I realized through my fights with you and your videos that your staff mark casting accuracy is very good!
even against blinking kiting mesmers you hit them with marks very accurately.
and you rotate out of shroud to mark very smoothly.
another great display!

I’m not worried at all.
I killed another two mesmers 1v1 today.
One was condi and the other was power.
Both jumped me while I was almost done clearing camp.
And I won.
I think it is now more a L2P issue.
Granted as a necro I couldn’t kill them if they didn’t want to be killed, but if they commit to the fight and not run, then well I have every chance to kill them.

How to fight Remorseless Quickdraw LB rangers

in Necromancer

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

I covered this in my build earlier but I thought this deserves a thread on its own. My own ranger is personally using this build now and I chow into enemies quite readily (especially necros – Lynnie killed my ranger previously with his nec… full credits to him, but I wasn’t using this build then XD)

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATRjEqQLL2wCesAVLG2DqtJCgEoL4eYI4BOgHhCW1A-T1yEwAB3foxhAApSoAPAgBXAgkKfSp+jGdBAMhRQJoijAAA-w

I have fought rangers similar to my own ranger build above and I don’t really know how to fight them on my necro.

Quickdraw Remorseless Wolf/Dog LB rangers
-4 disables on their pets alone,
-Longbow4 knockback,
-quickdraw gives them a 2-3 second double 900+ range leap =/ insane kiting and
-when swapping back to LB, quickdraw activates again for another double knockback or double rapid fire = doom
-not including all their utilites and elite =/

in open field without LOS, I can’t just turn around and run either unlike against a mesmer that blinks away to kite, because now ranger LB got a baseline of 1500 range.

This is pretty much the only enemy right now that I feel I have to play a perfect game to have a semi decent chance of winning.

Remorseless Quickdraw Rangers very strong

in Ranger

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

I used to use my ranger only in PvP, but now that I am starting to roam with him in WvW, I find him very strong. Not to the extent of OP, but still very viable and strong.

Quickdraw.

This trait allows a very fast recharge of the next skill you use on weapon swap.

I run with LB + GS. Either one of them has immense capability.

Usually I open with LB burst, then as the target gets closer and I need to kite, I swap to GS, use GS 3 to open up the gap, then 2-3 seconds later, another GS 3 to open up the gap.

and when I swap back to LB, I blast away with LB 2 or LB 4 first, double LB 2 blast on such short cool down or double knockback.

Gosh I feel very strong right now.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATRjEqQLL2wCesAVLG2DqtJCgEoL4eYI4BOgHhCW1A-T1yEwAB3foxhAApSoAPAgBXAgkKfSp+jGdBAMhRQJoijAAA-w

Edited to show the build I’m using. Quickdraw + remorseless + fury on weapon swap and fury on survival skills = a lot of opening strikes.

So deadly! I feel very strong roaming with my ranger. Not to the extent of being OP though.

Either LB or GS both have good skills to activate with Quickdraw depending on situation. You can do a quick double leap to open up the gap, you can do a double block, you can LB 2 or LB 4.

All deadly with quickdraw =DDDD

Quickdraw Remorseless Wolf/Dog LB rangers
-4 disables on pets alone,
-Longbow4 knockback,
-quickdraw gives a 2-3 second double 900+ range leap insane kiting
-when swapping back to LB, quickdraw activates again for another double knockback or double rapid fire = doom
-not including all utilites and elite

1) I run full zerk on my ranger except for one soldiers backpack and one celestial accessory and I have 200HP more than you, so you must probably be practically full berserker.

2) I ran into the same insane damage before on my necro but thankfully I saw the mesmer going into invis before engaging so I was prepared and well my shroud saved me.

Show us a sign of good-will PU mesmers

in Mesmer

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

I think a lot of people find PU mesmers OP, whether they are condi PU or interrupt/power PU.

Personally I don’t find them THAT OP. Yes it is hard to kill them, but learning and knowing how to fight them reduces the chances of them killing you and increases your chances of killing them.

