To me it just tells me you are doing damage to minions/clones, or it is getting healed. I if go shatter Mesmer, I can get a lot of kills, but less than 300k damage because I can kill them before they get a heal off.

I am a well below average pvp player. My win rate is less than .500. have crafted the gift for the back item, but I don’t have the materials for the might/magic gifts yet. Prior to season 1 I had played spvp mostly for dailys and was maybe lvl50. I would say anyone has the opportunity, and the skill ceiling for the item is pretty low so virtually everyone that puts in the effort can get it.

Skill has surely an impact on pvp gw2 but it´s limited on the meta level.

The good players in a bad team can carry- a-team-theory is wrong anyway, if these good players in a bad team play against a better enemy team.

We see this currently at soccer EM 2016. Can the world best soccer players carry a team of minors?

Can Ronaldo carry his team? No he can´t.

Can Ibrahimovic carry his team to a win? No he can´t.

Can Lewandowski carry his team against a stronger team? No he can´t.

Can Baine carry his team against a stronger team? No ge can´t.

And u people forget the other side. Some players can easily identify the carrying players on the other team. So what the solution? Focus the carrying player and you turn off the whole enemy team.

It´s the same in soccer matches. Double coverage and make the stronger player puke..

You placed yourself on a side with an advantage by queueing with someone that was very good for the division they were in. It is designed to get the people that don’t belong in the division out of it quickly. Unfortunately it doesn’t work in reverse that way due to the gates. So if you try hard enough, or manipulate the system by queuing with people or ducking “bad” players you will reach a point where most of the people are better than you so you will always be on the team with a disadvantage. So if you want to be able to grind to ruby, then you will have to deal with the losses.

I would love to know how to turn then on. The only way I can see them is by mousing over them which is tough because you either have to be standing still, keyboard turning, or running in a straight line.

I only watched game 3. A few tips:

- You hide ur teammates hp bars above their character. This can be quite bad for creating an oversight for yourself. You have the potential to greatly heal your allies, knowing what their specific hp is quite essential to do that. The hp bars on the top left corner won’t really do the job.

Thanks for the feedback. We had a bad start on both 1 & 3 and were able to rally. The first match it looked like we were 4v4 mid so I didn’t check the map or notice the score was getting out of hand. The thief did a lot better as a +1. Is there anything that would tip you off in the build that the thief shouldn’t have been at home? As for the stomps, I tried to interrupt the rez and let others stomp cleave, but later was doing it myself. You’ll see a couple multi stomps too. That is the tough part of random. It seems like most of the time I stomp with stability I end up getting feared…assuming from corrupting boons.

1) Show MMR

Having a stat that determines your matchmaking and ranking and then making it invisible to you just creates problems. People have all sorts of theories on how to influence it, but there is no way to see what is actually happening. Some people swear that they need to loose matches so they can get wins, and it makes it very frustrating for people who are actually trying to play.

2) Either hide what map people are on or hide their names

This isn’t boxing. The Floyd Mayweather effect should not exist. If you are going to obfuscate something make it who is playing in a match not your MMR. It prevents the match making system from providing accurate results. The sample set for players isn’t very large and I have seen the same people throughout the season. Some I groan when I get them on my team others I cheer. If someone is tracking players in their watch list, they will end up placed higher than they really should because they are ducking the bad players.

3) The scoring system does not provide good feed back on your performance.

Most of the time it is not relevant to a players contribution. I’ve won matches handily where no one on the team was over 100 pts, but most of the other team is. I’m sure if the community thought about it they could come of with a scoring system that represented the actual contribution of a player.

  • Time spent actively holding a point with an even number of players or -1.
  • Time spent fighting on a capped point without decaping it should count against you.
  • Time +1 on a point and not killing anything should count against you.
  • Deaths especially at even strength
  • Deserting a capped point and having it back capped 5 seconds later should also count against you.

-1. Think the system is good as is if anything increase the dishonor time. If you aren’t playing for 2 minutes on a game that is on average 8 minutes you don’t deserve the win. Don’t need more people who’s “modem crashed” when the game isn’t going their way. If your ISP is so bad that you are dropping 3-4 times a day you should stick to unranked, or be forced to play on a team of people with intermittent connections.

More likely its builds require more skill to run well, or they are playing the class wrong. I had a whole 20 matches played on a warrior over 3 years and I can get on one and do well against lower tier players. On my f2p ranger I rek revenants. Doesn’t mean revenant is weak, just most people that are in sapphire don’t play it well.

