Not every Commander takes themselves quite so seriously

You weren’t made Commander because of how seriously you took yourself, but to save the world…

“Excuse me, I know there are dragons to kill but I’m going to spend a lot of time and money to get a Quaggen in a Bowl toy for myself.”

As I said, I don’t have a problem with this type of item just that it is a Legendary Weapon.

You could argue then, that almost any activity not Pact related is a ‘waste of commander time’

“How dare you go play Tixx’s Infinirarium during Winterday, there are dragons to fight Commander!”

As I see it, going through the process of obtaining a Legendary Weapon is like a Heroic Quest – like trying to get Excalibur. Its not comparable to playing any of the minigames / Festival games which I see as taking your character outside of the main game.

This huge difference between Heroic / Legendary and silliness is why I am sad that some Legendary Weapons are silly. Obviously some already existed and I don’t expect Anet to remove those, but I am disappointed that they are adding more.

Well, technically there are two pretty precursors for Eternity, considering that the vast majority of people that go for the legendary greatsword are going for Eternity and you don’t get to keep the other two legendaries when you make the third. If there were three Greatswords, then you’d have all three at the same time, with stats you could change.

Not sure why you are saying there aren’t 3 Legendary Greatswords – there are. And you CAN have all 3, you would just have to make Sunrise and Twilight twice. Once to create Eternity and once to keep.

There is a game patch download that and then also repair your client, delete temp files cookies and old search history. Do a disk cleanup a defragmentation and delete old pictures, music and other things that take up space on your computer. Then if that doesn’t help restart your computer do another repair and try opening the client again. Also are you running a 64 or 32 bit client for gw2 and is it a mac?

Lottery 1 pre-legendary weapon, 250globs ...

So if 1000 people enter the lottery, you will get 250,000 globs and 1000 BL weapon skins and only 1 of those people will get the precursor?

That would be a genius way to get rich if enough people fall for this. Great way to make lots more than the 1 thousand gold or whatever you’d normally get.

I guess there are people silly enough to throw away that stuff and get nothing for it but I don’t understand why. Nevermind that the person who wins gets a random precursor and not even their choice.

If my daughter and I get too involved in discussing Star Wars or a super hero movie, my wife likes to say, “You guys know this is just a movie, right? It’s not real?”

So…

“You guys know this is a game, right?”

I don’t consider having a calm discussion to be “too involved”.

I have never been a fan of shields in any game, so when I feel like I have to equip them, I tend to favor the less traditional ones (SAB and Lovestruck are my faves). For me, Quaggan Shield is absolutely perfect.

Now I have to decide if making a legendary for a weapon that I only use on two alts is worth the time and effort.

@Felahr: You are being ridiculously overdramatic. Just because you find the shield’s theme to be silly doesn’t mean that it’s “ruining” the idea of legendaries. If you think a collection of weapons that includes a glorified pop gun, a rainbow unicorn spewing toy bow, and an actual disco ball hasn’t already shown its hand as being for a wide range of players, then you haven’t been paying very much attention.

While I am not going to be over-dramatic about it, I do wonder sometimes about Anet’s perspective on Legendaries. On one hand, they are probably the most difficult things to get in-game and that is why they are called “Legendary”, but on the other hand the goofy ones are not very “Legendary” in a Fantasy way.

I don’t mind the introduction of really silly things in the game (vs the story), but I think what Felahr might be objecting to is Anet taking a group of incredibly rare and hard to get items and trivializing some of them in this way. Some of us really like the story and want our characters to be Heroic. Now a percentage of these already super-rare weapons are not a choice for us.

I think that goofy things should be exclusively Festival, Gemstore, or BL ticket items, not something a character actively pursues in the game world. I can’t see “The Commander” taking time away from saving the world in order to obtain a toy “quaggan in a bowl”.

Pity I main an asura

I was thinking that. My character most likely to use this is an asura and I’m worried it might be too small to appreciate on her.

You’re absolutely right that it’s silly. But to me that makes it even more special. It is the single most absurdly over the top weapon I have ever seen in any game I’ve ever played, or heard of. That’s pretty legendary to my mind.

As I said, I am speaking of Heroic Fantasy which is what GW2 is based in. A game that supposedly values Story and puts your character in charge of an army to save the world. Since you don’t have a problem mixing a quest for an absurdly silly item with your Heroic Fantasy, you aren’t really arguing with me and my point still stands.

