The platforms are provided with players in a poker style. So… there were players in that platform, they just probably died and went to the Waypoint nearby in the first 30 seconds. Result: when you look in the second 31, you think there was nobody there.

You say griefing, we say war.

WvW players get poor loot and are forced into content they often don’t like just to get the very weapons they fight with. Long have we been the second class citizens of guildwars 2 and when content is added for us, its usually when something (orbs, quaggans) is taken away.

WvW keeps this game alive. The transfer fees paid by wvw guild migration are considerable and as structured-pvp is rapidly dieing out, wvw is where the pvp side of this game is headed. When Wildstar comes out, WvW will be what holds this game together, or what sinks it if a better home for us is offered. Its about time we got some kudos for the things we do to keep the pve side of the game alive.

So I say unto those venturing into the edge of the mists – come armed and come determined enough that when you fall, you get back up and you hunt out the one who felled you so that you can drive him or her from the mists and into the hands of Grenth himself.

The time to ignore us is over – you`re in our world now.

As someone that playes 99% PvE and almost never PvP or WvsW… seriously, this post is brilliant. It encourage players to join a war, die, being kitten d by the WvsW veterans and the best thing about it? The players themselves did choose to accept that challenge.

Personally i’m gonna go to the edge of the mists because of this post xD I hope i can hunt down dowm enemies

What do you think about making specific ranks for players? that way someone can check in a moment what each player teachs. For example: Arah mentor. And then put all the Arah mentors in that rank. FotM mentors, and more more ranks.

For people that wants or can teachs more than just 1 dungeon, i guess we could use some ideas or different ranks as well.

lane 2 should swap with lane 4. Since a lot of people fails in the mines enemies, but almost nobody ever wipes in the doggies. You gotta be blind to die there.

10 days ago, they dropped. I can confirm that, it dropped from Aetherpath in the event where you need to defend npcs from some waves of enemies (after final boss).

BTW, an easy fix to get the right players through the lfg is as easy as a filter that allows the party creator to choose a minimum level, proffessions and that stuff. If someone doesn’t qualifies for it, the joining button wouldn’t be availible.

The marionette was a big success on the way world events should be. However it also makes more noticeable the big fails of the world event issues (overflows + players not participating in the event but using 1 slot of the maximum capacity for the map).

If those 2 issues could be fixed, the marionette is a win fight for 90% of the players. A lot of them learn, a lot others just love to fight her all over again and some other players just notice how important they can be (for good or bad) to the community.

I tried /cheer after the cinematic and didnt’ get it. Next time I closed the cinematic and /cheered…and didnt’ get it. The Next time I closed the cinematic and entered the portal to be up next to the chest and did /cheer….and didn’t get it.

so far only beaten marrionette three times….guess I will try /cheer quickly before cinematic next time.

You gotta do it before the cinematic. Just as soon as you got the confirmation of chain 5 destroyed (event done message in the right side of your screen). You will have 1-5 seconds to do it before cinematic.

How to fall off the platform in mary <3

I will create the thread for 2 reasons:

1: so you are aware and fix it.
2: so other people are aware and don’t do it xD.

The first time it happened randomly, but i tried to replicate it a 2nd time and worked 100%. I did fall off the platform and died.

This bug seems to happens when you are in platform 3 and destroy your generator, somehow that creates a “gap” in one of the sides of the generator (if you flank it by the right side? oh god, my english is bad today). If you run and jump to that gap… well, you fall off and die xD. I didn’t tested it yet in the platform 1 so i don’t know what happens if you fall but you don’t die there.

i usually rez other people platforms if they die near the wall, with my warriors banner of war. Also fire areas work good for damage that’s because if the enemy enters the area but then leaves, he will be burning due to the condition effect.

By “all” do you mean…

1: the captain that if you don’t kill in 60 seconds, he flees away?
2: destroyed all 3 ships with granades?
3: did the caithe’s room event?
4: defended all npcs in the center?
5: found and open all chests before time runs out?

If you do all that, you would get a random chest (from 1 to 3 chests) as the event reward. However if you miss any of those, you might also get 0 chests.

2: How are we going to chose topics moving forward, for example, by votes or by Anet choosing them etc?
Using the in-game poll system you had in the BETA. Let the player base decides and not the small forum active players. By using the in-game beta polls you would also encourage players to go to the forums if the selected topic is amongst their interests.

[Bugged] Marionette Dodger

If you use a skill (utility) that makes you invincible or if you block attacks from the ennemy, you won’t have any achievment (Dodge + All champs killed)

Exact, and if you die/get downed you won’t either.

I already got all achievements and the sword one was one of the easier ones to get, i was just camping near the generator (where sword can’t get) except when the doggies areas were in the outside circle. at that point i was just near the dog, meleeing it, but yet close enough to the generator to dodge back if sword appears.

