Light Armor Again... Yup

When I think of armor being light armor, I think of robes, cloaks, hoods, pants, vests, skirts, things made out of cloth basically. I think this sums up pretty much all of the light armor choices in GW2. You can only do so much with light armor options. I have a Necro and an Ele and both of them look completely different from each other, so I don’t necessarily agree that the light armor choices aren’t varied. I think they vary just fine for the light armor parameters they have to work with.

I do use Sylvari cultural for my Ele’s light armor, though, which looks awesome. Necro uses a mix of Charr cultural, karma armor, and dungeon armor.

You really have to be creative when picking skins.

That greatly increase your out of combat speed and auto-dismount in combat.

As a compromise. All the waypoints in Tyria would be removed. Apart from the major cities.

In effect helping bring every one into a level playing field in being able to travel quickly whilst still maintaining some immersion to the game.

Seeing as Guild Wars 1 only had way points at outposts. It would also make death more undesirable (waypoint back to major cities) and would in effect promote a community.

Would people find this desirable?

I didn’t think travel speed was something that needed a level playing field. Even so, the fact everyone has access to the same WPs already has it on an even playing field. I guess you’re saying that people who are so poor they can’t afford to WP aren’t on an even playing field, but holy crap what % of people can’t afford to WP? GW2 pretty much throws gold at you these days if you do any kind of regular dungeon running.

What I think would be fair for the poor folks (seriously learn some money management, how will you make it in the real world if you can’t make imaginary finances work), would be if every zone had one free WP. The main outpost/camp of that zone. At the very least then a poor person could make it to the zone and then run the rest of the way. The cost to travel to the other WPs in the zone is the cost of convenience.

Disagree about rallying, rallying ruins PVP.

It absolutely does not ruin PvP, but it would certainly be improved without it. Downed state is fine IMO, you just shouldn’t be allowed to rally. You should be forced to have a teammate revive you or revive on your own.

The reason I say it doesn’t ruin PvP is because I play PvP every day and have a blast doing it. It would be quite the claim to say it ruined PvP, when really all it does is make things slightly more annoying.

I think you’ve missed the point. It is not about g/AP. But it’s just a lazy achievement. It is unrelated to the theme and you don’t get the gold from wintersday. If it’s limited to sweaters, no matter it’s 3g worth or even ridiculous amount, I would have no problem with that. But 3 pure gold? It’s lazy work from the developer for lazy players.

And I think everyone who thinks its lazy missed the point of that achievement entirely. Christmas time is a time of giving. The achievement is supposed to be about donating your hard-earned gold (a la in real life donating to a charity—which I’m pretty sure 95% of the people here do not do). It isn’t a lazy achievement, it is a very appropriate achievement for the Holiday it is representing. You should be rewarded for donating. I get that it is an imaginary donation, but the idea is sound and maybe, just maybe, being able to give up 3g of imaginary currency without whining like giant babies will help to forge better human beings in the real world. Judging from some of the responses in this thread, however, I’m thinking that stingy a**holes are who play this game mostly. Get in the effing Xmas spirit, jeez.

Just FYI as I didn’t really read any comments specifically mentioning this:

The gusts of wind come from the giant snowmen. There are two. One at the Candy Cane bridge after the exploding presents, and one at the halfway mark of the winding, giant ball path (right at the giant peppermint safe spot). They aren’t random as far as I’ve seen and more on a timer. Wait for the wind to blow then go immediately and you will be fine. Hope that helps!

Guild wars 2 IS alt friendly

please back off your statement shows you don’t understand yea you can go kill it with each character big whoops in gw1 you could go kill any boss you wanted with all of your character oh and guess what PERMANENT not 4 weeks. oh and the hybrid if it was a meta achievement you only got that once gw1 you got it each and every single time not just the first time and the rest was just boss chest drop for killing it. thank you

So your response is basically: shut up, GW1 did it a different way. (don’t tell anyone, but how GW1 did things means absolutely nothing to me, I didn’t play GW1. Compared to every MMO I’ve ever played, this game is as alt-friendly as it gets). Sounds like GW1 would score an A+ in alt-friendliness, and GW2 would score an A, yet talking to you guys it sounds like would give GW2 an F in alt-friendliness because it isn’t exactly how GW1 was.

Apparently to many people if they can’t get 8x (or however many alts you have) the rewards then the game isn’t alt friendly. The ease that alts can participate and contribute in all content is what makes it alt-friendly. Not whether or not all of your characters can get the meta.

