More options for all are great!

An example of RL dude rocking a sexy, skimpy adventuring outfit, to prove it can be done: http://fashionablygeek.com/costumes/gender-bent-erotic-metal-gear-solid-v-cosplay-is-fantastic/

Uh yeah. There’s a reason ArenaNet doesn’t have armor like that in this game. That looks kittening ridiculous.

How about you take off the “shirt” and actually wear more than a thong. You can have skimpy male armor, but that’s not male armor. There’s a reason men in dresses look bad.

I agree.

Tbh, I think there is a considerable amount of middle ground that people don’t cover. Take Conan the Barbarian for males (Braham’s is somewhat close to this) and Vabbian from GW1 for females. They can be skimpy and be elegant at the same time.

Also I find realism to be stupid. Why should it be that real? I mean…bringing down fire storms and summoning the dead seems like we left realism a long time ago.

I think there’s just a lack of variation that people want. Personally, I would like to see some light (gothic) dresses, lace, corsettes and skirts…along with this I would like to see more heavy armors that feel extremely sleek, elegant and angellic. As far as medium goes, I’m not entirely sure what I want to see.

Here’s an example of a concept for a more gothic dress.

Here’s an example of what I mean by an elegant female design.

The balance itself I think is somewhat fine, just a lack of variation. The desire to have some of the steampunk/gothic/angellic feeling to your characters can’t really be quenched with the designs they currently offer. They can be halfway met but 2+ years in waiting gets old after a while.

Oh, I didn’t know that! Not fair that only NPCs can do it :/

yeah, well, when Anet tried to let us do it with the light flame armor a bunch of whiny people howled with rage until they changed it.

Blame your fellow players, is the message I’m trying to get across here.

Human light T3 was the only armor set, though. The skin lost a significant amount of value if that existed – and it existed for every other race no less!

Still, it strikes me that they should revisit the idea of all races have all racial armors. If I could get Charr’s heavy T3 on a human or a norn, I’d be giddy. It’s not that I have a thing for humans, I just have a thing against Charr. It’s the LDoA in me.

assassin ritualist paragon monk dervish

Paragon is already similar to guardian
Monk is also similar to guardian
Dervish > this could be a warrior with a scythe
Ritualist ? Most boring class from gw1 pls we have enough AI , don’t need more

We just need 1 more heavy class of Dark Magic type . Like a mix between warrior and necro.

Rit was the reason I stayed with gw1 I have over 4k hours on my rit, it was an amazing and unique class.

Was it because Rt was unique or Rt plowed through everything in lolmode with SoS?

Either way, I’d like to see a more functional minion master class in this game – whether it be through spirit wall ritualist or fixing the minions on necromancer.

If you used Rt in PvP, more power to you – but Splinter Weapon/Spirit’s Strength is a lot like some of the mesmer melee-magic.

Alongside dungeons, I would like to see Fractals/Special Missions that were like the Bonus Mission Packs of GW1. I’d honestly love to have dungeons/fractals/special missions that gave you the form of a different character with different skills – such as all 5 members of Destiny’s Edge or something.

I’ve offered this suggestion before, it’s just something I keep wanting to happen.

And coming from Guild Wars which had a great deal of content to this poultry amount is jarring to say the least, I don’t even recognize them as the same company at this point.

Needless to say, but I’m going to say anyway, I am not a fan of this approach. It’s going nowhere fast, and I can’t expect it to improve. And no amount of polish is going to rectify this.

I’ve held this position for a long time. GW2 keeps releasing polished content and never releasing new content. GW1: Prophecies wasn’t much better than GW2 is the current state, but the difference is ANet responded to GW1 by releasing Factions and Nightfall in a timely fashion – not 2+ years into the game’s life. They also spent much more time actively working on balancing issues and bugs, which is something they haven’t seemingly addressed in this game very much.

It’s a little disappointing but I suppose the stagnant content releases gives me a good incentive to grind for Twilight.

