached a point where it’s just not proper balance.

right now thieves have to waste a lot of resources for a small amount of stealth that requires you reposition behind a player, make sure none of their passive defensive boons are on, make sure there is no Aoe blind, all within 3 seconds hopefully catch them without a dodge since most people dodge after a second of thief stealthing, and if our one attack does not connect we have a 1 sec cd on a class that is not supposed to have CDs on weapon skills, that has a huge after cast.
Peoples argument to thieves is hit Gud yet our class has the least Passives on top of least impactful Passives in game, and we have to play around everyone else’s crutches that stop kitten players from dying because they are bad.
Really they should remove almost all Passive defenses in game it would actually allow for skill to shine through.

Thief is just hard countered by warrior and guardian and revenant, That is why they complain. There are classes that at a certain level of skill are impossible for them to win vs. a Pro league thief could lose to a decent guardian.

Why thieves are so kittened is that we have DHs rampaging around and Anet nerfs tools that helped us to deal with guards, not to mention the class been in garbage tier for 4 seasons now and the nerf also affected builds that were barely viable if at all – Anet just keeps beating the dead horse.
Its true that thieves don’t have the raw hp and the armor like a warrior to directly deal with dmg but they got more active damage mitigation in form of dodges and blinds and mobility. Its a trade off IMO. And this has nothing to do with punishing players for missing stealth attacks like it does for a warrior bursts.
Actually it does. Thieves don’t have sustain to make up for missed backstab (which btw in many cases is not even worth using), you get maybe 1-2 chances to land it at all.
Backstab already has high requirements (have crit, be behind target, have stealth up, not get blocked/interrupted, it is SINGLE target spell etc.), was 1 sec CD on top of 1 sec aftercast really necessary, especially in DH meta?
And i love how people bring up dodges. They don’t save you from all, some spells ignore dodges (hunter trap for example). And, yeah great, used my dodges then what? Blinds are useless since HoT due to passive condi removals and AoE/fields spam. Mobility? Sure, i can always run away but giving enemy point doesn’t win games….

As far as unblockable goes, there is 2 ways: either reduce amount of passives and blocks in game or allow backstab to ignore block if it hit target from behind. The only thing i can do atm (while DH is camping blocks for ages) is land 1 attack with basi venom and then spam choking gas which does like 0 dmg. Great choices~

Let’s use your logic here for a second, Guardian has been designed to be a support class with the amount of Aoe heal/blocks/reflects and boon sharing they should have all damage nerfed they weren’t designed for bruiser builds, the same with Druid currently their role is for support/bunker they should remove their damage. By your logic the only classes designed as bruisers should be Warrior, Rev, Engie. Then you have Roamers/decap Mesmer vies for the same spot as Thief at +1 decap but no one complains that they can sit and fight on point, and is one of the best 1v1 specs currently.

Well considering most Guardian builds end up using Smiter’s Boon and Monk’s Focus it’s entirely warranted. I’m pretty sure there hasn’t been a single Guardian build that hasn’t ended up using those two traits since they were made in like, whenever it was they reworked the trait system.
Yes but Monks focus is not connected or affects Purification in the slightest, so why did the OP mention it in regards to purification? That’s what I find funny.

I see you did. Purification is still overtuned as far as healing goes, understandable since there are several heals that are conditionally overtuned with a risk/reward gimmick to make it stronger, like Engi’s A.E.D., Necro’s Consume Conditions, Mesmer’s Ether Feast etc. The main problem with Purification’s is that the “gimmick” is on trap trigger, which barely qualifies as one because you know as well as me that the trap not triggering as soon as you put it down in a fight almost never happens.
I haven’t had too much issue with the heal, I don’t main DH I will jump on for a daily and that’s it, I main Thief I have other issues with DH that one long cast heal isn’t one, and hasn’t been for me. Granted if I am against any decent DH it either becomes a standstill or I am dead. Yeah it took me a moment to go back reread and check the traits since I don’t main DH, my main issues are the amount of blocks/ aegis they are able to apply that compound on top of their healing capabilities if they toned down the blocks a little the trap heal would be a non issue. The biggest offender is the f3 shield of courage
I know what you were getting at but Smiters boon affects all of their heals not just the trap one, again it has a 1/2 second cast, you see where they place it 9/10 times and you can avoid stepping in it, also the trap trigger doesn’t Proc Smiters boon or monks focus on laying it does.