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

You’ll also note that one of the other barriers I listed was time. I work a full-time job and often have other commitments on weekends: I simply don’t have the luxury to commit to raiding once a week with an organised group. Similarly, I don’t have a lot of time for farming even if I wanted to.

wow must be tough for you- I mean out of the Millions of gw2 players for only you to have a full time job. Here I thought I had it rough doing 12 hour shifts in the Emergency Department throughout the week – wow thanks for that perspective…..

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Djinn.9245

Perhaps people are afraid of raiding because it is very scary. Very threatening. Almost overwhelming in the despair it inspires. The horror of sitting at a computer, looking at a screen filled with terrifying images of…a game.

The horror. Seeing characters, other players, digital monsters….in a game that we are choosing to play. How ever do we manage to cope?

Or perhaps, just maybe, there is the slightest chance that people are not afraid of raids (gasp, inconceivable!) but rather just dont want to play them.

It may be difficult, nearly impossible for some, but try to imagine that you are not the center of the universe and that other players are real people, who dont all share your exact tastes in entertainment, too. They like things that you dont and dislike things that you do. Its nice when there is overlap between different peoples’ likes. Great in fact. But its ludicrous to label others as somehow deficient for not sharing your exact tast in entertianment media.

Great post, thank you.

225 gold for a stack and you can only get 20 a month talk about a gold sink. These should be more available and not that expensive.

Most of the money is going to another player if you buy them from the Trading Post so it’s hardly a gold sink.

All of the money isn’t a gold sink but a significant amount is. Any Merchant or process where you spend money in-game and that money doesn’t go to another player is a gold sink.

“Gold sink is an economic process by which a video game’s ingame currency (‘gold’), or any item that can be valued against it, is removed. This process is comparable to financial repression in real economies. Most commonly the genres are role-playing game or massively multiplayer online game.

As it is, I’ll skip it entirely.

HoT solo which is supposed to be 100% group based “endgame” (relativly speaking) content.

Where do you get this idea?

Level 80 only zones, massive meta events on every new map designed for multiple groups, heavy bias to hard hitting dungeon level champions, raids that cant be soloed, guild halls for guilds, a new WvW map, updated Fractals, a new class designed to buff everyone around him to OP levels and other small tidbits…

What gave it away that it was mostly group based content?

There are Champs and metas in every level zone, that doesn’t mean every level zone is meant to be played in groups. Just certain content.

What about dungeon cutscenes? Gotta be the biggest “did nobody test this before implementing it” parts of the game. Sitting there for about a minute each time, waiting for one guy to finish watching a slow, badly written, badly voiced cutscene of some simplistic dialogue every single time you do a run…it’s incredible.

The only option is to not skip them, and cringe yourself inside out in the process…or to wait at every interval for that one guy.

Some of us care.

Yes, and I totally disagree with the “badly” being thrown about like that. Pretty lame if you ask me.

The cutscenes feel like i’m watching a cartoon. That’s how bad the writing is. Mix that with voice acting that’s for the most part awful, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
Even if the cutscenes were wonderful, why would i want them on every run?

The only thing worse than waiting around for that one guy to finish watching a cutscene before you can proceed is having to wait for that one guy before you can LEAVE, because he’s watching the lengthy end-of-dungeon cutscene, and the reward won’t pop till he’s done.

Let’s see your cutscenes, hear your voice acting, so we can critically dissect them…

A person is not required to be a professional in any field in order to criticize that field. Are you forbidden to have an opinion on your food at a restaurant if you can’t cook something better yourself?

Best times to fight Garent?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The maps I organize are full long before the gerent event draws near. We usually are full ~1h before the event with only a few spots left. So those fill in an instant when I put it into LFG right before the meta.

There are always a few entries in the LFG for TD in the evenings. Join one of them and help with events, HP and anything players there do. It’ll be a fun 2 hours and by the time the gerent event starts you’re on a full map with ppl organizing it.

If you only show up 15mins before and only want to do the gerent it’ll always be a gamble. I’ve never had a map fail because of too few players.

I disagree that there are ALWAYS a few entries. The two nights I tried recently there was only 1 LFG and that was for Gerent and was full.

  • What time did you check? Near reset? 8 hours after reset? It took a few days for people to start coming back after the Halloween lootstick festival.
  • Check again if you only see 1 LFG — if there’s enough for one full map, there’s almost certainly enough for two successful maps (although it can be difficult to get the second one going, with so many people focused on trying to get into the first map.

