Umm, did you watch the Angry Joe video? Colin evades lots of things with “I can’t talk about that yet,” but does say vanilla professions are getting reworked and that guild halls and the new PvP and WvW modes will be available even if you don’t buy HoT, though you might need the expansion to make full use of them. Vanilla isn’t getting frozen.
… suddenly I want ice cream.
Some people get soar about anything.
Well, while we are posting our wings.. might as well. JOIN THE BRIGADE

Curious how long Op’s took. And i can’t get the image to show up right. kitten
Nice tattoo (and I say that as someone who is generally aghast at the idea and execution of tattoos).
As to how to upload an image, you don’t embed codes. You click the More Options below your text box, click Browse to pick an image, and select the image straight off your hard drive. When you post, a thumbnail will appear that can be clicked to see full size.
Multiple images are done by hitting Preview rather than Reply, then using Browse again to add the next image. Rinse and repeat as needed.
ANet has kindly compiled links to the videos.

Note the area to the north, with a wp, some pois, a likely adventure(?) — a little domed ruin icon with a lock — and highly interesting, an icon of a caped figure with a staff or spear, looking very much like the watcher we saw in the Pact destruction video.
I wonder what that’s about?
It’s not that I’m an expert, it’s that I’ve seen experts discuss this every time this request has come up in the last few years.
There’s something about the rigging, with each armor weight having a different “skeleton,” and they literally would have to remake each and every armor piece on a new universal skeleton before they could mix together. So all the people asking for new armors would just have to wait for however many months or years it would take the art/programming team to do that just so we could mingle old pieces.
100% agreed.
I’d love it if just like with finishers they included limited use tonics as well, I’ve a bank tab nigh full of tonics of this that and the other garnered before the change to all mystery all the time. Not used in years because I’d have to have the foresight to pull out the needed one on the character that will need it before the whim hits me to be one monster or another.
What price?
500 gems for the wings.
And heeeere is a compilation of many press releases via Twitter links:

Here’s an article released today:

