Obviously an FT Engi has to choose between 2 of those 3 final traits and cannot have all of them, but the damage difference between an untraited/traited FT and an untraited/traited 1H Sword is really staggering. You’re not witnessing the whole picture.

Additionally, this is a ridiculous comparison because a Guardian Sword is a single-target attack, and FT isn’t. FT is a weapon of mass-destruction. It is simply not designed to be a one-on-one equal. It spreads the love around. You don’t measure it against single targets. You measure it against multiple close-range targets.

This is why theorycrafting falls on its face. It can’t figure out that you can’t stick every weapon/attack under a microscope in a 1:1 rating and figure out what’s best because not every attack is designed for 1:1. This is why threads like this detract from and degrade the game. Failing to employ an attack the way it was designed to be used can lead to interesting and novel uses, but most of the time it just leads to small-minded, narrow interpretations of the results that are neither accurate, nor do they reflect the true value of the attack.

Final Analysis of the FT: If you don’t like it, don’t use it. If you do like it, or do want to use it, learn how to use it right. The only time you should be attacking one target is when there is only one target to attack. In WvW roaming, stick with your pack. FT is a great boon to groups.

Oh, and to anyone roaming with a Flamegineer, don’t pull the mobs out of the flame jet. God, it’s annoying to find that sweet spot and then have some stupid Guardian or Warrior train the mobs around like a moon-brain.

He’s a known quantity. He’s easy to read, subtle as a brick through a window, and about as sneaky as a level 1 Thief. I can trust him to go with the highest bidder.

She’s too good. She’s unpredictable, has someone pulling her strings, and owes too many people favors. She’s unfortunately bad at hiding her problems. I don’t trust her.

Evon is perfect for the Council. No surprises there. It comes down to personalities. She’s just not trustworthy to me.

in Lore

Drakkon.4782

Any Asura who doesn’t vote for Kiel is either dumber than a bookah or an inquest trying to cover something up

Far be it for me to argue with such powerful logic as my esteemed colleague has just displayed, but I believe there is a third (fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, etc, etc, etc) option for voting for Evon as an Asura. He’s greedy and easy to both manipulate and control. While this cuts for the Inquest, it also cuts for the Order of Whispers, and can cut for anyone who wants a Councillor who can literally be bought. When someone is only out for money, one always knows where his loyalties lie. As a Canthan pirate once told me when I asked where his loyalties lay, “With the highest bidder.” I pointed out I had the only viable mode of transportation at the time, to which he replied, “That makes you the highest bidder.”

Simple economics, dear menials. In the bookah world, money talks.

my belief is that this build is not efficient and that the videos posted by the author clearly illustrate that fact.

Perhaps not, but I think that the most important question is being overlooked in this race to out theorycraft one another: Is it fun to play? One can lose repeatedly at the game in any aspect and still have fun, and if the build it fun to play, then it’s a good build. If it is also efficient or successful, those are added bonuses, but if it isn’t fun, why bother doing it?

I’m sorry, do you actually develop and test for Arenanet? No? Then I don’t care about how many people have to work around to make a functional option. I want a better flamethrower. One that actually strikes fear in opponents. Not one that is mildly annoying and more convoluted to use than a Atom Smasher.

And that has nothing to do with the discussion. You don’t know what you’re doing, and those of us who do have stated that the FT is fine. The Engineer isn’t easymode. It isn’t faceroll. You have to know what you’re doing. You have to have some level of skill. And you have to have a sense of timing.

I don’t want to one-button everything to death. I play Engineer because that’s perfect. I have to agree with a previous commenter, Engineer isn’t for you. You don’t have the patience to do it right.

Regardless my opinion still is valid.

No. You are entitled to your opinion, which is really the only thing anyone is actually entitled to, but it doesn’t mean that it’s valid. Your opinion is poorly formed, logically flawed, you are resistant to help, and you are just trying to make excuses to show that one of the coolest aspects of the Engineer is bad and shouldn’t be as it is.

While FT needs some perking, it isn’t bad. Just because you don’t know how to properly use it doesn’t mean it’s broken. It means you’re bad at playing it and need to learn how to play. FT does good damage, but it isn’t great against single targets. It isn’t a single target weapon. It’s designed to be group support, hitting everything in a cone in front of it for the same damage, blanketing everything in even death.