I run core Da/Tri/Sa in WvW with D/P, using Trickster to provide more cleanses and faster heal CD sometimes I have to camp stealth to cleanse enough, but I find it better than DrD in a lot of cases. Running Shadowstep Signet of agility and either Blinding Powder or Roll for Initiative.

Forcing a game mode designed to be played by organized teams to solo is a horrible decision, the PvP aspect of both Gw1 and Gw2 has been team oriented not based on the individual player, that is only true for PvE content to some extent mainly for story purposes. If you want a solo experience ask for 1v1,2v2 and 3v3 arenas. Those high light individual skill. There is no reason to force 5 mans conquest which has always been designed and balanced around organized composition, into a pug fest

Best way to kill DH play Thief, profit, DH can’t handle the insane burst, or on point presence/ Pressure the thief provides with Thieves guild and Unload.
Or you can go to PvP dueling servers, or guild hall arenas, or into Obsidian sanctum….

It could be worse. At release the Phantasms were so powerful all a Mesmer had to do was drop the Pistol one, stealth and watch everything melt.
Then Anet made minions Rally, and swung to the whole other side of the spectrum, I miss that week bahahahaha, when I was playing Mes it sucked but I could never be killed by a Mesmer.
Let me add a tip that all the thief will hate me for. Stand in AI attack range so the thief can’t kite AI and attack. This ruins their offence against mesmer and ranger.
And minionmancers and too an extent engies but engies don’t need help against thieves.
Bahaha a well played DH is only counter to thieves? When a crap played DH can kill most thieves due to it being one of Thieves many Hardcounters, list of Thief Hardcounters, DH, Engie, Druid. To a smaller extent Mesmers, Cele Ele and Warriors.
Classes Thieves are favored in match ups, Thieves, Reapers, and Revenant
There are more classes that thieves have to massively outplay the class more so than the opponent to be able to have a chance to kill them.
The champs are fine, they add another layer, do you ignore them and try to dps Bloomhunger or do you kill them first before too many are there. Really all the is needed is shortening he onslaught phase down to 20-30 secs, this allows a break where CDs can reset and allow players to regroup.
I’m surprised this thread hasn’t been locked yet a moderator doesn’t like it when people post match ups even if all it shows are the classes. Or it’s only the ones hat shows the over balance of DHs being played.
I think their budget for the current game must be running thin considering the last balance patch. They probably have everyone rushing on the expansion.
Just yesterday they closed a thread saying don’t post match ups and it only showed the blue team having 4 DHs and 1 Thief. The Mods reasoning was Posting match ups are not allowed on the forums.
There’s only one attack that will one shot you and that is the leap, the ground pound isn’t one shot so you can react to it. Now if you miss your dodge and don’t slot a stun break the knock down into the ground pound can kill you, but that’s why the game has skills that stun break so you can react.
You can dodge every attack or just walk out of the attack area.
Roll for initiative is great for core thief builds if you run Trickster its on shorter cd and an additional condie cleanse, core thief builds do surprisingly well in today’s meta due to the nature of what thief was shoehorned into.
Well they didn’t give a new class mechanic like everyone else so sure.
Augmenting dodges was literally their mechanic
Primary Class mechanics have all been the F abilities. Steal is the Thief primary class mechanic, not dodges. Again every profession got brand new primary class mechanics except for thieves.

Well they didn’t give a new class mechanic like everyone else so sure.
Da/Tri/Sa, Da2-2-2;Tri 3-1-2; Sa 3-2-2. With D/P and SB; heal is Withdraw; Utilities Shadowstep, Blinding Powder, Signet of Agility; Elite is Basilisk Venom.

You can always swap Bountiful Theft for Trickster provides more condie cleanse with Withdraw and makes it a 14 1/2 second heal.

The only difference is condis bypass all defenses once they are applied while power attacks don’t.
If a thief spams it they just dumped all ini into it and won’t have to many disengage options,it also still doesn’t get around all of the invulns running around. And it procs reveal so it wouldn’t allow restealthing on spamming it.

Ele could tank 3 players while holding base, thats why it got proxy nerfed from the removal of cleric. As for direct nerfs druid got nerfs to its survivebility as the ele got if not more.
Druid cant tank even 2 players while holding a base, to survive it needs to kite around and stealth which will make the druid to lose capping.
This meta is shaping out to be very hard for druids so I dont even see the reason for this post, every match you c like 2-4 REVS , 2-4 WARRIORS, 2-4 DH , maybe 1-2 druids.

