Are people really that helpless or are they too clouded to open the wiki or google it? It’s more work to begin a new thread than google it to find out within about 1 or 2 minutes how this map works.

There are a number of people who have very limited time to play, and many MMOs that you CAN just get in and play without having to consult outside sources. If you only have 1 hour to play you want to spend that time playing the game, not reading about playing the game. And additionally there are probably people who will go to an empty DS and simply conclude that it is just not popular or not working. Why would they even think that they have to look it up online to “find out how it works”. Shouldn’t it just work or be made clear from within the game?

If you only have an hour to play it wouldn’t matter anyway. DS takes longer than that. Play on a day when you have more time.

The meta takes more time, but how would a player know that? And what about the various events that you can do even if you’re not going for the meta? One would think that people might be in the map to just do events, gather, map complete, open pods, etc. like other maps, except that this isn’t the case most of the time.

If raids are so easy and people are completing with 4 people, why are some raid leaders charging 100g for a boss so people can open this Mastery? If its so easy why not let anyone in your raid?

It’s a free market, and they will charge what the market will pay. Are they filling these raids? Also, are they expecting the people who pay to contribute absolutely nothing, or are they expecting them to participate, understand mechanics, etc?

I suspect you will find that this is paying to be carried through a boss kill as dead weight, no expectations at all on you, for the mastery.

If you want to not pay gold for it, try instead finding a training raid, or a guild that raids, and working with them instead.

And why is “the market” willing to pay 100g? If raiding was so easy, anyone who wanted to raid should be able to do it without paying. People only pay for a completion because they can’t get one any other way or it takes so long that they’re willing to pay for convenience. I don’t think many people are paying 100g for convenience.

Why do you need to find a training guild if raiding is so easy?

Kill Braham, Marjory off in story

in Living World

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

Of course. I am putting forward a preference for the story to be written in such a way as to have the PC avoid and ignore the offending characters, removing them from the story going forward.

Sadly, Braham has just done something of major importance to the lore of the story. Like it or not, a lot of the story will center around him now. Even if we’re not in the same area as him, he’s going to be inescapable.

The real problem for me is that Rox and Garm are with him. Remember, Rox lost her entire family (her first warband, family for a charr) in one sudden and tragic accident. Not only did she lose everyone, she also had to deal with survivor’s guilt and suddenly being gladium. She was truly alone, and that must have been devastating for her. She sees what Braham is going through and wants to be there for him, but she doesn’t realize that what he’s feeling is more self-centered than what she felt. Braham isn’t alone, he just wants to pretend that he is. Rox is likely going to get killed trying to keep him alive.

And Garm? Well, there’s only four people I can think of that Garm might follow. Two of them are Rox and Braham, and as they’re the only two together, it makes sense that he’d follow them. And… yeah. He’s likely going to die too.

The annoying character we can’t avoid is going to drag down other characters with him.

You’re right. And apparently Anet doesn’t understand that this isn’t “good drama”, this is “frustrating stupidity”. I’ll be that there are silly executives there right now saying “the fact that players are arguing about this means this was a great decision”.

Hey so I got the game when it came out and keep playing it on and off but i’ve never actually done any end game content. Until recently when I boosted a necromancer to 80 and started randomly exploring maguuma, which was fun but I want a goal to aim for.

I have started the mastery thing to get precursor weapons (because I want twilight) but I have no idea how to get mastery in central Tyria. What am I supposed to be doing??

Also is it worth it to just buy a precursor and then go straight for the legendary?

Skritt Hit wintersday daily?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Djinn.9245

I want to gather some info on this. You may have noticed this thread started a year ago, and we made changes after last year’s Wintersday that substantially improved the way the “Skritt Hit” activity worked. However, I have heard and read a few comments about concerns related to this year’s event and I had a lengthy conversation about this in the game last night, as well.

Can you post your experiences? Maybe like this:

  1. I can complete the activity in the festival area.
  2. I can complete the activity, but not in the festival area, only outside the festival area.
  3. I cannot complete the activity.

