You don’t need to cut down trees if you don’t want. It’s perfectly ok to stick to killing innocent animals and murdering people if cutting trees is a “feels wrong” issue.

Phospholuminescent Infusion--Halloween

Hello, I just spent litterlly 10 hours nostop opening an insane amount of ToT bags, about 60k bags or more considering the others opened in the previous days and of course I didn’t see the Phospholuminescent Infusion, did you lower the drop rate or what? It’s not fun at all, as the first day after 2 hours there were already 3 Infusions at TP. For me this is totally insane, i was really hoping to get it if i opened so many bags but nothing…I’m very disappointed

They didn’t have to lower the rate for you not to get it after all that. Its just normal RNG. RNG = brand new player can pull something extremely rare on first try. RNG = vet from day 1 could never get that same thing no matter how hard they try.

edit: Per Electro.4173, Pancakes with maple syrup are “100% tasty for sure”.

There are many skins that I would like but I can’t afford to buy keys on a regular basis and simply will not grind for keys. So I’ve only received 3 complete tickets in my 4 years. I do spend money on other things in the game, so I think it would be great if keys dropped slightly more often. Like in Achievement chests or other rare times.

I would love to make seasonal costumes for my characters but I spent too long getting their “normal” outfits exactly right to want to change them. I wish we had several “costume” slots that allowed either visual or physical change of gear at the press of a button. Then I would definitely create seasonal looks.

I know there are seasonal “Outfits” but I will never buy an outfit. They aren’t versatile enough for me to spend money on (real or virtual).

The reason why HoT is terribly designed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Djinn.9245

Strawman or not … that’s tough news. Anyone that doesn’t actually anticipate that old maps and content become old news in an MMO is fooling themselves … and to complain about it? I mean, why don’t I join an MMO after 4 years and QQ i’m behind everyone … oh that’s right … because that would be nonsense. OFC you’re behind and having a hard time completing things. That’s no surprise to anyone who has played MMO’s.

Let’s review this again … WHAT are you paying for in an MMO … access to a service. There is no guarantee you ‘win’ or can ‘catch up’. OP is over a year behind on an expansion … does any reasonable player here actually think there is something weird about his situation? I don’t. That doesn’t make HoT terribly designed at all. IMO, that’s what makes GW2 an MMO. I guess people forgot what that means, for better or worse.

My recommendation, better make some friend that want to help you … or you to help them.

The problem is not that the maps are getting old and less played,it’s that they shove grouping down your throat everywhere, and they don’t downscale enough to compensate for lower population.
It’s failed design from top to bottom.

You’d be right if this were true, but mostly it’s a matter of getting to a populated map. I’m in HoT all the time and simply using LFG to get to active maps prevents you from not having enough people to do things, even if you don’t stay in a group.

Would that that were true for all players, and not just those who get lucky to be able to “join in” during their play window. The problem with mega server is that it creates a climate in which the lucky have fun and the unlucky do not. If you’re consistently lucky, good for you. However, your experience is clearly not shared by everyone.

I believe it was last week that one of the Dailies was Event Completion in Dragon’s Stand. At the time I was playing, there seemed to be 2 maps: 1 that was full and 1 that had a few people that seemed to be mainly trying to get into the full map. Not enough people to do the events. After a while of trying to get into the full map, I gave up on that Daily.

This has happened to me several times lately when I have tried to do things in HoT maps.

There are lots of animals out there that could be fun pets but we can’t yet unlock, like the rock dog. At least those can be tamed by the ogres, so surely they could teach us how to do it!

Other random animals off the top of my head:
-Raptors. Too much like moas, but mentioned for completion.
-Bats. They’re kind of nasty, but we don’t have a lot of flying pets.
-Sea Turtle. These were only found in non-Risen variety by Ember Bay, but no one would turn them down.
-Skales. I’m pretty sure skales aren’t tamable, and they’ve been around since pre-Searing Ascalon.
-Melandru’s Prowler. Probably not different from regular panthers, but MELANDRU’S PROWLER!
-Beetle. This one is probably the hardest (pun half-intended) to justify, but hylek can ride beetles, so they can clearly be cowed.
-Other devourer breeds. There’s two available already, but I think there are other breeds out there.

That’s good enough for now. Maybe if I come across other species in my journey, I’ll add to the list.