For example, in DCUO, each character has completely separate everything. Money is separate, achievements are separate, everything is specific to each character. That is an alt-unfriendly game. Being able to farm karma on one character and then log into my level 10 character and spend all that karma = alt-friendly. Or laurels, or money, or tokens, you take your pick, it’s all alt-friendly. Labeling the game not alt-friendly because the meta only rewards your account and not each character is so effing stupid. You should be ashamed of yourself.

And it did say “fractal fortnight.

As I mentioned in another thread. That word isn’t part of the average American’s vocabulary. :o

If people don’t know what a fortnight is then they aren’t old enough to be playing this game… that’s like 2nd grade stuff there.

Because only people whose first language is english play this game.

Boss week lasted one month, if I remember correctly… –

If you don’t understand a word, look it up… there’s no excuse for seeing “fortnight”, realizing you don’t know what that even means, doing nothing about it, and then complaining you weren’t warned that LS event was only up for 2-weeks. Fortnight means two weeks. 5secs on Google could have told them that.

The current LS system makes this the MOST Alt-unfriendly game I know of. Nothing is really repeatable on many alts given the time gating and account based achievement system.

One small example. In GW1 I was able to do WIK 14 times, for the same reward, on all characters. The “meta” reward was not by account, but by character. The content was/is permanent, and available to be played eventually by any new character created.

Permanent content is alt-friendly. Temporary is not, and you can’t spin it any other way.

I assume you mean the achievements and not the content, because I completed the most recent LS content on every one of my alts. They all went up the Nightmare tower and killed the Hybrid. So how is that unfriendly again? Because I can’t replay it? That has nothing to do with alt-friendliness. If you had one character you still wouldn’t be able to replay it.

I guess it is alt-unfriendly if you have 12+ alts. But with 8 characters I was easily about to get them all to kill hybrid before the 4 weeks was over…. in fact 4 of the characters I did on the same day. So, uh………yea….I guess you can spin it another way.

And the character you create next week? Good luck. And that is the difference. All alts.. not current alts. The freedom and ability to play added permanent content as you create and level alts over the life of a game.

So.. what did you do with the 8 meta rewards…. oh, thats right.. you didn’t get 8. You got one. How did sharing the reward out among 8 characters go for you?

Ok now we’re talking about temporary versus permanent content and not alt-friendliness. Anet is trying a new paradigm with this temporary content. It will clearly be different than other games that only do permanent. I happen to like the temporary stuff because it actually feels like the game is evolving. Other people don’t. I don’t really care about the rewards, and more often than not they end up in my bank doing nothing. I did it for the content, not the rewards. Also the experience, because it was pretty decent experience in that tower to level up.

Plus I’m already on the record saying I support account bound items over soul bound. Which sounds like it would solve a lot of your issues. Except your disapproval of temporary content. But that’s a separate discussion. It’s temporary. New alts, existing alts, main character, none of them can repeat it. You can’t make the argument that temp content isn’t alt friendly because you can’t repeat it once its gone, that’s true for every character, alt or not. That’s the whole point of temporary content. But all of the content can be experienced by all of your alts while it is available. I personally would prefer meta reward skins be put into the achievement skins category as most seem to as well.

The fact that my level 26 character was able to do the LS at all is alt friendly. The fact he could progress the achievements for my account is alt-friendly. The fact he can gather key pieces and access the chest (or give the key pieces to another one of my characters) is alt-friendly. The fact that my main or my alts can’t access the Nightmare tower anymore? Has nothing to do with alt-friendliness.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It sounds like the OP’s argument is coming from the position of someone who spends hours a day playing 7 days a week.

What about the players who only log maybe 2-3hrs a night 3-4 days a week? Alt friendly? Hardly.

Where do you think exactly the vast majority of the player base sits? Those that log 30-40hrs a week, or those that log maybe 5-10? This has nothing to do with entitlement, and everything to do with reality. In reality, this game is not Alt friendly.

You described my playing habits almost perfectly. About 10hrs/week, maybe 15/week if I feel like getting crazy on the weekends. I still find this game to be the most alt friendly of any MMO I’ve ever played. Ever. I did not play GW1 and heard it was alt-friendlier, but come on. The only thing that would make it friendlier would be account bound instead of soul bound items, and apparently making laurels acquirable per character. That’s it.

