A suggestion to have fun as a warrior: bow… and big groups of enemies.
It’s not the faster way to kill enemies, but i always got a lot of fun slaughtering 10 enemies at the same time with my bow of fire and some kiting/dodging. You just drop the maxed fire field, then immobilize the champion/veteran/elite with skill 5, kill the other guys with the 1-2-3-4 skills and enjoy how they burn… burn… BURN!!! /evil

I think its rather telling that the most toxic posters in the this thread are Elrey and Nemesis.

Is there a thing such as “reverse” elitism, a sort of a race to the bottom to avoid being called “meta” or a net build?

See our point of view: For us the toxic players are the ones forcing everyone else to use their meta builds… or kick. Nevertheless, let’s not take it personal and let’s focus on the topic.

Okay Elrey, enough is enough.

Saying that he should avoid these groups is fine,but implying that they all have bad attitudes and stuff is very judgmental and you should be ashamed of yourself, because you are the one who is perpetuating this.

LittleLepton, you are always against me in this forum it seems, and i can understand it since we have different point of views. Nevertheless, the OP post (and even the topic) is stating the problem of being kicked out of a group just if you are not pro. The OP personally wasn’t kicked (didn’t said it at least) but the kicks are outthere.

My experience with the LFG at least in my server is kicks everywhere. Yesterday i was kicked twice just because I joined with my necro in an LFG group that only said “path 2”. A newbie necro that is trying the LFG for the first time would also be kicked, without knowing why, because of the elitist of the LFG community.

Maybe you are a white knight and help newbies if they join your groups, however most of the zerker/speed runs in my LFG servers (no idea if it’s the entire EU Roster or only some servers) end up with that problem. People kick too much, i’ve seen even 8 kicks in the same run + replacing people.

I try to be possitive and i try to give an alternative to the OP problem. Since he’s stating “Pro or GTFO” in the topic, I’d definitely give a third option: Not pro, neither GTFO, but casual newbies run.

About rewarding, i was speaking about “fun rewarding”. Wich in my opinnion is more fun to die while fighting really hard than facerolling another stacking bored run. Why? Because if you died after fighting really hard it only means that something pushed you to your limits, and you still need to improve. Isn’t that fun? A challenge, not faceroll.

That is of course my personal point of view, as I always say, but please, notice that i was giving just a different option trying to cover all the point of views in the dungeons community.

Every discussion should be like Ying and Yang, black and white. There’s no point on giving an advice if someone else can’t take it down. Because of that reason, I always give my personal opinnion about the LFG and dungeons, and if i’m wrong, someone will take me down. Just understand that you are also wrong sometimes, and at least from my point of view, “pro runs” is what it’s destroying the dungeons community, so i encourage more casual runs.

I would like to clarify also, that NOT all zerker/speed runs/pro groups have bad attitude. In my original post i was giving the advice to avoid groups that seems to be created by bad attitude players, but didn’t said by far that all zerker groups are bad attitude players. Actually i was thinking in some LFG groups like “+4AP or kick”. That simple text in the LFG it’s screaming “i’m a bad attitude player and won’t tolerate you if you make a misstake”.

Wrath, the community is kinda messed up right now. There’s too much elitism in the LFG, but there’s a way to avoid that. Only join groups that are not zerkers, rush runs, speed runs or anything that seems to be created from an impatient bad-attitude player. Going with newbies will be longer, yet more fun rewarding 90% of the times.

My main is a Warrior using Bow and a condition damage/duration armour set build. That’s not common, i know, but it works for me… pretty well. I’ve seen groups of 4 zerkers trying to clean some trash mobs in Arah and wipe extremely fast, and thats why they skip the monsters in the next attempt. Here with my condition ranged build? I soloed that trash pull in their face.

I wrote a long spiel on everything that was wrong with this statement. I then deleted it after realising you’re just a PuG who plays how he wants. And you’re even posting in a thread about skillful players, trying to brag , and bashing how other people enjoy the game.

My god, this game, no hope for a dungeon team, no hope for the player base.
Why do I come here?