Personally, I am still awaiting on that “big announcement” they were talking about around the time of the April 15th patch and I look forward to learning about what they have in store for the later half of this year. However, if the issues aren’t addressed and silence is prevalent, by 2015 I’ll probably have quit to play more console games.

Interchangeable Weapon Skills?

Cuddy.6247

you couldn’t just go with a vanilla or cookie cutter build in your party and expect to beat them consistently.

Wait wat?

Don’t forget your cookie cutter.

What’s the moral of these builds though? Oh, “CC” (GW1 called it shutdown) and heals were the backbone of the metagame, not a sideline spectator.

Anet’s design to have fixed weapon skills was to get around the problem they had in GW1. There were over a thousand skills, many duplicated because of the expansions, and only 2% of them would get regular use.

Perhaps what is needed is alternative modes on the same weapon. For instance, an offensive mode where most of the skills are attack based or defensive mode where the auto attack is still offensive but the rest are more like parries, blocks or deflects.

Also, more weapons would be welcome!

Remember PvX Builds? For each profession?
2%? Wrong.

Eh…2% or 10%…it was a stupidly low number There were 300+ elite skills alone and maybe on average only 30 were ever really used in the metagame.

I only agree with the stance that they need to stop nerfing loot because they haven’t released much more permanent and worthwhile content to make not-loot-farming much of an enjoyable experience.

Let’s see some more dungeons and maps and PvP modes and armor and weapon skins that aren’t related to the black lion trade post in any way. Then people will stop farming for loot and loot-farming will be at what many consider an “appropriate” level.

GW2 in China; any hope of Cantha?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cantha’s probably not going to happen due to the uproar that happened with “racial insensitivity.”

Elona’s probably on the table, though. I can’t imagine ANet actually just dropping the Crystal Desert, Sulfurous Wastes and Palawa Joko stuff.

Cantha on the other hand has a backstory for not being traveled to anymore (xenophobia and the sea dragon). So while ANet greases the wheels behind-the-scenes, we can rest assured that in the game we won’t travel there.

On the supposed issue of endgame

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cuddy.6247

Cuddy.6247

IMO the problems with endgame have stemmed from the fact that the game’s been out for a while without much in the ways of an expansion. LS and the permanent content we got with it was nice but no MMO can truly thrive without a right and true expansion. It followed a similar path in GW1 – but they didn’t have to wait 22+ months for the next expansion, Factions was released not too long after Prophecies.

Legendary Armor: Yes or No?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cuddy.6247

Cuddy.6247

Although I feel ascended armor should have more of a significant stat increase than Exotic.

This has never been the Guild Wars way. In fact, I find the 3-5% boost to be quite gracious of ANet – especially if you consider that their previous game was nearly complete horizonal progression – and max armor was max, whether it was 5k from Droknar’s Forge or 150 ectos + 150 obsidian shards + More from Fissure of Woe.

I think there should be legendary armor though – and more legendary weapons. You grind out for Ascended if you want the small stat boost and AR. Then, if you desire, legendaries for some awesome looking skins.

They’ll really have to go all out with the legendary armor though. Not like make it as flamboyant as possible but at least make it armor that people really covet and desire.

This game already has enough of a grinding problem. Introducing more obscenely difficult to obtain loot will surely exacerbate it.

I’d much rather see another campaign or something. Some kind of permanent, lengthy, playable content. Horizontal growth is important for stability.

I would like to see an expansion and legendary armor/more legendary weapons come WITH that expansion. If they opened up Dominion of the Winds, for instance – they could introduce some different skins or new Ascended/Legendary equipment that was obtained a different way.

Basically, I would like to see a new campaign. And the new campaign I envision would include stuff like new armor and weapons (of legendary status, to boot).

Ritualist class

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cuddy.6247

Cuddy.6247

Interesting that you all are thinking of only one aspect of the Ritualist class: Spirits.

Love to break it to you but there is PLENTY for ArenaNet to play with in order to make it a viable class. Do you so easily forget about weapon spells and summoning ashes? It wouldn’t be the same as GW1 but it could be something sweet to play.

