Ranger Balance Philosophy

Pets aren’t too bad.
Rangers aren’t too bad.
Longbow isn’t too bad.
Greatsword isn’t too bad.
Axe isn’t too bad.
Sword isn’t too bad.

…The problem is there’s not really much to shine, though. Sword selfroots terribly and kind of forces an unwarranted amount of frustration with management that similar classes (namely thief or mesmer) don’t have to go through to achieve the same results. The greatsword’s cleave has a reasonable cooldown but the autoattack is so atrocious that there’s no point in using it for anything other than some cleaves and then switching back to a sword/longbow.

In the end, I think rangers lack effective weapon skills – the class mechanic itself is decent enough for anyone who will take the time to sit down and look at their traits but it seems like their weapon skills just aren’t worth it especially in high end PvE content. PvP is quite fun with a ranger, though.

Rune of Strength

Cuddy.6247

It’s not the rune that is OP but the problem that DPS is so kitten useful in melting enemies. As a bit more of a solo player myself (I like to take my characters and just roam around exploring bits and parts of the world) I find Rune of Strength to only be significantly better for my warrior, while I use Rune of the Flame Legion on my guardian and Rune of the Ranger on my ranger.

The balance issue lies far beneath the surface of “Rune of Strength is OP”…so, no. This is a bad idea.

Hello I just wanna start by saying I’m a big fan of GW2, but why do i need to complete a lvl 59 story quest to get my adept trait? really!? im lvl 30…WTF!

It’s because u can only unlock Master Traits at lvl 60…
So u can still use that one for half a lvl… :/

I posted a suggestion a while back to try and solve this….

Tell me what you think

Why not sell them at the merchant instead of destroying them? They might not be worth much but god forbid you get any money…

I just think Ascended should be salvageable. Plain and simple fix.

I don’t think, however, their value at the trader should increase. Even if they don’t set up a reasonable solution like salvaging or a trading post market, I don’t think their value at the trader should increase. It’s just not a solution at all.

there is some magical source of scrolls that you can gather in less then a day apparently.

EotM K-Train. I got 38 scrolls since Sunday and I’ve only gotten on to do the dailies.

So .. after all the hate against the QD Train and the “newcomers are getting a bad impression” of the game, the answer to all things now is that they should do the EotM Train instead ?

What about people that really want to play like what the reason was, why the QD train was nerfed ? Noo .. don’t explore .. go EoTM and train there the whole day.

They don’t have to train. The EotM K-Train is just the magical source of Scrolls of Knowledge. Also, they hardly have to do it all day. As I said, got 38 scrolls just by doing some dailies there.

Don’t use any gold you already have.

ONE adept-tier trait

Why uh…why not use gold? It’s not like new players don’t have access to income as well (granted not as much) and Adept tier traits cost 10s and 2 skill points – not exactly something that is out of this world expensive even for a new player.

Then, once they buy traits they feel they might need (if they can’t unlock it by doing any sort of completion), they can use those traits as an investment to acquire their other traits.

The key word in my sentence is already. Use only the coin you make with that character.

Complete the story step “A Light in the Darkness.” (Level 55 personal story for the first trait (I) in the first line.)
Earn 100% map completion in Blazeridge Steppes. (Level 40-50 for the fifth trait (V) in the first line.)
Complete Twilight Arbor on story mode. (Level 50 for the second trait (II) in the second line.)
Earn 100% map completion in Lornar’s Pass. (Level 25-40 zone for the fourth trait (IV) in the second line.)
Complete the story step “The Battle For Clorr Island.” (Level 50 personal story for the second trait (II) in the third line.)
Defeat Victurus the Shattered and his army. (Level 58 group event in Iron Marches for the fourth trait (IV) in the third line.)

Do any of those sound fun to do at level 36 with no traits? I could go on- there are more that are ridiculous, just like these are. Look for yourself.

If you can use the money you generate, then what’s the problem exactly?

A level 36 shouldn’t be doing level 40-50 content. Period. Having traits on a level 35 doesn’t make you qualified to do a level 50 personal story step. Don’t get those traits until you’re an optimal level, simple as that really. Some of that (like 100% in Lornar’s Pass) is kind of easy if you take your time. What you fail to mention are the major traits you can get in the Adept tier that are super easy:

Capture Inferno’s Needle
100% Gendarran Fields
Capture Stonegaze Spire
Obsidian Sanctum JP (granted it can be difficult but for the most part can be kind of easy)
Capture Tytone Perch
Defeat the Champion Ice Wurm in Lornar’s Pass
Complete Caudecus’ Manor in story mode

If you just do this content when it’s level appropriate and groups to play with that aren’t kind of kitten-baggy elitists (which is going to be a real challenge) then that’d be a good thing.