We’re literally arguing over a game that is 95% alt friendly and saying it isn’t alt-friendly at all because it isn’t 100% alt friendly.

I hardly have anyone really stop and wave for me, but lately I’ve been getting the kittens especially in EB.

Its you get some and give some. You take what you given and you give back usually in bigger numbers of pain if you can. You live with it and move on. It took me six tries to get the krait skill point in EB. As same zerg (usually BG or SOS) would kill all on sight. Its not all kittens and rainbows as you say. There are gankers, and they usually hang in the big zergs, not solo. The OP is right in a way, but its not every single player in GW 2 that WVW.

If only we could talk to them (even with /me). “Hi I’m just mapping please let me live and run on by.” soon enough: “AGGGGH! MY SPLEEN AND INTESTINES ARE HANGING OUT! I”M DYING! NOOOO!" Yeah that feature might not work now that I think of it.

Other method I thought of (and used on my ele for her 100%) is to make a one man guild called Only a Mapper [MAP] and see how far that gets you. You may become a free kill red flag to everyone!

Yea, I don’t know if we could call someone a ganker if they are hanging with the zerg. I think common sense should prevail that if you are solo and you see the zerg coming. You should, you know, run, and junk.

It’s not all kittens and rainbows, no. But it’s not even close to how OP is picturing it.

There are days where I literally would kill for someone to, uh, kill. Generally this is during very non-peak hours.

If you are afraid to die, then just look at the map and avoid any crossed swords. This goes for Contested towers/keeps/camps as well. It’s really that simple. Most of the fighting takes place at those locations. Or let’s say one of the towers was just capped by an enemy force, you can probably assume that group will move on to an adjacent camp or back to defend something of theirs that is being attacked.

Blackgate has great communication. They have scouts watching where the zerg is. Just avoid the areas they are calling out in /map/team. OP really is just being stubborn.

Also, I believe the enemy can see your text in /say. If I was chasing someone down to kill them and they started begging for their lives, I would probably stop because that would be RP gold and hilarious. I’m going to try it sometime lol. “Please no! I have a family! I just need to deliver these eggs to the supply camp so I can be paid and have a real Christmas this year!!” “NOOOOO!” “Think of the kiiiiiiiddddssss!!!”

I am honestly amazed that so many are trying to help get finished with the WvW part of the achievement and he is ignoring that fact. It’s part of the achievement. Lamenting that fact will not change it. I’m not a WvW player either, but I knew getting these places was part of getting my legendary, so I just sucked it up and did it. Complaining would not have helped me.

It really does make my head hurt when I see his comments now. I’m almost suspecting he’s doing this on purpose. I don’t know what WvW he’s experienced, but a free for all? Really? It’s not a free for all. It’s your server against two other servers.

I think he honestly imagines WvWvW is some giant arena where everyone is a red name and everyone is constantly killing each other and they stand on POIs just waiting for nubs to come by so they can gank them. It’s not like that. Not like that in the slightest. There is absolutely no trolling (except possibly in the JP but that’s a separate instance completely now and isn’t needed for the 100% completion). Especially on a server like Blackgate and those that would be up against them. Those servers, which I imagine is like Fort Aspenwood (which I’m on and #1 Silver league wooo), are more interested in actual WvW strategy and not trolling some carebear nervously trying to explore the zone.

More often than not when I see a solo player running and he sees me, we typically just ignore each other, maybe wave in passing. People are a lot more respectable than you know. If you are alone and see a group of enemies, then just run away from them, or you know, be OK with dying in a game that has very little death penalty.

Clearly OP has had some bad experiences in other games’ PvP. GW2 doesnt work like that. You don’t have twinks, you don’t have gankers, it’s just plain fun. And safe.

I feel that GW1 was a lot more alt friendly, but that is just me.

I didn’t play GW1, did they do account bound only items instead of soulbound?

GW1 had a mixed mechanic. Armor was soulbound to the character, but it was super, super cheap to get BiS gear. Once you had level 20 armor, you were done. The quest turned into a quest of not looking like a scrub.

For weapons they had something called customization. Weapons can be passed from one character to the next however customizing the weapon to a character would “soulbind” it to said character, and that weapon would do an additional 20% damage. 20% extra damage was the price of making the weapon soulbound. IN GW2 is simply a penalty.