Maybe because that wasn’t as fun as Spirit spammer? Or maybe because everyone and they’r mother used that to farm UW which I don’t know if was even possible with ashes.

That was just because it was a semi-option available in GW1 – unless you ran DWG in DoA. To be fair, though, I think the spirit concept is about on par with the minion concept – why don’t people just use 5 minion masters in dungeons? Because the AI is pretty bad. Who’s to say that spirit ritualists wouldn’t end up getting the same nerfbashing and ending up becoming the next necromancer of GW2.

Still, though. A lot of people used Spirit’s Strength builds in PvP and wrecked everything. I could see ritualist being somewhat useful if they tried to balance minions, in general, a bit better. I don’t see how they’d ever make it work though without applying some strict rules that everyone would hate or making minions OP as hell by having x5 minion masters/spirit spammers sticking around each other.

Just a precedent they’d have to consider before diving into something like ritualist class – because we know sure as kitten DWG and Spirit’s Strength aren’t going to anywhere near as good as Guardian.

Zerker isn't the problem, AI is

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cuddy.6247

Cuddy.6247

As a GW1 player, I always felt the direction they took with open world and AI was going to cause some amount of problems – and it did. Although I fail to this SUPER DUPER IMPACTING STUFF that people seem to describe as being broken or not. Berserker will always have been the most optimal choice because DPS is good for PvE.

However, at the same time, how can really amp up the game? In dungeons the same enemies with better AI would be too hard (they basically equate difficulty with health sponge most of the time) – so if they tried to soften the health sponge effect and make better AI that optimized skills and strategies (somewhat similar to how GW1 handled things) they would be making foes way too easy in open world.

Now, they could split the AI between open world and dungeons but that seems like a hell of a lot of to do for such a minor problem (I’ll get into why I think it’s minor in the next paragraph). I feel like they should’ve dropped the open world design and gone with the GW1 way of doing things – sure, it wasn’t the best concept but no concept will ever be the best and will be impossible to cater to every single person that plays a game.

However, I think it’s a rather minor problem in general. Really what I feel most of these discussions boil down to is frustration because after 22 months, the game still lacks expansion-worthy content (a new zone/region/race/profession). While I wouldn’t expect these things to come every 6 months, I think every 2-2.5 years is a good marker for expansions and this game is hitting the deadline with no peep from ANet about the possibility of one.

repetitive griefing of targeted specific players

Ah, yes. This is an interesting claim indeed. Can griefing the griefers be considered griefing? Have they deserved it? Isn’t it better to grief two guys before they can grief the entire Map? Is it just of me?

So many questions, so few answers.

The champ train is toxic, and something should be done about. This chat isn’t what new players should have to see.

No, that is quite a clear claim, not interesting at all. Yes, it can. And google “vigilantism” if you find any time in between your griefing endeavours.

And properly-targetted vigilante activities in-game, just as in real life, dramatically improve the quality of the world for everyone who isn’t a scumbag.

Wheres New Content?? (State of the Game) [merged]

Cuddy.6247

-snip-.

-snip-.

Gotta agree with Persica on this one.

I actually disagree with Persica, but for somewhat different reasons. For the most part, most of the permanent content was polishing – stuff that they should’ve done to balance the game. The additional content pretty much consists of EOTM, Tequatl, TA Aetherpath and Triple Worm. Game polishing isn’t additional content and shouldn’t be justified as such. However they are both justified as permanent content, perhaps it’s just semantics – but I feel it’s a relevant point.

I just hope the silence doesn’t continue forever – Even if it doesn’t come out until the end of the year, I’d be appreciative of just knowing a large expansion is in the works – much like how Square Enix revealed KH2.5 and KH3. Everyone knew they were going to be in the works – and simply knowing they’re about half a year away makes it easier to deal with. No more silence, no set date, but a general time frame of when we can expect something that they have confirmed working on.

The content shouldn’t be out within the next two weeks but a PA definitely should.

So…is this issue becoming more common? I know I’ve certainly seen more of these messages flood my PMs and it gets rather annoying.

