So what’s the alternative? Have rings drop more seldomly? Yeah I’m sure that change would be appreciated.

Having rings/armour drop without the stats on them perhaps? In that case you can choose something usefull for a change?

Result:

1 week after the change people crying of having to many rings, yet again. We have pristine fragments for rings, and armor is supposed to be time gated.

Ehm, no. We got enough sexyfied armor in the game already.
Too many female heavy armor has to glorify the womans body.
It`s something that is fun once in a while, but how about some more practical ones?
Without holes in the armor to show off legs, etc…

No idea what you’re talking about with heavy armor. There’s not NEARLY enough good looking heavy sets that aren’t just big bulky hulk armor. There’s exactly ONE pair of shoes for heavy gear that has high heels, and that’s the Phalanx set. I DEMAND MORE UNCOMFORTABLE FOOTWEAR!

It is heavy armor after all. Check here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_female_heavy_armor

Just by skimming through I can see:

- Grasping Dead
- Gladiator
- Barbaric
- Pit Fighter

which are borderline to be even considered armor. Flamewrath from the gemstore is light on the armor part too.

Or just restrict it. Its interesting to me that it seems like those who push for the easiest/quickest route, are the same ones complaining about lack of challenging content. Like Anet can fart out content whenever they please.

Tedious and/or boring content =/= hard content.

On that note, no content 3 years old will be hard unless it gets reworked massively.

Change map, lose event.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cyninja.2954

So, this is the second time that this happens.

I was on Frostgorge Sound and the Jormag event was starting and that change map prompt appears, you know , the one about few players on the map. And for the second time, i’ve lost the event because i’ve accepted this map change, i was put on another map with the event already done.

This isn’t fair at all, is there any way to change this?

So the game asks you if you want to relocate to a more empty server and you accepted. Working as intended.

Different servers have different events going on at the same time. Even something like a World Boss event(which should start at the exact same time) could be off by a few minutes. So if you’re in the middle of an event, please wait until the event is over and you’ve gotten credit and loot before changing servers.

And here is the reason why you get placed in empty servers, because every one else has left already. Knowing is half the battle.

Easy solution: Bosses do not spawn until every mob leading up to the boss has been killed.

Making dungeons take 10 minutes longer for full berserker, and 20 minutes or more for non zerker.

I’m sure that will go well.

Each have some merit to be honest. Some players simply don’t have the time to get on and play in a dungeon for hours – so they resort to Zerk gear. Others want to feel useful in any situation playing what they want to play and to be allowed into groups not based on gear or skill requirements, but as simply being needed. Both paid for a game that has made it rather clear as to which side they lean towards of this spectrum.

And both sides are able to play with like minded people and create parties with custom demands. It does become a problem when people post for something and others join and hijack the group (both for non zerker geared people joining zerger groups and vice versa). So in essence the lfg system might need to be improved.

Also the way the game is currently designed, “feel useful in any situation” is highly subjective but unfortunately objectively berserker gear is the most useful in any situation (except tequatle or player skill being to low to run full berserker). In case of people being to unskilled to run full zerker the demand for full zerker also works as a player ability check.

Though little of this has to do with the issue at hand. The issue being that dungeons are fine the way they are. And even if they weren’t, anet has way better things to do then polish up 3 year old content.

It's not the zerker meta, it's might stacking

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

On and off we see discussions about how the zerker meta has made for “shallow” dungeon content. By this we mean that the desire to run dungeons using pure-DPS builds rather than more utility approaches has made for a meta that some folks consider restricted to a small subset classes, builds, and playstyles.

I wanted to point out that it’s NOT the zerker meta responsible for most of this. It’s a very small piece of the zerker meta: might stacking.

Might is simply too powerful, and stacking might is too essential. It needs nerfing. If it weren’t for might stacking, most of the “boring” aspects of the zerker meta would go away. Class/utility composition? Well we wouldn’t be dependent on PS warriors, fire fields, and blast finishers, which would significantly open up class and build options.

Everyone standing in one spot? This won’t go away entirely, but without the dependence on might stacking the number of places where this is required/expected would definitely go down.

The pure-DPS zerker approaching being bar-none the most effective/efficient way to clear dungeons? Without might stacking it might not be nearly as viable, or at least not optimal for EVERY fight.

With HoT, ANet is making changes to put “essential” features of different classes into the core traits since they realize there’s no real choice when people are required to pick up certain traits to make their class useful. I hope ANet realizes this is currently the same issue facing might stacking.

