Could you push out my “prototype Bunker” Warrior with your Warrior though? I bet you wouldn’t even get me to half. Axe/Shield + GS 20/30/0/0/20 isn’t the only viable build out there. In-fact, that build is a noob trap.

It has potential. And I’m willing to show you that only a few tweaks will make it viable in-game. I’ve said this before the only thing that would make it attractive is if the 5-15-25 traits from tactics and defense were “Atma’s Impaler” good.

Can it hold a base like a bunker professions?

Warriors get a 3 second invulnerability on a 90 second cooldown (can still be CC’d, stunned, immobilized, crippled, knock backed, etc).

Mesmers get a 2 second super invulnerability (evasion status) on a 6 second cooldown.

That’s cool.

It’s on a trait vs a weapon skill and forces a Mesmer to be melee, plus it roots him in place too.

The Engineer too has a 4s invul + break stun and allows him to move. It’s what makes every class unique.

Warriors doesn’t get the full affect of invulnerability. Endure Pain is only invulnerable to physical damage. Condition damage still gets through when Endure Pain is activated.

Asuran is fun, especially when you have a Norn that’s probably saying there’s a little kitten Asuran Im going to kill, then you destroy him in combat.

If I can do again I’d probably go Human or Norn so my weapons stand out more. Charzooka on a Norn anyone?

Charzooka on a Norn would be pretty cool, but then that type of scenery would go into unwanted territory hehehehe.

Ok I respect your view on how great you think warriors condition removal are even though it is on a disadvantage comparing them to other professions that can remove them much easier than a warrior.

You have to understand that not every warrior wants to use shout runes to remove conditions constantly for this occasion knowing good and well conditions can be reapplied again pretty quick.

If anything warriors with shout runes are just limiting themselves ignoring the fact that warriors have no passive traits ability to remove conditions. If warriors had traits like that which they should especially in the tactics / defense tree….then I can say it is worth to spec into shout runes. Otherwise I’m just nerfing myself to stay alive longer because every fight I enter into won’t be 1 vs 1 case especially if I want to try to hold a base by myself which I can’t because warriors can’t be bunkers in this game.

Warriors are fine. Heck, I laughed when I saw the condition removal note in the patch notes. Really? Shake It Off for AoE Condition removal, a low-ish cooldown signet that removes ALL conditions, a heal on a low cooldown that heals 2 conditions and, if you don’t wanna use Utility slots for it, a Warhorn trait that CONVERTS CONDITIONS INTO BOONS. Warriors have EXCELLENT condition removal, we just don’t have any passive condition removal like some classes do.

As far as balance is concerned, I’d like to see more options for different weapons encorporated into their traits or design (maybe sword crits grant vigor, axe crits grant retaliation, hammer crits grant prot, all at a % chance on crit, of course) which would allow warriors to plan around using different weapons for different builds, instead of defaulting to different roles based solely on weapon skills.

With the above suggestions, you could see an odd, retaliation stacking Axe warrior, or a Crit-based hammer warrior, or a sword-shield warrior that has blocks and crazy endurance uptime (i.e., a sword/board warrior that can be a somewhat effective tanky character).

Warriors have excellent condition removal, it’s the heals that are a bit weak, since you choose either between condition removal healing or slightly more powerful healing (which is perfectly fair). But considering that we have 18k HP even while being a glass cannon (like my warrior, lol), I’d say that is fine. As long as I stack plenty of toughness using Knight-type gear and don’t attempt to face-tank stuff, it’s ridiculously hard to take me down even with my Signet build (which lacks stun breakers).

In sPVP, I use a completely different build. I go for a tanky Power/Toughness/Vitality build with Mace/Shield + Greatsword.

On a complete side note, in WvW a kiting Rifle Warrior with AoE buffing and condition removing shouts can be very difficult to deal with, assuming he/she is decently skilled. When I run in WvW I use a shout build, and I love it. Being able to support teammates with your relatively shouts helps a lot in zergs when you’re on the frontline.

I just want to correct you on something…….

Warriors don’t have an excellent condition removal system and even with shouts runes it is nothing comparable to a guardian condition removal system. Guardians can use shout runes as well and have passive conditions remove off every 10seconds along with a 20second cool down skill called Smite Condition. It is an AoE attack that does more damage if their is any condition removed off the guardian.

The developer even gives you brief information about how they view warriors.

We want the Warrior to be capable of good melee damage in a sturdy body. They can still do some decent damage at range, but they aren’t as good at it as the Ranger (with their pet). They have a hard time taking enemy boons down, and instead, have to just go through them with raw force. They may have a hard time with enemy conditions, and may need to ask for ally help in order to keep themselves free of hampering conditions.

Toughness without good work is useless. Hell any Warrior build without good work is useless.