Isn’t there a Heart in Ascalon with Charr taming skales?

Sort of. The Asura are helping, so they can wage Full Skale War against the Separatists. (And yes, the game makes that pun). But even then, it’s not so much taming them as neurologically shocking them into docility, dragging them to the target, then making them go rampant (Though the game prevents them from going hostile to players for mechanical limitation reasons)

I guess I was thinking of Skelk at the Help Raintimber Mill heart in Diessa. I looked at the Wiki and Skelk are separate from Skale although they seem similar to me.

CHAT SUGGESTION:

One thing that I think would really be a great start is to remove physical character actions from chat. The point of typing “/sit” or “/dance” is to make your character perform that action, not to inform everyone in chat that your character is doing that action. When you go to a club and dance, you don’t simultaneously announce to everyone around you that you’re dancing. They can see that.
Removing these actions from appearing in the chat record, or at least having a toggle to remove them, would allow me to avoid my chat filling up with
[Character] is busting out some moves, some sweet dance moves.
[Character] is busting out some moves, some sweet dance moves.
[Character] is busting out some moves, some sweet dance moves.
[Character] is busting out some moves, some sweet dance moves.
etc. Which is unnecessary since I can SEE that the character is dancing…
This would be a start to cleaning up chat.

ESO does that and I think I miss a lot of things as a result. Especially in RP situations where I’m not staring 100% of the time at the screen in zoomed in view since not everyone is a super fast typer, it’s nice to have a text record of actions that were done as part of the RP.

Which doesn’t make repeated spam like you list any more appealing. It would be less of a problem, I think, if there were a much vaster list of emotes. They needn’t even all be animated, just have a flexible set of lines that go in chat. WoW managed that iirc. Then of course you get into the issues of remembering all the options … but I digress. This is about chat spam. The more varied the output, the less annoying the repetition, I’d think.

People miss things IRL…

please no more stories before zones

Djinn.9245

The feedback thread is more than 3 days old but feel free to merge it if it should go there instead.

Please do not make us go through story steps to get into a new zone. I like freeform exploring then doing the story whenever. Plus it makes the zone feel like it is not part of tyria if I can not just get there from a neighboring zone without waypointing. Narration would be one level of ugh but both chapters have had something challenging to even get there.

Am I the only one that has that reaction? The fact that each zone had a zone-specific mastery was also not a plus for me but hopefully their masteries will be used elsewhere.

I agree with this objection. For Ember Bay, it is part of the world that anyone should be able to get to. For Bloodstone Fen, it makes sense for it to be story gated for the first week or so, but once the events there become known to the world at large, people will naturally start to travel there of their own accord.

Only Anet has the metrics. the problem is that the metrics don’t show how many players are TRYING to get something accomplished and failing vs players who are just running around getting currency, crafting mats, or whatever.

No Required Number of Players on missions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

Small guilds already got completely hosed in HoT, so it would be nice if guilds, and guild missions (esp in pve) got a looks see for rebalancing in general, but one thing that is super annoying is that there is no scaling whatever for guild missions and quests now that they are the ONLY way to get guild points.

All guilds should have a choice as to how their missions are completed, just as all guilds deserve a chance to get and complete reasonable missions. If that guild only has 2-3 players, there is no reason to have arbitrary requirements for participation so long as the mission is otherwise doable with any number.

Also, it is clear that Anet’s idea of what an “easy” mission is can be very far removed from the reality of in-game play. So I would suggest you take a look at mission classification, and adding new missions, too.

A very reasonable request.

Why anyone should object; other than the fact that certain posters believe everything Anet does is beyond criticism, is beyond me.

And if the new maps in LS 3 are any indication, this trend is set to continue. Getting a bit tired of running into godforsaken areas and fighting endless minions of dragons and dealing with cataclysmic world-ending crises (let alone being called the “Commander” forever). Where are the peoples and cultures of the world? Let’s see more intrigue with Kryta, and revisiting of established areas with some more NPC population in them!

In a way, I think that Anet has written themselves into a corner in this regard. It would be great if we had one crisis, solved the crisis, then were able to take a break and do some stuff for local villages, etc. But since it is well-known that once you kill the first dragon there are 5 more to worry about, it seems kindof silly to be resting or worrying about someone’s apple harvest or whatever. Instead its one crisis after another, harder and harder maps with increasing numbers of minions with CC, etc. Gets a bit much after a while.

