SoS 3.0 - No NA/Ocx Guilds needed

Welcome to WoR. We’re now expanding our nighttime dominance into early morning/SEA.
We’re still looking for dedicated havoc groups NA, some EST NA (or SA).

Lastly we’d love to be joined by some EU folks. As the server that was picked before launch to be an international server, you’ll find us to be a great group to play with.

Don’t be shy, we still run with hardly any queues and there is plenty of room left.

Likes:
1. Open fighting
2. Difficult, yet not impossible sieges
3. Gear for badges (still one of the best places to get specific exotic gear)

Dislikes:
1. Loot scaling compared to PvE (PvE probably should have more, but the proportions are not at all on the same level (get more in 30 min of PvE than 3 hr of WvW).
2. Lack of mechanics to cause penalty for zerging (broader range supply traps, debuff, etc)
3. The delay in white swords displaying (made sense at the time, now with ram mastery and anti-npc buffs; it’s simply a 3 second warning that something is about to flip.

Scarlet's Secret Lair *Major Spoilers*

I’m a little surprised that no one has considered that Scarlet is Mordremoth’s Lieutenant/Champion?

Think back to Svanir (the original). He wasn’t corrupted against his will, he reached out to the power dormant under the lake (it was a Claw of Jormag I believe). Scarlet’s back story makes sense in this context.

The pale tree took an aggressive stance towards Zhaitan, with the very first Sylvari being leader of the Pact and leading the fight against that dragon.

A jungle dragon (residing in the same neighborhood no less) would doubtlessly see the Sylvari as the greatest threat; especially since they are resistant to direct corruption. It would make a lot of sense that this dragon is the source of the Nightmare, perhaps if the Sylvari were completely removed from the Pale Tree they would be corruptible.

There is Scarlet’s dream of the tree being attacked and bled by red thorns (scarlet briar, by name).

The pure speculation is what is Scarlet attempting. As pointed out in this thread, the dragons are not friendly on any terms. Mordremoth has no confirmed presence on the surface of Tyria, nor seems to have an area under his control with armies of minions like the other dragons have. That means he was either last to awaken or at least has had the least amount of access to magical items to feed off of.

I think Scarlet, on Mordremoth’s orders; is attempting to use Primordus (and his minions) as a cat’s paw to attack the primary sources of resistance. Since the Pact’s orders and the Lion’s Guard are the 4 organizations with international reach; they would react strongly if he were to attack the Pale Tree directly.
If those forces were heavily distracted, Mordremoth could attack the Pale Tree freely.

This would make Trahearne need to abadon his post to defend his homeland, which would effectively dissolve the Pact. The Tyrian forces would be scattered, leaderless, missing 1/5th of their troops and under-siege.

Even if the remnants somehow drive off or even defeat Primordus, Mordremoth can wreck the Pale Tree; opening the Sylvari (doubtlessly the Nightmare Court first) to corruption and setup his own operating area.

As a bonus, I predict that his “operating base” will be Majesty’s Rest since it’s an established focal point of magical energy (and with many ageless, magical artifacts in the tomb).

Yeah, I’m really hoping time travel becomes possible in the near future. It would solve folks missing old content n’ such. Also, it might have some neat ideas gleaned from the canceled GW1 expansion: Utopia.

I had totally forgotten about the chronomancers and stuff (early designs with clockwork armor might I add.)

It would be nice to see the LS merge with the main storyline again, instead of being this constant “oh now what?” aside.

It’s a good time to consider Sea of Sorrows. We continue to gain guilds and individuals, moving towards having a presence online 24/7. With a huge OCX population, some dedicated SEA, one very hard working EU guild, and NA with many experienced guilds; we are growing well and are having a great time in Tier 2.

Why would anyone WANT to swap servers to BG?

Chris.3290

What I’m stating, born out by the facts: is that if you compared the numbers/coverage of the WvW dedicated (meaning folks that WvW more than 75% of the time) population of all three T2 servers (TC, FA, and SoS) put them on a theoretical empty server and put them into T1; that BG would STILL outnumber/outcoverage that server overall.