You have to get to level 20 to compete in ranked which takes around 50 matches. Most of the good players that do it probably had their account starting in sapphire anyway. If they end up with enough gold on the account, they may end up converting it to a legit alt account. I don’t see why you would limit them. You can always make one yourself and play it when you are frustrated with your main.

This is what I consider a one shot build, not me but was pretty funny. It is a Mesmer, it is shattering, and it is usable in the current meta.

The most viable builds I’ve tried that are core —shatter Mesmer and GS/LB Ranger -- are both zerker one shot builds.

Power shatter Mesmer was never a 1-shot build.. I played the build pre-HoT, and 1v1’d another mesmer with the exact same build for half the match(and prevailed in the end). I was pretty new to PvP back then but looking back, I think I played well in that particular match.

And when was core ranger ever “the most viable”? Pre-HoT people used to tell rangers to reroll, that’s how bad they were. Like warriors and thieves during season 1.

As for the thread topic, I think no. I would rather see ESpecs toned down, core specs toned up. Make a way for the specs to synergize best with other core specs instead of the elite one.

Really, the powercreep in HoT is not fun, its constantly being ruined by one shot and cheap moments, for the love of god add a core pvp mode so that those who actually enjoy longer matches that actually feel like “I died and it was my fault because I didnt do this or this right” instead of “I died because things are currently massively imbalanced and 1shot”

Unload following you while you are in stealth. I have no issue with someone strafing blindly and hitting, but it shouldn’t follow you if you are moving out of the initial blast.

I think they need a player karma/rating system. Where people who intentionally do stupid stuff or afk end up getting punished. You can report them for “botting”. However, there is not a visible punishment for it. Maybe they do get punished eventually, but I’ve seen people afking for multiple matches in a row. I’m not going to test it with my account, but it you seem to be able to troll ranked matches without any consequence.

I’d love to see Duhem come in and nuke afk people. Would do wonders for the game. Right now the biggest issue with sPVP is peoples attitude. I literally played vs someone complaining in all chat that they never were on a team where they were carried in all chat and they were going to quit trying. They were on a revenant and kept trying to cap our home, and got killed every time before they made the statement.

Why not leave it up to the players that you impacted by disconnecting. Just post a message at the end of the match that player x disconnected. Would you like to accept your match results, or should the player who disconnected pay for their actions.

If a player votes yes they either sacrifice a pip for each negative vote or have 10 minutes of dishonor for each negative vote to account for the persons time they wasted. Another option would be to make a special queue for people that can’t stay connected for a full match. It is not fair to punish 4 people for one person’s problem.

No the Necro needs to get a grip on reality. If he was decent he wouldn’t be teamed with people that send 4 home and can’t figure out what to do. He needs to stop expecting to be carried through his matches and l2p or make a 5 man team, or even better find a new game. But odds are he can’t get 4 other people to play with him.

Wouldn’t blame the Necro, in fact, I’d blame the 3 players who followed you home. Being that clueless, you deserved to be Akitten on. The necro did you and those 3 players a HUGE favor by ending that game quicker.

I solo queue and think they should have separate joins for solo and teams. I think part of the issue with people getting into divisions that they don’t belong in is them queuing with others and inflating their win rate vs solo players. There is a big difference between a player that can figure it where to be and who needs help on their own vs one that has people telling them over comms.. At the same time just about every guild team I’ve seen in unranked is pretty bad.

Equating a DOS attack to an injury is just stupid. It is like having a player on a team get shot by a fan and then not allowing the team to sub them out. Then blaming the player for not providing adequate protection for himself even though he is forced to play in a public arena. ESL is a joke if they don’t play the matches on a LAN.

Be that as it may it could be just as likely that he was running a rogue application to give him an advantage at the game that happened to have a back door in it.

Odd you are the only one on your team with a score that isn’t a multiple of 5, your screen cap doesn’t include any stats, and you claim no treb points.

Proof that a player can carry a match like Atlas but still lose that match due to a bad team or bad match making for that matter, regardless of how good he is.

In shorter words: “Consider MMR ideally being actual skill level”
With 10 being a high MMR and 1 being a low MMR, due to how three node conquest works, a red team with skewed MMRs of 10,3,3,2,1 has a low likelihood of beating an average MMR blue team of 5, 4, 4, 4, 3. The numeric of these MMR allocations look good and balanced on paper but they don’t work for conquest play. This is mainly because a single good player can only be on one node at a time. if his team mates are all low MMR players, they’ll just keep losing on the other two nodes vs. the average MMR players and ultimately lose the match, almost every time.