Buttons #3 and #2 are supposed to be used, in that order, to handle mobs that are doing too much damage while you’re laying down suppression fire. Blow them back, then hit them with Napalm. It’s a 1-2 punch.

Button #4 is for stationary targets who don’t move while DPSing, like mobs with ranged, or stupid bunker casters. Flame wall is fun. Use it well.

Of all of them, #5 is the one I use the least, because I’ve spent too much time fighting Dredge, who are immune to Blind. However, the debuff from the Blind Condition should not be discounted in PvP/WvW.

Just because you can’t employ it properly doesn’t mean that it’s broken, flawed, or in need of being removed. Your opinion is your own, you’re entitled to have it, but it isn’t valid, it isn’t fact, and it, obviously, isn’t welcome. When you learn to play your class, learn to take advise, and learn to not troll, your points will carry more weight.

Now, please stop trying to act like you know what you’re doing. We’ve been patient with you. Go away.

I doubt that any of the lesser races could truly understand the magnificence of the science behind the Thaumanova Reactor. Personally, I’d put my support behind the black lion. His motivations and goals are easy to understand. Any progeny could manipulate him properly. I’d prefer to have someone on the Lion’s Arch council that we can control over one who sympathizes with us. Sympathy can twist in the right wind, and we all know how well the Inquest can capitalize on such things. Greed is easier to work with, and far easier to mollify. Bookah corruption is a boon we can use to our advantage.

If you’re going to troll, at least spell our name right..

Trolls are inferior lifeforms. It is neither logical, nor professional, to expect any degree of higher intelligence from them. Like Ettins, they are barely capable of speech, let alone proper grammar while writing. If they manage to spell a word correctly, you should consider them to be a genius among their peers. But it is laughable to expect a troll to spell everything correctly, or to get even the most simple of words, like the name of our race, correct at any given time.

Hmm… Perhaps if we hybridized them with the skritt and allowed them to congregate in large numbers… No, that would be dangerous and reckless for the research team. Perhaps I should simply write that proposal up, hype it among my peers, and allow the Inquest to steal it so they shoulder the burden of risk…

Engineer Flamethrower 2

This isn’t a problem with just FT2. Turrets also sometimes fall into the ground when deployed (ground-targetted). I’ve had to destroy my rocket and rifle turrets on numerous occasions when not on specifically “Ground” because they just fall into the terrain and don’t fire at the targets, or hit the inside of the terrain instead. I think this has something to do with the “jumping puzzle” mechanics where certain ground types are have an assignable “slipperiness”, and anyhting other than solid ground makes them permeable to any object, causing it to fall through. It’s very annoying with the turrets, but I see it a lot (in fact almost all the time) with FT2.

Community's Engineer Shout-out: Turrets

in Engineer

Posted by: Drakkon.4782

Drakkon.4782

To counter the god-mode of the Turrets is that they only stay online for like 1 minute. This way you can’t spam them. And they are actually used for something.

One minute is 30 seconds too long for indestructible predator drones. Even the Asura racial elite golems (which are basically what walking turrets are) don’t last longer (40 seconds) than that. Either drop the duration down to 30 seconds, or buff all the other summons’ durations across the board (maybe doubling the golems’ duration to a minute and a quarter, and others like the Silvari wolf to a minute and a half).

Golem is a racial skill, and therefore is supposed to be inferior to all normal skills. 40 seconds to the normals 1 minute is about right.

Trouble with Flamethrower Recently

in Engineer

Posted by: Drakkon.4782

Drakkon.4782

This happens most often when you’re tossing turrets or other skills. It’s easy to restore tracking by hitting 1 again. Make sure it’s after the cycle ends (even if you have to manually end it by hitting ESC). It should pick up tracking after that until you toss more turrets. Coincidentally, this also restores turret tracking, too.

Yes, this is only a workaround, and isn’t a fix. ANet needs to get on this, as there are a lot of us Flamegineers out there. It’s very annoying.

FT is good, clean fun. It does mad DPS to multiple targets, just not the best of the highest to single targets. It’s a support weapon, not a direct burst weapon. It’s made for taking on groups of low health mobs, while handling untargeted adds on bosses. Tagging mobs indeed. As if tagging meant anything in this game. You get your own rights to loot off mobs, and you can’t steal rights off of others. Bad Troll.