Maybe all the PU mesmers forumners here can help us understand you better by sharing with us what are the enemy classes/builds that you find can fight evenly with you or even threaten you.

I am more interested in a 1v1 WvW roaming scenario but feel free to share your even/tough matchups in PvP as well.

What build are you using, and What are the enemy classes/builds that can threaten you or give you a good run for your money?

Maybe I can give my own perspective as a necro main first.

As a Signet Necro, I threaten pretty much any condi builds, including condi PU mesmers, with up to 4 condi transfers abilities. I have learned to time my transfers better, probing for aegis, waiting for dodges, landing a fear before transferring etc.

As a Soul-reaping traited Necro with up to 3 stun breaks and 1 stability, I also can sustain and return the favor against power/interrupt PU Mesmers by using Lifeforce to tank and breakstun their burst (the standard GS2 + blink + shatter + GS 3 + mantra stun combo) and constantly moving away from their clones when they are invis and not stay in their clone’s area of control which greatly reduces the amount of damage that I take, while waiting for my chance to deal them a decisive fear/burst.

I don’t know if PU mesmers feel threatened by a Signet/Soul-reap Necro, but personally having learned all these strategies above and more, like the timing of their invis, what their main skill animations look like, what to do if they are trying to stun/burst me, the decision whether to chase or run if they blink away from me to cast their heal or recast their mantra, I no longer feel like PU mesmers cannot be defeated.

Again, as a sign of good-will from PU mesmers, whether you are condi or power/interrupt, maybe you guys want to share with the rest of the community:

What build are you using, and What are the enemy classes/builds that can threaten you or give you a good run for your money?

Hybrid build for WvW solo roam

in Necromancer

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

Hey Denizens of the underworld.

I wanna share a hybrid roaming build I’ve been using the past weeks, very similar to what I had used before the major updates.
I think its now known as the signet build that many necros are running too, except most other necros I see running this is probably speced into full condi builds which I think is great, more survivability but will not be able to handle anti-condi builds like diamond skin eles, signet of renewal + wilderness survival rangers etc.

So I’m proposing this hybrid build that allows you to have a decent chance against most variations of builds out there.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWjc0QtN2ZDO2A/NOwFKYbGALQcrngPgmGtxXA-T1CFABNq+jc7P87JAAgnAgAHCAkUKkm2AmUWAlSs40BolSwAAIAzsMLzZG4oH9oH9oHtdOzjuzje0SBAzyK-w

I’ll now share what I feel are the pros and cons of this build.

Advantage of this build:
-Huge advantage against any condi builds with 4 condi transfers (dagger4, staff 4, Plague Sending, Plague Signet)
-Advantage against block-heavy builds like Guardians, Engineers, Shield Warriors, PU-Aegis Mesmers, GS Rangers (unblockable staff marks trait)

Decent of this build:
-Decent against boon-heavy builds like Steal-traited Thieves, D/D Elementalists (Signet of Suffering trait)
-Decent against stun-heavy builds like Rampage Hammer or Mace/shield Warriors, Interrupt Mesmers, Wolf/Dog LB Rangers with 3 stun breaks, 1 stability and Plague elite (spectral armor, plague signet, traited shroud stun-break and stability)
-Enough HP and Lifeforce to survive burst builds like Shatter Mesmers, DD backstab Thieves, Full glass any builds (plus weakening shroud trait)

Weak of this build:
-Weak against Quickdraw Wolf/Dog LB rangers (really I don’t know how to fight them. 4 disables on their pets alone, Longbow4 knockback, quickdraw gives them a 2-3 second double 900+ range leap =/ insane kiting and when swapping back to LB, another double knockback or double rapid fire = doom) in open field without LOS, I can’t just turn around and run either unlike against a mesmer that blinks away to kite, because now ranger LB got a baseline of 1500 range. Not impossible though, the odds are just stacked against you. Made better with our 3 stun breaks and 1 stability, but not by much when they got a double leap on a 3 second cooldown to keep their distance from you. This is pretty much the only enemy right now that I feel I have to play a perfect game to have a semi decent chance of winning.
-Weak against ShadowArts Thieves (the ones that heal and remove condis while invis) Not impossible to win against, need to time your fear+burst well, preferably after they use a stunbreak, much like against any other thieves, just harder I feel.
-Weak against Diamondskin Elementalists (but not impossible to win, we got enough power, but need to chain your shroud4 and staff mark spams to force him below 90% HP since they have insane protection and regen uptime and healing)

