What dailies do ppl hate?
Apparently anything that might be slightly different than what they were used to with the old system.
Teon — let’s be fair. The system changed in significant ways, and some players are going to prefer the new one, others the old. I don’t think it’s fair to flag the feedback here (or at least all the feedback here ) as a straight comment or whine against change itself. Try to view the input more along the lines of “I liked the old system better” or even “I think [this change] would have been preferable.” In the end, each player is entitled to his/her opinion and is free to share it here (as long as it’s not off the rails on language, of course).
Disambiguation:
LAURELS
- Laurels were earned by completing the daily and monthly and are now gained by logging in.
- It will be possible to get more laurels in the new system in 28 days than it was in 28-31 days before (Max of 55 available now, max of 38-41 available before). Obviously, this calculation excludes laurels from achievement milestone chests.
- At various stages during the 28 days, a player will be either behind or ahead in laurel acquisition compared to the old system.
- A greater percentage of the total available laurels are back-loaded. In the old system, a greater percentage were front-loaded because 25% were from the monthlies, which could be completed in as little as one day.
- Before, if one completed every daily and the monthly and played 27 days in a 30 day month, one was out 3 laurels. Now, one would be out the 20 laurels in the Chest of Plentiful Laurels available as a choice on Day 28. However, one would only be out 2 laurels compared to the old system (37 then v. 35 now).
ACHIEVEMENT POINTS
- AP’s were earned at the rate of 1 AP per one task, with a daily cap of 12 and a monthly cap of 100. Total AP in a 30 day month before was 460, and is currently 300.
- Minimum AP rewarded assuming total completion every day in a 30 day month before was (30×5)+100=250. Currently it would still be 300. There is no difference in AP totals for completing more than the minimum tasks needed for completion.
OTHER REWARDS
- The other old daily rewards were Karma, XP, Mystic Coin, Luck and a chance at a Gem Store item. These rewards were tied to daily completion (5 tasks). Now, all but the XP aand Karma are tied to daily login. XP is part of the login rewards but is also available in the new rewards.
- These rewards are not awarded daily. Instead, they are awarded a few times in each 28 day cycle.
- If one logs in all 28 days, one will be likely to get more gem store items, will get more XP and luck and will get a lot fewer Mystic Coins with the new system.
NEW REWARDS
- The reward chests for the daily tasks are a new reward system. Karma and XP are in at least some of the chests, along with other rewards (Wintersday stuff right now, crafting materials, WXP, etc) that were not part of the old daily rewards.
THE TASKS
- Before, each daily would present 12 tasks. 2 were WvW specific, 2 were sPvP specific. The remaining 8 could include some that were PvE specific. The rest were more generic (could be earned in most PvE zones and in WvW).
- In the old system, there were 12 daily tasks. There are still 12 daily tasks.
- Of the 12 tasks available now, there are 4 tasks each for PvE, WvW and sPvP. Like it or not, this system favors no one mode whereas the old system favored PvE only players.
- Three tasks are now required for completion versus the old five tasks.
- The PvE tasks are less generic. Before, it was possible to get the daily reward playing in most PvE zones — though there were occasional days where this might not be possible.
Thanks for the breakdown
I agree — that’s really helpful information. Thanks, IndigoSundown!
I’m curious how the profession statistics were generated and how they would be reliably generated for a new chart. For example if I have 6 characters all of different professions, would my account put 1 “vote” for each of those professions into the respective columns? Or would the statistics be sophisticated enough to realize I spend 90% of my time on two of the characters, 9% of the time on three of them, and 1% of the time on the storage mule?
In other words, the profession “count” in cases like mine would need to be weighted.
That is a really good question. I’m going to ask one of the people who works with stats about this. I figured it was “how many of XX profession have been made” as a general marker of “people choose YY most” or “Most players make ZZ as their first profession” but it’d be cool if it was more weighted to actual play hours… and it well may be.
I can say that I’m sure we all make our mules Norns because they’re bigger and clearly can hold more stuffs, right? )
I think you may wish to post this in the Technical Support section, so someone with knowledge of this can answer you, whether player or staff member.
Thanks.
Because even if they made it a guaranteed item if you put in [x] number of items for, players would complain that it’s too grindy.
Make it an item easily attainable, and people complain it’s not special when everyone has it.
What’s your suggestion that pleases everyone? Because I (and I’m sure Arena.net) would love to hear it.
Yes, you’re absolutely right. We’d love to here those suggestions. In the appropriate thread.

Please understand: I do hear the concerns about RNG. I do not profess to be a master of the subject of game economies but sure, I understand the concerns. I just want to point out that this thread isn’t about RNG and the items in questions are available in the TP, so I think we’re covered. (Meaning, let’s keep the RNG discussion in the appropriate thread, please. )
I just want to say that as a long-time gamer, I totally understand and embrace the concept of rarity as an important factor in games and their economies. Maybe come would dispute it, but as far as I understand it, RNG is part of the system that ensures that items hold value. Until I’m convinced there’s a viable alternative (and yes, in the other threads, which I will read!) I can’t view RNG as the demonic system that it’s claimed to be… even while I’ve spent far, far too many hours trying to score the rare items myself!
