DaShi.1368

I’m not saying people don’t like it, the many threads are.

I will only comment on the fractal. Ask your guild members if they are doing 6 swamps and 2 molten duo or 10 different a day. Also there might be a surge of people doing other levels but it’s only because they are removing 2 achievements.

Actually I don’t have to ask. My guild does whatever the dailies are and a couple of easy ones and they’re happy with that. It doesn’t bother them.

However, very often we have people who need something for collections or people who just need the achievement and all along, we help each other out in my guild. If someone needs to run Mai Trin to dump harpy pheremones on them for the Quip collection we do it.

So it’s not always the swamp…but then, that’s a problem for some people and not everyone. There are people who would rather be doing other things and just want their Fractal daily done too.

It’s not very different from how dungeons used to be. Not everyone was interested in Running TA aetherblade or Arah path 4.

Edit: And it STILL doesn’t mean the expansion is half done.

Now you are getting into specific fractals tied to collections and even by your own words it’s only for collections. I don’t see LFG of people just wanting to do harpy fractals or dredge outside of collections and achievements. As for TA path and Arah 4, they were seen as hard and time consuming content and we have seen challenging content isn’t for everyone. Couple with the dungeon nerf and the fact the weapons in TA are so rare no one does them anymore. This wasn’t the main reason I thought the expansion was half done but everything I listed before.

Doesn’t mean more people don’t like it this way. Before, if you were a hard core fractal runner, you had to have time to do an entire fractal. People complain about not having time to do a meta event in HoT. People don’t have time.

The new fractals favor people with less time, so more people do them. I think that’s fairly straight forward.

If you were a hard core fractal runner before, you weren’t some kind of majority. Casual players who don’t have time, might well prefer today’s fractals even if you don’t. I know for a fact far more people run fractals in my guild now over how many ran them before.

You keep changing the discussion. Now you are talking about time to do fractals. Keep deflecting.

The new system is better because you can choose which fractals to do and how many depending on time but that has created The Swamp of the Mist. That is what people talk about when they say fractals are dead and not dead as in population, dead as in boring grind. Wonder what new discussion you will pull from this.

I know. The goal posts in this thread have been moved so many times they circumscribe the globe. It’s hard to deny that we weren’t given everything that was promised for the price and the price wasn’t what someone would expect to pay, even if we did get everything promised. But it’s done. Those willing to pay did. Hopefully, we’re all a little wiser for the experience.

Good analogy and excellent explanation. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will affect many people’s stand on the issue.

You’re certainly entitled to that opinion. I don’t think most people have a stand. Even after the announcement a poll here showed a third of the players here will preorder the next expansion. Considering we’re more likely to follow the game than more casual players, I think many people probably don’t have a stand at all. Some do, certainly but maybe not as many as you’d think if you were one of those people.

Wait, you attack the poll as incredible, but then cite it as a source here. So only the part that you agree with is right? I agree that many people don’t have a leg to stand on, just not the same people as you believe.

People should be vocal about what they like and don’t like. Anet needs that information to help guide the direction of the game. The problem is that when people post about stuff they don’t like, they get dogpiled here and people pretend they are the only one. Then Anet operates with little to incorrect information and makes a lot of people unhappy.

So keep being vocal. Be respectful, of course, but be vocal.

just an observation.

You must not have visited the thief forum when they had posts about having their characters commit suicide or the ranger forum ever. The mesmer forum is actually one of the better ones as far as qq. Its problem is that it often has mesmers proposing their own nerfs for the class. And of course, more people come here to complain about mesmers than they do for any other class. As a solo player i find this season the worst

in PvP

DaShi.1368

As a solo player, I’ve enjoyed this season a lot more than last. Last season the matches were so random. Win then lose then win then lose.

I play casually (only about 3 a night, sometimes more). I breezed through amber, emerald, and sapphire. Ruby has been much slower going, but I’ve been enjoying it. My wins still tend to be blowouts (other team has less than 350 points at the end), but my losses are usually close. The big thing is that I’m seeing progress. I wasn’t seeing that in season 1.