I think you’re just complaining that you now have to put in some effort to build your character if you don’t want to spend a lucrative amount of skill points in gold. God forbid anyone should have to try.

you just joined at the wrong time. you are going to have a horrible time lvling your new character with stagnant progressions and skills/utilities locked away behind events you literally cant do because of your level and making cash has just been made harder

if you joined 5 months ago you could have bought 1k gems crafted to lvl 65 in a day then had fun to lvl 80 with all your unlocked skills and abilities.

^ Don’t mind this. Please don’t. Half of the fun is learning the game and exploring the world! I would just advise you though when you’re leveling to be THOROUGH when you see Heart Vendors and keep an eye out for masterwork karma items they sell that are better than what you have equipped. Do not be frugal with your equipment while you are leveling (well, okay, be a little frugal but don’t like try to hold onto the same equipment for 20 levels) because it will hurt you with frustration in the end. Stay in your appropriate level content and exploration and leveling will be a cinch. It gets a little boring after a few alts but your first character should be an enjoyable experience.

Post how you made ascended armor look good!

OP, I would suggest transmutation. Sorry, the Ascended heavy just kind of blows for human males. T3 isn’t bad though.

Sorry if this is kind of “hijacking” your post, but because we are on the topic of making ascended armor look good, I was gonna ask about ascended light armor. Out of the 3 armor classes, (In my opinion) light armor looks the worst. I need a way to also make it look less…bad. I’m willing to use transmutation charges and gem store skins. I have profane, toxic stuff and zodiac.

Again, sorry if this is kinda “hijacking”.

Doesn’t Ascended light have the poofy pants? I’m not really an expert since I don’t know, but you could always hide the shoulders perhaps and go with a mix of purple and gold dyes (Redemption gold would probably be better than Gold gold) on the legs and perhaps throw in some red on the top. I haven’t really looked into it enough, I’m afraid.

Also, just some other ideas depending on your profession (requires transmutation charges):

ANet’s Promotional Grenth Outfit
Grenth Hood (if you have it – if you don’t, disregard this)
Deathly Mantle
Trickster Coat
Masquerade Gloves
Trickster Leggings
Ascended Boots

Loverboy
No Helm
Acolyte Mantle
Heritage Coat
No Gloves
Ascalonian Catacombs Leggings
Caudecus’ Manor Boots

Fallen Celestial
Full Zodiac
Zodiac Sword/Zodiac Focus
Zodiac Greatsword

Ancient Hero
Full Heritage
-with a mesmer, using Bonetti’s Rapier with full Heritage is preferred.

If you don’t have any of the armor pieces and can’t access them, sucks for you.

Also, some of the sets might require playing around with dyes to make them look good. They’re just sets I’ve used.

Warlocks and Necromancers are vastly different. I tried making a Necromancer as my first character because I enjoyed Warlocks in WoW and Necros/Rits in GW1. I ended up deleting the character before I hit level 30.

The game is quite fun though. The people who complain most are people who have likely played since launch and it’s been a long time without much significant additional content (mostly polishing of game mechanics).

I doubt you’d burn out though, with Living Story 2 just around the corner.

but now it seems like wow and every other mmo pretty much makes it so you reach max level fast as hell for the end game content.. not the biggest fan of that.

…Wellllllll.

I’d say it’s not the case in this game, but I’d be lying. It’s stupidly easy to hit max level. However I think you might have a good time exploring – it still takes a while to go around to all of the zones and explore the maps and see the landscapes. Not to mention the story isn’t too bad either for a MMO, and Living Story 2 is just around to bend to extend that story experience.

It’s not like after you hit level 80 the devs designed the game to funnel you into dungeons or anything that is the equivalent of “raid” content (there’s no true raid content, but some stuff gets kind of close). It’s a great game for those who enjoy casual and some more difficult gameplay and has a pretty good way of having both doors open at the same time.

It all just boils down to the game needs a serious expansion for the veteran players though. You hopefully won’t feel the stress that the vets do and if you do, well the vets complaining about the game now are likely to have completely abandoned the game.

