Well, since you’ve tested it out so extensively at this point, I’ll take your word for it.
Well, what other builds do you have other than healing power spec, healer? It has almost no boons to utilize, almost no conditions and the damage is non-existent.
When your spec is almost all raw healing, what else is there possible to build into?
When you spec druid, the rest of the ranger doesn’t stop existing. It’s one trait line. Try to think a little more dynamically about it.
The druid isn’t singular in it’s design. It’s not just by itself and that’s it.
You can (and certainly should) mix ranger base with it, the melee load outs in particular would mesh very well with it since staff for the druid is going to have impressive range.
Or, not at all. Who says you have to use staff with the druid?
You don’t have to over dedicate to the specialization. You’re thinking too linearly about it, as though you’ll be nothing but a healbot. You’ll still be expected to do some damage.
You’re not going to want to pretend you’re a monk from GW1, you can find plenty of useful utility in the druid line to mix with your ranger to bolster your offensive options.
Druid will indeed be a very strong healer like the elementalist or the guardian (maybe even better at this point).
But just like those classes, you’ll still have the battle at hand to deal with.
I have a hard time believing the meta will ever demand a full on healer at the expense of everything else, even in the new meta where berserkers won’t be as important.
The healer is going to be expected to bring some offense to the party, just like a water elementalist still has the fire, air, and earth line to contribute.
A ranger/druid can absolutely do that.
Rangers have excellent melee options, traps, and the utilities from both lines (base and elite) to support this kind of guerrilla warfare style of back and forth.
Druid is a perfect compliment to the ranger. If the ranger needs to be more support oriented (as a class that’s been referred to as selfish), druid is where it’s at.
That doesn’t take away from what the ranger can already do. As a ranger, I have no trouble getting credit for events or bags in WvW.
Druid doesn’t change that.
+1, couldn’t have said it better myself.
All my pet wishes have come true and the druid specialization is going to be a lot of fun in organized content. Couldn’t be happier with the reveal, they saved the best for last.
I just had a moderately annoying experience. After finishing a dungeon run with a PUG with relative ease, I asked if they wanted to do the next easy path in the dungeon, to which they replied “Kitten you” and immediately kicked me from the party. My guildie, who was running the dungeon with me, laughed when I said I had reported them for verbal abuse. I realize that they were probably joking but it’s so hard to tell via text alone.
Was I being melodramatic? Why do we put up with people like this? To tie this back to the title, I understand that almost a month ago, guild wars 2 went f2p or “free to try” or whatever. Could this be adversly affecting the amazing community (overall) that we have here?
“Hey, good run, wanna do another?”
PUG response: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-ycQlfOqyY
I dunno, I found it funny. That was very rude. I’m sorry you had a bad experience. Maybe he was having a bad day.

Maybe your karma sucks in real life and you’re being punished for it? Better grind some karma!
As long as we’re in conspiracy land anyway, this is one of the better ones. I tend to get better loot when I’m being a better person as opposed to a fiendish one.
Some days are better than others.
they will tell you they dont… but they do… not even gonna argue with anyone over it so dont bother…
They don’t punish individuals. Anet doesn’t hate you.
Despite your sarcasm, two noobs have gotten precursor drops in the same party ahead of me. One on his first dungeon run with me guiding. At the same time I’m getting pure junk with 192%+ magic find.
The odds are against that. So, I want to know why. Does magic find actually work? Did I offend some dev?
Yes, it could be pure chance… but seeing a smart kittened noob with an attitude walk away with the precursor I have been looking for for years has me a bit kittened.
RNG is RNG. That’s how it goes.
Mmmmm. Where’s their pet? Unless that hulking mass in the background is something, I spy no pet in their art.
Well, I mean you said it yourself. It’s a pet. As to what kind? Wyvern/Raptor/Trex dino pet things ala Jurassic Park pleeeeeeaaaaaaase? Plz plz plz plz plz plz…
I think it’s more interesting to use Nachos. Everyone loves nachos.
I don’t agree with the change to being might only, but I can see the logic in not wanting to make tempest even better at boon sharing than the mesmer (which did it first).
Heat Sync was really, really good with the boon sharing. Too good I guess.
Make it a blast finisher and include fury as a boon it can share (might and fury), and it’ll be acceptable to me.
Or if that’s too OP, pick between making it a finisher and might share, or might and fury share minus the blast finisher.
But yeah, sharing just might is… meh.
Heat sync was completely ripped from the Mesmer anyway, and totally stepped all over Signet of inspiration. The difference here is that Mesmer can’t self-generate many boons especially not the way ele can. (Based on my own research, I’m actually kind of lying, but that’s the general consensus so Ima totally run with it.)