This is not meant to be a negative post but rather a post to review my original concerns and comments about higher MMRs being punished during solo ques and question if it is happening again. It is also important to point out this problem within the unranked algorithm before a new algorithm is decided for season 3 ranked. I would sincerely like to avoid these kind of matches during S3.

There are entire servers that have a reputation of playing defensive. Is that because they don’t have any guilds?

Let me post a couple facts:
Servers are region based (NA, EU, China)
Regions have peak and dead times for their game population.
WvW game mode is dependent on maintaining a consistent representation across all time zones.
Guilds don’t have to be large. My “guild” is my guild storage vault.

Just because Blizzard uses servers, or some people have an emotional attachment to them doesn’t mean they make sense for this game mode. The current system is imbalanced by design. Anet can’t even give stuff away without people complaining, so any fix they make to the system will upset some people. Maybe it is my narrow mind, but the only other solution I see is to monitor the overall player population by region per time slot. Then hard cap players per server by time slots so the player base is forced to reorganize.

TorquedSoul posted a good article on the subject. They put a lot more effort into communicating the concept than I did.

There was nothing wrong with reping a single person guild.

I would rather them make a gvg map just for GvG with rank/ladder/ bracket tourneys instead and have WvWvW open to all. You can still have alliance or even faction based instead of servers, but everyone in and out of guilds should be able to play. WvW is one of the only places a WvW only guild can even recruit members, so this would just ensure guilds shrink over time.

Sounds like you are making my point for me. Guilds do actually provide more than one play style. It sounds like your definition of a community guild is one that is defensive so I doubt I could name one.

If statistics are tracked for guilds performance in different categories they could easily take pride at exceling at whatever play style they want to specialize in.

You seem to be the one with tunnel vision. Having guilds does not have to equal karma train. You can easily have guilds that specialize in any play style for WvW. Guilds also don’t have to be large.

Considering GW2 it’s bigger than WvW limiting who you can WvW with to the piece of hardware that stores your account information is pointless. If you like the way WvW has been trending since launch, then keep doing the same thing. You know what they say about doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Large guilds would anchor a match and small guilds/PUGs would fill in the gaps.

GW2 PvP: A new player's perspective

You can totally be successful as a core ranger. I run a zerker build with great sword and longbow. Pets work well to control in 1v1. You have enough damage to put people down fast, you just have to watch your positioning. Search and rescue is still good for team fight.

Yes, it will take you a year to actually get good.
However it will not take you a year to be able to play the game or win the game.

I’d say your main problem is playing a dps ranger. This simply doesnt work in todays meta.
There are active and reactive classes. The bunker druid is an active one. You just rotate your own skills to gain a good uptime of protection and regeneration, use healing whenever you are hurt, cleanse any condi, swap and attack pets and utilize your evades for max uptime.
This is relatively easy and you will probably never get destroyed before you can help it.
A reactive class, for example thief has to pay much more attention to the opponent, evade every key attack skill, interrupt the heals, stealth and attack. This is usually harder and requires you to know your opponents tells exactly. If you miss a single skill to dodge, you suffer the sudden death you described.

Now dps ranger is neither. Your rotation is not meaningful enough to make you an active class whilst you dont have the tools at hand to be reactive.
Basically all you have are your damage skills. Its like playing a rev without glint. Or a thief without dodges and stealth.
I actually cant imagine a scenario where a dps ranger would not be a freekill.
All classes have the sustain or the mobility to avoid your burst and every damage dealer has the damage potential to tear your defenseless body from the battlefield in seconds.
You can not play a dps class without the active defenses, passive defenses or heals of what we used to call bunkers. Thats the sad truth. The only ones who try are thieves, and even they have a comparably insane amount of evades and mostly avoid fair fights.
Metabattle lists power survival as ‘good’ which is appearently a synonym for:
-You dont own HoT
-This used to be good but is now horribly outdated
-One trick pony
-Actually useless but at least not a meta build
-Good to suprise noobs but easy to counter

I have played WvW off and on since launch. I don’t think you have to be a mithril ranked WvW player to make a suggestion. Thinking that world populations will ever be balanced when it requires the players to pay $ to even it out is absurd. I would also think people in T1 would want some sort of gate in terms of experience and results in game vs a donation to anet to qualify someone to play at that level.

