The only one time event I would care to see, is them dropping a nuke on Southsun.
Great… Karkazilla.
That’s ok, because then it would be Cantha’s problem. =P
The only one time event I would care to see, is them dropping a nuke on Southsun.
Can you imagine the rage if they brought back GW1 RNG birthday system?
Torches and pitchforks are already within arm’s reach for most players over the constant use of the system the last couple of months. If they made the something as big as a birthday gift RNG, players will be raging in masses about it. The only happy people will be the 1-5% that got the exotic. Everyone else would be spewing rage spam in LA and the forums. They would be screaming they got gypped with their cheap mini. The one that took a year to get.
I would advise people to take off their rose colored, GW1 nostalgia, glasses just this once. Because nostalgia can be a very seductive liar…
What a waste of a perfectly good rally. Lazarus would be ashamed. Ashamed, I tell you!
#TeamMursaat
GW2 magic depends on a channeling tool, and the kind of magic depends on what kind of tool it is.
so you could say the greatsword is partly responsible for the lasers, yes.
I can understand the needing of a channeling tool to cast certain spells, but lore-wise; is the type of channeling tool really necessary? I always regard how they separated the spells for casters, by weapon, as more of a gameplay mechanic. Like, does my elementalist, lore-wise, always need a dagger to cast an earthquake spell, or a staff to throw a fireball? It would just be weird if that was canon.
It would be like saying to Queen Jenna, she couldn’t cast a phantasmal berserker spell, no matter how skilled a Mesmer she is, because she isn’t wielding a great sword…
I’m not arguing about the invention of the steam creatures. I’m just saying, with the way it’s worded, it’s possible that he didn’t invent the technology behind them though.
Ya, maybe not inventor. She is probably more of the investor/backer of the technology. I would say mastermind, but for all we know; someone could be pulling her strings as well. It’s hard to tell with crazy people like that.
From what is said in the Split Second mission, it is possibly that Grand High Sovereign didn’t invent the steam technology…
Mysterious Stranger: You don’t stand a chance. In your world, this technology hasn’t even been invented yet!
He didn’t say, “I didn’t invent this technology yet!”. He only said it hadn’t be invented yet. In the alternate universe, it is possible that Scarlet invented the technology there as well, and the GHS only expanded on it after, I assume, her death.
Since we haven’t seen hide nor hair of Shodd, I’m wondering if he is going to be playing a part in the future, maybe helping Scarlet with all the steam tech. He did seem to love the idea of being Grand Vice-Admiral. I guess we will have to see if he shows up for the supposed “Battle for Divinity’s Reach”.
You do know that the Crown Pavilion isn’t going to be permanent right?
Wrong. Sportsmanship is about being a good loser. If you lose a match/game/race to another more skilled person, you shake their hand, smile, congratulate them and wish them luck. Bad sportsmanship would be spitting on the winner solely because he beat you, or making nasty remarks about him.
Throwing a game is when you purposefully lose so the other team can win.
Hmm…. Sportsmanship goes both ways. Winners and losers. Losers have to respect the winner for being better at the game than them, or getting lucky on that round. The winners have to respect the losers even though them lost, because they still made an effort to win.
Losers can be bad sports by swearing at the winners, but winners can be bad sports as well. I’m sure we all have seen at least one of that guy, the elitist snob type, that rubs it in everyone’s face that he won. That’s a sore winner.
I do suspect that the Watchknight’s another technological advancement that Scarlet is after – after stealing Dragon Bash hologram projectors, possibly being related to the Molten Alliance and their tech advancement, and allying with the Inquest… seems everything she may be related with has something tech-related.
I was kind of disappointed that the Aetherblades didn’t steal LA’s projector. If they were able to hack it with the stolen hologram crystals, they would have had a portable super weapon in the form of a point and click Shatterer.
I guess we will have to see how these different techs come together in the end…
I think anyone would be irritated when looking at Logan’s relationship with the Jenna, since it basically started out with, “She’s so pretty! I must be in love with her!”. I doubt Rytlock has romantic feelings for Logan. I just think he doesn’t want to deal with Logan’s lovesick swooning the whole time he’s there.
A small note, going by what the mysterious stranger is wearing and Anise’s dialogue at the end,it seems likely that the stranger is infact a OoW infiltrant
Isn’t the stranger wearing the new magitech armor? The one you can buy off the TP?
Maybe the Personal Nemesis is trying to advance technology to recreate the steam technology from the alternate future?
We got fire components from the Flame Legion…
Machinery from the Dredge…
Electrical from the Aetherblades/Inquest..
Maybe more machinery from the watchknights…?
All we are missing is an organic component, since the steam creatures are biomechanical, and a water component. Though, I’m sure there is a tie in with Southsun somewhere in there.