Well, whatever. A war between races would be cool though.
It probably would be between Asuras and Charrs, right? They are the ones looking like empires.
Higher technology vs Lower technology, but made by people who know how to kill. (Charrs don’t have high technology compared to the Asura, but they know better than them how to make things work best with what they have).
That would be interesting.

Actually, technologically speaking, the lowest tech race are the Norn. That’s followed by the Humans, then the Sylvari, then the Charr and finally we Asura. Despite being lumbering dullards, the Charr are fantastic Engineers. The only difference between their technology and ours is a gross lack of finesse and style. Their technology looks, acts, and, sadly, is almost completely functional, instead of being polished and complete like a proper Asuran gizmo.

Humans and Norn are simply practical engineers. They meet whatever goal they need and stop innovating. They have no drive, nor passion, for invention, and no soul for innovating. They simply overcome whatever problem they have and then stop, until they find another problem. Rinse, repeat, as they say.

I place the Sylvari in the middle because their technology is organic, living. I have not found time in my busy schedule of dealing with the Dragon problem to investigate their technology, nor it’s source, the Pale Tree. I’m certain if I could run a few non-invasive tests on her I would be able to unlock the mechanics behind her biological technology, and then I could replicate it under controlled conditions.

INSPIRATION! The Heartwood are biological Golems! I’ll have to capture one, or at least large enough pieces of one and get them back into my lab. Just imagine and entire forest of living golems to fight the Dragons. I’m going to be so famous people will forget about Snaff!

Why don't we have an LFG tool yet?

I’ve been looking into running more dungeons and group content, and I’m in a small guild (most of the people who WERE in the guild have stopped connecting). SO I went looking for an LFG Tool only to discover there isn’t one. But there is a site: GW2LFG.Com. Why is there an external site and not a game-integrated tool? It seems poorly thought out when there is obviously a demand for it.

Problem with the Two-Week Release Schedule

in Living World

Posted by: Drakkon.4782

Drakkon.4782

I’ve given if a couple cycles and I can now firmly say that I have a problem with the two-week cycle. It’s too fast. No one is out in the world anymore, running the Group Events, securing the Temples, etc. Obviously, I’m NOT discussing the sPvP and WvW segments. This is strictly about PvE, so please confine any comments to that arena.

This problem seems to be a problem mainly for alts, new players, and people who are completing the map to 100%. I was in Orr last week, and there were 4-6 of us in the zone, total. There couldn’t have been more than 20 people in all three of the zones on Orr. And nothing in Orr is really soloable, because the normal mobs re-pop so fast, the mob density is quite high, and most of the Veterans pat through areas where their two adds aren’t the only ones you’ll have to take on. So soloing isn’t an option, and for those of us in small guilds, who just like to solo, or are taking ANet up on the promise that the game was completely soloable, that’s a problem.

Yes, one could join a larger guild, but that doesn’t fix the problem, it just changes the situation so that the parameters are different. It’s not the same thing.

Now, how is this tied to the sped up release schedule? Well, everyone heads to the new zones to do the content as fast as possible, and they stay there. This is problematic, because people would prefer to get the new achievements, particularly now that they have little bonuses tied to them. This is unfair. The extra week would help people by putting a buffer in that would prompt players who had completed the content in the Living World story to go back into the world, and others who could hold off until later would be able to be int eh world until they found more time to devote to the new stuff.

But two weeks isn’t enough time to get bored with the new content, and it isn’t long enough for some of us to digest it all. That’s a problem. All of it is related.

Just my thoughts.

Firearms: Fireforged Trigger, Juggernaut, Napalm Specialist
Inventions: Metal Plating, Autotool Installation, Rifled Turret Barrels
Tools: Deployable Turrets

I did kinda think that was all self-explanatory. They’re pretty much the only skills that benefit flamethrowers and/or turrets in those lines at those levels. Nope, looking over them again on the GW2 Wiki, they’re literally the only ones that benefit Turrets or Flamethrowers in those lines. Hope that helps.