If you can complete the activity, do you make adjustments so such things as aiming and waiting until they are no longer invulnerable? (I confess to trying to smack them right away, and they really are invulnerable for a few seconds. )

If you cannot successfully complete the activity, have you tried making adjustments to your aiming and timing, as mentioned in this thread?

Thanks for your help!

I tried many times to complete the activity in the festival area, but was getting zero hits for many of the reasons already stated. Yes, waited for Invuln to go away and I tried adjusting my aim. I used to hit skritt all the time in the old LA so I have a clue.

I decided to get snowball packs and use them while I was in Ember Bay. I figured 3 packs was enough but the way the balls dispersed and how quickly they disappear meant that I could not get the activity that way with only 3 packs and I don’t want to buy more than that.

I haven’t even bothered with the activity in a couple weeks.

I don’t like the snowball packs – when you open them the snowballs fly out in a circle from your character making impossible for me to use more than 3 of them before they disappear. I could possibly use 4 by throwing faster, but I already miss enough times.

Its like a bad carnival game tricking me out of my money.

If you don’t want a solution, that’s fine; just don’t do the daily. If you want to do it, this is an easy and fairly quick method and the gift you get from completing it more than covers the cost of the snowballs, let alone the daily reward. The snowball packs are slightly over 2 silver each and you don’t need more than three.

I did a screenshot of the exact place I stand for this. Works easily without getting aggro. Hope it helps.

Some people like to spend a lot for AP, some don’t. My statement about snowball packs doesn’t say that your solution is bad for those who don’t mind them.

I was on that boat of not agreeing with wasted xp and having to do raids to stop that, but recently deciding to go back to work on some collections and getting around to making some of the new guild armor, I didn’t want to let a ton of xp go to waste, so I started watching the LFG, saw a Gors training run and jumped in on it, hoping for a kill. They were at some point before the cemetary I think (still haven’t done much with raids, so not sure), got to Gors, spent about an hour trying to kill, actually did pretty good most attempts, but couldn’t kill him. Later I said screw it, and paid out 100g for a boss kill(Gors). No, I didn’t just pay and stand there, I jumped in remembering the fight explanation from the training run, and participated.

Well, now after that, I’m like, thats actually not so bad, wouldn’t mind doing more, lol.

This coming from a person who said screw raids for the last year+ with no interest of ever doing them.

Guess basicly, if you haven’t given them a try even once, maybe you should, maybe you’ll like it, maybe you won’t. Heck, if the xp is that big of a deal for you, dish out the gold for a boss kill.

Sure, perfectly reasonable to pay 100G just so I can get XP again. Not like XP is a normal thing that you get in pretty much every single MMO without having to pay in-game $.

And regarding “give them a try”, some people have very limited time to play a game. Why should they spend their limited time doing something they don’t want to do? Or even something they already know they don’t like to do if they’ve tried raiding in other MMOs? Just because Anet has decided they want to force us to play other game modes? No thanks.

Kill Braham, Marjory off in story

Funny but I thought that the discord in the little group where Marjory was not willing to simply be told what to do as if she was a subordinate and Braham’s anger over what he saw as the disrespect for his mother’s (and Snaff’s) legacy was the first sign of any true “mature content” in the story line.

These are not soldiers in our own little army, they’re heroes and almost by definition a hero is someone who’s willing to stand up to and do what they think is right. When that’s at odds with what our character wants then a clash is inevitable and correct. Before now the characters were all just tagging along with us on our merry japes, now they have a little character of their own and their own goals. This will allow for a much more interesting story-line, IMO.

I suspect that they will return with a preview of the new elite specs before the next expansion but then I remember that norn who go to fight Jormag and fail tend to come back as icebrood so…

You think “I’m glad you didn’t join Destiny’s Edge. My Mother wouldn’t want you in there.” is mature? LOL

No, what people are complaining about is characters being immature or selfish.

when you maxed maguma hot masteries you need to do 1 raid boss to unlock the last mastery line and after that is exped up you gain spirit shards for each level up after that.

If you dont do one raid boss you gain nothing.

