The LFG (Looking for Group) Tool is intended to be used to help put together a group to enjoy game content, such as Open World, Fractals of the Mists, or PvP. Over the last several weeks players have expressed increased concern about abuse of the LFG Tool as a growing number of individuals have begun using the LFG Tool to advertise the sale of in-game items.
Clearly, if a group-formation tool is flooded with item sales and trade messages, it will be difficult for players to use it for its intended purpose. Beyond that, trades and sales initiated in the tool are at high risk for scams. While our Customer Support Team will take action on the accounts of players who engage in scams and other disallowed activities, they generally will not be able to replace items of players who fall victim to these unscrupulous individuals.
Our policy: Players may use the LFG Tool only for the formation of a group.
Players may use the tool to sell a spot in a group, but they may not use it to sell or trade items or for any other unintended purposes. Doing so will result in an account infraction.
You can help us reduce the spam and refocus the tool by reporting individuals who are misusing the LFG Tool. Simply click on the name of that player in your chat window, right click, choose “Report,” and then choose “LFG System Abuse.” With your help we’ll be able to keep the LFG Tool clear for your use in forming groups.
Interesting thoughts here. I always think of it as a gentle reminder of my need to use care in what I do. Especially that #%@$ jumping puzzle amongst the trees… at which I died multiple times.
You know, “Play more wisely.” I don’t love the runs to the repair NPC, but I don’t resent them.
It’s good to see other players’ thoughts on the matter.
Im fairly certain fall damage doesnt damage armor. Unless youre falling and almost dying then dying to the mobs. You so silly gaile.
No it doesn’t. Well, yes, it does indirectly if there are huge beasties in large numbers below, and your stalker is lounging at a distance, cleaning his paw, and you are so weakened that it’s curtains 4 u.
I see it as Death Penalty like in GW1. Sure, you could remove it by setting foot in town, for free, or carry items to mitigate it (which had gotten pretty cheap and easy to get by Year Five).
It was, however, an incentive to not play sloppy to avoid wasting your time. After all, if death has no consequence, there’s no motivation to change your behavior and just run headlong into the same obstacle until luck smiles on you in pity and lets you progress.
Well put, TT. I’m with you on this.
Thanks to everyone here for such helpful advice.
Welcome to Guild Wars 2, Imp!
~ snip~ ….speaking as a player who plays all races and classes and has leveled 27 characters to 80… ~snip~
I just have to pause to say “I salute you!” (And ask, of all you’ve chosen, what’s your fave? I’m genuinely interested.)
Edit: I just realized I sorta posted in an off-topic theme. Perhaps a different thread would be best, eh?
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
I would think you could turn off that visual by clicking the check mark in your hero panel that toggles on/off on the headpiece. (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on that.)
Myself — the residual visuals that you see do not impact your account. We’re not concerned about what you’re seeing, but what others see, so the name was changed. No impact on your account, ability to log-in, or in your access to your gems.
As to policy: Please note that JT has provided direct quotes about our policy on name changes. We’re sorry if someone typo’d when setting up the account, or decided s/he liked a different name better, or things of this sort. But changes “by request” are simply not something that our CS Team will do, for a variety of reasons I’ve explained in depth in the past.
Note there are exceptions: security and a truly (not pretend, but actually) offensive name.
Someone suggested that all their friends report them as “offensive name” so that they could get a free change. Not going to happen, and abusing the support system with fake reports is a violation that can result in a time out.
We’ll definitely have more to say on guild halls in the future. The releases at the announcement were sort of appetizers, giving an overview of many things. But we’ll serve up more of a tasty entree in each of the “deep dive” features that we offer.

