Grenade damage reduced 30%

Told you guys this would happen.

First you complain that Grenades are the only way to play, now you kitten that its not. You guys are making this game horrible with your constant whining.

Play a Thief or Warrior and the game wont be as bad.
The reason Grenades were considered the only way to play was because the profession set up basically forces you to use a kit. ANET states exactly that, MH weapons are weaker because of our kit options, to me that is ANET saying that the only viable way to play an Engineer is to play with a kit. Out of all the kits the grenades have the most appeal to the widest range of ppl.

Bomb kit is tricky to use and also looks stupid, just running around swinging your arm dropping terracotta pots on the ground.
EG is support.
FT is bugged.
Toolkit was difficult to use, then they patched it, now it is alot cooler but still difficult to use. (as much as I love TANKCAT, its also a gimmick build that is defeated when you fight someone smart enough not to kill themselves with confusion)

Grenades were just a love/hate thing with most ppl.
PPL have had nothing but negatives to say about turrets and yet those havent been touched at all.

They claim the class has versatility but that only counts in dungeons where you know what is coming. Unless you can tell the future in PvP you would have to run around with three kits to get the “versatility” they claim compensates for our weakness.

In the end Engineers just have to wait another few months or so untill ANET figures out what the hell they really want to do with this thrown together profession.

No, this would be valid had they decreased the damage after making stats effects kits, not well before such a change occurred. Doing it the way you’re insinuating is downright silly.

WRONG.

That’s not how real game-balance works for regular-update MMOs. I know because I play LoL, and they do this ALL THE TIME. And a few LoL designers worked very closely with ANet in the development of GW2.

Developers will put out what’s ready to be shipped.

This time, it was sigils and they needed to get the nerf out first. The stats come later.

And yes, that does mean an overall nerf for the time being.
Get over it.

Well ppl complaining to vent frustration is a way of “getting over it.”

And since sometime in the future they plan on fixing the rendering bug in WvW shouldn’t they nerf the Thieves attacks right now?
And since they are sometime in the future going to fix the gate bypass exploits in WvW shouldn’t they nerf the Mesmer portal right now?

Seems like we are one of the few professions that got pre-nerfed for something they will probally do in the future.
This isn’t LoL, ppl paid money for this game and there is more to this game than tPvP.

So nerf the only kit they buts eng on par with other classes…..makes sense.

Yeah, it does make sense:

Cause they plan to make kits scale with weapon damage too – Confirmed by a red post

Cmon, keep up, people! You’re all so behind the curve.

Okay then they can nerf it AFTER they make it scale with weapon damage.

Heaven forbid we should get to play with a specific kit and build that could possibly be a little on the strong side. Engineers are one of if not the least played profession, why not have something to attract more ppl to play, the more ppl that play the more accurate the information you gather about professions is.

I hardly play this game anymore as it is because there isnt much incentive to do anything unless you want to collect skins. But with the way they keep fiddle kittening with stupid little balance issue instead of fixing things that flat out don’t work makes me wonder how long this game is going to last.

Seems like all they care about is trying to balance tPvP.

A. grenades are crazy op. Their ratios are out of control compared to everything else. they needed a nerf. or grenadier and steel packed did.
B. adding damage to blind and poison is nice buff.
“pvp and pve” are the same, could be a buff or nerf. well see.
30% of pve or pvps values?

Grenades without grenadier is now unplayable probably..

OP is being able to outplay everyone else in any situation without them being able to counter it. (like the rendering issue does for medicore+ thieves)
Its not a skill that happens to do alot of damage if you manage to land hits with it.

Grenades are only OP when you are throwing them at target dummies.
Grenade kit is a carpal tunnel inducing key smashing fest that does little more than clear out an area/wall.
Math only matters when you are guaranteed every hit will land.
If you get killed by Grenades 90% of the time its because you were just standing there or you would of just as easily been killed with any other skill.

This nerf also just seems to prove that all of our other kits were SO weak before that they did not also require a nerf.
So Sigils affecting all the other kits only brings them up to par from there obvious former weakness.

And what about weapon stats aplying to kits?

