Class damage vs Ranger

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cyninja.2954

ok.. people seem to be missing the point so let me rephrase my statement…

My ranger can 1 shot a regular mob with #2 skill in 5 seconds…

This is not the same as the stacking damage from mesmer sword for example..

This is not “burst” damage with all signets popped.

This is a single shot that will down almost any regular mob before my pet even gets to it.

Now.. as for mesmers.. to get any high numbers.. you have to channel GS 1 skill.. and even on a regular mob, you can reach 10,000 damage.. but it takes FOREVER to kill the mob that way.

The damage is not the same, yet Anet claims that all classes are capable of the same dps/tank/heal roles and should be equal.

Someone said that it is stacking damage… if that is so, they both should be downing the mob with just the mesmer a few seconds longer for the inital build up of mind wrack.

This is not the case.

Even warrior GS skill 2 or whatever it is wont down a mob that fast.

Anet said that when they “fixed” mesmers they would retain thier damage.. this is clearly not the case and after a year and a half i thought something would have been done to level the playing field.

May I introduce you to :

http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/13274266-mesmerino-dpserino-no-copypastarino

Mesmer are primarily a utility class (with medium to low damage), ranger a damage class (with almost no group utility). Comparing the 2 is like comparing apples to Orange juice. They have very little in common, except maybe that they both taste good.

Ranger’s longbow 2 git buffed so the cast time came from 4ish seconds to 2ish seconds. Maybe thats what you’re looking for.
And also, ele kills stuff faster than ranger with more AoE, and necros dont even come close, not sure why you would say necros have high damage o.0

My necro can trash mobs in seconds with d/d and wells. People can say what they want about necro dps, it’s always seemed to be pretty good IMO.

It’s unfortunate that few people realize necro’s do good damage. But the reason they are avoided is due to the fact that they have near no group support and big parts of their damage is over time. Why bring a necro who might not be able to do his full damage when a Warrior or Thief can do the same amount of damage instantly with group utility.

Why do players get multiple portal drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Yeah, instead of wondering or envying people with multiple drops you instead should take pity on them. The extra portal drop does absolutely nothing (except maybe braging rights) but instead could have been some thing valuable or a precursor.

As it stands now duplicate portal drops are actually a good thing for everyone not in the beta yet. Why? Because that portal drop could have gone to someone without a beta spot yet that is not you! This way, even though you did not get a portal (and thus beta spot) neither did some one else.

Once enough beta slot have been filled up, they will close/end the system.

So here’s my hint, every time you seen someone with 2,3 or 5 portals just think:“Cool, this guys portals could have cost me x amount of still open beta spots”.

thats why i always use my dungeon tokens only.
If i get a worthless exo i just sell and make gold that way

Its a guaranteed profit.

Along with the gold i gain from doing the dungeons it will eventually leed you to the sum you need to buy whatever pre it is you need.

Win win

Well yes and no, it’s a guaranteed return on your investment, but you do take a severe hit in profitability. Those tokens used have value, and so do the items you buy with them (could be salvaged for ectos for example, even more if it’s lvl 68+ rares).

Still, it is probably the “easiest” method to justify the mt since people don’t think about the gold value of tokens directly.

I’m not aware of Bandit Chest loot having the concept of DR.

Oh i meant the Embroidered Coin Purses, excuse me. But i assume that also is fully based on RNG then? This is really interesting. Because now i really dont know how or why this constant diminishing returning happen to me fully based on RNG.

Any ideas? Or is it really just tricks my mind is playing on me for playing too much?

That link should be in John’s signature, I swear…

Well, im sure its not an illusion, its just being lucky at the start and then fate decided me as a person should stop being lucky. Seems its out of the hands of anet and in the hands of a higher power, i guess the force wasnt as strong in me during may the 4th.

Same reason why ‘fate’ decided that i should be hacked during the 3rd week after release and lose everything but decided to give me my most prized possesion back (the gold seller missed my corrupted weapon lol)

The same fate that decides that others with over 4,000 hours played never see a precursor drop. While others find 2 back to back. Yup, sounds about right.

As for you getting hacked, that more than likely can be traced back to multiple reasons for which 99% of the time the user is at fault. Here are some:

- weak password
- shared passwords
- troyans
- emails getting hacked
- no authenticator activated (granted, that was not available at launch as far as I recall)
- not having email authentication active (this was available at launch)

How do I get Ascended Armor recipes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Depending on which stat combination you want, you need to buy them off the TP or for most of the stats combos from your crafting trainer.