Sure some losses can be frustrating, but don’t let them get to you. I’ve found a poor attitude is detrimental to win streaks. It’s still something I"m still working on as I’m apparently annoying my teammates when I make rotation calls. :o Though I’m trying to limit those to really bad calls, like going for lord with less than 350 points (usually less than 300) against a team we are not steamrolling.

Anyway, I’ve enjoyed this season so far.

You guys focus on thief too much. I noticed generally if i play other classes, no matter how crappy i played nobody says anything. When i play on thief, even if i did fine, EVEN if enemy team says “great thief” (yes that actually happend quite few times) and we actually win i still get to hear a lot of unreasonable crap from my own team.

The problem with thief is that 9 out of 10 are terrible at it, since it requires a very good map awareness and enemy class management. It’s probably the only class that doesn’t allow a player to be an average performer.

I agree. If you have a thief with no map awareness, it’s completely useless. That last match also had me trying to guide the thief to back cap far, and support mid/home. If not, he wandered lost around the middle of the map.

Team mmr abuse? Im confused

in PvP

Opponents are determined by division/tier. Teammates are determined by MMR. The matchmaking will put people against another team based on who ever has the highest division/tier. So a team with 4 ambers and a diamond will play against other diamond players.

There are probably people who don’t realize this and are trying to abuse it. But most likely it is just friends who started at different times and are playing together.

When you go far, it’s really easy for everyone else to notice when you fail. However, when you succeed, no one really notices. Everyone can cite a time where someone going far cost them the match (or at least seemed to). In fact, I will shortly. But few people can point out when it won them the match. Going far puts a tag on you where you’re either labelled bad or adequate.

My story: On Forest we decided to split 4-1. The opponents do the same. I moa their necro and we stomp him early but it cost us a lot more cool downs than it should have. But we’re fine. It’s now 4v3. But it’s not. The warrior decides to hightail it for far. Yes, the warrior. Now 3v3 and on cool down, we wipe on mid as their home capper arrives and our home capper camps. The warrior does decap far but then proceeds to die to the necro kittenpawned. While we recovered the momentum, we lost the match by about 25 points from that unforced error at the beginning.

To be fair, the warrior’s call would have been right if the situation was a little different: 1. He wasn’t a warrior. They can’t solo like they used to, and not against a necro. 2. Our home capper didn’t camp. As the mesmer, I was considering dropping a portal and quickly decapping far, but the situation didn’t call for it.

Skyhammer Design Discussion

in PvP

Posted by: DaShi.1368

DaShi.1368

Forest is my favorite map. The secondary mechanic doesn’t dominate the gameplay, but it does feel worth the amount of reward they give. While it can help a team that is behind catch up, it only decides a match when the match is close already.

That said, I prefer the secondary mechanic in Skyhammer to be different from any other map. I don’t want to use the same strategy in Skyhammer that I would use in other maps. The importance is that it is fun and fair. Currently, I don’t find the skyhammer fun or fair. I just find it to be an annoyance. I don’t want to get it, but I don’t wan the other team to have it either. Basically, I don’t want it there.

A big problem with Skyhammer is that there is no good time to take it. Or bad time. For example, the beasts in forest don’t give enough points to make them worthwhile in the beginning. Kyhlo trebs are useful for contesting mid, but lose value on close or far and require a cost to use, especially if destroyed. Temple nodes are timed. And Legacy’s Lords are really only good for clinch wins; any other time, killing them can cost you the match.

My suggestion would be to make the skyhammer have a cost to use and not always be a good decision. Perhaps make it require a fuel source (like the fans in Old Tom’s room in the uncategorized fractal). There may be two nodes (a red and a blue) on opposite sides that spawn fuel and you need to get the one closer to the enemies side to use. Fuel will charge the hammer for 30 seconds and the hammer can only be used by the team that charges it (maybe can’t even enter the hammer room without the fuel). The fuel respawns every 2 minutes. If the fuel is dropped or the player holding it is downed, the fuel is destroyed. Buff/nerf hammer effect/damage as needed to compensate for difficulty to activate it.

