It’s always interesting to see people go to all this trouble for virtual currency but not apply the same level of determination and discipline on say a stock market. A small investment taken far enough can make a healthy return

Doing what the people in GW2 do to make money would get you a 15-20 year jail sentence in most countries…

Or, back in the old country…….. they wouldn’t be found again.

See, here’s the thing, you can self correct challenge. You obviously are avoiding doing so. Also, what you describe as “challenge” sounds more like you’re asking them to satisfy some morbid taste? Since you keep mentioning visual characteristics and not combat mechanics.

A lot of players play a game for fun. Challenge is not required for everyone to obtain that goal. Heck, the most fun I’ve probably had in game is “Snowball Mayhem”. It’s the most balanced PvP in the game and it’s fun.

Is the community getting toxicated?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeWolfe.2174

DeWolfe.2174

Here’s a bit of a history lesson. When you scare away your casuals, your RP, and your open world PVE players almost all you’re left with is the hardcore players and the terrible cookie cutter grinders. That’s it. That’s what’s happened to the game, seriously. And what’s more is we warned them this would occur back in Nov 2012 that they were scaring away the players who actually typically stuck with good games for years and improved the community. I’ve never been on an RP server ever where an RP player is actually acting like this, the same goes for a true casual, they generally have great communities on these servers. Many of those players became disgusted at the direction of the game and decided either to leave permanently or to wait. I personally am waiting. Give it time, if they keep in this direction they’ll get the good players back.

Completely agree with this assessment. More so, the toxic part comes from the Dev’s combat designs. They insist on creating Meta builds, like your PU build, that are very strong and easy to play. After getting near instant feedback from the player base, the Dev’s sit on it these builds for months on end. Which infuriates players whom have to deal with it day in and day out. Power creep is another issue that we’ve been sledge hammering into the Dev’s heads without it making a dent. Two second fights are not skillful nor fun. So after such a long time, players just get angry or leave or both.

If only the dev’s would create an EotM type instance where differing rules apply so players can test them BEFORE they make it into the general game. Test servers should be a common feature for every MMO.

Precursors selling for 65 Gold on TP!

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: DeWolfe.2174

DeWolfe.2174

There are players right now who feel Entitled to a Precursor. They want easier access to it, simply because they desire it. Much like a government that controls the output of all goods, these players are demanding that this luxury item be shared with the masses, so as to have no class divisions between the lucky or rich players from the Casual ones.

Right now, in our current state, Casual gamers are liken to the Proletariat, while TP players are much like Bourgeoisie. Arguments between these classes are lop sided, since rich players are few, and the Casual or non-rich are the majority. But just because the majority would demand a certain thing from the government to make them happy, the government currently knows better than to give into the demands.

Human nature is to want. There is no problem with wanting to own a Dusk. There is no problem asking for a Dusk. But you need to take a step back, and look at the situation from a perspective that’s beyond just yourself. You would satisfy your own desires if you got what you wanted, but where would that lead the GW2 community as a whole if everyone suddenly had something that was ultra rare?

If you want a Precursor just so you can make a Legendary, you have cheap options to pick from on the TP. If you want Dusk because Twilight is cool looking, or is a status symbol since it’s pretty, or whatever, that’s your choice. Having made that choice, you join the thousands of others with the same desire, competing for the same item on the TP. If someone is willing to spend more Gold than you can afford to spend, then your options become limited. And because you made that choice, you agree to live with the consequences.

Woahwoahwoah let’s stop this thread right here. I think this post is probably the most thought out intelligent posts on the forums. +1. Agree wholeheartedly.

Except, it isn’t very well thought out at all. It’s more of a player trying to mimic an OP ED from one of his favorite political pundits. Especially with the over use of political buzz words.

The realization should be, the majority of players are the ones buying gems. They, the majority, is what keep Anet in business and the game running. Just like in the real world, it is the majority that keeps things running. They matter and should be rewarded for their patronage and service.

