You can switch class in match so……

when you try to switch class during the match, a message pops up saying, “doing this will put you on a 16 minute time out” or something like that. Maybe you used to be able to change classes mid match, but you can’t anymore. I did try.

You only get credit for the win with the class you actually played on.

I’ll explain you what he means what could possibly happen:
Say, I’m bronze tier on my thief. I queue up as a thief and get into a match against other bronzes. Before the match starts, I swap to mesmer, where I’m in platinum tier with.

I gain credit on my platinum mesmer for beating bronze players. #ezwin

ohh, then easy fix. character or class lock on queue

It has been discussed before. The community supposedly voted against complete class lock so it won’t happen.

There are certain npcs in game you can stomp but it is mostly for pvp/wvw. In some cases it does make sense to stomp, especialy if you can’t outdps the rez (see druids + pet).

No , it will be the worst scenario .
There will be a huge amount of influx of casual that will not drop to their rightous place (bronze) , and the Leaderboards will stop beeing Prestigious .
They should stop trying reinventing the wheel and use other existing – working systems from other succeful games .
They should just increase the games needed per week (more than 15) so the legimetly players that have the same MMR as you , dont stay afk and be more active .
Or buff specs that allow you to carry your team

You cannot carry players that are 2 divisions below your enemies. Not happening. The suggested changes will at least cause less of such imbalanced matches and not punish higher rated players as much just because they are forced into carrying low ranks. Increase in games won’t do junk, people will still farm bronzies for easy points at 5am, matches will be still wonky. If anything, your suggestions will lead to players quitting pvp all together. Would one really want to play 300 matches with gold teammates vs top 10 players? I hardly doubt it. Even if by some miracle people do decide to play more and population despite lack of carrots does increase, those wonky matches will still happen because the system doesn’t have division limitation.

Your rank depends on your ability to solo entire enemy team and it is just wrong on so many levels.

I also noticed weird lag spikes during matches yesterday (so i didn’t queue anymore), similar to delays you get when 3 zergs meet in wvw. According tracert/pingplotter it was on NCSOFT side (spikes were on last hop).

Because people cried that they have long queue times so now MM just throws whatever into match and calls it a day. From what i have seen, it looks for 5 ppl in similar rating, once it formed a team it forms enemy team. If it can’t find 5 players in the same range for enemy team, it widens the range. Given how population continues to diminish due to a lot of issues, it becomes even more glaring and situations like following are a norm now:
team A: 1800, 1850, 1800, 1750, 1780
team B: 1850, 1700, 1400, 1455, 1555
Take a wild guess which team will win in such scenario and how many rank points will player 1850 from team B lose/gain?
Team B will obviously lose. The 1850 player will lose huge amount of rank points because the system compares only his MMR and avg enemy team so according to that calculation the match was fair and even and player 1850 shouldn’t have lost. This is huge slap in the face because that 1850 player certainly was trying his best to carry that low rank burden and gets rewarded with rank loss worth of 3 wins. Effectively you play in negative unless you duoq with top players and/or exploit/farm bronzies at 5 am. No wonder people barely pvp and quit this game.

It is 3rd season in a row where i preach for reducing MMR range for MM at costs of queue time and award/deduce ranks based on team avg mmr vs enemy team avg mmr (so you don’t get punished for having gold teammates vs legend players) and not just player mmr vs avg mmr of the enemy team. But they would rather ignore these issues, remove carrots from pvp and let the community bleed out.

P.S. those examples are not exaggeration, i (as plat) had gold teammates while facing team consisting of top 10 players. What the point of matchmaking? Might as well play lottery.

matchmaking is a joke this season. Not sure what changes Anet made, but seriously laughable. I was in gold and got teammates who were obviously in bronze, didn’t know rotations, or their class.

they didn’t change anything, less and less people play BECAUSE Anet didn’t address the glaring issues for 3 seasons now so MM has less choice of who to throw into match

And why should anyone play ranked then? For silly badge that they can’t even show because it is disabled in other game mode and that goes away after a while.

Ranked supposed to be for better competition -> better rewards. Look at fractals, it is same there. Higher fractal levels give better rewards. You are not going to get legendary armor by just doing escort every week.

As far as placement goes, if you were plat last season, you should have no issues climbing back again. Yes, matchmaking is the worst atm and it is like playing lottery but gold/silver are filled with players that you can literary 1v3, even on thief (coming from personal experience).

I have eles trying to solo beast while enemy thief is nearby and my team 4v1 some guy on roads while i beg them to look at map and help defend points. I also get called trash and what not because my team was incapable of winning 4v3 fight while 2 enemies were chasing me around 2 other points. I really should stop playing on weekends, it is the worst -_-’

You can counter invul stomps by stealthing downed ally. People hate on my refuge (and reported me multiple times for it) but it actually saved a lot of teammates from such stomps.