What I’m wondering though, is if the personal nemesis has ties to the Priory. They seem to be actively trying to study the steam creatures, since they are porting into their back yard, and their members might have a chance to try and maybe… reverse engineer one and figure out how it works?
Maybe a rogue member decided to leave and take her research with her?
Weren’t they described something like, “what djinn are to elementals, humans are to apes”?
Bubbles, the DSD, finally makes an appearance when it sends one of its champions to ruin the party.
That champion is a swirling gigantic… Sharknado!!!
Or, the Elder Dragons are maybe like the queen in a beehive or anthill, and as I said before; they need minions/workers to fully operate and feed themselves. Zhaitan needed corpses to make more minions, so it had to actively confront the living races to make more. If it didn’t, and it solely stuck to Orr, its food supply would slowly dwindle, and it would starve and send itself to hibernation to avoid death.
So the question is, is it wrong for a being to kill other beings if it was a question of survival?
The living races would never send their dead to Zhaitan, even if it played nice, and they would never send it magical artifacts to keep it sated. What was Zhaitan suppose to do? Just twiddle its thumbs in Arah, and go through the painful process of slowly dying of starvation, after it devoured all the magic Orr had to offer?
Why would they need to eat us at the moment? They have plenty of magical artifacts around to sate their hunger it seems. If magic was sealed again though, we might be very much at the top of the menu.
Another reason could be that they need us at the moment. Zhaitan needed corpses to turn into minions, and he needed minions to help gather its food and more corpses. If Zhaitan raided the cities and devoured everyone, it would have been cutting into its own future food supply.
We also know that without the Mouths, Zhaitan was basically starving at the point we encountered it. Zhaitan might have been able to feed itself, but if it was starving at the time of Arah story, that would suggest it relied heavily on getting its sustenance from it’s minions. If Orr was nearly picked clean of magical artifacts, Zhaitan would have to expand its domain to acquire more food.
The only Elder Dragon we know use this method, the Mouths, is Zhaitan though, since we know next to nothing definitive on the other Elder Dragons. That only other thing I can think of that comes close, is Jormag using the Sons to send Icebrood into the Mists. The Mists could possibly be a buffet to an Elder Dragon. Magic, magic everywhere!
On a humorous note, this is one of those topics that shows that we complain about everything ain’t it?
“ain’t” isn’t a proper word in written English.
;)
Actually, “Ain’t” got added to the dictionary.
You are hereby invited to Queen Jenna’s Aluminum Decennial!
…
No, it doesn’t have the same ring to it.
If the soul was a type of energy/magic that the Elder Dragons can consume, could it be possible that the Elder Dragon could view us as a type of living resource? The same way humans view chickens, cows, pigs, plants, and such?
It would also explain why Glint hid away the races, after she was freed from the corruption by the Forgotten. After the Bloodstone sealed away all the naturally occurring magic, the only source of food by then, for the Elder Dragons, might have been the races themselves.
Aren’t the sentient races fighting the Elder Dragons over magic, a resource? We need magic to live the lives we are accustomed too. The Elder Dragons need it to survive, lest they fall into a state of hibernation due to starvation. Conflict is always going to happen between two totally different parties, over a resource like this. Even more so, when one party needs it.
I need evidence that the Elder Dragons need to destroy/control us to survive? We _ killed_ Zhaitan. We showed him, when we killed his champions, and the other Elder Dragons that we will shoot them out of the sky, with either cannons or lasers, and kill them without remorse.
As I said before, survival of the fittest. It’s a war over resources.
-murdering
-genocide (mass genocide even)
-tempting others/indoctrination
-corruption of body and soul
-driving entire societies away by purposefully spreading fear and cowing innocents
-creating evil creatures
-using others for personal gain
-bringing despair
-allowing minions/servants to commit atrocities
That basically describes any civilization throughout history. People may or may not be good, but we willingly allow evil acts to happen to continue to survive, grow, spread, and thrive. Old school survival of the fittest.
The Elder Dragons are doing the same. The difference being we’re the victims, instead of the aggressors, this time. This has nothing to do with good vs. evil, since both sides are guilty of crimes against the other. The only thing this deals with is survival in the end.
Uzolan might have been bad, but that doesn’t mean his machines are. They are just machines after all. They simply do what they are programed to do. Queen Jenna could have seen the potential in Uzolan’s golem, even if it did kidnap her, and she had the thing crated back to DR for study.
Plus, it’s happens in real life as well. A country gets ahold of a piece of technology from a rival country, they reverse engineer it, learn how it works, make modifications, then make it their own.
We got too much technology and too few magic in the game.
Against magic devouring Elder Dragons, and their minions, throwing magic in their direction isn’t a smart idea.
