So with the change to deathly chill…

You attack the necro>your feared., chilled and bleeding…

You can use up a cleanse and hope the bleeding gets removed
Or
use up your stun breaker to get control back. But still bleeding.
Or
Don’t waste a cool down. Eat the bleeding and lose a couple k of health., and have no control of your character.

And the necro did NOTHING.

but you know its a ‘L2P issue’.

Who’s losing to this?

I did quit GW2 in december, because Anet didn’t deliver nearly 50% of promised content on the expansion release. I ran out of content after 2 months. I’m wondering how far is anet from releasing Legendary armor?!

Any news on that?

What content are you counting that ANet missed out on 50%? From the wiki, here are the promised features:

  • Heart of Maguuma: added (and updated 19 April). Four new maps, multiple levels, new metas.
  • HoT story: added
  • Mastery system: added new HoT masteries and several core ones.
  • New prof: revenant — added and, erm, relevant.
  • Stronghold for PvP: added.
  • WvW: Desert BL: added (since restored to Alpine BL, by popular demand).
  • WvW: Shield generator and reworked abilities: added.
  • WvW: World ability: added
  • Guild Halls: two added
  • Raids: as announced, adding wings in waves.
  • Fractals: new system, new masteries added as promised.
  • Adventures: added
  • Map bonus rewards: added
  • Ascended gear: now salvageable
  • Legendary gear:
    • New backpacks: added
    • New armor: not in game yet
    • New legendaries: 4 of 16 promised added; work cancelled (at least for now) on the other 11.
    • Legendary collections for generation 1 precursors: added
  • Commander & squad updates: added.
  • Action camera: added.

I can’t say whether anyone in particular will enjoy the changes. I’m just pointing out that nearly all of the content advertised has been added (the big exception being legendary gear).

LOL I’m sorry but are you serious?

Most of that “content” is grind with a pretty veneer. The action camera? There was a mod for it like years ago. The changes and tweaks to interfaces and skills is not “content” they’re simply alterations to existing content.

The new maps qualify, as does the Revenant. That’s about it. So in actuality, only about 30% of HoT was actual content, the rest just changes to already existing systems or things like Guild Halls which should have been present at launch for a game called GUILD WARS.

“Should have been present at launch” can be applied to EVERYTHING added to any game after it has launched. It is the lamest and most useless of complaints to level at things.

Wrong. Guild Halls were planned for launch, discussions continued after launch, but Anet couldn’t funnel the resources to make it happen. So they piggy-backed Guild Halls onto HoT and marketed them as a new feature.

This is absolutely 100% untrue. Guild Halls were not planned for launch, not even a little bit.

On Guild Wars 2 Guru, long before there were official forums, someone asked about personal housing and Martin Kerstein answered, saying that housing is definitely not slated for launch. Most likely it would come out when Guild Halls did, possibly with the first expansion.

I’m paraphrasing here, but that’s what was said. And it was talked about for a while after, which is why I remember.

On the other hand, I don’t think you can find a single scrap of evidence that said Anet was even considering adding guild halls at launch.

That’s not credible. Anet had been very careful about not promising an expansion or expansion-based content until they actually announced an expansion. Unless you can prove that those posts existed on Guru, I’m called BS.

Game forums have an interesting life span. You can be incredibly interested in a game, but already know “everything” about it and thus have nothing to discuss on forums. For example I love playing Civ4, but there really isn’t much to talk about at this point, 11 years after it came out.

stop hijacking this productive thread. chronos are insanely OP right now and need to be toned down.

Bring us some ESL team compositions, so we can see how much of those insanely OP mesmers running around.

If not for esl rules to cover anets slow balancing, the comp of every single team would be

2 mes
2 rev
1 ele healbot

Maybe some rare druids, but its funny its soooo bad that its same as season 1. Bleh

This is very unlikely. Mesmers weren’t even in the meta when class stacking was allowed. Also, the last tournament showed that teams without mesmers are just as competitive (and maybe) more than teams with mesmers. Bringing 2 would be suicide. ESL players simply don’t play like first time pvpers.

This needs to stop,

Elite specs are OP but they are working on a expansion and they said they were bringing more spec to mess with.