Where is a good spot for leveling?

Leveling up with the zerg train is the easier way to miss the 90% of the game and not learn how to play your profession.

GW2 has a lot of maps and a lot of leveling areas. If you are lvl 12 and you find hard to continue, go to another 0-10 level map and get experience there, try another weapons, try other skills, try other strats, etc.

As example, it’ll be great if we could see:

Also, immersion in any dungeon is just… no, however Divinity’s Reach on Tarnished Coast has got you covered if that’s what you’re after.

You clearly never played a raid in Lotro. When you had to be inside 4-5 hours, believe me, the inmersion was pretty fun for a “dungeon”. There were people roleplaying between enemies pulls and having fun. Others, the elitists, were just having a blast killing everything and never running past enemies :P.

I think that’s what i miss in gw2 dungeons.

How many people at a time could be in a lotro dungeon? Just wondering.

Also, I think it’s fair to say I will not RP with randoms in a pug. With my guild, however, all dungeons are outlets for RP and even ERP

there are dungeons of 3 players, 6 players, 12 players and 24 players. The last ones are considered raids, though. Nevertheless, i was just suggesting that getting immersion in a dungeon is pretty fun and also possible. Anet has done a lot of things right, but dungeons isn’t one of them, except imo Aether.

If WvW can do it, why can't we?

I play how i want, I never do WvsW and I have a commander tag.

However… i already leaded 17 succesfully marionette kills. I bought it specifically to lead PvE content and i’m familiar with the unknown factor of only PvE players about commanders.
1: When it takes to balance lines, don’t use /supplyinfo because people won’t stack, just count them as usual.
2: When you need to tell them about an specific champion or anything only specific to your line, don’t use squad chat. It’s encouraged to either use /say or /map channel with this start “Line 2: do X or Y”
3: We never stack might or use combos before the portals, because as much as i’d like that everyone runs to the portal in time, there’s always 15+ lazy players that never get in time.

As much as i’d like if people help in the squad chat, there ain’t no way that everyone knows how that works, and explaining in before the event might be too hard for them to understand. So… i keep it simple, i just use my tag and i make 4 more use their tags for a simple and easy reason: To tell newbies in the event that are 5 different paths to defend, without a word.

Except that, your commander tag is pretty much useless in pve except in really weird situations. You need to try to reach everyone as a normal player. Use say/map channels, teamspeak, personal whispers if someone seems afk or ask for a question and multi-tasking conversations all the time.

I think that’s what i miss in gw2 dungeons. A fast run can be done witn random players and you won’t create a bound with them in 10 minutes. However in long runs you will for sure make some friends since you need to do serious teamwork with them or plan strategies. Aether encourages that.

the easier way to do this event if you miss 20 players is NOT running, it’s to let chain 4 and 5 fail.

In my server we power up lanes 1-2-3 with 20-25 players and lanes 4-5 with 15 players. That way, we can defend all lines from phase 1, but lanes 1-2-3 have it easier to do the champions. When it comes to champ phase, lanes 4 and 5 try to beat them, it’s funny how they sometimes suceed with 15 players when lane 3 fails with 25 players. Nevertheless, either we suceed or we fail, we NEVER move people across lines. We just wait patiently for the 2nd rotation. As soon as the 2nd rotation starts, the chances that lane 1 and 2 defeat their champions is really high, so… it’s done.

Really easy, not messing with players running around, nobody ever moves to another lines and event succeeds 100% of the times with the “fail bar” at 50%. I will never get why people mess up the fight running around, we had 6 consecutive wins with this strategy instead of running to other lines.

3/16 suceed runs were in overflow, all other 13 were done in main server. (also a lot of fails in both sides).

Only 5 combat skills???

5 weapon skills.
5 alternative weapon skills if you swap (i changed the swap button to the key “º” to make it easier).
5 proffesion/racial skills

At lvl 80 you will always have 15 skills to use in-combat, and if you add the combos that you can trigger between your 2 weapons, you won’t be bored. Nevertheless, the trick to fully enjoy GW2 is to think that your 2 weapons complement each other.

As a matter of fact, you should be counting with the skills of another weapon even if you don’t see it in the screen. As example: I know that my warrior bow skill 5 immobilize targets, but i’m using my greatsword to fight melee enemies. Then I noticed another enemy will attack my friend with really low morale, so i swap to bow quickly and immobilize the target that was going to hit my friend, then i continue shotting arrows or trying to kill the enemies with my bow skills until i can swap to greatsword again.

Swapping is one of the most important things in gw2.

i like Aether… it’s probably the only one dungeon that really feel like a dungeon. Inmmersion is lost in all the others and the speed runs only make it worst.

Unforgiving Mechanics Require Practice.

The issue with the bombs is that they produce no AOE circle.

