put some arrow carts on the ground behind the door (out of aoe obv) and shoot the ground just behind the door.

This takes care of any melee attempting to hit the door point blank, forcing them to use ranged, which takes much longer and you can significantly delay by ferrying in supply and fixing the door as they shoot it.

Problem is this week I had to call off attempting the operation due to our scores being so close, as we were focused on taking second place on thursday.

Anet needs to fix the scoring system so going after the winning server nets you more points than fighting over second and third. The way scores are setup, it makes no sense to attack a server that has already ‘won’ in score, but to attack the other server so they cant beat you.

Really the ball is in anets court, right now there is no real advantage to teaming up.

Joint operations with DR will only happen if its both advantagous to our positions or in a situation where the day is a lame duck day, where no server is going to pass another before reset so we want to make some fun, or prove a point.

I’m sure they will add the process into their QA tools after this is fixed.

What probably happened in QA is a tester loaded 500 ‘players’ into a zone, saw them all, checked it off.

But this bug is created by something happening to the user, like death, or waypointing several times, and its inconsistant, but when it happens its consistant. So I can see it being missed by a QA process.

And no, its not possible to test everything in a game for a patch, it just isnt.

Think about it, every zone, every skill interatction, dye colors, player armor combinations, every DE, voice acted line etc. Its just crazy.

Also punkbuster is terrible, and if installed I will no longer play gw2.

I hate it with a passion. It’s unreliable, piece of kitten, that doesnt even do its job properly. Last game I played with it, it gave me all sorts of trouble. From the get go on a new game it was kicking me out of servers for a variety of reasons (nothing to do with cheating… some other bullkitten).

Or in scenarios where you have to provide limited trust to the clients do spot checking by the server on x number of clients at a time. Flag suspet clients, and ban outright cheating clients.

Its also difficult to tell the difference between a cheat and a client bug.

If anet wrote code to ban everyone that was at 10,000 feet, they would have ended up banning engineers using rocket boots in the water as a bug launched them way up in the air :P.

So yeah, it isnt easy.

Also Oheson how do you know something like this would have been caught in a QA test.

What if a zerg load of 500 players in an area in wvw worked fine in testing, but when it went to live it blew up? We dont know the details, you are only making assumptions. I doubt anet wants to put out any fail patches, just testing every possible scenerio takes a lot of time. Shortcuts have to be taken or it will be months before we even see a patch.

Take this current issue, would you like them to patch it asap and get wvw back up and running tomorrow, or should they shut down wvw for 2 months till they work out all the bugs then reopen it.

I think most players would prefer the former.

Its pretty easy to identify bots in orr.

They run defined paths, and most of them teleport :/

The bots that were leveld from level 1 are always rangers with a bear pet, hacked accounts use other classes.

Its not the hack, its what you do after the hack.

If you guys halted your assault on garrision, let the orb reset, run the orb back to garrision to ‘give’ it back, then resume your assault. then much +respect for your server and guild.

Not doing that you dont get any respect. Just play on.

Condoneing it and you lose respect, shame shame.

Your server did the middle, just play on.

Warriors are currently the fastest class in the game with the sword/greatsword weapon sets. Without using all my speed options i’m faster than the fastest possible theif (not to say the theif isnt fast, they are, and on top of that they are elusive, which has its own benifit).

And guardians are irreplaceable in keep defense. Staff auto attack can hit attackers from behind the gate at a safe range. But thats not all the guardian can do to turn the tide in a tower/keep. They have the most overpowered zerg stopping abilities in the game and my guild relies on them regularly for our defensive setups.

To deal with DS as a warrior.

Swap to shield, use shield 5. Dodge if nessisary. Theifs major DPS ability down, you are at full health, now you kill him. If he steals from you to do whirling axes, stun with shield 4, kill. I am far more afraid of theives guild as a warrior than Daggerstorm.

To deal with DS as a group: Strip boons, kill. Or group wide retaliation also does the trick.

We didnt give up last time we were matched either, it was simply our best effort to stay on the map at all vs your overwhelming population.

We got plenty of new blood for this week so were going to be putting out stiffer resistance.

The only thing I take issue with in this thread is the post asking for people to switch FROM Kaineng and DR? No thanks.

Kaineng is getting a queue on one map at most now, you got a queue for all 4. And to be honest were not gunning for you because we know we cant beat you yet. Were gunning for second place for a second week in a row building our momentum. We developed lots of new tactics that we employed against Fergie last week but to be honest fergie is a lower pop server than BP is. I estimate fergie’s wvw population is 1/2 your wvw population.