Well, aside from BiS being super easy to get as of today, it actually sounds pretty close to what GW2 has going on. That customization thing sounds like a form “Soulbound on Use”.

Although I don’t understand quite what you mean. The soulbound weapons did 20% more damage, but 20% damage was also the price of making it soulbound? Am I reading that wrong.

Why do you continue to limit what we can do in character creation, where we establish the personality of our characters more than anywhere else?

Yesterday these faces didn’t exist and somehow people were able to create characters with the personalities they wanted. I’m not sure how, though, because clearly adding these new faces to the gem store makes it impossible for people to do the things they had no trouble doing 24hrs prior. I can’t even get through three face choices before falling apart, wondering just which options I don’t have here in front of me, the what-ifs swirling in my head: maybe there’s one with a nose ring, maybe there’s one with a lazy eye, or one with a unibrow! Yea honestly I think it’s kinda dumb. It’s not like PvE POIs are randomly filled with 30 champions waiting to block you; most of PvE outside of group events is just your own failings as a player if you can’t get it. And even in those cases you can guest. I also just don’t think PvE should be in WvW. I mean how many WvW players complain about that Living Story garbage in the maps? It adds nothing, and you don’t really explore anything in WvW anyways— you have the whole map revealed already.

Of course, this is coming from someone with all 4 maps done and thought it was a waste of time. On the other hand, the only zones that I am missing from 100% map completion (at 87 on the highest character) are all 1-15/15-25 zones which I refuse to do because it’s so friggin boring.

But those are the easiest zones! You can knock em out easy! Just do your dailies in those zones, it will fly by, trust me.

GW2 is alt friendly. What you are describing is a feature in pretty much every MMO. It’s par for the course. Sure I’m totally for making everything account bound rather than soulbound, but the fact it isn’t like that doesn’t mean the game isn’t alt friendly. It just means they went with the standard feature on that. The game doesn’t have have complete interchangeability with everything and all characters to be considered alt friendly. That’s just silly.

For the record I find GW2 to be VERY alt friendly. The most alt friendly game I’ve ever played in my life. And now moreso with FoTM level combine and WvW level combine. The only thing that would make it better would be account bound gear and not soulbound. It generally does suck that my Warrior can’t wear the full Exotic set I have sitting in my bank because it is soulbound to my Guardian. They’re like best friends and are the same size, they totally don’t mind sharing armor. Breaks my RP immersion. ANET FIX

It’s funny, I’m sure I read an Anet dev post a while back saying they do not like the idea of ‘one hit kill’ skills in their game ‘because that’s not fun’. I guess they got round that by making it ‘almost one hit kill’?

I don’t care if it’s easy to dodge/block/blind or whatever. No profession should have access to a skill that powerful for such little effort and so frequently.

How is it little effort? Your intended target has to be literally brain dead to be hit by it. Anyone with eyes can see the attack coming, if you get hit by it you deserve to be one-shot or close to it. If you’re attacking a tower in WvW and there’s even a slight chance the enemy might use the skill, here’s a tip: STOP STANDING IN ONE PLACE FOR LIKE FOREVER.

Saying Killshot is OP is like saying Ganondorf’s B attack is OP. You have every opportunity to avoid it. If it lands, it’s your own fault.

@Devata

Temporary content does count. If you play regularly you wouldn’t have a problem. If you want to be completionist and collect everything but you don’t want to have to play the game regularly and actually miss some LS events, that’s on you, not the game. LS rewards people who play consistently by perpetuating an evolving world and rewarding you for participating. If you didn’t play during the 4 weeks X LS event was going on, too bad you missed out. It’s fair. If you don’t play you don’t get the rewards. If you do play you do get the rewards. I’ve never bought any minis and my collectibles tab is filled with LS minis. I didn’t even farm them, I just played the LS normally and got them.

Your “do it now or never get it” argument is weak. It’s more like “do it now sometime in the next 4 weeks or never get it”. They’ve given plenty of time to complete the LS achievements. If you’ve decided that you won’t even bother simply because there is a time limit (4 weeks), then that’s a choice you’ve made. It isn’t difficult to complete the achievements within that time. It’s not difficult at all, even if you play 1hr/day. You just have to actually do it. You can’t just see that the LS is going on for 4 weeks, completely ignore it, and then complain you weren’t able to get any of the rewards, and that temporary content sucks. Even the most recent LS achievements took 3 run throughs of that tower to complete pretty much everything for the meta. If you can’t be bothered to run through the tower 3 times within a 1 month period, then you don’t deserve any of the rewards in the first place.

and I would only have ONE team member which would be my wife.