For example:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_armor

→ QUOTE: Players will need to purchase a Recipe: Ascended Insignia and use it to acquire the recipe for the prefix they want. Players also need to purchase an ascended armor recipe for the appropriate piece of armor; a heavy helm requires a Recipe: Ascended Heavy Helm for example END QUOTE

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Recipe:_Ascended_Heavy_Helm
and
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Recipe:_Ascended_Insignia

QUOTE:

END QUOTE

Careful, the prefix of the armor recipe and the insignia recipe have to match.

Are we really comparing the elite specializations between:

- a current class that is near mandatory or very, VERY sought after in group content: the guardian

versus

- an okay support class that gets taken along if nothing better is found (support ele, thief, warrior, guardian)?

If anet area any where serious about breaking up the meta, it should be almost a given that weaker, less sought after classes get more desirable reworks or additions. Also just as with the chronomancer, the new guardian elite specialization opens up new play opportunities for guardians and focuses on an aspect currently lacking with the class, ranged combat.

I’d say, wait and see.

no it doesn’t? It turns them into backline support. They get traps… which are the opposite of ranged combat. And their bow seems to basically be a support machine. So it isn’t even a ranged combat weapon it is a ranged backline support weapon.

So they get more focus on backline support and traps. How is that not adding something to the guardians repertoire?

Not counting the other arguments made, especially the one about guardians being the end-all of wanted classes atm.

What I have noticed about Guild War’s 2 is ALL the Gold coming into the game comes from the Gem store.

This is 100% false. The majority of gold in game comes from either Dungeon rewards (majority) or selling items to the vendor(all those grey items). Teq gives 2 gold minimum each time it is completed per person. I am sure the 3 headed Worm does a similar amount and other world events give a handful of silver. That is just raw currency rewards right off the top of my head.

BTW, I stopped reading at this point because when someone is SOOOOO wrong in the first couple sentences there is no reason to read the rest of a wall of text like that. IF there are any salient points made they will be repeated later on on a lesser wall.

Cherry picking one long boss event that you will likely do once a day at most to get you just 2 gold when it costs hundreds of Gold to craft anything epic? Really? All the other trash in this game sells for coppers and most of the bosses don’t give you any trash to sell for gold or even copper. Even the level 80 junk sells for coppers.

You tell me how do you make the hundreds of Gold needed in a reasonable time frame to level up your crafting & craft Ascended gear without selling anything on the black market (as your salvaging it all for mats) and without spending weeks or even months grinding?

the gem market creates no gold, it actually reduces gold.
All gold comes from event rewards, gold drops, bag loot (give like 3 copper) and people npcing crap.
then people trade each other thier gold on the bltc.
yes, most people are poor. The rich people got their dough from the poor people, or they did a ton of dungeons.

This. People spewing missinformation about gold comming from magical fairy lands or gem stores should read up on how the TP acctually works before embarrassing themselves.

As was mentioned by others, a good way to check for DR is to track event karma and gold reward.

Also anet has never been secrative about diminishing returns. It was very present in GW1 and was openly communicated for GW2. Only because they don’t reply to every single thread created on a topic, especially missinformed ones, does not mean they are plotting to overthrow all world governments.

My thoughts on the Beta Item

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Grats TC on your portal. I find it funny how people can complain about litterally every thing.

Here is why the portal drop system is better than random account selection:

→ only active accounts get flaged

That’s the only reason you’d ever need to justify it.

Here is another hint, the portal addition was not added for people to farm and get into the beta. It was added exactly due to the fact that having inactive accounts flaged is not beneficial to the overall beta process. Also I predicted exactly what would happen on day 1 of the portal patch:

→ if the amount of people getting the drop is to low/high, then anet will adjust the drop rate.

But they could have picked from accounts active the last 3 months for beta invites! (or similar)
→ True, they could have, and the whine would be the same because people would complain about others who barely log in getting into the beta. Also anet wants to test they new reward system and get as many people to try it as possible.

But I worked my kitten off to get in and got unlucky!
→ Sorry to hear, but the idea behind this system was to allow access to as many active accounts as possible/needed while trying to keep the amount of inactive accounts getting an invite as low as possible.

But they said we could farm for the beta access!
→ True, and maybe the marketing spin should have been amended with the reasoning of why this system was implemented in the first palce.

Everyone should be happy about this system (though it has its flaws) since the end result → as much active beta testing as possible, is what matters.

Question About TP Fees

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Thanks! I missed the listing fee, since I paid it up front. Wow, it’s not very clear about what happens to your money.

