Guild Wars 2

Playing a Necro in wvwvw is a struggle compared to most other classes so I have a few fixes that may help us compete…
1, reduce cooldown time on wells (45 sec is far too long)
2, Give us a ‘ride the lightening’ type escape mechanism
3, increase conditions cap and give us better/faster ways to stack conditions

My thoughts from observation/guild chat/experience
PvE = Warrior, Guardian, Ranger, Elementalist
WvW = Mesmer, Elementalist, Thief, Guardian (basically these 4 are what people play in wvwvw, any other class and you gimp yourself’

I currently run a powermance and wondered if the ‘Chillmancer’ or ‘mr freeze’ builds are viable in w3?
And if so, anyone have a link to a decent build/equipment/tactics?

I know there was a ‘mr freeze’ post few months ago but the designer said he’d need to re-design the build for w3 – but ne never got round to it :-(

To be honest, Removing these 3 would have little or no Impact on WWvW as most avoid these classes which offer little other than free kills compared to Mesmers/Thieves/Guardians or Ellies (Although Rangers are getting more popular with the Trap build)
Sad as I love my Necro :-(

Was in W3 today and stood on a tower watching 10 of my fellow server players try to take down a single stealth bs thief… They were using AoE, flailing around and even running around in circles ‘like headless chickens’.
Kudos to the Thief, he knew his class and was wiping the floor with my fellow players who couldn’t target him to hit him.
Shame, as those 10 players could have been useful in taking camps/towers but I guess dying to a Thief was more important.

I have the ‘3 sec retaliation’ trait when entering DS but this did not seem to work as his hits still hit me and he received no damage.
I have sent in a Bug report.

The 3 Sec Death Shroud retaliation does not seem to be working. Many times I go in and out of DS and then get hit straight away but the opposing player receives no damage.
Please Fix

Yeah, targeting is the main problem…
If I could have targeted him I could have locked him down, froze him etc… sadly he was in-out stealth hitting me so fast was impossible to get a target, and when I did he stealthed again.
Next time I see a Thief, i’ll run :-)

My fellow Gandarans, please stop playing ‘Chase the Thief’!
This afternoon I was watching from atop SM no fewer than 10 Gandarans chasing around like headless chickens after a single Riverside Thief… He had already dropped 3 players and was in and out of stealth taking them down (and probably laughing his head off).
Those players could have been more use helping take a camp or tower instead of Thief roadkill.
Was quite amusing to watch… And kudos to the Riverside Thief, he was making us look like chumps :-(

Just got laid low by a stealth BS Thief and wanted some advice on how to counter…

He hit me from stealth, steal-bs (I was half health by then)
So I unleashed wells tried to target him (but he was in and out of stealth so couldn’t target) he skipped out of wells in stealth… then proceeded to bs/stealth me to death – every time I tried to target he stealthed :-(

Any advice?

Lack of rewards/loot drops and that only a few select classes dominate, so if you are not one of these classes may aswell avoid it.

Dagger/Pistol Thief (Near pema stealth killing zergs)
Again, I guess everyone he kills is a Newb and needs to LTP? But just how to counter? In the video they try AoE, Flailing wildly but they either die or the thief runs around the zerg ivisible.

Great vid, funny how none of them tried to lock you down/slow you down and just let you run around shooting them…
They deserved to lose :-)

I usually target enemy – ’spec grasp, dagger 3, well suffering+well corruption, dagger 1

But if wells do not stack, is it pointless for me to put down both wells together?

Recently in WvWvW I have come across several players (A Guardian, Ranger and even an Elementalist) where I have tried to use Spectral Grasp and been met with the message ‘Target is immune’ ??
Why is this?
If they have immunity to this, then I want immunity to Bulls rush or back stab or Mesmer clones… Only fair.

Absolutely terrible in WvWvW… running into 1 guy to be suddenly surrounded by 30 guys…
Surely they (Anet) should have done some thorough testing and if so, why was it released when the culling is as it is?

I have a few questions that I hope experienced wvwvw Necro’s can help me with…
I run a power build and use Well of suffering and well of corruption.