So my GF, who absolutely hates PvP, gets anxiety from it, has a computer that literally will freeze if more than 20 people are on the screen at any given time has completed the WvW exploration. You really have no excuse.

If you’ve been inside WvW you wouldn’t be saying the things you are saying. You portal in and you’re in a safe area, like a capitol city. You take a look on map for what towers/camps are in your server’s control. You run there (usually without any encounters) and get the POI. Start with everything that your server owns because once you get there, if its a tower, you can enter it and be completely safe from attack.

I can’t promise there won’t be times you will encounter enemies, but they don’t bully. They are groups of enemies roaming around trying to capture your stuff and they will engage you if they see you. You have to learn to be OK with dying. There are no penalties to dying in this game. If you and your wife are running somewhere and see some enemies either a) turn and run to the nearest tower b) find other allies near you and hang with them or c) run past them as fast as you can and suicide on the POI you need. You just need completion after all if that’s what you’re after.

It really is a lot easier than it seems. If your wife is anything like my GF she will be scared at first but the first time she killed someone she honestly thought it was fun. We found 2 others that were running to where we were going and came across two enemy players. Was 4v2 so it was an easy fight. She was absolutely thrilled. Even just auto-attacking helped in that fight and she felt she contributed. Then we kept moving on to the next spot.

When we did it we started at the far North camp and went counter clock-wise until we finished everything. If it’s your server’s BL it will be especially safe/easy. When you venture into enemy borderlands it slows down a bit since you can’t cap towers they own so don’t even bother.

My suggestion: Hit “B”, see what color your server is. Go to your border lands and cap everything you can. Whatever you aren’t able to (if enemy controls something) just leave and come back later to see if we’ve recapped. Possession changes constantly in WvW so waiting and hour and checking back will likely be all you need. Once you finish that entire BL hit up Eternal Battlegrounds. Each server controls 1/3 of the map. Explore everything you possibly can that you own. When that is done, just wait until the match up changes (not sure on the time frame for this to be honest, I’m under the impression its weekly). Hit “B” see what color you are. If you are the same as the previous week then don’t even bother. If you are a different color, hop into your borderland, hit everything you own, if you can’t, leave, wait, come back and see if possession has changed. When you finish that BL, hit up Eternal Battlegrounds and do the 1/3 of the map you have access to. Then wait until server match-up again to see if you switched colors to the last one you need. That’s pretty much it.

Oh and also, if you enter Eternal Battlegrounds and your server has control of the center (Stonemist Castle) get the heck over there and explore everything. That area changes hands constantly so if you have control best take advantage.

You won’t get ganked, you won’t be bullied. You can see an enemy group coming from pretty far off. Simply avoid them. A zerg isn’t going to chase down 2 people that are 2000 yards out of the way of the direction they are heading. They just won’t.

Moreover, as already revealed, there is almost no one there who does not hate temporary things.

As a regular player who has played every LS event, I gotta say I love temporary content. If you are a flaky player who gets on once every other month, sure you might have a problem, but for regular players it’s pretty sweet to get exclusive skins and experience content that you can think back on. You guys remember when the Molten Alliance attacked? Yea, good times…good times…

Temporary content irks non-regulars. Everyone* else either doesn’t really care or likes it.

I’ve never seen a killshot warrior in wvw, come to think of it I hardly see any warriors with a rifle. If it was so kitten OP, surely we would see more of them?

Yea, I’ve never seen a rifle warrior, nor have I ever been killed by one. I think OP was fighting in a zerg, some warrior on top of a tower wall had him targetted, OP was maybe casting meteor shower or fighting some other guy and got popped by KS like a sitting duck without even realizing it. That doesn’t make the skill OP. It makes it a viable defense skill. In any other situation that dude would be destroyed. I would love to come across a rifle warrior running solo in WvW. For the lolz.

Bored of leveling.

To me, it’s a grind because I’ve done it before. Sure, the Necromancer was fun at first, but that basically wore off sometime between level 20 and 30. Now at level 60 it’s just the same pattern over and over again. Drop wells, focus 4, dagger, dagger, siphon blood. Rinse and repeat.