In our primetime this week we should be able to contest 2 maps daily.

Basically if TA wanted to move they would have to do it piecemeal such that the server they are moving to starts winning and eventually makes it to T1, while not being too easy and a boring citadel campfest.

The only 2 servers with enough room for the entire TA alliance without hitting queues are Kaineng and Devona’s Rest. But because of aformentioned problems of jumping everyone all at once and risking bandwagoners following, it becomes a nonstarter.

It makes sense.

It isnt TA’s fault that their server is stuck with such huge queues. and it isnt TA that should be ‘punished’ and forced to move.

It should be all those bandwagoners that jumped to HoD just because it was winning. They should go back to their homes or DR or Kaineng.

We did it again today.

both days it was apathy inc leading the keep take and setting up most of the defenses in the inner keep including our new addition, a center trebuchet. a catapult and a few arrow carts and 2 ballista were added from other people.

We attempted two orb steals today on dreadfall but didnt manage to break the inner door. One of these days were going to setup the ultimate meatgrinder backed up with an orb buff.

Thanks to all the guilds thats showed up after we knocked the wall down, we almost faltered on our second attempt but managed to finish the door with a late ram. From there our saga of crushing a third of the map went forward. Several guilds setup a seige on bluebrair by trebbing it from the ruins. (i think it was smiles was it you?). Eventually the ferg just started to outnumber and outzerg our forces and we lost redlake and the enemies were on the gates once again. And then again, we held out the inner lord room, with a guardian rotation that locked the entrance way down (provided from an allied guild, forget which sorry its late, but you guys deserve credit for locking that hallway off).

You could transfer to Kaineng or DR.

Our problems are mostly population based as we were both one of the 3 post launch servers that opened up. ET got an alliance on day 1 that could field enough numbers to snowball up the ladder, but Kaineng and DR have been stuck going against a release server green team from pretty much day 2.

But we do fine for what we got. like holding out against a far superior force for over 2 and a half hours in a tiny little lord room.

I’m sure for you guys you arnt having that much fun. When we take things you zerg us off the maps and tactics and strategy has little to do with why you beat us. I’m sure thats disappointing.

I’m just going to drop the note here that the reason dusk and dawn etc prices are rising has little to do with DR.

More people are hitting 80, more people are starting their legendary weapon hunt.

You can attempt to make your own weapon using the forge to attempt to make the precursor, by throwing rare-mystic weapons in there all of the same type.

Yeah we finally lost pang when we only had about 8 people defending it. But our goal was complete, we managed to hold it long enough to get enough supplies into our keep to get some upgrades on it. My guild was the one that laid out the siege equipment, well one person in my guild laid the matrix so you can thank Thadren for that, too bad on your final flank we didnt have enough people to man it all.

But an upgraded camp is definatly worth defending, and pangloss is very defenseable.

And dont worry, you will be introduced to many a kaineng meatgrinder by the end of the week.

I have a loongish post coming with some detailed feedback that can make the game a lot better. But Ill post the jist of it here:

There are some severe problems with the scorekeeping in WvW right now. There is no account for difficulty. For example, if a server is fielding 3x the population of another server, do you think its a fair metric that that server gets ALL the points ALL the time. What that does is create a lame duck scenario where the winner gets to play kingmaker. (Why is a lame duck/kingmaker scenario bad, see sirlin’s blog on olympic badmitten).

Lots of people are discouraged when they see the score so out of wack and so uncatchable.

The solution? Award bonus points to servers that take and hold objectives against larger numbers of enemies. If I am outnumbered 10:1 overall (all maps are taken into account) I get 10x the amount of points the site is worth immediately when i capture it. Basically, if your server outnumbers the enemy by so much that you can afford to guard all your camps with 20 people when the enemy server only has 10 people total, that server should get major points when it takes objectives. You do not get any additional points for holding objectives, the idea is to get the server involved in making headway into wvw.

This is an anti-snowball mechanic that will help normalize scores in off peak hours, or in matchups where a server is just hopelessly outnumbered at all hours. The number is something I threw out there on a whim, and I’m sure that you guys can come up with better metrics so the system cant just be abused to rapidly gain score but a mechanic that is dynamic like this would help correct scoring issues.

