the new necro heal skill looks extremely powerful from a wvw point of view. why all the complaints about no healing in ds? we get an extra health bar for free with good control and damage. the cd isnt bad at all. imo ppl need to stop complaining.

Yes, replacing your actual heal with the ability to get less health back for being struck than healing signet gives warriors for just running around is totally going to rock the WvWvW scene. We’re all clearly blind to its unlimited potential.

I totally laugh at the dhuumfire and jagged horror jokes but necromancers aren’t in as dire a situation as this thread somehow suggests.

I’m going to have to disagree with that. As things stand and as condition damage is starting to get phased out we will no longer have a purpose. Right now our only real purpose is to stack conditions. That’s all we do well and that is slowly being peeled away.

We have no future in this game. As all the other classes are moving ahead with cool new toys to play with we get left behind. Oh well, at least we’ll have thieves for company.

Why do guardians get the better leech deal?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

Honest questions to the developers. Necromancers have an entire line dedicated to leeching and yet even with every single point invested in it we have nothing which even begins to compare to Litany of Wrath. Why is it that guardians are allowed to have functional leeching but we’re not?

Yes, I realize that they don’t technically leech the health as much as just heal when hitting things but at the end of the day there isn’t much of a difference when you look at the sustain except for the guardians actually being capable of doing it. I’d gladly sacrifice the pathetic leech damage if it meant being able to sustain myself through hitting things and I’m actually kind of upset over guardians ousting us at this since I was under the impression that you guys wanted classes to have unique things going for them. Vampirism has never been viable for us and the new signet is just another slap in the face.

Warrior, mesmer and guardian heals are blatantly overpowered.

Engineer and elementalist heals seem balanced. The engineer heal is probably the best designed one in the batch.

Ranger, necromancer and thief heals are worthless.

In conclusion ArenaNet still can’t balance for kitten and should just stop introducing new things until they’ve got the basics figured out.

Concerning the New Heal

Fungalfoot.7213

Anybody else feels like the devs are trolling us necromancers?

I think they’re simply inept at balancing. They say they don’t want to directly compare classes but that’s kind of necessary in order to have any sort of balance present. We’ve had the same trinity reigning supreme since day one and absolutely nothing has changed in that department. Instead they give warriors, who already sit on the most overpowered heal in the entire game, almost four seconds of complete immunity to everything in their new heal. And we get this garbage.

I’m just tired of even trying anymore. It’s obvious that they have no concept of what the necromancer’s role is supposed to be. They’re only concerned with their favored classes and everybody else might not even be there. It has been over a year and they’ve yet to show any willingness to seriously listen or cooperate with the community.

I am not really sure what players expected out of these boxes. Precursors for everyone?

How about something which builds towards that goal?

These boxes offer nothing useful. And that’s the issue with this game as a whole. There is no real progression, only praying to the RNG Gods. You could spend years working your kitten off and still not have half of that of somebody who just lucked out on a random drop. Nothing that takes actual effort in this game is remotely rewarding. There is no prize for excelling at anything. There is only more grind.

This game is unfortunately extremely hostile towards new players. Not only will they have to enter knowing that there is a lot of content they’ve missed that they will never be able to experience for themselves but they also have to deal with a gold market in which they will never be competitive and indeed a gear grind from hell.

I used to recommend this game to friends all the time when it first launched but I would not make the recommendation today. It has gone from its “it’s a party and everyone is invited” philosophy to something entirely different. Something toxic and unattractive.

While I suspect they will go for the first option and simply cut the requirements once the early adopters have burnt themselves out grinding it’s kind of sad that this is what it has come to.

How does a warrior have so many dodges/evades?

What amazing defenses do wwarriors have outside of their armor and health?

This ridiculously overpowered thing known to the common man as a healing signet.

There really is no justifying warriors having the highest health and armor at this point. There is no class variety in PvE whatsoever thanks to warriors being so easy to play.