Hey all,
A little birdie told me that some of the folks from Massively are forming a new group, so if you were on their FB page, you might want to check that out!
According to Customer Support, you have brought this matter up with them twice, and they have fully answered your questions. Disputing Customer Support decisions or company policy is not a intended purpose of the forums, so this thread is rather pointless, as the decision would not be changed with debate.
While we appreciate all our players, and you’ve been amazingly supportive with the number of character slots that you’ve acquired, I hope you’ll understand why it’s best to close this thread now.
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
I am getting the odd 503 error too.
I will keep an eye on this and report if it continues.
Thanks for sticking around on the forums, even with the odd tech burps.
The devs did a server restart. Are you able to access now?
How can people get scammed when they can always look up prices on the actual TP beforehand if they wish to use the lfg venue to sell/buy items..?
Are you freakin’ serious?
Exactly how can a seller be sure they get their gold?
How can a buyer be sure they will get the goods? If either goes wrong, Anet gets contacted and has to waste time hunting down the bad guy and banning them (note they will NOT refund any money or items on a deal gone bad).
Everything above is irrelevant when BLTP is used for transaction.
Whether you like it or not, the solution is already in the game.
I do agree that a clear policy on the use of the LFG tool for buying and selling needs to be stated in the LFG tool window.
Thank you, that’s correct!
The Trading Post was designed to protect our players, to improve their in-game experience, to protect the game economy, and yes, I’ll confess it, to try reduce support costs, too.
If you choose not to use it, you do so at your own risk. For there is no way in the world that we can rectify all the possible negative impacts of direct player-to-player transactions.
Also, what is your general location?
Thanks!
The OP removed his/her post, so I’m not sure if the areas that were listed are still havign difficulties.
Kodash (red) has no access to blue borderlands
Drakkar Lake (blue) has no access to blue borderlands
Abaddon’s Mouth (red) has no access to red borderlands
Elona Reach (green) has no access to Eternal Battlegrounds
Seafarer’s Rest (blue) has no access to green borderlands
Is that list still accurate?
I think we could give more information on this subject, so I’m going to see what I can find out.
Thank you for a thought-provoking discussion.
I love this thread. I am sharing it with the entire dev team, because I think it’s a wonderful point of inspiration for those of us who are creating, to helping those who create, a game world in which players can have fun, meet friends, and have respite from the challenges of daily life.
All the best to you, Jaymee, and to you and your wife, penelopehannibal.
I’m checking with our newsletter expert on this.
Much of this thread is… random.
But pretty fun.
I had a shaman build warrior for support and buffing with banners and the war horn, it seems now form what I read that’s a worthless spec and should do something else?
I see people playing this build in the game today. What makes you feel it’s no longer effective?
Yes.
:)
And yes, we do not review, vet, or approve third-party programs. Each person who wants to know whether something is acceptable needs to read the messaging that is provided and make a decision based on those comments.
“Here’s the Anet respond from Gaile Gray (Support Liaison)
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/10a0qk/official_response_clarifying_the_stance_on_mods/Combat Mode(Verson 1.1) does not give you an advantage over other players and does not automate your game play, more over, it is an overlay program that does not alter the games files in any way, so technically it is not bannable. Combat Mode Ver 2.0 however, alters the game’s UI files, making it a bannable mod."