To be very honest though, the game states exactly how high the listing and sell fee is before you post the item. It even states so right next to the price you are putting up. Just look to the right and it will state:

- Listig Fee: xxg xxs xxc
- Exchange Fee: xxg xxs xxc

The listing fee gets taken instantly, the exchange fee once the item is sold. That’s the only thing not clearly mentioned (though very logical).

why does gw2 feel like a grindy f2p?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

and by that I mean the nickle and diming grindy feel whenever you want to change your character’s appearance or have more than character 5 slots or more bank slots or….etc. Like I paid 50+ USD $ for it when it originally came out. Played since day 1. I’ve got like two, TWO pieces of cosmetics I’ve unlocked. Seriously? There are f2p games with more cosmetic options for less time spent.

PS I’m focusing on cosmetic because that’s what this game is about, the horizontal cosmetic grind

PPS Yea I have TONs of crappy unlocks from random equipment drops. That’s not what I mean. Why would I want to pay to change my look to crap.

I’ve too played since day 1. Back when 100 gems cost 25 and then 35 silver for a long time.

Why didn’t you unlock account stuff back then? Took no more than maybe 30 minutes to get that money and getting a character fully geared with maximum bag slots took maybe 3-6 hours of farm.

If you have 2 pieces of cosmetics unlocked you are looking in the wrong places. There are hundreds of skins available for 1-2 silver off the TP. Now that they unlock account wide thats a steal.

Yes, rare or elite super duper awesome looking skins might cost more. Doesn’t dismiss the fact that there are hundreds of cheap skins available.

There are also a ton of f2p games where you can buy yourself success in pve, pvp, etc. Where they give you free skins because they know you have to spend money to progress or be efficient. It’s called different business models.

Maybe naming some f2p games that give you everything for free would help strengthen the argument so people can compare and the devs might be able to adjust their business plan.

Bring Guild Wars 2 to Steam please!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cyninja.2954

I like the library in steam and I would love to see GW2 get more exposure. As some pointed out there are some problems:

positive:
- more exposure and advertisement
- steam communities and friends might be incentivised to start playing

negativ:
- valve gets a cut (off of literally every sale done via steam. yes, every single gem sale too)
- legal requirements since valve has some rules that need to be followed by developers

Simply put, it’s the decision between more exposure in the short run versus a cut in revenues in the medium and long run.

Full set of exotic armor and first weapon set comes to about 70-80g without runes (and you can got with cheap runes first). At about 10-15g per hour farming Silverwastes or even doing other things you’ll have the gold in about 4-5 hours tops. Maybe 10 hours if you do other stuff like dungeons etc.

How is this not considered “easy to get”?

Because you need good gear and great game knowledge to farm remotely near that efficiently?

You can’t even reliably get into dungeons with exotic gear so…

How does following the loot train in SW require gear or game knowledge? Even dungeons are more than doable in rares.

The amount of times you get asked to ping gear, especially for anything but high level fractals, is highly exagerated and just not happening.

you don’t have to grind anything. just play the game how you like. full exotic gear is strong enough for the content and very easy to get.

now ofc if you need ascended gear or badly need a legendary, you’ll have to “grind” for it.

it’s like irl. if you want that big house and expensive car, you have to grind it.

OK, i’ll bite.

How is exotic gear “very easy” to get?

PvE only asks for berserk gear, and a draconic chest piece with PPF costs 5G, berserk gear is the second most expensive, how is that easy to get?

Do yout think people will run dungeons with you if your character is using rares? Really? Even in guilds people don’t go with you if you are using rares, plus you don’t want to go with rares for dungeons, because rare gear is horrible in dungeons.

I agree with the ascended one.

Removing RNG, Luck, and Timegates

This I why I like Sega’s Sci-fi MMOs Like Phantasy Star Online 1 and 2 (Japan only for its sequel old one is an ancient MMO that is now private serves only), as you don’t need the best gear to have fun and be still useful/current for other players; its there if you want it, but having the middle of the road and just building your character well will make you able to do everything in all the difficulty modes. Though it is more dungeon crawler repetitive though.

Getting the most powerful and ultra rare stuff will make you just only a bit better and what not and above level to kill a bit faster, but I didn’t notice much value in it when I’m already decent and what I like and have.

It really isn’t your usual Asian grindy game unless you make it grindy and must squeeze every stat out of your character and be a “perfectionist god character”.