Guild Question: What to do about MIA's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This is why it’s dumb that multiple guilds were implemented. Sub-guilds are literally a glorified LFG-system and if a player decides that a different guild would serve better as his “main guild”, good luck seeing him repping your guild… it’s not going to happen often.

I question why this system was ever considered a good idea.

I think that multiple guilds is a fine idea. I have a smaller guild that I like all the people but they can’t play a lot for RL reasons. So I have a couple larger guilds that have more people on frequently. Gives me a choice of activity and I rep the guild I’m playing with.

Some people might like Raiding so they join a hardcore Raiding group, but would like a more laid-back guild for non-Raid days. Or whatever.

um now your arguing my point. your list is correct , jumping is a tiny segment of GW2, you can say GW2 has a platforming element, but it is not a platformer, it is a mmorpg. as with your list, you can see the same on the official HOT wiki, 4500 words describing its content, the word ‘jump’ is used once. They did not sacrifice a thing, it is a tiny element of a huge game added to give diversity.

I should add your list is worded incorrectly

GW2 has small group PvP .
GW2 has large scale realm-like PvP .
GW2 is a small group instanced PvE .
GW2 has a large scale even open world .
GW2 has mindless hack-n-slash combat .
GW2 has tactical combat .
GW2 supports role playing (I don’t rRP in GW2 but have in other MMOs).
GW2 has mini-games .
GW2 is an exploration game.
GW2 is a crafting game.

You really don’t want to get into a grammar argument. Where are the capital letters at the start of your sentences?

It happens that GW2 can be viewed as a PvP game if PvP is all you play. So he is not wrong.

Put a message on guild tab about kicking inactive players after a fixed amount of time.
As for representing its pretty clear cut. You either have a full representation system or no mandatory representation at all.

Generally guilds that dont require representation tend to fall on the sidelines over time.

I completely disagree about representation needing to be full representation. I represent a guild voluntarily while taking part in guild activities and take turns representing them while soloing. I have quit several guilds after finding out they required 100% rep.

There are a couple tests that you should apply when evaluating whether a game is a ‘platformer’ or not, and that’s the intent of the designer and the intent of the player. Now lets look at the maps.

The intent of players is not to platform, it is to quest, gather, kill, explore, play meta.. No player says to themselves, i want to platform, i wil go to HOT. The intent of the designer was to create a more complicated map where vertical travel was an important element to provide value and fun for gliding. Consider how dull gliding would be if the maps was a dull set of vertical slabs.

Now jumping puzzles and Adventures are very different, these are designed very explicitly to be a platforming sub game – the reason for the puzzles existence is to offer a challenging platforming route where the goal is to beat the difficult jumps. The same challenge we get in jumping puzzles in every other zone in GW2.

What we have here are players who don’t like a map trying to user the term ‘platformer’ as a derogatory term to justify their dislike.

As I said when I originally mentioned “platformer”, I don’t like the direction GW2 is going with Anet making it more and more twitch / platforming. What I meant by that is the initial introduction of platforming elements in Dry Top and the continuation of that trend and increased emphasis on vertical play in HoT and forward. Whether you think that platforming elements make HoT maps “platformers” or make them “like platformers but not really” is just semantics. If anyone wants to make a case that they “actually aren’t platformers”, that really doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is that they are enough like platformers that I don’t like it. And it is a severe departure from the original game mode which I prefer and was why I purchased the game.

We have the original statements of the devs of how hard the raids should be and that not all the players will be able to complete it.
Can you point to an official statement of the devs stating that this is no longer true?

You have a dev statement to support you. He has actual dev actions to support him. Anet has demonstrated time and again that words are meaningless. Judge by their actions. They have chosen for the raid to NOT be what they originally spoke of just as Anet took plenty of other actions that contradicted their stated intentions.

So you’re saying that players who don’t want to Raid and don’t believe they can complete a Raid because Anet said Raids are the most difficult content for dedicated Raiders should somehow decide to put up a LFG for a Raid so they can open the Mastery? And you believe that such a PUG group would be successful?

And you think it is reasonable to expect this?