1, if I lay down both wells, does the damage stack? (enemy takes damage from both wells)
2, would well of suffering+well of darkness work better?

Wow, how evil and arrogant are the pact that they must condemn a whole race to little more than Genocide to justify their own needs!

I am referring to the Mission where you have to steal the Krait orb (the only thing protecting them from the Risen) for your own selfish needs. Later you return to find all the Krait turned to risen and the water polluted and highly poisonous!! Well done, you destroyed an entire race, a mighty hero!

Well, if all works fine (grasp, dark pact, wells) then they melt… sadly 99% of time grasp or dark pact will fail leaving you wide open for the thief to burn down.
-Edit; I tried the Juggomancer but the build still relies on traits with a looong cool down that once blown, you are a free kill.

And why didn’t retaliation work???

Dark pact seems to only work 30% of the time, spectral grasp maybe less :-(
Also, against thieves, I had the trait that allows you to have 3 sec’s retaliation… but the thief never took any damage- and then stomped me easily. (dark pact failed, spectral gasp failed etc…)
seems the Power Necro is a free kill for a thief (and to all those experts who talk about wells etc… the wells cool down is a complete joke, all the thief does ‘many times’ in last week’ is see the danger, walk out stealth then continue to stealth-hit until you are dead…
Using ds fear adds a few seconds to your life :-)

Hehe definitely slaying noobs … The amount who let you 100b them was shocking!

If I was you, I would forget about building for 1v1 in wvwvw
If you want 1v1 make a Thief or Ellie/Mesmer. Now, if you want group/zerg play there are several excellent builds you can use from shout builds to hammer/rifle builds.
Check the builds on this front forum page for some great build ideas :-)

I have a Power Neco and wondering which Elite to use?
I was thinking Lich form but the abilities seem more orientated for cond builds…

Would runes of Vampire work for powermancer? – for the heals on crit
(I am currently using knights with ruby orbs)

Moral of the story:
Warriors are fine in WuvWuv…. you just need to run the 30/30/30/30/30 spec with rifle/hammer/shield+axe+mace/GS+sword+horn (for maneuverability) soldier runes with all shouts + Frenzy + signet of stamina + endure pain + balanced stance!

Then you can feel the versatility and capability on your warrior like guards/thieves/mesmers/eles!*

Oh if you meet a Thief, use hammer, but against Ellies/rangers use axe/mace, also use sword/horn to move, but also have shield for defence and don’t forget the rifle for ranged et al …

And as for If you have problems against thiefs, use a hammer. I don’t think I have lost a fight in WvW against a thief yet with hammer Those thieves should just quit the game now… No decent thief should ever lose 1v1 to a warrior -Hammer or not.

Yeah, I get what you are saying, and after 600 hours as a warrior in w3 (no keep the newb comments please) I have tried most builds, I still say they are lacking vs other groups (ok they shine in zergs which you find a lot of in top tier but small groups better running with a Guard etc…)
Again, just my (and from what I hear most of my server) opinion and why I rarely see one in w3 on my server.
I’m currently running a shield/axe – sword/wh build (change to rifle occasionally).

I guess I love the small roaming gangs and warriors are not good for that but great for zergs (mindlessly swinging and hitting) a role my cond thief is great at :-)

It is false that warriors suck at WvW. It is really the opposite. That huge cleaving damage will down plenty of players. You just cannot expect one warrior to take on the entire zerg themselves.

This is fine as long as no one singles you out in the zerg…
If they do, you have little cond removal, damage mitigation or escape options so you’d just have to grin and take a dive.

Making a powermancer and wondered what runes to use?
Maybe Vampiric? or scholar? or divinity?

Depends what you want end-game!
If you want WvWvW, then I would go for Guardian or Thief as the warrior is lacking in WvWvW (Guardian can give and take great amounts of damage and great team abilities, Thief is a master of 1v1/small group combat – both have several effective builds).
If your end-game is Fractals/Dungeons/PvE, then a warrior is awesome fun and will be welcome in any party.