Where did I make the bolded statement? I see where I was quoted, but the final sentence? Please clarify and edit, as appropriate.
Selling items using the LFG Tool is a very bad idea. The tool was not intended for that purpose, and those who use it are not protected from scams, rip-offs, and general heartbreak.
Sure, if someone rips you off and CS can verify it, they’ll take action against the scammer. But they cannot return the item.
I know I sound all rah-rah when I say “Use the TP” but I’m a player too, and I pay the fees, and darn it, it’s a small price to pay — literally — to avoid the ripoffs that happen when someone decides to take a risk to avoid the fees.
Today is one example of the badness of using the LFG Tool: I got a very heartfelt PM this afternoon from someone who had The Flameseeker Prophecies — yes, a bloomin’ Flameseeker! — stolen from him by a scammer using the LFG Tool to identify potential victims. He knows now and will never forget: You should never, ever, ever use the LFG tool for trades.
Whether it’s the two-copper piece of junk or the legendary of your dreams, please sell it through the safe, secure, and intended methods offered within the game.
For the record, I don’t personally care if it takes dollars, gems or three goats and a chicken, I will be among the first in line to buy the new expansion. I was just curious to know how gems worked based on what I had read in the past.
You guys rock.
Wow, that is a tempting offer. Can you toss in bulk bag of cherries and a couple of sprigs of lemongrass to sweeten the deal?
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
Thanks, John!
I want to be clear that this is a side discussion and does not impact the actual matter of pricing. As the FAQ points out:
Q: Is the expansion “buy to play”?
A: Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is a paid expansion to Guild Wars 2, but once you buy it, there are no subscription fees. This means that you can continue playing and access future updates for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns with no subscription fee.
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
I’ll see if we can give more than a wink and a nudge about this sometime soon.
I was thinking last night when I did one of the vistas — yes, I can’t get enough of vistas! — that I’m so looking forward to LA returning to its former beauty. On the other hand, I know how much the devs have on their respective plates, so I’m trying to be real patient.
Gems can be acquired by converting gold that is earned by playing the game into gems. Therefore, no, no payment of real-world money needs to be involved in the acquisition of gold or gems.
BUT… I am not an economic expert and I need to be sure I’m speaking correctly. Therefore, I will see if the good John Smith can verify my comment (or poke holes in it, as he is welcome to do if I’m full of beans.
)
I am deeply sorry to hear that Cyclenurse has passed away. All of us are grateful for her positive energy in the community and for her kind involvement with players, young and old.
Our thoughts and condolences are with her friends, family, and of course with her guild family, as well.
Gibson — please keep in mind that players earn gold in the game. We do not make money from gold acquired in that manner, it’s coming to them through normal gameplay solely with the purchase of the original game. I just want to be sure that I point out that gold does not necessarily indicate a purchase (for real money) of any kind, not by the player nor by anyone else.
We’ve combined a lot of posts about pricing, payment methods, and so forth into this one thread.
Please read the FAQ about Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns to get answers to some of the questions, and we’ll have more information in the future.
In the meantime, this is the best thread for posts about pricing, cost, etc.

We’re so excited that we have announced Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, and we know that you have a lot of questions. Here’s what we have planned to get you a lot of information about our upcoming expansion:
We’d like to ask that you not submit a ticket to Customer Support with questions about Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. CS is not able to answer such questions, and CS needs to be able to concentrate on helping players with support issues.
Likewise, we respectfully request that you not send private messages to ArenaNet team members to ask about the expansion. Let’s let everyone focus on his or her job to get the expansion ready for you as soon as possible!
If you have questions, you can post them here, but your best bet for info really is through the sources listed above, and we invite you to keep your eye on those resources.
Thanks!

#Gaile do you think that in the extended time, the countries that arent in the list, will get covered and will be able to buy the game through the paysafe card? Thanks for your patient.
As far as I know, they will not be able to expand the PaySafe list in the next 16 hours. I am very sorry, but that just does not seem possible at all.
I just tested it. The game i am trying to buy is for my brother so to see if this was my problem i tryed to do a gem purchace in game using paypal and it worked, so the problem is not with my account nor with paypal
Wow, that is very good information and may help us identify the issue. Thank you for that. Passing it along now.

It seems i’m having a problem with the purchase, when i bought the game this message happeared: We have received confirmation of your payment from PayPal. Thank you for your purchase. Payment is handled on behalf of Guild Wars 2 by Digital River, Inc.
But how i whent to see and no money has been taken from my account. Also i received no e-mail confirming my purchaseReceipt number?
Order number was 9346299662. I tryed purchasing again to see if it would pass and nothing. Nothing appears on my paypal page even after i selected it wile paying
This is a different number than you gave previously. Is this from the second time you attempted to purchase?
If I get an answer, I will post it. If I don’t post it, it’s because I have not received a response to my inquiry and therefore don’t have any info to pass to you. I am sending e-mails, but it’s Sunday evening and I’m not sure how many people are on board with our payment provider to help with these individual cases.
Akagami — It’s 17:00 or 5:00 PM GMT. If you’re in Romania, I believe that would be 7:00 PM or 19:00 EET.