What race do you want playable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cuddy.6247

Cuddy.6247

Agreed.

I’m not expecting dwarfs anytime soon (if ever) but it is well within ANets ability and general fantasy reason to have the dwarfs return as a playable race. Nothing is ever permanent in a fantasy world. Things may be unlikely and not what certain players/readers/viewers/etc want but that doesn’t disqualify them. In fact I would say it makes them a bigger surprise and adds more gripping lore.

No offence but what you guys are talking about is often considered bad story writing. When something is stated as being permanent in any genre of story writing and then the writer falls back on that its basically the same as a lie. It also as I stated normally comes about as a Deus ex Machina, God of the Machine. In other words it takes an act of god to revert something. When a story uses such a mechanic the story always seems to fall flat and ends in an anticlimactic way.

Permanence in a fantasy makes for a better story. And yes permanence is permanent in fantasy story’s. The ones that go against that have always felt anticlimactic and dull.

What are you talking about?

Surprising the audience, come backs, plot twist, etc. make stories exciting.

I suppose every retcon could be considered a plot twist. But cheap tricks don’t fool me into buying a cheap trick as an exciting story element. Bringing dwarves back doesn’t fall into the category exciting plot twist, but into the bad story writing category. Sorry, maybe I am to demanding, but that is just what it would be to me.

Maybe…just maybe they might let us play as stone dwarves? It would fall a bit niche with the whole idea that they’re supposed to be going extinct but honestly the population of Tyria seems to fluctuate uncontrollably and what they define as near-extinct might not be what we define as near-extinct. After all the work my Legendary Vanquisher went through, you’d think there wouldn’t be any wildlife left in Tyria.

I’m not laying the blame on the devs. I’m replying to those that are asking the devs to make content that only zergs or whatever min/max flavor of the month can defeat to force players to “learn 2 play”. What the devs are doing is the correct course, by making the game more accessible to all types of build and not picking build winners.

I’m sorry that wasn’t clear.

no problem with copyright – you can play everything
copyright is only when you trie to make money with this

^

There was US case back in the 90s that set a precedent for personal use to not be all-inclusive within copyright law. It dealt with pirating, specifically, but the same concept would probably apply to plagiarism.

The internet makes the lines between personal and public quite vague and even if there were any legal standing (since ANet is an American developer), I don’t see any courts upholding their stand.

I think the problem is, the game doesn’t really teach you. To learn something you need to research and read about it. Not everyone wants to do that or even knows that there is something to look up.

After all this time, playing since beta, and I’m still shaky on combo fields, how to generate might on various professions, etc. Information on subjects such as Defiance needs to be explained somehow in game.

The problem is none of those things are required. Sure, dungeon groups want them, but game mechanics like dodging, fields and Defiance are not required to complete the game at its most basic level. This isn’t a standalone issue for Guild Wars 2, a lot of games have helpful tools to do better at the game without the developers dropping a tutorial on a person.

List of some game series that don’t have obvious conveyance:
Kingdom Hearts
BioShock
God of War
InFamous
Devil May Cry
Ninja Gaiden
Resident Evil
Uncharted
Batman
And many, many more…

You can play through any of these games, just like you can play through Guild Wars 2. You won’t be as good as other players who decide to test and learn what something is (a skill that says Combo Field: X would make you wonder what a Combo Field is, so you mess around with it until you find out). Sure, now we just go to the forums and to guides and read about the game mechanics – but at some point people decided to test these mechanics out instead of just staring at them.

The game’s easy enough to complete without all of the tactics they don’t cram into a tutorial. The extra mechanics that players have to learn about themselves just make speedclearing better.

Players are left on their own, and if they aren’t theorycrafters like the top 5% of us, they aren’t going to know squat about how to play the game.

I stopped reading right here and I will not read further because this sentence alone makes me think the rest of the OP is going to be bad.

Amended statement:
Players are left on their own, and if they aren’t theorycrafters like the top 5% of us, they aren’t going to be as skilled as the top 5% of us.

This is going to blow…your…freakin…mind…

But the game’s easy. People don’t need to be “Top Ten” and theorycrafters to do the content because the content is that menial. Much like other games, the challenge comes from self-deprivation and personal goal setting. I’ve played a gratuitous amount of games (granted I’ve only touched three MMOs in my entire life, but I digress) and in every single game I can tell you there’s a challenge that emerges from personal handicaps.