Dolan, skilled doesn’t mean efficient. I’m aware that i’m not the most faster or I don’t have the best build. However I know my enemies skills and how to time my dodges/skills to make me almost impossible to kill.

Playing good, not dying, positional awareness, swapping weapons to maximize skills and creating combos on the fly, adapting to the fights without dying and learning how an AI works… that’s what makes a player skilled. Their build is the less important part of a player, the build would only reduce or increase the time killing something.

If I can solo Lupicus and takes me 20 minutes, against someone that solo it in 10 minutes, would that mean that i’m not skilled? Of course not, skilled players can have a “how we want” build. The build doesn’t affect the skill of the player, just the amount of time doing X content.

Zerker Meta Gone? Great!

People complaining about “we don’t want the holy trinity” but they got the same failure system, just with another name. Right now zerkers don’t want Rangers or Necros or even Engineers in their zerker groups. That’s the same problem as we had with the trinity, where you needed an specific proffesion. Now the people needs warriors, guardians or mesmers, and will kick out other proffesions.

Isn’t that the same problem?

I think he meant that GW2 does not have Dungeons programmer/designer since Robert Hrouda left. The whole dungeon aspect of the game has been left to rot in the past months with no feedback from developers, only moderator visit the subforum to remove post asking for answer/suggestion/etc.

Oh… i didn’t know that. So… we have nobody for dungeons right now? That’s sad. It could explain why one of the end-game content is being lacking of love.

Makes no sense. I can understand it if someone leaves Anet, but a replacement should be put in his place the next day. Dungeons is in my opinnion one of the cores of PvE playerbase. Is there any new about new programmers for that?

Well, beta-testers can work in different ways. I’ve been doing it myself in a couple of games before.

1: By double checking –
With this approach, the programmers create some content and ship it in a beta client. The group of testers try it hard and fills a list with specific information of the bugs/exploits/problems of the tested content and send it to the programmers. The programmers fix everything and ship another beta client to those same testers and 2-3 new testers (new perspective). If there is not bugs, the content is ready to go live, if we find any big bug/exploit, the content is yet delayed to a 3rd beta client after the proper fix.
2: By working together with the programmers. Often i was playing with a Dev (years ago) where he could just get inside my dungeon and trigger specific events or stop some others on the fly. As example it could freeze a boos and make him inmune to hits, or give any possible buff/condition to the enemy. That way we as a duo tested so many possible strategies of what could happen if a boss is rooted near a corner, or trying to exploit the boss by having him perma-stunned or even perma-slowed to make kiting enemies easier while aggro was controlled. That gave that dev really accurate info about the fight, despite that he created it. The dev couldn’t know what i’d try in next attempt, that’s why he needed someone else for his tests, and I was always giving really weird strategies to try. Why did it work? because those “weird” strategies were never in the table, the dev was naive thinking that a player wouldn’t even try something like that. A fix was provided before someone tried it on live.

I was the second ivar’s champion in the world (Shiara was 1st one xD). That’s one of the most hardcore achievements that a PvE could get in any MMO 2 years ago. That’s something that takes 6 months, week after week, leading one of the most elitist groups of 12 players through the hardest raid (4-5 hours) in order to suceed for the title (random info here: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Ost_Dunhoth – You need to complete the raid in 24 different ways for the title).

I don’t like to brag (usually), but i’m sick of the assumption that pug community is bad in gw2. I am a PUG like 99% of my time playing gw2, and i am skilled here or any other MMO that i played before.

There will always be bad players, bad attitude players, bad leaders, random people (or even friends) forcing you to use a certain build. That’s not why I left other MMOs to come here. I came here because in GW2 you can be what do you want… and yet suceed. It seems the majority of the players are now used to do zerker runs, zerker builds, zerker yadda yadda. That’s not why I came to gw2 and I’m pretty sure that’s an issue of the game (I don’t mind if you are zerker and you don’t like my statement. The game was designed and sold as a place where you can choose your build and yet work perfectly in any dungeon).