So it is upto what you want to do…

I love my Warrior as she is awesome in pve, but increasingly I am frustrated with playing her in W3. (Tried GS, Ax/Shield, Hammer -several builds)
Too slow, no real cond removal, main heal popped you are toast (unlike several other classes that have several ways to heal damage), so easy to lock down , zero escape mechanics etc…

Ok, in a large zerg they are average/good as long as they have others to shield and help out but stray from the zerg and you stand little chance vs most other classes (and I am talking about equally skilled players before someone chimes in how they always noob stomp every class with their warrior).
Again, I asked in general chat why so few warriors, and our commander (on Gandara server) basically said they suck in w3… I had no reply to that.
I guess that’s why everywhere I look in w3 I see Guardians, Mesmers, d/d ellies and a few rangers… very few warriors, yet I go pen/shelter pve and warriors are all I see.

Is this how it is designed? if so, that’s ok.. i’ll use my warrior for farming and create another char for w3.

Beggar still is a profession in UO … UO still alive and doing well

Err yes.. to all three thanks for asking :-) used many combo’s from dd blossom cond build (little stealth o that) to dd backstab build and even the boring but effective p/d build. I also play Warrior and power necro.
And in the video… what were players stood around doing nothing when he casts shadow refuge? any decent players would have aoe’d the crap out of the place.

The point I’m getting at is I should have been singled out by Trahearne as I single handedly saved the pact from the Wrath.

Trahearne should have said something like ‘Yes a great victory for the pact and for a special member (me) who showed us the heart an determination we all need to show in the face of Zaitan’

And Thieves still say stealth is not OP :-)
Hit- stealth- hit- stealth – hit – stealth etc …

Again, Trahearne and the pact all died, leaving me alone to save the day…
I was the hero, not the pact…
When a soldier performs above and beyond the call of duty (as I did) then that deserves special recognition – especially as it is my story.

Sooo angry I had to post!!!!

Just finished the Lev 64 story (rescuing the Asura Archaeologists – then fighting the Wraith Boss, the one what likes to stun you all the time)
After a very hard fight (Necro) I finally managed to beat him and what happens in the cut scene…

‘Traherne you did it’ !! ’Trahearne’s leadership won the battle’ or words to that effect…

Trahearne did nothing apart from die – it was ME who saved the archaeologists, it was ME who defeated the champ wraith…
Not once does Trahearne say ‘thanks for your praise but it was this young hero here (points at me) who saved the day and saved all your lives’

Levelling up my 2nd character and at 64 and completed sparkfly fen and 90% done mount maelstrom (60-70 zone)…
There are s few events in these areas it is becoming very hard to level. (and the few are mainly group events which are next to impossible to do alone!

Anyone else found this?

Maybe in the update you could have tower/castle walls that can actually be defended (tall walls with arrow slits, like real castles)
As it is now, the invaders just aoe all the walls making it impossible to shoot at them from the walls.
The advantage of defence should be with the defenders not attackers…

Ok back to the drawing board :-)

I removed my Wrath eyes on my necro and it disappeared from my inventory….
So I did the trick of making a new necro with wrath eyes and transmuting them onto a white or green item then banking it and then use it on my original necro…

I just tried it and got the message (items transmuted will be soulbound)? does this mean the trick no longer works?

New to Necro and after reading a lot of posts/watching video’s I have come up with a power build which my or may not be useless so i’m looking for input from experienced players.
This is for single/small group WvWvW play

Dagger/whorn
Spite 30 – Death shiver – Spiteful spirit – Reapers blast
Curses 15 – Withering precision
Soul reaping 25 – Unyielding blast – Near to death

• can change CURSES to 20 for banshee call and reduce Soul reaping to 20*

Well darkness+suffering+spectral grasp (can swap for spectral wall)

Knights armour (for power/toughness) – Dolyak runes (for bonuses and regen)
Bezerker jewels/rings/amulet – for crit damage
Weapon upgrades – Accuracy +blood lust

The idea is to tab in and out of Ds for the bonuses, D3, drop wells, Wh5, d1

Would this work ok? of am I making an obvious rookie mistake? (maybe too much in ds attack as i’ll only be tabing in-and-out of it for bonuses)

Which trait affects the cripple? I looked but did not see one