It was later in the week, into the weekend. Don’t remember exactly but it wasn’t 11/9. It was evening in NA. I was also surprised that there wasn’t more than 1 group. As I mentioned, the map I was in one of the times tried for Gerent but failed moments after getting him to appear.

Hey everyone, been a while since I’ve posted here. Any folks here who run TD fairly often? I need to kill the Garent for my legendary axe, and I’m having rotten luck getting into any good maps. Most of the time we have too many AFK people or people doing other things on the map which really just messes things up. :/

Are there any guilds that specialize in TD events? Any peak times where more successful META runs take place? Thanks in advance.

There are people who will tell you that the metas are fine and WAI. The last two times I tried for the Gerent fight (last week, around 9pm NA), the one and only map that was organized was full more than 15 min out. I kept trying to get in until the event started. I gave up on one night. The other night, the overflow map that I happened to be in was not organized and although we managed to get the Gerent to show up, the event failed within seconds.

I look at the lil desktop icon and think of my guildmates and friends but I have no drive to play this game and havent touched the living story yet either

There are tons of MMOs out there that are exactly the same: the level cap is static and once you reach it there isn’t much left to do with your character. And in those MMOs just like this one your options are:

-Keep playing your character(s) anyway
-Make a new character
-Leave

That’s just the way it is.

This thread discussion annoyed my ocd.

Correction: Tomes don’t have a noise or visual. The lightshow comes from leveling up and occurs regardless of what causes you to level up.

What this thread is asking is for the leveling up visual and noise to be muted.

Also guys stop overthinking it. the simple solution is to just make the level up effect client only, and not render for nearby players.

Technically true, and that is a good solution also except for people who might not want to experience large numbers of level-up effects themselves.

I still think the best solution is to simply skip the level-up effect when using a Tome.

Biggest Issues with GW2:

1. The change in direction of the game since launch. GW2 started as a casual-friendly game with “play as you want”, no increasing gear progression, and avoiding grind as main goals of the developers. Starting with Dry Top they have made the game increasingly twitch-dependent, increasingly difficult, and increasingly grindy. They have also completely erased “play as you want” by locking character progression behind game modes (WvW, PvP, Raids) and even STUPID MINIGAMES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STORY.

2. The new focus on “E-Sports”

3. Armor Skirts

I seldom use large numbers of the tomes in a row as I prefer manually leveling to give me projects in game and to get to know the character for any RP use. But when I do, I go well away from the crafting stations and banks. Given how much the light show wrecks my train of thought, I see no reason to inflict that on others. (If I’m only using 1-3 things that give the burst, like recipes, I figure it’s endurable, nor do I kvetch if someone else lets off a burst or two near me. Only when it stretches out a long time does it become truly annoying).

I can see some technical issues with making a way to consolidate the level-up tomes into single-use batches. Mostly having to do with how the level rewards are assigned; while the reward chests do stack when you ding one after another, I don’t think you get the per-level rewards for the lumps of 20, 30, 40, or 80 levels. Not that those really are needed, I just think maybe coding different behavior could be trickier than it sounds.

When I’ve seen people use around 20 Tomes, it seems to go as fast as they are able to click. I’m not sure what happens to the level rewards in that situation, but if Anet can make a Level 80 item, they can make Tomes have a variable “consume all” where you choose how many you want to consume and it simply makes your character that new level.

And because there are people actually like spamming noise / light things, please just remove the noise / light from Tomes altogether. Donari also mentioned Recipes and IMO you can remove it from those also.

After playing an Asura Warrior for a good while I’ve come to the conclusion that upon finishing full ascended I will most likely transfer all of it to either a Sylvari Warrior or a Human one (Possibly a Charr? GASP)
Reason is simple: I’m just not acknowledged as much
I work hard on getting my outfit right and nice looking, getting pretty weapons and all but all complements go towards the tall people around me.
Plus It’s hard to appreciate my look myself, unless I’m zoomed in close staring at it.
Asura just, lacks appeal in the grand scheme for me, R.I.P. tiny ball of pure death.

I completely agree. I won’t be getting rid of my Asura characters but its a shame to spend a lot of time on their look and then I can’t even see the details without zooming. I’m working on Bifrost for my Asura Elly and then I noticed that Bifrost on another Asura was hardly even noticible! Mine is currently using the Zenith skin and that is more distinctive than Bifrost while sheathed.