The Gem Store: It has contaminated GW2

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: DeWolfe.2174

DeWolfe.2174

I think Anet should consider putting in a VIP system, much like how China has. I’m more than willing to pay extra money for extra benefits. People willing to spend X amount each month helps NCSoft/Anet’s bottom line, and would be completely optional. Players who don’t want to participate can still play the game as normal. It’s a win/win situation for all.

Did you see the reaction on these forums when the VIP-data was data-mined before they announced it for China?

I know. Perhaps we should give it a chance? Maybe a private test run for a few selected players?

I’m not sure, are you joking about this or being serious. It’s hard to tell sometimes.

Player’s obsessed with prestige, wealth, and separating themselves from the community will never be good for an MMO. The Dev’s know what they are doing by trying to build the game around a greater community.

Curtis, I’ve written several post for this thread and deleted them all before posting them. Not really thrilled with this but, I’ll wait to give it a try. I will say the single most important piece of information of “what am I getting for this?” is still missing. If you expect players to grab a calculator for every transaction, please have single digit’s display as 05 instead of just 5 please? Say for the screen shot of selling Akitten’s value is 190595, not 19595. I can see players using a calculator will mess this up from time to time causing an unnecessary annoyance.

I’m not thrilled with all the huge icons as it’s taking up valuable real estate for actual items. Having each page reduced from 10 to 7 seems wasteful.

What I am going to be happy about is if the “Top Demanded” items is no longer displayed. The shear abuse of that column has annoyed me for a very longer time. Now if we can add a favorite items list for our regular purchases, then the TP would be much more functional.

Proposal: Anti-Stacking Debuf

in WvW

Posted by: DeWolfe.2174

DeWolfe.2174

Squad size is limited to X (X = 40 in Gold (T1-3) and EotM, 25 in Silver (T4-6) and 15 in Bronze (T7+) ).
Every player not in the squad of a commander and not in 1500 radius of that commander and that has more than X players within radius of 1500 gets an unremoveable stacking-debuf (visible to any friend and fiend):

  • 50% Vitality
  • 50% Toughness
  • 50% Healing Power

If 2 commanders are within 1500 range the anti-stacking debut applies to them and their squad as well.

If you die with this debuf, you cannot be revived.

This isn’t a very good idea. I can’t even think of a reason this would be good.

DeWolfe, I agree, I didn’t see any rage in your post, but with respect to the changes regarding WvW as it pertains to your performance concerns, this was in the News regarding the Sept patch:

Performance Updates

We‘re always working on the performance of the game with every update, but we have a big batch of improvements coming in this feature pack. We’ve changed the way many of the underlying systems work, making them more cost-effective, which will reduce how often players will be seeing issues caused by performance. This is most notable in large combat situations like WvW and at the PvE world boss events. These improvements affect both the server and client performance, so in these situations, you should see increased frame rates as well!

TY for taking the time to post. It’s why I asked him to list the fixes. As I knew it wasn’t possible since we haven’t been given any specifics yet.

Oh, the sound of kitten farmers. Your cheap kitten is ruining the game for new players and people who want to play the game (and since you don’t support the game with money or rising the gold to gems ratio, you’re also ruining the game). Deal with it.

And what I do care about killing mobs without drops or exp? BECAUSE I WANT TO PLAY THE GAME! No just rush, finish and get rewards.

And obviously, you can’t possibly comprehend how farmers ruin other players experience. After all, selfish players only care about themselves.

so what about the people that farm keys with sword warriors and no tweaks? you know, the “i don’t want to pay more just to farm more easily” crowd, like me? we kill mobs just as fast as you.

Did I said something about warriors? No. Still, you aren’t supporting the game but well, ArenaNet works for free I guess.

Considering I just spent another $20 a few hours ago for gems, I’ll bet that I’ve spent more real world currency on the game than you have. Also, how many times are you rolling a human to be so so terribly inconvenienced? At most, you could be experiencing this for a 30 second event for one race. For that you are so terribly put out that you want everyone else out of your Queensdale? I think anyone with such intolerance is a far greater threat to the game to be honest.

Breaking the ice (exploit)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeWolfe.2174

DeWolfe.2174

People have the right to farm and fail events if they want.