Only issue the sequel is Japanese only and you need to use translation patches every 2 weeks after every update or learn the language.

Allmost all endgame content can be done in rares. (besides medium and high level fractals).

Also the minute stat increase from ascended over exotic wants to say “hi”.

Now please don’t tell me getting exotic geared in GW2 is hard or takes a lot of time.

Cyninja.2954

Very sentimental and emotional post, with 0 attempts at a solution for the current situation besides the typical “I want xyz for free” approach.

Yes, ascended gear takes time to aquire (or a gold up when rushing it when buying off the TP). This is intended. That is even the reason ascended was added in the first place bringing scorn from all who hoped/expected exotic gear to be top gear.

If you demand instant/cheaper/free gear, then at least try to grasp the reason behind why things got implemented and propose sensible solutions. For example, you could suggest they add some type of token system which rewards tokens for each failed attempt at getting gear in order to reduce the stress from unlucky rng. Or you could ask for more methods of aquiring gear or some way to track different ways of aquiring gear and have them stack together. Similar to how WvW badges reduce exotic costs.

Here’s a hint for future threads. Don’t pick something that was implemented intentionally and ask for it to be reverted, especially when it’s part of artificially extending the games replayability, without offering something in return.

Suggestion: (Truly)Account-wide gem tools.

Haven’t found this “idea” anywhere on the forum, so, there it is.

Right now, “Unlocked Rewards” tab are pretty useless, at least for me. All the items you can get from there is just “skins”, which are unlocked and free-to-apply anyway, so, you NEVER use this tab, i don’t at least, and can’t imagine why one would.

And now to the idea itself. I do have quite a few of gem-tools, infinite ones, yet, its quite a bother to toss them around between all my characters through the bank, as i can’t even send mail to myself, so, why not use this tab for “account-wide” things like that? They will never be lost again(did loose one of the tools!), and they can be on as many of your characters as you want.

Created 9 months ago, necroed 19h ago, responded to not even 5 hours ago:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-Infinite-Gathering-tools-per-alt/first#post5008347

I’ll even quote myself:

The inifite gathering tools and the salvage-o-matics are not money makers. The exact calculation comes out to some years of play and use needed to recouper the const investment. They are strict convenience items.

Having 1 added to each character increases your convenience at no extra cost, thus anet makes less money. Not going to happen.

ps. be happy they made them account bound in the first place. the inifite gathering tools used to be soulbound.

Ironic, isn’kitten

ArenaNet: “Hey guys, now you need to do this stuff to unlock traits!”

Player A: “Ok, I guess I’ll stop doing skill challenges and do those other things in order to get my traits unlocked.”

Some time later…

Player A: “Finally, just got all traits unlocked. Too bad I have done almost zero skill challenges, but at least I got my traits.”

ArenaNet: “Hey guys, we will rework how traits work! If you haven’t done skill challenges, you won’t have enough hero points to unlock all traits! And those things you did to unlock the traits are useless now, by the way.”

Player A uninstalls.

Be happy about a new system which is more alt friendly/cheaper.

The original system, without the need to unlock trait by trait, was significantly more alt friendly/cheaper.

I am doing what was designed and I will have thrown all of that time away if I don’t get to keep those traits.

As a matter of fact most or a lot of players did get all the traits for free or bought them for alts. You should be happy about getting put on an even playing field with long time players. Getting all the skill point challenges (which a lot of people do for 100% world completion anyway) does not take that long and probably is faster than getting all the traits in the current system.

Be happy about a new system which is more alt friendly/cheaper.

Your answer shows that your “time-out” seems to have been warranted. You are looking at this from the wrong way by the way.

The time-out is not there to annoy you or penalize you harshly. It’s the exact opposite, instead of getting you perma banned you are getting a slight slap on the wrist and the choice of reconsidering if you want to stay a member of these forums or not. Pick option 1 and you’ll be happy they didn’t instant ban you. Decide to go for option 2 and good riddance since continued infractions will lead to longer and perma bans.

Controlling all three sides of EOTM

in WvW

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

EotM isn’t WvW because the points you get from EotM have no value. The outcome of each 3 hour match is meaningless.

Because EotM’s points have no value, players can basically do whatever they want. If your on a map where one corner wants to control/defend and farm bags from all three keeps, then they can. If your map wants to avoid confrontations and just farm karma, they can. This behavior is accepted because the points at the end of each match doesn’t mean anything. Each EotM map changes depending on what the commander/players want ie Karma or bags. You’ll just have to find maps that are after the same thing as you.