Well depending on how it works, “leeching” hp from the enemy when it’s used, if it’s substantial at all it’ll allow MMs to do quite a bit of burst damage it sounds like o.o

That’s assuming it procs with minions. Do note that the description clearly states allied PLAYERS. I’d love it if the signet did actually work with minions but based on ArenaNet’s track record with the necromancer it’s probably going to be worthless.

Looking forward to seeing some real numbers but until then my enthusiasm remains curbed.

Gem skin should be unlimited use - quick fix

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fungalfoot.7213

I really don’t think that there would be all that many enraged by the proposed changes. Most people, as this thread shows, seem extremely welcoming to it. Yes, it would screw over the precious few individuals who did buy several copies of the same skins but in the end they too would win out under the new system. Maybe ANet could even introduce a vendor to which these players could exchange their redundant skins for gems as a token of goodwill.

That said, the bottom line here is that this system is bad and it’s not going to help the game last or grow. If ArenaNet wants people to go wild over skins they have to make them collectible and they have to make the collecting itself a rewarding process which makes the player feel good about it. Having to overwrite your precious skin to wear a new one is an awful experience and it really shouldn’t be this way.

Fungalfoot.7213

They disappear when you decide to overwrite them. They don’t disappear in League of Legends when you decide to try out a new skin. You’re free to switch as you desire and that is exactly why skins sell so incredibly well in that game. The system is user friendly and buyers feel like they’re getting their moneys worth out of it. The model works and Riot has successfully built an empire around it. The key is keeping your customers coming back for more and I believe that is missing here.

In order to retain your skins here your only alternative is to grind out multiple sets or shell out even more dosh for transmutation splitters while unused skins continue consuming bank space. I’m sure I’m not the only one with several tabs filled with event skins that I’ll never actually get to use due to how bad the system currently is and it really cannot be overstated just how bad it is.

Yes, I’m sure there would be some initial outrage over it but that happens with every change. Besides, you have to realize that the people who bought multiple copies of the same skin are in the vast minority here. You can’t let that hold back the game from improving and evolving as necessary in order to stay competitive.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fungalfoot.7213

Last I checked in League of Legends, you unlocked one skin per champion. Buying one skin doesn’t unlock them all for your account, nor does buying one “Beach Skin” unlock ALL skins of that type across all characters.

It unlocks the skin permanently is the point. There are also skin packs and regular skin discounts up for grabs all the time. This model makes skins easily collectible and people more inclined to want to catch them all.

The deeply flawed Guild Wars 2 model on the other hand has the opposite effect. Since skins are gone once they are used up and you have to grind out an entirely new set if you want another skin which takes more of your finite bag space you can’t really catch them all. This is all very counterproductive when it comes to actually selling the skins since very few players are going to be willing to go through all that hassle. They will buy one skin they enjoy and leave it at that.

Clearly you should be able to discern why one system is superior to the other from a buyer’s perspective. You did after all fail to provide a counterexample.

The burden is on YOU to prove that the change would be worth it to Arena.net.

One need only point to Riot Games and League of Legends for that. A game which reaps far greater profits than Guild Wars 2 ever will through its skin sales alone. The current business model is bad as it doesn’t offer the customer enough value for his money. This means less people are likely to buy into it and the goal of any business is to constantly expand. The current system prevents that.

Now feel more than free to point me to a game which successfully employs the same skin business model as Guild Wars 2. I have a feeling you won’t be able to since it’s a terrible system but maybe you’ll surprise me.

In case you were comatose over the last week, there was a bit of an uproar over what was perceived as a change to the established method of things.

I don’t care how many “unhappy potential customers” you think there are. Change this, and you will have a swarm of furiously kitten ed off customers flooding this forum.

You are a “potential customer” (read also; non-customer) asking them to potentially enrage their established customers. It’s not going to happen. Deal with it.

Right. Nothing should ever be improved on because it might upset people. Keep the status quo until the ship sinks along with everyone on it. Brilliant strategy that.

Those purchases are going to be defunct at some point anyhow as just about all MMOs eventually shut down. What ANet, and the playerbase, should be concerned with at this point is improving the game and the gem shop along with it. Right now the transmutation system meshes poorly with their stated goal of cosmetic progression since you never actually progress due to everything being transient in nature.