It is WAY too powerful to be left in its current state as an optional mechanic, since it dominates all other combo field choices and clearly isn’t considered “optional” by the meta at all. Either the effects of might stacking need to be mostly baselined into class DPS or else it just needs a straight up nerf. Either way, let’s end the tyranny of the might stack!

You sir, have absolutely no idea what you are writing about.

I’m slowly getting tired of having to educate every 500 AP uninformed poster who thinks he has dug up the holy grail no one else has ever considered…

Damage is not the problem or main reason for zerk meta viability. It never has been. Might stacking already got nerfed and is again not the problem, at least not for zerk gear. Nerfing might would hurt all the other gear sets way, WAY! more.

Stacking is done not only for might, but for defensive aoe cooldowns and splash damage. Defensive cds and effects being but not limited to:

- aoe blind
- aoe aegis
- aoe interupts
- aoe pulls

Now if you wanted to write about combo fields being different in viability we could start talking about that.

fire – good for might stacking and aoe blasts (gets used a lot)
water – great for aoe healing (gets used a lot in pve, gets used almost exclusively in wvw)
dark – used for skipping content (gets used some times)
air – aoe swiftness (gets used a lot in wvw for mobility pre fight)

the rest are more situational and certainly not as desired as the 4 mentioned. Can’t have everything equaly powerful.

Regeneration Stacking in Intensity

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Regeneration stacking is a HORRIBLE idea. There are burst heals. Warrior shouts, peoples number 6 skill, things of that nature. Regeneration can be stacked in duration, which means unless you’re boon stripped, you constantly have that hp dripping in. That’s important for classes with low HP pools because they cap out really quick. The regeneration boon is a great set it and forget it tool for healers so that they don’t have to micromanage people. They just pump as much regeneration on them as they can and then only swing back around if the person needs a hard burst. If regeneration stacked in intensity people would just look at you, realize you had ABUNCH of regeneration on you, and then instead of wasting their burst skills on you they would just hang back and let it burn out really quick.

So that is different in the boon getting striped no later than 3 seconds after you’ve gained it how?

EDIT: since when do we have “healers” in this game? Or did I miss a memo?

New Legendary Weapons - Crafting components

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Can anyone confirm if there will be any fundamental changes to the way legendary weapons are crafted.

I.e. do you still need gift of mastery, gift of fortune, gift of XXXX and precursor? or will the gifts of mastery and fortune be replaced with something else?

I have tried searching this forum but for what ever reason my search function doesn’t work.

No one can confirm or deny this, though there has been no mention of legendary crafting getting changed.

Now if you were refering to precursor crafting (essentially a part of crafting your legendary), then yes, that will get implemented but no one knows how and to what extent available materials will be used.

Current best assumptions are that legendarys will still require the mystic forge and:

- 1 precursor
- 3 gifts

Dont Nerf Zerk Meta

Cyninja.2954

My point is that it should never be easier to run a 5 zerker party as opposed to a 4 zerker and 1 non-zerker party, and yet that is exactly the case, particularly with bosses like the CoF P1 Slave Driver that essentially punish players that do not provide enough party DPS to end the fight before a wipe. Sure, it makes sense for a run to take longer with less damage, but it should never be more difficult at the same time.

Why think that? Given the nature of glass gear, it makes perfect sense for the addition of one member who is under-contributing toward the intended tactic to increase difficulty. All that does is underscore the potential for risk in all-out damage and the thin margin between success and failure in some glass groups.

Look at the flip side. All-clerics parties have a very easy time. There’s even a video showing such a party doing an Arah path without using dodge at all. I believe one of the participants already linked it in this thread, but here it is again.

How many players not contributing to a sustain tactic would it take to make that experience harder? I doubt that anyone tested that. I also very much doubt one player not adding to the tactic would do it because there’s less risk in a sustain build.

You’re missing the point entirely. If defensive gear is meant to be easymode, then why does it make things harder in some cases than running with a full zerker party, which is supposed to be the most difficult team composition to run with? It makes sense for it to make runs last longer, but it should NEVER be more difficult. The difficulty of any given encounter based on gear used by each party member should scale in a purely linear fashion, with full defensive gear being the easiest, and full offensive gear being the hardest. It should NOT be harder to run with 4 zerker 1 cleric than with 5 zerker, in any case. No exceptions.

