Story Mode dungeons = solo-able

Maybe I misinterpreted your post. Sounds like you want the dungeons to be designed for one person. I was more on the lines of having game mechanics that allowed areas to be farmed solo that are also challenging to play with a group. In GW1 you could always come up with a way to use a mobs strengths against them. So even areas that were designed to be challening for 8 people could be be done with much less using the correct build and gameplay. In this game all they do to make something hard is add AOE traps with massive damage and monsters with huge HP pools.

I’m not sure the game mechanics are flexible enough for making a soloable dungeon, but heroes similar to GW2 would be nice.

Seriously? The whole storyline is soloable except Arah. All it would take is nerfing hell out of the mobs to make it soloable. And to make it harder, they just button mashed 0 on the health meter anyway. Hell, they could make Destiny’s Edge fight as if they had 2 brain cells to rub together between them. That would help too.

The only “lag” i experience is either framrate drops if I play on my laptop or culling. Both of those are caused by a large number of people in one spot. How is a player guesting going to cause any more lag that someone from your home world? If everyone is guesting, it is just as likely that someone from your home world is not on your map because they guested it somewhere else, or are doing a different event on a different server.

I fail to follow your logic. You start out saying everyone complained about the loot drops. Now you want Anet to revert to the origional loot drops because everyone enjoyed the events the way they were.

The only complaints I see are people who try to zone for the last few seconds of a boss and end up getting an overflow. I have never had an issue with this if you go to the zone before the event starts. The complaints seem to be griefing that some people are more effective than they are at getting the rewards, and they can’t get a rare for 10 seconds of work every time. If you go to the zones early the rewards are comperable to a dungeon in terms of time spent. If you zone at the last second you run the risk of missing out on the chest due to overflows.

I think you miss the reason SF/FOW/UW/DOA were so popular. You could always do an effective and fun solo or 2 man farm no matter what area you were in. The zones also provided challenging content for a group. Name one place in GW2 that has that.

I enjoyed solo farms in the end game zones. It was a good way to learn the zone by yourself, and it provided a way to enjoy the end game content when you couldn’t find a group. Unfortunatly, I don’t think GW2 game mechanics allow that.

Different games.

FoW and UW were from GW1 and yes they were entirely designed for groups because the entire game of GW1 was designed from the ground up for groups. There was no soloing unless you were a 55 monk or some other specialist build and you certainly didn’t solo places like FoW or UW.

GW2 is an entirely different game, it’s got solo content -everywhere- and most if not all content can be done by yourself. Sure there are group events that can’t be soloed (unless you’re particularly skilled, the average player cannot solo group events) but in GW2 grouping up and helping players is not forced unless you want to go to a dungeon and dungeons by themselves are small and short, no 10 hour DoA clears here, no sir.

Essentially what the OP is asking for is a return of GW1 style content where it’s an entire zone where if you don’t group you die, and that’s been done already. It’s called Southsun Cove. Hardly anyone goes there because it’s impossible to clear solo and most people simply find Orr and Frostgorge Sound to be better locations. The same thing would happen with this new zone. Sure like Southsun it would be ‘massively popular’ for the first few weeks, but once the novelty wore off (and it would quickly) people would start returning to Orr etc etc because it’s far easier to farm solo than it is to find four other people to run in a group with you for simple farming.

Do you want to farm low lvl maps as 80?

Whenever I go to low level maps I get lvl 80 gear mixed in with gear that is of the zone’s level. How is that different from what you are asking? Seems like if you want to “farm” gear, going to the dragon events seems to be the best way to do it if you don’t want to deal with putting people together for dungeons.

This seems to be a straightforward way to implement a LFG system in game with tools that already exist. A party leader puts in a service requisition into the auction house for people to join his party for a dungeon, or campaign event. A similar approach could be used for guild finding.

I would also add a feature for player/guild feedback similar to eBay related to the transactions. You would be able to see how much negative/positive feedback a group leader had before you joined. That way 1 you would have some idea of their experience level, and 2 you would know if they had a track record of punting people to add a friend for the reward chest.

Whoever was involved with the camera mechanics should be forced to do the Troll’s End jumping puzzle 10 times in a row with tall char and norn characters daily until it is fixed.

I think the graphics in the game are great, but the camera mechanics near objects is one of the worst I’ve seen in a professionally produced game.

3rd party clients do VOIP cheaper and better than game manufacturers can. Let Anet focus on the game which is still lacking features that are standard among other games in its class.

As for lack of numbers in the VOIP servers, if you don’t make it worth peoples while to use it they won’t. How many people close out guild chat because they don’t want to listen to it? I personally see very little use for it unless you are into high end PVP.

If you want to keep the same number of servers for WvW I don’t care, but I would argue that that number could be reduced. I’ve never had to wait in line to do WvW regardless of the time I play. Our server is around 17 in the rankings, so there are several other servers that have enven less people on.