The problem is that your scenario is the exception. Most players can recognize when the exception applies and see posts like yours and think it’s ok to fight off nodes all the time.

It’s the same with stomping. They’d rather let 3 opponents rally because someone said you should cleave in certain situations. Now all they do is cleave. I’ve seen this happen many times.

Balance soon?

in PvP

Posted by: DaShi.1368

DaShi.1368

I think that balancing shouldn’t be focused so much on individual classes than on team builds. One thing the last tournament hammered home is that there appears to be only one really good team composition and the rest are mediocre compared to it.

Having teams with class stacking is fine. A team with 2 revs, no problem. But when that team is the only optimal team, then there is an issue. There was more variability in earlier tournaments and there was much more variability in GW1 (which still required double monks).

What we need is team balance. Focusing on individual class nerfs and buffs, without considering team balance will not improve the game. When we do have good team balance, we’ll see a variety of viable teams and a greater variety of classes playing in those teams.

I did say significant. If I know a handful of people from a single casual guild that stopped playing do to lack of challenge, I’m positive that the number of people that got bored was significant. There have been a significant number of posts about people being bored with the open world as well.

Now, the thing with the word significant is that it means this:

.
sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy.

Since it’s been brought up many times, it’s worthy of attention. That’s just logical. Other people seem to remember it being brought up. It’s really funny that you don’t.

Off topic, I find it entertaining that other people have started noticing you dogging my posts as well. Several people have contacted me over it.

I respond to posts where people make assertions and often I mimic their behavior, but yes, I believe the word significant was the right word to use. It doesn’t have to me a huge amount, but it does have to mean something worth taking note of.

I’m certainly within my rights to use that word.

But if you just mimic their behavior, that makes you no better than them. And it doesn’t come across as mimicking. It comes across as arrogant hypocrisy. I do realize that that isn’t your intention, but it is very disrespectful to the community that is frustrated with the game, whether those frustrations are warranted or not. I’m not asking you to stop correcting them or challenging their positions. I’m just asking that you do so in a respectable manner. And, I’m just asking. You’re free to do what you want. But understand, these people are not happy and using tactics like mimicking aren’t going to make them, this game, or this community look any more appealing. This is the worst way to deal with complaints about the game.

Also, speaking of dogging, maybe let a few complaints go by every now and then. Some people just want to vent.

Anyway stop telling people to prove it prove it prove it. No one here is your mommy do your on research.

In Vayne’s own words: “Taste of your own medicine.” I just do it with out compromising my integrity. If people want an honest discussion of the game, that’s great. I support that. Vayne has not been having honest discussions. He has one set of rules for those he disagrees with and none for those he does and himself. This does not create honest discussions of the game. When someone literally say, “he focus has been more towards the top 10% players” and you follow with “You’re also pulling numbers out of thin air. I think it’s closer to the bottom 10 or 15% feel disenfranchised” then you are not having an honest discussion.

So the next time Vayne questions someone’s numbers, I fully expect you to step up and tell him to look it up for himself. I’ll certainly appreciate that.

I don’t generally start posts about numbers by being specific, unless I have access to that data.

In my opinion DaShi feels that I’m being hypocritical by giving people a taste of their own medicine. He might even be right, for all I know. However, saying that no one has left this game because it was too easy, when there are several people in my guild who left for that very reason over the years (and I run a very casual guild), or saying on one has complained about how easy the game is, that’s simply disingenuous. There have been quite a few of those posts.

Um…no. You specifically said significant. That means you should have a good idea how many there are. If you want to respond to someone saying that no one left the game because it was too easy, then, using your rules, you should point out that you believe it is unlikely because there were several posts where people complained about the game being too easy. I understand that you think you are fighting hyperbole, but I suggest you don’t use it yourself if you want to maintain credibility.

In addition, I pointed yesterday at least two cases where you used specific numbers that you couldn’t back up. I only highlighted those cases because you did it immediately after complaining to someone else that they couldn’t back up their numbers. So don’t tell us one thing and do another.