And I really hate that minis are practically invisible on Asura. I don’t understand why Anet scaled pets and minis with the size of the “owner”. That doesn’t happen in RL, so I don’t understand the motivation.

I don’t really have a problem with it, but hearing someone use a tome 79 times is horribly annoying. I don’t want to have to mute all sound for such a small thing.

Early in the game, Tomes were more rare and usually only one was used. I’m sure the devs wanted to show that gaining a level was a big deal so they gave it the noise and light. But now that people use Tomes by the score, I think the devs should simply remove the noise and light.

The first time I experienced someone using something like 20 Tomes at once, I had no idea what it was. I had never used a Tome because I like to level my characters. I thought the person was just spamming some weapon skill or something lol.

As for moving away, if I’m busy looking in my bank for something or looking through the possible wardrobe (in the bank since I haven’t unlocked everything), I can’t simply move away without a fair bit of inconvenience.

How about a consume all like we have with luck? Or if you have a large number Consume # then you enter the number you wish to use? Then it would only be once, faster for them as well.

I think a new interface option is a great idea. But I would vote for something that lets you indicate how many to use and then simply makes your character that level instead of “using” a Tome over and over.

Duels: How I would think these could work would be, you can invite someone to a duel. You can only invite someone to a dual in a racial city. If they accept, you will be transport to a small arena in the mists and duel. After the duel you would be transported to the city you was in. If they decline the duel, you can’t send them another invite for at least 5 minutes to prevent spam. You would also have a option to auto decline invites to duels in the options menu and they wouldn’t even pop up.

They already have this in other games and the places outside the city become cesspools of EP and language. We already have PvP, go there to beat on other characters.

Skin Inspections/Preview: You can’t see the stats, only the name of the skin of the armor/weapon/costume that person is wearing currently.

Someone will figure out how to datamine. In any case, it will only open the door to showing more information. Its not necessary, I vote no.

Ummm, there are a lot of mmo’s out there with player inspection, and none of them use it for greifing. Also I played Aion up till patch 3.2, and “inspection griefing” was never an issue in pvp or otherwise

None of them use them for griefing, hah! First, you can’t claim that you know what all of the players in all of the MMOs do or do not do. Second, I have played almost every single Western AAA MMO and I can say for certain that those who have inspection use it against other players. Even players of LotRO which would seem to be a very calm and nice MMO use inspection against other players.

That slot is “seasonal” and I expect it to remain until it is replaced with a Wintersday gift. I hope they have some in-between seasonal items lined up for us.

I don’t. I hope they get rid of the seasonal bags in BL chests altogether

You’d rather have nothing than the seasonal item? The ‘seasonal’ slot was previously a temporary festival item, dropping around 10 weeks/year or so; the seasonal slot will have something 52 weeks of the year.

(I know we sort of went back & forth on this in another thread — I’m hoping that they add a fine/basic unlock to the ‘unlock slot’, so that something always drops, even if it’s likely to be a skin I won’t care about.)

I didn’t say I hoped they got rid of the SLOT altogether, just the drop.

It is your contention that this slot replaced the temporary item. It is my contention that BL chests have always had 3 permanent slots with the possibility of extras. This is a permanent slot, configuring it differently doesn’t remove it.

cant you just replay the living story and get it back?

Its more of a question of being able to look at an item and remember how I got it. Like I collect post cards and shot glasses to commemorate my RL travels.

It would be very inconvenient to replay the LS just to look at the item again.

I also have packed storage. But I don’t want to delete this type of object which reminds me of the story I completed. I wish we had a “trophy” wardrobe that would hold this type of item without taking up our normal storage.

As Khisanth said if you can see them in the game you can click their character, then right click their portrait to get options like ‘sends mail’, ‘report’, ‘add to friends list’ etc.

I can’t get in game to check now but if I remember correctly you can also right click their name in chat to get the same list of options.

Yes, you can mail someone from right clicking the name in chat. I do it all the time.

Slightly related, but recently I received a salty mail in game from a guy with weird characters in his name which I was unable to replicate to be able to block him from sending me mails, I was actually appearing offline so that’s why he used this method to call me some undesirable names shall we say, anyway my point is, there should be an option in the mail UI to block sender, seems its been overlooked.

I think you are able to report the mail message. I would also take a screenshot and file a bug report, no one should be “protected” because they use special characters in their name.

I’m guessing that since they already have so many clipping issues with the gear we already have, that’s why they don’t want to add capes.