Its over, join the elite specs and try to make a build with the elite spec line and 2 core ones.

Every meta has had its OP builds and this is no different, GW2 added the 3 point line and guess what they are not taking it back so adapt.

This. Elite specs are the future. Once there are more, there will be more build diversity. And, remember, you will only be able to use one. That’s where the decisions will be. Buffing core specs is just pointless power creep.

You don’t need a special build to beat mesmers. Any class can beat them and beat them easily. They have clear tells (yes, even moa) everything they do costs them something. The need to sacrifice offense for defense and vice versa. Mesmer’s bursts are harder to setup than any other class. They have almost no passive defense, unlike your class. Yes, if you’re not paying attention, you will lose. If you don’t bring condition removal, which many don’t, you will have a hard time. If you button mash, which so many do, you will likely lose and come on the forums to complain.

Mesmer....if they won't change it....

in PvP

Posted by: DaShi.1368

DaShi.1368

A) The problem with the current mesmer (chrono) is not the damage, its the sustainability.
Namely Mental defense, Deja Vu, Blurring frenzy, Distortion, Restorative illusion

Mesmers sacrifice their damage for sustainability. This is a fair trade, and needed with all the spam that they other classes get. Mesmer is actually one of the least spammy classes

B) When talking about shatters you should remember that the meta mesmers use signet of illusions and also blow all their shatters during continuum split.
There is also alacrity decreasing both shatter and illusion cd’s by quite some time.
Shatters should be strong skills used tactically to change a fight at the cost of sacrificing precious illusions. Not spammed tools to apply as much condi as possible.

Because shatter is where 90% of mesmer damage comes from. When shatters are all on cool-down a mesmer is doing nothing but trying to survive. Also, signet of illusions have a painfully long cast time. So try interrupting it or pressuring hard when they cast it.

C) The sheer uptime and access of/to illusions is incredible thanks to Persistence of memory, Illusionary reversion and Chronophantasm.
Now dont get me wrong, mesmers should be able to maintain many illusion…but not by shattering them.
You dont shatter you illusions: you have 3 illusions up most of the time.
You shatter your illusions: You dont have many illusions up most of the time.
Doesnt sound so hard, does it? Unfortunately anet seems to be thinking different.

Again, they need to shatter to make those illusions do anything. Mesmers need to have illusions up or they are extremely weak and vulnerable. And if they exhausted their shatters, their illusions are fairly useless. What you are complaining about is that mesmers can actually attack and defense. It’s like complaining that warriors can use weapon skills.

D) As powerful as mesmers are, it gets much worse considering their mobility. If you have a class that you can either not beat at all or at least is tanky enought to make a kill take a lot of time is usually supposed to be slow, so you can outrun and outrotate them.
Right now mesmers are like a slightly slower thief with much higher sustain and more sustained, harder to avoid damage. Just like thieves (edit by Dashi: and eles, and rangers, and revs, and necros, and engineers, and warriors) a smart mesmer is also able to disengage from most fights, making a kill almost impossible.

Mesmers aren’t tanky. If you are playing a dps class, one hit can hurt them a lot. Mesmer is one of the few classes that uses mostly active defense. They have to do something to block and evade. They have to do something to shed conditions. Mesmers can’t hold a point against two players. Mesmers can barely hold a point against one (and will lose the point in a stalemate because so much of their defense relying on moving and skills that prevent point capture).

Mesmers are not easy kills, but they are not as challenging as you make them out to be. Your statements sound like your want them to be easy kills though.

so i want to offer a reasonable moa nerf

in PvP

DaShi.1368

Normal mesmer is dead along with most of the other non-elite classes. People need to get over this and move on. The next expansion will only further solidify this. Anet clearly sees the elite specs and something that should be taken. It’s like running a build without an elite skill in GW1. You can do it, and in some isolated situations it might be a good choice, but generally it is not recommended and is inferior.