I’m assuming you mean you’ve unlocked Forsaken Thicket but not killed a boss or something? Cause I have completed all masteries but haven’t unlocked Forsaken Thicket and I get spirit shards.

Toypocalypse is far too easy

I’d be happy if it got just the following changes:

  • A counter for how many items you can place down out of a clear total. As you get near it, it grows bigger and turns red, possibly starts flashing if you place down more siege. I’m tired of people who won’t listen to me in team chat continue to place down new crap even while the old, upgraded stuff is disappearing in front of their eyes. Replacing a mega cat with a regular one is a downgrade, why the kitten would anyone do that?
  • Delete the objects with the lowest health first if you have surpassed the siege cap. Same as above, I’m tired of people just placing down dozens of new objects every round, and they end up deleting my upgraded snowmen, catapults, and few ice walls that are near full health instead of deleting (or, gasp upgrading) some first tier siege that is almost dead.

Making it harder could be fun, but honestly after the first few times I only do this for the daily when it comes up so I don’t mind it being easy. To me, its not worth my time unless the rewards were buffed.

I genuinely did not know there was a siege cap for this, thank you for the information!

If there is one it’s so big I didn’t even notice it either, I’ve placed toys all over the place and didn’t notice them disappearing.

It actually takes more effort to lose this game than to win it.

It gets very noticable when you have 2 players trying to build forts away from the center. Princess Doll Hamlet, Citadel Hill and the Rata Sum maze are popular for their terrain advantages; and you’ll quickly notice Catapults on the Opposite side disappearing, because one guy has 20 catas on the same hill.

Why do you build forts? Just for the heck of it?

Gem store Aura wardrobe idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

they should just make the weardrope thing where every aura u dont have are grey’ed out, and alll the ones u do have have a markable area, so u can just click on multiple to enable multipble auras.

So the person who spend 250 gold for one Ghostly infusion and the person who spend 1500 gold for 6 Ghostly infusions (5 armor and one backpiece) before the wardrobe will both have the ability to show 6 Ghostly infusions after the wardrobe?

Not only will this greatly impact the price so a lot more can have infusions (both good and bad) but with so many having infusions with the cheaper prices and everyone having the ability to dial one up to the max available and add mixing types with the ability to dial up the look of each to max, a lot of people are going to look like glowing, buzzing, flashing Christmas trees.

There are people who are there already. Over time, more and more players will have a Legendary weapon plus a backpack with effects and 1 or more auras.

Yes, there are. But that was not my point.

The points I was trying to make
1) is buying one now going to equal 6 later or should buying one now equal one later.
2) granted that people who have 6 now can use 6, will it be a good idea for everyone who has one now to be able to show 6 later and not only show 6 but mix and match multiples to show the max of each. It’s one thing to see the occasional, rare person with 6 but it’s going to be something else if large numbers of people have maxed out auras for each one they have.

I’m not sure what you mean by buying – doesn’t it unlock the item for all characters?

Much as I would like an aura wardrobe, there’s a couple of considerations. Right now you can stack the same auras and use more than one type at a time. I’m betting a wardrobe would stop both of these things.

Points to signature….

I agree that the problem with ONE aura slot is that means only 1 aura.

So far the threads I’ve seen asking for an aura wardrobe have not addressed this point. They only ask for a wardrobe. If being able to stack and mix different auras is important to players then this is something that needs to be brought up. Otherwise I could see a wardrobe with one aura slot made and released and after that it will be too late. They rarely redo old decisions.

Clearly people aren’t fully considering the situation.

Decoration limit

Djinn.9245

I mean the amount of decorations in a localised area yes.

@Randulf
Well I’m pretty sure WvW with 180 players fighting each other will require a higher spec than placing 30 objects on each other. If this is not the case than there certainly is something wrong with how they do things at ANET….
+Even if that would be the case why don’t just add on option for players with minimum spec to only show a certain amount of decorations.

My PC doesn’t slow down noticeably when a zerg is fighting. However, it takes about 10 seconds for my guild hall’s marvelous decorations to finish appearing. Every time I head for the GMO nodes in Lost Precipice, I run smack into the repair anvil, which hasn’t yet shown up on my screen.