I’m guessing the recipe is going to require something like 100+ lodestones?
/sigh
Jennah surrounding herself with Watchwork Sentinels… hmm, I get this weird association to the Star Wars pre-quel and the droid armies…
I got a bad feeling about this…
Don’t be silly. She is obviously getting turned into Dr. Evil. All those Watchworks, are her legions of fembots.
All we need now, is a Charr with a bad accent and teeth…
I, for one, welcome our new Asuran overlords! Long may they reign!
(Brought to you by: The Asurans for Asuran World Domination. Making a better tomorrow…. whenever we feel like getting around to it.)
That golem was part of the Caudecus’s Manor story mode. Without spoiling too much, it was built by Uzolan. As sorta mentioned by Lutinz, these new ‘watchwork’ creatures are probably based on his designs.
Ya, now I remember him. For some reason, I keep picturing an Inquest golem when I try and remember that fight. Just goes to show you, how long it has been since I last did CM story, if my memory is that faulty.
I’m guessing that the human engineering is going the path of magical clockwork? The Charr already seems to be going the way of non-magical steam powered machines, and the Asura have their magitech. If the humans go the path of magical clockwork machines, it might make a good balance between the Asura and Charr extremes when it comes to mechanical innovation.
Kind of reminds me of the “Girl in the Fireplace” episode of Doctor Who. Let’s just hope that they don’t try and harvest our organs.

I am doubtful that the story will go into what caused the Great Collapse. The Shining Blade are covering the truth behind the Great Collapse and won’t even let the Ministry Guard in, by the queen’s orders. So if this is a celebration related to the queen unless it’s Marjory going undercover, Jennah would likely know what caused it want continue to want to keep it covered.
There is always the second part of the event, later I the month. I doubt the Ministry and the bandits are going to allow the Queen to have a nice celebration without trying to ruin it. What better way than trying to uncover the huge mystery she is trying to hide?
The only “toy” Queen Jenna needs/has is Logan!
(Take that however you will…) wink
Anyway, wasn’t Minister Beetlestone suppose to have a clockwork(ish) golem? I think I remember seeing concept art for it when the game launched. It looked nothing like the Asuran style of golems.
“All races” as in Charr, Norn, Asura, Sylvari, and all the other smaller races.
Canthan are humans, and we still have no contact with their empire, that we know of….
Oh good, maybe we will finally get around to finding out the cause of the Great Collapse, now that the LS is moving to Divinity’s Reach. Plus, it would be an excellent way to start off the first anniversary, by starting construction on the Art, “cough” Canthan “cough”, District.
Sorry about that. I have a bit of a summer cold.
They better bring back Riot Alice though. It would be a sad, sad, day, if they don’t bring her back for the LS dealing with the Great Collapse.
Humans (and other similar sentient beings) do acts, that can be perceived as bad, to lesser creatures (chickens, cows, fish, plants, insects, and etc.) to survive. That is ok morally, because we are doing that to survive. We also have centuries of thoughts and actions of our ancestors telling us its ok, because they did it as well. Almost like a generational peer pressure.
When a larger race of creatures/beings does the same to us, it is perceived as bad, because it does not fit into our code of ethics and morals. It doesn’t learn nor care about our codes of conduct or ethic. Why should it? We are simply a resource for it to exploit. Isn’t that how humans treat their own living resources as well?
the asura won’t do this because they are asura and not human/americans.
Hmm…
Troll or not a troll. That is the question…
Tyria needs a hero that looks out for his bottom-line, first and foremost? I’m not sure if the world needs nor wants that.
Btw, has anyone heard Evon’s favorite joke?
“How many human orphans does it take to make five gold?”
“I don’t know… How many?”
“Only one! That is, of course, if you know the right nobleman!”
Go chill out at CoE or the Uncategorized fractal and enjoy your asura dungeons YOU ALREADY HAVE.
The same could be said about Abaddon. He had an entire campaign for himself, and he was the puppet master behind the villains in the story prior. If you miss him that much, you can always go back to gw1 and enjoy what “YOU ALREADY HAVE”.
:)
For us, or anyone else for that matter, to know if the Elder Dragons natural, we need to know their origins and how they came to be. Until that happens, we can only speculate.
As said above, if it’s anyone’s motives we should be questioning, it’s Magnus’. He is putting up one of his own supporters for Council. Which almost guarantees him two votes in meetings. A very big power play, on his part, in my opinion. Whether or not that’s true, on the other hand, is up to Kiel. He’s has always been her boss, and we haven’t seen anything of their relationship if they are on an equal footing.
If Kiel does win the election, I wouldn’t mind seeing a future LS about Magnus trying to overthrow the Captain’s Council, to make him something of the “Pirate King”. Maybe if we kill him, Evon can take his spot on the Council, and Kiel takes over the Lionguard.