The other option would be to make the PVE maps instance only. Maps in the 30 to 60 range are ghost towns. On my server, the only PVE areas with a decent number of people are Orr and the starter human area. Also, trying to find people to do dungeons is very difficult. All of this would be improved by making the PVE areas instance only.

Id also like to see the targeting mechanic updated a little. Its very frustrating to target one enemy, have to turn and move away, only to lose the target even when you have the option “Promote Skill Target” (aka if you hit them the target is locked) on. I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this however a lot of people seem to complain that the targeting does not lock onto what you want. Just my suggestions.

I don’t care about jumping puzzles. Unless there is a guaranteed precursor the first time you do it, it is not worth fighting the awful camera mechanics to do them. I don’t like the fact the people who are not contributing constructively to their world’s efforts are taking up a slot in the queue just so they can do a jumping puzzle or grief people that are trying to do it.

It is just poor design by the developers. Having jumping puzzles on a map masquerading as “PvP” just does not make sense. Move them somewhere else.

People that think that a jumping puzzle with PLAYER ACTIVATED TRAPS BUILT INTO IT BY ANET was ever meant for anything but pvp make no sense. Anet designed it and created it and placed it so players could fight over it and in it.
There’s already 50+ PvE puzzles, if you can’t handle PvP them go do those.

As for PVE content in the WvW maps, I don’t see an issue with the capture points. If you play enough to get 500 badges there will be enough down time that you will be able to pick up the waypoints. With the different starting points you can still get all the points fairly easily even with a bad homeworld.

The skill points that aren’t commune, and jumping puzzles need to go. They are just a distraction from people that are trying to play the content as designed.

Save the social interaction for the town. The you can wear your party clothes and show off your min pet too. I would much prefer if people aren’t chatting in the party window while i’m trying to do a dungeon. Draw on the map, target something, but please don’t ask me how my day was, what my facebook or sype acts are.

I would prefer a party finding tool with the ability to filter on builds and experience, but a queing system would be worlds better than what we have now.

I don’t spend much more time leveling that it takes me to do the dailies. To me the big difference is that level range is a ghost land. People either hang out in the noob areas or the high level areas so events take much longer to complete since you are lucky if you have one other person helping you. Also, the higher levels the gap between quests is pretty tight so you can do one story quest after another. Those are all a decent fraction of a level.

Guild Wars 2 needs a party finding tool that is produced by Anet. I don’t care if it is in game or web based. The three reasons this needs to be implemented are general chat is not a viable party finding tool, GW2 was specifically designed to discourage solo and two man teams, and party finding is wasted time.

While trying to find a group to do a dungeon I was reminded of a quote from Francis’s Diablo 3 rage quit. “the only people using general chat are gold sellers.” The online community that uses general chat is a little more diverse in Guild Wars 2. However, the population can be broken down in to 3 categories. Gold sellers, trolls, and people who can’t STFW (Search the fine web). For this reason alone most people don’t bother with general chat. Other factors working against general chat are ironically too much content and ease of travel. When you combine this with a the fact that you can only mass message people on a single map in your home server, or overflow instance it makes in game party finding very difficult. Do you go to the map that has the dungeon, or do you sit in Lions Arch? Lions arch has a better chance of getting an overflow which may open you up to more people, but what if you are playing during off hours for your server and you can’t zone to an overflow?

While it is true the the main story line, except the final mission, can be easily completed solo, all end game content suggests parties of 5. In Guild Wars you could successfully complete areas in a reasonable amount of time with less players. However, the skill set in GW2 is limited, gear is harder to obtain, and the design of the end game areas makes solo or 2 man dungeons impractical even with max gear. The fact that developers specifically designed a significant amount of content that requires a party to complete puts the burden on them to provide a practical method for players to find a group.

The final reason there should be a party finding tool is time spent finding a group is time wasted. I would like to believe that most people purchase a game to play the actual content, not spam general chat half the time they are logged on. Anet did an excellent job eliminating this element of the game for trade. With the auction house you can quickly determine the market value of items, and purchase and sell equipment. Please put this level of attention to a party finding tool.

Good Ideas:
—The ratings for dungeons was a good idea, but I thought it had too many tiers. At the time I play it is hard enough to find a group for a dungeon let alone one that had 20+ possibilities. With out a proper in game party finding tool you need to seriously reduce the number of possible tiers.

The new area looked nice and the new monsters were challenging to fight.

The ranger pet looks sweet.

—I thought the new dungeon was intersting, but it was plauged with DCs.

Bad
—-Time not spent adding a real party finding tool. This would be time spent on something everyone can use every day.

—One time events. If you are going to take the time to add an event to the game, why only run it one time. To me that seems like a waste of developer’s time.

Released before it was ready. The dungeon and event seemed beta quality. There were lots of DCs and crashes.