What you think is “people knowing how to play the game” is, in fact, an outline of the learning curve – a phenomenon that exists far outside of just Guild Wars 2. As far as most of those examples go, they seem to just be shy of not understanding a certain boon or mechanic, which happens a lot when people are new or they are visually limited by stacking and having a narrow field of vision.

A classic example I’ve always used is the game of BioShock 2. I ran around in Free-for-All multiplayer mode with Slugger and often went 20:0. That didn’t mean I knew any more about the game than other players, it just meant I was better at Sluggering than them and I went further up the learning curve.

Against what some people like to believe, some people really can’t progress up the learning curve because they are incapable. It only seems to echo loudly throughout GW2 though…I guess because the forums on the website allow people to be a bit more vocal.

Setting any goal for oneself is almost required to enjoy games (not just MMOs) and that includes Guild Wars 2. People seem to think it’s ANet’s responsibility to create content suited for them instead of their prerogative to find a way to enjoy the content that ANet creates. MMOs are really the only genre of games where players feel so entitled to satisfaction.

Your comparison with the Bonus Mission Pack is a bit lame…

Since my wife’s Trilogy copy of GW1 came with the BMP, M.O.X. and EotN.

I’m just going to throw this in here that EotN and BMP were likely purchased separately unless it was a special sale. As far as M.O.X. goes, he was a hero unlocked by having all 3 of the main campaigns so buying the trilogy set automatically unlocked him. The comparison isn’t all that lame.

Looking back to my time with Guild Wars 1, I really enjoyed the stories in the Bonus Mission Pack. These were missions that had no impact on the original game or story, but did give some nice lore background, along with unique rewards. It only cost $10 to add to your account, so it was affordable.

Anet should consider doing more of these optional paid content for GW2. With the current storylines in place, there could be options to play as one of the characters in the Destiny’s Edge history. Play in Snaff’s past, or perhaps Caithe’s backstory. See Rytlock’s rise, or Logan’s fight to save the Queen. With Gems, all players could get access to bonus missions without having to pay real money.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Taking this idea to the next level, players who do buy Gems with real money should get bonus, exclusive content! Something like a consumable that grants the ability to wear two full rune sets on armor.

Sure, they’re “getting started” but it’s still been 2 years. If they are legitimately that slow at releasing content, that calls for a serious evaluation of their infrastructure. I’m not claiming to understand how development works but I, and I assume many people on this forum, have held a job before and something was expected of them. Those are just the roles popularized by WoW. The actual concept of “role” can be pretty diverse, to a point where Zerker can be a role – it’s a defined role within GW2. The definition of a role doesn’t have to stick with the WoW schematic – especially not as more and more popular games change the face of the MMORPG genre.

Although I wouldn’t say Zerker is justified as a role. I mean…I play the same way whether I’m using Zerker, Knight’s or Soldier’s gear. It just depends on how much Toughness and Health I want to add to my character.

That’s getting into semantics though.

Those roles were created by anet so how exactly were they popularized by wow?

What?

Sorry, what I mean to say is:

What?

DPS, Support, Control, Healing, Tanking etc. was all vastly popularized by WoW with their hard trinity. The rigidness of the concept was practically created by World of Warcraft. In GW2 you’ve got a much more integral hybrid system where roles have been redefined since the usual roles that we see in MMOs are integrated through all classes. You’ve got a little bit everything in everyone which redefines the concept of roles in GW2.

I’m not about to try to break down the game mechanics enough to say what the new definition of roles in GW2 is but it’s not just taking some of the older, popularized roles from previous MMOs and highlighting them.

There are many different kinds of roles: Buffer/Debuffer/Bunker/AoE/DoT/Trap/Lock/Disabler/Scout/DPS/Support. GW2 saw that most people didn’t like fitting themselves into a single niche so instead they just created an entirely new concept of roles in their game that kind of molds all of these together and throws out stuff that wouldn’t work so well.

My solution would’ve been keeping the AR system from GW1 and removing the stat trees entirely – leaving it up to builds and traits with weapon and armor stats being presented rather plainly.

I felt it was much simpler, there was never a question about balance or attribute points in GW1 – skill balancing was the #1 priority.

If you want to see vertical progression, you can uninstall Guild Wars 2 now because that is not that the Guild Wars Way.