Well if that’s the case A.Net should rewrite their ToS.

I stopped running around and doing Events in cursed shore when one time I tried to do an event with some people, apparently that event was supposed to fail. So after some waves, the zerg came and the commander told everyone to just scale the event up. They did that, we died and they just stood there and watched. After the event failed, they left like nothing happened. This was not only sad but also terrifying. Seeing a whole zerg of people just watching you die, I know it’s just a game but still.. geez.

Like it was already said nerfing that event is just a bandaid solution, they’ll find another event and exploit the fail state and they will continue to do that until someone gives them a slap and tells them to stop.

An exploit is the misuse of a software feature or bug in a way that allows a player to generate in-game benefits without the risk or time expected by the game’s designers. It can involve the use of a third-party program and it includes generating currency, experience, or other things of value to players.

The scaling and both completion states are functioning exactly as developed. When are people going to get that there is no bug being exploited?

The QD champ train was broken on multiple levels.

That’s going off topic but, the only thing QD needed was tougher Champions. They should all require 10+ players to kill. This would have preserved the train and subsequently eliminate any toxicity from those grieving it. Even for immersion and progression, a fresh character shouldn’t be able to solo kill a champion. It should take team work which is what the train was, social teamwork.

There is no gambling involved in getting Black Lion skins if you buy them from the Trading Post.

The system as it currently exists allows people who enjoy gambling to gamble and people who despise gambling to acquire the exact same items without gambling.

Gambling, as a form of production, is flawed. After players get soured by it, supply generation diminishes and prices increase. I think the majority of players do not want further price increases. Inflation has gone up too much the past year as it is.

For purchasing Black Lion Keys, no, I’d rather do without. Any such feelings as being better of doing without, is not good for the future of a video game.

That’s an interesting idea. For the recent discussion on communication, I don’t know if the issue is truly one of not hearing from you or a feeling of not being heard. For not being heard, one of the issues I’ve noticed as a frequent forum poster is that after we express something on the forums, it’s quickly gone. This is do to the incredible velocity of new threads. Bumping and +1’ing can’t keep a topic on page 1 for long. The only thread that has had legs is the epic, “No Hobo sacks” thread in the Engi forums.

Maybe if there was some form of a user generated lists we could vote on by +1’ing? Like a stickied top 100 list, in horizontal bar graph fashion, per forum topic? A voting list that has a suggestion box with a constraint on the maximum number of characters to say for example 75. This would ensure brief and concise topics. Then simply a submit button beside the suggestion text field. Then a +1 button beside each row, with one suggestion per row.

A user generated list like this would be quick and easy for us, the players, to check and see if our issues have already been expressed. Then for you, the developers, you wouldn’t have to read pages and pages worth of text. Also, by not having direct Developer input, it would beholden Anet to anything on it. Which I feel is important because players have been using what developers say to club each other over the head in the forums recently. As much as we like socializing and interacting with all of you, there should be boundaries. Especially when I like to be *surprise by what you are doing with the game!

*note: being surprised does not include balance changes.

The problem is if they have low rank then it indicates they barely have marginal experience in the WvW zones

Or, they are playing on a new account. Or, they spread out their time across multiple accounts. Or, they are a great commander but, have a very busy life and only play’s a couple hours a week. Or, they may even be a returning pin that played a lot before the addition of Ranks. That’s why it’s already been mentioned, Ranks are not an indicator of Commanding ability or WvW knowledge.

Putting a number next to a pin starts to enter the realm of vanity more than a serious addition to WvW tactics. WvW Veterans know whom are the better Commanders, simply follow their lead.

This is an exploit. Stop trying to justify your behavior and work for your rewards like an honest player.

What is dishonest about it? There are two outcomes, one rewards better than the other. So players are choosing the one with greater reward. Which is a very sound and logical decision. No one is hiding or denying it. In fact, players are welcoming and inviting others to join in and share in the rewards. There is no dishonesty there.

Not exactly, you have to earn enough gold to keep up with inflation. Many of the higher sought after items have doubled in price the past year. Say for the “The Legend”, you’d have to make 700 gold over the past year just to give to inflation. You’d still be the same value away from being able to purchase it you were a year ago. 700 gold for a casual player is substantial.