Ah, you don’t know how to read builds. The build is top down, so 0 in the first row, 30 in the next, and so forth. Since you will get a reset when you buy the next book to open the next level of traits, you can reset it then. Since you’re into Elixirs, don’t bother changing it until you buy your next book. Leveling builds aren’t all that important, since the game plays well, so long as you keep your gear at your level. If things get too tough, go back and play the other low levels that you bypassed to get other gear or items that will improve your play.

Once you can buy the next book, do so and reset your traits to that. Remember, the bonus traits can be changed when you’re not in combat, so only the point allocations are important. I’ve selected the bonuses that benefit either turrets or the flamethrower directly.

I allocated my points in 5 point chunks as I leveled, not 10. Open one bonus, the get the next set. But that’s just my way of doing things. While leveling I cleared a zone a day to 100%, and that gained me about 3-4 levels. Do the events to maximize both karma and XP gains. You could get 5 levels or more if the zone is active with non-Champ events. You can easily solo Veterans, so long as they don’t do KD or stun.

Again, just my thoughts.

Engineers don't use rifles

Its not supposed to be a realistic. That doesn’t mean calling a sword a mace is right anymore than a blunderbuss is a rifle.

I know, but “rifle” is just something everyone knows. For example, if I would found in game a weapon called blunderbuss, I’d have to google what the heck is it? While “rifle” is something everyone understand. Rifle=two handed gun. Simple and everyone knows what it is. I mean swords are not siply swords to. there are lots of sword types and some of them can beraly be called swords, but still, calling, for example, a rapier a sword is an easy way to name it, because not everyone are even familiar with the “rapier” word.

Additional fun fact: There is no such thing as a Rifle. Rifling is the process of putting a grooved etching inside the barrel of a longarm, twisted or otherwise. The spiral grooves were originally designed to make the gun easier to clean. It was a fluke that it also caused bullets to spin, making them fly further and straighter.

I wish more gaming companies understood the terms they blithely toss around. Another game I play calls their Heavy Infantry from the Industrial Period “Howitzers”. WHAT?! Anyway, the more you know.

Because most people don’t know that “Pistol” describes any firearm that is typically used one-handed. The term for firearms used typically with two hands is “Longarm”, thus the phrase “Longarm of the Law”, which was usually a Remington. “Shotgun” originally started because the guy in the seat next to the stagecoach driver carried a shotgun in case of Indian or Outlaw attack.

0/30/30/0/10 works so well. I’m not a fan of Elixirs because they work better in the Kit. Use Turrets, ground-targetted, to provide additional DPS and support. Supply Drop once you get your Elites will provide a stun, bandages (if the Healing Turret goes down) and additional turrets for overkill/CC. Place your manually dropped turrets around your target so that they aren’t able to be taken out in one AOE. Burn Supply Drop on Veterans or huge pulls. Survivability is extremely good. You can be overwhelmed by re-pop in later zones, but if you play is smart (which I don’t always do), you can limit the damage.

Remember that Rocket Turret has huge health and huge damage, but also a huge CD before you can drop it again. Kepp that in mind when you’re blowing/picking it up. Reducing CDs is a good thing. Health and Rifle Turret are fairly short duration CDs, so they won’t produce such a problem. Net Turret isn’t usually as helpful.

Juggernaut will add health, armor and might. You can tank a bit of damage, but you will still want to move around when you’re not trying to keep your target in the flamewall.

Anyway, that’s my build and experiences. It’s a good build for levelling, and has served me well in Orr. I’ve seen more than a few Flamegineers using similar builds.

Charrzooka-Disapointed?

Sadly, Racials are supposed to be inferior to class Elites. Pathetic design decision, since they could be JUST AS GOOD without being OP, but hey, why let racial flavor be enjoyable. I gave up on Charrzooka, Warband, and most of the other racials because they suck compared to other elites, and as I have them all now, why bother slotting anything subpar.

ANET: RACIALS WERE A WASTE OF TIME. MAKING THEM SUCK MEANS YOU WASTED MONEY MAKING THEM.

Basic rule of game design, if no one uses an aspect of your game, it isn’t worth putting in. If you intentionally make an aspect of your game inferior to others, it isn’t worth programming. Theorycrafters will see to that. Designing inferiority is a waste of money.
