Revenant - 3 More Legends

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: DanteZero.9736

DanteZero.9736

Data-mining showed us 5 legends for the Revenant:
- Mallyx
- Dwarf king
- Ventari
- Glint
- Shiro

I believe the 6th will be the specialisation, which totals 6 Legends.
Now, each legend has a weapon associated to it.

We’ve seen:

Axe & Mace
Hammer
Staff

Which leaves 3 weapon possibilities for us to explore. Which do you think we will get?
I’m betting on:

Shiro: Sword & Dagger
Glint: Scepter & Shield
?: ?

Shiro because he was an assassin, Glint because she was a dragon, and dragons are pretty magical (scepter) and the crystalline body of her gives her a big defensive buff (thus shield).

Idea’s?

I think we’ll have 5 legends, not 6 legends. Reasons:

  1. All classes have 4 trait lines + 1 class mechanic related trait line.
  2. Each class will get a 6th trait line that is their elite specialization.
  3. Assuming the revenant follows this pattern, that means there will be 4 trait lines that focus on a single legend with 1 trait line focusing on the legend switching mechanic. In other words, the 5th trait line will not focus on a legend, but the act of switching them.
  4. This leaves 4 trait lines each with their own legend and a 5th trait line as the elite specialization.
  5. During the revenant previews, we saw 3 existing trait lines, 1 focused on mallyx (demon stance), 1 focused on jalix (dwarven stance), and 1 focused on switching legends (class mechanic). 3 out of 5 lines have been listed, 2 of which involves a particular legend. That leaves us with 2 more trait lines as the base amount and 1 more trait line which represents the elite spec.

Frame rate just plummeted overnight?

Yesterday, my frame rates were in the standard 40+ on high settings. Today, it seems that my frame rates were cut in half. In Southsun Cove, where I normally get 30-45 FPS, I dropped to 8-15 and in Divinity’s Reach, it dropped to the 20s-30s when it would normally be 45+. My current hardware:

[Suggestion] Mark an item as junk

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DanteZero.9736

I personally like the idea, but I think that the problem Anet would have with it is, “It’s not fool-proof enough”. That is, someone might accidentally mark an expensive item (silk scraps, a precursor) as junk and accidentally auto-sell it. Yeah, it would really be their fault, but Anet tends to want things to be very bullet-proof.

They can unmark items just as they easily marked them.

Maybe the OP means that that particular item would be automatically labeled as junk whenever you get it again? So you only have to mark an item once, at it will forever be in your custom junk category?

Example: You get three items that you don’t want to salvage, you can right click on each of them and select “Mark as junk” causing a trashcan icon with a black outline to appear in the upper right hand corner of the icon. When the mouse hovers over the marked item or future copies of the item, the words “Marked as junk” will appear at the top (just above the item name).

This way, you can sell all junk items with a click of a button at the merchants—including items marked as junk.

Reaper bonuses vs chilled, and SW bosses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DanteZero.9736

DanteZero.9736

Ok, so chill is getting a ton of exposure with the Reaper specialization, which is cool, but one thing that kept nagging my thoughts during the reaper reveal live stream was that SW has bosses that are immune to soft crowd control skills such as immobilize, cripple, and most notably, chill.

Reapers have tons of traits that grant bonuses through the chilled condition. SW bosses are immune to chill. The problem, at least from what I perceive, is that unless SW bosses do not have immunities, chill and therefore, many of the reaper’s traits and potential build(s) are useless/much less effective.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more dark fields and/or converting existing fields from other skills to dark fields. I think well of blood could have potential as a dark field allowing for a blast finisher to spread vampiric auras to other allies. While it may not be as good as consume conditions, at least there’d be something to play around with that doesn’t have a light field.

I’m have a feeling that there’s going to be an internal cooldown of 1 second for the aura’s vampiric effect.

NPC plot powers, just like when you play as Caithe in living story season 2. If there were flesh golems, I assume they would last probably less than 30 seconds each since you’d basically have a small army when facing off against multiple reaper necros.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind having bone minions that all can be detonated. Five putrid explosions is no joke when overlapping.

Wanted to run a potential idea past you all. Comments welcome.

Tome of Courage -> Signet of Courage
Passive: PBAoE Heal every 10 seconds.
Active: Light of Deliverance

Tome of Wrath -> “Feel My Wrath”
Shout that grants Quickness and Fury

We like the idea of tomes and if we did this we would hope to bring them back in a future Elite Specialization.