Heh, I am kinda afraid of them doing that now!
They will probally cut grenade damage by 50% to compensate.

I mean since EVERY sigil there is adds more damage they obviously had to nerf nades to compensate, not like there are utility/health sigils out there.

Are grenades really that powerful!? They’ve been nerfed twice now.
Were our other kits SO weak that they did not also require a damage reduction to compensate for Sigils?

Why Stealth?

CriSPeH.8512

Pssst. Those who can’t fight heavy stealth builds, here’s a bit of advice. It’s from pistol/dagger condition builds.
a) Run condition removal
b) Dodge

How do you think the thief keeps stealthing? Certainly not through repeated utility bar skills because there aren’t enough of them. Yup, you got it. Cloak and dagger. A kissing range ability, which they have to be out of stealth to use else it just reveals them.

Ta da, one dodge roll, nearly half initiative wasted on a missed ability. Thank me later.

Less you are a Ranger and they C&D your pet or C&D anything else that happens to be around.

I guess we will have to thank you later……

^ Agree with jagabs.5086:
If it was made so that you could see condition effects on stealthd enemies I would have no complaints about it at all.
If they are burning I should be able to see the flame effect.
This way they might actually have to deploy some real strategy and clense before hiding.

I am sure I could be wrong but I really think Turrets should act like Ranger pets. So you can only have one out at a time but they should be made much more usefull. You should be able to direct what they target and they should all have an Offensive and Defensive skill while deployed.

So Flame turret would keep Smoke Screen but instead of the Throw Napalm TB skill it would have Shoot Napalm as a longer range attack.

Medkit feels so clunky.

CriSPeH.8512

I don’t think the med kit is bad at all but I do have trouble using it. Its hard to manage if you have other kits equipped and it seems like at least one of my packs always fails to drop.

I personally would rather have it be:

-#1 Be a channeled skill that will drop up to 3 med packs.

Then maybe #2 could be a toss medic satchel that will allow a certain amount of ppl to interact with it and regain health and vigor.
and #3 could be an injection that gives protection.

New siege and constructs. Ideas?

More defense options for sure.

I’d like to see some smaller options. Something that requires just 10 supply. It would be nice for low levels to help them do real damage against people without dying in 2 hits. Put level limits on it if necessary.

I agree some smaller type siege would be nice.
Maybe something like a telescope or observation tower to help with trebs.
or a little scanner post that will reveal enemies that get close.
Some type of small buildable wall to run behind to get cover from ballistas.

For big siege I think an airship would be awesome. It would take tons of supplies to build and could only get shot down from some type of Anti-Air siege cannons that maybe could only be built inside keeps. The airship would just slowly circle the map and allow ppl to “drop pod” down from it and maybe commanders could even call in airstrikes. Maybe even ship to ship battles.

Engineers have Kits, Gadgets, Turrets, Elixirs and RNG

- #1 Throw Nuts & Bolts ( I am a Master Engineer I do not have Junk)
- #2 Magnetic Overload – Pulls all nearby enemies to you
- #3 Booby Trap – This is fine
- #4 Elixir D – Drink once to slowly restore health*, Drink again to randomly Rez yourself, Kill yourself or refresh all CD.

*slower than bandage does but does not need channel

Yes it is stupid.
Anet doesn’t seem to care as much about WvW as PVE and sPvP which I think is a huge mistake. sPvP for Esports is great and all but you are only attracting certain players with it and the way the game is set up to play sPvP you don’t actually have to play any other part of the game.

If Engineers were able to repair siege then every profession would also need a unique WvW type skill. I personally think this would be awesome, maybe Rangers could temporarilly charm mobs to attack enemies and Guardians or Warriors could call for NPC reinforcements if they are close enough to a keep or tower. Not sure what the other professions could have, maybe Ele could freeze siege so they fire slower which can only be cured by another Ele using fire. iono!

But right now it seems like the Mesmer is the only profession with a skill that seems to almost be specifically made for WvW. Portals (whether u agree with them or not) make Mesmers a priority to any raiding party and a single hiding Mesmer can undo what took your team hours to accomplish.

