All he did was stop the Ash Legion from getting a bad name. He’s still working for profits. The gist of that story was that he didn’t want to use brute force to get money from the merchants in Lion’s Arch, he wanted to be Ash about it and be sneaky in his methods of taking money from the pirates.

Yeah. It’s much darker in the Ascalon areas at night than the other areas. I was there and really enjoying it. Is strange why it isn’t consistent across the maps.

Natural lighting. Each zone has it’s own color scheme and the reflected light affects it differently. Although the sky is also somewhat more transparent in Ascalon (the daytime is brighter and the nighttime is darker, there’s a much larger contrast) whereas in Kryta the daytime and nighttime are bright, but the nighttime is just dim, instead of dark.

Shiverpeaks are more of a cool color during the day, so the transition to night isn’t noticeable.

So we will never face the other dragons and get new zones…

We had an entire story, several zones and much more for just one dragon: Zhaitan.
When we’re going to face the other dragons I expect nothing less. But they can’t fit 3 or more zones, a huge line of quests and all the content that comes with it in Living Story, there is just no way. Living Story content is just too small, insignificant and (mostly) temporary..

Why would it be impossible for the Living Story, but not for an expansion?

If they’ve got 4 teams, what’s to say that one of them teams aren’t working on a massive update they’ll be released in 6 months time?

People are too caught up on labels to see that LS and expansions are exactly the same thing; content updates.

And it’s better that they fail miserably with free content than with paid content.

My main criticisms of GW2

in Suggestions

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

  1. If most items you got weren’t useless, that means you’re in a vertical grind progression where everything is better than what you’ve already got. It would also mean that there would be no end to farming new gear (see: Everquest) until you become the very best, like no one ever was.
  2. Chest rewards are based on your level and the level of the zone. If you daily run Obsidian Sanctum (as well as all the Borderlands) plus the Orr jumping puzzles, you’re bound to get a rare or two, maybe even an exotic.
  3. Magic Find is already being removed.
  4. RNG is bad because you like to grind? Or is it that you’re forced to grind because of RNG? You realize that none of that applies here. If you want X item skin, it’s more efficient to farm money than to grind for the item drop. Dailies can be considered a grind, but there’s no RNG to completing them.
  5. The only luck part of a legendary is the precursor (arguably Mystic Clovers, but the drop rate on them is ridiculously high). Additionally, you can purchase it in the trading post, so there’s a static method of getting it. We’re back to the farming dilemma. If you want X skin, go farm for it.
  6. I believe you’re confusing Lore with Story and/or Plot. The Lore is vast, the Story is cliche, and the Plot is standard for most MMO’s. Now, when we go to the Living Story, it’s just slow. The Plot and Story are both obscure for now, with not a lot of foreshadowing (although there are a lot of hints dropped along the way, they can be interpreted in so many directions).

Now onto your solutions:

  • This would not increase lore, this would force a gigantic retcon on the current lore and then add some story, not lore.
  • The sad no lifers finish any content relatively fast. It won’t give them more to do between updates, it will simply be their content for a week, then they’ll beg for another content update. I say this after finishing every achievement on the Living Stories within 2 days of their release.
  • The content team is already relaxed with their current method of release. Having them add a gigantic lore retcon as well as new Personal Storylines (preferably in a short period of time, I’m assuming), would give them a ton of pressure and not let them relax. Especially if you want them to release this in addition to the Living Story.
  • I don’t see what you’re getting at here.
  • Annnnnnnnd you’re just comparing two very, very different things to say that RNG is gone. Having more Gem Store items will not remove RNG in any way.

Conditions are already weaker than pure damage.

Conditions are harder to get to deal more damage (they scale really badly).
Conditions have a cap that is not unique to each player, meaning that if you have 2+ condition players in a party, you’re going to waste conditions (either one persons poison/burning will be ticking or 25 bleeds will go off and you’re just overwriting bleeds).
Conditions have a cap on how long they can be (100% condition duration).
Conditions deal their damage slowly and have tons of removal methods.

The only way you’re going to win as a condition damage build is by constantly applying conditions to other players and hoping they run out of removal. They, on the other hand, only have to worry about hitting you, because their damage will do the rest.