If other people are also finding a noticeable rise in gold seller bots, has there been any mention from ANet on cracking down on it? I really hope every night doesn’t turn into what this night ended up being because I probably won’t get on if I have to set myself to Invisible.

An End to the Queensdale Train

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cuddy.6247

Cuddy.6247

I see plenty of benefits in the Queensdale champ train as well…easy and reliable events for dailies/monthlies, a semi-fast and efficient means of obtaining money (it’s less about the direct monetary drop but what you get from the champ bag), it really IS efficient at leveling (at least for a while…and then it stagnates and then it becomes efficient again) and, quite frankly, it’s not really that bad.

I just think it’s silly when it bothers people in the train when someone else kills the champion. It’s also silly that some players out there have such hostility toward the QD train that they intentionally go and kill a champion to break the cycle.

There’s far too much kittening about something as insignificant and stupid as the QD train. Sure, these players aren’t that “good” but nobody’s forcing anyone to play with these “bad” players. If someone sucks really bad at a dungeon and you don’t want them, you’re still given a kick option. If you don’t want to explain yourself, you’re still given a block option. Honestly, at some point I think people need to start taking some personal responsibility and stop expecting everyone else to get on their page, no matter how far behind those other folks might be.

In terms of Cantha, the petrified forest has begun to turn back and the jade sea has “melted” or whatever process to return to liquid.

In terms of Elona, Palawa Joko blocked the river and flooded quite a bit of it I believe.

There’s more in depth info in the wiki

He diverted the rival elon I hunk the name is. So it runs through the crystal dessert. Most of Elona have suffers famin and droughts. I think istan is the only part of Elona still “free” of Joko.

As for Cantha. Yes there are reports about the Jade sea and the forest. But they are just what the order of whispers have “reported” or said to have. No one really knows thanks to Zhitan and bubbles.

I’d much rather go back to the Far Shiver Peaks. I love Eye of the North. Can’t wait to go back there.

I might have just forgotten, but weren’t there actual physical reports from the Kurzicks and Luxons themselves about changes to the Jade Sea and Echovold Forest during Winds of Change? I seem to remember them talking to us about it, about how killing Shiro again somehow redirected The Jade Wind.

A big reason why I like April 15th patch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cuddy.6247

Cuddy.6247

For the most part, there seems to be a few complaints and a few thank yous but I’d just thought it’d be neat to know why people really enjoy the patch, like if anything in the patch actually changed the way you played the game.

I know for me, I got rid of my ranger. I enjoyed ranger a little bit, but I was enjoying guardian a lot more. However my ranger was made in October of 2012 – at one point, I had already invested into T3 cultural armor, some infinite gathering tools and Ascended items because of the previous two combined.

Later on, in 2013, they made gathering tools account bound. Okay, so 3 of the reasons I kept my ranger around were now account bound. However I had still invested 100+g into T3 cultural and I had, at the time, 4/6 ascended trinkets (which included a backpiece).

Then April 15, 2014. The T3 went into wardrobe, the Ascended became account bound, and there was nothing really quite holding me back. So, I rerolled my norn from a ranger to a guardian – it’s been 24 hours since I did that, but it still feels like the best decision I’ve made thanks to this update. Had none of my investments been able to be shared, I probably would still have the ranger.

The only investment that wasn’t carried, really, was the map completion but my other characters also have that so it wasn’t a big deal to get rid of one.

I still would like some actual new content but this was pretty sweet.

So, what features of the patch changed anyone else’s gaming experience?

There Needs to Be True Downscaling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cuddy.6247

Cuddy.6247

So I have been doing map completion since the patch on my level 80 and have really noticed, especially on the lower level maps the lack of real downscaling. I’m just on my mesmer and I feel like I’m just absolutely obliterating everything. There’s no challenge at all and I actually have to try to contain my damage so my friend is able to tag the mob I’m attacking.

I would really love for there to be some serious downscaling that more accurately reflects what they should be in those lower maps. It would simply make doing map completion and playing with lower level friends a lot more enjoyable. It’s not fun trying to play with a lower level friend and I’m just destroying everything. Even if I take off all my armor and my traits, I still just destroy things.