Concept:

Essentially the concept behind this build is: A mixture of power and condi damage so that you are not crippled against a foe that happens to build against power or condi, very strong condi tranfers to deal with condi heavy specs, and just enough HP+Lifeforce to handle full-glass power builds. So you cover every aspect of the fight, (with decent mitigation against both condi and power) without actually having an overwhelming advantage in a particular area, but at the same time, you don’t have an overwhelming disadvantage that cannot be surmounted either.

Any thoughts to improve this build are welcome.

Quit play the ez-mode crutch guard build that baddies play.

Srsly.

It’s no better than a PU Shatter Build.

You want to be “Pro”, create a playstyle that fits YOU. Perfect it and then it won’t matter what the “meta” is as it’ll fit YOUR playstyle.

Burn guards are easy to beat. Just don’t be dumb. Dodge their JI burst, kite the kitten out of them while applying pressure until they burn their Shelter & Purity, then crush them.

Burn is great against people not familiar with 6x stacks of burn ticks… you know, those good players who are watching their UI and not just mashing buttons.

Stop the meta madness yo, guard has so much more to offer.

not easy to dodge JI burst nowadays, with immobilize and blind on F1 available.

JI, F1 to immobilize + blind, with GS2 = devastating.

complaining noob needs anti mesmer help

in Necromancer

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

I just posted some thoughts on this in the mesmer forum so I’ll just copy and paste here with some added points for necros.

I think the OPness is that mesmers have high invis uptime, and a mimic skill that allows quick recharge of say blink, or invis, and a mantra(stun/cleanse/heal) that can be stored and used again in battle for up to 4-6 times(traited)

This is quite the insane disengage and sustain/damage depending on the mesmer’s build. However, I think that what it has done is made mesmers a lot more challenging to fight against now.

New tactics need to be used against them. For example, if they blink to create distance, dont run through their clones to get to them unless you got an instant gap closer available, run in the opposite direction. if they want the kill, make them work for it.

If they go invis, don’t random dodge/block because their invis uptime is very long and they can engage at any of those seconds. however, you could count to 5 and if they have not engaged, you may want to random dodge since their invis will be running out around that time or up to 8 seconds if they had invis using their elite.

Also when they appear from invis, don’t be too quick to hit them with a killer move because chances are they got an aegis up!

Use your shroud to tank when they burst from invis, but don’t be too eager to retaliate with a shroud fear. Use your shroud 4 and or 5 (to remove any blinds/aegis) and wait for him to dodge at least once before using your shroud 3/2.
Don’t try to burst on the first engage because he probably has at least 1 stun break and heal/cleanse. pressure him with autos on your first fear.
Try to burst him when you catch him with your 2nd shroud fear later although he probably still has a stun break (most mesmers run decoy and blink) or activate f4 shatter for invulnerability.

Most importantly against a mesmer if he blinks away from you, unless you are almost going to kill him with a couple of hits and are at a good HP/shroud status, don’t chase him through his clones. Run in the opposite direction and make him chase you if he wants the kill. especially if he is running mimic and had his blink recharged, if he wants the kill, he would have to use up the blink again to close the gap on you. So you can then turn around and attempt to fear and burst him again knowing that he cannot blink away from you again that quickly.