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks,

Jon

I love the idea for signet of courage since the tome itself feels very clunky to use, as for “Feel My Wrath” is it safe to assume there will be no voice clip that plays?

Also, a few questions regarding signet of courage:

  1. Is there an established range for the passive?
  2. Is the activation time the same as the current Light of Deliverance?
  3. Can you move while casting Light of Deliverance in the the signet form?

Heck, just Demon Hunter would be better because Dragon’s are what everyone’s hunting. Dragon Hunter is in a weird place because everyone is hunting dragons. We have built an army for hunting dragons. It really doesn’t have anything to do with the Guardian.

Crusader and Sentinel sounds way better than “Dragonhunter.” Personally, I would prefer if it were named Crusader only because it conjures up the image of someone using light powers on a personal mission.

Is HoT Destroying Build Diversity?

DanteZero.9736

In terms of build diversity, I don’t care for having some insane number of available build options but only using maybe a handful of genuinely useful builds. I would rather have a smaller number of manageable and more useful builds. If HoT were to reduce the amount of possible builds down by a factor of 10 or so, then I would expect the each of the remaining build possibilities to be incredibly useful. In short, I want quality, not quantity.

not clear here, are you saying you would rather have 10 good builds out of 20 than 20 good builds out of 100?

Well I did say “each of the remaining build possibilities” so that would mean (hypothetically) instead of having 5 good builds out of 1000 with the current system, I would expect the new system to provide perhaps 20-30 builds max, but every single one of the 20-30 builds would be useful or just as good as the 5 or so builds from the old system (the old system being the current system).

I know it has always been in the Dueling trait line, however, I’m wondering why it’s still there in the planned changes. If Dueling is about critical hits with weapons and not about solely affecting phantasms, then it would make better sense to move a trait that only affects phantasms and synergizes with phantasm traits elsewhere.

Also, how is my asking about its placement in the planned changes considering whining and complaining?

Match the activation time with the evade duration, reduce/possibly remove the aftercast, and make the thief stationary so the player thief has more control over their movement (by not leaping over people). • Glyph of renewal’s range should be 1200, not 900. The effect is rather boring for its insanely long cooldown.
  • Glyph of elemental power shouldn’t be a stunbreaker. It would be better off if the chance for conditions were doubled. Did I mention how it doesn’t really make sense that a skill that lasts a long time and gives offensive bonuses is a stunbreaker?
  • Glyph of elemental harmony should have its cast time reduced to .5 seconds. The 1.25 cast time is too long for a heal that doesn’t remove conditions.

[Theorycraft]: Ether Renewal as Cantrip

in Elementalist

Posted by: DanteZero.9736

DanteZero.9736

What happened to cleansing fire if ER becomes a cantrip?

Not much, ER would most likely get a nerf in the form of a reduced amount of pulses with increased healing per pulse (which equates to less condition removal because it’s 1 condition per pulse atm), or a crazy high cooldown (which is any amount greater than 15 seconds because the channel time is the big weak point) to keep it in line with the other cantrips. Cleansing fire, at least in PvE, has never really recovered in popularity once the stun breaker was removed, I can’t say a thing for PvP/WvW though.

My ideal of a post update cantrip ether renewal would be:

  1. 2.5 second channel time
  2. 25 second base cooldown
  3. 5 pulses total (1 condition removed per pulse)
  4. 1000 base healing per pulse with a 30% healing power modifier (basically each pulse would heal 20% of the total health the original version would heal)

Basically, if the cooldown is increased by five seconds, the punishment of being interrupted and failing a full channel grows greater. Therefore, the channel time should be reduced by .5 seconds for every 5 seconds the cooldown increases. However, that would mean faster pulses and faster condition removal, which then makes the spell too good against conditions. Reducing the amount of pulses down to 5 could reduce the counterplay against conditions a bit and make bringing cleansing fire a bit more desirable—assuming cleansing fire were to be buffed a small bit.

[Theorycraft]: Ether Renewal as Cantrip

in Elementalist

Posted by: DanteZero.9736

DanteZero.9736

If they make it a cantrip why do you expect it to be an instant? Heal as one or healing breeze will be non-instant shouts, just as “Guard Me” is. Or you have a non-instant stance, a meditation or an arcane.