No. Who ever said full defensive gear was supposed to be easier? Where do people get this notion of tanky = easy?!

Full defensive gear does exactly 1 thing, it makes you tankier. It has no desired effect on how hard or easy content is.

Now if endgame content damage scales so high that this extra protection is of no help, well tough noodles. Do you see zerker players complain about tanky builds being able to run through 80% of the pve game without ever having to dodge or pay attention to what is happening around them? No.

Or anet could try to focus their attention on creating new interesting content instead of “fixing” old content in ways some people “think” are right.

You like killing trash mobs? Go ahead and group with like minded people and kill away.

Wait, you can’t find enough people who want to kill trash with you? So you want anet to inentionally implement something that would annoy a bigger part of the player base instead of focusing on new fun content? Outch.

Are dungeons in a bad state? Debatable, some like them, some don’t.

[suggestion]- laurel purchasing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Cyninja.2954

Ask yourself this now… If that was the case then do you think T6 mats etc would plummet? It’s a ripple effect… Anything bought with Laurels that can be sold on the TP is going to make an impact on a lot of stock/balance if Laurels can simply be bought as easily as gems to gold.

This makes no sense. If they implement buyable laurel’s via gems, why would they compete with their own gems < – > gold exchange?

Best case:
you get more gold back from buying laurels with gems then trading the gems in directly for gold -> makes no sense since now anet is creating competition to their own exchange

Worst case:
you get less gold for buying laurels with gems and then converting them to gold.
-> while there would be some “xxxxx” who aren’t smart enough to figure this out, 99.9% of the players would catch on fast that it’s a bad idea and would not do it, so why implement it.

I think most people don’t understand WHY loyalty currencies are getting implemented accross most games currently (be it handy games, MMOs, other multiplayer games, consols etc.). The current belief in the gaming industry is that having people come back to your game regularly (even if only in small chunks) creates more of a bond.

Whether this is true or not, it’s the current modus operandi in game design and I doubt anet will sabotage their own loyalty currency.

Kinda regret crafting a GS.

Eh, ok, thanks for the comments and sorry for anything. Didn’t mean to bother people.

the main idea people in this topic tried to communicate to you: you worry too much about other people’s opinions. if you craft your character’s gear looking for validation from others, you’ll always end up disappointed. just craft the weapon because you like it and want to see it, not because you think it will draw admirers and compliments.

example: don’t worry about whether the topic bothered anyone, and you don’t need to apologize for anything.

Next time, maybe offer some alternative or solution, that is unless all you want to do is vent.

Will buying HoT be mandatory? (like in WoW)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cyninja.2954

Not sure what you mean by mandatory. None of WoW’s expansions were mandatory.

They were mandatory if you wanted to participate in the expansion content, but there were enough people who played vanilla WoW without upgrading to BC and so on.

Will you require HoT to access the expansion content. Sure, oherwise why sell an expansion?

Will you still have access to the game and everything you have access to now? Yes, so the expansion by all definitions is not mandatory.

Mandatory expansions are ones were you lose access to the game due to server version and your version being different.

Let’s say zerg does damage equal 1% of boss’s health per second. So 100 seconds to kill it.

If someone gets defeated and is revived, zerg can’t kill in 100 seconds because reviving takes some time.

Assuming everyone does same damage and scaling is fair. If someone gets defeated and waypoints, the boss scales down and zerg will still do 1% max health per second. Zerg will still kill the boss in 100 seconds.

This holds true AS LONG AS THE DEAD PLAYER DOES NOT RETURN. The moment he returns, the boss gets upscaled again and you have to follow my calculations. And then it’s not quite so simple and it all depends on how long you have to run from the wp and how fast the zerg is killing the boss.
But because of other factors like annoying map clutter, risk of reviving and not beeing able to pick up icebows… it’s probably better to waypoint. But certainly not because of the damage loss or scaling alone!

Wrong. If the player returns and the boss scales up based on his now lower life, it again is a benefit for the raid. No matter how you turn it, waypoint when dead wins out.

Not even going to comment on your random waypoint run times and not adressing the danger people face when ressurecting, especially during tequatle. That fight is one of the WORST example for ressurecting due to all the near instant kill aoe.

EDIT: and before we get all the boss scale off of base health, what about boss fights that change phase depending on their health? Yeah I thought so.