I thought you meant an actual building in game you could go in to see art, a museum run by the Priory or some such. That would be lovely (especially once we can first person camera), but not really subject to individual unlocks.
Well, I got this somewhat crappy shot of a guy using the black reflector (it isn’t easy taking pics in a madhouse crowd with everyone moving). I guess maybe the wings are just their usual black, but it looked nice and uniform in game.
(Side note — Dulfy showed up! She just stood there silently as we praised her, but she was there!)
It’s not just the wings, Char. There are areas of terrain that swallow your feet, like the rug at the entry to the Great Lodge. If you stand somewhere your feet show all the way down to the soles, the wings will clear the ground.
Cat’s shadow? Your mini has no shadow?
Or cast shadow? I saw wing shadows all over the place.
Labeling those would help! First one you linked is BogOtter’s Masteries video. Second is his run through of the Stronghold PvP. Third I closed fast because it’s the first Story instance in HoT and I do NOT want spoilers on story.
What’s not clear is if the points are cumulative or additive. Ie do you get the second one after spending 2 points or after spending 3?
I prefer weapons that look reasonably wieldy and elegant. So …
Aureate
Black Fleet
various ascended, especially Terracotta
Ceremonial
Diptera
Genesis
Golden Wing
Henbane
Krytan
Lovestruck
Norn
Pact Crusher
Priory
Royal Ascalonian
Seraph
The Juggernaut
Warden
Wintersday
Wolfborn
Which is best? Depends on the alt wielding it, their personality and armor. It’s all so subjective.
Might depend on the norn, I see one in DR who is awesome in them. She also told me a trick, if you /dance then toggle the wings off and on you will have them on while dancing.
Yes, they’re on sale for less than 24 more hours now.
Whee I got mine! A problem: they vanish during animated emotes. No dancing, pointing, etc.
They don’t flap when running or idling, just bob back and forth as they maintain their position relative to the character’s back. I think they tuck slightly on a dodge roll but I’m not sure.
They’re still beautiful despite all that.
I think that unique purchase items can’t be gifted to avoid the issue of gifting it to someone who already has it. Not just because of etiquette issues, but because it means gems got spent on something that has nowhere to go.
Note though that you can gift gems via a gem card. So you could buy 2K gems and instead of using the code, give the code to your friend to use.
There are programming structures deep baked into the game that prevent this for armor already made. The different weights don’t play nicely together. It goes beyond clipping. You’ll get texture bleeds, odd undyable patches, and twisted up messes. I’m sure ANet wishes they had done their rigs differently when building the game, but now they’d have to completely redo all the armor to allow what you ask. That’s no small task.
At least the ESC menu can be toggled off by tapping ESC again, so if it flashes up it only blocks your view for a second.
My problem, that is entirely of my own making, is that I have my Dodge and PVP keys right next to each other. Combat gets heated, I hit Dodge, only to have the WvW scoreboard fill my view when my finger’s already moving back to my skill keys. Ouch.
That’s probably just the level where you get an unlock hint popup to tell you about a game feature. Most of those can be used from level 1 if you already know about them (not Elite slot skills, obviously, hence “most”).
If the owl doesn’t show up tomorrow, likely you’ll be 71 by next week anyway, assuming you play more than a few minutes a day.
You’re not the only one, Souto, several in this thread alone have pointed out that interpretation to the OP.
I suppose “Revenanter” to suggest “making Revenants” would have been too silly a name
So your only argument is “more profit”, why do YOU as a costumer try to find ways to improve their revenue? Isn’t that A.Net’s job? Do you think that they can just, out of nowhere, create new outfits or even armors? What if, which is most likely, they are already working at full capacity and just can’t produce more stuff?
You have to keep in mind that we do get weekly gemstore updates. Someone has to create that stuff.
I am perpetually amused by this typo in this context. Costumers put on clothing to dress up, customers purchase things …
I don’t think Smooth Penguin is just trying to come up with revenue ideas for ANet. It’s more likely the common practice of trying to “sell” Anet on a suggestion by claiming they’ll make money if they simply do what the suggester requests.
I wouldn’t mind more outfits so long as they are not the only way to get new costumes. Many of them have been superbly detailed. I do wish they’d allow bits to be hidden (notably shoulders) and helms to be mix-matched in. I also wish they’d put more actual armors in game either via gems or game play because I love combining things into neat new looks. Also it would be super nice if each outfit saved its own dye scheme.
Check this thread for speculation. We don’t have any dev info on specific plans, though.

Why are daily events hard, LadyRhonwyn?
I ask as someone who has world completion. I have the event tracker turned on. I hop into map, then wp to another spot because the tracker doesn’t seem to kick in on first entry. Voila, it points me to an event. Between that and folks in map chat linking event locations, I am normally done in 10 to 15 minutes and usually I finish each event rather than tag and vanish. I also make a point of doing shout outs in Map to alert others to escorts and timed defends that they’ll have time to get to.
What makes it take so long for those who don’t have completion? I’m not being snide (curse emotionless text), I’m curious and wondering how to help improve the situation.
jia li ng, you persist in demanding that ANet’s version must conform to your own vision of what the word “Revenant” means, even though ANet has persistently altered stereotypes and cliches. They have humans as the fading race, elves as the new curious race, large hulking furred brutes as the premier engineers. Greatswords are ranged lasers, thieves can’t stay stealthed forever (well, unless oddly spec’d), so forth, and so on.
They’ve picked the word “revenant” to use for someone who channels the powers of lost heroes of the past. Not for someone who is himself a lost hero.
Unless ANet provides lore to the contrary, I intend my revenant to be a living breathing person.
Please stop arguing against innovation in concepts just because you are hung up on a word.
It would depend on race, I think. For humans, a necromancer might do very well. Remember, Tyrian necromancy isn’t “evil,” it’s not about reveling in death and decay. It’s about balance, and guiding the fallen where they need to go. It can also be about healing and cleansing.
A human warrior could be a priest of Balthazar, dedicating all his/her combat to Him. A ranger might follow Melandru. My rp main is a thief, and he follows Lyssa, though he’s supremely angry at how his luck has turned and has broken off his worship following LA’s ruin.
Charr refuse to worship gods. Norns are more about the Spirits and for them a Ranger might be the most in tune with the spirits. Sylvari follow the Pale Tree so perhaps a Guardian who is a Valiant Knight of the Pale Tree (I actually have one of those, though she’s currently disgraced for breaking an oath).
Asura .. hmm. To them the most holy thing is to delve into the Eternal Alchemy and understand the connections of all things. I could see Engineer or Elementalist working there.
- Second favourite is Stephen King’s The Stand, which I have read 4 or 5 times
^one of my fav books as well. I re-read every few years before New Years (and then inevitably get the ‘Baby can you dig your man’ lyrics stuck in my head for the month of January
).
I don’t suppose Mario Puzo’s The Godfather is your top fav? (Had to take a shot in the dark instead of immediately going for Harry Potter
)
Check the forum name. I’m betting the fave book is by someone name of Carroll.