Edit: running the signet build will help you alot against condi mesmers. running the stun break on shroud trait and unblockable staff marks will help a lot against invis PU mesmers too who almost always come out of invis with aegis =/

New Mesmer plea to stop the hate

in Mesmer

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

I used to call for nerfs on mesmers with a fervor.
but that is now history.

some days ago I created a mesmer, played it, learned it in better detail, and now my opinion is that while it is insanely strong in the hands of a pro versus a lot of current builds/classes, it is not undefeatable.

I watched a pro condi PU mesmer take on two thiefs, one average thief, one pro thief.
the mesmer downed the average thief, but didn’t manage to stomp.
And then, the average thief got ressed by the other pro thief.
both thiefs are d/p btw.
the pro condi mesmer continued fighting both thieves for close to 15 minutes. no one else fell, then the fight broke up as other players joined in.
but the point is, the mesmer actually held off both thieves for 15minutes, one of whom I know is very good, and almost killed the other average thief.

Also when they appear from invis, don’t be too quick to hit them with a killer move because chances are they got an aegis up!

The same pro condi mesmer, I fought him with my necro, and killed him with two well timed condi transfers. (he killed me 3 times before I killed him though cause I didn’t time the transfers well and got blocked by his aegis and dodges and I tried to get to him by running through all his clones when he blinked away to recast his mantra)

My point is, they are strong yes. but they are still flesh and blood and can be killed.

This is coming from the former number 1 mesmer nerfer.
Please stop the mesmer hate.

Edit: I also saw a very pro warrior kill a decent condi PU mesmer. what the warrior did was kite and opened up the distance from the mesmer/clones with his GS when he had too much condi stacks on him. Then engage and try to catch the mesmer with his mace/shield stuns and bursting him with the GS. He did this a few times and was never in danger or dying to the PU condi mesmer. On the other hand, the PU mesmer was always the one who seemed more likely to die and in the end the mesmer did lose.

Edit2: so far I’ve been talking about PU condi mesmers above, the only power stun/interrupt mesmer I fought was once only. I lost, but he almost died as well. Was very close so I wouldn’t say they are impossible to fight against either.

Oh and btw, all of the above is my experience in WvW only.

For WvW solo roam.

The synergy between wrath of justice + amplified wrath + binding jeopardy + fiery wrath + shattered aegis is too sick.

especially wrath of justice. immobilize on F1. that also procs blind.

one judge intervention with GS 2 with F1 combo = instant panic-strike thief style KO

Mark of Evasion: This trait now only activates if you are in combat.
Last Rites: The portion of this trait that prevents allies from bleeding out now only applies to allies while you are not downed. The bonus healing power is applied regardless of state.
Consume Conditions: Lowered the number of self-applied vulnerability stacks from 10 to 5.
Vampiric Presence: Fixed a bug in which the Vampiric Aura effect applied by this trait allowed it to steal life on skills that did not actually hit.
Ranger
Healing Spring: Fixed an issue that prevented this skill from working properly with Rune of the Trapper.
“We Heal as One!” and “Strength of the Pack!”: Fixed an issue that prevented these skills from working properly with Rune of the Trooper.
Zephyr’s Speed and Vigorous Training: Added a 15-second internal cooldown.
Beastly Warden: Fixed an issue that allowed players to taunt targets that should not have been affected.
Light on Your Feet: Fixed an issue in which this trait provided an incorrect increase in condition duration.
Call Lightning: Fixed an issue that prevented this skill from properly applying daze.
Cold Snap: Fixed an issue that prevented this skill from applying its initial chill.
Aqua Surge: Fixed an issue that allowed this skill to be fired twice while traited with Nature’s Vengeance.
Warrior
Whirling Axe: Fixed a bug that caused this skill to grant 180 precision under some circumstances.

Looking at the new updates, I would say that necros had it bad. Some of the initial nerfs were reduced but additional nerfs were added on other areas.