Well since it is almost 2013 and since GW2 and many other games are adapting this Pay-2-Look unique type model I can’t fathom why they don’t have more unique skins and looks for characters, especially since the entire endgame of GW2 is focused on grinding for new skins and legendaries that change the way effects look.

I would be perfectly fine with turret/kit skins being sold in the BL store, along with Ranger pet skins, Mesmer clone skins, Necro pet skins and any other unique looks they can give to ppl.

Instead of putting effort into town clothes which I almost NEVER see ppl in, put effort into things ppl will actually use and want.

Turrets!!!

in Engineer

Posted by: CriSPeH.8512

CriSPeH.8512

Nah compared to other skills and builds turrets are almost a useless gimmick.
I only ever use the thumper and thats when I am soloing PVE and trying to grind groups of mobs.
I am sure ppl can find uses for them in other situations but there is other better options to accomplish the same thing.
They either need there damage increased or they need to be made more unique.

-Flame turret should be a continuous attack to enemies that get in range, basically like spamming #1 on FT.
-Thumper turret needs to cripple when it hits.
-Rifle turret needs to looks and act like the turret in the icon, a rapid firing gatling gun that can put down continuous sustained damage. (not look like its a baseball pitching machine from 1912)
-Rocket turret needs to not look like 3 taped together toilet paper rolls, and it should fire a whole ton of rockets (like those old chinese rocket boxes) that do AOE damage at your character’s location.

Also the toolbelt skills for rifle/net/rocket should be made to mark the targets you want your turret to attack. so suprise shot someone then drop down your rifle turret and it will be locked on to that person.

Gadgets, how do they work?

in Engineer

Posted by: CriSPeH.8512

CriSPeH.8512

Oh and I use the Thumper Turret in PVE all the time along with the Healing Turret, with the explosive turret trait I have tons of blast finishers. So pair that with FT or Bomb kits and you can down groups of mobs like nothing or solo some champions.

Gadgets, how do they work?

in Engineer

Posted by: CriSPeH.8512

CriSPeH.8512

I only use gadgets for certain situations and never as part of a build.

If there is a fight near a ledge or I am doing the JP then PBR is nice to try and get the fun knock off the cliff.
If I have to run through a zerg to get into a keep or in pve to get to a point then slick shoes is awesome along with Elixir S and/or blocks.
If I feel like mixing things up in WvW or I am just trying to harass ppl then Rocket Boots is awesome, the little flame kick is pretty sweet.
If I accidently smoke to much pot at once I might put on the Goggles thinking that they might actually be usefull in some way, but after about 30mins I come to my senses.

Gadgets are fun novelties to use in certain situations but thats about it.

(And I really hate that rocket boots knocks you on your kitten its so lame, I mean they are ROCKET BOOTS not dynamite shoes, you should fly backwards then the boosters kick in and you make a nice little descent AND they should have a second activation that will send you ROCKETING back at the enemy, now those are Rocket Boots)

Most op profession.

CriSPeH.8512

In almost any game the class that can stealth will most widely be accepted as the “OP” class. It doesn’t really have to do with the class skills it is more just the simple fact that when you are invisible it is easier to quickly plan out your actions because for a few seconds you are basically safe. Whereas ppl who are visible have to act and plan quicker because they are also being planned against.

It was the same in WoW, Rogues were always complained about. Even in FPS like PS2 or Killzone, “infiltrators are cheap because they just sit in stealth and headshot you when you stop for a second”

I don’t think there are any OP professions in GW2. (in WvW Thiefs are OP because of the rendering issue)

I do think that the majority of ppl (in WvW anyways) think that Engineers are an easy target. I have ran around solo quite a bit and not once has someone seen me and then ran away. As soon as they reconize you are an Engineer they try to get a kill, they hardly ever do, but they try.

Well I don’t think maces fit the engineer and I don’t think they should make a brand new hammer weapon just for us. 2h Hammer would sort of work I guess.

I think they should take the wrench #1 out of the toolkit and replace it with 2 hammers. Something like a Ball-Peen Hammer in off hand and a Mallet in main hand, then make the “smack twack wack (or w/e)” attack faster to better suit it.