Rework hearts - Make them fun!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cyninja.2954

I like the idea, but you are mixing up heart quests with events.

What you discribed are multistep event chains which are already ingame. I’m not for copying content which is already present.

Heart quests were always designed as:
1.) oh I stumbled across a heart quest (much like traditional quests in other MMOs)
2.) oh the heart quest gives me 2-4 different ways to fill up the bar (unlike traditional MMOs where you HAVE to kill those 20 rats)
3.) heart quest done, oh whats that? An event? Let’s check that out
4.) event/eventchain done, oh whats that, another heart quest? (repeat from step 1)

As it stands heart quests are your traditional quests from other MMOs with multiple ways to complete them. Nothing more, nothing less. They fullfill their designed role.

No Jumping Puzzle is tied with Map Compleation… I think.
You have to get to the Jumping Puzzle but you don’t have to succeed doing it to get the part of the map.

Oh… Yea… There is two Vistas in the game tied to a JP :-/ But they are quite easy and not in any way near problematic walls where the camera will go bonkers.

I wouldn’t consider Tribulation Rift easy. (Admittedly, it’s not the hardest puzzle in the game, just not easy for someone closer to 50 than 20.) The camera there does get tangled up on my norn in a few places with the scaffolding, but I don’t remember if it does on my sylvari or asura. (I did it on the norn first, so that’s the one I remember most clearly.)

Yeah with jps you really notice that you are usually best off running with human sized frame (meaning human or sylvari). Charr, Norn and asura all have some model size issues you need to get accustomed to since the models are bigger/smaller than the hitbox.

I kinda view the later 3 races as the masochistic approach to doing jps. I’ll stick to my sylvari any day.

so in conclusion, because ppl don’t want to help dead players because they are afrait the event fails, there is no need to rez at all.
then ask your self this, why does the mechanism exist at all?
i mean, if no one is gonna rez anyway it’s a waste of dev time to even have it in the game in the first place.

i am not as selfish, i rez.
i don’t care if the event fails, as long as others can enjoy playing the game it’s worth it.
seriously, ppl care way to much about reward but don’t care one single bit about other players.
and don’t come and say you do, you would never ignore a dead player if you do.
it’s not a matter of “how much time does it take to walk back”, it’s a matter of helping a fellow player.

better yet, i had times when ignoring rez became a failed event, ones i started ressing players it was a cake walk.
quit being selfish, start helping players.

What?

So by your logic I should ressurect a dead player possibly making the event fail which in turn means him, me and possibly 50+ other players do not get the event rewards.

Opposed to having him waypoint after being already taged to the event, the rest of the players finish the event and every one gets loot and is happy including the player who waypointed out.

Somehow I doubt your definition of fun will ring true with a majority of the player base. Who is the selfish one now? Try again.

lol, you have no idea how many times i dies and never got the reward even while i did 95% of the event alone, try again.

Considering it takes no more than 4-5 auto attacks to tag an event, I’d say you are the problem, not the system.

If you get a cool item and ping it like I did to my group of friends and say chat, the salt…. Its as potent as diving head first into the dead sea.

As someone with multiple accounts, the 500g per week limit is horribly restrictive.

A method, any method, to provide additional authentication would be a godsend.

Whether it be using an authenticator, or a second password. Just something.

Currently I’m unable to upgrade a guild bank on my alternative account because the system simply doesn’t work and has flagged my account as being over 500g despite not receiving any money except from the trading post.

But even if not suffering from this bug, those with multiple accounts and a fair amount of gold are needlessly befuddled. The benefit I get from this is zero, I have IP verification, unless someone breaks in to my house they aren’t getting my gold, and I’d hope that anyone with over 500g in coin is the same.

The 500g per week limit was not introduced so hackers have a harder time getting your gold.

It was introduced so RMT has a harder time getting their gold to customers.

21s – solo – in combat
19s – solo – in combat with 10% faster res trait
7s(almost 8 ) – solo – out of combat, faster res trait doesn’t seem to do anything out of combat

It seems longer when in the thick of things, but even I was surprised at how little time it actually takes.

However, I don’t recommend taking a rez trait except in boss battles that always include a lot of death, and also have a long trip back from a waypoint. The other trait you have to give up is probably worth far more to the overall combat process.

We should also time how much the time compresses to have more than one rezzer. I suspect it’s a wash, but that requires proof. Hopefully having 3 rezzers takes exactly 1/3 the time. But, it might not, and it’s not easy to test.