Skilled players are still playing GW2, what is wrong is the way the dungeons are designed:
- Skipping should be impossible, kill to advance.
- Selling dungeons should be not worth.
- Zerkers should wipe more often against bosses than a balanced group.
- The dungeons are way too much exploiteable, get a group of hardcore testers and make them test the dungeon before it goes live. I bet they can find a lot of fails.
- Increase the reward for long runs. TA Aether should give more gold, CoF should give less gold.
- Tweak the enemies. Anet, you need to have a bit of common sense, how is Caudecus so hard for a fresh lvl 40 player? The enemies there are hitting insanely hard, and the point that they can 1shot players at 20m range is not helping. Caudecus should be easier, CoF should be harder. Crucible of Eternity is perfectly balanced right now.

P.S. Wasn’t my intention to write all of this… but seriously, i’m sick of how a good game is creating such a bad habit in it’s community of players.

WTS Arah Path..

I completed all Arah paths this week actually. Benn putting it off and putting it off since launch. (I don’t love most of the dungeons in this game) I was able to find groups for all without paying anything. Few of them too longer than others but I was able to find groups all the same.

I don’t see an issue.

i did the same. I just ignore the selling messages and only focus on casual ones (or i start a run myself asking for good attitude players willing to help)

[PvE] Dungeons fix against zerkers.

There’s been something a bit unfair in GW2 dungeons, and that’s Zerkers. They can kill an enemy faster than other groups, and making the choice of non-zerker stats a bit weird.

Sometimes, there are bosses that would do a big skill each 45 seconds but a group of zerkers can kill them in 40 seconds. In those cases it feels like cheating, since a group of worst geared players would have to deal with a harder enemy than zerker geared players.

The fix: Adaptative stats of monsters.
A system that would adapt the monster health to our dps would be perfect, because a group of fresh lvl 30 players could do Ascalonian dungeons in the same time as lvl 80 full geared players.

If the game detect that we have high DPS or zerkers in the group, the enemies health would need to be twice or more than the usual. That way the group would take the same time in killing them as a normal group, and would need to deal with the skills that most of the groups can ignore by being zerkers. It would also make more players gear up to survive longer or heal skills, since we would need it.

As example:
5 players with 1.000 DPS against Alphard: Alphard gets 100.000 health.
5 players with 5.000 DPS against Alphard: Alphard gets 500.000 health.

The average dps group and the zerker group would spend the same amount of time killing Alphard, and it wouldn’t punish the low dps players at all. They would instead be more used since you’ll want to survive longer.

I see a lot of problems and ways to exploit that system:
-The game should never adapt to 1 player alone, to avoid facerolling. The minimum health of enemies should be intended for 5 players.
-The game would not set the health of enemies when the dungeon is created. This prevents a group of 5 lvls 30 create the group and then swap to lvl 80 characters to kill them easier.
-The game would not set the amount of health based on our gear, since players could understand how it works and swap gear before a fight just to make it easier.

I have no idea how to make it perfect, but I bet there would be a way to adapt the enemies health to us to synchronize the amount of time spent in a dungeon to be the same for zerker or not zerker. Giving us a choice to make.

i love the point that 1 single target can kill 5 of my friends and we need to team together to kill that monster. I love teamwork, not selfish playstyle. That’s why i like PvE over PvP honestly.

TA Aether path

Strawman argument. I was referring to just the last boss where pulling the strikers was easier and more pug friendly. You’re also making the assumption that it wouldn’t be announced that one person would pull the strikers.

I was actually having in mind that you announce who would pull strikers, but what happens if something goes wrong? I’ll give you an unexpected scenario.

-Player 1 needs to pull striker. He runs away from boss to do it, then boss inmobilize him at 20 meters with his immobilize skill to buff himself, then a cog drops on the player. He is not fast enough to remove conditions, use stability or dodge the cog, so he dies.
-Player 2 tries to do his job, but now you are slow in the timer and boss gets to tier 30, wich makes the big attack and electrifies a corner of the room, the kittens attack will probably kill 4 of them except you because you know what will happen if he gets to tier 30 and would use endure pain or dodge some of the hits to survive.