Receipt number?
You are right… I am from Romania, had no money on my personal bank account so i got 2 × 10 Euros Pay Safe Cards, for my girlfriend and a close friend(i was in debt to him).
It’s quite a lot of money, for the income here ( about 200 euros a month or so) so i feel kinda screwed now…any chance you can make it work in romania too?
You don’t have an option to transfer that money in you paysafe account to an Skrill account or paypal account ?
I can do that with my paysafe card and transfer my money to paypal or to skrill.
See if there is any option for you to do that!
I was wondering the same thing! If people could use the PaySafe as a deposit to a PayPal account, could they then purchase using PayPal?
I have asked our Billing/Payments Team, but on the surface it sounds as if it might work.

I’m so sorry, I don’t know the answer to that. Let me talk with the teams who are familiar with this and I hope to have an answer soon.
#Gaile the problem is that we already bought the PaySafe Card codes, so what are we to do with them?
it kinda sucks for us….
Am I right in assuming you are not in one of the listed countries?
My purchase info:
Order Number: 9332627162
Order Date: 25/01/2015 16:00-18:00 UTC/GMT
Location: Porto, PortugalI didn’t receive any e-mail confirming my purchase
What payment method did you use? (No exact name or numbers, just a generic name like “Visa” or “PayPal” please.)
Gaile what about the paysafe card payment issue?
Here is what I learned. These are the only countries in which the PaySafe Card is a valid:
Germany
Spain
France
Great Britain
Austria
Belgium
Finland
Italy
Netherlands
If you attempted a purchase from within these countries using the PaySafe Card, your order should process properly. If you are outside these countries, the order will not process and we suggest that you try again using an alternative purchase method.
Please be sure that you do not post an image that includes personally-identifiable information. For instance, if you post your receipt, that’s far too much information to have on a publicly-visible forum. Just the info in my request will be private enough to not expose PII.
Thanks.
Hey, all,
Good news!
We will extend the sale until 9:00 AM Pacific time (5:00 PM/17:00 GMT) so that you are able to take advantage of the special sale price for Guild Wars 2.
Wait, are you saying that if we have not been sent our serial we are not entitled to the discount? I think you#ll find I have an invoice receipt from you stating we now own it… Therefore no matter when you get around to actually sending the code I expect to not be charged any extra, or you’ll find your in breach of a number of sales laws..
I am absolutely NOT saying that! We would never do that to you or anyone else. If we see the purchase in the system during the sales period, we’ll get it finalized and send you the serial code.
If you’ll peek just above this post, you’ll see I’m asking for details that will allow us to get you the code. We may not be able to get this processed today, but I intend to try. And if we can’t get it out to you because something happened in the order processing, we’ll work with you individually to do our best to make it right.
Update:
If you got an order number but have not received a serial code for the game, and if you have not received your code, could you provide this for us?
Thank you SO much! We want to get this right for everyone ASAP!
Note: Please do not post copies of your invoice or receipt, as it will contain too much personal information.

Hey, all,
Good news!
We will extend the sale until 9:00 AM Pacific time (5:00 PM/17:00 GMT) so that you are able to take advantage of the special sale price for Guild Wars 2.
I’d imagine a far number, but I also think with the other options, we’ll have a nice cross-section of professions. I can’t wait to get my teeth into the specializations and such!
I haven’t heard we’re having issues with that, but I’ll get back to you after I’m able to discuss with the team member who knows the most about this.
I’m glad you were able to sign up with the alternate, but we’d like to hit your main mail, as you requested, so we’ll investigate and answer both your questions.
Thanks for the report.
We will have a “deep dive” on Revenants in the future, and I feel sure your question will be answered then.
I understand completely, guys, and we’ll see if we can get that info for you. If not right away, it’s on the questions list for sure.
Well Gaile, as I said, I’m the OP so if you re—read the original post at the top of this thread made first thing this morning you’ll see that I was originally saying I had not been sent a code, and indeed now, some 13 hours later, we’ve still not been sent a code.
I hope this answers your question.
I understand. What payment method did you use? And what is your general location?
Thank you for this info. It will help us help you and perhaps other players, as well.