Stab can be stripped, corrupted, stolen and simply removed by CC spam. I think there is plenty of counters to it.

I will be preaching this over and over and over again until it finally sinks it (hopefully).
- rank gain/loss should NOT be based on player mmr vs avg enemy mmr. It should be based on avg player team vs avg enemy team otherwise you get punished for being put on team of low ranks vs team of higher ranks FOR NO GOOD REASON and it happens a lot due to next point.
- MM should not put players out of completely different divisions in the same match for the sake for fast queue. Silver player will never in their life win vs team of legends. But such matches occurs constantly where low ranks are forced to face higher ranks giving higher ranks easy points and creating really bad experience for lower ranks and the unlucky high ranks that end up with them on the same team. It also introduces window of exploiting as well as you can just queue later at night and farm bronzies for easy points.
- matchmaking should really consider class stacking (or rather prevent it) as well as stacking of double duoqs vs full team of solos. I have seen same double duoq of top 20 players every match being on same team farming low ranks. What part of it is working matchmaking?
- remove crafting tokens for ascended gear, make it like before except you get ascended shards only for wins and not losses so it would prevent players for afking.
- rank loss should also consider close games. If score is 499-500, should you be really losing 3 matches worth of points?
- STARTS BANNING PEOPLE FOR AFKING/GRIEFING. By not doing it, you just support bullying in game.

Because of things like this people barely play anymore or quit pvp all together.

Idk whether you belong to gold/plat OP as it is arguable (i had no issue to farm my way through gold last season when i for some reason landed in low gold after placement and i played solo), there is definitely one valid complain which is 4v5. They happen way too frequently and affect rating too much, imo. But it is like talking to a wall. Idk why Anet is so adamant about not punishing griefers in game.

s5 i ended gold near plat. most fights were versus plat ppl cause i teamup with plat. they were easy wins.
i dont play much and farm. so i consider myself gold

i dont care tiers placements. i care about having fun while fighting
so 4v5, 2 ppl caping free points like in hotjoin, ppl AA

if i lose a game when i know i did bad rotations or decisions i will still enjoy it.

i can show you 2 videos i made of ranger who AA on mid not dodging once and thief 1v2 kill it in 2 sec. than i do 1v2 and his animal come to help me (omg AI is more smarter) he took 180 and walk away from far to close to do 2 man cap point….

Trust me clownfiesta can be observed in literary every tier. It doesn’t get any better regardless at what rating you play. The only difference is that you can solo half of enemy team at low ratings but that is about it.

The OP’s comments still stands despite what ‘countermeasures’ there are for this. Vault, DB and the subsequent dodge attacks are extremely low skill high reward mechanics that shouldn’t really exist. They should be toned down with a bit of extra aftercast.

I’m obviously talking about the two variants of a spammable skill that has evade, and the two daredevil evades that have attacks.

It wasn’t that obvious. Besides neither of those 2 builds are really meta and got nerfed multiple times since HoT launch. Surely, they are braindead (d/d condi at least) but i don’t see them really being a threat. It is easy to yell “omg this is OP, nerf plox” but how would you change (assuming ofc that other classes see nerfs as well)?

I for my part wish they really stopped pushing condi builds on thieves and reworked db into something that could be more useful for d/d power builds since the rest of the spells are power basically.

I actually have won all matches with my necro this season. Abuse terrain, don’t try to solo classes you can’t solo, stick to the team, simple really. Also you don’t have instant cast on aoe? How come?

You can win all matches if you;

  1. concentrate on capping things that you don’t own, and,
  2. tolerate dying every time you get in a fight

Standing in circles for the win.

Actually as necro you probably should go in circle only in shroud, if anything, otherwise you should be kiting like JP baus. And no, you won’t die every fight unless your team is complete garbage.

1. you shouldn’t be dueling thief unless you really have to. Stick to the team.
2. Almost every point in pvp has some kind of stones/pillars etc. that you can abuse so thief can’t steal off you (e.g. at mine in foefire there is pile of coal + cart on point that you can stand on and thief won’t be able to use steal on you).
3. Stow weapon is your best friend. Bait headshots/steal and you can free cast all day.
4. thieves can’t deal with condis so well. It is probably one of the main reasons why core necro work better vs them, since core shroud is actually better at condi application and shroud 4,5 don’t really require target and apply reveal on top of it so thief stealth is useless.
5. i use generic condi scepter/wh, wh5 is great to counter blind spam.
6. as said, don’t chase them. Make them come to you and punish them for it.

If you got time, try to play thief, it will give you better insight of how to beat them.