There probably won’t be much of a rebalancing because the only reason they want to categorise skills is to make them affected by traits and runes so they can compete with other skills.

I strongly doubt they would leave Ether renewal as it is, as I could have 6s regen/vigor every 12s with the buffed soothing disruption

I have doubts that Ether Renewal will be untouched. If anything, they’ll probably increase the cooldown time. If you ask me, increased cooldown times should accompany shorter cast times to compensate for the punishing effect of being interrupted. However, with the way balance has been handled, I doubt there will be reduced cast times. Anet doesn’t seem to like to compensate for nerfs and it has shown in past updates.

8.7s, so 0.3s less than the cd of on-swap sigils, just to jumble things up a bit

Thought the same

Actually I was not thinking enough when I wrote that

The attunement recharge will be 10 without Arcane and 8.7 with arcane (10/1.15=8.7).
But you cannot swap attunements at will: we have to take into account the attunement swapping cooldown. The attunement swapping cooldown that we have now is 1.625s base and it can be reduced to 1.625/1.3=1.25s with 6 points in arcane. As they mentionned the new attunement recharge will be 10 it is likely that the new attunement swapping cooldown will be 1.25 base and it is possible that specialising in arcane will improve this by 15%. We could therefore expect a 1.25/1.15=1.09s attunement swapping cooldown. But the devs did not mention anything about attunement swapping cooldown, so we cannot be sure.

I expect the real attunement cooldowns (swapping cooldown + recharge time) will be:
10 + 1.25 = 11.25s base
11.25 / 1.15 = 9.78s by specsialising in arcane

Therefore, if my expectations are not too pessimistic then there will be no issue with on-swap triggers.

I hope the swap cooldown is less than 1.25. That’s way too much imo.

They said that random dodges would no longer trigger it and used Flanking Strike as an example of what would trigger it if the skill was used to evade an attack.

Random dodges as in “just moving away from an attack” or actually the act of dodging where you spend endurance? The way they explained made it sound like regular dodging wouldn’t do a thing (at least to me).

I rely very heavily on dodging attacks on my thief in PvE. Usually with all the backstabbing and pistol-whipping, I need to dodge a lot and so, feline grace is incredibly important. If I understood Friday’s live stream correctly, thieves will no longer be able to dodge 3-4 times rapidly since the trait no longer flat out restores endurance but instead, grants vigor when using a skill that evades (which doesn’t include dodging).

Since this is basically going to change my thief’s survival, does anyone know of any good alternatives?

A.E.D. improvement idea

DanteZero.9736

The toolbelt is a nice idea. If you suggested it also being a stun breaker, it would be even nicer.

Hmm stun breaker I think would be a little powerful for a toolbelt skill that already purges condis and can inflict stun. It would be reasonable to have it useable while stunned though.

As for your suggested changes, I think it was balanced to give off a really big heal, so it’ll stay at 40 seconds. However, I think that if no lethal damage was taken, the cooldown should be reduced in half.

Not a bad idea, I guess that could work. The numbers would need tweaking as a 4344 heal on 20 seconds comes pretty close to a 12280 heal on 40 seconds.
I’d say meet in the middle with 30 second cooldown and the halving effect would be pretty ideal.

I suggested 20 seconds if no lethal damage was taken because I was running some numbers in my head and compared it to Elixer H which heals for about 25% more HP and has a 25% longer base cooldown (Elixer H has 25 seconds as opposed to my suggested 20 seconds on AED’s non-lethal heal cooldown).

Given that the base AED’s non lethal healing is about 20% less than Elixer H, I figured lowering the cooldown to be 20 seconds would make it balanced since 20% less healing compared to Elixer H should mean a 20% faster cooldown. Coincidentally, half of 40 is 20, which happens to be 20% lower than 25. To me, that seems like a really elegant approach to making AED more desirable by simply halving the cooldown.

Also, the lethal healing is more than double the non-lethal healing, but the cooldown is only double the non-lethal cooldown suggested, so that’s a higher health gain per second if I’m not mistaken.

Conjures seem highly unlikely, we already have a glyph heal so glyphs are out, arcane brilliance is an arcane skill so arcane is out, which leaves cantrips. So I think there’s an extremely likely chance that ether renewal is going to be classified as a cantrip.