I’d rather see Heat Sync reworked instead of nerfed, maybe like an inverse plague signet: “Turn up to 3 conditions on allies into boons.”
I like this idea also.
Cause even if none of the players want an Auramancer specilization it seems like we’re getting one regardless.
Mm, I remember at least several threads with people complaining about how the new trait revamp ruined their aura share signet builds.
I didn’t use that variety much myself (maybe a couple times in WvW), but it was a thing apparently.
Good news, everyone! It’s back!
“Man, that last Mordrem event sure was grindy! Why are you forcing me to grind?!”
“Oh no, they nerfed key farming! How will I grind for keys now?! ANET Y U NO LET ME GRIND!?”
Yes, so there would be no problem only limiting f2p accounts. That’s exactly my idea^^
Your idea doesn’t make any sense.
Bring back the love <3
So, I see one guy thinking that you’re trolling because you don’t know better and one random helping you out with something.
How is this proving that the community is toxic? You know based on this post, it could be inferred that you’re trying to start something over nothing.
In this thread alone several people are explaining the issue and one is apologizing on behalf of another person.
But gee, this community sure is toxic. Mmhm. Yep. Toxic. Much toxic. Very venom. Wow. Such poison.
Some quick thoughts:
In general, I don’t get the exaggerated hate people are giving the event in general.
None of the items are particularly exclusive and if you really want one of the potions, between being diligent about the daily bonus and watching the timer, you’ll get it before the event is over as long as you maintain silver+.
The selfless and selfish potions weren’t easy to get the first time and they shouldn’t be easy to get this time either.
Yes there are some issues with the event, but there’s some good ideas here as well that can be improved on.
The good:
I like the counter idea for meta-events completed within the event.
This kind of system essentially forces people to participate, there’s no real AFK room and I can really appreciate that.
At certain numbers people can (and will) drop off and that’s fine (human condition, GIFT, life), but they absolutely cannot tap something and AFK before that point.
That’s a great anti-AFK system for events.
The bad:
The events themselves are not designed around this system.
Anyone that over commits to a particular event is at a disadvantage to someone who does just enough to get credit and move on.
Ideas:
Either people need to be rewarded for committing to a particular meta event to be viable VS people who tap and move on, or/and maybe design events around tapping multiple meta events in this type of system.
e.g. “Thanks for the support character, X could really use your help now, get to it!” and promote moving around multiple meta events within the event.
Either way works. Maybe accommodate both?
Conclusion:
It’s an event. It’s not horrible. Nice break from the dry spell of activity from now till HoT (not including the beta events). Rocky start.
I trust the devs are going to get people who missed blooms their blooms and they’ll certainly learn from this going forward.
I wouldn’t be against extending the event for a day if Anet decides they still want to play with the community.
But if they feel this event just wasn’t up to snuff and given the outrage from most people, I’d understand not wanting to stand in the fire and wanting to wrap this up ASAP.
IMHO the reason why the community was nicer in the past was that the
content was so easy and mostly couldn’t fail. Nobody is calling people names
when a Worldboss takes a little longer .. but if it fails .. then i begins. So in the end, the more ANet listens to the “make it harder, give us more fails” croud
the more toxic the map chat will get.Difficulty is not a problem, TTW isn’t toxic. This event isn’t hard, if anything it is super easy. There are no rewards, that is the problem.
What is TTW ? I know that there are at least a lot of discussions about people
wanting to kick other players out of SW because they are AFK or even want
to report them or whatever.Never heared anything like that for example at Shatterer or Clawmag and
especially never before the fail timers where introduced. Also i wouldn’t say that SW is hard .. but it has a decent failchance, and if it
fails then people always seek someone to blame for.Oh .. and the “no reward” idea is also someting that came from the community
i think .. so that only people who “work hard” are worthy to get loot and that
it is not “just another farmfest where you only spam #1”Sadly Anet don’t do "effort/risk/reward content they prefer players to run like an angry swarm of headless chickens around a map in the hope they can tag something quick enough before having to follow the zerg to the next blip on the mini map…
Maybe that’s what they see as work hard with the added twist of making the rewards almost only achievable if you deprive your self of sleep and sanity for the length of the whole event, whilst holding out hope that such rubbish can hold players interest long enough to be able to sink enough gold from them and promote gemstore bling for a few extra day to boost gem sales.
Yeah this is getting a bit OT. But I’ll bite.