The other issue I’ve seen is people going to a gate and getting an armor, then once we can get inside some of them go to a different gate leaving the gate they got the armor from without enough. I’ve seen 5 armors at a gate go down to 1 once we were inside.

BL CHests?

Thanks for posting this. I was looking for info on whether they put the boosters back after Halloween, I guess they don’t want to sell keys. So I will keep stockpiling them and not buy keys until they change this.

You can see what a Black Lion Chest will have on offer (at any time) by previewing its contents in-game. No need to look at the Wiki or Forum anymore. It’s very nice. =)

You don’t see what is in that chest, you only see what the possible drops are. So, while that might be a convenience, it has nothing to do with the fact that the only way to get speed boosters is by leveling a character or getting a booster in a cl chest, and now we can’t get them in the bl chest. I love speed boosters and they cannot be purchased from the gem store.

But you can use the preview to see if they have been added back.

IMO Out of Combat run speed should not be a character trait or take the place of a stat in combat gear.

If Anet did give a permanent run speed buff, Gem Store items could stack so they would still be desirable.

Kudos on the Scout's Coat

I’m a big fan of the Duelist coat, it’s like the Scouts but all races can use it. It looks equally as good from Human to Asura. There is a lovely pattern that dyes pick up nicely too. Wish there were more tops that weren’t trench coats/with butt skirts or didn’t have a female characters top hanging out either.

What really bothers me is that there have been countless threads on the forums requesting armor without skirts but Anet keeps producing more.

Djinn.9245

I agree on the Scout’s Coat, really nice alternative to most medium armor. The Duelist coat is also very similar and works on all races.

I have to disagree with you on the ball gown thing though. My wedding dress was a floor-length blue ball gown and part of the reason I chose it was because I still had a full range of movement wearing it. I could walk, run, jump, do a high kick (that got some laughs when I tried it on in the changing room) and because it was floor length it hid the fact that I was wearing sensible shoes underneath which meant I could walk and run normally. Not that they stayed on all night anyway.

It depends on how they’re constructed. If it’s tight-fitting (like the noble count outfit) then yeah it’s going to limit your movement. But if there’s enough fabric to spread out or it’s separate pieces – which a lot of light armour is (or more often legging with part of a skirt over the top) it’s not going to restrict you.

It may not restrict your movement too much, but long fabric in combat is definitely a bad idea. You can trip, get caught on things, and opponents can grab it and restrict your movements. Most societies that had capes / cloaks would either remove it or wind it around their arm for serious combat.

BL Chest Rant

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

I’m not asking anyone to feel differently about the chests. I’m explaining how I see it (boosters gone; instead, we have a 10% chance of a rare skin unlock).

Just curious why you say they replaced boosters with the chance of a rare skin unlock. Boosters were the guaranteed item, which I see as being replaced with another guaranteed item: the Festival bag. Wardrobe unlock is a Rare item that has been added to the Rare Drop table like they have changed up the random slot tables before.

We can agree that two slots remain the same: random whatever (I say it’s always been junk; some people say it’s a gem shop sampler).

The question is: what are those other two slots?

There are only 3 slots. The fourth is a random chance of happening at all which means I don’t count it. If I happen to get it that’s fine, but BL chests don’t “have” 4 slots afaic.

Here’s the main reason why I like my world view better: it means I’m not cranky about something ANet is doing. I have plenty of RL stress and there are enough things in the game I think ANet needs to re-tool or fix; I’d just as soon as not have them worry about (what I have always seen as) the Bag of Junk. Again, I’m not saying that anyone else has to see things my way — I’m just saying that it works for me.

Fair enough

Finally, I would like people to consider this: suppose we had never had boosters in BL chests — just two slots for “random junk” and one seasonal. Suppose that ANet added boosters today. Would we really think it was better than what we had yesterday? Would more people buy keys (with gold- or cash-bought gems)? Or would be mostly be saying, “eh, boosters; nice to have but not really enough value to care about.”

If BL chests had always been 2 slots + seasonal I’m not sure I would have purchased keys much for the reasons already stated about the seasonal. But since I actually use Boosters, I would potentially purchase keys more often as I would be getting more bang for my buck with an additional perk from the chests.

Weapon motion and effects are valuable tells for allies and opponents.

Dropped by Treasure Rutabagas. Chance 1 : 50,000

If it was a toggle instead of skins, you could simply toggle it back on if doing difficult content where tells were needed. And no stupid drop RNG.