21s for 1 person solo to rez someone in combat means the person dead now has to at least do 45 – 50 seconds of full damage to compensate for the damage loss ALONE.

That is not considering:
- the increased danger of getting the ressurector killed
- the ressurection getting interupted due to having to evade attacks (effectively increasing the time it takes to rez someone while not doing damage)
- the fact that the player who died might have subpar gear and/or skill making him a less valuable addition to the group
- not taking into account different damage boss phases or periodic boss immunity timers
- the fact that if the dead person waypointed none of these things would be an issue (effectively making waypointing out until the below the optimum amount of players are undercut the better solution)

I’ve been thinking, and I’ll go one step further:

If waypointing really does cause the boss fight to go more easily, then that’s an exploit bug that needs to be fixed. The devs clearly consider waypointing out to be cheating, (they removed the ability to do so in dungeons for that very reason).

The game rewards players for reviving and rezzing other players. Why would they allow a cheesy exploit if they clearly want to point people to the opposite action?

If it operated this way, they should do the same thing they did in dungeons: no waypointing when combat is still occurring.

By the way, that video needs to be done again, this time leaving the dead player in the combat area (i.e. not waypointing). Only if the boss’s HP stay higher (longer than in the current video) would it be valid as an argument against my position. And, even then, it just drops back to the time-to-run vs. time-to-rez equation, which has already been shown to favor rezzing your comrades.

No, it has not been shown in favor of rezzing your comrades. On the contrary.

No rezzing in dungeons to prevent death running content has nothing to do with open world content. Stop strawmaning.

Using a game mechanic is not an exploit. Making boss fights impossible once to many people have died is not fun game design. Stop mixing and matching things that have nothing to do with the issue at hand in futile attempts to somehow make your argument stick.

Again proves that dead players scale events up. We can keep talking in circles. All i see is 1 person wanting the game to work in one way completely ignoring how ingame rules and mechanics work. Will ressurecting dead players be viable? Sure if anet change how the system works. Is it viable now? NO!!!!

Kinda regret crafting a GS.

Cyninja.2954

So, i crafted the Foefire’s Essence and i’m using now for 4 days i think.

But i’m starting to regret it.

I wanted because of the look, because i wanted my character to use something expensive and hard to get and because i wanted people to look and comment and say: “hey, nice GS!” "wow, that is an amazing GS, can i see it? "

But no, people just don’t give a kitten , but if i was wearing a Sunrise ( i wouldn’t go for Twilight because it doesn’t fit for my guardian [personal thing] ), things would be different.

I think it’s because the ascalonian GS and Cobalt are kinda similar you know, one is blue with a ghost fog/flame and the other one has a very well done (imo) blue flame effect and then people kinda don’t see anything amazing or nice about the Foefire.

Now i feel like i just wasted time and i should have put the GS to sell for 470g.

argh, i hate myself.

:(

Err, i don’t understand why the aggressivity.

This is a MMO after all, it is always nice to gain a compliment once in a while and i didn’t craft the GS only thinking about showing off or something like that, jesus.

Your original post suggested otherwise. Here is the good news, your greatsword is probably a lot rarer than all those Sunrise or Twilights.

Here is the bad news, you are about 2.5 years to late for people to give a sh*** about your one super expensive item.

Try to make an entire well rounded look taking into account every visible item, or better yet, don’t define your own happiness via what others think or comment on, you’ll only get disapointed.

Again, people need to stop viewing LS vs HoT though their own limited eyes ala “I want A instead of B cause I have an imediate benefit from it”.

MMOs live and die through 2 things:
- the ability to attract new players
- the ability to retain players be it permanent or periodically

GW2 entire business model is dependant on people buying gems. More players = more gems sold = more money for anet = the ability for more content. Period.

The Living Story model was an interesting Idea, but I think it failed in the department of attracting many new players, especially causal ones. It probably helped keep people longer around, but that is no benefit without a subscription fee.

Perfect example:

Both for selfish reasons, the LW was free and you only had to spend money on the gem store if something cosmetic caught your eye, and also practical reasons, it gave me something to do for 3-4 days every 2-4 weeks that kept things fresh.

Yes, that’s great for your wallet, and terrible for anet and the longevity of the game. Anet is in it to make money, or at least break even. Won’t work with people not spending money on the game.