Also, if you get, say, a Zerker Warrior in your group that wields a Sword, you’re in for a treat because he’s just going to slide on into your bleed stacks and say “HI, I LIKE TO BLEED THEM, TOO!”

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that

a lot of the complaints are from a position of confusion and some consumers are just shooting in the dark for an understanding of why they feel upset about some of the RNG stuff and skin purchases because of the conversion rates and premium currency.

Because most consumers aren’t informed. Most consumers aren’t interested in why they’re upset. They are, however, shooting in the dark expecting a bulls eye.
Note: This paragraph came out wrong but I’m going to leave it here.

Honestly, if the Gem Store was in multiples of 1,000 for ease of access (1000 = $10), it would not have a layer in front of it, but it would make the consumer, aka the player, feel like they’re spending more. It’s a simple trick on the mind. If 600 gems was worth $10, people would be more inclined to spend 600 gems to get an item since it seems like less.

My main complaint is that they are constantly changing the drop rates of the Black Lion Chests, which makes it hard to find the drop rates of certain items (the wiki typically does drop-rate tables, but with each drop-rate change patch, that essentially needs to get scrapped or another table needs to get made with the older one getting archived).

EDIT: I could have made this response longer, but I’m really tired and you didn’t bring much points to which I could respond (namely because I never got into the FF scene, too many games for me to keep track of).

I will leave saying that yes, I agree that F2P models are bleeding into B2P and P2P games, but, specifically in GW2’s case, they need to have some form of money other than game sales, and this is what works (it worked in GW1, although they had no transparency because everything was priced in real money, iirc).

Of course, it wasn’t a gem store, it was simply a “buy these things that can make your account nicer, but not give you an advantage [except mercenaries, which were expensive, and even then weren’t superbly advantageous]”.

I’m going off on tangents and I can’t keep track of my thoughts, good night, I will come back to this thread if I can find it when I wake up.

But in the open World, where a death isn’t that problematic, reviving should be standard.

It shouldn’t in my opinion.

Death is quite an inconvenience isn’t it? You have to open the map and click on a way point and run back. Wouldn’t it be more simple for someone to take time out of their game to help me get back up? I guess that would depend on how inconvenient it is to resurrect that player.

Leaving someone downed is a different matter entirely. Once you’ve got credit for an event, it’s not a big deal to res someone who’s in a safe spot.

In a group setting, like a dungeon, there are times when it’s better to just fight (even if it’s solo) than to res. Other times it’s better to focus on ressing instead of fighting solo.

It’s a sketchy subject, but for the most part, just ask yourself this:

  1. Is he safe?
  2. Am I safe?
  3. Is he down, not dead? If he’s dead, do we need him?
  4. Am I getting credit?

If the answer is yes to all of the above, just res him.

You don’t need Ascended gear in WvW, it barely gives a stat increase, the only reason for getting ascended gear is FotM!

For example, all PTV Ascended gear can get more 122 power. in wvw,eat food can get 100 power and 70 vitality. (Ascended gear – Exotic gear)> 1/2 * food . Or 122/(100+70)=71%

Your math is comparing trinket differences to food, not trinket differences to themselves. You’re getting an additional 92 main stat and 31 minor stat (potentially 62, but you might be getting MF or CritDmg).

For the sake of this argument, you’re getting 154 stats more than Exotic (let’s say PTV gear).
Ascended Stats:
570 Power
376 Toughness
376 Vitality

Exotic Stats:
358 + 150 Power (508 Power)
255 + 90 Toughness (345 Toughness)
255 + 90 Vitality (345 Vitality)

Now, let’s compare them.
570 Power vs 508 Power. (570 – 508)/570 = 10.877% better (62 stats).
376 Toughness vs 345 Toughness. (376 – 345)/376 = 8.245% better (31 stats).
376 Vitality vs 345 Toughness. (376 – 345)/376 = 8.245% better (31 stats).

Overall:
570 + 376 + 376 = 1322.
508 + 345 + 345 = 1198.
(1322 – 1198) / 1322 = 9.380% better (124 stats).

Now, if 124 points, 10% of your trinkets not overall stats, is going to make or break you, you might want to hop out of that white gear and put on some blue or green gear, at least.