I had hoped crafting would get expanded outside of standing in front of a station but, it hasn’t yet.

Let’s hope the dev’s catch on that some players would like more from the game.

Let’s consider that, after two years, everything we do in game is about rewards. Can anyone genuinely say they “feel” anything when doing content in Cursed Shore? Are you running a Temple and actually thinking, “I’m saving Tyria!”? I highly doubt anyone even considers whatever the “meta story” was supposed to be. So let’s call it what it is, most players are there just to kill for rewards.

Killing for rewards can be a topic all it’s own. I’ve advocated for well over a year now that killing shouldn’t be so highly rewarding. It’s an entire topic that spans well beyond this thread. Though wanted to state that it’s an issue in design.

Wealth is designed in this game to be a competition. That is the driving force behind a lot of poor behavior. It’s especially true for those trolling. They wish to not only receive rewards but, to deny others as well. Beyond the simplistic notion that its for the twisted amusement of aggravating others. (sidenote: I put them in the same ilk as those whom DDoS’d the game last night.) This desire to obtain wealth and deny others is what creates toxicity. This was certainly true of the QD train. One that easily could have been remedied by simply increasing the Champs difficulty. Making them challenging to the point where it required social grouping and coordination. Which one would think, group play, should be the core theme in an open world MMO. So why couldn’t these professional developers figure out such a simple solution? Why leave a gaping hole for those playing socially?

The developers have been making some very odd design decisions that are either enabling or exacerbating toxicity. This year Leeching has become an issue with the LA events and Boss Blitz events. Instead of blaming the players, I think the developer’s need to step up their game, both figuratively and literally.

I don’t run PvE often but, as a service to my server I did drive the QD and FGS train once a week. Would it surprise you that the same handful of “unfriendly” players whom antagonized the train, were antagonizing Blix? That a player that I found out was antagonizing Gold Boss Blitz layers was antagonizing the community at Blix?

What’’s sad is that this handful of players are whom Chris end’s up protecting. Tron wouldn’t approve…….

Well, it doesn’t mean there are no griefers in PvE – there are quite a lot of them, in fact.

The OP’s idea is still dumb, and instead of combatting griefing would only promote it. Especially considering the specific reason why he wants it to be implemented.

Correct, you aggro the normal mobs and run them into the players while they are focused on the boss. This was especially effective at Boom Boom. There were multiple threads and replies to this issue. [TTS] was targeted frequently as they were very successful at achieving Gold.Though leeching and botting was also a large problem due to the poor event design.

Please do list any other suggestion? Outside of one person adding to the conversation by mentioning GM’s, the rest of the replies add nothing to the conversation of preventing large socially organized groups from being grieved.

Defcon Alert system!

in WvW

So I’m watching the Gamescom 2014 interview with Devon Carver. One question is about a problem with calling for help in capital cities (LA) like we used to do. Since we simply cannot run into LA and say “X map needs help now! Golems inc Garri!” any longer with the Mega Server system.

How about we take a page out of the US Department of Defense and use a colored “defcon” system? Simply have the WvW Icon on the top left of everyones client change color based on the greatest level of risk an individual map is facing. It can be based upon an average assessment of user selectable submissions. To drill down further details, a player can open the WvW panel and have a visual queue of which map is at each risk level. Simply by having the map selection banners change color to match that maps risk factor.

Anet knows our world association. Thus, I don’t believe it would be terribly difficult to keep the correct players informed at all times. Visually, it would require no UI changes beyond coloring existing UI content.

Idk, since every other icon has a notification status available to them, it seems adding this would solve the problem and maintain continuity to the other icons.

Thoughts… anyone?

I can see it now, groups of PKers roaming low level areas and demanding protection money from newbies / outright murdering them. Truly a genius idea!

Ok, I did state “enough” players. Hence the number would have to be substantial like 40-50 for example. Which, you would not see that many grievers gathered together. Probably isn’t that many in the whole game. It would allow open world GvG though.