Someone asked for roaming builds, and I mentioned earlier that I beat almost anyone I meet. So here it is http://tinyurl.com/p22q9yw (runes and sigils are up to you)

This is going to sound exceptionally kitteny, but I don’t mean to be, but here it is. If you’ve got suggestions for the build, IDC at all. If you don’t think it’ll work, IDC at all. It works for me and I beat people. Use it or don’t, alter it to your hearts content and wishes and best of luck

I can think of one enemy that will potentially break you.
A hammer warrior with Rampage.
You have only 1 stun break, and an elite that might save you if you managed to morph and invis in time. Other than that, all the stuns from the warrior will break your build.

Fear + Stability

EremiteAngel.9765

Let’s just make fear a necro only mechanic that can’t be stopped by stability or condi clears or stun breaks all together!

Or just do what Veewee says because Veewee is balance.

or stop this silly conversation and wanting to rework whole mechanics so just that terror will always work on fear (aka noob play) and move on cause appearantly the OP misunderstood the description cause as wiki shows it clearly works as intended.

I think OP is trying to say that this ‘working as intended’ isn’t how it should be.

fear + condi removal

in PvP

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

Well… no because the CC is tied to the condition! Without the condition, there is no disable! What I suggested is that fear go through stability but does no CC because stability blocks CC but does not block conditions… and fear is a condition!

Wahoo! Bye frands!

i thought you were on necro’s side D=

anyway, i am fine with fear being affected by both stability and condi removals.
BUT, it should only be half affected.

stability only affects the CC but does not affect the condi damage
Condi removal only affects the condi damage but not the CC

then this will be fair.

fear + condi removal

in PvP

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

on top of what ellesee is suggesting,

1) fear procs the damage even if the opponent has stability. the opponent will not get CCed

I also want to add

2) if fear is cleared by a non-stun break condi removal trait or passive skill, the condi damage is removed but the player still gets CCed for the fear duration

a condi removal is not a stun break so it shouldn’t break the CC by Fear
a stability boon is not a condi cleanse so it shouldn’t remove or prevent the Fear’s condi damage

Fear + Stability

in PvP

EremiteAngel.9765

No because people with stability are immune to stuns! These comparisons are silly!

Wahoo! Bye frands!

People with stability are immune to control effects. This includes fear.

You are right! But fear is also a condition! All I’m suggesting is that stability block the control effect aspect of fear, but keep the condition aspect! I’m suggesting that if a Warrior uses Fear Me! on someone with stability, that person will have the fear condition on them, but they will still retain full control of their character! So essentially the control effect part is negated which is what stability does, and the condition still goes through because stability does not make the user immune to conditions! It’s such a simple concept I am surprised someone as thuper smart as you doesn’t get it! I don’t know how much more in detail I can explain it! I’ve already done so like 8 times in this thread! Jeez louise!

Stuns are not conditions. CC effects are not conditions.

Fear is a CONDTION that causes CC.

No idea why this is so hard to understand. >.<

Fear is a control effect(a CC). No idea why this is so hard to understand. Go to the wiki and search for CC, see what comes up.

Go to the wiki and search for conditions! See what comes up!

well said ellesee
you really are the shining beacon for us necros
i would also like to add that if fear is cleared by a non-stun break condi removal trait or passive skill, the condi damage is removed but the player still gets CCed for the fear duration

I have a full set of WvW carrion armor with traveler runes that are soulbound to my character.

I have just upgraded to full ascended and I wanted to salvage these armor for the traveler runes but found that I am not allowed to!

I can’t transmute or sell them either!!!!

what do I do with them? I already transmuted the skins on my ascended armor to look just like my WvW armor and now I got two sets of the same thing.

And it is soulbound and I can’t give another class to use it!!!

Help!!!

what do you guys do with the WvW armor when you upgrade to ascended and no longer need it??

just look at this video and what he is doing to kite me. In my 1 year of roaming, I have fought 4 rangers who kited similar to him (yes that is how few decent roaming kiting rangers are) and they are all nightmares to fight. even in my win above, it was really a big part of luck on my side.