Maybe ANet should offer guilds a gem shop upgrade to allow more decorations, with appropriate warnings that folks running potatoes (who can otherwise play the rest of the game) might crash, stall, or otherwise be unable to enjoy such halls.

This. As long as the amount of decorations in Guild Halls doesn’t affect the performance of the rest of the game, and as long as people understand that their Hall will take a long time to load, I don’t care if they allow more decorations.

Is this a new trend?

in Living World

“Heroic fantasy is a sub-genre of fantasy which chronicles the tales of heroes in imaginary lands. Characteristics: Frequently, the protagonist is reluctant to be a champion, and/or is of low or humble origin, may have royal ancestors or parents but does not know it.”

So again

The “hero” is not always the shining star everyone respects and listens to.

That no longer really applies to the player character. It was probably true in the past, but now the player has defeated not one but two dragons.

You could perhaps make the argument that Tyrians thought Zhaitan’s death was a fluke or that the player was merely one of many in the fight. However, after the pact’s near annihilation in Verdant Brink, it was the player who rallied the different races together and was again a central figure in the group that delivered the killing blow against Mordremoth.

No longer can anyone deny the player is a pivotal component in taking down an elder dragon. Lazarus even remarked on it in the previous episode.

That said, I now start to wonder if there isn’t also an inferiority complex component with Braham. In addition to mourning his mother’s loss – his recent time with her made him realize that she was indeed the legend people speak of. With her dead, the pressure for him to live up to that legend has only increased, especially with Norn society being what it is.

He could very well see himself as being overshadowed by the player, with taking on Jormag independently being his only chance at showing others that he’s worthy of his family’s legacy.

Family legacy is a European concept. Norn value making your own story.

Skritt Hit wintersday daily?

This is an easy daily if you don’t try to throw snowballs at the dolyak gift event. Instead:
buy two or three packs of snowballs,
enter Tixx’s Infinarium solo,
wait a minute or two for the skritt to settle down (some groups will just stand in place),
Use snowball pack outside aggro range of skritt,
Throw snowballs at skritt x10 from outside their aggro range (if you do aggro, just run away and they reset).

One note: the skritt don’t get knocked down by the snowballs, but it still counts.

Hope that helps some frustrated people.

Hmm just gave it a good go, doesn’t seem to work. Can’t throw snowballs in combat, and even when I outranged them outside of combat, none took hits.

Nope. Not the same type of balls either.

You need an effect that hits with the matching balls: The ones from magic snow.

I have 12 toons and 158TC’s stockpiled. I got plenty!
YOU SHOULD NEVER NEED TO BUY THEM FROM THE GEMSTORE!

Seems from your post you don’t like any of the game modes that allow you to stockpile TC’s: PvE, PvP, WvW, which is why they are available in the gemstore. For the “I want it now and don’t wanna wait” generation.

League PvP is even more easy then unranked pvp to get lots of TC’s.

Unfortunately, knowing how long it takes them to create armor, we won’t see Legendary Armor in the other 2 modes until the end of 2018 or so depending on the current development plans.

Wart wasn’t a member of the Round Table…

If Anet wants Braham to be a child that is still at home learning, that’s great. But he is a full member of our party. We don’t need emo teenagers adventuring with us.

I just bought the new Ice Encasement Outfit. The shoulders do not turn off. They are so asymmetrical and ugly on the female character.

Please let us turn them off, and the gloves too.

Just stop making things asymmetrical!