It’s all Rng, nothing more nothing less. Take for example in 4 days I got 6 ascended boxes from PvP then nothing since that was months ago. I have only seen 3 ascended boxes drop from fractals.
This discussion reminds me the game launch where people found dungeons such an awful experience because it was way too hard (with the same arguments).
And Anet listened, and made them easier (also, people started doing them at level 80 in full exotics/ascended, the first threads were made by people in greens/blues trying dungeons at their theoretically correct levels – no such change will happen now, people are already playing at full capacity). I wonder why people bringing “dungeons were hard” argument always keep forgetting about that.
And it’s not blatantly false T4 Mai Trin is harder than Bloomhunger fight when it comes to mechanics, I see more people die there than in the new Swamp.
Oh come on, even devs already said that Swamp is now the hardest fractal (and that it was intentional).
You put a lot of emphasis on what Devs say, but brush off that Devs Claimed Dungeons were the hardest most challenging content for the most dedicated and skilled groups, then the same with Fractals, all of which were easy once people learned the mechanics.
And one more time more people have a lot more difficulty with Mai Trin (people getting yanked by Mai Trin when with attacks that little to no tell and when people run like a chicken with there head cut off dodging the seemingly random Aoe in cannon phase) and die to that than I see go down in T4 Swamp(run in a complete circle kiting boss dodging two of the biggest telegraphed attacks ever, waiting out a phase with adds and running wisps).
It’s not like they added any enrage timer or any other mechanic that dictates what build you can run or anything like that, they just made it so you move around and dodge, and here are three other levels of the same fractal that are joke compared to t4 where you can even ignore Bloomhungers big attacks.
But you are more inclined to stacking and spamming 1 so I guess that’s why you find having to move in a circle so difficult as shown by previous statements.

You aren’t buying the core game again the core game is f2p you are buying the expansion. The game was 10$ before hot released, and that was after 3 years of the game being so 50$ over three years is more than enough bang for your buck

Blocks can actually be countered. I do it all the time.
Because every one of your marks are unblockable other classes don’t have that luxury.

I already have my wings, and I didn’t play during S1, with no problem on a ranked MMR.
I’m just saying that they could make their PvP better and reflect better on the players, but they would have to implement a real league/ladder style system. And not the casual farm fest known as The path of Ascension leagues.
I wouldn’t mind seeing how it would have a better reflection of your skill, they would just have to tie it to a game wide MMR reset and boom people complain already so no change there.
Why would being recruited be a bad thing? If you are good and people want you that’s fine, and every tournament that was ever in existence were pre mades.
And you are dealing in fringe cases and if people are willin to pay gold to be on teams to advance their position then nothing is wrong there that means someone was wanting that service anyways we saw that with These current leagues anyway people offering gold so they could reach legend.
And you wouldn’t see blowouts you would see more balanced matches since then the system would better reflect MMR, and you would be facing people closer in MMR especially without any safeguards.

The game mode was never designed for Solo queues, otherwise they would have had the 1v1/2v2/3v3 style matches. they did allow Solo Queuers but the game mode was definitely not setup for them.

I think the tutorial is not enough.
Too many players know what to do, but play for their Glory Score. (individual points on the map)
The Scoreboard should be better tune to get people playing the game properly. But it’s not.
I never mentioned scoreboards or the like, my post was solely about Devs thinking players are too stupid to understand skills are split between gamemodes and one way to combat that would have an in depth tutorial that explained skills act differently between PvE/PvP/WvW
I think that the pvp legendary should be a reward track. It could easily be a long one that required playing a good part of each season.
As to skill. Unfair matchmaking eliminated the question of skill in seasons 2 and 3. That’s been rescinded which is a big step in the right direction.
The step that would really straighten things out would be to require everyone to solo que. This would prevent solo farming and force people to advance on there own merits, not be carried by being on a coordinated team.
Given those two things; reward track for the shiny and all solo queue, I’d be fine with seeing safety nets removed. I don’t think it would be healthy for the game though. Being stuck in lower ranks would frustrate too many players and population would drop further.
Or the could force all players be in teams before queueing since conquest PvP was designed for organized teams, not Solo Queuers, then the gamemode would be played as intended, and people would still have a fair chance.
And if they get frustrated with losing they either get better or they leave which happens in all games with PvP, but it would attract more dedicated / competitive players also bolstering the population, especially if they get balance more under control.
And the leagues were not skill based also do to the safeguards can’t be skilled based if you can’t lose your position and just get forced into higher divisions.
