Barring some tremendous change to the game I’ll be heading for EQN myself. Things have just gotten way too stale and while there has been some decent content in there most of it has been shockingly bad.

I guess we can hope that the living story will wrap up with the announcement of a proper expansion, right?

I actually hate that about it. Rescuing kittens and orphans just seems so out of character for an asura. I should be out there engineering super weapons to combat the threat, not playing fireman.

I feel for you, OP.

I miss having to actually think about the encounter before engaging. I miss building my own squad, tweaking companions to perfection. I miss having truly difficult content which wasn’t just about bringing in enough warm bodies to beat the DPS check.

But there are also a lot of things I don’t miss. The inability to jump, the rigid feel of the gameplay, the rather empty world and so on. I can’t go back after having enjoyed the fluid gameplay of Guild Wars 2. Sure, it’s vapid and uninteresting but it feels so good on a basic level. Just a kitten shame it will never advance past that stage.

Welcome to Guild Wars 2 where the only true path to success is sitting at the trading post all day flipping goods. Sure, it’s an awful MMO but it’s a pretty good Wall Street simulator.

Trade post scalping is the easiest way to success. One of the many reasons as to why the game is going downhill so fast. Actually playing out in the world is a complete waste of time unless you’re running dungeons or champion trains. Events are garbage. Sorry.

One of the many reasons as to why I haven’t bothered with alts. Not only is the gearing process lengthy it’s also the most boring I’ve ever experienced in any MMO. Game needs a stronger and better vision.

Some valid points being raised here in regards to the RNGish nature of it all. I would love to see more than dumb luck and gold grinding be rewarded at some point but maybe that’s all in the works? One can hope.

Anyway, I suspect that’s one of the reasons why I’ve never felt particularly proud over any of my rarer skins. To me it was just a matter of getting the look I wanted right and I’d hate to deprive newer players of creative possibilities.

I dont think you deny everything by rewarding people who were around at certain stages of the game. After all its the only thing to show that you were there at a certain part of the LS – or were rich enough to buy it from the TP.

You deny them a shot at earning the gear and creating new gear isn’t exactly a cheap process. The end result is a dearth of content. All that time wasted on creating temporary dungeons and events could have been spent on improving the game as a whole.

It’s an exceedingly wasteful process just so a precious few can feel special standing around in town and I say this as somebody who has been here since beta.

I’d implore them to look into placing all the rewards at the end of the event and remove mob loot entirely. It’s tiresome to have people intentionally fail the event just so they can scale up encounters and farm.

The game is also in dire need of a proper contribution system to combat the AFKers.

Using the term “paywalled” is disingenuous and I assume people continue to use it for the purposes of rhetoric. It is not like there is a service that only exists in the terrace or on the airship. Yes, you have to hop around a bit while the continent is at war. One could make the case, from a lore/story standpoint, war is and should be inconvenient. People can’t ask for engaging and world altering content and then be mad when the world is altered.

As far as lots of people in these convenience areas are concerned, as a long time user of the Royal Terrace on a very high pop server, I can tell you that is not the case once the event is over and consumable tickets are used up. At most, I see 12 or so people in there at a time. Even guesting on Blackgate there have been very few people on there.

I am still willing to believe and give ANet the benefit of that doubt that worst case this was a simple oversight. I think they will ultimately have to put a MF in every capital city to spread people out. That just seems to be a magnet for the population for whatever reason. The lore behind it was weak and a little cludgy as it was, so I don’t think there will be any love lost if they do that. Heck, Zorromos might insist on it give LA’s track record.

The area in question, as I clearly noted in my post, is without a doubt paywalled so I’m going to have to throw that accusation right back at you. I made no mention of the services themselves which can certainly be found in other areas. This is by design in order to encourage people to open their wallets and pay for the convience of getting it all in one place. Nobody wants to sit through more loading screens than necessary.

The reason why the royal terrace never took off was because Lion’s Arch remained the premier option. Why spend precious gems when you’ve already got a perfectly fine hub at your disposal? With Lion’s Arch gone I’m not sure things will be that simple. I reckon that permanent pass has been a real big seller for them. Time will tell but I can’t help but view the move as exceedingly tasteless.

As a complete OT aside…

The idea of a singular central town that everyone gathers in is, IMHO, weak tea. If LA never comes back, and Vigil Keep is nothing more than a gate hub, I’d love this. Capital cities should feel full and vibrant, not abandoned wastelands.

I fully agree with that and I support the destruction of Lion’s Arch.