My only problem with the Tool Kit is that the #1 skill and the toolbelt skill are redundant. Why do they both have to be wrenches?
I like how every other skill is a separate tool.

The #1 Skill should change to a hammer and a mallet and then have its dmg and timing adjusted to fit.

I think Smoke Vent #5 on FT is underrated.
Not only is it useful for popping into stealth but you can use the skill while doing almost anything else.

You can use it while mining/gathering, stomping, rezzing, using another skill that has a long cast time (like the Asura Golem.) Its awesome to avoid getting interupted and to nullify a nuke.

The FT wont net you alot of kills by itself but its great for CC & annoyance.

Also when you use flame blast aim way up in the air (like when you toss a keg) and you can usually avoid it getting obstructed.

This patch made me really happy. I had alot of fun with this game and getting to lvl 80 and despite all the flaws I had fun playing the Engineer. Once I hit 80 I quickly became bored though because all grinding is only for looks and a legendary for an Engineer is a joke.

WvW was my last refuge and even though I can run away from just about anyone the only offensive option I had was standing in a group and chucking nades. I soon realized that WvW is completely pointless and I could care less if my server won or lost (because you get basically NOTHING either way.)

So I took a break from GW2 with the mindset that when they released the next patch I could pick it up again and tryout all the new build options they were sure to give the Engineer through fixes and tweaks. So I did the smartest thing I have ever done I bought Assassins Creed 3.

So now I am extremely happy to see this completely useless and overall damaging patch. Which nerfs the ONLY thing Engineers had going for them. Now I can gladly say goodbye to Anet and it was sorta fun while it lastest and I am free to carve up the British with my tomahawk as much as I wan’t to.

TLDR: Get AC3, it is FREAKING awesome, at least if NOBODY plays the Engineer they will most likely do something to tip the scales way to much and you can come back and enjoy a brief period of the Engie being the FOTM OP BS profession.

Flamethrower does mediocre damage at best.

Engineer main weapons do little in the way of damage.

I’m glad you are happy with flamethrower, but grenades will let you reach bleed cap, vuln cap and also do more damage from any range.

That is only considering straight dmg output.
The utility of the FT is amazing when you use it for that,
Flame Blast – if you work around the obstructed crap by aiming your camera at the sky you can get some good AOE dmg.
Air Blast – knockback is always nice
Smoke Vent – this can be used almost at anytime, when you are mining/rezzing/healing even when you are casting other skills, like dropping a golem(asura only).

Grenades do nice damage but the utiltity is where the Engineer excels, I can run around and pull groups of mobs with EG -FT – Thumper and I can down all those mobs without worry and the absolute best part is that it is FUN to do it. You don’t get to just spam a few skills which is boring anyway. Playing the Engineer takes more thought and effort than any of the other professions I have played but it is by FAR the funnest one to play.

I mean it IS a game I want to play not worry about math.

This skill needs to be fixed.

However a workaround is to aim your camera up when you fire it, like aim at the sky, to the point where you can no longer even see the enemy but only your own backside.
Once I started doing this I barely ever see obstructed anymore, unless I am actually obstructed.

If you have ever played the Keg Toss game its the same idea as throwing the Keg all the way across the field.

Its akward and a pain but just aim for the sky.

Hammers would be fine with me.

If I don’t like the hammer I do not have to use the hammer, simple as that.

As far as it fitting the profession I think a hammer fits the Engineer just as much as a shield does. Its not so much the weapon as much as it is the skill sets with the weapon, if Engineers had a hammer I am sure it would be more utility oriented with maybe even an option to repair turrets, tht way if you play with turrets you aren’t forced to use toolkit as your only option to repair them.

I really like the idea of weapon mods to take the place of our lack of a secondary weapon.

Basically in your secondary slot you can equip a mod pack that when swapped to will put attachments onto your weapon(s). With the attachments will come a new set of modded skills, not anything to crazy different but skills that would just tune the weapon to better fit different playstyles. So instead of having to use pots for DPS because the rifle is more utility, the rifle could be modded to be more damage oriented and gadgets could be used to attain the utility.