The other method is to make holding objectives for the team that vastly outnumbers the enemy worth less points per tick, by keeping track of a ‘difficulty’ rating. Take your server, multiply its population by 2, compare it to the total enemy population, that is your baseline. If its an even fight the baseline will be 1. The baseline cannot exceed 1 so simply logging out your guild before a point tick wont net any results, and the count is for total number of unique people logged into your map within that 15 min span, to avoid any log out exploits to gain more score. If you outnumber the enemy your points are going to be worth less by that , to a minimum of 10. This is another anti-snowball mechanic designed to prevent a server from outscoring both opponents by almost a factor of 10 (see BP vs Kaineng vs Devona’s Rest). Again, this is to avoid a lame-duck or kingmaker scenario.).

Third, eliminate stat advantage for holding orbs. Make them worth points, and give +exp +karma +MF awards to the team that holds them.

Fourth, fix the outmanned buff
currently it doesnt reapply if you get downed and revived. You lose the buff till you leave and reenter the zone.
make it give meaningful boosts that increase the players effectiveness in a fight, the prevoius orb bonus should be transferred to outmanned.

Basically, the major concern right now is the huge snowballing effect on the score that ‘night capping’ or ‘morning capping on weekdays’ causes. It creates an unwinnable situation for servers, where they become lame ducks. Once a server becomes a lame duck, nothing they do will have any effect on the outcome, and the players of that server are now worthless. So they lose morale and quit playing wvw till friday, making the situation worse.

It might be a botter, bots are using all sorts of similar hacks so it wouldnt take much for a bot op to use the same code for an advantage like that.

BP has anywhere from 40-100 bots in wvw split between zones. Has nothing to do with BP as a server, but the fact that their opponents cant field numbers to contest BP during most hours, letting the bots operate freely.

When BP moves into a different bracket these bot accounts will switch the the server that has the top of the kaineng + DR matchup.

The point isnt to make nightcapping or off peak playing less valued. Its to make overpopulation undersireable, to try to push people to join servers without similar populations at similar times.

I see no difference between 50 on 50 on 50 vs 166 on 166 on 166, in terms of difficulty.

But when its 166 vs 10 vs 5, whatever the team with 166 is doing should be worth far less, because its easy.

Scoring should be adjusted with difficulty. You shouldnt be awarded as much for doing something difficult. A system like this will help guard against horribly impossible snowball scores of 400k+ vs 50k vs 40k. Thats just not fun.

People play games to have fun, and WvW is the most fun in contested matches so systems need to be in place to keep the match competative.

Basing scoring on difficulty (how hard is it to take keeps with current population numbers) is one step. And its fair because the system will award equal points to 10v10v10 as 166v166v166. If you find yourself playing when your server has a queue and the other 2 dont, maybe you should switch and even out the fight, and probably have more fun in the process, and the systems should be in place to encourage people hopping to disadvantaged servers in your timeslot to improve wvw competativeness.

If your server outnumbers 2 servers combined, what you hold should not be worth the same compared to when there is an even fight. I’m not saying what you hold shouldn’t be worth anything, just less proportional to the difficulty in taking it, clearly marked in the scoring system.

Second thing WvW needs is a way to win after your severely behind. It should be difficult but if you cant possibly attain a win, you are now in a lame-duck situation.

Lame-duck situations are bad bad situations to be in and is really not fun for both sides.

The scoring system can be revamped to both be fair and make sure no server truely snowballs out of control to an unbeatable lead where the other servers are in a lame duck situation.

The other bad situation that comes up is the current king-maker situation where either a server is so far behind, or another server is so far ahead, they get to decide who is in second and third place by forcusing their efforts on stopping the server in third, this is an equally dangerous situation to be in, while its fine if it happens on the small scale but i fear its going to have a more major impact causing the pairings to get mixed up and servers to not be properly ranked where they should be.

There is sPvP for pure PvP.

Going down the road mythic did and removing every NPC from the PvP territories makes the game more stale.

WvW is a living world, there just happens to be a war going on in it.

Also if you use teamspeak, you can right click yourself and hit ‘show connection info’ and see if you have any packet loss.

Sure they could implement them such that you have to go to a stable to get your mount, and when your mount dies, its dead. But there is no reason to work through all the design problems of allowing them (people on mounts doing jumping puzzles, getting places they shouldnt, etc). It’s better to simply not have them and give players the ability to give themselves speed boosts.

ET had AA transfer to them, and a lot of dedicated WvWers. ET’s wvw population is many times greater than Kaineng or Devona’s Rest. Plus you guys are getting more hoppers as you worked your way up the ladder.

No big alliance wants to throw away their influence to change to Kaineng or Devona’s Rest because they care a lot more about their influence and social networks they setup than they do about being able to play WvW without a queue.

I will say that ET and Kaineng and Devona’s Rest have similar PvE problems at the moment. We have more bots at any given moment on the cursed shore than actual players.