I would think the intention was not “Change your gear right now to X!”. Of course there is always the exception to the rule but for the majority of the legendary weapons this is true. Ill tell you this.. I’m not going to throw away gold on crafting something I can just go buy and save money. For all of the great things in this game there are some that are flat out broken.. and legendary weapons supposedly being THE end game stuff to strive for maybe you guys should look into changing some of the requirements to make one.

I had an idea for portals and/or jumping mushrooms in Guild Halls that let players visit the far-reaches of their guild hall without the effort of actually jumping, walking and gliding to them.

The downsides:

  • Development time taken away from the Living Borey
    The upsides:
  • Player-generated fun, Minecraft™-stlye (if they are implemented in a certain way)

On the one hand, I think its fine to have whatever people want in their Guild Hall. However I wonder what kind of processing it would require to have potentially hundreds of these items that produce bounce / produce a loading screen in the same locations (between all the guilds). That might be what makes this impossible to implement.

Right because you only see 10 ppl at teq right? Or any other world boss? I think you’re being a little overdramatic about the whole thing. VB is a bit dead, but the the other maps are very much alive. Especially AB because of the whole multiloot thing.

This isn’t just 1 World boss, it is getting an entire map to Tier 4. There is a huge difference.

Oh I’m sorry it’s an entire map. My bad, let’s change the teq example to SW then yeah? lmao.

VB doesn’t have the same incentives as in SW and its more difficult to get around.

The point is you are asking to change the Home Instance into something it shouldn’t be, since then it would not serve the Personal Story. My suggestion is for you to suggest something other than changing the Home Instance — such as the too-often-suggested Player Housing idea (google it).

And I did express my opinion of not wanting to “work” in a game to maintain my “home” since what you suggested sounds like a lot of work (hire workers, feed them, etc).

And I don’t feel it is good for the game to have these NPCs creating income for you, aka gathering, rather than you doing the gathering yourself.

My opinions.

I think you’re correct about housing vs home instance. But I wish the Home Instance could be more of a “home”. My character supposedly lived there but other than the few things I learned in the Personal Story, I don’t know most of the people in there. If you go to your Home Instance every day to gather, you would know more about the NPCs that at least are near your nodes. In the Human instance, those orphans run by me every day but I know nothing about them.

Oh, and the NPC gathering idea is in WoW at least. I guess that’s going to make it a popular idea.

For those unsure of the game genre in use when playing HoT I suggest the following exercise. I use the word exercise but it is not hard at all.

1. Google with search term platformer game
2. your first hit will be the wiki for the platform game genre. Game genre is by definition and luckily the wiki uses the standard definitions.
3. The first sentence of the article reads: “Platform game (or platformer) is a video game which involves guiding an avatar to jump between suspended platforms and/or over obstacles to advance the game. These challenges are known as jumping puzzles or freerunning.”

There. That wasn’t hard at all. The key aspects to gameplay in a platform game are 1) navigation of platforms, and 2) advancing the game thereby. Vanilla GW2 with jumping puzzles was an MMO not a platformer. You could navigate platforms all day but you were not advancing the core game. An example of advancing the core game is arriving at VB and discovering that you need both gliding and updrafts to begin advancing the core game.

The problem is not having elements of platforming in GW2. Jumping puzzles were absolutely brilliant. You could knock youself out with them and have a ton of fun. At the same time Player X could ignore them and derive their fun from standard MMO aspects of the game. Brilliant.

And, for the last comentator here, it has nothing to do with game “difficulty”. Because the full genre here is ‘platformer obscura’ you can’t figure anything out except by brute force as in trying every possibility. Brute-force and skill-based are at opposite ends of the spectrum. This is why the first jump by a skillful player is always to youtube to find out the remaining jumps. What about brute force is going to make the gameplay fun?

Well said, thank you.

This has already been explained to you: The difference between platforming and navigating HoT is the skill element.

If you miss a jump in a platforming game, you die. That’s how Mario Bros. worked. Not only that, but you played against a timer. The game requires precision while driving you to play faster. That’s really the only point to it and why it fits in the genre of platforming games.

HoT does none of that. The similarity ends at “Well, there are platforms…” No skill is required. All you need to do is unlock the requisite masteries and find the path to your objective. As Vayne said, only the jump puzzles require any sort of skill.

I disagree. What happens after you use all the platformy items is still up to you. It might be so easy for you that you see it as requiring no skill, but I disagree.