There is. Likely you won’t jump through all the hoops to make it happen but if you’re killing stuff THAT fast you could always get a common weapon for lower levels (still 80 so it’s considerably stronger than starter gear), remove your traits, etc. Realistically the reason downscaling isn’t “true” is because it doesn’t really factor in traits and equipment.

What To Do After Making a Legendary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cuddy.6247

Get full Ascended, who cares about the skins – Transmutation Charges pal, make them look like cultural T3 because that’s where everything is at. Get another Legendary. Maximize your wardrobe (this includes getting some of the really expensive Halloween and BLT skins).

It’s all a grind but I suppose those are some real suggestions opposed to what I was going to say: Wait until more content comes out.

Challenging PvE: Start trying to help coordinate Triple Worm or Tequatl. I haven’t really done them because I’m lazy and I just get on to do dailies but they can be rough. Of course most of the difficulty seems to come from the mass organization needed, still – you could try to throw your hat in the ring. Be the change you want to see, nom’sayin?

I wouldn’t run around exploring and helping new players if I were you. Helping new players with stuff is fine and all but it takes away from the learning curve when you just give them stuff. Of course, I was given some handouts early in my game life but that’s because my friend was like, “Buy yourself full gear and get the weapon you want and stuff. Get some gathering tools and start learning about gathering.”

I also think it’s silly to not look forward to Living Story season 2. Similar to the feature patch, ANet can divide their resources (although it seems to be getting less efficient every day – sorry ANet!) and have a team working on an expansion of some sort behind the scenes while they have a live team working on Living Story and other short term aspects.

When the patch went up my gloves and boots both kept going to sky blue. Then my gloves stopped yet my boots still continued. I tried different gray dyes until finally one of them stuck and didn’t change when zoning anymore.

It is just one of the annoying bugs I have encountered since April 15ths patch.

Fix 2 things break 10 more. ~ Anet

Yeah that’s similar to what happened to me. I logged in first on my guardian and several of the pieces were sky blue. Okay, fair enough, stuff will happen. Then I changed everything back to the colors they were supposed to be and logged out so I could go see the changes on my ranger. Got on the next day and BOOM! Boots were blue again. Everything else stuck though.

I can’t try cedo’s option word-for-word though because whenever I use Dye Remover it happens to be the dye I want it to be and there seems to be no way around it. I haven’t tried since the patch that happened last night but I really hope this issue gets resolved because I’ve tried messing around with the dye, messing around with some zoning and using -repair (which just ended up being a 2 hour waste of time).

I haven’t really played Sylvari so I couldn’t say, but one option that I think might look neat based off of previewing alone would be going with some cultural – T2 hands, legs and feet with T3 chest and shoulder. Then, ofc, you’d have to dye it to make it match your Sylvari’s natural hues (so if you had a green sylvari, make it more of a green tint). As I said, I wouldn’t know though. Although if you like, the Phalanx set is pretty good (using Fog, Sand and Black dyes – I’m not sure on the correct sequence in the dye preview to be the right look) and a sword like Khrysoar would go well with it.

As many have mentioned: unlimited gathering tools.

Those are amazing.

On top of this I would also say maybe a total makeover kit and a bank tab expansion. You won’t be able to afford all of these with 1300 gems but I think these are the best items to buy in the gem store.

Gathering tools for obvious reasons – they gather stuff, are highest tier, and never run out. They’re pricey enough that they don’t pay themselves off that well, really, in comparison to regular gathering tools but the convenience is worth every single gem.

Makeover kit because new hairstyles and faces are usually pretty cool, and the hair/eye colors are beautiful. It’s always nice to have a character that is visually pleasing – while it’s not essential for gameplay, it’s essential for enjoying the game in my opinion. It’s just recreational to have a character that doesn’t look like an idiot with starter gear.

Bank tab expansions because once you start getting bloodstone dust more often, you will have so many kitten stacks of bloodstone dust you will go bonkers.

