Sorrow’s Furnace Commander
“You’re the mount, karka’s ride you instead, and thus they die happy!”-Colin Johanson
To be fair, most 8-bit games didn’t even have an opening cinematic, they just threw you into the game and assumed you had read the story in the instructions pamphlet.
+1 vote for letting us skip the intro cinema.
In summary of what’s already been said…
SAB will disappear after April, but will return (temporarily again) at a later time.
The currently available sections of SAB (1-1, 1-2, 1-3, and 1-4) will return when SAB does.
The existing super weapon skins will likely not return, but a different set will be offered in their place.
Custom Arenas are great and all, but you know you’d get lots of love if you also tossed in the ability for in world dueling.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Costume_Brawl
But at least for dueling I’d say it is basic for an MMORPG.
How are 1v1 battles “basic” for a “massively multiplayer” or “role playing” game? One of Guild Wars 2’s biggest emphases is on teamwork, so it’s completely understandable that PvP without a team is a low priority.
If you’re doing the bare minimum for the monthly I don’t recommend doing the audio logs, since that will be the most time consuming. I did the four dailies, spent a few hours in WvW and the monthly essentially completed itself. You can get the 50 WvW player kills, 100 veterans, and 100 events without even trying.
But if you do insist on collecting 150 audio logs, use the dulfy guide to see where they are, and remember that you can get each one once per day.
And now the logical follow-up question:
What happens if both teams reach 500 at the same time and both teams have the same total player score?
Great job NSP at keeping us (SF) from your EB keep last night, even after we had knocked down three walls and killed your keep lord.
legend of zelda doesn’t have a max count or fancy colored texts, why should SAB?
It does change the color of the rupee though, so why shouldn’t SAB change the color of the bauble?
challenge accepted.
around 60 golems from elonas reach – around eastern
O_O
And I thought our 33 golems last week was a lot
Defending can actually be more rewarding. Defense events complete every few minutes, while assaults often last much longer.
What they need to do is fix participation detection. Right now, defending is much harder to get credit for:
Standing in the circle at the end of an assault (on anything from a sentry to stonemist castle) will get you gold credit even if you didn’t do anything.
While defending, you can contribute countless supply and blueprints towards siege, repair gates and walls, and even get a few kills, and still only get bronze or silver credit.
Assaults need to detect actual participation (NPC kills, player kills, structures damaged, siege built). Two days ago I created a treb, provided most of the supply to make it, defended said treb on my own, used it to knock down two walls of a tower, killed most of the NPCs in the tower with some friends, and I didn’t get any credit because I wasn’t in the circle when we finished capturing the tower.
Defense is a little better at detecting who contributed but needs to be more lenient detect creation of siege within the area that is under attack.
I think it’s time to pay attention to what should be a rule in multi player games:
1 player should never be able to cause trouble to 2 or more players. No matter what the situation. If 1 player is able to do that, something needs to be buffed/nerfed somewhere.
I disagree with this 100%. I very skilled player should be able to at least “cause trouble” to two other players. What you propose is a game where skill doesn’t matter, experience doesn’t matter, builds don’t matter, gear doesn’t matter, decision making doesn’t matter, and the only thing that does matter is having more people on your team.
The thing that bothers me about Rox is that she’s named after a golem.
Abolish commander chat suppression NOW!
I can just imagine the spambot commanders in LA now…
This might have been fixed, I don’t think it’s happened in the past two weeks.
It already does that…
Right you are. I suppose there’s no excuse for the confusion then.
While I think there is a good argument for this, we haven’t discussed it enough yet for me to say if we would or would not want to go this route. We are looking at the commander system generally, because we think it can be improved upon, and as part of that discussion we’ll almost certainly look into how you become a commander.
Thanks for the timely reply Devon. On a related note, will we be able to store Badges of Honor in the collectible section of the bank any time soon? I believe a system was in the works to be able to store badges or dungeon tokens in collectible storage, but they weren’t included in the major collectible storage update because the system to store more than 250 of one item in there wasn’t ready. It would make storing 10k badges a lot more feasible.
Only change it if there is a PvE equivalent offered. We honestly need more guild management abilities that the commander title helps alleviate somewhat.
One small issue with badges vs gold for blue dorito is that badges can’t be transferred between different accounts.
At launch, I’m sure all guilds pooled their gold to help their WvW leader buy their tag. New guilds probably would like to continue to be able to do so.
I’m not saying to remove the 100g option, just to also add a 10k badges option. Like others pointed out, at least 10k badges means you’ve spent some time in WvW, unlike 100g.