And my original point in bringing up platformers was to state that I didn’t like the direction Anet seemed to be going, not to claim that GW2 was a platformer.

Hello guys. I got HoT on pre release, but didn’t start playing until recently with my new Daredevil.

Seems a bit unfair to blame anet for you not playing in the zones earlier.

This is a strawman – no new player is allowed to get these collections?

You’re the one who just made a strawman. The OP is not a new player, nor a new owner of HoT. GH’s comment incorporates that fact, and is specifically directed towards the OP. Generalizing his point to encompass all new players to argue a point clearly not made by GH = strawman.

You can say that my statement doesn’t apply but that doesn’t mean it is a strawman argument (which it isn’t). Whether or not the OP decided to wait makes no difference to whether or not HoT is more difficult with less people playing. This is because HoT also has to be accessible to new people. And not just new people who start right now but new people who start a year from now when HoT might as well be Brisbane Wildlands for all the people who will regularly be there.

Of course, that isn’t all there is to TD, but knowing how to easily reach the waypoints creates the framework you’ll build upon to understand this map. Many of the objectives (HPs, MPs, POIs, vistas) are hidden in areas that aren’t clearly marked with paths on the map. But as you discover them you should begin to add them in to what you already understand about the layout.

Eventually, it all comes together and makes sense. And when it does you realize there are many different ways to get around and between waypoints on this map. It’s really rather convenient once you get it.

I have all the WP and know about the Wallows. I know how to get to the main areas like the Scar lane. Its the hidden areas that I continue to have trouble with. The areas you really only need to get to one time for a MP or whatever that are very frustrating to get to. I end up using guides and even then struggling.

Some people are very good at directions, at knowing where they are and where they need to go and how to get there. Or they are good at figuring it out.

I am directionally-challenged in RL so TD is a nightmare.

My home instance is my guild. Literally. I dumped a heck load of gold into scribing so I could craft myself a bed, table and lamp so my quiet corner of the city would be a “home”.

I just wish Anet would allow players to loot unlocked nodes in guild halls instead of their home instances so I could “move” into my guild hall good and proper -.-

I wish Home Instances were as customizable as Guild Halls.

I agree. I would like to be able to put my nodes where I want. Also to be able to decorate. But I haven’t done anything with Scribing since Anet caused my small guild to go bust. So I don’t know about getting into that expensive craft just to decorate my Home Instance.

I agree that it isn’t really “platforming”

Just to check, I looked up platformer games online – Mario Brothers was mentioned almost every time. So I watched a play through video (even though I have seen it played) just to make sure I remembered it correctly. In the first couple of minutes it showed Mario jumping on objects that shot him in the air, gave him a speed boost, etc. Running through a tube that shot him across a chasm…

Sounds very similar to me.

The content is not exclusive, if one has HoT he can do it, there is an easy event that will unlock the mastery track that people mentioned here multiple times, now if people aren’t willing to play through it just once it’s their own problem.
Just like if you want a legendary you play WvW for a Gift of Battle, there is no way around it.

The content is exclusive - according to the devs statements the raids were designed with the idea to be completed only by the most dedicated / skillful / with a great desire of challenge and adventure players etc., with other words not for all players. The problem is not that the people aren’t willing to play such content, but, maybe you did not notice, to unlock the mastery you should actually win in that content. But success in the raids is not for everyone – look again at the devs statements – is only for few.

Not only did Anet make these statements about the GW2 Raids, but it is common knowledge that Raids are the most difficult content in all MMOs. In most MMOs Raiding is also gear gated and part of a Raiding progression. It is meant as content for only the most dedicated and skilled players.

I’m just curious here, if someone likes exploring maps for the sake of exploring them, then maps with huge complexity will be much better than plain/flat ones no?

Yes, HoT maps were designed for true explorers. For those that follow the rewards however, if they find that they are incapable of completing a single objective, there is no longer a reason to bother with any of it.

People throw around words like platforming

Some people are very slow to act, are keyboard turners and have a hard time doing multiple actions at once. The simple act of jumping can be an obstacle, so they see the HoT maps as such.

Having not actually played any platforming games, it might be that they are far more complex than I think. However, using movement crystals, bouncing mushrooms, updrafts, leylines, and now thermal tubes, definitely reminds me of the platforming games I have seen others play.