Some things I read I don’t agree with:

Armor skins: some of them are nice, but if you don’t like them – don’t buy them. They’re skins, plain and simple. The main game offers nice skins (I was going to say plenty of them but that’d be a lie) that you can strive to achieve. If you do like them, buy them – you won’t regret having skins you like on a character.

Bag slots: I say no to this, I use 15 bag slots on my ranger (which cost like less than 1g each right now, I think) and that’s more than enough space to manage my inventory as long as I take the time to manage it. I use the Salvage-o-Matic to help keep it clean though, the one copper charge pays for itself eventually because the cost of regular kits exceeds that (like 1s88c I believe for the basic kit which would end up being 188 uses on the Salvage-o-Matic vs. 25 uses on the bought kit).

Except for the painful client crashes in regards to some poor integration of certain operating systems and graphics, I would say a system like this isn’t really needed for the function of the main game. Most disconnects and crashes I have experienced have been entirely user-ended, and if they were server-side problems – there was a high chance most people were having the same problem (such as when COX was disconnecting like every 15 seconds).

So I guess I would say…your claim is refutable on the grounds that most problems are user-side? I don’t believe tracking progress would be that useful because if it were something like that COX incident I mentioned earlier – say I had been running a dungeon when suddenly the outages and problems with connectivity suddenly started and I couldn’t stay logged in for more than 10-20 seconds. That issue wasn’t resolved for almost six hours.

Should I have been compensated? I sure would’ve liked to. But it’s illogical to store that much information on such a small chance. Especially on a free-to-play game.

I believe getting into something like that is a slippery slope though, at what point do you draw the line between communication errors and just bad luck/poor services? Just because you might have DSL (not saying you do, just using it as an example) that can’t stay connected to the GW2 servers doesn’t mean it’s their fault.

Leveling with style

If I can ever decide on a character to make…I’ll likely go this route – although it was possible to level with style even before this happened (although not to the same extent). Personally, I may go with a swordhorn charr warrior or something. It’s not really set in stone though.

Removing the RPG from MMORPG

I agree. I feel like ANet not wanting to release any expansions has really shot them in the foot with this game. I’m okay with the “stab people simulator” idea if only because Guild Wars 1 was along similar lines but this game constantly just releases gem store items and little tweaks with little new content. An expansion at this point in its life would go a long way.

You can still give ANet your money. Just play their first game!

It’s not that hard to do, really. 30/50 can be obtained fairly quick…it’s 50/50 that will put a bruising.

What new outfits would you like to see?

They could call it maybe “Heroes and Villains” Pack or something, Idk, but I think with outfits available they could make some outfits that wouldn’t really fit as armor – such as Queen Jennah’s dress, outfits of locals that we still haven’t seen, Shiro, The Lich, some other GW1 comebacks. I also think maybe outfits (alongside armors) might become prevalent in Living Story releases. Not only an associated heavy/medium/light armor set in future updates but also a costume as well.

Mad King outfit return?

Even if they don’t release the outfit “soon,” there’s a very strong likelihood it will return around Halloween. It was in the gem store for both 2012 and 2013, I don’t see 2014 magically breaking the point. It’s totally up to you, though.

Do we really want classes?

I’m down for anything that would provide an abundance of new content. Living Story was only so satisfying, I’d like to see a GW2 2.0 soon. If that means adding some classes/races/skills/maps…whatever it takes to add some meaty content, I’d be down.

10% damage reduction? More like 30%

It’s funny to see this damage reduction is growling larger with each thread.
10%, 25%, 50%

It won’t be long until we get a thread where people claim our dps was reduced by 95%.

My critical damage was nerfed by 100%…oh wait, I logged in on the wrong character.

I feel bad for hardcore wvw players and of course for myself, after only recently finishing my ascended set that now has 221% crit damage (71%) down from 251% (101%) with food!

Correct me if I’m wrong (I’m not wrong), but 220% is just a hair over a 10% reduction of 250%.

250 × 0.1 = 25

250 – 25 = 225

25% decrease in crit damage would be a 10% loss.