I doubt it. A lot of BG is PvX, rather than dedicated WvW. It’s when our PvXers come into WvW in force that our PPT shoots up, and drops away again when they’re not (e.g. Living story update). I personally probably spend 60% of my time in WvW at best, but I consider myself to be fairly WvW focused. It’s also how we tend to avoid burnout, because there’s a fairly steady rotation of players in WvW. There’s a few dedicated WvW guilds during NA and SEA, but none in EU (early EST and late SEA covers that) and Oceanic (late PST and early SEA covers that).

That’s not to say we don’t have players in those time zones, so let me make this quite clear. We don’t have the guilds in those time zones. In fact, I’m pretty sure SoS has a larger Oceanic WvW population than BG. We would still out PPT a SoS/FA/TC mix though, I’m sure, because of our strong SEA coverage, which can go toe to toe with JQ’s SEA.

Overall population, but I’m only counting WvW dedicated groups. You’d never know it from the T2 forum chatter, but our WvW focused population in OCX is actually smaller than our NA focused population.
Our casual and PvX bump is completely massive however and really helps out.

BG dominates SEA, EU, holds it’s own in NA; and seems to outperform in OCX (whenever I have checked) despite being “lacking” in this zone. Whether or not this is due to extra effort by NA and SEA is unknown by me, but there does not appear to be any appreciable gap (JQ was anemic in OCX before some of MERC came over) and SoR is so on the outs that it’s impossible to tell what times work for them anymore.

I can say that our teamspeak during Oceanic (1-5am~ish) is 40% NA, 30% Aus/NZ, 30% SEA early on, becoming something like 20% NA, 20% Aus/NZ and 60% SEA as it gets late. Consider that we have a total of around 50-80 people in all WvW maps put together during oceanic (remembering that we have a lot of PvE players playing in EBG, same as any other server), and you can see how small our Oceanic WvW population is, not counting PvX (which makes up the majority of our coverage and the reason for inconsistent PPT).

Plus, I think a big reason why so few from BG are online in that time is cause the Oceanic time zone in general is a dead zone. There’s very few fights. If there are, you’re facing a giant blob of 50+ SoR or JQ made up of NA staying up and SEA logging on early, combined with whatever Oceanic guilds they have online. It gets old pretty quick. Most of our Oceanic players play either NA or SEA these days and just avoid OCE in general.

50-80 being considered a dead-zone, then you point out that there is a lack of fights from the other servers at this time.

Not saying that BG does not still have it’s challenges. I’m sure if KnT or AoI, or other large guilds took a week off that you would see a large dip in points; but your weakest time zone has 50-80 (hold your corner of EB, your BL, and havoc on enemy BL’s?) and the other two don’t have much more in numbers.

Look at today. When I first responded to Siegfried, JQ was slightly ahead and BG was at +250. In the last 4 hours BG dipped as low as +150 but are now at +360 going into early NA. If the best the 2nd place server can do is 4 hours of dominance over you, I think it’s game over in Tier 1.

Communication is important, even if it’s idle banter or just telling us for certain what they are NOT working on and what they WON’T be working on.

I think the most telling communication concerning where WvW priorities lie; was the CDI on commander changes.

Devon asked if people would want the color changes now or a lot of changes later.

The fact that they do not have either the permission or the resources to make easier to implement changes while working on greater changes tells me one of two things:
1. They do not care
2. Or they are working on something huge, and it will be for not; because by the time they can roll it out no one will care anymore.

Communication would fix #2 problems and probably get us hyped; if it’s #1 then they are following script perfectly.

I’m not sure you appreciate how sensitive the community is to any/all information that is released. Every word every dev said is analyzed through a micro-scope and stored in some troll bank to be used as ammo at some later date. It’s staggering how fast a community will use their words against them, or straight-up harass the developer posts that DO happen.

If you want more communication, start by trying to teach the community how to communicate professionally and understand that sometimes plans change. Maybe then you’ll see more red posts here.

you suggest I teach civility to the internet? Sorry, no time for that. I’m too busy inviting FTL drives for the neighborhood space program. I’m also very close to cold fusion.