Transmutation/Skins still disappointing

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Djinn.9245

To chuck my opinion into the cacophony: I use transmutes regularly – my method tends to be using a spare character slot on something running around the cities. Sometimes I’ll level a character (doing area map completion) and cross fingers for a transmute (or a key. Usually if I want a key, I’ll get transmutes, and vice versa). This is rather time consuming, however. But I sometimes have fun, and sometimes it feels like a mini-grind I can’t be bothered with. I have no real solutions to this, however, it is what it is. If I really want them on the fly, and if I have the cash, I buy the transmutes with real money or gold. I’m sure I’d be open to more creative ways of acquiring transmutes, but I have the dumb today and cannot think of any. :/

What it comes down to for me is this: I don’t mind the crafted skins and whatnot requiring transmutes, or that I jump through a few (occasionally boring) hoops to get them. What gets my goat is stuff bought from the gem shop with real cash requiring them as well. That’s something that doesn’t sit particularly well – you spend 700 on the glider combo, and all bar one of your chars that want the backpiece have to transmute it. You buy the ear muffs, or are addicted to the scarf (for example) – you’ve already paid for it (either through time invested in the game or with real cash), it sucks to have to do it over and over again. I propose any armour piece purchased in that manner should remain free to transmute – similar to an outfit bought from the gem shop being free to apply every time, ditto HoM stuff, Zenith weapons, etc. – these items represent investment in the game(s) in the same way (cash or time or both). The armour pieces should be no different.

This is something i can get behind.

Make the gemstore skins switchable without charges.

I agree gem store skins should be freely applicable. But I don’t understand why anyone would want to keep the need for transmutation charges at all. Why not do it like Diablo III’s skin changing system and just ask for a small amount of gold for each change. It would be a good gold sink and it would eliminate a lot of redundancy and time wasted. STILL haven’t heard any good reason why TC’s are a benefit or even necessary. Just that people will deal with the outdated system.

There is really no difference between using TC or using gold. In both cases you are being charged to use a skin you already own.

Please fix the bell choir

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ll add my anecdotal experiences with joining Bell Choir. I rarely get the error message either the OP or Gaile mentioned. I do often run into the issue of joining during free play. I don’t agree with the idea that this occurs simply because free play is the longest part of Bell Choir. If that was the case, I would expect to join Bell Choir at random times during its length. I simply don’t see that. I reliably join within 30 seconds of the tenth minute(right at the beginning) or within 30 seconds of the fourth minute (Free play). I have found no reliable way to influence which scenario plays out. Neither quitting immediately and re-joining or waiting out the free play time seem to change the chances of getting a working instance. It is extremely frustrating to join during free play over and over, repeatedly watching loading screen after loading screen.

I will agree with Blockhead about the chances of seeing a fix. This undocumented feature has been a part of Bell Choir long enough too call it tradition.

Since a lot of people leave at the start of Free play, the matchmaking tries to fill these empty spaces. It is much rarer to have people leaving in the middle of the songs, that is why you get either at the beginning or the end.

This makes sense to me, too.

I just ran a test — casual, not official.

Most of the time, I got in before a round started, but occasionally I got in, chose my part, and then went “Ugh, free play.” I think it can be particularly noticeable because if you don’t look at the score, you may think you’re ready to start the first piece, then it’s wait for free play to run out, then wait for the next round to start. The free-play is the longer period, as I said, but there’s also the whole spin-up time for the new one, so it becomes even more noticeable. I mean, I could time it to the second, but I think y’all know what I mean — it’s the larger chuck of time.

As for fixing it, I’m not sure if that’s possible. I’m trying to think how that would work: Would you get blocked at the entrace with a “The round is in session” message? Would you get that message inside the map, if you clicked on the snowman and he told you, “We’re currently in free play; check back later?” I’m wondering what would be the best mechanic, because certainly it’s not possible to spin up a new round when ever a single player enters the map.

The programming that fills an instance in-progress should not add characters if the instance has already started Free Play. And / or have the programming change the status of the instance to “Full” once Free Play starts. (However you want to look at it.)

Transmutation/Skins still disappointing

Not quite exact. You buy clothing, you have the clothing. What a transmutation charge is is more correct to ANOTHER item of the SAME look. Like buying 2 of one shirt.

But you already own the “looks”. Like owning a mattress and owning several sets of sheets. Why should I pay to change the sheets?

Because you’re confusing the two. Think more as your character is the mattress in this scenario. If your character is the mattress, your armor is the sheet. You have only 1 sheet (set of armor) and it is striped. You want a different style one, something with clouds. You have an option of buying another sheet (a second set of armor) that already looks it, or change your current sheet (main armor set) by drawing on it (TC).