This isn’t accepted in REAL WvW because the points matter. Your not just in WvW to get karma and farm bags, its about getting points and beating another world/server.

Except in Tier 1, where it’s about making sure TC stay in T1 so the GvG stuff can continue.

Actually, the whole “it doesn’t matter compared to real WvW” argument is inherently silly. “Real” WvW doesn’t matter either. This is a game, right?

The point he ChoChoBo was making was that EOTM has no value in changing server rankings compared to WvW.

One directly affects ranking and how servers rise or fall at the end of the week, the other doesn’t. Claiming this is equal makes no sense. The argument “this is a game” doesn’t fly since in that case no competative sport would matter in any shape or form.

None of it matters other than the competitor’s desire to win. In EOTM like in any other PvP game you can win by killing other players. In “proper” WvW it’s the same thing, except you get a meaningless leaderboad (because T1 is fixed) too.

Meaningless to you. Not meaningless to others who invest a lot of time in WvW.

Your values =/= other peoples values.

The top tier is fixed. TC aren’t allowed to drop down into T2, which means nobody can go UP into T1. Kinda devalues any meaning in all the rankings.

Yet each and every week thousands of players fight for points and ranking within T1. Again, what you deem has value must not be true for every one else.

their own fault, we got an article about how dungeons would work and ppl got exited.
the first mistake was to make dungeons a type of grind, making dungeon-exclusive armors crazy expensive so it forces you to do a dungeon multiple times just for 1 armor piece.
then they “fixed” the “problem” of waypointing after death so now only a really small group of specific kind of players can complete it.
they also assume that everyone likes hard mode, yet another mistake.

so now they made sure that you have a small group still playing dungeons and the rest is ether playing fractuals or stay in the open world/LW content.
in the end they wasted a huge portion of their own effort to create dungeons but never considered all the angles.

i am not laughing not mopping about it, just wondering when Anet wakes up from their dream world and finally become realistic about the problems they them self have put in the game.

I think you are missunderstanding the argument. No one is arguing dungeons are to difficult, on the contrary, most people are arguing dungeons are TO EASY. On top of that going full damage is possible since every encounter is predictable (again it becomes to easy).

I know of no one being able to do serious fractals having any type of problem with normal dungeons.

The ressurection change in dungeons was one of the best moves anet took. You must not have been around for the “waypoint-zerg-it-down” phase. It was terrible.

Dungeon tokens are fine. No, getting everything you want in 1 day is not going to happen. Make short term goals and have your armor after 1.5 weeks. Learn patience.

Be better to ask them to sell the x-pac in the 3 game modes.

  1. PvE only x-pac $30
  2. PvP only x-pac $30
  3. WvW only x-pac $30
  4. All the above $75

edit: imo, i wouldn’t really care what they do, i play all 3 game modes pretty evenly so regardless, i’d be buying the entire x-pac

You do know that the PvP and WvW stuff is coming for free for all players right?

Yes, many of the PvP and WvW features will be rolled out for all base game players. But that doesn’t mean they won’t roll out specific PvP/WvW exclusive x-pac content. So you can’t rule anything out, really. I mean, from a marketing/economic perspective, offering exclusive x-pac content for PvP/WvW players would be more economically beneficial.

Depends on if offering split content would increase the sale quantity and increase overall revenue while keeping in mind that fracturing the community and game causes long term problems.

Since most people will want to have all of the x-pac content splitting it up and charging more total compared to leaving it bundled charging less in total is not necesseraly the smartest way to go marketing wise. Just look at how excessive DLC affects the community of other games.

The fracturing comes from the fact that Stronghold and the new Borderland map don’t require HoT. What happens when a PvP only player doesn’t want to buy HoT because all they want to do is play PvP and they play 1 or 2 classes? If that’s the case for me, I don’t buy HoT. I still get to play the new PvP mode, I don’t have access to the Elite specs though and depending on how “elite” they are, I may want them, but it doesn’t justify a whole x-pac purchase. Offering them on the web shop offers value and access to what I want to play and not what I don’t care about.

If it were up to me, PvP would be f2p. Seriously. Get people in the game without charging a dime and let them access The Mists only. Put the Mystic Forge back in and that place has what it needs to let this be another viable revenue stream in a big way. PvP would never lack for participants and the gem shop and webstore would have all they could want if they wanted to buy the game after playing some matches.