Maybe pvp players should give it more than 9 days in wvw (based on his postings, which until then were solely in th pvp forums) before deciding they have a great way of ruining the wvw game mode.

Basing it on guilds is such a bad idea- so Anet might actually be planning it or something similar.

I’m not in any major guild for many reasons. Firstly, I cannot use TS (comms on my server know why). Secondly, I cannot commit to being available when the guild is forming a raid. Thirdly, I run my own build main as an ele and won’t be told when, where or how to play. Despite all that, all open raids and some closed ones will happily take me in as I’m usually one of the last to die despite mostly being right next to the comm the entire fight (and mostly in water) and I’m not terrible at my class.

Basing numbers on ‘hours in wvw’ could be easily gamed, and I guarantee that one alliance would dominate most match ups, as all the better comms and players would seek to join it.

Then we would also see the demise of those wanting to play the least favoured classes- after all, if it’s guild v guild, you’re not going to want too many rangers, mesmers, thiefs or engineers about taking up spaces are you?

Again, you might keep a couple of really good ones if they can form a spike squad and wipe enemy eles, necros, etc or for picking off stragglers- but they’d need to be on TS in their own squad and be able to play and move as one and have group builds on (which many don’t).

I could have just said ‘bad idea’ but felt it necessary to elucidate my reasoning.

I think you missed the part about capping population by time slot. This should be a lot easier to monitor and correct if it were guild vs server based.

Guild alliances are the main driver for WvW success. Why not scrap the concept of servers.

Because glory-seeking server-hopping guilds are causing the population balance problem in the first place. Making it easier for them to stack on the same side is the last thing we should be aiming for.

Not sure how you think trying to create balanced matches based on servers for a minor game mode will produce good results. That concept is destined to fail. There will be a small handful of servers people that are willing to pay for transfers will go to, everyone else will either find a different game mode or a different game.

If you make it guild based and promote/demote guilds to different tiers it will make it easier to balance the population issues because you are managing smaller chunks. Also, playing in the higher tiers will actually have some prestige to it vs. selecting the top server when you make your account.

The problem is there aren’t that many people that play WvW to begin with. People have deserted that game mode for a reason. Currently if you are on a server that is not well represented in your time zone it is a waste of time playing, unless you are someone that keeps paying for transfers to ride the WvW server stacking bandwagon.

I think a majority of players who play wvw would disagree with what you’ve suggested, as this is completely different from what makes wvw attractive in the first place as a game mode.. It’s a nice concept though!

I came from anvil rock. I mostly play after 9 pm. pacific time, and occasionally in the 9-11am time on weekends. With the exception of the first night, at most one map has been queued, and the ones that aren’t queued frequently have the outnumbered buff. It seems to be a population issue when I’m playing. I was surprised they were able to pull out a second place the first week.

Have a limited number of alliances like there is now. Have a set of metrics that are public for the WvW guilds. Such as repped hours per time slot, defense contribution, caps, yak kills, average WvW rank, %uplevels/under geared players. Then the guilds could choose the play style they want. Break the year up into seasons, and allow the lead guild for each alliance to draft the guilds it wants to align with at the beginning of the season, but cap the guilds they can take based on rep time per time zone so each tier has relatively even coverage.

I think a guild/alliance based system would allow the community to better track and balance populations. As it stands right now if you are on a “server” with a bunch of dormant accounts, or people that hardly play WvW you can still be considered “high population” even though you can’t even queue maps.

They can easily get in guilds.

For 1g they would just make their own 1 man guild.

Would the next step be to block all players unless they are in a 100+ member guild? Would that 100+ member guild all have to sign an agreement to actively present themselves on the field each day?

How would this work? How would there be enemies or players? Would it be limited to roaming guilds? Would it be limited to bigger guilds? What would be the point of a single guild on 1 server when multiple guilds are needed to upgrade and buff structures like SM and Keep, would it all be owned by one guild and then upgrades limited to how much a WvW guild was able to PvE for guild upgrades?

Guild alliances are the main driver for WvW success. Why not scrap the concept of servers. It would also give the leaders an accurate view of the population that is playing based on the guild stats.

Idea: A lot of dishonor? = ban from PvP.

I’ve gotten dishonor for not hearing the horn when I was in a different window and missing my initial queue vote. As long as it is dishonor from leaving/quitting/griefing then I’m all for it.

To me they should have a player voting system like other games do. Maybe even have community volunteers to ref. matches. The tankers in the ranked matches ruin the game.