I’m not counting the new Borderland or Stronghold as HoT content because everyone who just has the core game will be able to play them too. And potentially they could launch before HoT, considering they are completely unrelated. Same goes with the defiant changes, break bars, condi caps, and other condi changes, and new trait system as nothing about them are HoT specific.

Developing content costs money. Doesn’t matter if anet decides to provide said content for free or not. You can’t arbitrarily decide to omit content only because they don’t expansion gate it from you.

Going to repeat what I said earlier. Expansions create attention and encourage people to try the game after missing the vanilla launch. That is the main benefit of the expansion model (and the ability to charge money for something which otherwise might have been free with LS. Which in turn means more money can be spent on the game. Always remember to view things from the developer point of view too, not only consumer).

You forgot the supply and demand, there are precursors with low price not because they are easier to get compare to dusk, because they have low supply.
while dusk is expansive because it has a high demand

Yes and no. Very few people, if at all, craft the cheap precursors.

So you are comparing price and supply/demand of crafted+droped versus only droped precursors.

In this case the expensive ones are closer to how expensive it would be to mystic forge them if we assume:

- prices of base items increase based on desired precursor (TRUE, staff, dagger, sword and greatsword are 2-2.5 times the price of other weapon rares. same goes for exotic)
- price of rares items has a low cap that is not based on precursor crafting (TRUE, ectos define bare minimum price of rares. otherwise we might see harpoon, trident rares drop even more in price)

Conclusion:
- price of undesired precursor weapon types is defined by supply of mostly droped precursors since people are not actively farming them (to expensive due to minimum price of rares being to high)
- price of desired precursor weapon types is defined by supply mostly from the mystic forge since people are actively trying to build them (price on rares of these weapon types is way higher than ecto minimum.

So yes, supply and demand is a factor, but the low price on cheap precursors is mainly due to market failure (set minmum price through ectos) and has less to do with supply and demand.

None of your suggestions would in any way change how the game got played. There is nothing besides throwing more unmitigatable damage at people than they can evade that would make tank stats importent.

And even with that change all that would happen is:
-> required group setup. any class not useful will get ommited (already happening to a big extent in high level fractals)
-> tank stats would only be needed after all the evasion/immunity skills have been used. failing with only 1 evasion skill means death. I’m sure a lot of eltist would love that. We get constant yells for harder content. Casuals, yeah they are going to stay VERY far away from this

Jumping puzzles are great, for every one who likes jumping. See how many people come crying here when they are not optional any more. Hint: it will be a lot.

Stealth already gets used to bypass a lot of content. Having stealth in boss fights or dungeon mechanics would mean at least 1 slot in the group has to go to mesmer ot thief. Very resrictiv game design. Not supported.

Was already mentioned. The play how you want was refering to allowing people to play any content they want and still progress their character (unlike having to run dungeon xyz for item abc). Has nothing to do with stats on gear.

Many people wanted all content at once. That means you have to wait until everything is ready. It also means that there will not be content released before.

LW seasons could have prevented this longer gaps. Seasons can create the same buzz and a even greater promotion. You imagine the announcement on PAX south and replace “expansion HoT” with “LW season HoT”.

I disagree, small content does not create buzz. Having DLC like content released certainly does not, or do you read the big news left and right about some new DLC hitting game xyz on a regular basis?

Game expos happen 1nce a year and even if there are multiple, you are in direct competition with every other game there. Showing off your 2 week content will not even get a smile out of most people there.

An LW season HoT would also deliver new maps, a new class, Mastery system, elite specialisations, Stronghold, the new borderlands etc. and they could have announced this on Pax south. In addition the first episodes could already run/have been released.

Changes on such a big scale are very hard to manage to be brought out in seperate segments. Just look at how good a job anet does with their weekly tuesday patches. Having more of such goodness is not in the best interest of the game.

Remember my mentioning Cybele? That is evidence right there of gender identity going WELL before the middle ages!

And it was received a mixed reception back then too where as having a catamite (I think this is the term. basically a toyboy) was widely accepted especially for artists during the renaissance. Not to mention orgies in old Rome.

All I’m saying is, from my point of view and experience, in a wide part of society same sex relations are more accepted than transgender at the moment. This has to be taken into account.

Interesting that someone should bring up that it does not follow that same sex relationships does not mean gender identity gets coverage as well. At least in the US the ‘pioneers’ for what became the gay pride movement were trans people. I would not be shocked if it was the same in other societies as well.