Win-Win.
Everyone on this thread seems to think the Asura need military might to rule the world. There are many more ways to conquer a foe, than just in battle. The Asura was probably going to take the slower, more cost effective, path to world domination.
They are going to make themselves… indispensable.
Ya, they are Risen anti-air cannons.
The same thing can happen in real life with plane travel as well. You can go from a sustained temperature of the plane and airport, to a dry and cold place (lets say Alaska) and a humid and hot place (Florida).
Your regular body temperature can take a sudden fall or spike as soon as you exit, but we still survive. We’re just miserable during the time our body takes to adjust though.
I’m really enjoying this patch. My only grief though, is that you can buy the support tokens. How does that in anyway get an accurate representation on who the players want for the winner?
What’s stopping a filth rich player, like the ones who know how to control the TP, from getting a doubling banner and buying a thousand gold worth of tokens? They can swing the election at the last minute for simply the “lolz”.
Man.. we don’t need a card based mini game, it’d go straight to the cash shop, and then people would kitten on about it not being “fair” endlessly so lets just not go there. Also, single player games can’t honestly be compared to multiplayer ones, different dynamics. I would love to see some more varied minigames though!
I, personally, wouldn’t mind something like Triple Triad from Final Fantasy 8. It was simple, and it can get more and more complex with the added rules. I usually spend a very good portion of my full play time playing that game.
Though, the cash shop could turn that kind of minigame into a pain, I agree. I wouldn’t mind coughing up 10$ worth of gems to unlock it, but if they are expecting me to buy booster packs…
…I might just pass on it.
As for something back on topic, I was very surprised to learn the Arcane Eye have a base in that town. I always wondered if the Arcane Council might have ties with the wizard that lives there.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
He did. Sometime after GW1, he marched his forces into Vabbi, where he dammed the Elon River and diverted it into, what I assume is, the Desolation. Vabbi had to surrender, or they would risk death by starvation/famine. Kourna and Istan followed soon after.
I wonder how he is taking the death of Zhaitan though. Who is going to play Zombies vs. Zombies with him now?
I think it’s 100% safe to say that the human gods knew about the Elder Dragons, since the Forgotten were fighting them during their last rise, and the Forgotten were devotees of the gods. I would think they would give them a heads up about powerful magical entities like that.
The knowledge that Abaddon might have had on the Elder Dragons, and anything else for that matter, went to Kormir after she took his mantle of godhood.
As for the enemies in the fractals themselves…
Abaddon’s would have mostly humans in it. The Margonites, at the time, were still very much human. They only became demons after they were sealed into the Realm of Torment with Abaddon. They might have some powerful ice elementals in there, to go with Abaddon’s water element, but I think that’s about it.
The Reactor would have mostly Inquest and golems, of course. If the chaos magic starts leaking out before the meltdown/explosion, we could possibly get anything from around Tyria. Surprisingly, if the Mists are open and the chaos magic can reach into them, this fractual has more of a chance to get demons than Abaddon’s does. The Mists loves to make demons, for whatever reason.
Which one I choose will really depend on their treatment. If it is just going to be another fractal they add to the rotation of FotM, i’ll probably choose the Reactor. If it’s going to be a full dungeon, and it is only be taking place in FotM (for it’s staging area and entrance), i’ll probably choose Abaddon’s.
The Reactor would better fit into the FotM. Abaddon deserves his own dungeon.
He would be neutral to us, unless we are actively trying to depose him. The Elder Dragons are just as much as a threat to him, and the land he rules, as they are too everyone else.
As long as you stay out of his way, he couldn’t care less what some goody two-shoes wannabe hero is doing.
That’s presuming that the gods’ magic can even be devoured by the Elder Dragons. It may hold origins to the Forgotten’s magic, which couldn’t be corrupted by the Elder Dragons. Or to the golden orb of light in NE Malchor’s Leap (which personally reminds me of the Hall of Heroes’ “unearthly glow” in the center that replaces the need of a sun, and the Hall of Heroes being fully golden…).
Maybe the Elder Dragons can only consume and corrupt magic native to Tyria? Races and beings with strong Mists connections, the Forgotten’s magic and Mursaat’s Spectral Agony, seem to combat the Dragons well.
Though, we need to know how Tyria gets its magic in the first place, to even test that hypothesis.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
Even if all the Elder Dragons die, I doubt the gods will return to Tyria. While the humans worship the gods, the gods seem to take a more parental role towards the humans. They protected them, helped them grow, thrive, and expand their kingdom when the race was still young, but now that they are grown; the gods left so they humans can grow on their own and find their own place in the world.
Also, real world literature and mythology =/= Guild War lore.