We need more public servants. I was a history major, went into law, ended up as a public defender. My dad was a government worker for decades and that’s all I wanted for myself. The private sector is freaking insane. I hope you find a rewarding career that gives you a thrill of happiness and deserved pride every time you tell someone what you do.
I just re-watched the video, and I noticed only the “cape” changes colour in each preview.
Does this mean the armour set we’re paying £8 for cannot be recoloured?
First we can’t mix and match, now we can’t recolour. Whoever it making these decisions needs to be fired, because they’re going to lose you a lot of money if this philosophy continues, ArenaNet.
The video is a render done by a superb data miner who shares what he learns with us after doing a lot of work converting files into images and videos. He picks colors to put on the gear he’s showing us. I would not assume anything from the video colors other than “this is how much time That_Shaman had to spare prettying up the render.”
The cook’s outfit may be a special case as it was originally a multi piece set of town clothes. I’ll have to check if hiding things works on it as you say, though, because I’d love to ditch the sylvari version’s club hand.
The newer outfits are designed in one piece as a mask over the underlying armor. I’m pretty sure it would take them some redesign work and tricky coding changes to implement a shoulder toggle on outfits.
I really wish they would, though. While I do like the fans on the female imperial, and the shadow assassin shoulders work well on my female charr elementalist, for the most part I’ve found the shoulders detract from the overall look. It’s a bit boggling how the artists can do so much so well and then slap these horribly out of place shoulders on outfit after outfit.
I know that pretty much everyone I hear talking about the outfits is displeased with the shoulders and putting up with them for the sake of the rest of the look. Don’t you want your players to be 100% satisfied with what you make, ANet? A shoulder toggle would allow so many more people to be happy with the outfits.
Obligatory cautionary addendum to Danikat’s final point: If you play from a publicly accessible computer, eg a campus library or an internet cafe, your account is greatly at risk of being hacked. Take all necessary precautions to make sure no one else can figure out your password by watching you type it or more subtle chicanery, or access your game while you take a bathroom break.
Hopefully it’s just a toggle-the-channel-on fix. I’ve heard that new accounts are severely restricted in what they can do to interact with other players because that impedes gold sellers making rapid-fire spam accounts.
If that’s the issue, you have to play for a while. How long? They won’t tell us, because the spammers need to be kept in the dark.
I decided to test that comment about “normally.” I have a female charr and I have all the outfits except Crystal Desert as it’s not out yet.
Executioner — unisex
Shadow Assassin — male
Noble Count — male
Witch’s — female
Imperial — female
Arctic Explorer — male
Ancestral — female
Raiment of the Lich — male
Mad King’s — male
Arcane — unisex
Jungle Explorer – male
Cooks — unisex? (I have no male charr to compare and this outfit alters with race)
Ceremonial Plated — male
Bloody Prince — male
Pirate Captain — male
Hexed — female
Fancy Winter — female
So that is 3 unisex, 9 male, and 5 female implementations of outfits on female charrs.
For further discussion you may want to refer to those threads discussing why charr and asura don’t wear boob-window frilly things as a rule.
I’d get so motion sick from that! Then again any first person running about will do that to me. I’ve no issue with others using it, though.
Unless I am trying to watch a video on YouTube and the image is jigging up and down. That would be distressing.
Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]