In order to compliment Toughness or most other builds for that reason:

1.) You must know how burst and conditions connect. This is IMPORTANT for both glass cannon and Tank Warrior builds.
2.) You have to learn how to punish. If you know how to pressure people will be less intent on attacking you. This helps on setting up kills or survivability through killing if you’re glass cannon.
3.) If you’re a Tank then you must have permanent vigor/regeneration to compliment that Toughness. Your “I messed up” button if you get mauled by conditions or about to get CC bursted for some reason would be Balanced Stance and Signet of Stamina.

TL;DR You can have 4k Toughness for all I care, if you don’t actually know how to AVOID damage out-put in the first place or fail-safe in the first place, that won’t matter. But if you do take the time to learn how to avoid and punish, then that 4k Toughness will mean A LOT.

I want to believe you about this toughness thing and this so called build you speak of, but in reality I can tell it’s not a good build after all even if I did not test it out.

I say this is because we don’t have abilities like protection aura, retaliation or aegis constantly up unless we’re around other professions that give us those boons which pretty much makes us a handicap profession that relies on other profession to stay alive longer.

You can have high toughness, but we are aware toughness is crappy without defensive boons. If warriors were to be this full tank you speak of then warriors would not have to worry about dodging certain attacks as long condition damage or area effects isn’t involved.

As a warrior lets face it we have a very bad condition removal system and if you can’t accept that even when the developer himself put a little brief information about warriors saying they lack in the condition removal department..then there’s a problem with ya.

To make this a short one….

1. Is this build you speak of viable in Spvp / Tpvp?

2. What are the pros and cons about this build?

You just have to do what every other Warrior does these days:

Equip a Greatsword.

Let mobility be your defense.

For 1 vs 1 situations sometimes, but unless they don’t have Mobility Strikes they’re pretty screwed especially in groups.

Their only way of defense for mobility is having the shout runes with mending skill because other than that you need a babysitter to back you up in the fights.

Warriors are easy pickings which is why they get targeted the first.

The warrior is a noob measuring stick. So I love when someone complains about one.

So wait, you can dodge a skill that gives 11 stacks of might on a very low cooldown and heals? You can dodge a shout that grants stability for a ridiculously long duration in comparison to stability of other classes, also on a fairly short cooldown? It’s not things like hundred blades or kill shot that make warriors strong in my eyes, it’s that they have many skills that other classes would simply kill for. I’ve played just about every class there is with the exception of Ranger at a mid-basic level, and while I understand that warrior does have it’s (major) weaknesses in practical play, there are still parts of the moveset that make me just think “this is much too good to be true”. It’s silly the way other classes complain about warriors, but calling warriors weak when you guys have so many powerful skills and utilities seems a bit harsh.

Yes we can dodge a skill that can stack 11 might and what are you talking about heals?
Warriors aren’t guardians because guardians have that 2hand sword heals trait.

When calling warriors weak I guess that means they don’t have much to bring to the tables besides the ordinary cookie cutter builds like burst or hybrid burst to tourneys.

Heck you don’t see too much condition spec sword/sword long bow warriors in pvp at all since most conditions can be cleanse easily or turn into boons. The class has a limited choice here you know.

Sure we have a lot of skills but are they really useful? Not many…not many at all and if we want to die quicker we take Frenzy

Erm, no; Frenzy in the first game was functionally identical to how it is now, except it could be kept up permanently as the stance lasted 8 seconds yet the cooldown was 4 seconds. So by the time the stance ran out, you could immediately activate it again.
They didn’t get Frenzy in GW2 from WoW; they already had it.

I know they did not get it from WoW, but it doesn’t mean they weren’t exposed to the two WoW skills I mention which made Frenzy perform that way.

Does the timer for the trait kick in if you use endure pain from the skill bar?

I have not seen the trait used once but i don’t usually look down to see if it being used, if your at 25% or less health my eye’s are focused on other things. I have been looking down recently though and have yet to see endure pain activate at 25% health. I’m not sure if this is because I used endure pain from the skill bar.

It works as long you’re not one shot between 50% hp. The trait should be reworked so that when taking high damage from a pure glass cannon that can one shot you if you’re at a low health pool percentage like maybe 50% or 35%. It still activates at 25% negating the one shot damage.

I’ve always been disappointed with the cooldown on Frenzy, especially when compared to the first game. The skill has balance baked in, what with taking double damage while it’s active, so the long cooldown seems arbitrary and actively dissuades me from ever taking the skill. Heck, sigils of rage proc more and don’t have the double damage downside.

It was one of the things that first made me realise that a lot of the skills in GW2 are poor relations to those in the first game, stinking of traditional MMO punitive cooldowns with subdued effects in order to stretch out encounter length.

I have a feeling they got that Frenzy downside affect idea from another MMO like WoW.