Also, as far as the Legendaries go – they are a fun grind. I’ve almost got my first Legendary. You should consider grinding for one for the horizontal progression. Guild Wars has never been about vertical progression with extreme rarity and value, only horizontal progression to earn the name Fashion Wars.

Don’t complain about a lack of progression if there is plenty of horizontal progression you haven’t tapped yet.

Idk, I think the RNG goldfactor is okay, it’s just…as far as Precursors go, there should be some instance where they can be obtained more specifically with a grind. Like some certain chest that has a better chance of getting them. I would say, perhaps, if they gave each world boss a special chest and Precursor weapons had a 2% drop chance from those chests, it’d incite people to go around doing the world bosses.

Currently, Precursor weapons can come from anywhere and the Mystic Forge – but to balance their rarity, they just have a stupidly low drop chance. In contrast to the kind of drops that were given from, say, the Underworld chest in Guild Wars 1.

They’re definitely getting closer. The problem is they keep getting closer and yet are so slow about rectifying problems. The epitome of ANet’s responses to the game are reflected in the end of WvW Season 2. There has been five business days since the season ended, three business days since the Battle Historian started “offering” rewards and yet we haven’t seen anything come of this. Some people are still missing their claim tickets and the Battle Historian is somewhat useless.

Really, that kind of neglect on something that is seemingly so small (even if it’s not a realistically small matter, they have experts and teams that should be working on stuff) should be unacceptable. Sadly, most criticism from customers is met with fanboyism and ANet devs deleting posts because “they aren’t constructive” or some other nonsense, as if costumers reflecting their knowledge about work ethic from another job field is hate bashing and berating.

I find it hard to believe that the people that made Guild Wars made this game.
How does a developer that made Guild Wars on weaker computers, that had 100’s of skills at least 12 classes… Mercenaries,… Heroes,… Elite Bosses that had their OWN skills. Not Just a HUGE health pool, and 4 or 5 One shot Kill attacks… with intelligent AI…. Have anything in common with GW2 ? ( I refuse to call itn Guild Wars anything).

I really feel Like they put a Tyrian Skin on some other game.

Well, that is what they did. GW2 was always a different game, it wasn’t even marketed to be the same game.

It’s just some rather lame PR and slow amendment processes. It shouldn’t take any more than ten business days to fix a problem – if it does, they need to seriously get some internal boost. I don’t know a whole lot about game and software development, I’ve spent most of my career in music – but if after ten days there wasn’t sign of improvement in some of the productions I’ve helped, most of the production team would have their kitten chewed off.

Small(er) problems, such as the whole WvW Season 2 ending, should be fixed within 2-3 business days. It’s also just poor taste to set a promotional congratulatory message on the front page when victory’s mean kitten because their claim tickets are worthless until further notice.

I still spend money on the game, I still buy stuff – I want to enjoy the game. However I believe if people have left the game, there is no need for them to try and return. The amendment processes ANet’s been implementing have become extremely tedious, long and wasteful. Until ANet gets back on the right track instead of just “heading there,” I wouldn’t expect to see much change.

Bullkitten.

Send me your mini Panda or Kanaxai then. Send me your GW1 account name, and I’ll meet you somewhere.

hey mate first thing Kanaxai was the rarest mini released to the public and for an Asian tournament win so it was impossible to get unless someone was willing to sell which not many every did.

And you just confirmed my argument with the mini panda, it was a drop that you knew was rare and how to get it. And yes I tried but was unlucky.

that is my point that GW2 drops are pathetic compared to the GW1, there is nothing special to farm for. There is no current drop that anyone that plays can be proud to have earn’t for the rewarded effort put in. if you seen someone with a mini panda in gw1 you knew kitten well they earn’kitten due to not many were every traded.

Where is the prestige of an item in GW2 that cannot be brought, that takes effort to earn and that holds prestige. if precursors were that item that could be earn’t thru effort of game play and not just brought it would be worth it . but the current drop rate of next to 0 in playing the game for an item is a pathetic joke, especially with the RNG and nerfing to drops.

There’s a difference between a rare mini and just poor models of drop rates. Read my above post for understanding. Mini Kanaxai and Panda are novelty items of EXTREME rarity – since they were limited rewards as is and don’t have any means of supply introduction (unlike other items of value). It would be like trying to purchase an Everlasting Henchman Tonic instead of just an Everlasting Hero Tonic. The most comparable items to these things in GW2 are all Account Bound and therefore invaluable (Mini Rytlock is actually all I can think of right now, we haven’t really had any SUPER RARE items like Kanaxai and Panda introduced yet – which we could bring up in another thread, make an armor/weapon design contest and winners get something special).