The only real cosmetic progression at the moment comes from the achievement point skins. This needs to change and people need to be given something to work towards. Making skins collectible would be a huge step in the right direction and I don’t believe in letting a handful of people stand in the way of a better game.

Would the profit lost from people buying the same skin multiple times be more then the profit gained from people who now feel the skins are worth the price.

Looking at League of Legends’ incredibly successful skin sales I’m going to go ahead and say no. The issue with the current gem shop is that very few things are actually worth it. With the current transmutation system in place buying more than one skin really is pointless for most of the playerbase who won’t bother grinding out more than one set.

Unfortunately they’re making too much profit from it to care.

I’m pretty sure they make most of their bank from permanent unlocks like character slots and convenience items like the unlimited harvesting tools. I doubt skins sell all that well. Making them unlock like the achievement point skins would no doubt make players more inclined to want to catch them all. The current system is bad.

If they want to lift the restriction on cultural armors, great. Do it in a manner that all of them are unrestricted at the same time, attainable via playing in-game and not the merry gem store.

But wait, ANet won’t do that, why? That won’t get them the $$$

That’s a fair point. That said, I saw this as a start for bringing out more unrestricted cultural armors which I view as a very good thing. And there really isn’t much of a difference between buying them for gold and paying gold for gems and then buying them for gems.

It does when they effectively get content removed from the game by throwing a tantrum. Listening to the community is all good but you have to know which part of the community is actually worth listening to. They should have listened back when people complained about the implementation of ascended.

Honestly, I liked the idea of the Flamekissed armor, because I want the cultural armor to be available to all races. I definitely want to get some Asuran T3 armor onto my other characters.

I think the solution you came up with is a fair one, no question there, but I would prefer one that would allow you to keep expanding the cultural armors to other races. The solution is not to stop doing this, but rather to make it so that the T3 armor doesn’t cost an arm, a leg, the other arm, the other leg, and whatever other limbs you might have available. That’s why people are annoyed, because something that used to be crazy expensive is now available as a cash shop purchase. Make them all cheap and it’s a non-issue.

I don’t think making them cheap is the solution here. I think we need to have some way of gaining favor with the other races and by doing that unlock the skins. People want the cosmetic progression they were promised and right now the only thing which matters is farming gold which is a bore.

Removing Race Restrictions on Cultural Armors

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

I do like the idea of being to work in game towards gain trust with a faction and then being able to craft cultural armor. Much like the Kurz/Luxon system in GW1. It should be a long term accomplishment though and maybe a limit on how many factions you can ally with. I don’t think people would be terribly upset about that as a feature as a player would a. have to grind the faction’s trust and then b. have to actually buy the expensive cultural armor.

Absolutely this. They need to implement a reputation system and allow players to actually earn their cultural armors. Getting cultural armor should be a memorable event and a milestone in your character’s development – not another reason to farm gold.

I’d also love it if the skins unlocked in a similar fashion to the achievement point skins once you hit the necessary reputation threshold.

How about the part of the community that was upset about it being released cause they earned it? How about the part of the community that lost there fractal progression so everyone could be put on even keel? I guess there wants needs and desires are not as important as yours cause thats whats being implied?

Few things in this game are truly earned as you put it. It all comes back to gold and gold can be gotten not only by converting gems but also by purchasing it from outside sources. Gold is not some great achievement which should be respected.

I’d be inclined to agree with you if this armor required getting through some hellish dungeon or conquering an epic boss encounter. If so it would be completely lame of them to throw a better looking version up on the gem store. But that isn’t the case here. The acquisition method is identical except for Flamekissed being cheaper and available to more races.

I thought Guild Wars 2 was meant to bring the community together but instead we have to deal with childish tantrums over somebody else getting to play with the toys. It’s ridiculous.

This game already suffers from a massive shortage of good looking armors. If they can do it well there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t drop the restrictions on the cultural armors entirely. In fact, I implore them to do just that and render this entire debacle a nonissue.