Warriors from that game when you’re Fury Warrior or Arms you spec into a skill called Death Wish which increases your damage, but also taken damage increases as well.

Their other move Recklessness performed the same way except it only increases your critical% by 50%, but doubles your taken damage more than Death Wish

If both Death Wish and Recklessness are applied the damage taken a warrior receives is between 30%-35%. It’s been awhile, but it seems GW2 Frenzy still have beaten both WoW skills taken damage done by another 15%.

Frenzy should work another way like similar to a thief Haste ability. You lose all your endurance when using Frenzy. In a sense you’re exerting a lot of energy out swinging weapons fast.

The way how Frenzy works now is like a Please Hit Me sign over your head when using Frenzy because the warrior goes down quick if you catch them off guard from their 100blades combo or any other weapon they use without having their babysitter skill Endure Pain to back them up from taking physical damage.

However for Frenzy and Endure Pain which are extremely long cool downs it doesn’t apply to these two stances at all.

Why is that?

From a glass cannon point of view you need haste to finish the job because glass cannons are meant to do major damage and end you quick.

From having high toughness or medium toughness point of view I think toughness should be rescaled to counter glass cannon damage. I say this because even having over 2k toughness / 3k armor you can still be burst through as if you wearing fruit of the looms underwear on and that’s not cool at all.

So this is issue is a toughness issue because if toughness was able to negate a lot of damage depending on high your toughness is…then glass cannons with haste applied wouldn’t be a threat as to those with low toughness. ya dig?

Retaliation is a pretty sweet boon, but I think that grandmaster trait would be better off with something like:

Dragonskin
Gain 5 seconds of protection when struck by a critical hit. Cannot trigger more than once every 15 seconds.

Under constant fire that’s 25% uptime on protection (a bit more if you have + boon duration). And fits in with the idea of a defensive warrior much better than retaliation, in my opinion.

I like that idea even I would prefer it to be another name like Heavy Guard or
Tortoise Aura

Your profession will always have their conditions removed by the guardians.

that means absolutely nothing, there is almost no point in playing spvp if you dont at least do free tourneys. so i stand by the fact that longbow is horrible atm.

Agree on all except downed state (i love it) and the combat is pretty good, i coulnt play WoW after playing this, i would be just trying to dodge or move quickly.

Tried out mists of pandaria, and stopped cuz i couldnt roll. Played WoW for 6 years, and could never go back after this game

I wouldn’t be surprised if WoW or any MMo will copy off GW2 style like no kill stealing getting exp for it instead, your own loot, nodes..etc etc.

The game came out in August…I think there’s room to improve, but raging on a free game that has sPvP, tPvP, and WvWvW at release seems a bit harsh.

These guys are game hoppers and only wanting attention to see if some changes happens rapidly ignoring the fact this game came out recently this year. They are used to other MMO pvp gameplay that they played and expecting this one to be exact or better.

Overall the pvp in this game isn’t bad at all but certain professions / traits / weapons should be reworked when it comes to pvp so that they can come into pvp without relying on some professions for support depending on the situation like a zerg.

In 1 vs 1 fights it is not that great depending on your opponent a.k.a skilled players.

However it would be cool if the weapon did had a reduce 20% skill trait like the others, but remember sword and axe doesn’t have that skill trait as well.

just a few days ago my team and i did a free tourney for fun and on forest we ran into a longbow condition specced warrior. basically with our necro support and guardian bunker the bleeds from the warrior were completely inconsequential and when hed drop the aoe field on us we’d ignore it and keep fighting, seeing as how the ticks of flame damage werent making all that much of a difference. especially since they have a burst ele with them also putting the same dot on us, which only stacks in duration and not ticks.

sure join a random 8v8 pug match and drop some aoe from a distance into the always present zerg and you might get a decent amount of damage off, but in an organized tourney team it is literally useless.

if you still say otherwise post a vid proving it, otherwise im sticking to what ive seen and experienced.

You got that damn right and I hate the fact that some people have to view stuff that way. Yes this game will have pros and cons depending what spec you are but when it comes down to a warrior class to depend on others while majority of the other profession don’t have to worry about that scenario is absurd.

Teamwork is the key to successful wins, but not like this. This is not even competitive game play….. it’s torturing….

But in addition to the 1200 range, Stronger Bowstrings does the following

  • Fan of Flames becomes a small projectile finisher (x3)
  • Smoldering Arrow becomes a large projectile finisher and deals double damage

The trait is not as bland as you think it is.

You just have to spec into it which is a waste of space because you have other useful traits better than those two like Leg specialist and increase damage with each boons that are up unless the warrior is shout spec.

Only thing I wish for longbow to do when you’re trait for* burning arrows* is that the auto attack for longbow now does burning condition.

For the Strong Bowstrings trait I think it should just be hotfix into the Longbow weapon instead of it being a trait because it is an wasteful trait that should be reworked or replaced with something valuable.

