And spirit rangers are easy to beat, unless they use their op elite.
Also I’m a bad teef.
This and sleight of hand + mug are the best combo for a teef.
The problem isn’t Lyssa runes, the problem is that the other runes are kitten.

As someone already said, it should work as withdraw, without the cast time but you can’t use it while stunned or some control skill.

It is not almost instant. The main nerf from it comes from the fact that you can’t cast it and straight away enter the animation to cast shadow return. Now it’s like any other skill where it queue’s up.
For example, if you just started your auto attack skill but need to shadow return, your thief will finish his auto attack then start casting shadow return. This is like 1 second delay at least.
I don’t see why it needed a nerf in the first place. Maybe it gave thieves a bit of movement play and gave them access to getting away from sticky situations even through they are stunned. Unfortunately, thieves paid for that with the lack of access to stability. Now, we can only get out of 3 stuns, assuming you have all 3 of our stun breakers on your bar, which isn’t usually the case, and they are on long CDs.

But you’re wrong on a few counts here.
I’ll go down the list of the stuff you said it gives you:
Condi removal/Immob/Dmg/gap closer – Yes.
Stun breaker – No! It USED to be a stun breaker but they removed that. Now it only brings you back when you shadow return. You are still stunned. If you were fighting in a flat area and you shadow returned, and they saw where you went, you’d still be in trouble, although it did give you a bit of breather space.
Infinite return range – Also not true. It brought you back exactly 1200 range. Granted this is relatively far, but a thief can’t do anything at 1200 range. If you ran past the 1200 range (say 1400 range), you’d teleport back to your original position + 200 range. This is how it works from what I’ve observed.Other than that I kind of agree. It was quite strong. Now it’s very much whatever. That 0.25 second cast time really makes it easy to counter. A single stun, and done. I think a middle ground is needed. I’m not sure how we can find it, but it is needed.

I really only enjoy Thief. Managing Initiative, the ability to shadowstep around, stealth, big crits. I really enjoy this play style. I’ve made a few alts, but none of them have interested me. I’m a Thief, always will be. I can’t wait to see what the next patch brings that I have to adapt to.
I wish all thieves were a bit more like you.

You have one stunbreaker which works as two in one(shadowstep), you have another which is a signet, Also if you are fighting vs two or more enemies you can use steal to get a gap between them.

IS, it’s already an OP skill, even without the spam, you can instantly teleport to your foe and also immobilized it. That’s pretty insane in this kind of games.
I don’t know why so many thieves are crying and saying their class will be useless after this patch.
Also this “nerf” was pretty obvious, if IS can’t break stuns then the common sense is that you can’t teleport away if you’re in CC, it’s just common sense.
Btw, I’m using s/d and I will be using it after this patch.

I’ve played 4 matches, I lost 3 and won 1 but in all of them the match was pretty even.
To me Rangers are the most fun class to play in this game.
They are pretty strong and can be really hard to beat.
It’s just people want it to be simple and kill foes with 1111 (Aka spirit ranger).
Wanted to hop in here and say that a rating reset will not touch lifetime stats like games played or won. You will keep the total number of games played for each rating type.
like in wvw people get´s dolyak finisher , veteran of the mists title and some chest of rewards…

Well I don’t think it’s a problem with the strategy so much as people think they’re good when they’re not.
For example, the few matches I’ve played with Caed on the opposite team, he’s done a lot of far point assault. Only he’s actually good enough to carry like that. Usually I see people failing to even get a neut and losing the 1v1 or dying as soon as a second opponent comes to reinforce.
If you have the right build and an accurate view of your own skill, it can be effective. Most people don’t, though.
That only works in specific cases like the one you said.
A good player can easily take far vs a bad player, but if a good player goes far and confront another good player then probably the guy who went far will die or simply will leave.
The few times I’ve played against caed he usually dies at far.
I really don’t know why people still do this.
Even people rank 40+ go to far and die fighting there while we lose mid.
Today I said some things to a mesmer who went far, he told me “I’ll keep going far only for you to get mad”.
I was like ok kitten you.
+2, I don’t know but sometimes I get huge lag spikes in solo Q.
I’m not saying they are bad. I’m saying that there are better options for a team to be using then having a ranger dedicate their build for traps. On their own, they are a good option. The trap build is a good build, useful for soloing camps and just generally picking up some sorely missing AoE skills otherwise.
That being said though, my point is that because they haven’t gotten any love to compete with the games power creep, there are other options on other classes that are just better, which depending on the game mode (like PvP, WvW, and even dungeons), makes a world of difference when looking to optimize your teams composition.