Your scenario ends with:
- people without any HoT content bought (aside from the free stuff)
- players buying the entire HoT content
- players buying the pvp only content
- players buying the wvw only content
- players buying the pve only content
- players buying the pvp+wvw content
- players buying the pvp+pve content
- players buying the wvw+pve content

Where as keeping it bundled results in:
- people with HoT
- people without HoT

More fracturing is never good. You are not a majority, more a minority of wanting only to purchase the pvp content. More choice is not always the best solution especially long term.

I’m not even going to comment on the mystic forge addition to pvp. I’m sure there is enough people who hated the old system way more than the current one.

Edit: The amount of people playing pvp hasless to do with it being f2p or not (the b2p is laready very cheap) but more with the quality of pvp offered. Instead of asking for f2p pvp you should be asking anet to improve and diversify pvp.

As recommended, nod and smile. If he keeps pestering you direct him to https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge#Recipe_sheets especially the part where it states:

“In addition, the output equipment will be 3-12 levels higher than the average of the levels of the four piece of input equipment, except for exotic weapons averaging L75 or better, in which case there is a chance of ending up with L70-79 weapons. There is also a roughly 20% chance of receiving a higher quality item.”

If he still does not see reason mention that this seems to have been a bug that should get fixed and you’d write a ticket to anet support so they can remove his precursor due to bug abuse.

hey!. just want to tell some backstory before asking the question:

ive bought gw2 at around mid-end 2013 and been enjoying the game for couple of monthes and not biggie. and ive decided to leave the game for some other meat on the table (SoO wow mostly. still sorry about that till today…).

ive decided to come back to gw2 after i heard LOTS of new stuff i totally missed and a good friend of mine encouraged me to download it again, he said lots of good stuff about the game wich hyped me here and there but theres only one thing he told me that bugged me for a little: jumping quests, lots of jumping quests.

i remember even when playing ive been trying couple of jumping events and quests and such and i didnt realy find it fun, even quite hated them for a while. so i asked my friend how many jumping stuff there are already in the game: “TONS that can waste you days, litterly the majority of the game!” thats what he said. i got bit confused for a moment and decided to talk to him in another day or so deciding, so i decided to ask the community to help me about that. how many jumping quests and events are there in the game, and are they realy the majority of the game?!

any help will be appreciated

The game has jumping quests? Barely. There are jumping puzzles and those still exist, but they are neither mandatory not needed for 99.9% of the pve.

While at it, the game has no sub fee. You obviously got interested through, advertisements, lack of other good mmos, friends, position of the moon relative to earth, w/e. Why not try it out and make up your own mind?

account hacked

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cyninja.2954

scionicdeath.4513 his gw2 and gw1 account has been hacked for 34 days now. This is the second time it gotten hacked but gw2 didn’t want to change the email address the first time. Now it got hacked for the second time. They are now just sending the same repetitive shortcut to the account recovery. When he states that the account recovery is not allowing him to reset his password and is also asking why is it not allowing him to change the password when he is correctly typing all that he needs, and is now asking for help or why he cant, all he has been getting is, “we are looking into the account or the shortcut to the account recovery” and nothing other then that to be done to the account.

[Meanwhile] someone is playing on his gw1 account or just selling off all his stuff. Why is it taking so long for guild wars support to do something to help him get his accounts back since he is typing in all the right things?

He sent me a copy of all the support tickets he wrote and he even gave me the password he used to use. He also gave me the serial for my to try my self email address and character name and I cant even change the password to his account. What is going on with that? I am his sister. I guess support just don’t understand or don’t know what or how to handle it.

So, it appears his Guild Wars 1 and his Guild Wars 2 accounts have been hacked? Or is it only his Guild Wars 1 account. Your account of what happened doesn’t make that clear.

If it was his Guild Wars 1 account that was hacked, he needs to be talking to Guild Wars 1 support. That game is on maintainence and support is minimal. It could take months.

Did he do a security sweep of his computer? If the hacker got into his mail he could be intercepting the emails to support and sending him that password change link. He needs to do a full security sweep if he hasn’t already done so and change the password on his email afterwards.

Guild Wars 1 and 2 use the same loging and password if linked. Makes no difference which got hacked since the other will be affected aswell.

If you get hacked this soon a second time, you really should:

- scan your computer for troyans, viruses, etc
- redesign how you make up passwords
- create a new secure email address. I doubt he was denied changing the email, probably was just to lazy to change it
- reases which websites you go to and where you leave personal information
- get the mobile authenticator! (I would have gotten this 0.0001 seconds after the first hack)

The reason he might not be able to change the email after the 2nd hack is very likely since some where a lot of red flags went up. Who is to tell he is the true account holder. Keep talking to support and hope they fix the problem. Then getting kitten safer and protect your account.