There’s nothing wrong with the event post-fix. They’ve apologized for the buggy start and assured everyone who missed out on some mordrem blooms will be compensated.
In ~4 days time with the daily bonus and a round or two after every daily finishing in the 10+ window for events complete, you’ll be able to get essentially whatever one thing you want from the event.
If you’re nuts hardcore, you’ll be able to get maybe two or three non-potion items. Make your choice(s) and plan accordingly.
This was never meant to be a “grind your heart out for every single reward on this list”. It’s a change of pace for people that wanted something to break the dry spell between now and HoT (besides the beta events).
A secondary feature is that you can get something really nifty out of it.
Really, try to have fun. That’s the point of this thing. If it’s no good for you, the rest of the game is still there.
This is often why maps turn toxic because the game isn’t functioning well enough to encourage players to play it rather than AFK it or "tag and run it
Yeah, no. If nothing else the format for this event is fantastic for countering AFKers.
If I have to choose between people running around to get the highest point count VS a format where people can tag something and then AFK for the rest of the event, I’d gladly choose this format going forward.
If you mean stop it mid attack, the default key should be Esc. This cancels any move with a cast time. You can remap it.
If you mean stop it from doing it’s auto-attack automatically after you press it, you want to hold shift (left) and right click the skill with your mouse.
Now it’ll only attack if you manually press it. Useful for saving charges. Do the same thing to turn it back on.
So i played this game for over a year then my computer went poof and i moved a few times. I am back to play again but i feel so lost. i have a level 80 for each class, but i dont understand how the skills are allocated anymore.
I am curious if there is a veteran noob guide out there
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/wiki/newplayers
… or better yet maybe A-net can make this part of the game ? i know… wishful thinking.
ANet love to cite this as a particularly friendly/helpful community, but I think that’s only really true when you come from the lower standards you get after playing many other MMOs.
Well, yes. And it is vastly better in comparison. I’ve played a few MMOs and GW2 is bar none the friendlier of communities.
The internet as a whole though is a… unique… brand. As such that includes GW2. To a lesser degree certainly, but that’s just how it goes on the internet.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GIFT
Anet can’t fix the human condition.
Yeah, I don’t really use MDG as it is now. It looked good on paper but in practice it doesn’t work. This thread has several great ideas to bring it up to par though.
I hope it get’s looked at. It’s a cool concept.
Who can realistically afford those out of control gem prices now?
Players can. Players do. Players control the price of gold to gems and gems to gold. That’s why the prices are the way the way they are.
It also has a lot to do with the anniversary sale, people want the nifty gem store stuff. And so it goes with the price as it is now.
I don’t know what you’re after then. I’m sorry. Hope you find it.
Can you get anything that looks like real armor in the wardrobe?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scholar
But to answer your question, sort of. There are a choice few armors when combined that can give a kinda-sorta armored look.
There are also a few outfits will absolutely give you a heavy armor look.
Outside of the outfits though, you shouldn’t really expect much of a plated armor look for your elementalist.
It’s a scholar class.
Shopping for clothes is a horrible experience for a Sylvari Male, or males in general, really.
Nah, GW2 is actually pretty good about this kind of thing. Even a lot of the robe type armor tends to be open ended and you are in fact wearing pants.
And of course there are a few armors that are straight up pants. Compared to other MMOs banana dress, I’m quite happy with GW2’s selection for male magic users.
Mixing and matching can get you some really cool looking combos.
Oh you terrible person you! Public shaaaaame… no, but really. This is worthless.
If they are not willing to hear you out, you have your answer in regards to whether the relationship can be salvaged.
Sometimes a lesson is learned the hard way.
I don’t know what constitutes a joke for you but if that involved abusing a position of power over someone, maybe rethink your sense of humor. Yeah?
Take care buddy.
When it get’s low on health, it bucks off it’s rider and savagely devours them. Still want the mount?
They need to test these things on live, it’s necessary.
No they do not and no it isn’t.
It is every bit as much an objective fact that they do not need to test these things on live as it is that he is not being forced to play during a beta test.
That said,
OP, it is a few days out of the month. Not really a big deal IMO, and development does likely benefit from the larger test environment.
Closed environment != Live environment
Things happen (more variables, etc) on live that do not happen on internal tests and the internal/closed servers. There’s no real substitute for the live environment.
One of the reasons it took them a while to track down several of the challenge mote bugs for S2.
It also serves to allow the players to communicate issues and offer feedback. I thought we wanted more communication, not less?
It is absolutely necessary.
I’m sure if I dig for it I can find at least two posts from the devs that have expressed such sentiments.