So? Thats your problem. They have many ways for you to level. Crafting still levels you, WvW, dungeons (except level restricted ones), living story.
Its your own fault you choose to do easy content, focus on it and repeat it over and over. They provide many means for you to level….you want them to hold your hand through all the different ways too? Or just flat out tell you how to do cause you can’t go into anything of your own accord?
Have some of you played any game besides this one? GW2 is stupid easy and fast to level. Should they just put a scroll in the cashshop that instantly makes you 80? Cause that really sounds like what some people want.

I have 6 level 80’s. None of them have been leveled the same way. You all must be playing a different game.

Hostility is unnecessary. I was just relaying my experience.

I agree with Mr.Ruin minus the hostility. My latest level 80 char I leveled exclusively in WvW. Was a completely different experience. What’s cool is you level up without even realizing it. Sometimes I finish a 3hour session in EB and I look down and am two levels higher than when I started.

PvP is also wicked fun with a necro. Just throwin that out there.

People have suggested leveling in WvW. I’ve always been afraid of being a rally bot. I know that people frequently target upleveled. But hey, I’m willing to give it a shot.

When it comes down to the major battles, I assure you that you won’t be targetted for being upleveled. There are way too many people around to be clicking on each one to see who is and isn’t level 80. I would honestly grab a ranged weapon and hang in the back if you are nervous at first. Just having supply on you makes you instantly useful so you will never be a burden. If you have an active server, just look in /map for whoever is acting commander for direction. Or you can typically look for the commander tag and just head there.

Almost everything you do in WvW results in some kind of event XP so you level up fast. If you want to roam solo then you may have a problem. But that would be true for any level really. Typically you want to find some others to join. You don’t have to create a party, just follow with them. There’s safety in numbers. Lord knows you’re pretty much always going to come across the enemy in groups. It’s pretty rare that I see someone running around solo, but when I do, they tend not to last long. Unless they are thieves. Because they can invis and escape.

I highly highly recommend WvW. Once you get how it all works (rule #1, always have supply) it becomes significantly more fun. Even more so if you play with a guild that WvWs, because then you can form small secondary parties to cap stuff while the zergs smash into each other.

How do you save laurels if...

Two of my chars are fully geared. I have little to no interest spending laurels to gear my 3rd, 4th, or 5th alt. When you don’t need ascended gear, your laurels tend to pile up quite a bit. Completing the monthly every month helps too.

I will say, though, that the first time I got the 10 unidentified dye pack with laurels I got not only Celestial, but Abyss dye and Midnight Fire. I’m not kidding. It’s the single greatest RNG experience I’ve ever had. The rest of my RNG in GW2 has been absolute kitten. Sadly no one believed me in guild when I linked them. Whatever. I used both the Celestial and Abyss, sold the Midnight Fire because I already had it. In hindsight I should have sold them all because honestly I don’t use either Celestial or Abyss on my Sylvari characters.

Not sure why I even shared this. I guess to promote buying dyes with laurels? But that would be counterproductive to saving laurels.

Now that I am, it’s a complete PITA to try and get people together to do it. It’s not like asking someone to run CoF or FoTM. I remember in AC, there was a pretty rare monster that would spawn randomly called a Hoary Mattekar (for old AC players you know where I’m going with this). If you happened upon one it was really exciting, but what’s even better is that when you killed it there was a chance that it would drop a Hoary Mattekar hide (drop rate was pretty low, I’d guess 5%, and considering how rare it was to come across one it made it quite exclusive). Anyway, if you happened to get one of their rare hides you could craft it into this sweet all-white robe (there were no dyes in AC, so something being all-white was pretty effing awesome). I spent so much time hunting those things to get that robe.

I think something like that would be pretty sweet. It would need to not be a farm-able spawn though. Would need to be a legitimately random spawn.

Boy I could have a discussion all kitten day about how some achievement point rewards are not equivalent to others. WvW achievements are typically a good example of AP not being representative of the time required to complete. If I can get 10AP within 1-1.5hrs doing dailies, but need literally weeks to get the same 10AP from a WvW achievement, something is wrong with the system.

This is an RPG. There’s no click here and receive everything. Leveling by actually playing the game has been a core component of RPG’s for nearly their entire existence.

But the playelement to level is maybe not extensive enough. It’s completing maps, do a dungeon and maybe some WvW.

If we’re talking about strictly level 80 stuff, then you have dungeons, PvP, WvW, map completion, and LS stuff (which you could lump into dungeons I suppose).