Pipe dream I know but I think it could really make up for where the profession is lacking, it would give more variety and options for our weapon sets both in skills and in visuals. Also it would add more appeal for ppl who have a hard time with the constant kit swapping playstyle.

I think anyone who tries to claim that the Engineer isn’t littered with flaws, glitches and broken mechanics is someone who is just playing devils advocate.
However anyone who thinks that all professions don’t have their share of flaws, glitches and broken mechanics is someone who is just being foolish.

I can say from my experience that I am almost always the sole Engineer in every pug grp I run and have even been booted or not accepted to grps because I was an Engineer. So saying that Engineers are one of, if not the most unplayed profession is probally a very true statement.

Doesn’t mean we suck though..

What ppl don’t understand is Engineers are probally the funnest profession to play, you litterally have tools for anyway you want to play. So if you are looking to have fun, which means actually having a challenge when you play, then engi’s aren’t so bad, you just have to make full use of your 17-21 skills to really be effective.

Thats why Engineers aren’t played as much, it takes too much effort to be as effective as the other professions. Just look at 90% of YT vids of thiefs owning, they down multiple ppl using #1,#5 and a few utilities. You can do this with an Engineer it will just involve switching kits multiple times, making full use of fields and finishers, superior dodgeing and probally a little luck.

I personally think tht is the fun part when I manage to use all my skills in somewhat perfect synergy to finish off an enemy or group of mobs. But thts not fun for most ppl so they will play the professions that allow them to have an “ultimate” build for max damage output while using the least amount of effort, like in WoW.

TLDR – My bet is by the end of the year the Engineer will receive some changes that will make it a FoTM profession. Which is what always happens to the “underdog” professions in the great balancing act.

Wasn’t too bad once all the Norn and Charr fat bodies fell off and quit blocking my character.

So I’m sure this has been brought up before, but does anyone else think they should change the loot system for WvW!?

The fact tht the loot bags drop at your feet actually causes me to miss them more often then not. I am always running around in the midst of battle and with lag and everything else I think I constantly miss loot drops.

After playing for nearly 2 1/2 hours in a pretty constant zerg vs zerg battle, I netted a grand total of 6 badges. This was more than likely due to missing bag drops.

I think it would be better to have a continuing achievement that when you get 5 -10 player kills you get a chest, like the chests tht you get for daily. The chest would have badges with maybe a chance at siege plans or insta repair cans.

TLDR : WvWvW loot should be in achievement style chests instead of loot bags.

Not my claim.
Thts just what it says in the Wiki.
Something along the lines of, Signets are magic and Engineers are against magic.
I found it when I was trying to figure out why the hell I didnt have any passives.

What are you on about?

I looked on the wiki and it says only this

“The engineer is the only profession that does not have any signets.”

Nothing about magic. You made that up.

I wouldn’t just make something up.
But you are right I can’t find where I read this anymore on the wiki.
I do remember reading it somewhere, but that was also when the game was in beta.
Like I said I was trying to figure out why the hell everyone else had signets and we didn’t and that was the answer I found.

I do agree that our class needs something in place of Signets.
I still think that kits should give a passive ability when you have slotted and when you equikittent instead of the utility skill turning in to a “drop kit”or"swap" button (which we already have with the weapon swap keybind), the utility skill should turn into a new skill that activates the passive.

Something like.
FT = passive that increases +condition per tick.
-gain one tick for every enemy killed up to 5 ticks.
-activate utility skill and burn 5 ticks to gain stability.

Imo somthing like that will make up for not having Signets AND for Sigils not working on kits.

Signets are magic and engineers dont use magic.
Some kind of passive effect would be nice though, maybe each kit could grant a passive effect or something but thats just wishing.

It's time to change the offhand pistol skills

Well burns & roots are nice but we have other options for them.
I guess if I could choose anything to replace a pistol skill it would be some type of frost attack. Besides the nade we don’t really have alot of freeze options.
So something that freezes and is more on the offensive side to replace glue shot.
Like an ice ray shot that uses both pistols and is channeled.

We have so much utility we have too much utility.
I want more straight DPS.