Except that same sex relationships date back to before the middle ages and the US did not even exist back then. :/

EDIT:
Or to be more precise, records of same sex relationships. Actual same sex relations probably date back to almost when we as a species started having sex, or like 5 minutes after.

I agree. I’m also seeing the same double standards.

People are fine with having Taimi, with her struggle in people treating her differently because of her disability, but then the very same people say games shouldn’t ‘force’ or have LGBT characters in the game (who are also a minority and still treated like 2nd class citizens in many countries – some even imprisoned and killed for being who they are – Uganda, Pakistan, Nigeria, as a few examples) because heaven forbid, people may just feel like they’re actually INCLUDED and have a voice, where they may not have one in real life.

And if people think characters with different sexual orientations or gender identities are being ‘shoved down your throat’, please don’t flatter yourself. One could argue I have heterosexuality shoved down my throat everyday. You don’t see me picketing.

We’re all different. Accept this, and get over it.

You have my support for LGBT characters.

And if we were 20-50 years in the future I would completely agree. But we are not, and society as a whole is changing. This means that people need to get used to new concepts and be given enough time to adapt and change.

Just screeming “You have to accept me!” does not make it so. Also don’t mix same sex relationsships with gender confusion. Those are 2 very different things and one of both is futher down the road than the other. Will we as a society come to accept both fully? Hopefully. But denying people their comfort and own pace to adapt is just as ignorant as people refusing to adapt.

One could argue I have heterosexuality shoved down my throat everyday. You don’t see me picketing.

Have to go with expansion over constant living story content. Here is why:

Expansions create buzz. That is a major promoter for this approach. Just look at WoW and how for every expansion (last time myself included) lots of former WoW players flock back to check out the new stuff. Granted most lose interest after 2-4 weeks and leave again (see WoW rentention numbers post WoD). This is actually a good thing for GW2 since the game is designed in a way that having people periodically come back and enjoy the game for a while is a good thing.

Living story does keep people interested longer, but only so much. I remember finishing most living story stuff 1-1.5 weeks after a new LS event was released and then being bored back with same-old same-old. Also new living story content is not big enough to attract new players in big amounts.

GW1 did it, and it worked. Hopefully GW2 will succeed in the same way. An expansion every 1-2 years will keep players coming back to check out the game and attract new players.

Not sure how this translates to content. I’m under the impression multiple LS patches create about the same amount of content as an expanion, though that might be untrue.

Not sure where I stand on this. Honestly I have no problem with same gender couples and have multiple friends who live that livestyle or people who feel trapped in the wrong body, though I still get slightly confused here. Good friends in fact.

I know there is more and more news about people changing gender and/or feeling unhappy about they gender they are born with. Don’t think this becomes more, just that people are more open and ready to accept this and act on their emotions/desires. This is a good thing!

What I DON’T like is having this rubed in my face every step of the way. There are minors playing this game who are in their formative years and already confused enough with hitting puberty and post puberty years. I understand the need to create awareness but am not so sure about videos games being the first place to start doing so. I’m also not a big fan of violance on tv and video games (though that boat has sailed) and I certainly enjoy my share of Witcher 3 blood and gore.

Would I be offended if anet added transgender characters? No.

Would I question their decision to do so in GW2? Sure.

A good example is Bioware and their latest games. They’ve gone so over the top trying to incorporate alternative crowds that the novelty has worn off and people have moved to an “another gay couple, hooray (sarcasm warning!)” mood. It’s counter productiv.

Deleting a maxed Chef for another craft?

Both approaches have merit.

Splitting up crafting skills among different characters:
PROS:
+ no need to pay 40-50 silver to switch to a max rank craft
+ easy access to every crafting skill

CONS:
- you have to keep track on who has what crafting skill (minor anoyance)
- you need to be carfeul who learns what scematic (major anoyance)
- you need to relog multiple times when forging things like legendarys etc
- no real benefit of having 1-2 bonus crafting skills per character active

Keeping crafting skills on 1 character:
PROS:
+ you can learn every scematic and recepie with only your main crafter
+ access to every crafting skill at all time (after switching) means no reason to relog when crafting legendarys etc.
+ with +1-2 extra crafts active you can have access

CONS:
- 40-50 silver for relearning a maxed crafting skill

I personally prefer option 2 since, unless you craft from every single profession every day, you can generally pick the most needed crafts. Gets a lot more viable once you get the +2 crafting skill for your account. But as said, both approaches are viable. The biggest drawback of splitting stuff up is recepies and having to be very careful who learns what.