I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes, but that ranger doesn’t look very dangerous to me. He wasn’t really kiting a lot, he stayed within your attack range most of the time.
Also, you had the upper hand from the start, and there were a lot of opportunities to finish the fight earlier.

ouch okay looks like it really is my skills that are not good enough hahaha.
since there are necros who can fight toe to toe with LB kiting rangers then I guess this thread is pointless.

Fear + Stability

in PvP

Posted by: EremiteAngel.9765

EremiteAngel.9765

I will point out one thing. Fear is Necromancer’s form of CC.

It’s the only CC affected by all forms of defenses:
- Reduced condition duration
- CC breaks
- Condition Clears
- Resistance
- Stability
- Berserker stance

And as such, only CC affected by two Warrior Stances and leaves Necromancer with the absolute worst down state which only has single target benefits AND has the most prevention in the game.

Fear should honestly either become a CC and not a condition, or not be affected by CC breaks/stability (like immobilize). Add it up, it only gets the worst of both worlds. If you’re honest with yourselves, you will see the issue with it.

As for ranger, i find dark path and running behind obstacles helps a lot there. A LB ranger typically has 3 options to mantain distance, point blank, immobilize and cripple, this is where Death Magic and FTG helps a lot. Negate the point blank remove the conditions, tank the rapid fire and pop dark path.

The only class that can out-kite our staff is the ranger. No other class has a range advantage over us.
So, do rangers have an initial advantage over us? Yes, but once they blow their ranged burst and knock back they can’t really prevent necros from staying at range, and once we close the gap those glass rangers usually die from a mild sneeze.

Those of you who think rangers only kite with point blank shot (and/or some other soft cc), you have never fought a good kiting ranger then.

Video:

edit: dark path is also a slow and telegraphed skill that is easy to dodge, chaining it with fear will improve its connection but a ranger could have traited transfer of fear to pet, or just stun break and dodge.

also, yes we have a 1200 range staff. but it is a utility weapon. compare our damage while on a staff to a ranger’s LB. they will just outdamage and shred us to pieces.

Fear + Stability

IMO people with stability should be able to get feared! They don’t lose control of their char, but the fear condition is still on them! That way anyone who has traited extra damage or crit per condition can benefit! And should their stab run out while fear is on them, they will be disabled! Also Necros will be able to get their Terror damage off on someone with stab!

Wahoo! Bye frands!

On second thought I may be ok with you joining Necromancers.

Anyways, it’s a good point and makes complete sense. Stability should prevent the cc portion of the fear, but the damage portion should still do it’s job.

agreed. and it took an engineer main to point this out.

I see plague signet’s passive as a great skill really. you pull condis passively = you load up on condis faster and then you transfer it totally on an enemy for a massive condi spike that literally sends him to meet his maker.

above link I had a 1 vs 2 condi engrs, get loaded with condi very quickly by them (although not pulling passively from my allies, but the same idea is there. the faster you get loaded with condi, the heavier the spike when you transfer it back).
and boom the engineer dies. his friend dies after.

i think you have a very good point here.
fear is a condi damage and it the only condi that is negated totally by a boon (apart from aegis which blocks everything blockable) which shouldn’t be the case.

I think your suggestion is very good. while stability is on, the guy still remains in control, but he still takes damage from the fear condition if there is damage.

EremiteAngel.9765

I roam against zerker warriors and guards, condi thieves, condi mesmers, power engis and power/condi rangers and while I have a hard time against rangers (ugh Longbows) and Mesmers and Engis after the last patch (luckily grenadier is disabled), guards, warrs and thieves are rather easily scared.

this, is the problem highlighted in this thread.
it isn’t that necros can’t solo roam in WvW.
we can, and we excel at it.

but there are some builds (kiting builds) by some classes that puts us at a big disadvantage from the start.
it is an inherent weakness in the necro that can’t be overcomed by changing builds because there are no such options in our builds.
against a kiter of equal skill, we start at a 30-70 disadvantage regardless of the build we use.
This is a problem because no other classes face this problem. they all have options to come up with a build to fight at 50-50 against kiters or even 70-30.

why is necro the only one that doesn’t have this option?