They start with higher mmr and face higher rated players hence why they place higher. Remember when in previous seasons top players and new players were put in same divisions and last were getting farmed for first 2 weeks or so? It does not happen as much anymore due to current system (unless people resort to farming low ranks at 5 am for easy points like 2 last seasons but it is different issue).

My point is, why do you assume that Anet working on balance has the goal of making all classes ‘equal’ for play? There is lots of evidence to suggest that’s not the case, not just in GW2 but lots of other MMO’s as well.

I think that’s a terrible assumption to have. Why does anyone even have the impression that balance means making classes equally desireable for meta, especially when meta is a player-implemented idea and no one that Anet acknowledges as any kind of measure of class performance? That makes no sense, in ANY game.

Meta is dictated by devs actually. Players have no way of changing spells/traits etc. And there is always best/optimal build based on what is available.

I used to play 300+ games per season…. 120 is nothing really. The problem is just match quality and wonky rank gain/losses. Lack of rewards is not helping either. Hence why 120 seems like a lot. Game is not fun.

If someone on your team is disconnected for 2 minutes or more, you will not incur a MMR penalty should you lose. Unless you queued as a duo with the person who disconnected, then you do lose MMR.

still counts as loss for placement…. which results in easily 10 wins needed later to make up for gap those losses create

It is not a bug, it is DH feature. Apparently they are so weak that Anet decided DHs should be able exploit this game and push/pull ppl into terrain.

So what’s the excuse when it happens from Ranger LB 4, Warrior Rifle 5, and Mesmer GS 5? We could use that excuse (I suppose) for Mes and War. But Ranger?

It all comes down to which commander and how pugs is the squad ypu have joined. There are pug squad that got wiped by smaller zerg, there are clueless commander, running with these squad, i am sure get less pip than solo roam.

I do solo roam and squad run, i found solo roam sometimes gain participation a lot faster than running in squad. Some classes are clearly more superior in roaming than being i zerg. But it is the player who decides how to take part in the mist war. The discrimination is in your mind. A party leader pick his own crewmate, this is happening in dungeon, raid, fractual and every other games.

In dungeon and raids i can create own group and it is not limited by anything. The map has limit, even if i made own squad, the 40 something ppl don’t just drop the current squad and join me. I can’t also invite another 40+ people to join me as they simply won’t be able to enter the map due to cap. There is also not endless amount of EB or borderlands… unlike raid/dungeon instances.

I don’t mind facing duoq, i do mind when one team consists only of duoq +1 solo and other team consists only of solo players… but it is just another issues on the long list that has not been addressed, yet again.

- rank gain/loss is still based on avg mmr of enemy team vs personal – bad design
- MM still doesn’t balance out teams well for the sake of short queues thus making issue stated above worse. A legend should never be facing silver but this is still the case and people have been abusing it for 2 seasons now for easy ranks.
- you can duoq with low rank (skilled player on alt) to get easy matches. There is no limitation unlike in other games where is limit on how low ranked your partner can be if you want team up with them.
- the rank gains are still abysmal the more games you play and completely don’t reflect the actual situation in the match and matchmaking all together
- there is 0, absolutely 0 punishment for griefers, afk’ers, cheaters and exploiters in this game. You can report them all you want, make tickets, they even stream it on twitch – 0 consequences. But hey don’t you dare to joke about role player in DR – suddenly there are consequences. Dem priorities.

The pvp system is still a big lottery and offers little motivation for players to compete on first place (especially considering that exposing yourself to such wonky system is hardly fun). I wouldn’t be surprised if people did their 100 something matches this season again and avoided ranked otherwise.

The list of desirables are there for a good reason and they’re like the meat of the group. You can’t ask commanders to make do with salad when they can have more meat.

The ball is in Anets court, not the commander’s.

That is why i am asking Anet to introduce same treatment to other game modes and not the commanders since the last rather resort to verbal abuse if you dare to join their squad.

I would like to point one thing out: current system also heavily favors heavy armor classes and eles/necros because those can stay in zerg and gain ranks faster where medium armor and the rest get kicked from squad/get forced into roaming so overall their rank gains are lower. Which results in actual class discrimination.

This is false. You do not need to be zerging to get rank gain. An efficient roaming pattern will get very solid WXP gains; the only consistently better way to get WXP is karmatraining on an empty map. If you’re karmatraining anyway, commander don’t care what class you bring. A good roamer can exploit objective tagging to gain WXP from the targets or they can fill a forward scouting role for the commander and the commander will give them scout credit for WXP gains.

If you’re an effective roaming scout, you will get the best WXP rate in the game with the commander feeding you Scout WXP while you also gain your own WXP at a strong rate. I’d have to check, but I think you also get the WXP of the other roaming scouts as well.