What you used as the mattress is the armor, and the skin as the sheet. Now yes, this form would be very nice. But then you’re suggesting free skin changes at will, which I believe was the outfits being put in. I just carry two sheets when I want to change my mattress. Bag space is more limited, but that’s my choice for more looks.

Now, I wouldn’t mind being able to earn more TC for current price, or less price for current amount. However, since most players are normally overflowing with TC, I don’t see that happening soon.

I don’t care whether you are talking about changing the look on the character or changing the look of an item. In either case I have already purchased or gained through play all of the skins I am using. If I have already gained the skins, I should be able to use them at will. I don’t understand why I am being taxed to use the skins I have already earned.

You buy an one time use of the skin, BUT can reuse it when you got extra transmutations, look at it that way – and how hoften do you change skills that you don’t have enough? Every day??

So you honestly believe that purchasing an outfit for 800 gems should be “one use” and then using it again is only 24-30 gems? That doesn’t make any sense. If each is one use, then each use should be the same cost. And why would I have it in my Wardrobe if I can’t actually use it? IRL if I have a shirt in my closet I can wear it as many times as I like.

If Anet meant for a skin to be paid for each time you use it, they should charge less initially. They charge more because they don’t know how often you will use the skin… (how often they can get more $ from you).

But see you don’t have to spend on Gems since you literally get TC for free just by logging in. You don’t even have todo anything. There are ways to get them faster yes, but you get them handed to you.

Three charges a month don’t go very far between my eight characters.

Not my problem I just that that is only one way you get them for free and for no effort there are still 3 other very viable ways to get them for free….

Its your problem because it invalidates your argument that you don’t have to pay for them.

I assume this is about the Winter Wonderland? Yes, just interact with the NPC repeatedly until you can enter.

P.S. What does “ju-full” and “ri-full” mean? <— not a native speaker, therefore confused

The second is a portmanteau of “Let’s ring in the bells!” interrupted by “instance full” (start to say the first and end with the end of the second). The first is one I don’t recognize, but probably same idea for the JP.

The OP was trying to offer a humorous title rather than expressing their true feelings about the frustration of not being able to enter the activity.

The first = let’s jump?

I don’t have any ideas that I will actually complete the JP but I had some extra time yesterday and so decided to pop my head in and see how fast I died. Couldn’t get in so that’s the end of that.

There are 4 guaranteed ways to get Transmutation charges for ‘free’ (it will still cost time, obviously)

Time = currency. In that time you can get gold or get other items to sell for gold and change gold for gems to purchase off gem store. Same goes for anything people claim you can get for “free” by actually playing the game (i.e. not counting the login rewards). So no, these things are not free.

He told me to take the boxes…
I took it grudgingly…

Opening all the boxes, I didn’t see any Winter’s Heart Infusion.

It truly was for charity \o/

RNG: one person opens their first box and gets the ultra-rare item, another spends HUGE amounts of time / effort / currency and does not get it.

This is why I don’t play the RNG game.

Marjory and Braham are both grieving. Marjory lost her sister, Braham lost his mother. The first stage is denial. The second is anger. Pretty sure they are both in this space presently. Thus, the grumpy disrespect is completely understandable.

Marjory might be moving into the ‘bargaining’ stage with the whole Lazarus thing. Her bargaining stage may be searching for a means of resurrecting her sister, this the curiosity around the Mursaat’s rebirth.

This is Heroic Fantasy – I don’t want my Heroes to be “normal” if “normal” = whiney, disrespectful, etc. And the star of the story (my character) shouldn’t be a doormat in Heroic Fantasy either.

Never read much fantasy have you?
Or watched any?

The “hero” is not always the shining star everyone respects and listens to. Sometimes in order for a character to grow, mistakes have to be made.

Perhaps you could reply to what I actually wrote. I specified Heroic Fantasy for a reason.

In the Heroic Fantasy that I read, the Hero is not a doormat. Perhaps there is plenty of Heroic Fantasy that has your kind of hero. I haven’t seen much of it. Perhaps its not very popular.