These items are by no means a measure of luck, skill, wealth or value (well, they kind of are) but they were introduced to the supply through contests and were limited to that. I would personally like to see Legendary Precursors have a better drop model, similar to rare items from GW1 such as DSR, Froggy Scepter and Voltaic Spear – just to name a few.

I truly want a better system as well. My hunt for Dusk has been mindblowingly more stressful than I want it to be. Personally, I wish they had implemented some sort of system where certain items were more likely to drop from certain dungeon chests. For example, in GW1 the only way to get DSR was to run Underworld – no other chest would drop it. Froggy Scepter was exclusive to Bogroot’s Growth and Voltaic Spear was pretty exclusive to UW, FoW, Zaishen Chest and Heirophant Chest.

I don’t know how they’d do it in this game but there aren’t any of these named Chests, really. Sure, you get some champ loot and kitten but there’s no dungeon chests or anything that really give you a chance at something amazing. Perhaps it’d offer too much of a surplus to the market, I don’t know. I’m just annoyed that it’s been such a RNG grind for Precursors in this game.

I also disagree with the positions of armor needing to look practical. I mean…tbf, what looks practical and what is practical aren’t always the same. There are plenty of practical looking armorsets, they just look bad.

I want a Conan the Barbarian feel on a warrior…moreso than what it currently available. Or like…Sauron – but without the terrible shoulders. And medium could have like…Aragorn or even a Nathan Drake feel.

And on female? Idk…I’d like to see some real down-to-earth dresses (those three-piece dresses on some of the human NPCs), some gothic dresses. Maybe throw in some scarves and some, like, Idk…just some regular armor of some sort.

I’d just like to see more armor sets come out in this game. I don’t just mean like “one every two weeks” at this point – think at some point they should release an entire expansion, it’s been about 2 years. They can release an expansion that includes more armor sets, more explorable areas, more skills, more story, etc.

@OP

I’m sorry, but consumables were NOT REQUIRED to play GW1 or its end game zones.

Simply no. Just no.

“conset” was introduced in EOTN. How do you think people did UW/FoW/Deep/Urgoz/DoA before EOTN? Right! NO CONSET!

People used consumables and consets BECAUSE THEY COULD, because the option was there, and because it made runs slightly faster.

You could do all end game zones WITHOUT CONSUMABLES.

One of the MAIN USES of consumables, was to maintain the gimmicky Shadow Form skill.

While I certainly agree with this to some degree, after consets were introduced there was a rather sad rise in SC groups that would only use consets and you were required to pay the conset holder 1k as compensation.

Besides, when people ran SCs before consets, it took twice as long. I addressed this in my previous post. So I think saying consets weren’t required is overstepping the line. More precisely, they just weren’t needed. However, based on community responses, consets were required.

Suggestion: Linking GW1\GW2 Achievements

Nope.

Even if we consider the idea of GW1 is on life support, the games are far too different to consider this. There is no Personal Story, conditions don’t even work remotely the same, Interruption also doesn’t work the same, GW1 doesn’t distinguish regions (Maguuma/Shiverpeaks/etc.), the GW1 “equivalent” of “champions/veterans/legendaries” could only be bosses.

Really, in the end, the games are two entirely different games.

Besides, there are already dailies in GW1 called Zaishen Quests – we don’t need more.

And then, if none of that is suitable – the technical problems associated with such a link would be astronomical.

I didn’t enjoy the concept of having to use consumables to complete certain content in the game. In Guild Wars 1 the use of the three consumables was referred to as a “conset”. These consets were used to do high-level end game content, and, basically, became a requirement for that content. Consets became an important part of the Guild Wars 1 economy and there were people dedicated to crafting these consets for end-game content players. If you don’t know what I am talking about or don’t remember, use this link (Conset). To emphasize, these consets were a requirement..

I don’t mean to be “that kitten” but after the 7 hero update I was able to perform significantly well with hero teams without the use of consets. Mercenaries just made it insanely easier (granted, that was something I purchased). Surgeway, Necroway, Discord and I could go on…

There was absolutely no “need” for a conset or the attached elitists that felt like always running with consets. Consets just shaved time off of a run – UWSC could take 45 minutes or about 25 minutes with a conset. DoASC could take 90 minutes or about 45 minutes with a conset. There wasn’t any spectacular “need” for consets other than speedclearing at ultrafast pace.