P.s. what you said is not necessarily true at all: nos is thinking of running normal necro over reaper due to the massive nerfs afaik. It’s not impossible.

nos will use reaper. There’s still no reason not to. Reaper shroud is too good to pass up in any necro build. Elites are meant to be a key part of builds. The problem now is that there is just one elite per class. Once we have more, there will be the greater build diversity that people want.

a reasonable moa nerf would be:

moa cooldown reduced to 120s

moa duration reduced to 6s

moa gives you 5 stacks of stability for 3s

screech (skill 4) cleanses 5 conditions, weakness removed, casting time from 1.25 to 0.75s.

flee (skill 5) range reduced by a small amount.

I like all of these except for the 5 stacks of stability and the screech condition cleanse. I do like the condition cleanse for screech, but 5 is too much. 1-3 is reasonable. The stability is too much and too passive, but maybe making skill 3 a stun break instead would work. Moa should punish players who panic in it, but allow those who keep cool to have strong chance of surviving.

One solution would be to reduce the effect of Moa to 5 seconds and the cool down to 120 seconds. Mesmers could use it a bit more often, but it no longer takes a player out of the game for such a long time. Chronomancers who only use it with Continuum Split will be nerfed by this, but something has to be done without entirely gutting it.

Additionally, I might increase the damage or some other buff to Gravity Well to make it a more tempting alternative to Moa.

lol, I remember when HoT was announced and they were giving us a little details on what was coming.

A lot of us were asking where is all the content?! Surely this isnt it
And as usual the fanboys all rose up saying Anet wouldnt give us all the details, there was obviously a tonne more in the expansion, and other things would be released throughout the year.

Now that they know there isnt any more stuff, they only thing these fanboys can say now is “either buy it or dont buy it”

I still wouldnt call HoT a half an expansion, call it what it is, DLC! A small update charged at unreasonable prices!

Bam. +1

And yet I never said buy it or don’t buy it. Most DLCs aren’t four zones and a new class and a new PvP type and a new map for WvW and precursor crafting and guild halls. Like it or not all that stuff was added, plus the story, elite speicalizations, and a completely changed Fractal system, plus masteries including gliding.

You can call it a small DLC but it doesn’t make it a small DLC.

This isn’t reasonable by any standard I know of.

At least we all agree that it’s closer to DLC than an expansion.

The poll is not the be all end all of anything. I cited it as a single example. My opinion of casuals who don’t follow the game vs hard core who do is pretty well established on these forums.

Even without the poll, my understanding of the situation doesn’t change. A small percentage of people post outrage and say it’s the end of the world and at the end of the day it amounts to very little because a decent percentage of the playerbase simply don’t follow the game closely.

The poll changes nothing about what I said, whether it’s accurate, inaccurate or anything else.

And still none of this talks to the question of the topic. Is the expansion half done. I say it’s more like 85% done, but you know, it’s fine. People can keep bandying this 50% figure about, but where’s the evidence?

I agree. We’ve gotten off-topic for too long.

The only way what you’re saying makes sense is if you know the percentage of people that normally prepurchase anyway. Do you?

And neither do you. Now, I’m making no claim about the accuracy of the poll. I’m merely stating that it would be disingenuous to cite one part of the poll while calling the part disagreed with fundamentally wrong.

The prepurchase contingent is higher than I thought it would be.

I think so too. Some people may have been trying to counter the results.

Nah, it’s not disingeuous by a long shot.

Simple example. If I say I believe most people hate something and I see a poll that shows a better than expected result, that’s all I’m saying here. I’m not saying the poll is accurate.

I said I don’t believe it’s a good time to poll that and I stand by that assessement. I think the number of people voting would logically be more against it, because people are angry.

That’s ALL I said. I didn’t say the poll itself is a bad poll, I questioned the timing of the poll. And within that context I still saw a higher percentage of people who would preorder than I expected.

There’s nothing disingenuous about that.

Questioning whether the poll can deliver accurate results is saying that the poll is not good. Accuracy is the key component of any polling. Any question to accuracy requires some doubt of the results. Cherry picking those same results to push an agenda is disingenuous. Your example is not saying what you think it is.

The poll overwhelming shows that people are not planning on prepurchasing. If you are going to accept that third who still will, you have to accept the rest. You can’t just cherry pick the results and say that anything different is wrong. Well you can, but that would be dishonest.