The difference by just following the commander and be in a squad is pretty big. You don’t get buffs/heals. When you die you don’t get rezzed. You are still helping, because you are eating the damage and with your sacrifice you help the zerg to survive longer and eventually be victorious. But you can’t get loot and you need to run every few mins to rejoin the zerg.
In the end only the most stubborn keep running with the jerks that hate you!

^^basically this. There is also issue with tagging and getting credit for the tag. If you follow the zerg, you tend get less credit for the kills if any at all hence why in pve it is better to join farming group instead of just following them.

Sure, you can play other classes. But once again, it does not remove issue of certain classes being basically excluded from rewards in wvw or limited amount of rewards they can get compared to “meta” classes. Since it was deemed a fair system, it would make sense to introduce it in other game modes. You want to get more pips/rewards in pvp? Don’t play ele/guards. Same logic here.

With recent changes to wvw, it became clear that classes like guards/war/necro/eles/revs (basically those must have in squad) get advantage over other classes in wvw because they are allowed into squad and allowed to zerg in wvw which allows them to gain ranks/pips faster in wvw. Meanwhile rest of the classes get kicked/forced into roaming due to their class design which results in less rank/pip gains in wvw.
Since wvw community and devs deemed it as fair and logical system i propose that zerg classes (guards, eles and co.) gain less shards/rewards/pips in other game modes (pvp/pve) compared to other classes (engis/druids etc.) to make up for the reward difference.

They should have just added some leather gathering nodes around the maps instead of adding content that nobody going to do due to badly designed mechanics and terrible drop rates. Even if farm was ok, it by far didn’t solve any issue with leather being stupidly overpriced. Hardened leather section = 30 silver. I have to win a ranked match (that is 15 min at least) just to make enough gold for one section. Honestly, wth were they thinking.

commanders kicking Rangers and Thief

So many misinformed people in wvw by the looks of it. Obviously never saw proper played staff/bound thief in zerg. Those thieves do better job at killing enemy zerg and living longer than your average guard spamming staff1 which is squad usually filled with.

I have also experienced same thing as Op. Even if squad wasn’t full and comm was advertising for people to join the squad, any thief was constantly kicked and verbally harassed for actually joining (i was told to have cancer for example for simply playing the class, how lovely). WvW became more toxic than raids and pvp together.

For my part, i was told that thief is not worth it and doesn’t deserve it to be part of the squad. However when those oh so glorious squad members went down and cried for rez, i had my last laugh and told them “you are not worth the rez” (although i could have easily rezzed them).

I think the reason why they don’t want 2v2 become a thing (e.g. ranked) is because it would show the glaring issues with class balance. We have classes that were forced into one specific role in 5v5 environment for years now, those roles do not exist in 2v2. 2v2 will be probably dominated by bruiser classes and those that don’t fall in such category will demand buffs. Given how much attention pvp gets on first place, i doubt they will invest more into it to juggle between 2v2 and 5v5.

I think it could also lead to people just creating throw-away accounts, invite them to the fractal/raid, let them die and do their stuff. It’s basically what would happen with an unexperienced player anyway, just that you don’t have to wait for one.

Depends on the value of the reward of course.

If i am not mistaken, you need HoT to do raids. Would you be willing to pay 50+ euro for few items off boss?

Necro can hold points and kill quite a few classes 1v1. Mesmer, warrior, guard are all ones you should be able to kill.

I don’t think necro can kill mes given same skill level. Mes has plenty of ways to lock down necro and deny them shroud as well .
Guards and war maybe, depending on their builds. Necro does counter engi, ele and revs to extend. Once again depending on build they play.

necro needs massive rework that wont happen and can happen only with future elite specs…..they need to get rid off DS and exchange DS for blocks/invus and movement…..OR to give necro a support role like dark support class like nevewinter scourge warlock who can heal

1. i highly doubt they will remake necro for various reasons (hello pve and people who actually love necro as it is, look at all outrage when they just change some cosmetics)
2. what you describe is basically a brusier like a warrior or scrapper, assuming they did such change, i think necro would be pushed into single target only like this classes as well. Healer necro would be interesting :O

I haven’t done t3s in ages but based on my experience in t4s i would say people usually fail due to attacking the boss when he is blocking. Just don’t do it and make sure your teammates don’t do it either or kick them if they continue to do so.
You don’t need high dps to kill it really, some Ccs for adds could be nice tho.

I think the issue with Coliseum remains the buffs (the defensive is so bad compared to attack one for obvious reasons) and lack of LoS at mid point (by the time you get to nearest pillar the dh already executed his whole golem rotation on you).

I would take capricorn over skyhammer any day because at least it has less NO VALID PATH bugs.