While I don’t necessarily agree with the elitist concept of consumables and I definitely don’t want to see this game sink into a consumables-required community, I don’t find them detrimental to the game in its current state.

I don’t see any reason to remove something just because some players are better at understanding it than others. HOWEVER, I would like to maybe offer an addendum to your overall idea of consumables:

REVISIT CONSUMABLES
In Guild Wars 1, I felt consumables were much simpler and easier to understand. Overpowered? Sure. But they also couldn’t be used in PvP so they could expand that idea into overpowered consumables not being used in PvP – thus making PvP balancing easier while leaving PvE and WvW largely untouched since enemy AI and siege tactics don’t really give a crap about balance issues (If you want a challenge, make a handicap for yourself – use less traits, use crappy builds – it’s not completely ANet’s prerogative to make content more challenging for the individual).

This might constitute a new thread but perhaps we can start posting examples of armor we’d like to see in the game? I think it’d be neat to visually see what kind of styles the community wants.

It’s been done countless times. You basically have everything, from Terra’s really skimpy armors, to things even a nun would consider to be too covered.
And in the end, it’s of no use.

For 2 years we’ve been saying we wanted a medium armor sets that didn’t come attached with a coat or something a top that goes lower than the waist. In 2 years we had enough medium sets though the cash shop to understand that Anet doesn’t want to do that.

Well nobody’s really tried making a condensed thread of just posting links to imgur or wikis or other image databases that visualize what they like.

For Humans, we bring back the:
PARAGON
Spear Throwing Leaders!
Bring back Spear Skills, Chants and Echos
Add Spear Weapons Unique to Paragons
Uses Heavy Armor

Forgive me if I’m mistaken, but didn’t the Paragon rely on the gods for their power in GW1?

If so, the current lore would prevent them from existing – the gods aren’t hanging around any more.

Someone dosent Know their Lore very well. In Guild Wars 1 the Gods werent around either, but they still channeled the power of the gods as did the Dervish. which they would have an even greater point being the Diciples of Kormir, who gave her life to become the Goddess of Truth.

While that is true to the lore, it’s unmistakable that in GW1 the Gods offered their blessings to the world and interacted with humans – granting passage to the Underworld, Fissure of Woe, offering their blessings during the fight against Abaddon…

In GW2, it is complete silence. Faith seems to be the only pushing matter since there doesn’t seem to be any remnants of their interaction.

Just because the Gods left Tyria doesn’t mean they stopped communicating with Tyria or didn’t have any channels of communication – unless we’re suggesting that every hero of GW1 was completely wasted and delusional for 9 years.

Also, if we’re using lore to justify stuff – magic itself is part of the lore. Bloodstones and the war that sparked the Exodus, etc. To me, there seems to be a clear distinction between magic that can be credited to the Bloodstones and the interaction of the Gods’ themselves, since the Gods don’t need to give magic to anyone directly.

On topic, I don’t think any of these are good ideas. We don’t really need more professions – they can easily accomplish some of this stuff by just designing more skills to currently existing professions and expanding the weapon selection. The 8 professions they give us are rather nice and universal, they can easily accommodate other ideas by just expanding their skill selection.

Thankfully I’m not the only one who realizes skimpy armor makes no sense. Who runs into battle with sharp weapons with their stomach exposed?

Also, did anyone post that vid of the female warrior complaining bout the skimpy armor while the males got fully covered?

Yes. It doesn’t make any sense.

The fact that I sheathe my staff and it floats 6 inches from my back makes no sense.

I can magically make myself appear any where in the world by using a magic map (did I get that from Dora?).

There is a giant candy corn in my home zone that I can mine.

It said I grew up in a family of privilege, where is my home?

Why can’t it just be about making available as many choices and options for people to dress their characters how they see fit so they can enjoy themselves? Does the solution have to involve intolerance?

1. Programming issue. Not even related to topic.
2. Magic
3. Magic
4. You can be in a family of privilege and still not be given a home.

People can dress however they want, I’m just saying its impractical on the field of battle.

Yeah, I run around in a robe with a flaming pumpkin head. It’s very impractical to walk around without muscles and setting yourself alight but my character does it anyway.