If you take on board that rare items should be rare, and if you want your own rare items to hold value, then… Ah, but as I said, this thread isn’t about RNG. I’m happy we were able to share the recipe and I wish everyone the best of luck in scoring the nice Wintersday items, whether they choose to seek them or buy them on the TP.
With so many positive thoughts, Sylv, you’re on your way to a full recovery!
Re-do on the hugs for you.
As far as I know, this was fixed yesterday.
Please read this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Incinerator-Flame-Extinguished/first#post4628691
The question of nighttime effects for Howler is a separate issue, but I believe the first Hot Fix (yesterday) corrected the other effects issue. If not, please submit an in-game bug report so the team can investigate.
I’d love to get the Shatterer statue, it’d look amazing with my other assorted dragons, so I was really disappointed to find out it’s US only.
I’m asking about that.
And of all the figures — and I did like them all — The Shatterer was the one that impressed me the most. It’s really intricate and detailed!
This has been explained in the following posts:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Toypocalypse-and-Parties/first#post4629653
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Toypocalypse-and-Parties/first#post4629767
We do take on board that this change is not to everyone’s liking, but the change was required and not optional.
With the new build — which just went live — I believe many of these issues will be corrected.
The notes read:
Gaile just announced this as being a “good thing”.
Yes, I believe it is a good thing. Here’s why:
In the end, this recipe is voluntary. The item is desirable but not essential. Players may decide for themselves if going for a particular item is right for them. In the end, I believe that it really is that simple.
In case anyone missed this part of the Patch Notes:
Players logged in after 4:00 p.m. PDT [should say PST] on December 15 will receive their first daily log-in reward chest after 4:00 p.m. PDT [should say PST] on December 16.
Players last logged out before 4:00 p.m. PDT [should say PST] on December 15 will receive their first daily log-in reward chest immediately after the update.
I think this is very relevant for most of these reports. If each of you could please review and see if this describes your situation, it may let you know that this is the way distribution took place and does not represent a bug, per se.

Awesome — thanks a ton for those threads! It really helps to have this information.
I’ll send off a report now.
Made 50 forges, got 1 gift dolyak and one toymaker tonic.
Not much glittering snowflakes around atm, so might have to wait a bit until the next badge.
Wow, congrats!
There is quite a bit that’s new, and here’s another post I think is both positive and helpful:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/New-Mystic-Forge-Recipe/first#post4631506
One of our special Wintersday reindeer agents… ok, ok, Josh, one of our designers… let us know that there’s a fun new recipe in the Mystic Forge. In the past the Mystic Forge has produced some keenly-popular items, including the Endless Toymaker and Endless Gift Dolyak tonics. Now, you might be aware that a few of the items that were used in the old recipe no longer are available. So this year, in order to allow a few of these rare tonics to make it into the hands of lucky Wintersday celebrants, you will be able to combine mid-tier snowflakes (delicate, glittering, unique, and pristine) in a recipe that, while it usually will produce a gift box, may produce one of those valuable tonics, instead!
Best of luck, and Happy Wintersday!
Predator’s aura keeps disappearing.
cheshader — is this new since the update today? Or how long has it been happening?
Don’t forget that Howler has no nighttime effects anymore and has been broken forever. Getting that fixed would be great.
Khani — do you have any idea when that started? I’d like to report, but if I had a tad more info, it’d be wonderful.
I would, but there is no “Area” / “Subarea” categories that fit, and it won’t let me send the bug report without selecting those.
Oh fooey, I’m sorry! Well, I will pass this along for you. It’s an odd one.
Hey, Pixelpumpkin — did you happen to submit a report in the game? Click the gear in the upper left, then submit a bug report. This gives the team some really helpful info, if you can send that over.
Thanks for the report, Akira. Can you other folks let us know if the issue is cleared for you, as well? It should be — the whole situation was interrelated.
I am happy the team was able to get this addressed so quickly!
Thanks for the helpful info, Dinks and nottsgman.
Yes, this is a known issue and we’ll get it fixed as quickly as we can.
Glad you got that worked out, necsolo.
I keep getting into the games with 10+ min on timer and nothing going on, no mobs spawn etc. Am I actually supposed to wait 10 min until the new game starts?
That does sound like a bug. Have you clicked the gear emblem, then Support, and then “Report a Bug?” We’d love to get those details!
Details of the post here:
The programming team is investigating the crash now! In the meantime, the crash can be avoided if you do not hover your mouse cursor over the item link that appears after selecting and accepting the rune (see screenshot). This will let you utilize your sigil bags while avoiding the crash – at least until a proper fix can be implemented!
Bottom line: This was not a “choice.” This was not a decision made without thought, or carelessly, or in error. This was a necessary change that stabilized the game, for both PvP and Activities.
We understand that you would have preferred that this change not be made, but the cost of not making this change was too significant to let it slide. The change was necessary and as much as we regret any dissatisfaction that you may feel in relation to it, according to the designers it must remain in this state for this year’s release.
I just heard a bit more from the designer who informed me of this change. He said to be sure to let you know that this change was not implemented solely to stabilize PvP, but also to stabilize Activities. So it had a larger purpose than I at first understood, and I wanted to be sure to share that info.