The point I’ve been making the whole time, is that BG has to keep recruiting guilds and can never admit that they have enough. Not until there are queues on every map at every hour can they slow down recruitment. Complacency and boredom are probably driving people on BG to PvE in droves. It’s not by chance that they killed Tequatl first; it was probably all WvW burnouts.

Keep these accusations coming some of them are just funny. Are you still bitter about BG replacing SoS in tier 1 a year later. The attachment below is not about the mesmer, but a specific buff

You ask for an instance (because you are lazy) of someone implying that BG needs more people and then you post a picture of the outmanned buff.

Please find a time, any time that BG consistently ticks under +230ppt. I don’t mean for a few seconds or randoms screenshots. I mean, give me a 2-3 hour timeframe (early EU, late NA, etc) that BG ticks less than 1/3 of the possible PPT up for grabs. I’ll dutifully check the scores at that time for a few days/nights and see if it happens.

Tell me that there is any gap, consistently, is lacking for longer than an hour.

And for the last time, Ancient History has nothing to do with it. I like a lot of people on BG but so many forum warriors trying to make it sound like BG does not have a numbers/coverage advantage (at the moment) will make anyone with a brain call BS.

For clarification, there is no implication that BG swarms WvW with impunity. I’m sure that even in times of lower coverage, there are fights to be had and JQ or SoR will often have the advantage in numbers during individual encounters.
I’m not trying to take anything away from good fights and victories that BG (or any server) earns in those situations.

And that BG would recruit heavily to match any time discrepancies in said matchup is also not in doubt.

This will just push small scale combat more and more towards condition damage.

I don’t know how this will affect WvW meta, but since I haven’t seen any news of buffing siege bunker; I assume this makes siege even more powerful.

Some servers pay guilds to transfers, but that was before leagues and I wouldn’t bet on it.

Looking at Mos it seems that BG is fast approaching the point that it’s winning by so much that they can’t possibly gain more rating.

So yeah, it’s time to end the “we aren’t stacked” charade. No one (outside of T1) is not claiming that the skill of BG guilds are not a factor (coverage and numbers only do so much, look at TC); but any claims that BG is somehow lacking in numbers needs to end.

Three options that are viable (other than quitting).

A. Recruit the few people left who WvW into your guild. Constantly promote your guild and TS3 participation

B. See if someone else is doing the same and join them. Even a small group could grow into something bigger.

C. Transfer. A lot of former Kaineng guilds moved to Sea of Sorrows and you’d see some familiar names there.

You increase necros however, their effectiveness does stack.

If I could custom put together a perfect group for non-blob combat:

4 necros, 4 eles
2 mesmers

That’s the perfect zerg right there. Enough power roll larger groups but no gaps.

As for order of importance if you are running a a group

It was actually a compliment. With your defense; no one really wants to see YB develop offensive capabilities.
The other reason for nausea is that we could go back down to T3 tonight and we want to make that visit as short as possible. YB can’t go on a major offensive and Maguuma doesn’t PPT, so it’s not that tall of an order.

I’ll say it again. The problem with AC’s is Superior AC’s, Mastery, and Windowed Mode. Power creep has made them bad.

I agree with this. I really want to see siege bunker buffed quite a bit to offset the power creep.

No to the OP, but yes to this. Give individuals greater ability to survive siege, but keep siege where it is so it can be destroyed by organized defense.

During my prime OC and SEA timezones, JQ and SOR way outnumber BG’s coverage. Last night was a perfect example with SOR & JQ running 60-80+ zergs 2v1 BG over garrison. There were some awesome fights though and surprised we held it from both of you for as long as our maybe 30-40 did. Oh, and gotta love the lag!
Thumbs up though for continued determination and effort! It must be frustrating losing constantly, l know as l transferred from Kaineng some months ago. I think it’s awesome you keep up moral and there are still plenty of good fights to be had during OC & SEA timezones.
The 2v1 last night certainly highlighted the issues with the lack of server rotations so l hope Anet takes notice of this thread. Something needs to change more than a new map.