This is sound advice. I’m just going to add, whatever you do will be less or even way less efficient then farming the gold and buying the dust off the TP. Time is a ressource, use it wisely.

My gold disappeared: friend sent it?

Kinda curios why your friend wanted two of the same skin. Once they are unlocked, they can be used on any staff, any number of times. And getting a transmutation charge is a heck of a lot less than 100g.

To sell off and make some gold, we are trying to make incin to sell and all we need is the precursor, but I’m a little worried now because if he sends me the 1500g we agreed on it could be taken off me before I manage to pay another friend the 1100g I owe him for sunrise

Since you are working together with your friend, might I focus your attention to this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Gold-Transfer-Changes/first

We are introducing a change to gold transfers as part of an effort to address fraud and account theft. Beginning on March 31, 2015, there will be a limit on how much gold a single player can receive through in-game mail and/or the Guild Vault each week. This limit, which is based on historical data, should not affect the normal transfer of gold between players. It is designed to prevent rapid and abusive transfers of gold that may be part of account takeovers, fraud, and RMT (gold selling).

Full details about the system:

  1. Each account will have a limit on how much gold can be moved from its mail in-box and Guild Vault into its wallet each week.
  2. If you receive more gold through in-game mail than you can accept in a week, the gold will remain attached to the mail in your in-box and can be retrieved up to the limit the following week or in subsequent weeks.
  3. For the purposes of this limit, a week begins at 12:01 AM UTC each Sunday (5:01 PM PDT/4:01 PM PST Saturday).
  4. Gold received from the Trading Post is not subject to this limit.
  5. The maximum amount of gold that can be sent via a single in-game mail will be 500 gold.
  6. The maximum total amount of gold that an individual player account can accept in a week will be 500 gold.
  7. We will monitor this system and may make changes to the limits if we find that changes are necessary.

If your friend is sending 1,500g. Don’t expect them to arrive any time soon. Same goes for the 1,100g you owe.

Should not have happened.

Then again, Anet has precise data about how long your 2 accounts have been friends, where the gold he had came from, where the 2 Lovestruck Staff skins you had came from, etc.

Basically they know everything there is to know about your 2 accounts. Stricktly speaking, your gold should not have vanished. If the gold was removed, there might have been something fishy going on. That paired with the fact that trading via mail is generally not supported you might want to write a ticket to support.

I just wouldn’t get my hopes up.

ps. The excuse of having traded with a “friend” is one that comes up very often when dealing with rmt. As I said, Anet have all the data. If this really was the case, be happy you still have your account.

Berserker Meta Discussion

Oh look. A new “nerf berzerker gear” thread. Haven’t seen one of those around in how many days?

And the arguments are all so new an fresh, except NOT.

How limited are people? The zerker meta exists not because of the stats, but because of the game design. Granting people the ability to play maximum damage gear and compensate with player skill, talents and class synergies will cause maximum damages to come out on top. It does not matter if the gear is called berserker, assassins, sinister or what ever.

The only thing happening with 99% of the suggestions given by players is, if at all, shift value between the maximum damage sets. While at the same time aggravating a big part of the player base by forcing them to reaquire BiS damage gear.

You want a solution to the zerker meta? Change damage skills to multiple viable damage sorces, aka make conditions viable. Or remove tripple damage sets entirely (which again will lead to more aggravating and a shift to the next best maximum damage set).

Let this dead horse rest, please…

To cut this poster off at the knees.

Black Powder uses 6 initiative. You have to recast it every 4 seconds to keep enemies in the TINY bubble blind.

Infusion of shadow only gives you 2 initiative back from stealth. Using heartseeker to get into stealth costs you 3 initiative.

You lose 7 initiative every time you pull off this combo with Infusion of shadow.

You can’t keep Black Powder up indefinitely using the tactics he described or even keep it up past 8-12 seconds. In short the original poster is lying, posting misinformation or is uninformed.

Wrong. Did you factor in the 3 second stealth which you can sit out and regenerate initiative? Just tested it myself, you actually can keep this combo up permanently or at least near permanently. OP is actually right about that.

Even if you had godlike timing and managed to use Heartseeker 3.99 seconds into Blinding powders effect and then sat in stealth for 3 seconds doing nothing to regain back 3 imitative your still losing initiative each time you do this combo.

So this tactic requires you to sit in stealth the entire 3 seconds while damaging no enemies to work?