I’m trying to think about what I did at max level in all of the other MMOs I’ve ever played, and it pretty much boiled down to dungeons and/or PvP. I honestly can’t think of anything else I ever did at end-game besides those two. Hunting down rare mounts/items typically involved farming a dungeon/raid hoping to get a rare drop.

For non-80s you have almost an identical list of things you can do: WvW, PvP, map completion, and LS stuff. Dungeons are the only things that are level restricted, but LS dungeons upscale as do FoTM dungeons, so really you’re just missing out on the standard dungeons and access to every zone, but that comes with time.

If you don’t enjoy PvP or WvW then GW2 will get boring pretty quick.

problem with the current leveling is there is not much replayability. alot of us have already map completed 100%, maybe even twice or more. there is not much other experience after that. all the events u have done already multiple times feel old and grindy. idd there should be something that could make u instantly lvl 80. maybe it should require first 1 lvl 80 character who knows, maybe 100% map completion?

I do agree with this. Sort of. I have 2 chars at 100% so I definitely know where you’re coming from. But in all honesty, what game isn’t like that? I mean, once you’ve been to every zone and done every mission/event/quest, you’re pretty much in the same boat. I don’t think it’s exclusive to GW2, I think that’s MMOs in general.

What’s nice about GW2 and having explored everything twice, for new chars I know what areas I like and don’t like. And since you can level up to 80 in literally any zone (or for my most recent char I did strictly WvW—which was fun as hell btw—a bit inconsistent, but definitely fun as hell), I just pick the zones I feel like going to and don’t worry about completion anymore.

I find I RP with newer chars now. They wander the landscape looking for people to help (DEs). It helps to break the repetition.

What is so much fun at level 80?! Personally I think that the game stops being fun when I hit level cap.

At 80 I can go anywhere and do all events.

I get all trait points.

I can play dress up with my character and wear whatever I want within my armor type.

can do all dungeons.

that right there is reason enough.

I have 2 80s. I know.

I believe any level char can wear any level skin. You just have to xmute it onto a lower level item. That’s been my experience anyway and how my level 10 ranger has T2 cultural on.

I’m sorry you find leveling grindy. If you had experience with other MMOs you would actually find leveling in GW2 lolez and not a grind. But for someone new to MMOs who doesn’t know any different I could see why you would think it needed improvement.

For those of us who have played many MMOs in the past, GW2 is seriously a breath of fresh air. I mean, I have 5 level 80s. That’s unheard of for me in a year of playing. In most other games I’ll be barely getting to level cap after a year.

Yeah well running dungeons doesn’t really float my boat, never has.. I’m more of a farmer and like to keep myself afloat on the profits of what I’ve farmed. That said, this is more of a want than a need, I’d really like to get my alt a decent weapon, and the one I have in mind involves giant eyes.

I mean I can go with other skins but it’s more the drive of getting something that’s rare and something that I want to have farmed and achieved myself rather than buying off others. I haven’t checked the TP lately, but giant eyes can’t be that popular if they’re hard to farm (or get from bags).

Well, all I can say is that sometimes you have to do things that don’t necessarily float your boat to get what you want. The only other alternative is to keep trying to farm basilisks and/or farm something else that you can liquidate into money to buy eyes. CoF p1 can be done in under 10min with practice. You can’t beat that kind of time/money ratio.

It may be a terrible first impression, but it’s an honest first impression. You can expect the rest of the game to be terrible if you don’t like the champ trains in Queensdale.

One thief is alright, multiple thieves and you might as well just open inventory and start drinking your karma and using your essences of luck. At least that way you’re being somewhat productive. I will say however, that this applies to any class really. Multiple eles? lol cya in like 3 secs (assuming burst eles), multiple Guards, yea, you’d be lucky to take 5% hp off of one, multiple warriors, yep owned, so on and so forth. If you don’t want to farm it, and aren’t in a big hurry, I would honestly suggest running one dungeon explore path every day and using that 1g to buy an eye. You could scale this to more paths per day if you really wanted to. But doing a CoF p1 run each day would at the very least get you what you needed in 250 days.

It’s very easy to run AC p1, p3, and CoF p1, p2 every day. With a good group you can complete all 4 in a little over an hour. That’s at minimum 4g/day which would get you 250 eyes in a couple of months. Not the best, but at least it’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