Result: Probably a wipe due to unexpected issue. Just because someone didn’t know the boss could immobilize and didn’t equipped a condition removal skill.

P.S. What does it means strawman? i’m honestly lost there, since english is not my native languaje.

What bothers me is not that zerkers do more damage, but the point that zerkers can ignore most of the mechanics due to killing bosses before they can use their skills.

If an enemy do a really big attack each 45 seconds but you kill the boss in 40 seconds… there is the reason of why I hate zerker. It’s cheating in a sort way of speaking.

TA Aether path

And you’re assuming a higher skill level than what you’ll find in most pugs that do that path. If they all had that skill level then they would not be having issues. Just look at what has been stated in this thread. This is why I suggested having one person lure the striker as opposed to luring the boss.

It’s exactly the point on doing the ooze room, it’s a test about teamwork. Don’t do the puzzle all by yourself, never, let the pug players agreed on an strategy and do it. That way you’ll create a bound on communication, that’s the point on TA Aether. If you try to just do it yourself and never tell them how the fights work (for example, clockheart), they will never be able to suceed if there isn’t an experienced player in the group to lead them.

See the difference between your strategies and mines? You lead players to a succesfull run that can be done as long as someone knows how to counter-attack some specific mechanics to avoid the wipe. It requires an experienced player and 4 randoms following. Instead, I build an army of 4 players that knows exactly where to go, why to do any skill or how to succeed in different ways, since they eat up each piece of information about enemy skills. The next time they go there, they can lead it with no problems at all.

After you leave, your groups might not be able to complete the dungeon if there isn’t someone leading them efficiently. Because they don’t know what happens in the unexpected cases (as example, if you don’t tell them, they wouldn’t know that whirlwind always chases the player most far away in the Foreman Spur, and if they 5 try to melee and nobody noticed that you were at range on purpose just to “capture” all whirlwinds and unaffect the group, then they would wipe). My groups would learn how to lead it, each 4 of them, and how to deal with all enemy skills.

Sorry, man, it wasn’t my intention to take you down, but there’s way too many problems about giving players a tour instead of teaching them everything involved in the fight. A partial strategy like yours (as much as it works) it can be useless once something unexpected happens. This is just a personal advice that i’ve been using in MMOs for the last 5 years: Always prepare for the unexpected, specially in pugs.

P.S. Every pug player can become a pro as long as you give him a chance or two and explain them what is wrong. Assuming that they’re not skilled it’s the best way to destroy all teamwork required. Being skilled is not something that you born with it, it’s something that you learn and improve over time, so… help them to improve.

TA Aether path

Well we normally don’t fight him in a corner. With pug groups, it’s just easier to pull them as it only requires one person to know what they’re doing while the others mash the #1 key. When trying to pull him to a striker, you run the risk of him throwing out those gears that will quickly down someone or he does an attack that causes him to stop moving and wastes time. I think you only have about 15 seconds to explode a striker on him once you see the stacks start increasing.

Smashing boss while buffed is useless, since he’s inmune to all damage, he also cleans all conditions when he gets buffed. And you have 30 seconds, not 15, the buff tiers up from 1 to 30, one per second. Finally, the cogs that he throws are always throw with a “growl” sound and to where any ranged target is. So… you always know when and where will they drop, and you can easily move 2 meters and never get hit.

Other problems of smashing skills without knowing boss skills can be:
-Not knowing that he’ll create a big frontal 180º AoE 1200 range attack when he puts an arm up for 3 seconds. This one also builds up 3 tiers of Torment on you, so… if you are getting torment is like a timer to dodge: 1…2…3.. dodge! and the AoE is no problem at all, but you need condition clean for it or say bye to 5k health over time.
-He can melee grab someone and throw it into the electricity in the center of the room, depends on the position, since the grab will always throw you right to the opposite side side of the monster from where you are.

More random info: You can see when he’ll get buffed 5 seconds ahead of it, since a red line (area) will appear at 1000 range around the boss, that’s part of the boss animation with 2 arms up that tells you: hey, stop dps, i’m getting buffed and now i’m inmune to damage. This one inmobilize everyone if it’s not dodged and it has 360º to hit all around.