Why use badges or gold? Now that we have WXP, why not just make it once a player gets rank 100 they get a badge that can be viewed on the map. Different badge and color depending on your rank. Players could squad join or ignore it completely if they wanted through a toggle in options.
WXP or WvW achievements would be great to include, but neither currently reward items that you could spend to get the compendium, so that solution would require a whole new system. I really like the idea of changing the color of the commander icon with every 50 WXP ranks though.
Badges – too easy to get them and Commander is not a person tagging most of mobs, when a commander fights,he is doing something wrong or there were much bigger zerg of enemies
Is a commander who doesn’t fight really a commander? On my server (Sorrow’s Furnace) all of our best commanders lead the front line.
3. Run around hitting ettins, Sons of Svanir, etc
I was thinking more along the lines of Norn, Charr, Human, Sylvari :P
WvW then
Waypoints are something worth defending.
That being said, I do wish players would defend objectives and play in enemy borderlands more often. If they bring back orbs of power they should provide bonus karma or magic find rather than a competitive advantage though.
you think we havent tried? we got 30man zerg camping the gate, he still slips pass… he hits the gate and instantly restealth… you cant even see him, the npc guards dont even have time to react…
Sounds like either Revealed isn’t working properly or you guys have really slow reaction times.
I might have missed something but I don’t see an actual proposition to “fix” night capping. How would we “fix” or “ease” nightcapping? Also, I think night capping is perfectly fine since it gives players a better chance to succeed without needing to run with a large group. I might be a little biased though since I fight for Sorrow’s Furnace, which has a large nocturnal population.
Also, giving more points to servers with less population would generate a lot of player hate. Elitist WvW players would be trying to threaten or bribe all of the PvE/PvP players off of their servers, and servers would be able to sabotage their opponents by simply sending accounts to their servers.
Real players roam as a Guardian.
Guardian is really fun for roaming because you can use crowd control to keep other roamers from escaping (binding blade, line of warding, zealot’s embrace, ring of warding, chains of light, wrathful grasp, or weight of justice).
Ele, Thief, or Ranger. Ranger is very potent in 1v1 if built correctly with a skilled player behind it, just know that you NEED a sword or greatsword to roam with it. Ele would be the strongest imo.
Edit: You are upscaled, probably not the best idea to roam then as any nonupscale with half of a brain will defeat you while kitten.
In other words: Any class with a movement speed +25% signet.
I agree with everyone saying that no class is particularly OP. Coordinated groups of heartseeker + shadow refuge thieves are evil though.
My loot button is just F, not control F. But during the zerg vs zerg and you lose, not being able to pick up 20 bags is horrible. Or being dead beside the sole bag (with the pre-cursor in it!) is sad. On the other hand, people coming back to get their bags, only to get farmed, is also good.
If it’s of any comfort, that sole bag doesn’t have a precursor in it. Rare and exotic drops appear in little chests rather than bags.
I find it amusing that the reset time is set by UTC, which is a European time zone, yet the European players are the ones complaining that it should be changed for them and left on UTC for American players.
As an American player I can tell you that the reset during primetime is terrible; the queues to get in to WvW are often about an hour long right after reset. You’re probably better off now with it at midnight.
I have an idea for a game mode called “Beat the bookah”.
How it works is, we Asura are given bats and we hit bookahs with them.
That’s all I got so far, but it sounds fun!
1. Make an asura warrior.
2. Equip The Ugly Stick (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Ugly_Stick)
3. Run around hitting ettins, Sons of Svanir, etc
4. ???
5. Profit!
Are there any plans to offer the Commander’s Compendium for Badges of Honor? It would make more sense than offering it for gold.
The current equivalency, according to the Siege Master merchants, is 1 badge = 1 silver. So a Commander’s Compendium would cost 10,000 badges or 100 gold.
Sounds complicated and would add extremely little value to the current system.
WvW Ultimate titles are the real legendaries in this game. They should put a badge on the character select page for them.
NO. BAD. I just finished my account badges
You know there are going to be more badges at some point, at least when we get the first expansion.
Sounds like there should be an internal boolean to disable combat mode in order to make things like SAB easier to develop in the future.
Erm.
No.This is rolling on the scoreboard.
0O0o0oH.
And someone said SF wasn’t an xfer server.
