Punished for not crafting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draknar.5748

If you want best gear in WvWvW, then you need to craft it. There is nothing unfair about that. Open war will have some sides with better technology/weapons than others. The ones that put the time into crafting will have better gear. If you are lazy and/or just don’t care about crafting, then you will not have the best gear.

In actual competitive PvP, everyone is on equal ground.

There is so much more going on in WvW than small-scale PvP, therefore gear does not need to be equal.

You are “punished” in the same way that countries in real life are “punished” for having inferior technology. Which is to say, you are not punished, some people just have better stuff than you. At least in GW2 you know how to obtain those items and can work towards them. If you don’t, then I guess you need to be OK with being almost as strong as the top players.

Agreed.

Apparently if you played GW1 and expected GW2 to be similar, then you end up hating the game. As someone who never played GW1, I love GW2. When you say meta to do well in PvE do you mean doing dungeon speed runs and high level fractals? Those are the only areas that would possibly require you to choose a cookie cutter build.

For 97% of the GW2 content you can use whatever weapons and build you want and still do well. You aren’t forced to do anything.

I don’t have a link to a dev response, but I’m pretty confident what you are asking will not happen ever.

Sighs another semantics joker.

Do I really need to explain this?

If you really want to have this argument then here:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mistlock_Instability

Yours definition of content is incorrect.

The fights at higher level fractals due to the mistlock instability list have different mechanics and effects hence different content. I suggestion you review them before attempting any because as per your post I can see you being a liability to a group.

Also, The fractals are listed from 1-50 – there is no difficulty slider.

You may view them as more difficult I simply view them as different because I would not play the exact same way in a level 1 with no instability as I would on a level 43 with Bloodlust.

To clarify – Not being able to do a level 50 by most normal persons would mean by definition you can not do all content.

<boggle>

Sorry, bud, we will have to agree to disagree here, like pretty much everyone on either side of the fence on this.

New attacks/effects does NOT equate to new content. It’s the same content, they added some added mechanics, but in the end it is the same content. You are going through the same level, fighting the same bad guys, killing the same bosses, except now there are different moves the boss uses or different modifiers on damage?

That’s a serious stretch just to make the argument that “lawlz gw2 is totally vertical because you can’t do the hardest version of easily accessible content, which means it is new content, which means Ascended isn’t optional it is REQUIRED huehuehue”.

Someone completely new to GW2 could level up to 80, gear up in yellows, and run FoTM1 of every single fractal and have experienced every bit as much content as the FoTM50 group. Sure the 50 group faces a harder challenge, but in the end, both groups are running the same dungeon, facing the same types of monsters, and killing the same bosses. That is the same content.

I have a feeling that if Anet made a big announcement about a giant update with loads of new content, and then it turned out that all the new “content” was was the same dungeons we have but a special hard-mode that requires Ascended gear, you’d be right with everyone else saying “WTF ANET THAT ISNT NEW CONTENT ITS THE SAME CONTENT WITH MORE CHALLENGE RIPOFF!!”

Anyone else realize GW1 is the better series?

I think you only feel that no one knows whats going on/are disconnected because you are thinking of the LS/boss events right at release, when literally nobody knows what is going on.

I used to be like you. I would run around following a group of people, try to see if a commander was yelling directions, and then follow along like a sheep. I didn’t know what was even going on.

Then I started to think to myself “maybe there’s more to these encounters than what I am experiencing”. I go online, research the actual encounters, and suddenly it all starts making sense. Oh, so there are X phases, and he uses Y attacks during this phase, and you need to have Z number of people over in this area defending A point, or activating B.

A good example is the Teq fight, or Wurm, or Marionette. When I first did them, heck even the first 3-4 times, I was completely lost, didn’t know how I was contributing, what to do, heck I didn’t even know where people were going. Over time I learned the encounters and realized that it was just me being lazy and not learning the fight beforehand.

Then I started thinking of my old raiding days. I raided pretty heavily, and every raid instance we had to read up on the bosses ahead of time, plan placements, etc. I don’t know why I never thought of doing that in GW2, but trust me, it helps. Tremendously.

You are incorrect. All content can not be done with exos.

If I wanted to do a level 49 fractal I would need agony resist 55 specifically.

You need ascended armor to do fractals at a certain level. UNLESS you have more money then most and can make some pretty hefty infusions (doubtful as it’s not a viable or logical way).

Fractals are content in the game which requires agony resist.

I’d love for you to explain to someone, like me, who has done every single fractal in existence up through level 35 difficulty, how the content is actually different 36-50? Harder =/= different content. Every fractal can be experienced in rare gear. The content is the level, the bosses, the “story” that goes behind it. Playing the same exact content but significantly harder is not new content.

So he was correct when he said that all content can be completed in Exos.

If you choose to play that content on a harder difficulty, then it will require better gear, but you can’t sit there saying that content just can’t be done withOUT Ascended gear, because that’s a lie.