If the limit could be removed it’ll be great. However the bot spams is a danger. I hope they can find a good fix, you pointed severel good fixes there (laurels, AP, veterans).

It’s actually better to pull the strikers. If people try to pull the boss the. They’ll likely cause it to use its ranged attack and people will die. You just need one person to hit a striker once and then stack on the boss. The striker will then come within range of the boss.

Yes and No, It’s only better sometimes.
The holograms got a 2000 range of action, that means that if they do 1 step more than that, they reset no matter what and run back to their original position, making you lose your only chance to stop the buff. If the boss is in a corner and the hologram is in the opposite one, you can’t move the hologram that far away, you need to actually move the boss there.

I wish Elrey was on NA servers because i have tried this dungeon a few times with pugs and have yet to make it through. It is a wall for me that is ensuring that I NEVER get my “Dungeon Master” title or the satisfaction of having completed this dungeon path.
The last attempt I made with a pug group; we did pretty good until the clockwork and then we wiped repeatedly(granted because some party members insisted on dragging strikers to clockwork instead of clockwork to strikers) but after 2+ hours and 12+ wipes at clockwork, i had to leave out of frustration and exhaustion. I tried to be nice about it as i left and told them good luck with the run, but i had reached my limit. I fear that I may never finish this path.

I’ve been there before, some players are just stubborn trying the same not-working strategy. In thoses cases (after several wipes) what I do is to try to fight not pushing myself, just random ranging the boss slowly until they die. Then, when all my team-mates are dead, i just Solo Clockheart and never bothering in rezzing while fighting.

All that you need to solo it is a ranged weapon and condition removal, no speed buff or any other special skill. Timing is a kitten, though, and if you miss to stop a tier 30… well, pray to be a warrior with endure pain or a necro to enter shadow mode (is that the name?), because otherwise it’ll hurt. Alternatively you can time the tier 30 kittens and dodge them. I always dodge 3 of them: dodge, dodge, whirlwind (i’m a warrior).

Is not the best solution, but if the group is really that bad, consider to solo it, sadly some people just never learn, not even after 10 wipes.

Nice job at tracking enemies skills and finding out how to counter-attack their mechanics. That was impressive to be done alone, however it’s also the way it’s intended to be done.

Rush runs and zerkers ignore the mechanics of the fights, you sir just noticed all of them and were ready to not let them kill you. Nice job there.

Also you can “rename” your friends. What I do is that when I add someone from a dungeon, I describe in a few words the context.

Same as i do. I got some people renamed as “Good for Aether” or “Nice warrior for Arah”.

Aside of the account related problem it would be good if a download link to the installer would be prominent on the homepage to avoid all the hassle when reinstalling the game. Even Guild Wars 1 had that already. Forcing players to log in to get the public download link is usability and user friendlyness at it’s worst.

Although I don’t support it entirely, I can understand why. If everyone can download the game, a lot of players willing to try if they can connect will download the game and consume a lot of bandwidth from Anet, wich is a waste of time. Making that only registered players can download the game, they only get the bandwidth used in the people that will play the game.

So… it’s just to save money, and i’m fine with that, as much annoying as it can be.

Am I wrong, Danicia?

Try to advice about positional awareness or stacking strategies. Only stack is like the worst habit to destroy a community since it creates the habit of faceroll and when something hard like Aether appears, the community gets lost. But also is needed in some fights, like Alpha in Crucible of Eternity, as example.

Terrible Lag

These jerks are bombarding mmo servers for 2 weeks already:

As you can see in the picture, they also blocked access to GW2 for almost 2 hours. I can guess they’re still messing up with the servers.

i’d suggest you start them on the level for them.

30: AC
40: Caudecus
50: TA
60: Sorrows embrace
70: CoF
76: The snow one, i forgot the name, wave’s honour?
78: Crucible of Eternity
80: Arah

If you don’t exploit them, and you do it in the order (story, path 1, path 2, path 3) they should be progresively getting hard in that order.

Actually there is an easy way to correct this if Anet wanted :
A three point buff for the dungeons.
Characters get those three by defeating the main bosses. Only those with the three buffs get the ending reward.