I do not support paywalled convenience areas like the airship, however. That to me seems counterintuitive to the goal of bringing cities alive again. Given the choice most players would undoubtedly conduct all of their affairs on that puny ship.

People have been leaving in droves since karma changes, and BLTC unique skins, and since WvW orb hacking, and since Fractals, and since ascended, and since their favorite class got nerfed, and since every other significant or insignificant change that has happened since launch.

Let me share a secret with you, 9/10 people that say they are quitting over something like this, on the scale of temporarily adding hopping through a waypoint to their town activities, you could add to your friends list and see them playing happily playing as usual.

That is why “game is dying, everyone is leaving!” hyperbole never gets a response and why it just gets laughed off. Anet actually has the numbers. You and I can actively watch the “quitters” mosey along in the game. NCSoft earnings report published that GW2 is making money. More than projected for this last quarter if I recall.

The game isn’t going to wither away because people have to hop through an Asura gate to do some crafting, and then hop back over to MF when they are done, until a new hub city is raised. These are people have every right to share their opinion, but is making a mountain of a mole hill and catastrophizing.

All of the controversy will mostly die down when people get used to having to move between MF and crafting and the rest will go away when a new hub comes around. Or when they realize they spent more time complaining on the forums than a they would have spent in a year of going between gates to get to craft-stations.

You’re absolutely right in that very few people will quit over this change specifically. The problem with your argument here is that you’re overlooking one simple fact and that is that everything adds up. For every bad move ArenaNet makes they diminish the value of their brand and few things are as precious in this business as your brand. Once a brand loses its desirability it’s all over.

People still remember the ascended debacle and all those poor balacing decisions. Sure, the initial kittenstorms might have subsided but it’s still all there on the record. This too now.

Quality of life items in the gemstore should be beneath Anet? All the items are quality of life, that’s what the gemstore is all about.

Blowing up the hub city and then dispersing the various services to not so subtly encourage players to resort to the cash shop should be beneath Guild Wars. They’re attempting to engineer a new need for convenience.

Adapt or leave.

People are leaving in droves and that’s the entire issue here. ANet has completely failed to keep to their standards and the game is suffering because of it. I don’t see why some of you feel so compelled to defend the direction they’re going in when it’s killing the product.

We need change or this game is going to be left behind once the next batch of MMOs drop. They’ve just about used up all the goodwill they garnered with Guild Wars and the brand is at this point getting dragged through the mud. This should be beneath Guild Wars.

GW2 is about open world content, not instanced, and that was a decision they made very quickly upon release. You’re not going to get what you want.

Pretty sure Guild Wars 2 was advertised with dungeons and personal story, not just mindless zergblobbing. Some people want more of that content. Personally I think we’ve had more than enough of zerging by now.

I wouldn’t mind the event depending on the success of the entire phase if I was able to somehow influence the outcome of the other platforms. But I can’t so it’s a total crapshoot and I really don’t believe in RNG achievements.

Warriors do NOT bring the most damage.

On paper this is true.

They do however have the easiest time delivering their payload. Elementalists can pull some absolutely ridiculous numbers in theory but in practice they are way too squishy. I don’t think the issue here is warrior damage as much as warrior survivability. As a warrior you can gear yourself for damage and still be insanely tanky. This is an issue.

The timer really is the greatest issue here and it’s exactly what is enforcing the entire NOTHING BUT ZERKER GARRIORS ALLOWED mentality. Make more interesting fail scenarios. Active fail scenarios. Just get rid of the timer.

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

They need to scrap the timers and let the players do it at their own pace. Most will abandon this event since it’s simply not a productive use of time. You waste hours sitting around and then don’t get anything out of participating in the event itself. Surely there are more interesting ways to have the raid fail than a kittenty timer?

Tequatl is, exactly as the doomsayers predicted, now a dead event on home servers. It would benefit ArenaNet to learn from this. These fights can be fun and community building experiences but it’s going to take some work to make that happen.

Fungalfoot.7213

Throwing more people at an event should not be done to trivialize content when players lack the skill, knowledge of mechanics, and/or strategy/coordination.

And yet that is exactly how Tequatl is farmed in overflows. It’s not a matter of skillful play, it’s a matter of bringing enough warm bodies and exceeding the cap by shuttling people in. The encounter was further trivialized by summons.

What these events need is proper scaling. Section the area off when the fight starts and have the encounter scale based on many people are present.

Obviously these encounters just don’t work given the current implementation since people shuttle into overflows in order to do them. Population caps should be raised for home servers and the events need to scale properly so they don’t end up abandoned on smaller servers.