I edited my post with the exact calculation. With lag and minor good timing it’s not that hard. Mind you, I still think the OP is wrong and this combo is fine. Still it is doable.

Why in gods name someone would willingly level like that though is beyond me. There are way faster ways, not to mention killing higher level targets is not ideal. (That said, I did run into exactly that problem since enemys 10 levels higher become immune back when I leveled my Thief alt. Hey it was 2013 and exploring was fun).

The exact math would be:
- black powder -6 initiative → gain 4 initiative during duration = sum -2 initiative
- Heartseeker -3 initiative + 2 initiative from Infusion of shadow → gain 3 second stealth + 3 initiative = sum +2 initiative

-2 + 2 = 0 = permanent

Your wrong about regaining all your initiative. Black Powder uses 6 initiative. You only gain 2 initiative back from infusion of shadow and it takes 10 seconds to regain one initiative back naturally. So you will be losing at least 4 initiative every time you pull off this combo.

Not going into the OPs nonsense since black powder is fine and low level pve experience, not to mention super inefficient leveling experience, is not basis for balance.

Thiefs regenerate 1 initiative PER 1 second, not 1 per 10 seconds. Slight difference there.

World Boss Proposal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Problem:

Since the introduction of the Mega-server World Bosses are timed and totally crowded. Neither is it fun/interesting to kill a world-boss in a crowd of 100+ nor does Gw2 work very well with 100+ people concentrated on the same small area.

  • FPS breaks down
  • Ping breaks down due to server overload
  • A lot of people have DC/Client-crashes due to overload
  • Mega-server technology has problems with the masses of people moving around in the world.

Also when a boss-kill is part of the daily quests it’s partially hard for those with limited time with each boss appearing only once every few hours.

Propoal:

Make world-bosses always startable by anyone after a 15min cool down. Tequatl, Karka and 3-H worm can already be started by guilds at any time. Add such an NPC to every so far timed boss (beside Teq and 3-H worm that should remain as timed bosses as they need that many people), starting the pre-events for that boss, but make it free (or cheap, some silver donation collection) to start for anyone.

Still the restriction to 1 bonus-chest per day and account and 1 boss-chest per day and char should be in place, such that farming them is severely restricted (maybe add champ-bag is only dropped, if boss-chest is available).

Why does it help

  • As in principle all bosses are always available people will spread out further, you do not have to follow the general boss-kill mega-zerg (mega-zerg as it it much larger than the capacity of one map).
  • You can do boss-dailies whenever you like and find enough people to do it.
  • For dredge commissar (which is available every 20min) it already works very well, it has 10-30 people killing him (no fps/ping drops, no DC/crashes, …) not 100+
  • People can organize world-boss tours as they like them, e.g. in a guild group, as a random group as a community TS and in a size they like, not being forced by mega-server into a 100+ crowd.

Or instead of your solutions:
-> the player base will become fractured leaving less people to do the events
-> this might not be an issue with the easier bosses, but some of the higher tier ones will now lack players and fail
-> failing bosses multiple times leads people to stop trying them, leads to even more fracturing of the player base (Tripple Trouble any one?)
-> boss events will be run during prime time only as a result of not getting enough people together. this is a huge penalty to people not able to play during prime

The only good idea is the guild group one, and something many people have been asking for. More guild content. Many players do not have guilds, or are in small personal friend guilds no where near enough manpower to do big boss fights. This already is a problem with guild missions.

I despise chest farm too so I always do event maps BUT I NEVER had any problem finding event map after event map. The longest I had to wait for some taxi was about 10min during TEQ time or late at night for EU timezone (but that`s to be expected). They just need to increase event rewards to match those in chest farm so both ways are equally good.

This. Yes, there are many chest farm maps, but especially during prime time there are multiple “SW 50%+” map invite poping up. Pick what is to your liking and play that.

Pretty much and it’s not even enough to make a room for Vinewrath.

I was just in one that had a commander coordinating people in a very friendly and positive way and suddenly someone rolls in shouts “Chest train going up at red tag!” and suddenly the support at the forts evaporated as everyone scrambled to join the zero effort loot parade.

It’s making this game a joke and really eating at my hopes for Heart of Thorns.

I have never seen that happen, as in ever. And my sample size (over 40 VW events with preevents starting mostly at 50%) and multiple hours of chest farm (where once the map reaches 70% people start working towards VW) might not be big, but I feel I understand how SW works.

You are taking a one in a life time thing and blowing it up to something it is not.