The problem for this is: If someone disconnects due to lag or other issue (real life aggro, running out of time), the chances of someone joining just to help are very low. That would destroy some dungeons.

Although i’m the kind of running slow dungeons and not rush runs, running all bosses and such… i see a problem if people can’t join after someone leaves.

Is there a point to this thread? It eludes me.

The OP goes to a dungeon to have fun. Running past enemies, not killing them, skipping cinematics and more other known habits of rush runners removes the fun.

The point is pretty clear, he (and me also) just want to go to a dungeon to have fun, not to get rewards, hence clearing the dungeon fast is a way to reduce the fun he expects from it.

So… he’s just asking for people to not do rush runs when he start groups for All levels, and asking to rush runners to adapt to the groups that they join. If they want a rush run, then join a rush run, but for an “all levels” run, it can be understandable that you’ll get newbies and going fast is a bad idea.

a minor fix in your advertisement could help with that. Although it’s not the perfect answer, you could try to put “NO rush” or “only newbies”

wanna kill the queensdale champ zerg? nerf the drops to zone-level/quality only out of the champ boxes.

This is probably the better fix. Zergs would have no reason to go there and the area would be again for the new players. And 20-30 new players against the events, using the map, should be enough to kill them, as i guess it’s the intended way.

The problem
Sadly, a lot of new players are getting overwhelmed by the rude players of the zergs, since they don’t allow you to kill 1 champion alone. That’s eventually leading to new players getting harassed just because 30 facerollers are greedy and selfish.

Right now, i got reported because i killed oakheart 3 times in a row, trying some skills on him as he’s the perfect target for some of my skills (slow, immobilize, etc).
Yeah… it’s getting that ridiculous, reported because you kill an enemy.

I’ve been noticing also how some new players are lvl 40 and leave the game because they were only following the zerg and got bored of killing the same enemies. They never left the map because the common sense told them “if so many high level players are doing this, is because must be the most fun content in the game, and it’s useless to do anything else”.

The Fix
Make champions loot And achievement only availible once in a month (same as world events work, behemoth, jormag claw… but daily). That way, the players won’t have a reason to farm the same 3-4 champions all over. Actually, they would go all over all the maps, populating tyria and helping players in a lot of other maps because they’d need to visit a lot of areas to complete the monthly achievement.

Since you are running this daily, ever gotten anything worth mentioned from the 5 extra chests from the end that requires keys to open?

2 exotics “of dreams” dropped in (more or less) 60 runs, each one was sold for 100g.

i always fight with the right click of the mouse pressed. Then i use Q W and E to move. I literally never ever use A or D, that way all my dodges goes to where i want.

Thats the issue here though, you have no chance to dodge when she pulls. Am sorry to say but this fight is bugged to hell right now.

Stay at maximum ranged range (yeah, 15-20 meters away) and you’ll see when she does like a dancing move (no idea how to describe it better in english). That’s the animation that tells you she’s doing the pulling thing in 0.5 seconds. Just dodge when you see that animation and keep fighting at 20 meters away, never getting close. Another warrior and me (also a warrior) did that strategy and we killed it with our bows. Was slow but it was easy. You just need to save your dodge for that animation. We also were newbies and took us about 25 wipes.

The fight is not bugged, is just hard

Have you tried tell them to kill Slick first?

If the group has made it as far as 1st boss, it’s because they have the abbility to do the ooze room. If they can suceed with 4 different roles in ooze room, then only 1 role is piece of cake. That’s one of the better reasons to kill Sparki first.

2nd reason: Slick does almost 0 damage, a simple banner can heal the group for what he does. So… once you killed the robot, you only need to clean oil and faceroll it.
3rd reason: Slick has 250% health more than Sparki, takes a lot of time to fight while u need to clean oil and get fire attacks from him.

Since all the big damage in that fight comes from Sparki, killing him is the best choice. After that, slick does more oil shots but if your group goes close to him (less than 10 meters), the oil will be easy to clean because you dont need to move the ooze too far away.