Ok, let’s kick this up a notch with pattern of behavior. Here’s a screenshot from earlier today. Please explain this behavior as not grieving?

Here’s the quote, “So you can find another flow but we will probably find you there too.” Hence, this is simply not two differing groups with differing outcomes desired meeting once. This is one small group systematically chasing another group and imposing their desired outcome upon them. Please tell me how that’s not grieving? Please tell me that’s not the same as purposefully derailing any train or event like Boss Blitz?

No, I am not in the wrong. The general rule of GW2 is play how you want. You may not like others earning an income from farming but, that doesn’t give you the right to enforce your (your being the keyword) point of view of how the game should be played. Especially if you intentionally chase other players to take away how they wish to play. In this scenario, players should be able to defend themselves from bullies.

lol there are no grievers in PvE. What there is are people playing a game that they paid for and a bunch of kitten farmers who are constantly upset that they can’t easily exploit bad game design for profit…

Whoa, let’s turn that around right now. You have 30+ players wanting to do an event. Yet, 3-5 players are preventing that event from ever occurring. So that makes the 3-5 righteous in your eyes??? I’m looking at several of them right now and they are all known to have grieved the QD train and Boss Blitz. Now, what is the excuse for Boss Blitz? One individual in particular would run circles and aggro mobs (especially Boom Boom) to attempt to prevent Gold. How is that not grieving? How is a pattern of behavior against fellow players excused?

That’s why fine, let’s turn off the protection mechanism’s that coddle these players.

You are naive, my friend.

What are you doing that is being derailed by 1-2 players?

Why do I have a feeling that you’re talking about farming a certain ill-designed event…

Yes, presently it’s the CS event. Though these same players have been grieving every other popular social event in game. Especially if there’s a monetary gain from the event. Gold layer Boss Blitz’s were trolled daily. Then WvW siege trolls driving us nuts. Nothing we can do about it and it never get’s resolved by Anet. An entire map queue can report the player and send in screen caps. Nothing ever comes of it. That’s why if the dev’s don’t want the responsibility, then go Wild West with it and empower the players. Can’t make anything worse than it is now. And, it can easily be reverted if it doesn’t work. At least it’s trying something.

Anyone have a better suggestion other than not playing at all?

What’s stopping me from forming a troll guild with the sole purpose of PK’ing newbies in Queensdale?

Because I have faith that good players far outweigh the grievers. And, please do create a guild and consolidate all the bad players (Not that you are). Either way, it then brings GvG to PvE! Which, I’m really surprised you figured that out so fast, GJ.

Either way, the game is going ever further down hill. When 1 or 2 people can derail what 40+ players are doing, it’s not a good design. I thought Anet would learn but, they just keep enabling grieving.

Once again, and dueling thread pops up. Well, I have a counter offer that goes a little bit into Dueling. It actually kill’s two birds with one stone. How about an unfriendly fire state? Where if enough players target another player, we turn red and can attack the target and the target can respond in kind? This gives a taste of dueling and finally empowers the community to take care of trolls. Because Anet has gives us next to nothing to handle grievers.

If Anet isn’t going to protect the players, then they should empower us so we can protect ourselves.

Colored commander tag - please don't do it...

I used to always see people in the borderlands complaining that you should have to be rank XXX to have a commander tag or that it shouldn’t be so cheap.

The few whom said that are Snowflakes wanting to turn a tag into a prestige item. Not a functional tool required to maximize WvW strategies. A tag should, and subsequent colors, should have been implemented since launch. And, no additional charges added since it took players to figure out the need. Anet should consider it their cost for having such an oversight.

Snowflakes are going to be this games downfall if the dev’s continue to cater to this vocal minority.

I don’t know why we were ticking so high. Our Sea Forces are pretty strong still, that’s for certain. It’s the rest of the hours in a day where we lack sufficient forces. Take for example a little while ago during late NA. The attached is a screen cap of us being outnumbered in EB of all maps. We couldn’t even hold our keep against the BG map zerg. The time stamp on the mini map is Server time.

That’s why we’re opening recruitment for all time zones. Especially, EU and late NA.