Lastly:
An average player wearing 2x 1h weapons and full ascended trinkets (let’s say PVT again) will have 2551 stat points.

An average player wearing 2x 1h weapons and full exotic trinkets (PVT again) will have 2399 stat points.

(2551 – 2399)/2551 = 5.958% better (124 stats).

And then we toss in base stats (916 * 4 = 3664).

(6215 – 6063) / 6215 = 2.446% better (124 stats).

In Conclusion:

Will 2.4% stats (124 points) make or break your build? Is it that overpowered? The food you listed gives 170 stat points. That’s more than the difference between ascended/exotic trinkets.

Instead of making these complaint threads and trying to throw random maths at people, you could be doing your daily or a fractal or a guild mission.

Also, I’d just like to point out that stunbreakers break cc not just stuns. While it is misleading that they say stun breakers, they do break you out of daze, knockdown. If you are being pushed, pulled, float, sunk or launched, you can stunbreak out of it, but since the duration of them is usually small, it requires very fast reaction as opposed to stun/daze/knockdown.

However, sometimes when you stunbreak vs kd, push/pull, the game will still consider you as controlled so you’re unable to move, still. But that’s not to say that you can’t use a stunbreak to move while controlled.

There are no controls that prevent you from using a stunbreak (unless you’re talking about immob + cc vs mobility-based stunbreaks, such as Roll for Initiative).

Article from Gamasutra on in game stores

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

Well, the article is more referring to F2P game models.

The only parts of the article that apply to the Gem Store are the soft boosts and the non-transparency of the gem store itself.

Soft Boosts
The Boosters are soft boosts which players can buy to empower their characters. Keep in mind, however, that these boosts very rarely affect gameplay and when they do it’s minute.

Now, some might argue that the Crafting and Karma boosters can give a huge advantage to players. This is untrue.

While Karma boosters will allow players to gain an abnormally large amount of Karma versus other players, Karma as a currency is not scarce and is much too common for this to be a gigantic difference. Additionally, using this booster gets you the most when you save your jugs/drops/etc instead of farming events with the booster on.

Crafting boosters, on the other hand, can instantly apply a great deal more to players. Of course, the boosters themselves benefit players who do one activity for a large amount of time, meaning that when you use this booster you should expect to hit 400 in one sitting. Additionally, this booster doesn’t give you a flat 50% bonus crafting experience. It gives you a 50% higher critical crafting boost. This means that it can be detrimental. While you’re crafting, unless you craft each piece’s ingredients as you craft it (which gives you less experience), you’ll end up having excess materials because of those criticals. It also prevents you from following guides such as gw2crafts because of the critical boosts.

Transparent Gem Store

Even if the gem store were to have all their listed drop rates, people would still complain (yes this is tangential). Arenanet has cut down on the RNG chests to the point where it’s most likely all going to come from the Black Lion Chest (and these scraps are usable in the future, so it’s not JUST for Aetherized Weaponry). Additionally, the Mini’s have gone to a 3 pack mini set which guarantees you one of each mini.

The only true RNG Gem Store items are the Dye and Mini Packs. I can’t really say much about them as I haven’t used them or bought them. However, if you are going to buy them, the only forewarning that isn’t listed is that you CAN get multiples of the same dye/mini from them as they ARE near-true random (other than the rarity bumps).

The only RNG item left is the Black Lion Chest which I briefly touched upon. I’ll go back to it, as this is where I think Arenanet is going with them. You end up with these rarities of items. You’ll have common, uncommon, and superbly rare items. The uncommon items are considered rare in their book and the superbly rare items are superbly rare.

An example of these items are:
Single-Use Items Common
Backpacks Rare
Containers Rare
Influence Common
Tools Common
Everlasting Items Superbly Rare

Now, the new scraps are Common, which means you’re rolling against all the other Common items, whereas the tickets are Rare. Retries are also now Rare.

There’s probably a little manipulation going on in the background so that not everything has an equal drop rate as opposed to other things in their tier, but I doubt Arenanet will release that information, which is why, when comparing this to the article, there is a non-transparent RNG in the gem store. Also, their wording and player’s perception are two very, very different things.