I think the +410ppt you have at 8am kind of renders a slight population imbalance at night moot. You are beating your closest competition (that you claim outnumbers you 2 out of 4 timezones, and equals you in 1 of the remaining 2) by 20k and the next closest competitor by almost 100k.

T1 was formerly the closest matchups in all of NA, now it’s only surpassed by T4 (DB pushed down too far) and T3 (YB hugging towers and Magummies don’t PPT).

That’s not counting SoR’s point difference either, the gap between JQ and BG is greater than any other two servers of similar standing.

BG has earned it’s spot, but it’s time to stop implying that your increasingly lopsided victories is skill overcoming greater numbers.

I’ve seen some PvT engis that do pretty darn good as frontliners.
The problems about “heavies to the gate” not including engis is that you lose your toughness bonus when you man a ram, and most heavies don’t spend a long time at the gate. The only boon to being at the gate is flamethrower going through it. Most groups aren’t stupid enough to stand at the gate during a defense.

Considering how most Engi skills are condition based in nature; it plays against type and you fall into same situation as LB rangers and venomshare thieves that you can run with the zerg; but don’t really add a lot to the party.

Dear Guards, Why Me?

I can give a great argument for everything but a ranger.

Warriors = toughness and vitality stacking with high damage

Guardians = high toughness + support

Necros = high condition damage means high DPS

Eles = high damage or high support

and so on. Depends if anyone is min/maxing any stats.

Do ppl seriously wonder why Devon stopped posting?

it’s because every time he has posted something, he just gets kittened all over. No one gets paid enough to endure that kind of abuse.

The problem is that they put a dev (who should be spending his time developing and testing) as the contact. They should have had a outreach person (look for someone unflappable) be the contact. That person of course would be in contact with the WvW dev team, sit in their meetings and planning sessions, etc. Also they would be knowledgeable and would frequently participate in WvW on different servers during different timezones, etc.

That would be too proactive however.

Why would anyone WANT to swap servers to BG?

lol BG is full server now… bandwagon reached it’s limit it seems xD

oh don’t worry, if you are bringing a guild over they will have some large groups log off for a few minutes.

Plus, don’t count out the devs yet. Just because they don’t have the time to update WvW doesn’t mean they don’t have the time to expand server caps again.

I remember SoS did that back in the day >_>

Yes, we did. That’s why I’m sure BG would do it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not casting judgement on BG (despite continuing this thread with it’s snide title) but merely pointing out the absurdities that go into maintaining a #1 server.

I have lots of respect for PvX folks who do a little of both, but if the acquisition of wealth is your goal; WvW is not going to hold your interest.
What makes the game format work is the people who keep fighting when there is no loot to be had and keep fighting despite high repair bills and holding out during off hours and against larger servers. That’s the only way servers grow and do better is by fighting in those situations.
If everyone were there for loot, they’d abandon ship in the tough times. The better guilds would leave, and you end up with a dead server.

No thanks. I’d rather have a smaller, more consistent force than a map blob demanding karma trains.

Dear YB, what is wrong with you?

You should transfer to Maguuma. We’re much more friendly.

Oh yeah, the Magummys have SUCH respect for people who man siege…..

@ Chris: yaks and eBay would double team bp anyway then yaks would rise back up, they becoming the Pve server they always have been slowly.

But looking at mos. fa is completely owning tc. Did tc lose guilds to fa or they on break?

FA got two guilds from SoR, and both SoS and FA realized that either could roll low and end up in T3. Both servers have large night populations who get nauseous at the thought of another week of SBI blobbing and YB’s arrow cart fetish.

Whacutalkin bout Chris? SBI is going to roll high this week so it’ll be us, TC and FA and you and Mag and Yaks. That should be fun right?

We are gaining the exact number of points that you are right now, so the odds will be the same as they were last week when we jumped into T2. All we need to do is roll a little higher than you to stay.

Besides, our points are increasing during the week (and you know how we roll on Fridays) while Maguuma tends to pick itself up during the week.

Either way, the cruel lords of RNG will be the deciding factor.