It’s like playing a single player game once on Normal difficulty, and then playing it again on Nightmare difficulty and acting like it is completely different content. It’s the exact same thing, just harder.

I imagine there’s some sort of psychological reasoning behind this behavior but it’s certainly a trait you’ll find in any multiplayer game over a span of time.

It’s something much much much simpler. The current LS event is fully finished in an HOUR. It’s entirely realistic for people to have completed every single achievement for this LS meta in the first hour this event was running. After that, what’s left for them to do? Sure there’s farming, but even THAT can get boring after a day or five. All the “hardcore” players more or less stopped running LA last week. Right now it’s the stragglers, farmers, and the Hive Mind (the zerging).

Except what you are saying is not true. Clearly you have not looked at what the achievements actually are. For example, you need to do each entry event (Lornar’s, Gendarran, Bloodtide). Unless you are saying you can be in three places at once.

When I play my alts in LA event, with an XP booster and proper use of Killstreak booster I get basically 1 level per run. It would be completely believable that someone could have leveled from 40-76 in 3 days, especially if they run it multiple times a day, plus he could have traded his heirlooms for the Experience Scrolls for extra levels. wasting 10 minutes of my solo experience.

It wasn’t time wasted, you just got frustrated at the high respawn rate in that particular spot. Time wasted would be spending 10min doing a jumping puzzle and then falling at the last minute and having to restart. That would be your 10min being wasted as you have nothing to show for it. In your case you have XP and loot to show for your time spent.

Not all areas have respawn timers like that. The ones that do, from my experience, tend to be areas that are designed for more people.

And like someone else said, this game’s solo PvE is widely considered to be very easy by MMO standards. It’s a shame you are having so much trouble with it.

Thank you Sir, my home server is TC so I just assumed that the overflow was also there, so in overflow you are on a separate server to just house overflows? I’m not real clear on how that works.

Overflow servers house the spill-over players from many different servers. There are no dedicated overflow servers for each main server. If you’re in an Overflow, you could be playing with players from any number of servers.

Why I Avoid Tequatl & The Wurm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Adding raids would mean less people will participate in these events. Only people in raiding guilds will be completing these events, everyone else will ignore it because they can’t get a group of 40+ people together. Many MMO players have raided for years, and like me, are pretty much over that entire type of gameplay. The “abuse” of the overflow system is the current way for large guilds to try and mimic a raid scenario. There is nothing wrong with that.

If it was strictly raid instances, then those same large raid guilds will just go to their own raid instance. It will change absolutely nothing.

It sounds like you need to a) join a boss killing guild, because those do exist or b) continue not participating in those events or c) participate, have a good time, win or lose.

Uh huh. How long does it take to save up the mats for that 1-500 crafting in half an hour? Or, if you’re too lazy to get your own mats, how long did it take you to earn the 100+ gold to buy them?

Don’t tell me it was 30 minutes.

So, unless you’re willing to shell out like $30 or $40 to buy the gold to buy the mats, it’s a MUCH bigger investment than half an hour.

I guess it depends on how long you’ve been playing the game. I’ve been playing since early release and have plenty of money at this point. Some days I’ve farmed for it I suppose, but mostly it’s just selling things I get or play the TP here and there.

I wouldn’t be able to tell you how long it would take to farm 100g, but I’d venture to guess if you, say, did 3 dungeon paths a day (the fast ones that take 10-15min), considering the drops you’d get, plus guaranteed money from completing the runs, you would probably have your 100g in ~3 weeks playing less than 1hr each day (16.5hrs play time). This doesn’t take into account potential high value drops that could reduce your time greatly. This is assuming 4.5g each day from running 3 dungeon paths plus selling what you get.

If you really wanted to “farm” for it, you’d be able to get 100g in a matter of days.

So no, not 30min if you don’t already have mats and are broke. You can’t accomplish as much in this game if you are broke.

You’re good to kick someone like that. They are directly impeding progress. You wouldn’t want to kick them after a couple of wipes, but if they are consistently not listening (i.e. being a team player) then they don’t get the benefit of playing with a team.

Everyone has a responsibility to the group. If all members pull their weight, it is absolutely unacceptable to kick them for a friend. If one member isn’t playing well with the team, isn’t listening, is being threatening, or is overall a complete kitten, then you can boot them with impunity for someone that will play well.

If you requested experienced players, and the person says “hey guys, never done this before, how does this fight work”, then you could boot them, because you had advertised as wanting experienced players and they joined under false pretenses. The cool thing to do would be to explain the fights and keep them, because honestly this game isn’t that difficult if you just know what to do during each encounter.

If I see 4 normal mobs ganging up on a downed player, I 100% of the time will not rez you immediately. I can kill 4 normal mobs quicker than it takes to rez one player while taking hits. And I certainly expect players to realize this and tag the mob so that they will rally right away.