300 gold for Mystic Forge Precursor Gambling?

Cyninja.2954

As was pointed out, mf precursor crafting research shows that the dry spell can last a couple of thousand gold (I think it was up to 4-5k with super bad luck streaks).

You are no where near the amount fo gold required to “guarantee” a precursor and will most likely end up with nothing.

You should consider things besides the precursor when deciding to craft:

- Do you like to gamble?
If yes, do it. If no, don’t. Seems obvious, but many people approach the mystic forge as some type of crafting mechanic. It’s not!

- How much gold would you need to keep playing?
There are many people who spend ALL their saved gold on the mf only to end up with less than 10g in their wallet and totally discouraged to keep playing. Make sure you take aside a certain amount of gold and say good bye to the rest.

- Precursor pricing on the TP has it’s reasons!
Precursors have their price on the TP due to a reason. The reason being that at current prices that’s how much it costs on average to craft one (modified by a profit % and slight fluctuation).

- Is the precursor the last thing you need for getting your legendary?
Depending on if yes or no, not getting the precursor might set you back a lot. Get everything else done first, then start gambling. Who knows, maybe HoT has hit by then.

In the grand sheme of things, 300g is very little gold for mystic forge gambling, always remember that.

With a 51 days old account I was no where near the point of leaving the game because I couldn’t get 1 dye. As far as I remember I barely had my first 80 done and I was no where near 240 gold (granted we’ve seen some inflation, but not to THAT extent).

You can keep blaming other players for using a supply shortage to their advantage (which in essence is due to anet), or you can do something about it.

Simplest solution was provided by Enko, get a dye very similar to the one you crave for 1/300th of the cost.

Then again, maybe you just wanted to vent about rich preying on the poor.

Fractal weapon Reward Chest PVP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cyninja.2954

The funny thing, most people seem to not realize, once access to to fractal weapons gets simplified, you’ll value that fractal sword a lot less and maybe not even use it since now everyone has it (basically everyone).

I thought about the idea of pristine and fractal relics and while it would remove some of the rng, the price would have to be real steep to not devalue the skins to much.

My ideal or prefered solution atm would be:
- make it so duplicate skins can be exchanged for a new skin (at least 4 for 1 in the mystic forge)
- up fractal level to 60 (would mean 85 ar needed with the current progression. more than achievable) so the fractal weapon boxes (51+ already ingame) start droping
- implement more useful stuff to buy with pristine and normal fractal relics (still waiting on those ascended mats for fractal relics)

As it stands some people have run fractals more than 2-3 thousand times (single fractals, 1 thousand plus total runs) and are still waiting on that last skin. Implementing a pvp track with guaranteed reward would be a huge slap accross the face.

well can you solo the boss? else you’ll probably end up soloing the boss in fotm50 often if it’s fixed.

personally i dont like that pug runs expect glitch abuse. same goes for with mossman. its not that i can or cant solo it, its that people need to stop using glitch abuse as a crutch for their inability to stay alive during cannons.

you can literally group up and push auto run with swiftness on and never get hit by cannons even though every single shot is coming directly at you. there is more than enough time for each person to sidestep every red circle if you dont wanna group up (as is the norm).

if your group is abusing it during a dps phase (and not just recovering from a cannon phase), your group is seriously bad and someone needs to teach your players a little more about what (not) to do.

I do agree with you exploits aren’t great – but it’s not that people are using it as a crutch for not being able to play.
People -myself included- no longer care about the encounters at all. I don’t FOTM 50 for any other reason than that chest at the end of the bonus round.
People glitch because they want to tab out while fighting mossman. They use the Mai Trin res method because they simply don’t care about the content anymore.

It’s not even about the challenge or fun. All of this is gone – it’s all about trying to grind the endless grind for your skins or tonic.

I can relate to this. Though I still enjoy fractals (and I’m not to * about group comp as long as a guardian is present, which I provide if need be) it’s more or less lost its luster.

I pug about 90% of my runs (40 and 50) and the variance on player skill is wide. Lower level fractals the skill level drops dramatically. I fear fractal level 10-30 runs more than 40 or 50 (I often pug the low ones too).

Let’s hope for a fractal revamp with HoT though my expectations are slim. Don’t think this is on the agenda atm.