But yeah, I’m not committing to that effort. You’ll have to do your own homework if you want confirmation to that end.
This is a strawman argument.
As is your premise.
Anet forcing players to beta test
Anet isn’t forcing anyone to do anything. If you hate it so much, don’t participate. It’s that simple. You can live without GW2 for a weekend.
Right?
I want to pvp without beta content. I didnt sign up for a beta. I want to play what I payed for, not test unbalanced content.
Its not hard to understand.
Also, “as is your premise”? What? How can I make a strawman argument when I wasnt arguing against someones argument at all? You clearly dont know what strawman even means
The existence of this frivolous, asinine thread is an argument. A very poor one but here it is. Who’s fault is that?
It’s based on a false premise, that you are being forced to do something. You are not. That’s an objective fact. It’s not very hard to understand. You’re just being petty.
It’s one weekend. They need to test these things on live, it’s necessary. You do not have to be a part of it. Resume your normal PvP activities after the beta event.
Is there anything else buttercup? Need to be reminded to breath or anything?
This is a strawman argument.
As is your premise.

Right?
GW2 has a great community. You experienced an outlier. Simple as that. Don’t let it get you down.
In the future, try to avoid “speed run” groups or “all berserker” specific groups as those tend to be less forgiving and more prone to outlier behavior.
Look for things like “casual”, “for fun”, or “all welcome”. And in general if they don’t specify, have a go.
If they abuse you in that instance it’s likely a reportable offense depending on how far they go.
But most players are not min/maxing and trying to speed run through things. Those that are will advertise the fact. It’s in their best interests.
And if they don’t, it was you who taught them a lesson at the cost of their time.
Many seasoned players will be happy to help you learn the ropes and most are forgiving of occasional wipes.
If you don’t have one already, you should try and find a local guild on your server that shares your ideals and goals.
More so than random strangers (but in GW2 yes, the random stranger is a friendlier breed than most MMOs by far), guildies will absolutely help you.
Some of the mordrem have mounts. When they get low on health, the mount eats their rider and finishes the fight solo.
They are really cool looking mounts, though.
You arent hardcore unless you do this in sPvP.
That would be awesome, honestly. Play the game modes as intended, but, don’t die. No second chances.
If all three caps are claimed, game over. If the enemy team is wiped, game over. Give bonuses, refuge, etc for each individual cap point.
I think custom arena’s have such an option (turn off respawning) for those inclined.
It is a reasonable request.

It can spawn in two places in that area.
Directly on top of Crash Site 3 in the debris there, and also in the Inquest base area (where the Experimental Aspect Suit spawns.)
If it’s not in one place it’s in the other. If you don’t see it, you can’t find it because you’re a bookah for some inexplicable reason or you already mined it.
You can only mine the quartz nodes in DT once a day/per daily reset. Hope this helps.
Solution to D/D ele [FAIR SUGGESTION]
Hmm, okay. Fair is good. I’ll give this a loo—
I’ll start with simple saying:
D/D eles are like spoiled kids
And, I stopped.
You realize i haven’t say anything in the ranger forum?
Yeah, I remember you.
DD ele is definitely a problem. It is the only class, to my knowledge, which can be stacked four to a team at the tournament level and succeed. Other classes are strong and versatile, but none are anywhere near that level. This means (obviously) that top level players are having problems fighting it, invalidating your claim to the contrary.
Is that why the ESL stacking rule applies to every class, and not just to the elementalist specifically as they did with the vampiric runes?
If it’s an elementalist problem exclusively, they’ve already set the standard with vampiric runes as specifically targeting the elementalist.
As it is, that is not the case. If the basis for your argument is the ESL rules put in place, my claim still stands to reason.
When ESL is now actively restricting class stacking due to Ele pretty much guarantees anets attention
Elementalist stacking isn’t restricted from ESL any more than any other class.
We should get a FULL refund, or the expansion free… at this point I’d personally rather have a refund… Wonder if they could be sued??
Are you ser—no. No. Nope. No way. Later.

I didn’t meant to sound harsh. I too defend eles, but if there’s an issue with D/D we should humbly try and check if it’s real or not…
I didn’t find you harsh. You and I do not agree mind you, but I can appreciate your thoughts on the matter and I respect your humility to that end.
Limited scenarios in which this would be useful, open for abuse, slippery slope, etc. The restrictions are fine, and could actually be limited further with WvW.
With www, pvp, dungeons, and decrease max lv to 60.!
That would only encourage players to shun F2P users.