OMG this. I’ve had people yell at me to rez them when they don’t realize I AM rezzing them, by killing the mobs around them. Seriously, people just mash #4 skill and type “res plz” or “REZ!!!!!” and don’t even consider scanning the mobs around them for lowest health and attacking it.

Some of these events it will straight up kill me if I stop to rez you while in combat. It takes forever! No, instead, I will look around you, find the lowest health/easiest thing to kill, and hope it will rally you when I kill it. If it doesn’t, you’re on your own. Server populations are fine. In case you didn’t notice, a new Living World just came out. Try going to Lion’s Arch and look for people.

so u mean to say people will not go get their first kill on the 2 boss’s wich award Dragon chest’s to have their guaranteed Exotic all to farm LA?? I mean I got my darn tempered spinal wings in 1 night

I think he’s saying this, yes. LA right now is a fantastic place for a) loot/money and b) leveling alts. I play this game every day and I can tell you I’ve seen no population decrease and also everyone is doing LA event right now. Go check that out.

Either way, if you feel the game is dying and do not enjoy your time, move on to other things, nobody cares.

Why I've changed my mind on Ascended

I guess by access, they mean getting carried by people who realize statistical advantages matter.

Think of it like a roller coaster. You must be at least 60in (152.4cm) to ride this ride. You are a short fellow so normally you are just at 60in, but now you bought some fancy Ascended shoes that catapult you to 72" (183cm, these are tall shoes). Not only can you still ride this ride, but now being taller allows for you to get a better view while riding, enhancing your experience (ignoring the fact that taller shoes would not increase your seated height). You experience the same thing, but slightly better. The shorter guy isn’t disadvantaged and is still able to ride the ride and have a good time, but the taller guy just has a better ride overall now because of the wind in his luxurious hair.

It’s the same thing. Exotic gets the job done for everything in this game, and it gets it done well. Ascended also gets the job done but a little bit better (yes 10-13% constitutes a little bit better). That’s it.

I’m so sorry for the terrible analogy, I really struggled to come up with something decent on the fly.

If the rest of 2014 is filled with LS updates and no real enjoyable PERMANANT content update… than have fun playing with what few people will be left in this game

I want to continue playing GW2 but if all i’m getting for the next year is a bunch of this LS nonsense and no meaningful addition, than good bye.

btw, EQN is the game you are looking for..not wildstar =p. not impressed with wildstar either or ESO

I’m having fun in EoTM, and as far as I know that is a permanent addition, so…I guess OP should look forward to stuff like that?

Yea, it sounds like you burned out on MMOs. I’ve taken plenty of breaks from GW2 to play other games. Come back when you feel like it. If you aren’t enjoying yourself when you play, then don’t play. It really is that simple.

Also it sounds like you attempted a guild mission twice and based on those results you decided the drop rate hasn’t increased? As far as I know MF only effects loot dropped from mobs and not reward loot from completed event chests. Drop rates likely went from horrible to slightly less horrible.

GW2 is not and won’t be GW1 with revamped graphics.

It’s a shame, because a continuation of GW’s game type and style A) was what a lot of people expected, B ) was what a lot of people wanted, C) was what would have kept GW veterans happy in the sequel, and D) would have given GW2 a similar staying power (which I just don’t see in its current form).

Oh well…too late now. ANet made their decisions. I’ll just be very surprised if GW2 ever reaches the kind of dedicated fan base that GW has.

And what type of dedicated fan base does GW1 have?

The type where players revisit a game that is 9 years old, has no content updates, and yet is still somehow enticing players to leave GW2 and go back to it.

And almost every single one of those people hop on GW1 for an hour, enjoy fleeting nostalgia, then hop back off.

Glad you like it. As for me, not impressed.

It seems that Anet has mistaken good quality content and strong story telling with grind.

You are playing the wrong genre if you don’t like grind. Go play an RTS or FPS…

Um, no.

I think his point was that every (and I mean literally every) MMO has grind, and if you are not a fan of grinding, then MMOs are not the genre for you.

I think we need to all take a break from the “OMG grind in GW2, that’s unacceptable!” stance. It’s an MMO like any other, despite what their intentions were years ago, the game is what it is now, and at this point you either like the game or you don’t. Pick one and move on. I and many others are so tired of the “Grind Wars 2 lol” topics. We all get it, you heard/read there would be no grind, you see grind, and you want the “haha, gotcha, there IS grind when you said there wouldn’t be! Haha Anet sucks!!1!” moment.

It’s a dead horse, and you guys are beating the ever-loving kitten out of it.

I guess your fanboism is yours.

I honestly think 500g is a fair price for BiS gear. Even the length of time to farm for 500g is fair for a set of BiS.

I really think people have become completely spoiled when it comes to progression. 200hrs in-game time to get BiS is completely reasonable. I’ve logged more hours into Skyrim…