It’s not a transfer server by any means, I’ve been in SF since launch and we hardly ever see new WvW guilds pop up. SF does mostly PvE, so we didn’t have a lot of players or guilds focused on WvW back when that screenshot was taken because everyone was still working on their personal story, world completion, and legendary weapons. Now that many of us are content with our PvE situation, we’ve moved on to WvW. We also don’t have droves of players in WvW doing nothing but exploration and jump puzzles like we did back then.

its fine to get stuck in a tier if the matchup is balanced. and according to the scores, its pretty balnced
SF had more points than ET and FC combined for about 10 consecutive weeks. I don’t understand what you think is balanced about that.
I’d also like to point out that we’re now halfway through the current match and SF is winning in tier 7. GoM, on the other hand, is currently in second place in tier 8, although its a close match (which is good).
I suggest the leaderboard display both account name and most recent character in order to avoid confusion but still show recognizable names.
The MOS WvW tracker relies on player-entered information and doesn’t provide any information that Arenanet doesn’t already provide either on the leaderboards or on the in-game WvW tab. It’s a good system, but Arenanet shouldn’t use it as a model.
I’ve been playing on my computer with Windows 7 since the beta, but for the past few weeks GW2 has been crashing within the first 3 minutes of play about 1/3 of the time. Actually it doesn’t just crash the program, it takes Windows down with it, forcing my computer to restart. Is anyone else having this problem, is it a known issue?
Honestly, if you get suppressed in team chat in WvW you probably are spamming. I command players in WvW team chat all the time and have never been suppressed.
That leads me to believe you probably don’t communicate with your zerg as much as typical commanders. Are you in VOIP with a significant portion of those who are following you?
No, I’m usually not on a VOIP, although sometimes I use vent. I also haven’t convinced myself that the blue icon is worth 100g yet, so I have to lead without the aid of the icon or squad chat. Players typically follow where I lead anyway, often including players who do have the commander icon.
Also to note, I tend to give commands in team chat more than most of the commanders on my server (Sorrow’s Furnace), but we might just have a surplus of quiet commanders.
Honestly, if you get suppressed in team chat in WvW you probably are spamming. I command players in WvW team chat all the time and have never been suppressed.
It’s likely that one of those swords was actually a greatsword. If they aren’t all the same weapon type, you get back a random weapon type.
I like the thought of event-specific loot, but players should be doing the events for the fun, not because its their best chance at getting a precursor.
PS This should probably be moved to the suggestions forum.
This bug keeps happening to me but I can’t capture it with the in-game screenshot since it requires a hover-over. The wrong area’s stats will appear on hover-over, and can even change to a different area by zooming. This seems to happen with all maps in PvE and WvW.
Melandru has one too: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Melandru%27s_Gaze
If you feel like sending them out to random people I’ll take a stack or two to help with daily feast when it comes up.
So from what everyone is saying, to make legendary weapons actually represent a mastery of the game, Arenanet should…
1. Make all legendary weapons account-bound (before and after use so players can move them between their characters).
2. Reduce luck needed for precursor weapons (hopefully, eventually, addressed by the scavenger hunt).
3. Reduce Badges of Honor received from jump puzzles and increase those received from killing other players in WvW.
4. Replace gold requirements with skill requirements (such as guild commendations, laurels, or achievements).
I usually right click them and whisper them “hi”. Since they’re bots, they never even notice that I’ve whispered them, but it lets me click their name in chat to report them for botting.
We will have much more info on World Ranks very soon! In the mean time:
1. Everyone that helped with the kill will get full credit for the kill.
2. NPC’s are not worth World Experience
3. I can’t give all the goods away just yet!
4. Yes.Is it your design philosophy to encourage zerging in WvW then? I’m just trying to gather whether you want zerging to be the de facto method of gameplay or if you’d rather see zergs break up a bit.
Rewarding players equally for zerging or taking the more challenging small approach seems to encourage zerging above small group play.
It’s their design philosophy to encourage teamwork. Giving players higher rewards for smaller teams would discourage teamwork and lead to solo capping/farming builds.
The Coho Salmon in Eternal Battlegrounds (and likely in the borderlands too) don’t count for the daily ambient slayer achievement.
I haven’t had time to play in this week’s match yet, but if it starts getting close I might have to stop by to put the fear back in ET and FC.
While you guys are fixing HoM pets, can you please fix the Rainbow Jellyfish’s appearance? It has the exact same model as the Blue Jellyfish.
If a specific weapon/item is needed in a mystic forge recipe, a transmuted version of that item will not work in that recipe.
Players carrying 15 supply who kill a dolyak and loot the +5 supply actually lose 5 supply.