And i think the 4th one, the overgrown horror, is nasty in its insidiousness. The shout/scream (thankfully cone AOE marked now) do little to no direct damage but put out a pile of confusion. And the periodic AOE produce a secondary black AOE that puts out torment.

End result is that if you move you die, if you stay still you die, and if you attack you die. And not every profession have a easy way to clear out multiple conditions in a single go.

The 4th boss is really easy to dodge ALL damage, he’s probably the easier champion in the whole event. The cone AoE can easily be avoided unless you are really…. really… slow. Then, the other AoEs can be around him in the center or around the edge in the outside circle. To get 0 damage from this champion you just need to do either a dodge towards center or a dodge outside center.
I personally don’t see where is the “hard” part of that. You can avoid all the attacks of that enemy since they’re all about 3 simple mechanics.

The 5th or 3th champ, however, their attacks are for sure random, but the 4th one? no way.

With no offense, guys, this just proves how much a nerf is really needed for zerkers. A boss that should last several minutes shouldn’t die that fast. By killing it that fast, a group can ignore most of the mechanics of the fight and have a faceroll while the other “play how you want” people would have to deal with a lot more problems. That’s not now a problem of choice, it’s a problem of game balance.

Nevertheless, 7 seconds was an impressive time for this.

if the npcs indeed take the place of a player that should be fixed asap. 2-3 seconds of invulnerability would be indeed great since i’m also slow loading and i get several hits before i can even move. This specially problematic when the 4th champion (the doggies) are doing their frontal cone AoE to the place where users joins the platforms and they’re not loading yet.

I killed the marionette 16 times already and i like how everyone needs to know the mechanics. Nevertheless, i think the best fix for the issues most players find would be to allow to people that destroyed their generator to go to another platform, or port them randomly to the other platforms. once i though the world events were insane hard to do, since there was 50 players killing the caledon worm and 100 players killing jormag’s claw the first time i saw those enemies.

Some months later i had the chance to kill the caledon worm with only 5 players. We were literally 5 of us killing it, and 2 of us were hunting down the husks to remove the heal factor from the fight. We won, the timer was almost on 0 but we won. That same month, i went to jormag in a time when nobody else was interested. We were 15 players there and they didn’t wanted to try because it was “of course” impossible. We tried, i told them that it’ll be great if we could at least do 50% damage as someone needed the achievement. Then, eventually, we noticed that we had 12 minutes left when we had 50% done. At that moment we decided that we would gonna kill it. We focused into the fight, we had a hard time protecting golems, the enemies were hitting hard, champions around… but you know what? at the 0:20 seconds timer… Jormag’s Claw died… against only 15 players.

The overflows can suceed some content, the problem is the people not willing to try because they can’t faceroll some content. The smasherbuttons that ignore mechanics (such as the healing enemies in caledon worm). Some fights might be hard, Tequatl and even the marionette requires a lot of people, however it can be done in an overflow, as long as there is people interested, willing to give the enemies a hard time and push theirselves to the limit.

Baruch Bay usually does it at 00:00 (midnight). However, you’ll face 2 big problems.

1: it’s an spanish server and you’ll have a hard time understanding the people there.
2: They usually jump to other servers (or overflows) before the event starts, that way they remove all the AFK players that are in the map. (And if that happens, they say name of next server in the public teamspeak, but again, you won’t understand it unless you speak spanish).

Besides baruch bay i don’t know about other servers. It’s worth a try but… i really hope you can find a better alternative.

/facepalm That one don’t have skelks and the entrance is not in a pool of water, the entrance is a gong…

You are probably referring to the puzzle in Gendarran, southeast of that map. The small pool matches, the skelks also, and the mini-dungeon. However there’s not a key and you don’t need a key. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Swashbuckler%27s_Cove

There is also a puzzle where there’s skelks around and a door closed in http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fawcett%27s_Bounty However that one is not accessed through a small pool of water, it’s accessed through a big river.

My last guess it’s a dungeon that it’s not part of a jumping puzzle, however that one is accessed through a door that requires an special way to open it with an npc in a town nearby (he has the key). There is a lot of darkness inside that and torches to be light in order to keep the enemies away. All enemies are skelks and champion skelks. I don’t remember the name but the entrance was an ice door in the west side of the map beneath hoelbrak (i think).

I succesfully leaded 11 Baruch Bay marionette kills, but i believe my server killed her at least 4-5 more times while i was sleeping.

Happened to me while defending in phase 1. I decided that i would try to get me killed to fix that, so i did removed my armour to my inventory, then i did move to enemies and tried to hit them… and i didn’t expected to shot arrows, but my character did.

I believe removing my armour did fix that. Needs more feedback about that.

If the marionette has taugh us anything, is that a low level can destroy our gameplay joining the marionette event and failing at champ. The opposite side it’s also a problem, the marionette breaking down the gameplay of a low level player just completinghearts or leveling up and marionette failed event kills him.