Thanks to everyone for sharing tips to complete this daily. I’m sure they were very helpful to Lillith and others who are attempting this objective.
I think perhaps you misunderstand. The code that is used for this event is code that also is used for PvP. The code that allowed party joins for Toypocalypse was changed — by necessity — in order to stablize PvP and Activities as a whole. This wasn’t a design decision, this was a necessary change.
I’m sure if you look at this objectively, it makes sense to set a short-time event for single enters in order to stabilize all of PvP, which is a permanent element of the game.
I’ll ask the designers if they have more insight, but what I was told indicates that “we had to do this change in the short term in order to make PvP and Activities more stable” which applies to the permanent game mode.

A lot of threads have popped up about Wintersday. In order to allow the developers to read a single, focused thread on the subject, we’re merging several existing threads into this single feedback thread.
Please continue to provide your feedback on Wintersday — we appreciate the input!

This is also impacting things like the holographic wings. No worries, the team is on the case!
This is tied to the issue with weapon effects and is being worked on.
Thanks for the details, guys!
I love Lion’s Arch. It’s close to my heart in so many ways, and has been for years.
I feel sure that LA is not destined in remain in ruins forever. But I do appreciate that all the hammering and sawing and carrying on by the workers doesn’t seem to be making fast progress!
Like you, I’m looking forward to seeing the city in its normal beautiful form someday in the future.
The team is looking into this bug right now. So sorry for the issue, but they’ll get this repro’d and fixed as soon as they can.
BTW, are you guys using the in-game report system, aka, the “ladybug” in the report section? I ask because when you do that, the team gets some valuable info on a specific bug, and that info may be the mystery solver.
Thanks for your patience.
I just heard from the team about this, and it is an unfortunate but intended change. The alteration came about because code changes were required in order to stabilize PvP and some Instance Activities. According to one of our lead designers, the change cannot be revisited for this year’s release. Thanks for your understanding concerning this necessary adjustment.
Hi,
The in-game bug reports are read daily, but we do not have the means or the time to respond to each one. Please know that there are team members reviewing the reports, and in fact we’re working on a few small issues related to Wintersday right now, based on in-game reports kindly submitted by players.
Thanks for using the system — it really does help us make the game better by smiting those bugs, large and small!
All the best to you, Sylv, and I look forward to seeing you in the game very soon!
And I want to say how sweet it was of you to post this, to let us know how thoughtful your GW2 friends have been. It really is a marvelous community of players, and your friends are wonderful examples of that. Hugs to them, and HUGE hugs to you. <3
Hey Gaile, it’s new with the Wintersday content patch. I’ll submit an ingame report too.
Many thanks!!
Hey guys — is this a new situation? Did it arise after today’s build? And have you submitted an in-game bug report using the “ladybug” option in the report menu?
Thank you for submitting the reports via the optional “Send to ArenaNet” system! The team is actively watching for issues that come in that way and is getting them into the bug fix queue ASAP.
Ok, I’m going to send over a synopsis of this situation. Please “fact check” me, ok?
Does that sum it up?
Are you guys submitting in-game bugs using the “ladybug” symbol in the report menu?
Is this one related to the snowball fight? If so, that is being investigated right now. If related to something else, could you please provide a brief description? Having a verbal description helps me know to whom I should send an inquiry, where an error message isn’t descriptive enough.
Thank you.
~ Edited Topic to indicate this was a suggestion~ Thanks.
Looking into it, and thanks for the report. (Did you also send the report to ArenaNet, when given the option?)
<3 these.
Keep ‘em coming — this is tubs o’ fun and I love the creativity.
I’ll get in touch with Bobby and see how we best can accommodate his team’s needs as far as player reports regarding narrative issues.
Thanks a lot for your help so far!
Just imagine how cute a Charr or Asuran would be with kitten ears…
But Charr already have cat ears… giving them a third pair would just confuse them.
Charr are infinitely sensible creatures. They’ll get it.
This is an interesting question. Looking for Group (LFG) could include the sale of a run, sure. I’d rather do a run with willing players than buy one, but it’s ok if someone offers an honest run and legitimately fulfills the offer.
Does that mean it’s ok to offer the sale of merchandise in that channel? No. There’s no way that LFG = WTS.
The tweet (which is more than a year old, btw) refers to selling spots in a party. Run sales are not prohibited, but they fall into the “Gentleman’s Agreement” space. So if someone tries to sell a spot on his run for in-game currency, and if someone else is willing to pay, we’d not act against it. The matter gets cloudy if either party reneges on the agreement: Fails to supply the offered service; fails to pay the agreed amount. In that case, Customer Service looks for and takes action on obvious signs of scamming, but does not try to force the fulfillment of these player-to-player arrangements. (Just like they don’t try to resolve player-to-trading situations. Be safe: Use the bloomin’ TP. Please.) So CS would consider whether the non-payer or the person who didn’t fulfill the agreement was an obvious scammer and act, but they’d not make arrangements to resolve financial issues, like refund monies paid, etc.
Wow. I want those headphones…
Meeee(ow) too!