I think there’s technical software reasons for the 64 number max. Plus one might just not be possible.
Otoh I’d imagine the number of people with 64 slots in use is fairly low. Low enough that those accounts might be offered something else of the same value with their HoT purchase, possibly just the gems, if ANet does intend to provide a slot to everyone.
you can’t even jump with tonics, much less glide.
That depends on the tonic. I can do JP’s as a gift box, for instance.
Stop panicking, guys! This is purely a camera change, as noted by several posters in this thread. There’s no need to start railing at ANet for wrecking the game by adding collision detection.
I don’t get where anyone would think a revenant must be undead. If you die, your soul goes into the Mists, but your body remains behind. Revenants, however, have not died but have gone into the Mists as living beings, taking their body with them and returning with it. Rytlock didn’t die. He took a portal into the Mists, just as we did several times in GW1 (Underworld, FoW, Realm of Torment) and do regularly in WvW. We are ALL living “revenants” (strict definition) in that we have visited the land of death and returned, but we aren’t “Revenants” (profession name) because we haven’t learned the skills that Rytlock learned.
Agreed. Revenants aren’t undead. Just because one common use of the word is for a returned dead person doesn’t mean that’s ANet’s use of it. Saying you don’t want to play the profession because the title makes you think it’s something else is like saying you wouldn’t play an Engineer because you don’t want to work on the Enterprise’s warp engines, how dare they introduce that to Tyria?
I think I have the most fun doing the Whispers missions, as they involve more than “go in and kill some things.” There’s espionage and stealth. Also the “welcome to the Whispers” splash art is the best composed of the three
But with 15 alts, I’ve played the heck out of all three plus the subrace study variations. It all blurs a bit.
Hmm, on capes, what if they did a Marvel’s Thor style cape? It attaches to his shoulders and has a stiff area that curves up and away so the cape hangs down further from his back. The new wings back piece made me think of that.
The problem would be in Charr running, I suppose, as it’s fine to have wings that stick out somewhat stiffly horizontal but that could look quite silly with cloth.
In this context it purely means for the camera. The Ready Up episode, when demonstrating a norn running through a woods pre-and-post-change, talked about how we will be able to use a slider to set our collision detection threshold. At the setting they had, thin trees never triggered a swoop in of the camera and one thicker tree triggered a very short one.
It has nothing to do with characters body blocking each other.
For me it’s not an absolute value but a percentage of my gold on hand. RL I have a “whim level” that fluctuates. That’s how much I’ll spend on something just because I like it at the moment and think I’ll later regret passing it up. In college when I had no income that was maybe fifty cents. While working with solid income it ranged from 200 dollars to a thousand for something really cool.
Similar rules apply to buying stuff in game. If I have under 100 gold I get iffy about spending over 5-10 gold on any one thing. The one time I got over 400 gold I quickly spent over 100 of that on various things and continued willing to splurge until I was back below 200 again. I won’t spend gems on gold as a rule, except for super special occasions or for small amounts to flesh out a purchase. So my gold-in-hand determines my whim level.
So how much will I spend on a skin? Not so much that I feel I spent an enormous amount of my reserves.
And sometimes if it’s a really nice skin, the “will I regret missing it later” kicks in and my spending gets more generous.
Reminder, the Ready Up is in less than 10 minutes.
I get a huge sense of reward. There’s community, there’s a beautiful world, there’s RP plots, and every now and then the game makes me drop my jaw, as in Omadd’s Machine and Glint’s Lair in recent memory. There’s an active sense of engagement in game play thanks to the combat system (if you spam 1 you’re doing it wrong, though I expect someone to retort that’s all that’s needed). Every now and then I unlock a new skin or learn to make a new thing. I can hunt down achievements — still saving up Vexxa’s Lab for when I want to finish up all the JP’s other than in WvW — I can enjoy a good map chat, I can do a cycle of Silverwastes to see a zone progressing and to feel that I’m part of a team.
Loot? Meh. My inventory is far too full to want to have to shoehorn in more stuff.
Which I suppose is your point, the loot is copious but not special unless you get a super rare drop. It’s just where one’s priorities lie. Mine lie in having fun, not in getting leet gear.