I swear most of the people that respond by going to http://wiki.guildwars2.com and listing every warrior’s method of removing conditions have not actually played warrior in sPvP.

Yes you can remove a condition with warhorn + quick breathing. Go use that warhorn in sPvP and come back and tell me how awesome that was. Runed Shouts? Really? You will be worse off in all match-ups.

Seriously. Go use the builds you recommend. Here’s what will happen.

Against a condition build – You will survive longer against conditions. You will still lose though because you are equipped for less damage via weapons/utilities, and will not be able to put on any real pressure via lasting damage. You will also not survive indefinitely like a bunker build since warrior has very limited self-healing options. So you lose, but you lose slower.

Against a glass cannon build. You have a little more survival since you won’t be strait glass cannon, but your damage output it way worse. If you ever played this game in sPvP at all, you already know that damage stats far out-scale defensive stats (unless its protection/vigor or defensive cds like stealth, mistform, etc) So you lose here more too.

Against a bunker: you’re beyond screwed. You can barely pressure a condition build (most condition builds are innately tanky), so you absolutely can’t touch a bunker. They will just chip you down slowly as well like a condition build (slower, but its an inevitable win for them) Warrior, due to poor self healing options again can’t win. Most bunker builds will kill you, and end fight at full life.

And this is coming from someone who started hammer + axe/warhorn build with healing shouts in sPvP. I’ve literally tried every build i think, even the weird stuff like sword/mace. GS glass cannon was the last thing i tried since i did not want to be “another gs warrior” But once you play enough sPvP you realize that its currently the most optimal build. And can beat most glass cannons, you can kill a condition build or bunker build if you end the fight relatively fast before the conditions/self heals overwhelm you. Its not easy, but its not impossible. Some middle of the road build though just will not put enough pressure on a condition or bunker build to ever kill them. You will just survive longer but inevitably die.

That’s where most players pvp at and get the most feedback to see which class is balance or not besides Tpvp excluding WvW. Spvp is quite popular than Tpvp as you can tell plus because of it professions might get new traits and etc.

This thread is missing the obligatory request to have rampage removed or completely reworked as an elite. Few elites in this game actually make you WORSE off; rampage is one of these.

I’ve already said Rampage should work like Rampage as one with the same cool down as it. Then warriors would use it a bit often than the cookie cutter signet of rage, but I am guessing the developers think it might be too overpowered in pvp. That’s what I am guessing right now since they ignored what I said about tweaking rampage for warriors, but how can it be overpowered when it has such a long cool down?

In 99.9% of time I get stomped even before I can even use vengeance (wvw). So I really cant remember of any delay or casttime.

IMO all of our downed skills are entirely useless in wvw, unless you die in a 1vs1. Its so patetic compared to thieves or eles. =(

I’m not sure about that excluding ele mist form ability when downed. Thief has no protection even when vanishing for a bit they still take damage. Just drop a aoe on them and they’re good as gone. The teleport is ok but only if you went down using Shadow Refuge.

Warriors down state yeah I wish they had something else than the rock, but vengeance is overall great except the fact you die afterwards. What would be nice if they hot fix sweet revenge into vengeance so that we can get a new trait in disciple tree. If warriors are meant to play as a support role mainly and depend on other professions due to their lack of survivability. I say this could make warriors somewhat more enjoyable to play.

I just stick with my team using long bow / sword x shield combo. I’m heavy on condition and I do somewhat decent in 1 vs 1 fights, but I wouldn’t say the warrior profession is overall great.

I think warriors got some nice bug fixes but to be honest everything is relative.

The warrior “buffs” look kind of weak in comparison to the other classes which were already viable to an extent that the warrior simply isn’t.

I just stick with my group when it comes to these professions it’s kind of hard to fight them solo as a con warrior. Sometimes I can beat them and sometimes I can’t, but sticking with a good team eases the frustration.

First, my warrior is the 4th 80 for me…Thief, Guardian, Necromancer, Warrior…in that order.

My warrior is like the red-headed kitten child of Arenanet.

I re-trait a few times to add more survivability, but end up dying a little slower. It is so wierd, I have the same HP on my necromancer in Orr and I am able to take on 5+ mobs without much problem. On my warrior, if I am not running with a greatsword and if they are not all in front of me, forget it. I feel squishier than my necromancer and thief.

Finished the story on my warrior, might finish the cursed shore map completion, and then I am done. I loved the warrior up until about lvl 70.

Orr really exposed the true nature and problems of the warrior profession.

You need Aoe man… Sword, Axe, and Long bow and if you want to go condition spec do that. I farm in Orr. It is an Aoe delicious place depending on which section you are at. I use Healing signet and have 20 points in defense for the other Hp regen that you benefit off of in defense tree. It keeps you alive for a while.