I suggest to put this kind of events in lvl 80 maps, that might fix the problem a bit, since not many low level players will suceed getting that far away.

Once we had the Aethercannon at 90% and we were fighting the phase 4 champions, the dogs. I am in one of the platforms with 4 more random players. It was one of our first attempts and we didn’t know what to expect, so we dodged the orange areas and suddenly… we all 5 die. None of us noticed that blue area is what really hurts, not orange ones. It was about to be a fail, all other rooms were doing ok except mine. Lucky for me I am a warrior.

I told the group to not stand in the blue areas, I did revive with vengeance, used the banner of war, it did Revived all the 4 players and then i died 10 seconds later. The 4 guys in my group managed to kill the champion, they destroyed the generator with 4 seconds on the timer and the chain was broken. Later on the marionette died and we won the event.

I never felt more needed than that. Someone from the other rooms told them that a warrior sacrificed herself to rez the other 4 guys and it made me smile. A couple of players were saying “that’s our hero! build her a statue!” and stuff like that.

That’s a war story that i’ll never forget ^^

NA server to guest to for Marionette?

The marionette is really easy if your server accepts the 2nd rotation tactic. That’s done by allowing a fail on purpose on lanes 4 and 5.

This is how my server (Baruch Bay) killed the last 9 marionetters:
Lane 1 gets 23-27 players
Lane 2 gets 22-25 players.
Lane 3 gets 20-22 players.
Lane 4 gets 15-18 players.
Lane 5 gets 15-18 players.
We usa that strat because it’s unlikely that we’ll get 25 on all paths. You need 15 on each path to defend phase 1, however you need 25 to complete phase 2 easier. So… our server makes sure lines 1 and 2 are in a really good shape and this is what happens:

Line 1 kills their champs (Hit in the back while 1 person tanks. If enemy is chasing someone, don’t run, just stop while others kill it, they dont hit hard).
- Lines 2 kills their champ (They follow a random player, that player must move the champ to the mines. In order to do that easily, everyone stand behind a mine, that way if he decides to choose 1 of you, he’ll hit a mine before reaching you. Once stunned by mine, dps until they move again).
- Line 3 tries to kill their champ (big enemies, they do a spin attack that can instakill melee players, try to be at maximum range unless really need. This enemy can also drop some bombs that stay in the battleground for a few seconds before exploding).
- Line 4 fails their champ.
- Line 5 fails their champ.
They both try, of course, because a suceed there would be awesome, however be expected for the fail.

(Champ 4 are doggies that put a blue area that usually wipes groups. The orange area is a warning, the blue one is the one that wipes so much people there. They also put confussion and you need to cure it or don’t hit while it lasts)
(Champ 5 are humanoid mechanic enemies that split into 2 when they die and charge to enemies. One of the easier ways to deal with them is to stack them up with Guardians GreatSword skill 5 or any other skills that affect groups. Nevertheless, this is just a dps race and can be done by any group, no need zerkers but zerkers will do this phase really faster and easier than others).

Until now you have 3 chains broken and you have the cannon meter at 50% (assuming that defense in all paths has been done perfect), now is time to enter the second rotation.

Lane 1: they kill the 4th champ, the doggies.
Lane 2: they kill the 5th champ, the ones that split.

Optional fix (if lane 3 couldn’t kill their champ in the first rotation, that’s ok, you’ll enter 2nd rotation with only 2 chains broken. At that moment it’s encouraged to complete champs 3-4 with the lines 1-2 and then make 3 players from each of the lines 4-5 move to the lane 3. That way, the 3rd line will have 6 more players to complete the last phase and they will fix their own misstake.

The 2nd rotation strategy has been succesfully done a lot of times. We got 9 marionettes killed in the past day using this strat. Other strats like the ones on dulfy (to go use people from lane 1 to help lane 4) might works for some servers, but it has been a fail to our server, a big fail. So… we’ll stick to the 2nd rotation strat since it works 90% of the times, it’s easier, and you don’t need people running around and screwing things out.

Try to lead it in teamspeak or through map chat. If you can make 100+ players understand this strategy, it’s almost 100% done. Have fun.

P.S. This same strat worked in an overflow the only 1 time that I dropped in overflow 30 minutes before it starts. It takes about that time to make sure that everyone understood what to do (or a bit more since i’m not native english and we had germans and french players also). However we won. It’s all about balancing the lines and knowing how to deal with champs.

About marionette achievs, you need to match these 3 requisites.

1: You must dodge or never get hit by a marionette attack (if you dodge 1 attack, but then you get hit by the next one, you lost it).
2: You must not die and not get downed (i think) to get it.
3: Your entire line must suceed, not only your room, but all 5.