Ideally, people won’t be tools and use F2P accounts to mess with WvW. It’s still too new to tell what’s going to happen, so it’s up to the players what happens in that regard.
If it becomes a problem, simply restrict F2P accounts to the Edge of The Mists for WvW. Issue is solved instantly.
Anyone actually tested that yet. The F2P FAQ only says that they can’t send items or gold, nothing about receiving them.
I haven’t, no. I assumed that much. I could be wrong.
Negative, ghost rider.
It’s an odd scenario you’re presenting no less. Two F2P friends wanting to send each other gear? These are some learned newbies, seeing as it came out just today.
You’re obviously not a F2P user since you’re posting here. If you have F2P friends, why not help them out yourself?
(edited by CETheLucid.3964)
- Nerfing burning damage and celestial amulet (sPvP-related) won’t do any good. There’s a new class incoming, and several elite specs. The OP issue lies in the D/D composition, plus our traits which strengthen it too much.
What I read: Don’t nerf burning and celestial stats for other classes, just nerf DD ele. What if burning damage and the cele amulet are a problem?
- There should be a consensus for what is broken weapon-wise: offhand dagger, or mainhand dagger? We know that having both in hands makes eles OP for many situations, and it’s difficult to counter.
First we’d have to agree that daggers for ele are broken. We don’t. They’re not.
We should not be able to overwhelm in every single aspect: survivability, control, and damage (direct + condition).
We agree on this much, and I can honestly tell you DD does not reign supreme in all of these aspects.
- We should also analyze 1v1 against most common builds from other classes.
1v1 doesn’t mean much in regards to class balance.
- We should take into account Revenant + Mallyx legend and its ability to be severly boon-hate, paired with some other potential class we could be pwned for good, unless we drop a spec for Earth.
Boon hate is a hard counter for ele, yes. Necro’s are getting more and we’re getting a new class that can spam it.
But DD needs a nerf, right?
Gloves have never been hideable on costumes, only the head gear. I doubt they will change this just for the wedding dress.
They’re hideable for some outfits, not all.
The “invisible, away, online” status should always be obviously visible and immediately accessible in the interface—both in game and in the character select screen. We shouldn’t have to open the “contacts” window to see/change the status. Please improve this.
It worked like you’re asking in the past, but it was changed to “remember” the last setting you set it for.
It was changed because people wanted to be able to login invisible. I can understand wanting to login invisible.
It’s not a major inconvenience IMO.
That’s why they implemented the WvW changes. Imagine T1/T2 servers with already 50 players queue getting swarmed by hundreds of new players..
haha
now wvw f2p spotter and destroy trebs ,…. acc income
if they get banned… just create another acc and keep on trolling
was already discussed at 10$ sale but now it will going evil
Annnnd F2P/trial-till-you-buy accounts are restricted to Edge of The Mists for WvW.
source?
and one year old and still used at trail weekend that shaman data mining doesnt count as legal source at this topic
That was my response to your idea that people will make F2P accounts to spy and ruin WvW. That came from common sense.
If it happened in the past as Zaron suggests, that would be the easiest and obvious solution to that.
and btw acess to map reward system also dont get the regular buyers just the hot buyers.
in your face old “verterans” who dont buy hot . welcome to the f2p player pool

Also, yes. The reasonable thing to do about potential F2P laurel farmers would be to simply not award them to F2P accounts.
T6 mats are going to be easier to come by with the new map reward system, so those prices are going down regardless.
But not because potential F2P accounts are going to crash the market.
Betting 1g that this is their only countermesure: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/SMS-Restrictions-and-New-Accounts/first#post5424976
If they had such heavy (but reasonable) restrictions in the past for trial accounts, I don’t see why they’d go a step backwards if they are going to do a F2P/trial until you buy setup.
If they followed that format going forward for free accounts, that would be totally fine. That would be the reasonable thing in my mind.
You’re on. 1g says there’s more to it than just SMS restrictions.
Because advertising a free trial is different then advertising a free game.
Yes, but that doesn’t mean throwing out an elaborate system made to prevent people from ruining the game with free accounts.
At any rate, I’m good for my word. A deal is a deal. If this rumor is true and it ends up just being SMS restrictions and nothing else, I’ll mail you 1g.

My point being it’s not going to spike overnight, which sounded like what you were implying.
It wasn’t. I can’t see how you got that idea.
And it doesn’t matter if they buy HoT or not. More people out and about in an MMO is normally a good thing.
And we agree.
Oops, didn’t quote the post I was replying too.
No worries. It’s not a big deal. This is all a bunch of rumors and conjecture anyway.
